it’s a skin with a lot of effects, footfalls, auras, altered skill effects, and a non physical death animation.. so it’s worth more than just an ordinary skin. It’s also a weapon you can change the stats on the fly with, something that can’t be done with non legendary weapons.

Yeah, it really doesn’t matter if a WP is close by, I’ve noticed. Players will lay there dead and ask for a res if there’s an ongoing event.

My only issue is how people actually pause and let you go to defeated instead of helping when you are just down. I can’t count the number of times I’ve seen and experienced this. Rezing someone from defeated takes way longer than if they are just down.

As for me, I’ll wait a bit to see if a rez is possible but if people are dropping all around me I don’t want their deaths on my conscious. So I just waypoint and run back. Simple world boss rules in effect in my opinion.

Peace.

if the run is less than 30s I waypoint and immediately run back because I think I can still catch the event and be there when it finishes.

But if anet keeps doing these zones with limited/contested waypoints that require longer runs? I’d almost rather hope for a res since it’ll take longer to run back and probably miss the event.

There’s a huge difference between ANet adding elite weapons to the HoM in GW1 and reducing a potential profit source for them in GW2. In the first case, they made it possible for more people to progress their HoM score easily. The equivalent in GW2 would be making it easier to obtain achievement points, which ANet has already done in various ways.

The suggested change to GW2 is to remove a convenience fee that everyone pays for every other skin in the game. Cultural, Pact, Legendary, and other skins all cost a lot to obtain, but we only get one free skin of each — and in the case of Cultural & Pact weapons, we don’t even get to apply it to ascended stats. The GW1 equivalent would be … well, there is no GW1 equivalent because skin & stats were linked together.

I confess I’m not a fan of collecting transmutation charges, but it seems reasonable to me that we pay a small fee per use for skins generally and I don’t see BL skins as being more special than the others.

Yeah but it already is a source of potential profit, they’re double dipping when we’re paying to reapply the skin every 5-10 levels. (triple, quadruple, etc dipping actually)

No, they aren’t double-dipping. We are only charged once for the unlock. And then, like every other skin in the game (with three types of exceptions), we are charged per re-skin.

I get that some people might not like this system, but that’s different from saying there’s something unusual or immoral about it. To change skins from the current system to a pay-once/infinite-reskins, there would have to be a higher acquisition cost, perhaps lowering the drop rate of scraps/tickets or increasing the per-skin ticket costs. I don’t think either of these alternatives is more popular than the status quo, since some already feel the unlock costs are higher than they can afford.

I’m not talking about the ticket skins, I’m only talking about the armor skins you pay 800 gems for or the weapons you pay outright 600 gems for.

a dev has said that you’re supposed to be able to disable the voiceovers by hiding the backpack so it doesn’t display. That currently doesn’t work but a fix will go in soon.

So then the worries about it in wvw can be calmed down at least, as players will click the box to not give themselves away to the enemy in wvw at least.

@OP, you shouldn’t be frustrated by posting a bunch of threads. Try my classic work-around : auto kick rangers and/or LFG say: no ranger. Works like a charm.

Yes when I want to go to Orr or the Silverwastes to do events I’ll just auto kick all the rangers from the map

Oh wait.

You can’t.

You can’t even kick rangers from a map in WvW even though they’re just tag along leeches.

I still say that making the revive skills that many classes have work on dead players, at least in PVE, is the solution. Currently nobody uses those skills, nobody ever slots them, if they were actually useful, people might slot them.

Waypoint and run back is only better if the waypoint is close enough that running back takes a shorter time than being ressed, which is not always the case. Silverwastes is a prime example because you have a 5 minute timer on the breach event and it takes 2 minutes to run back across the zone.

It takes less time to res someone than 2 minutes, but people won’t do it since it personally affects them and they couldn’t care less if the dead person misses out on the event and doesn’t get credit for something (say a mordrem fang that they would have gotten if they’d been in range) while running back.

Grenth Cathedral event is another prime offender here, you run halfway across cursed shore with mobs that pull and immobilize along the way. I’ve missed out on the end of the priest event due to getting killed by corruption if the people who are supposed to be killing shades are dead or not doing their job… so there’s a champ bag and possibly missing some waves of the defense event that can be another couple champ bags and trash drops.. while running back halfway across the zone.

Saying “just WP” isn’t an attractive option if it’s a long run and you miss out on things.

Better to make res skills usable.

Remember when you first played the game and it felt like a lot of Jolly Cooperation because people ressed the downed instead of just letting them die and have to run back to the event? Yeah, I’d like that back, more community, less putting people down and making them miss out.

I’d gladly slot glyph of renewal if it was a viable skill.

To tell the truth, a good LB 4 is kind of hard to time…

Wth, lol, what hard to time? Just don’t press 4. Nothing high skill about it. How hard is it not to press 4? Seriously. Spoken like a true scrub.

He means that sometimes it’s advantageous to use the knockback. IE if you’re solo or so no aoes at the target’s feet or there’s a backstop like a wall or a static field and the mob is doing something channeled, yes, press 4, interrupt. If the mob RUNS OUT of aoe to come at someone who’s ranged and there’s a meteor shower ticking away over there, put the mob between you and the meteor shower run up to it and press 4! Put him INTO the aoe. If I saw rangers doing that, I’d be happy.

But in those advantageous situations…. well, it’s on cooldown, because the ranger already just spammed it while facerolling.

Either everyone is forgetting (or wasn’t aware) that Before the wardrobe change, you weren’t able to apply them more than ONCE and couldn’t get them back if something was applied over them.

The current system is much more forgiving.

Seems off topic. Your problem only affected people who only have one of each weapon/armor. Most people have several of each weapon for different purposes with different skins anyway, so they never overwrote a good/rare skin.

My point is NOW they don’t have to worry about any of that as transmutation charges are cheap (or free for bit of effort). Previously, if you bought a gem skin (no matter how many) you got ONE use of it….PERIOD. The skins being overwritten an lost was a problem but not the main focus or my comment….being able to only use it ONE time was. If you can’t see that the current system is vastly superior, all I can do is try and explain it.

Both Achievement and HoM skins are EARNED (and were zero cost before the Wardrobe change). Gem skins are purchased (and do NOT have to cost RL money) and have NEVER been no cost to apply. Again, if you can’t see the difference, not sure anyone can help you.

It’s one thing to ASK for them to change this, but another to delude yourself and everyone else with some made up logic that somehow this change makes “sense” when it really does not.

The point of this thread IS asking.

Like when we asked for tormented weapons to be added to the hall of monuments, and oppressor weapons.

We thought they took as much effort to make as the destroyer weapons, so we asked, Anet heard, and agreed.

Maybe it would be best for you then to try to find 1 a different version of the map, (because they are not going to change Point Blank Shot to suit you or it they do then you will be in the mesmer forum wanting Illusionary Wave changed and so on.) 2 Play something else for a while if this causing enough distress to come to the forums to complain.

Honestly this seem more of a targeted attack on the ranger class as you seem to have no issue with a mesmer knocking back/pulling away upto 5 targets or guardian playing hammer golf.

This tread is not going any where near constructive and should probably be closed.

That’s because players of other classes don’t need their butts wiped and to be spoonfed, so, they actually know when to appropriately use skills.

as an Ele I have a knockback skill too, and I do use it, but I place static field directly behind the mob so that it doesn’t really move, it gets knocked back an inch or so into a stun (and proccing lightning rod twice for about 10k damage), and if not into that, into a natural backdrop like a wall or cliff or rock. The idea is not to push back just to push back, but to interrupt, and keep it in people’s melee range and keep it in aoes.

Rangers.. and I do watch to make sure that it’s a ranger.. there’s just something wrong with your playerbase. They’re toxic. Notice no WvW commander relies on them to get up downed people even though nature spirit can instantly res 5 downed people. They call for battle standards instead, they pretend rangers don’t exist. That’s because ranger players never show themselves to be a valuable member of the team. They don’t slot the water field heal when it would be useful, they don’t slot the nature spirit for an emergency zerg res when it would be useful, they’re just not team players though they have some skills that could make them team players. It’s something about the player base itself.

Know what would kind of help?

make those resurrection skills that most classes have work on dead players not just downed, in PVE.

Not in WvW for obvious reasons, warbanner is already powerful enough, but for every class but warrior their resurrection skills are just…. bad, they have long cast times long cooldowns, usually only single target or maybe 2-3 target, and in the time that you could cast the skill on a DOWNED person, you could have rubbed the ground and brought them back up just as fast.

Perhaps the systems guys should really take a look at the resurrection utilities. After all, in GW1 we had resurrection skills and they were used extensively, even in PVP.

The cooldowns on the res skills I know of are so long as to keep them balanced even if they did res a person from fully dead.

Signet of Mercy: 1 target, 4 second cast, 2.5 minute cooldown, not that good of a passive effect. Only usable on downed, small radius.
Nobody uses this, in 4 seconds you can just massage someone up, with no cooldown, the same range, and have a 3rd utility skill that actually does something.

“Search and Rescue”: 1 target, it’s an instant shout but the effect is really slow, 1/3 of normal massage revive rate, 1.5 min cooldown. In the time that the pet is reviving, you could do it yourself 3x faster, and since it only works on downed, not defeated, it’s pointless, if the downed person has to wait that long to be ressed they will probably get fully defeated in that time, AND end up killing the pet. Nobody uses this.

Glyph of Renewal: has neat effects but all of them feature the same problem.. almost 3 min cooldown, 3.25s cast time, single target (except earth which will revive 3). I main elementalist and have played Ele for about 1500 hours and I have used this skill once, just to try it, and decided it was junk, and never touched it again. I don’t see other eles using it either.

Illusion of Life: only 1.25s cast time, which is decent, but target is only temporarily alive, unless they kill something to rally, making it useless against any boss without adds, it’s just over a 2 minute cooldown which is alright for a revive skill, but still, single target, and only downed. I’ve CARRIED this on my mesmer only as a joke on a guildmate who happened to die a lot, I was saying I was bringing it for him. Never used it, it’s just better to ground rub them up.

Signet of Undeath: 3 second cast, 3 minute cooldown, 3 targets (which is actually good vs how many are single target), small radius (which is bad, most times you’ll only get up one person).

Throw Elixir R: Like the pet res from ranger, it’s a slow pulsing res (on 5 targets at least..) on downed players. With that slow of a res, they will probably fully die instead.

Battle Standard and Nature’s Renewal (when rangers actually use the spirit, but most I’ve seen don’t) are aoe, fast to use (Battle Standard is 2s but that’s still faster than rubbing someone up, especially since it’s aoe).

Those are elite skills which is why I guess they’re actually useful.

The normal utility resses? All junk.

Gaile if you’re still here, can you bring this point up with Jon and Isaiah or anyone else appropriate (those are just the names I know that deal with skill balance) please? I think these skills are due for an overhaul. Whether it’s making them instant cast and all affecting up to 3 targets (with a larger radius) or keeping them with the longer cast times and letting them work on fully defeated players.. something needs done. The current implementations are just not something people use.

I returned to GW2 from ESO...

I quit WoW when I saw that with each expansion was going to be another level cap increase. I don’t like level cap increases, it makes all your gear junk no matter how hard won it was, and it’s not a content EXPANSION it’s a content REPLACEMENT. The old zones are all ghost towns and any zones in the new content that aren’t max level are also quickly ghost towns.

One thing I really like about GW and GW2 is that they keep the same level cap and just keep adding new content. You can add new skills, new gear, new zones, new quests, new dungeons, new classes, all that, without increasing the level cap, and when you add that without increasing the cap, it’s an actual content EXPANSION. People still run Underworld and Fissure of Woe in Guild Wars, had Arenanet increased the level cap with factions and nightfall and eye of the North, those instances would be dead, because anything dropped in them would become irrelevant compared to the higher level materials that’d drop out of the new endgame, etc. But because it’s all the same level it’s all relevant.

I was in Orr yesterday because I needed Arah story on a character to fix a crash bug (anet ended up fixing the bug themselves toward the end of the dungeon run, but hey, I learned that the rewards for finishing the personal story have improved some, actually kind of worth doing now), and there are still a lot of people in Cursed shores, 2+ years after launch, doing events, farming, gathering mats, keeping the zone alive.

Had we increased the level cap to even 85 with dry top and silverwastes, Orr would be a ghost town.

Meanwhile.. TESO so far has increased their veteran rank cap twice.. which I’m not a fan of because they keep saying they’re on the way to removing veteran ranks, to use a new Champion system instead (that works like Diablo’s Paragon system, which is a horizontal progression rather than vertical progression, despite the power creep it brings.. you can still wear all the same gear and do all the same content aside from scaling greater rifts (similar to scaling fractal levels.. sometimes I wonder who gets the ideas from who when it comes to Guild Wars and Diablo. Diablo removed Magic find from gear and made it an account based thing, Guild Wars adopted a similar system, Guild Wars adds scaling difficulty mini dungeons, Diablo follows and adds scaling difficulty mini dungeons..). Champion system will make the level cap stay at 50, and all gear can be worn at 50 supposedly. So it makes no sense to reinforce the VR system when they’re planning on dropping it completely and replacing it with something else.

Teragriff Boss and Thresher Unfair to Melee

in Living World

Posted by: Devildoc.6721

Devildoc.6721

It’s not just that fight, is part of the problem. GW2 routinely favors ranged.

O_O

I just read the PvE class guides on dulfy’s website (they are excellent readings btw) and I’m not exactly certain that the people who wrote them considered “ranged combat” relevant in level 80 PvE.

Otherwise the meta for warriors would be rifle + longbow instead of Axe/mace + GS. Or did I miss something ?

Annnnd double post. Sorry about this.

Most stuff in GW2 attacks pretty slow so you can get in there on melee and melee does a lot more damage than most ranged weaponsets, you just dodge/invuln things.

So it doesn’t favor ranged it actually favors melee if you trust your timing.

This mordrem stuff on the other hand makes a lot of use of more rapid attacks, things that are channeled (that can’t be reliably interrupted on champions due to their buffs) that repeatedly do damage and follow your character around (the root attack being the major culprit here) or pulsing aoes around the mob that make being able to melee virtually impossible to survive. You can’t just dodge and self heal your way through it.

The insulting part is the NPC’s tell you now’s your chance to get in close, while the teragriff is sitting up against the wall.. but the teragriff is using the root attack, so you go in there you get shredded.

I think people don’t play eles and don’t even realize that you can’t change weapons as an ele. Only way to switch to a ranged weapon is to redo the instance.

Or don’t engage with the wrong weapon equipped..

Because everyone knows the correct weapon to have equipped before engaging. /facepalm

Best i can tell, Arenanet’s definition of “casual” is that you can respawn scum your way through the story…

That is all well and good, if the game didn’t do armor damage on respawns.

Seriously? They even removed the repair costs and people still complain about armor damage?

I think the issue isn’t cost but that after 6 tries, you have to start the instance over from the beginning.

Honestly that didn’t even cross my mind that it would go so far for anyone, but you are right, it does make more sense.

Yeah, while personally the Teragriff got me 3 times on one character before I learned just how wide its charge really is, with that wonky charge being so powerful (one shots zerker eles and thieves), and so wide well beyond the width of the actual mob, I can understand people dying 6+ times to him.

+33% is still the slowest maximum speed in any MMO aside from GW1, and that’s the maximum speed of most classes aside from a few very short bursts of speed for Engineer and Ele.

Quit acting like swiftness is enough to make up for the fact that Silverwastes has 1 waypoint.

Why are you so obsessed about the supposed lack of speed. You need to run 45, maybe 90 seconds to a fortress? It doesn’t matter… If everybody could do all bosses at the same time, because of waypoints, it wouldn’t be challenging anymore now would it?

If you need too run to often I’d suggest you’d invest in a build which allows for some more survivability… I have been there on my dagger dagger thief, and been there on my pvt warrior one tends to stay alive very well…

And it’s about defending fortresses, till you get the breach, then killing your boss underneath your fortress. Not running around just to kill as much bosses as possible…
If you need 4 bosses switch 4 times after they spawned, same for the legendaries. Why do people just want to play 10 minutes and be finished already?….

As long as you stay alive the maps the drops and the achievemnts tend to be very easy 2, maybe 3 hours tops.

33% is to make sure other parts of the game stay balanced, the developers want the game to be transparant in all fields of play. Which tends to be true for everything except confusion…

If a thing actually needs additional speed they’ll find a way, (aspect crystals in drytop or platforms near tequatl).

another example, the Ulgoth event in Harathi Hinterlands. Unless you show up an hour early, the “closest” waypoint is halfway across the zone. It’s really annoying running through all that trash with ranged attacks putting you in combat so that you run even slower.

or Orr, where many waypoints are constantly contested

Waypoints are supposed to be the rational reason why we do not have mounts. If that’s the case, then waypoint travel coverage needs to be adequate. If anet tries to take away adequate waypoint travel, then they should give us mounts or permanent (can only be initiated out of combat) speed boosts comparable to mount speed (about +66%, so double the effectiveness of swiftness would work). Spending more than about 15-20 seconds running through trash is about where I feel that I’m wasting time and not enjoying what I’m doing. I don’t play this game to wade through garbage solo.

Wading through garbage solo isn’t fun or engaging it’s not exploring since I’ve already been through the zone top to bottom multiple times by now, it’s mostly just going through the motions, annoying and boring.

In orr closed waypoints show where you need to go if you want to do temple events, I missed them quite a few times, but if you follow the map chat often the pre events are linked way before time. and the actual “UP” of the boss shows only the end of a series of events, If you only seek those out you seem to focus a lot on leeching…

When Ulgoth starts the closes waypoint gets unlocked as well, that’s after the area was secured, leaving at least the dogs and the earth elemental hands before the actual Ulgoth, those events take several minutes, enough to run a big portion of the Hirathi map if neccesary….

And no, there is still no reson for more WP’s in the Silverwastes, unless you want to farm bosses. Understand it’s good some things take time, playing games is a passtime, something to fill your free time, if it takes no time and needs to be finished it seems more like a chore or work to me…. And grinds& farms take time… it’s because most people try to do the things for fun at leisure and therefore games cater for leisure. It is not you are paying for your time in gw2…

I could imagine if you pay a monthly fee you’d actually benefit from mounts due to more game experience because you can travel further before your game time runs out, but in gw2 this isn’t relevant.

There’s nothing fun or leisurely about running through trash at what feels like a crawl compared to using mounts.

So wait, after the talk about making mounts super fast, now you want to stay mounted even in combat? So not dismounted when you are hit by an attack?

Mounts tend to be able to take a few hits before going down in many MMO’s. There may be some attacks like stuns or pulls that dismount a rider instantly, but you can usually take a few hits and ride past, if you’re not just plowing through the middle of a bunch of mobs. TESO’s mounts can sprint but it depletes stamina, taking hits also depletes stamina, if you get hit with 0 stamina you get dismounted and stunned.

Let me get that. So you want to nerf the Longbow in sPvP so that noobs don’t annoy you in PvE?

Considering it happens at least 2 dozen times a day every day, yes.

I can guarantee it happens at every single event, some boneheaded ranger using LB4 inappropriately.

Ever hear of idiotproofing?

Well, we need that.

I’m using the skill 4 about 10 times during a game of 8 minutes in sPvP. If you don’t like ranger, ask for no Ranger in your lfg. Oh but I also hate when a Necromancer use fear or have minions. We should remove that too. Ya but sometime the guardian do banish with the hammer, we should remove that too. But I hate when thief scorpion wire, that too should be remove no?

If I could ban rangers from landscape zones I really would.

Can’t happen and never going to happen.

So best I can hope for is idiot proofing the offensive skill by changing it to an immobilize, which would still be powerful in PVP.

No it wouldn’t. We already have immobilize. But skill 4 LB is our only knock back. Precious to stop someone for stomping a team-mate. Get over yourself or don’t play with ranger.

You can’t decide who’s on the map. Are you just not grasping that concept? I’d love to just remove all rangers from the game, maybe make ranger an SPVP only class that’d be wonderful, but you can’t, you can’t just “not play with rangers”. Wow man how many times do I need to repeat that? You just might be one of the players I’m talking about with that kind of mental fortitude.

The updates for season 1 were SO much better than this season’s. There we had Lost Shores with the Karka event, Flame and Frost with great events around the world and the new bosses in a dungeon, SAB, Dragon Bash, The election, the Jubilee, new dungeon, new world bosses, updated world bosses, EOTM, battle for LA…. Seriously Season 1 was amazing and had TONS of very memorable and fun content.

Season 2 is just to blah. Every 2 weeks we get a couple more story missions, and every 2 months we get a new zone to farm in, which are exactly the same kitten farms.

Anet, go back to the format you used for Season 1 ASAP. Not only was the content better, but it was much MUCH more memorable. I used to look forward to logging on every 2 weeks and getting ALL the achievements because each update was so starkly different. Now… I can hardly be bothered to step into PvE at all.

Most of season 1 wasn’t that stuff, Lost Shores wasn’t really part of Living Story, that was before living story.

I’m just saying that we’re given the ability to apply achievement and HoM skins for free, black lion skins that we actually purchased through the store ourselves would be another good candidate for that.

Not to be confused with skins bought with ticket scraps that can be sold in the AH.

By omitting alt armor acquisition Anet ensures there is always a sizable amount of players around, so latecomers don’t find themselves on a deserted map, therefore unable to complete achievements.

This replaces shovel farming as a new incentive to ensure players keep doing events in the new map.

This was intended and won’t change no matter how much people complain.

Want the new armor? Do the grind!

You put this much of a grind in for it and people say forget it, I don’t want the blue crap anyway.

You’d be surprised. They’ve realized a lot of people are willing to grind. Just look at all of the collection achievements that people have attempted to grind out.

A few I’ve done if they seemed like they would be fun to do, but if they seem like an awful grind or just a gigantic gold sink, I say forget it, not worth the time invested.

This is now one of those.

Not to mention some of the achievements seem to be a hassle like, not being caught by the Lurcher, which immediately B-lines for you at the start of the instance and is much faster than you.

I’ll accept no mounts if we have adequate waypoint travel. You take away adequate waypoint travel? I want mounts.

Mounts only make a world feel small when it’s like WoW where you have 300% speed FLYING mounts so you can just fly over all obstacles.

See my earlier post about how fast actually a player can go… There is no need for waypoints to go fast, just use the skills available to you and you can be anywhere in no time. Using proper movement skills sure makes you a lot faster than 300% of the normal running speed (no flying ability though).

So I ask again, why are people asking for mounts as a means to move faster from point A to point B? Aren’t players already super fast (if you use the available movement skills) or you want these mounts to be faster than an Elementalist using FGS, perma swiftness and Ride the Lightning?

Swiftness is not that fast at all, and those skills are on somewhat long cooldowns and have short durations.

GW2 could’ve had mounts by now, but it wasn’t their focus. It would take them a long time to actually implement mounts, optimize, and then test them. They would need to design them, code them, and then make new animations for each race and gender.

I’m not saying they can’t do it, but the game just wasn’t designed for them, so they would have to radically design the game around them, because currently, you have 100+ people in zergs, and then if you add more animations on top of that, and more models, it’s going to lag.

Sonic driller
Witch’s Riding Broom
Magic Carpet

all that’s missing is speed boost.

Dead players dragging everybody down.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Devildoc.6721

Devildoc.6721

In regards to all the people asking for reviving speed of dead to be boosted – no.
Being completely defeated is meant to take you out of the fight, hence the long time it takes to revive. Defeated players are by design meant to either WP or be revived after the fight or in between waves in a wave based event.

Any solution that involves lessening the time it takes to revive deafeted players is in my opinion really short-sighted as it just makes every event incredibly zergable – something the Devs have shown they don’t want as the last couple of open world releases from Pavillion onwards always encouraged zerg splitting.

In case someone from the Devs is reading this and wondering why the initial post was asking for porting players outside of the event and not for, say, more frequent scans of active players or taking defeated out of the equation for scaling, it was mainly after taking the Devs into consideration.

I know ANet is stretched pretty thin atm with the LS releases and whatever they’re working on on the side so I was proposing something that’s already in the game and doesn’t require a big amount of developing time or is probably flat out impossible.
Scanning the active players for example may even be impossible with their current server structure. The same goes for removing dead players from scaling; I’m not an IT guy but I’m sure this would require a lot of work on their scaling engine-thingy.

Simply moving players is already in the game; it happens during cutscenes, story and even when we enter the bossfights themselves. My proposition was just based on my view that the problem is solved most effectively with almost no dev-time that way.

Being revived from dead in combat takes less time than running back from the waypoint unless you died at Redrocks or Indigo. maybe even less time then.

I returned to GW2 from ESO...

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Devildoc.6721

Devildoc.6721

The only good thing about TESO is the graphics. The economy actually caused grief to other players playing the game because people were spamming WTS/WTB on the map chat. Moreover the guild bank had to rely on add on to stack items together so time spent for that is a lousy 10mins and you have to do it a few times per day. Crafting is ok but if you compare the skins of armour for both games, GW2 designers spent more time thinking of cool skins and they give you a wardrobe. I love this feature. I do agree about the jolly cooperation in GW2 compared to the other and that was what made DAOC successful. Look at tequatl and look at TESO world boss, see what I mean. But gamebreaking bugs like duping and spawn camp home base took too long to fix in TESO that was why their wvw state is worse than GW2. And I do like the economy of GW2, its like stock market. Anyway the main focus for this post is not to compare both games, it is more to appreciating the good work of Anet Dev Team as I am impressed when I came back.

People without guilds spam chat to trade yes but the real economy is in the guilds.

the real economy in GW2 is in the insider trading, people who know what’s going to be the hot items the week before the patch hits and buys up everything so they can control the prices. They know because they’re privileged testers, or friends of anet employees. It’s “acceptable” because it’s just a game, but if the TP were a real stock market? Everyone participating would be in jail, as insider trading is illegal.

So.. I hate GW2’s economy.

as for the stacking, the same issue exists in GW2’s guild bank. You can’t add to someone else’s stack inside the bank itself, you have to withdraw from the guild bank, form a stack in your inventory, and deposit it, except one caveat. GW2 doesn’t allow addons so you have to do it manually.

Also, since we were talking about combat mechanics before.. playing TESO made me realize how much I hate one particular combat mechanic of GW2. I HATE downed state. It is possibly the dumbest thing added to GW2 combat. TESO and TERA have active blocking and dodging just like GW2, but your characters are so much more sturdy there, a missed dodge or running out of endurance against multiple ranged attackers in TERA or TESO is not a death sentence the way it is in GW2. In TESO missing a block on a power attack or getting caught in an aoe without dodging does hurt, but you can recover from it, it’s not an instant death. It usually results in a stun or knockdown, which you can expend stamina to break out of on a fairly short cooldown, and does more damage than a normal hit. But it’s not an instant death.

in GW2 you have 2 dodges, and maybe a class mechanic or utility on a long cooldown to avoid damage, that’s it, and Veterans will 2 shot you, Elites and champions and legendaries will probably one shot you.

Why?

Because of downed.

Downed to anet devs, is supposed to be a normal expected combat state, you should expect to get downed against bosses and the expectation is that you will be able to rally from being downed a few times before your downed health is so low that you instantly die. They expect rallying off of adds or other players ressing you in combat. This means it’s perfectly acceptable to them for you to get downed in one or two hits, because you’re not dead, you’re just “downed” and can recover. This also perpetuates the zerker meta, because building “balanced” or even building bunker in PVE only buys you one or two more hits before you’re downed. Giganticus Lupicus almost one shots my ele on every projectile, I might barely survive one, as zerker, in full soldier gear in a full bunker spec I still take over half my health in damage, meaning I’d get downed on the second hit anyway, making it not worth it considering how much less damage I do. TESO and TERA, players are expected to be hit in combat, and recieve the same amount of avoidance choices as GW2, TESO actually has more on this because you’re expected to block, rather than dodge most hits, taking greatly reduced damage and not getting stunned or knocked down/back, but still taking some damage. Either way your characters are still far more sturdy than in GW2, because there is no downed state.

Some people will claim that it’s because the devs want everyone to play perfectly and never get hit, but I say it’s because Devs think downed is a normal part of play and doesn’t count as a “one shot” because you aren’t dead, “just” downed. Not counting the times you get downed in an aoe that kills you the very next tick because your 2 skill isn’t up yet, or your class has no way to move out of an aoe while downed, or not counting the times when you’re solo vs multiple mobs while downed and a high health mob body blocks projectiles while you’re targetting the low health mob to rally.

Downed is just a bad mechanic.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Devildoc.6721

Now as to why not pick one or the other?

They’ve got differences.

I already said GW2 has the best Jolly Cooperation in the genre, if you just want to be a part of a massive community zerg killing world bosses or well, just every mob in their path, GW2 is your game (though both have very similar WvW systems, you can chalk that up to both games being developed by former Mythic developers who worked on Dark Ages of Camelot, they’re both fantastic in that aspect).

However, TESO has a much more robust crafting system and economy. TESO’s crafting system is wonderful, highly customizable. You can choose the skin of what you craft, the stats (traits and enchants), fine tune the level (every even level, and every veteran rank), and if you craft at specific stations found in the wild, you can craft set gear with bonuses. Learning traits takes real time, and learning crafting styles requires finding the motif of the style, some of which are very rare and very expensive. Crafting also requires skill points (the same used to purchase combat skills) so it requires some focus into crafting to do. Those who do dedicate time to crafting will find their skills are valuable, people often request the services of crafters who are “8 trait” or “9 trait” or “nirnhoned crafter” with specific motifs to make custom gear for them. GW2’s crafting.. well.. you pretty much only craft for yourself because ascended is account bound.

Economy… GW2 uses a developer controlled economy where John Smith will manipulate the market with a patch that makes previously worthless things super valuable, see the ascended crafting and collectibles patches.. It’s a global trading post so it can be manipulated by very wealthy players as well. TESO’s economy is PLAYER GUILD controlled. There is no global auction house, instead there are guild stores. Large guilds have guild stores to trade to each other, if they want to sell outside of their guild they buy a merchant in a town to sell the goods on their guild store, or conquer a keep in PVP and the quartermaster will sell from their guild store. It’s decentralized that way making it hard to control prices and there are very lucrative opportunities in that (finding one store that sells something very cheaply then putting it in a higher traffic store for more profit)

In the future Zenimax plans to implement spellcrafting and a justice system that will enable PVP in PVE zones (you’ll be able to hunt down criminal scum for their bounties). I’m pretty excited for that.

as a current player of both games, I just want to weigh in.

I find both games to be good (people are mentioning problems with the guild bank/store that were launch issues that have since been fixed, and bots, which.. I haven’t seen a bot flying across the sky in months, but yes they were a major problem, and the vampires.. people give bites away for free at this point and the spawns are never camped), in fact, these two games are the two most innovative games in the genre I’ve seen in a very long time, both take significant departures from the norm. I’d say it’s WORTH playing both games actively if you have the time.

Both have very explorable worlds, hidden chests and nooks and crannies, I’m sure we’re familiar with some “secret” locations in Tyria, Tamriel has a lot of its own spots. The key thing in both worlds is that there are things to do aside from questing and killing mobs in the world. You go to a game like Final Fantasy XIV, all there is to do is kill mobs and do quests, and gather crafting mats if you’ve switched to a gathering job. GW2 has skillpoints, vistas, jumping puzzles, hidden chests, mini dungeons, the occasional bit of lore related interactables like books and gravestones to read, TESO has skyshards, lockpicking chests, fishing holes, mundus stones, mini dungeons (delves), public dungeons, lore books, you can loot just about anything you see (until the justice system arrives), random roadside encounters like being able to rob a traveling merchant or encounter M’aiq the Liar, special crafting stations that let you craft sets, etc.

Both feature more action based combat, both being able to dodge roll out of danger (though TESO focuses more on blocking) and move while casting, and I can tell you, once you’ve played a game that lets you move while casting, it’s hard to go back to other MMO’s that root you in place like FFXIV or Archeage. Both games feature class systems where every class can play multiple roles in a group, though, as a caveat, GW2 pretty much only has 1 role in group PVE.. damage. You can throw heals if you want but don’t expect to focus as a healer. TESO you will focus as a healer or tank, but any class can be a healer, and any class can be a tank.

Both feature COOPERATIVE PVE play. Whereas other MMO’s you have people scrambling to tag mobs for themselves both TESO and GW2 lack tagging, all people who fought the mob get xp and chance at loot. This is one of the best things about both games in that there’s a lot of “jolly cooperation” rather than squabbling to see who hits something first. GW2 takes this to a level unmatched by any other MMO however with the focus on dynamic events rather than quests (the only event like system in TESO is daedric anchors and world bosses), TESO you still have to compete over crafting resources and locked chests, GW2 everything is shared, chests, resource nodes, the only thing not is heart interactables.

"Elite" Ele skills.

in Elementalist

Posted by: Devildoc.6721

Devildoc.6721

And you fail to understand that I view elites as something that’s a game changer. Like a moa, a supply crate, or such. And if you drop a fire ele in a middle of a fight and combo it with the activation of the skill along with your burst. It literally pressures and turns it around on the opponent. That’s why I said it feels more like an elite now with the recent changes and such. And that’s why I keep insisting that you continue to try it out and see what it’s truly capable of.

Prior to the september update, Tornado and FGS were gamechangers. FGS in PVE and Tornado in WvW. 2 Eles using FGS on a dungeon boss (and 2 other party members picking up the other greatsword) melted a dungeon boss so fast it didn’t have time to do its mechanics It just died. Now you’re better off using Lightning hammer, a normal utility skill instead, and the damage from your elemental, whatever your timing, is such a drop in the bucket it’s insignificant.

Tornado in WvW.. if a commander said “suppress that wall” because there was arrow carts or cannons up there, a single Ele using meteor shower and tornado on that wall would drop 2-3 defenders so fast that it let your group break down the walls almost unchallenged, Now it does nothing to assist in clearing a wall, and normal meteor showers don’t do enough damage to down a defender before they can escape. That defender who was on the cannon will dodge roll out of meteor shower having taken a tick or two, heal up, and jump back on the cannon now that your 30s cooldown is done and he doesn’t have to worry about big damage anymore. he can harass your group long enough for his group to arrive in force and repel your invasion.

So anet took 2 gamechangers and made them not game changers, and the only change they made positive only has effect in one of 3 game modes.

One in three game modes.

And engineer only has the supply crate wich is semi good too.

I’ll say it again. PvE heroes these days. PvP is the only game mode where elites actually does matter. PvE…You are fighting against AI. Any halfwit with a brain could easily overcome a boss. Doesn’t require much skills, just coordination of your party. But in pvp…It’s an entirely different matter. So yeah, stop talking about pve, kk? kkthxbai.

“PVE” skillsets also apply to WvW.

Your game mode is relegated to a few rotating maps and one objective type, don’t think it’s any more important than the other 2 game modes.

People still want better skills to kill the giant blobs of HP faster.

That AI will 1 shot you, if a player one shots another on level player, whatever that player did will get nerfed.

Why would you want to be everywhere at the same time? As it is a teamwork map why can’t people understand it might actually take some risk and camp somewhere? I understand they give bags….
But i did all Legendary Achievements in Silverwastes while people were farming, this was easier as ppl digging up chests tend not to run to an other side of a map took me 90minutes in total, had soms luck with the spawns though…

I doubt anyone would actually have benefit using an alternate form without speedboost…

If you want a mount just for the speedboost: Not if you get a perma swiftness even if it was 25%,and never if you want more then 33%. Never! I do not mind a thing for esthetics, but not with mods, bonusses or otherwise. The kites were a bad idea (Due to limited availablity (RNG and stuff), mounts (as a speed modifier, I mean, would be horendous.
If it would be in the gem store with 34% or higher speedboost the whole game would revolt against pay2win. I can guarantee it.

If 1 watchwork sprocket could make a community mad, think of a person being able to buy +50% or +100% speed AND while transformed, allowing to bypass all mobs, removing any intelligence to speedclear, while creating Uber-farmers and map clearers.

SO NO! And I gave you the handreach, a tonic/mount wouldn’t be a huge problem, even utility wouldn’t be a problem, speedboost would.

Like I said If I’d think of something it would be a nice dolyak, giving Bank acces for 1 character or 20 maybe 40 slots inventory, with walking speed so I could walk around tyria at leisure. no attacks for the dolly ( I could think of things to unlock if we’d get one)

#1. Because those are rare spawns that you can’t always rely on spawning so if someone announces one at a camp you b-line for that camp because now’s your chance and you might not see it again for a long time.

#2. +33% run speed is the slowest attainable top movement speed in any MMO (aside from GW1 as well), it’s simply not fast enough, not to mention default movement speed is actually slowed down as well. Look at a Norn or Charr’s running animation. Look how unnaturally plodding it looks until they have at LEAST a 15% run speed buff.

It’s like the original run speed was initially faster and animations were based on it, but then arenanet slowed the speed down for PVP purposes so it’s not as easy to run away.

Even swiftness is far too slow for a “travel from point A to Point B” speed.

I’ll accept no mounts if we have adequate waypoint travel. You take away adequate waypoint travel? I want mounts.

Funny thing. TESO has both mounts (up to 65-75% increased run speed, and a sprint function on the mounts to even go faster temporarily) and waypoint travel. It’s even free to travel from waypoint to waypoint. Here you pay at least 1.3 silver even to travel 50 feet to the nearest waypoint. The world doesn’t feel small either.

Mounts only make a world feel small when it’s like WoW where you have 300% speed FLYING mounts so you can just fly over all obstacles.

Dead players dragging everybody down.

Just a little feedback for ANet and something they might have not considered when designing the Mordrem bosses. At least in the new bossfights, dead people are everywhere. Now I get it, sometimes you have lagg, sometimes you can’t react in time, whatever. But after the 4th or 5th time today of me being the only one alive at amber (out of ~20 people) I’ve had enough! What’s wrong with all those players?
Their useless body is needlessly scaling the boss up, they attract other players who might get tricked into thinking ressing the completely dead is a good idea instead of doing damage/popping bubbles, and let’s be honest, those bossfights are a damage race. They are actively dragging down the whole map by just lying there!

Why not just WP and run again? The rewards are given to everyone who participated, even those outside the area without the downsides of being a burden to everybody else, most of all the guy who has to solo the fricking boss because apparently 20 people can’t be bothered to move outside of the bright orange zone and just die within one or two minutes. By now most players have realized how to make gold/silver vulnerable but 90% of the time I (reluctantly, because of this very reason,)command indigo I see it fail because around three quarters of my little zerglings run straight into their AoE and get killed after around a minute or so. Now that’s fine but why for gods sake are you not WP’ing, thus making the fight harder for everybody else?!

I don’t mind bad players, but as it stands now they are an actual burden not only to myself but the whole map and from what I’ve seen the sole reason 5/5 rarely happens.
So please ANet, for future bossfights please auto-WP dead players to the nearest waypoint, maybe even free of charge. (Pretty please.)

PS: Sorry for making it sound a bit rant-y.

edit: Shamelessly changed topic name to attract more traffic.

A big part of the problem is only 1 waypoint, and by the time you waypoint and run back, the boss is dead.

We already paid for the skins, once, possibly with cash, why do we need to pay for them over and over if we put them on a character that is leveling up as they get upgrades?

I’m currently having to blow through transmute charges on my warrior alt that is using belinda’s greatsword skin.

I can apply HoM skins and achievement skins for free, why not BLTC?

Hopefully someone can answer this – can you still hear it when it’s covered by both traditional sheathed weapons like the shield, as well as more specialized things like engineer weapon kits?

Yes he works when covered by shields or engineer kits. He also works on clones (to keep the enemy guessing) and works while transformed.

His dialogue is hilarious, and I’m awfully tempted to buy one, but I have the feeling his non-stop chattering might get on my nerves after a while.

Clicking ‘hide backpack’ in the equipment panel shuts him up without having to change out packs. -(Edit: My bad, the hide backpack flag is supposed to quiet him but doesn’t yet. That’s an update coming in a future patch)

Thank you! I was going to make a post requesting this, I like to do WvW sometimes and I don’t want to blow a transmute charge every time I want to do wvw.

Speaking of this, why can’t gemstore skins be free to apply like hall of monuments skins, achievement skins, and gemstore outfits?

I mean I already paid for the skin once, with cash, and now I’m having to pay for it again and again if I want to use the skin on a character that is leveling and gets upgrades.

Game Updates: Traits

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Devildoc.6721

One of the disconnects in philosophy I’m seeing as I do these traits is that players see the traits as being available for the LOWEST possible level, and expect content that unlocks the traits to be appropriate for the lowest possible levels, 30, 60, and 80.

Devs on the other hand see it as a range, and have no problem putting an adept trait in a level 60 area because the traits to them are 30-60, to them you should not expect to run a trait that is earned from a level 55-60 area until you’re level 55.

Players want to slot that trait at level 36.

To me, at level 48, I want to slot a trait that is in a level 55+ zone (Sparkfly Fen, the trait is Profession III)

I think that a good middle ground would be to have all adept traits be under level 50 content, so narrowing the range from 30-50 (maybe 25-50, it should be possible to earn some traits before you can actually use them to spur you on to gain levels so you can use your traits), and all master traits should be 60-75 content (rather than 60-80, maybe even 55-75) and grandmaster traits are all level 75-80 content.

I should add that downscaling makes being able to unlock a trait before you can earn it still feel appropriate. The first trait I unlocked around level 35 or so was Arms I, which was in a 15-25 level zone (Kessex Hills, finding a splended chest in Earthlord’s Gap), and since I was downscaled it felt fine.

So I think that traits currently located in Sparkfly Fen and Timberline Falls could move to Kessex Hills, Brisban Wildlands, Snowden Drifts, and Diessa Plateau possibly. More appropriate feeling zones to earn traits in have been Gendarran Fields, Fields of Ruin, Lornar’s Pass, Dredgehaunt Cliffs, and Harathi Hinterlands, with Bloodtide Coasts kind of pushing the limit but still feeling appropriate.

Here’s another nugget of feedback.

Developers probably think that players can simply ask for help from other players or guildmates for inappropriately leveled content to unlock a trait, or story dungeons, etc.

HOWEVER, the response other players will give you is “you can buy the trait at the trainer”

That defeats the entire purpose of earning it in the game. Buying a trait for skill points and gold should be for convenience, not a necessity, which it becomes if a trait unlock is too high leveled or requires a group and the content is not something groups of people normally do (world bosses that people do for loot anyway okay, story mode dungeons not okay)

Mounts [merged]

But now they’re moving towards zones with fewer and fewer waypoints. Now we have a zone with 1 waypoint.

Walking across a zone in combat with trash mobs that aren’t worth the time of day to fight is not fun or engaging.

anyone arguing against mounts should be agruing FOR more waypoints in Silverwastes.

If you’re against mounts AND want only 1 waypoint per zone.. there’s something wrong with you.

No it would be really fun to reduce every bit of intelligent play from thing game…
Remove all mechanics. Please…

How difficult is it in game to get an actual speed boost?
Only mesmer is dependant on a bit of help from others. but they could manage with runes , food or boosters if needed

When in Silverwaste there is a reason why there is only 1 waypoint atm, it’s to balance the “minigame” which IS silverwaste, if you cold teleport/hyperspeed or be launched to wherever you needed to go this would debalance it…

SO good for A-Net to put 1 WP.

And NO, Still NO, NO to mounts. Except maybe for my proposed walking speed dolyak. (-50% speed)

It’s large enough that if you’re at blue oasis and someone calls out a legendary attacking redrock, you will probably miss the kill whether you try running, or you waypoint back and try running from the opposite direction. I’m pretty sure you’ll miss the legendary at blue oasis if you aren’t at indigo or amber or blue as well.

If you die in a breach event (say you jump down in amber’s hole and the troll aoes your landing spot instantly killing you), nobody resses you, and by the time you run across the zone, the troll is dead.

You would have wasted all that time (and half of the breach) getting no credit.
