while the mechanics of this are true, for most players who aren’t really actively paying attention to the bubbles the best course of action is still to avoid aoe.

No, the best course of action is to pay attention or just tag and leave so you don’t upscale.

There’s a lot of mouthbreathers who you can never expect to actually pay attention, they’ll just call you an elitist for asking them to. Expecting no aoe is a relatively easy expectation (and they still don’t follow it)

Now someone explain what makes the thresher teleport and that the stacks on it actually do ><

The teleport is RNG imo. People say not to AoE as some think the bubbles popping will cause it to heal or teleport, but popping those bubbles doesn’t seem to do anything. More recently, I’ve heard people blaming the teleport on using CC, so I purposely tried to stun, daze, knockback, immobilize and chill it, yet it had no effect.

I haven’t been able to get a decent solo on the thrasher since the first week, so I haven’t been able to reliably test it. On my last run however, I was the first person near it and it went invulnerable and teleported after I hit it once. I have also noticed that after it does a certain mechanic, like when it plants itself in the ground, it will teleport right after. For example, I’ve seen it teleport, plant itself, then teleport again.

The wiki says that destroying 2 bubbles within a close range of the thrasher will cause it to teleport, but I’ve purposely tried that and sometimes it doesn’t. I think that’s just the RNG lining up. My best results have been AoEing after it starts spinning, since it usually doesn’t go invulnerable, though occasionally it will right at the start of the spin. Sometimes it seems like destroying all the bubbles stops it from teleporting.

As for the poisonous buildup stacks it gains, they’re caused by the poison pools. They tick about once every second, which grants it 1 stack if the thrasher is in one of pools. The poison pools are caused by the poison vents if you fail to destroy them within a few seconds. The poison vents are spawned in the surrounding areas after it plants itself in the ground. Once the thrasher gains 5 stacks, it will eventually shake off the poison, doing the large AoE.

I’ve noticed that if I poisoned the thresher on my thief applying spider poison and then hitting it once it immediately went invuln. It happened pretty much every time i tried it.. so.. it could be something with conditions, or poison specifically. Popping the bubbles gives it stacks of a poison, so if you stack a poison on it it might trigger.

On a glass light armor it’s 4k..

My bad for the number, thought the hit was a crit.

also, building for survivability in this game is just.. bad.

building full survivability doesn’t even really double your health or toughness, but you do about 1/4 of the damage as a glass character if not less.

I never said to go full nomad bunker. I was more in the line of soldier (which acording to my calculations on an exotic engineer has 28% dps loss, a 49% health increase and a 35 armor increase, no might, stacks or fury). There are also other less drastic options like taking a defensive utility, switching a trait, taking another offhand weapon,… .

The game is focused pretty much on active dodging and not being hit for most things, so for one enemy to make you go tanky stats and do garbage damage is.. well bad considering the other mobs still reinforce going glass and dodging.

It is actually a good thing since it promotes build diversity . Now you have to/can make choices instead of taking a setup that is good against almost anything.

Soldier’s is a lot more of a dps loss than 28%.

having about 4% crit chance and only base crit damage is not a 28% decrease.

snip

Staff is higher damage and with the 100% uptime fire fields, as long as your party has others that can roll blast finishers you’re much better off not using scepter (too condition focused)

I’d also opt for arcane shield over signet of fire. Lower crit chance but arcane shield can mean the difference between getting a meteor shower off or having to dodge and put it on cooldown.

Staff is great yes…if you have a second Ele running LH build
Scepter is just for might, anyone that uses it to auto attack should delete their Ele.
Imo, run D/F if you don’t know your Guardian, S/F LH if you have a Guard that knows what active defense is an Staff if you have another Ele running LH.

Arcane Shield is a crutch with a massive CD, I’d suggest going 66002 instead of 66200 if you really need more survivability .

Arcane shield is so that you can just keep using meteor shower till it fully channels rather than having to dodge and put it on 30s cooldown immediately after you started the channel so you’re not getting the full effect. Meteor shower is a 24-30s cd so basically every other MS youi will be able to guarantee the full channel.

Silverwastes rewards are backwards

in Living World

Posted by: Devildoc.6721

Devildoc.6721

Yes, it’s very backwards. And it’s another reason you’ll see players running from fort to fort. Breach boss to breach boss.

What should happen is, as long as you complete an event in the zone, all participants should see the rewards so long as you remain in that circled area. So no more hitting a mob, and then leaving and waiting for others to complete it.

Which is pretty much the definition of leeching. But, because of the grind, I really can’t blame them. It may be leeching, but it’s also the most efficient means to grind organs and crests.

Sadly.

If you make it a circled area then you’ll NEVER convince dead people to waypoint and run back, since they won’t want to get screwed out of the reward on the run back.

I think that Anet meant for these teragriff were meant to be unavoidable in the belief that it would promote other defense. The damage is “low” (~2K crits on the glassiest character, If I’m not mistaken.) so taken some toughness, vitality can be helpful. Also protection, weakness and cc are good alternatives.

On a glass light armor it’s 4k..

I’m generally in SW on my thief, using sword/pistol. If any mordrem’s giving me too much grief (and isn’t using point blank aoe) I shadowstep into its face, pinning it there, and wave my sword around wildly which both damages and interrupts it. Things get sticky, I dodge or Roll for Initiative away and stealth-heal, then jump back in its face.

Also I’m not zerker, so a hit or two or three doesn’t wreck me.

I could see killing them on a thief since you have a spammable stun/channeled evade, but for everyone else.. I dunno, just seems like your best hopes are that there are other people around to help kill them and spread out the targetting on their projectiles. But if you find yourself alone with one or more and it’s focusing all of its bursts on you you’re kind of screwed.

Dodge? If that doesn’t help, just burst them down. They have real low hp; takes me maybe 2-3 seconds to kill a lvl80 one.

They have relatively high hp vs the wolves and healers and trolls and thrashers.

You can dodge maybe 3 of the projectiles meaning you get nailed by the other 3.

Okay it’s been many weeks, but I still don’t really know how to deal with these effectively at all. Every other mordrem has some sort of weakness. Husks are weak to conditions and their immobilize root travels in a straight line, easily dodged or sidestepped even, they’re also melee. So they just take time to wear down, even the champ is easy. Wolves don’t do much if you attack them head on and don’t let them get behind you or to the side of you and they have low health. Teragriff chargers/bashers you can interrupt their charge, which has a cooldown so you can neuter most of their danger (though their hitbox is still ridiculous). Vine roots you can range and just dodge the clustered projectiles (unfortunately they can’t be reflected). Thrashers that charge can be sidestepped because they’re slow, and even if you take damage, condition removal deals with most of it, hitting them directly from behind also does lots of damage. Mordrem Thrasher Leechers can be interrupted when trying to health drain and it has a cooldown, and THEIR bursting roots you can just walk away from without them doing any damage. They only do damage to you if you sit still.

But Teragriffs that shoot projectiles?

I don’t get their weakness at all.

Their projectiles cannot be sidestepped because they heatseek, they do damage as soon as they burst from the ground so you can’t just stay on the move. They cannot be reflected, they have like no cooldown so interrupting is near useless, and they fire in groups of 6 so they exhaust your dodges/invulns/blocks and you still get hit multiple times for 4000 damage each. They also have relatively high hp so you can’t just burst them down.

If you have more than 1 on you you’re pretty much dead from my experience.

What’s the secret to them, what’s the strat to minimize the amount of damage you take from them?

How to survive dungeon stacking?

in Elementalist

No, don’t use armor of earth in dungeons… that’s ridiculous advice.

First of all you shouldn’t only be using staff. Sometimes the party will lack might+fury in which case it’d be wise to use either S/F or D/F (never S/D, that’s an atrocious weaponset). I suggest D/F, as scepter is actually terrible unless you’re literally only using it to stack might. Someone using scepter should anticipate to be using LH to attack with. With focus offhand you have a lot of defensive utility: swirling winds, magnetic wave, obsidian flesh. Use when appropriate.

If you are staff, you should be using either 66200, 66002, 64220, 64202 — one of those trait point combinations. If you choose to go 6 in air, then take tempest defense for your grandmaster for 20% damage increase against stunned foes (deep freeze works wonders with it).

Your utilities should typically be arcane wave, signet of fire, conjure ice bow, glyph of storms — alternate between these mostly. As a staff elementalist, you’re going to have an easier time the faster things die. You have the absolute best AoE potential like this.

Glyph of storms used in earth attunement pulses 11 times in 10 seconds for essentially perma-blinding up to 5 targets. This is extremely helpful defense against trash mobs. Alternatively, glyph of storms in air attunement has 36 lightning bolt impacts that each inflict 2 stacks of vulnerability. This is very helpful to take down bosses as it quickly puts them at 25 stacks of vulnerability (25% more incoming damage).

As a staff elementalist, you’ll typically want to begin an encounter on earth.

Generally speaking, a nice way to begin a fight is…

Earth #2 > swap to air > use glyph of storms (lightning storm) > quickly swap to fire > put down a lava font and the eruption from earth should blast in the lava font dealing damage and stacking might/fury. Immediately after the lava font, use the third skill in fire attunement to inflict burning as it’ll proc your 10% damage modifier in the fire trait line. Quickly afterwards, spawn an ice bow and do ice storm (#4) followed by #3 if you’re in close range (#3 on ice bow is decent burst + provides a negligible amount of chill). It’s good to use in close range as it’s nearly instant cast.

Afterwards, cast another lava font followed by a meteor shower and continue autoattacking + casting lava fonts off cooldown.

Aside from that, make use of your dodgerolls whenever you have endurance for it. Dodging is 0.75s of invulnerability and just about all bosses in this game have predictable and rather slow attacks.

Traherne being Sylvari could have been changed maybe. The Wild Hunt gave Anet an easy out storytelling wise. It reinforces the lore for the new race that each one has a personal mission, but it could have been reinforced in a different way, especially since they (I presume) knew the coming PS would be Sylvari heavy. You can deny that Traherne was a central figure in the PS, but it was a running joke that he was the hero of the PS while you tagged along. It’s not just a few people that feel that way. He was a main hero, I don’t think it’s reasonable to say he wasn’t.

Changing Scarlet into another race doesn’t work as well. If this is heading where I think it is, it’s important that she was Sylvari and will reinforce the continuity of the story as a whole. If we just jump from focus to focus each season, then we’d be getting complaints that Anet didn’t develop the story enough and it was shallow and disconnected.

I have patience and faith. Rytlock is surely setting up the next focus for the LS, so that reassures me that they have a long term plan. As long as the story is good – and on the whole it is – I don’t care that the Sylvari have been featured more often than not. The others will get their turn and I plan to be around long-term to see it play out.

I don’t see how Scarlet had to be Sylvari at all.

as for the extremely insistant person who is just plain wrong.. yes the other races are there, but as supporting cast only. The story arcs place Sylvari above the rest in importance.

Your headcanon does not matter.

Look, had Season 2 been the ONLY major story that was Sylvari focused because of Mordremoth, I wouldn’t be sick of them.

Scarlet is the main problem, even though she’s gone we spent too much time on her which meant that we go from a Sylvari focused second half of the PS, due to Trahearne leading the Pact and his Wild Hunt, to a Sylvari focused Season 1 of LS because the most central character is Scarlet, to a Sylvari focused Season 2 because of Mordremoth and the connections to the Pale Tree and Sylvari race.

Had Scarlet not been Sylvari, it would have been fine, both stories would just make sense and it wouldn’t seem like too much favoritism of the race by the writing staff.

If Scarlet had been Asura, leader of the Inquest after Kudu, using findings from Thaumanova and the Infinity Coil on Dragon magic to control the minds of the various factions of those unlikely alliances between very xenophobic groups (instead of Scarlet supposedly convincing the most xenophobic groups in Tyria to work together through threats or whatever, it’d make more sense had they been mind controlled by dragon magic), had the motivations for tapping into the leylines been to harvest dragon energy to control everyone in the world but waking up the dragon was n accident..

I wouldn’t be sick of Sylvari, things would have made more sense

If Scarlet would have been Human, a leader of the White Mantle, trying to undermine the Queen’s Jubilee would have made WAY more sense, and instead of various Xenophobic groups it would have been mostly white mantle, later revealed to be led by Lazarus the Dire. There could have been a resurgence of Mursaat or maybe he was the last of the Unseen Ones, either way he has reason to want revenge against Humans, Humans and Asura I suppose.

If that’d been the case, I wouldn’t be sick of Sylvari, and things would have made sense.

But no, Scarlet was Sylvari, and the most Mary Sue character you could imagine. I mean she made Genies blush with the amount of Wish Fulfillment she was doing for some writer on the team. She was just badly written in every way, she didn’t even have any motives, just “she’s cRaZy tee-hee! Later taters!”

She didn’t need to be Sylvari, but she was, which makes the first 3 major story arcs of GW2 into Sylvarifests.

I mean, I get that the writers like Sylvari, a lot, but can they put down their pet race for a bit and realize there’s many other races that haven’t gotten center stage yet? No the player character being a race other than Sylvari does not really count, because that’s not the canon hero. When GW3 is made, Zhaitan will be brought down by Trahearne and his pact, united with Destiny’s Edge, just like Kormir brought down Abaddon. It’s necessary because “nameless heroes” is just tacky.

Yep. The rest of Destiny’s Edge, Destiny’s Edge 2.0, your character, the three factions, leadership across Tyria, Risen, and etc all took a backseat to the Sylvari.

Hey hey. The bad guy in TMNT was human so obviously the entire series an movies were about humans. One of the many enemies in Star Wars was Darth Vader so obviously the entire original trilogy was about him and people who dress in black.

That’s funny because according to George Lucas, The 6 Star Wars movies as we have seen so far ARE the saga of Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader. He is the central character of all 6 movies. He’s the “chosen one” after all.

If you ask random GW2 players what Season 1 of Living Story was about the top answer I’m betting will be “Scarlet”

People might differ on their answers on personal story, but the 4 top answers would be “You”, “Zhaitan”, “Trahearne” and “The Pact”

For Season 2 it’ll likely be “Mordremoth” “The Pale Tree” and “Caithe”

Every now and then i enter a path sellers lfg and say they should be ashamed of themselves. Then exit the group.

Every time i see a staff ele i force myself not to vote kick it from a dungeon, instead i grind my teeth and watch it how he/she spams fireballs with no attument switch ever and then die max range from all of us. Then i don’t res him/her the whole run because f you start using dodge and stop checking your facebook.

I do the same from above when a necro is in a group. Or a ranger. Because max range-spamming 1 rocks.

I change my armor’s apperance way to often. Sometimes weekly.

After i flushed 200gold in mystic forge and only got a few pearl exotics i quit playing for 2 months.

I like like world completion it relaxes me.

I strongly resent people who ping precursor drops on world boss event. I’m jelous besause in 2 years of playing the most expensive item that dropped to me is a hammer worth 20 gold.

I like running fractals even tho i know i’m going to get a uninfused ring on lvl 50.

Once i vote kicked afk-er on the phone after being afk for 10 min because i wanted to finish asuran fractal because Mentalist was on in 30 min on tv and i wanted to watch it.

Um just some education for you, camping in fire attunement is the best damage for ele, you might swap attunements for a heal field or for cc’ing trash, but you are losing damage by changing attunements. Best damage for an ele is 100% lava font uptime with 1 and 3 used whenever off cooldown and 4 used as an extra dodge and 5 used if big aoe is desired preferrably with maxed out might/vuln/arcane lightning proc, maybe conjuring a frost bow, popping 4, 3 at point blank range, and then discarding, maybe 5 on something actually vulnerable to a stun..

If you’re swapping attunement, there’d better be a utility reason for it, and not just because he’s facerolling every skill not on cooldown

When I was a noob I swapped attunements a lot, then I learned how the class skills actually worked and what did the most damage.

Uh, you’re out of your gourd. The central characters for all story in GW2 since launch have been Sylvari. Humans and other races have only been supporting cast. Central figure of PS was Trahearne, central figure of LS Season 1 was Scarlet, central figure of LS Season 2 now is Caithe.

This is pretty accurate when you think about it. So much so that jokes about Trahearne abounded with him taking credit for everything. Heck, Zhaitan took a backseat at the end of the personal story. And then Scarlet took center stage with her nut-job antics. And now, it’s the Pale Tree and Caithe. But, to be fair, Season 2 does focus around the Jungle Dragon so that’s to be expected.

Again, pretty accurate and something I’d not really thought about before. Hope the Sylvari aren’t the Jungle Dragon’s minions in disguise.

Regardless, expect the norn to get the focus when the Ice Dragon takes the stage. Maybe the little guys will get more attention when Bubbles arrives too . . . unless quaggans become a race . . . then all cards off the table.

the S——- dragon (name for the water dragon starts with an S according to the scroll of the five true gods.. some people call him Steve..)

I’ve noticed a pattern in the names of the Elder Dragons each taking a name that is similar (though not exact) to a mythological being of different cultures.. Jormag for Jormungandr (the Norse world serpent), Kralkatorrik for Krakatoa (Javan volcano and deity), Primordus for Primordial (the original Greek Gods that preceded the Titans, Uranus, Gaia, etc) Zhaitan for Shaitan, the name for the Djinn who would not bow before Adam in Islam (becoming the Devil), and Mordremoth for Mordred (the traitor in Arthurian Legend)

So I like to think that the Deep Sea Elder Dragon will be named after either Chinese, or some New World Native mythology. I’m hedging my bets on Chinese due to his proximity to Cantha, there’s a very important dragon in Chinese Mythology named Shenlong, who controls the storms and causes rain, and all Dragons in Chinese Mythology are associated with water. So it makes sense.

anyway.. sorry for the tangent.. but I expect that Norn will get a lot of focus in Jormag, Charr, Humans, and Elonians (more Humans) will get focus involving Kralkatorrik, and Canthans (Humans) will get the focus for Shenlong or whatever anet decides to name him. Asura might get focus for an arc dealing with Primordus, but I have a hunch that arc will have just as much to do with the Dwarves as it would Asura.

Traherne was not introduced into the personal story until claw island unless you were Sylvari. Scarlet was the antagonist in season one but not revealed until the Crown Pavillion. Caithe did not come into season two until episode 6. This was where she had a more prominent role rather than simply being present.

My argument earlier was that just because one of the prominent characters happens to be of a certain race, doesn’t mean that the entire story revolves around that race.

In all 3 cases they are the dominant character in the story, no matter when they were introduced backstory reveals that it was always about them and they were the most important character in the story even if they weren’t overtly shown until later.

Yeah maybe you don’t meet Trahearne until later but his entire life has been about finding a way to cleanse Orr which becomes the main focus of the story once all the branches merge into the pact storyline.

Yeah maybe you don’t meet Scarlet until after the Queen’s Jubilee, but she was behind all the various alliances and havok being done all around the world for the past several months, even if she was never named she was shown to be responsible for everything like a bad (and I do mean bad) Scooby Doo villain.

well, OP, what happen to the “play the game as you like” principle ?

there isn’t much playing the game as you like when you get stuck on a dead map that’s not progressing.

Note I’m not saying disallow taxiing I’m saying find a way to solve the source of the problem so that people will be more inclined to stay on maps rather than all flood onto near breach maps, between adding extractable body parts to legendary mobs that pop up during defense events, shovels for dolyak events, and well it’d be nice to have more event variety and more events that counted towards assault progress so that it went faster. Basically right now you’re looking at if you do opt to stay in maps rather than taxi, about 45 min-hour of sheer unrewarding boredom, vs taxiing and getting more loot, and getting your collection parts with less effort.

There should be something making it worth staying in maps, and perseverance just isn’t cutting it.

People taxiing are just leeching other’s work to finish some useless collection faster. Why can’t some enjoy doing a defense for the sake of doing it, instead of doing it to be the first to obtain some ugly shiny pants ?

Because the defense events are extremely repetitive and boring, we’ve been doing them for over a month.

There needs to be more event variety but we get the same defense events over and over and over and I really do understand people being sick of them. They haven’t been fun for about 6 weeks now. They were fun oh… the first day. But they repeat SO often that they wore out their welcome by the second day.

Charr, Norn, and Asura almost never get a chance to shine in story. They’re only ever supporting characters.

and since I can guarantee you we won’t kill Mordremoth next episode that concludes seaon 2.. Season 3 will also be Sylvari until you’re sick of them and want nothing more than to completely incinerate the pale tree and purge the species from existence.

Does Labyrinth tier affect loot?

in Living World

Posted by: Devildoc.6721

People aren’t getting labyrinth to tier 3 anymore…

I noticed this as well. It happens when not all 5 breach bosses are defeated, thus people are not getting the big key, and have less incentive to enter the labyrinth. They rather just jump to the next breach in another map (for mordrem organs I guess?).

Try to get in a map / organize a map that kills all 5 and labyrinth will be full.

As for the original question: as far as I know tier doesn’t affect loot.

Its happens even with maps that kill all 5. Had it happen every time yesterday when I was doing SW. None of them completed tier 3 (probably 50-60% of those lab runs we had all 5 bosses killed). Closest we came once was being 3 off from completing tier 3. Was really disappointing.

Well, COMPLETING tier 3 is just an event.. just completing tier 2 and GETTING to tier 3 is what I’ve always done before, waiting until T3 to open the chest. But I guess people have brought up a good point too .. save keys for next release.. never know they might beef up rewards with new armor piece boxes or something.

Even in maps where we cleared all the bosses, we’re failing tier 1 of the labyrinth because not enough players collecting, that means it’s impossible to get it to tier 3 if you fail the first try at tiering up from 1.

So as of right now I’m just letting my keys stack up because I don’t want to waste them if tier affects loot.

I think you should be checked to see whether you started outside the JP’s area, so no parking allowed.

Then you can complete the JP from scratch.

Then you can be rewarded the same loot table as a wvw rank chest, scaled to the level of the area the JP is in. (so basically two blues or a blue and green).

Each completed JP will be worth 100-500 points, you get a chest after 5000 points.

There, now JP loot is fixed:-)

Uh, that’s less rewards than currently, nobody would repeat JP’s for that garbage.

At first I thought “oh great, I can’t go inside those huge cones or I’ll get busted, this is going to take forever trying to memorize cone timing.”

But you can actually move around a lot. You just can’t attempt a knockout until you’re outside of cones. But running through one doesn’t get you spotted. it’s a tame stealth course.

I’ve never seen a mesmer actually charge before they port, so them getting money from it is on a volunteer basis. If you don’t want to pay them, don’t.

I’ve ported before, most people don’t tip, for the few that do, it’s appreciated, for those that don’t, it’s okay, mesmers are just using a skill anet gave them to help some people out.

Well, part of the refresh problem is because people are joining the groups really fast. Every time someone joins one of the groups in the list, the entire list goes through a refresh animation. The animation is the real problem, but part of it is because everything is in one unorganized list for open world. I’d still like Orr, Maguuma Wastes, Southsun, and Frostgorge to be separate, cause I’d hate to be looking for a silverwastes group and click into a frostgorge group due to the refresh. That’s the same problem we’re having now. Also the more subsections, the less likely you’ll get the random improperly advertised dungeon groups (can we report those? Maybe the leaders would learn a lesson after a day suspension), people trying to sell precursors over LFG (seriously? That seems like abuse of the system to me) and guild advertisements (possibly abuse as well)

I don’t know why people bother to jump from breach to breach… you still have to do 100000 defense events because you need 4000 crests for boot boxes and the amulet. You will have 50 bladders by the time you manage to get that many crests.

no, this is wrong on both counts. #1 you make more than enough badges from the few T3 defense events just before a breach, breaching/selling body parts, and the labyrinth. I have thousands saved up right now for next episode and I only have 1 spleen, and I’m missing 1 bladder. so that’s 4 parts still.

Secondly, you can get leg boxes by repeating the story on alts, and you can get boots by having high magic find and bandit chest farming during time out. I found all 3 of my boot boxes in about an hour and even got a few more boot boxes just to salvage for ecto.

A t3 defence event nets me 3-8 crests… the body parts give me 15 crests, but cost 12 crests to get… so a net of 3…. i’ve opened ~100 bandit chests, which since the nerf only give back 1-2 crests, but cost 5, so i’ve lost ~300 crests from that and not a single box.

So not really sure what you are talking about…

you can always get at least 25 for body parts.
if youre giving them away for only 15, the cryptobotanist is stealing from you and you need to wait until he has a better offer for the specific part you have.

dont let that rat get away with theft.

Does his position effect what he gives? or is there some other variable? I did notice that sometimes he would give 25, but it is usually only 15.

Not sure if there’s a reliable way to tell what part he’s looking for. The parts he’s looking for and position change randomly (along predesignated spots anyway) for all I know.

For those complaining about the Sylvari taking centre stage they’re the race we know the least about and the LS is about the Jungle dragon which has explicit ties with the Sylvari.

Yeah we get why they’re at the center of it…but they were also at the center of S1 of the Living Story with Scarlet and in the personal story with Treesus. Yet another story revolving around Sylvari is a little tiresome.

Trehearne doesn’t really have any bigger a part than your race story or your order story, and the only order with Sylvari is Priory so I think PS is pretty well balanced in terms of races. LS S1 had a Sylvari main villain for all the same reasons we’re seeing a Sylvari centred S2.

Will people complain that the story is too focussed on the Norn when we fight Jormag? Or the Charr when we fight Kralk?

IMO it would be stupid not to have the Sylvari as a major player in the Mordy storyline, it’s a no-brainer. Plus it’s been pretty cool for me from a lore perspective as I know plenty about the other 4 races already from GW1, and very little about the Sylvari

They have a whopping 25 years of history for the entire species. That’s not a lot. We know less about Asura and Norn frankly because they have much longer histories and we only know the surface of it, LITERALLY the surface of it in the case of Asura.

We know almost NOTHING about them before they came to the surface.

All we know about Asura is stereotypes as well.

An entire species of people don’t survive with all of them being genius scientists, someone’s gotta bake the bread, someone’s gotta do routine maintenance on infrastructure, someone’s gotta sew clothes.

We know the entire history of the sylvari, the only real mystery being the origins of the Pale Tree, that’s it. We know everything there is to know about them as a species already. The only “revelations” are about individuals, not their species or society.

Frankly, Mordremoth and the entire Sylvari focused story after personal story should have waited until AFTER another dragon. We should have gone for Kralkatorrik or Jormag first.

Kralkatorrik would be interesting, as it wouldn’t entirely be Charr focused, it would be Charr AND Human focused, we’d need to be able to access the crystal desert south of Ebonhawke, and we’d probably need to solidify a Charr-Human truce to be able to get large amounts of supplies down there.

Not to mention it brings you into close proximity with the desolation and Palawa Joko and Elona, you know, a new continent, and part of Guild Wars Beyond that we were supposed to get (explaining the resurgence of Palawa Joko) but got cancelled as the GW1 live team got called in to help finish GW2 instead.

We’ve had Sylvari up to our eyeballs in the story since launch, a change would be welcome.

Charr, Norn, and Asura almost never get a chance to shine in story. They’re only ever supporting characters.

I go on my 18 slot bag character and my bags go from 1 row of 10 and 1 row of 8 to 2 rows of 9 when I log in When I go to a character with 20 slot bags it goes to 2 rows of 9 and 1 row of 2. I’d prefer keep it at rows of 10.

Bags are displayed, windows client, windowed mode, not full inventory, every graphics setting on max except post processing on low, shaders on medium (things aren’t so glossy then)

Here’s the response to all of those: Player bases that aren’t facerollers

You find facerollers playing all classes. Stop fooling yourself.

The difference is the frequency.

You might find one GS mesmer using illusory wave at the wrong times in like… a week, usually less. When you find one, you whisper/say don’t do that, it knocks the mob out of aoe, so you actually make it die slower., and the skill does less damage then your auto attack, save it for an interrupt on a charge or to knock a mob INTO aoe

They say thanks they didn’t know it was less damage and didn’t know it messed us up.

You see facerolling rangers every day dozens of times a day, you likely see one at every event even if you’re hopping maps, it isn’t even the same one it’s A DIFFERENT mouthbreather on this map. I don’t know how the ranger playerbase has SO MANY facerollers in it.

You use /say no response, you use /whisper, usually no response, and if they DO respond it’s something like “LOL u just mad becuz some ranger kill u in pvp!” Usually the same case on map too.

Like I also said, you need far fewer badges than you think too because boot boxes can come from bandit lockboxes and it’s affected by magic find. Pop some boosters, have 5 stacks of perserverence, and you’ll get boxes.

Are you sure it’s malice and not just ignorance?

Seems like there is a certain class of ranger that needs to be told things several times for it to sink in. Yeah, if you ask people not to, there will always be some wise guy who does it more, just to be a kitten, but many people will listen. You’d be surprised how many people in a pug Zerg are actually really new to the game and don’t know this stuff.

(I have two rangers BTW, and I know not every ranger is a skill clicking bear bow, but it does seem common).

It isn’t just ignorance, it’s outright incompetence really. Because you can inform them that the knockback is disruptive (educating them and removing ignorance out of the equation) and they’ll still do it anyway just because they’re facerolling mouthbreathers.

I guess some posters tend to forget there are players as well who do not care for speedruns and world trains, playing for fun. Being 1337 might bring people the feeling they should nerf all utility into the ground as their formidable DPS is the one and only thing which makes Tyria tick… But there will always be casuals and they’ll run builds which are easy and after pvt warrior and clerics guard the easiest playable character must be zerk ranger… 1500 range pewpews with their res-pet… The fact they can do anything all other builds can do but worse makes them low skilled by nature… Some are actually taking bears to make elitists know they are not interested in all aspects of 1337ism…

sarcasm? Never heard of it ….

Their playstyle being DISRUPTIVE to other players has nothing to do with elitism, it has everything to do with them being willfully bad players that most people want to avoid if at all possible because playing around them is frustratingly bad.

On many weapon sets the 1 skill is actually the highest dps on the weapon, the other skills are for mobility, utility, and extra effects like conditions.

Still some people can’t stop to insult people as #1 spammers to show that they are
soooo much better players .. which maybe let people think they are also better if they just spam everything they have.

Another problem is maybe that we can’t change the position of the skills on the skillbar. In other games i would maybe put the knockback as a situational skill as far right as possible.

But as a level 80 ranger people should really have learned to avoid the #3
and that only 1,2,5 makes sense most of the time with longbow.

However that so much people simply stil haven’t learned that shows maybe why ANet gave us something like the NPE.

People insulting over using autoattack and not using every skill off cooldown are just ignorant, ignore them. Know how your skills work, use them intelligently. Longbow 3 and 4 are very situational, and 5 can be situational, 1 and 2 are your bread and butter on that weapon.

Ignorant people say that same hogwash about ele. They think you need to be constantly switching attunements and mashing all your skills off cooldown, when in fact you lose damage when you do that (as staff anyway)

Highest damage for staff ele IS to stay in fire attunement as much as possible, and be specced for 100% lava font uptime. Other attunements just don’t put out as much damage as 100% lava font uptime. You use #2 and #3 off cooldown, #5 when you need the big AOE’s… you definitely don’t use #4 every time it’s off CD, it’s an extra dodge, you use that intelligently.

It’s very important to understand that GW2 is not like other MMO’s where your auto attack/1 skill is just a default skill that does minimal damage only used to save resource or use while other dps skills are on cooldown.

If they increased the crest drop from events it’d make more sense to actually sit through the thing and do the events as opposed to just taxi to breach.

Right now there’s little to no reason to do the events because you get crests from the breach anyway as well as the modrem parts needed to do the achievements.

Increasing the crest rewards may actually make zone hopping more frequent. Players would get the crests they need much faster and would be left farming the parts sooner, thus hopping even sooner.

OP, making parts drop from the Legendary bosses could help, though it may result in the zones becoming less populated faster as the 2 week cycle progresses.

another thing.. escorting dolyaks should have a guaranteed shovel reward

Shovels = Chests = Profitable farming even after you get your bodyparts = zone doesn’t die.

Shovels attached to Dolyak escorts means breach progress happens faster and more consistently.

I play a ranger (fairly recently) and the problem is, if you are not “allowed” to use skill 4 on LB, well, there’s damage you can’t do AT ALL because it’s a skill you take out and then you’re waiting for other stuff on CD. That’s like saying “well warriors your hundred blades is annoying so don’t use it. Just stand there and wait for skills WE LIKE are off cool down. Hey if you get killed in the meantime, we don’t really care as long as we’re happy”.

Kind of ridiculous no? You can ask ANet to change it, but then, 8 months into the trait system FIASCO and that hasn’t changed, so good luck.

Your 1 skill never gotes off cooldown and does more damage if you’re at long range.

Other skills being on cooldown is a REALLY bad excuse for facerolling.

On many weapons the autoattack/1 skill is actually the highest dps.

Don’t use skills just because they’re off cooldown, use skills intelligently.

The only instance that actually is being done w/o stacking is HotW?
So, no. Auto Attack skill is low in group pve mostly.

On many weapon sets the 1 skill is actually the highest dps on the weapon, the other skills are for mobility, utility, and extra effects like conditions.

It’s not every set but say like warrior mainhand axe. Your highest dps comes from just letting the autoattack chain go. The 2 skill is for applying vuln, and the 3 skill is for fleeing opponents, not to be used on cooldown for more damage.

For ranger longbow it’s advantageous to use the 2 skill off cooldown, and the 5 skill off cooldown if there’s mobs you want to aoe, or aoe won’t cause problems (like, don’t use it on Mordrem Husk Copper or Mordrem Thrasher Platinum), but otherwise, let your autoattack go from max range.

Your 3 skill and 4 skill do less damage than your autoattack.

Just because it’s off cooldown, doesn’t mean it’s time to use it.

Hunter’s Shot is for when you need to break aggro off yourself temporarily by going stealth, or, allowing your pet to catch up to a fleeing mob.

Point blank shot is used when you’re solo and need distance between you and the mob, interrupting a channeled skill or long cast like stomp or heal in PVP, or pushing mobs INTO an aoe field or one of your melee friends so they can whack it.

Using them for damage is just, playing badly.

No other way to put it. If you’re using PBS just because your other skills are on cooldown, you’re an awful player.
