How is this even something to complain about? Less than a second to switch him between modes, done. Sohrd.
It’s a janky interface to do while in combat. You basically say “screw having the NPC that’s supposed to help you actually help, I’ll just kill them myself”
There needs to be a special circle of the underworld dedicated to the dev who decided it’d be a SWELL idea to micromanage scruffy between follow and defend modes. It was obnoxious and janky to switch him mid combat with enemies that dropped half your health in a single hit, which good luck dodging while you have the dialogue box opened up blocking half your screen.
Couldn’t we have had it make sense like every other NPC helper throughout the entire game.. where it defends you when you enter combat on its own?
Great point!
Perhaps this was post Guild Wars and GW Beyond? Maybe there were a small group of centaurs and humans that worked together in some remote part of the continent.
THE BOOK SAYS VARESH (meaning it was DURING the Nightfall crisis, not after), WOW, HOW MANY TIMES DO I HAVE TO REPEAT THAT?
You do realize there’s no exact time stamp on this quote, nor any mention of which “Ossa” it was?
. . . creating controversy over lore where none should exist.
Okay it’s not in the screenshot, but prior pages of the book explicitly state it was Varesh.
As it was, during Turai’s time, the centaurs were enslaved by Palawa Joko.
Who said post Nightfall centaurs did not form an alliance with the remaining kournans? Zhed certainly got along well with the player character. He was the coolest horsey!
This was Varesh Ossa, not post nightfall. She enslaved them. There was no alliance.
Those are the words of Ossa, not the developers.
I’d say more likely the Devs didn’t remember the events of Nightfall and didn’t remember that the Centaurs were slaves.
The book page was just there as sort of an explanation for how Scarlet got some of the most Xenophobic groups on Tyria to form alliances.
Using the Centaurs as an example however is a really bad example.
Cause I mean, correct me if I’m wrong, but I seem to remember that the Elonian Centaurs were ENSLAVED by the Kournans, not persuaded to work under an alliance. In fact, Zhed Shadowhoof blackmails you into staging a prison break for his people and killing the slavemasters. They had a staunch resentment of “two legs” and it took that selfless act to get Zhed to trust you.
Is that what we’re calling slavery now? An “Alliance”? I bet a great many people would object to you referring to the Israelites in Egypt as “Allies”, or the African Americans of the pre-civil war South as “Allies” “convinced” to work under the whip.
This is a 2 fold offense. #1 it’s inaccurate to GW1 events, #2, it’s rather discouraging about how you view a portrayal of slavery in a game.
This is an unexpected move but honestly I’m glad they chose to delay because usually when a bug like this happens, ONLY the people affected by it care about it and in fact those who did not get affected by the bug tend to place the blame on those affected by the bug, with the logic of “well it didn’t happen to me, so it’s not Anet’s fault, you did something wrong, maybe you should buy a new computer? These things never happen to me”
Since it affects EVERYONE now, everyone cares that the bug is handled asap and enough people are pressuring anet about it to know yeah, Anet made a bug and are having to work at fixing it, no, it’s not a player’s mistake that caused it.
This in contrast to season 1, where supposedly there are still people who haven’t been rewarded, and people tend to place blame on the players, claiming that “it must be because you transferred worlds, it didn’t happen to me” even if the person did not transfer.
Still have not received chest.
Oh wait, Wildstar headstart has begun.
Wildstar is terrible. Its the fastest I’ve ever uninstalled an MMO.
Okay a week before the tournament ended, I got this achievement on the right saying we’d gotten second place (must have been psychic I guess even though we were in contention for first place), with the reward chest on the achievement (though I didn’t actually get a reward chest).
Now that the tourney is over and people are getting their chests.. I didn’t get mine like many others..
But because the achievement says I had gotten rewarded even without getting the chest, and even got the correct place in the tournament (a week before the tourney was over..) am I just screwed or will whatever fix is being done be able to detect that I did not actually get a chest/tickets?
I’ve been on Tarnished Coast for over a year and did not change worlds.
Mistforged Hero’s weapons can either be purchased directly for tournament tickets or crafted in the Mystic Forge with:
- 1 Hero’s Weapon (100 tournament tickets)
- 1 Gift of Heroes (200 tournament tickets)
- 4 Bottles of Elonian Wine
- 10 Piles of Crystalline Dust
To clarify, we had planned for the cost of Gift of Heroes to be a combination of tickets and badges, but the item will now only cost tickets. Tournament tickets will not expire.
So I’m completely and utterly confused then.
Why would you buy a Gift of Heroes. Ever. Why not just save the tickets and buy a mistforged weapon next tournament?
The Gift of Heroes method of upgrading is a complete ripoff.
Maybe if you made the Gift of Heroes 100 tickets, 1000 badges, and then had to combine with the wine and dust, people might go for it. People could spend some badges and gold to get 2 weapons that way.
But as it is.. you don’t save any tickets, you spend extra money… and get the same result as just holding onto the tickets for the next tourny. It makes 0 sense.
Only thing is… I thought that we were only going to have festival for 2 weeks so I went and knocked out all the achievements this last week… now that I know that i have a month and a half.. I’m left with not much to do that I haven’t already been doing for the past 2 months that we had no new content.. ugh. If I’d known it’d be that long.. I’d have stretched out what we have..
Too bad the pavillion farm isn’t really worth it since it’s basically just tokens You finish your achievements… and then you pretty much just wait.
I don’t like the megaserver at all. It is better than what we had, with empty zones, but I would like a system where users can instead select from a list of districts like:
>Tarnished Coast (your server district)
>District 1 (93% full)
>District 2(83% full)
>District .. 23 (15% full)And also gives us the option of what sort of district we want to automatically be assigned: server, high pop, low pop
Selecting districts on your own would be amazing.
The only one I really experienced buggy behavior with is lightning pull. The others work fine enough, but lightning… any time you’re using it to cross a gap between platforms you are rolling the dice.
Four options:
1. the spell actually works and you land where your targeting indicator says you were going to land
2. You leap out, and suddenly hit an invisible wall in the air and then drop
3. You end up partly overshooting. You fly out what looks an appropriate distance but your character seems to “bounce” when they land and may fall off the other side of the platform, this without any additional movement caused by you. Happens more often if there’s a vertical object on the platform that you might collide with.
4. You aim for the right area but the spell LAUNCHES you way out. The camera even spazzes out trying to follow your path, and you end up flying twice the intended distance.
A friend of mine in the Army got his account compromised and terminated while he was at a training camp without a computer. He said CSR’s refused to help him. Ticket number is 624931.
mtpelion is correct. There are only the two events that were cut this time around, and two of the events from that original chain that were reworked. The two events that were cut were unfortunate, but due to the nature of this release’s development cycle, we just didn’t have the resources to go through and overhaul all of the events.
The level drop on the map from 80 to 15 was definitely done so as to not throw our new players from China into the “deep end of the pool” just a few days after the game opened to all on 5/15.
Oh joy, we’re now second class citizens.
I was at first excited to get the chance to get the gas mask that I missed out on the first time it was out.. but since this meta is so heavily tied to boss rush to the point of being unable to complete unless you do boss rush at least once.. this is a disaster, it’s not like you can get yourself on maps where it’s actually being done either, every time I go into the pavillion it’s a freaking ghost town. Nobody wants to do this crappy event.
This is just garbage. What were the developers thinking?
Then, he should update his ticket asking for someone to look at it again. It took me 4 responses and updates to get my account back. Sometimes, the wording in the responses is disheartening. Sending or re-sending more proof of account ownership and other pertinent information can only help.
Good luck.
Like I said it’s not that they’re not responding, they responded to the ticket but it was to say they refuse to help.
I don’t know if it’s older than 3 days yet.
My wife’s Hotmail account was recently hacked and the people who got into it were able to clean out all of her gold and items in a matter of minutes. If we would have known that Hotmail and many other email services offer 2 step verification to secure your account we would have had it enabled.
We do now.
For those of you who say “This couldn’t happen to me” you are wrong. I was in the process of smugly trolling my wife about getting hacked and she suggested I check my personal email. Hotmail offers the ability to see how many log in attempts were made in the last 30 days and to my shock I had over 40 attempts from China and Vietnam (pic attached)
Take the time to secure your email account now and also DO NOT keep your serial number on the same email account as you have registered to your account. This is like leaving a signed title to your car in the glove box!
That looks like the recent activity page of my hotmail too, all those invalid password attempts from freaking China. the really crazy thing is sometimes there are invalid password attempts from my IP from an unknown email client or from “POP3”. When my account got hacked in February, there weren’t any authorized networks aside from networks in the US that I’ve legitimately logged on from, so the hacker was actually spoofing my IP when logging into my account! During the time I got hacked, I never got a text message stating an attempt to log into my email either, the flurry of Chinese login attempts started AFTER I got my account back.
A buddy of mine serving overseas in the US Army was at a leadership course for a month. During the time he was hacked, and for long enough that his account got permanently banned. He put in a ticket (#624931 he said) but he said the CSR’s REFUSED to help him even though his account was accessed from two IP’s that were not his own. I told him to change his email password and set up 2factor authentication, cause I think it was his email that got compromised. Either way he’s stationed in Korea and his account was getting accessed from Mexico while he was away without a computer. Can we get this soldier some help?
Can this skill’s behavior be fixed, or can waypointing in labyrinthe cliffs be free? Currently spending a few gold because of the wonky behavior of this skill just leaves a bad taste in my mouth. It sometimes way overshoots the targetted area, and sometimes you hit an invisible wall mid air and rubberband backwards and drop like a stone.
Fully agreed, the items need to have the name of the skin we use as before. People can just mouse over the link to see the stats. When someone asks you “hey what’s that weapon?” they are talking about the skin not the base item..
Let’s see why I’m still not interested:
Deluxe Stuff
- Summon Mistfire Wolf Elite Skill – For 30s another stupid AI, waste elite slot? No way!
- Miniature Rytlock – I don’t want it. I have a Skritt!
- Golem Banker – Good, but learned how to live well without it…
- Chalice of Glory – Interesting… not. I hate sPvP.
- Tome of Influence – 1k? Thats 2 banner. Guild makes 1k every 1-2hours…
Heroic Stuff
- Suit of Legacy Armor chose – Okay, this one is interesting for 2 piece which I’m not likely to use ever.
- Mithril Box (18 slot) – 2g woops I have it.
- 10 Experience Boosters – I have a lot of this for nothing
I’m may in special good position with this, but these rewards aren’t really worth it “as it is”.
What do I expect from an account upgrade?2000 Gem | Deluxe stuff:
- SFX/Skin Variations for existing skills such as Rampage as One, or at least not a 30s summon, Necro’s Golem is at least useable.
- Miniature – Select one from the Special table.
- Golem Banker – Okay. What about 10 use of each week? Or at least 1/day.
- Give a selectable perm Finisher OR a Toy
- Suit of Legacy Armor chose: Select a whole set of any OR pick up 3 piece from whatever GW2 ever offered in the GemStore
- Orichalcum, Box – 20 slot at least… 25 slot would be mutch better as real speciality.
- 1 Total Makeover Kit
- 1 Name Change Contract
- Title of “Deluxe Adventurer” for the fun part x)
I could never justify 2000 gems for the digital deluxe, but for 1000 gems I went for it.. because I just did a stint of key farming for 3 tormented weapons, and I had gotten a heroic chest with primeval armor due to an … account thing awhile back.. so I liked to use the level 1 primeval set when key farming (along with a level 0 sword and warhorn) but had to grab it from the bank.. so the golem will be useful for that indefinitely as new Black Lion Chest skins come out.
Realize that the krytan/profane/primeval sets cost 500 gems to get themselves, and this upgrade comes with one.. so really it’s 500 gems for the other items.
Only thing though.. what the heck do we do with the Chalice of Glory now? Will it ever be useful for something?
Wow, so I read that the halloween/wintersday/pirate/cook costumes will not be refundable because they’re not becoming tonics.
The wintersday outfit I specifically bought to mix and match, I hate the full outfit.
Thanks for the bait and switch, Arenanet will never get another dime from me.
They need to fully refund ANY townclothes that people want to return. Including multiple sets. Just like they did with the Flamekissed stuff. They took my money – they don’t get to change the item to something completely different without refunding me.
That’s exactly what they’re doing.
They’re exchanging the steak for a pork chop right as you’re taking a bite, and keeping your money.
Well, at least I can get a refund and hope that ANet will create a costume set similar to what I have now in the future.
You can’t get a refund though. Only the ones being changed into tonics (like hoodies and cargo pants) are being refundable.
While I’m waiting on alternative ways to get precursors.. I’m not that upset that we haven’t gotten it yet.. at least I know it’s being worked on.
Just telling us that we have to deal with this all or nothing system, with no notification that they’re even CONSIDERING reverting to a town clothes panel or finding a way for mix and match to work.. that’s not a good way to manage your customers if you ARE planning on something.. at least alleviate customer worries with what information you have.
You either do that, you offer refunds, or you lose customers.
Bad precedent? You mean like the watchwork pick and the Flame-kissed debacle? I’d say the ‘precedent’ that your gem store goods can be changed or obsoleted without the slightest warning has been WELL established. I didn’t see you at those protest rallies, but they were way bigger than this one, so I might have missed you in the crush
.
I am so with you in principle, but for this system to have gotten to where they’re talking about it out loud and just over to weeks form pushing it live, I’d say they’ve worked out their losses to about the 5th decimal place and here we are.
Its also my conclusion that the reason they aren’t planning returns for outfits (as opposed to tonics) is that over time those may evolve into something more like the functionality we see today – a collection of parts that can be mix-and-matched both with other town clothes and the various weights of armor. Basically I’m hopeful outfits work as a (non-returnable) placeholder until that process is complete.
They refunded people over the flamekissed at least.
They won’t refund people over the wintersday outfit, mad king outfit, bloody prince outfit, executioner outfit, pirate captain outfit, cook outfit, or witch outfit.
They’re changing them on people and sticking them with it whether they like it or not.
(snip)
Well, many people have already explained why this decision was wrong and why must be changed. I really hope this is being taken into consideration, because this explanations has been done (mostly) in a very respectful, clear and clever way by the players.
The only thing I want to remark is that all the reasoning Curtis gave has nothing to do with the removal of the current Town Clothes system. I mean, everything you implement to give us that customization options, is fully compatible with having a Town Clothes attire as is right now. Single item outfits, and tonics to use with armors, and all the transmutation system can be there and still have a tab for wearing the town clothes, not messing with this aspect of the game many players enjoy. Create a tonic AND create the clothes item, and give people both items. Everybody happy.
In fact, this is a very good way to make clothes much more appealing. If you can use them as tonic, as an outfit for combat and as town clothes with mix and match options, the value of this items will be greater and I’m sure many more players would be MUCH more interested in spending money to buy this kind of items. And everybody will be happy. It’s a win-win situation, not that hard to understand and to implement, since all the hard work is already done in some way or another (tonics created, town clothes tab existing…)
Please, read about this, think about it and tell us if at least you are considering to rethink something of this to save us from this frustration.
Yeah I have heard 0. That is ZERO rationale for removing the current town clothes panel. You’re removing a separate paper doll of dyeable clothes that can be customized and mixed and matched, and stores our costume brawl toy.. with a single slot system on the main paper doll, and having to use an inventory space for our costume brawl toy that goes with the costumes and in some cases, replacing wearable items with tonics, that also take inventory space.
How can you do the mental gymnastics necessary to determine that that is a better system?
You know Curtis. All it would take, is to just say “due to player response, we’ve decided to go back and re-add the town clothes paper doll for people who wish to mix and match town clothes but be unable to use them in combat, and to use their toy items. this won’t be in the April 15th patch and we can’t say when it’ll be back in, but it’ll be in sometime soon”.. or at least acknowledgement that you’re considering it.
Telling us “sorry but this is how we’re making it, suck it up” is treating paying customers like garbage. The fact that you won’t even refund for many of these items is just terrible customer service.
If you go to a restaurant, and order a filet mignon steak , the restaurant doesn’t get to come in as you’re eating it, take the plate away, and replace it with a pork chop and say “we’ve changed the menu, sorry for the inconvenience” and then expect to keep your money.

We do understand and sincerely apologize that there are creative combinations of town clothes that will not exist anymore. Many have asked why remove town clothes as a concept. It boils down to we believe better armor skinning and the outfit system is something we can add more options to more often and will produce a better supported RP game for everyone with more variety in the future. In short, a healthier game.
To expand more on what I mean by better support, It helps if you think of town clothes as a 4th weight class of armor. Clothing was meant to offer visual options that break the class roles, however we were never completely happy with the way it was isolated from the rest of the game and still felt largely the same. Many pieces could have easily been mistaken for light or medium armor. In many ways it was more akin to building an alt character because town-clothes and armor were so separated. Additionally, every time we added something to town-clothes, it didn’t really help someone building their light, medium, or heavy look. And there was no way to add combat gear fairly without creating 3 versions on the back end (light, medium, and heavy). As a customization platform and sustainable expansion design it left a lot to be desired.
When we started looking at bringing more of the clothing back into armor with mix and match styles there are some fundamental incompatible things between weight classes. (part of how we set up every armor to allow many dye channels and styles per piece).. There really is no way at this point over six years since we started development to make absolutely everything work together. So we needed something new to continue to grow in the future.
Outfits give us a way to create highly stylized looks that aren’t constrained to armor slots or weight class. In addition to armor skins that are easier and cheaper to collect across characters and the account dye system we do believe the options across a players whole account are much more attractive now. You’ll see more outfits coming out this summer and additions to the game more often usable by your characters. We try not to allow too much ‘hoarder’ design where we just keep stacking more and more options on leaving lots of unsupported things hanging around. Yes, we do have to give up some of our current closet space and clothing to fit the new wardrobe in. Again, apologies for that.
As always we ask you to try out the new system of customization and see what’s available to you. I think many people will be surprised by how many pieces have become armor compatible. We hope the benefits to the outfit system and wardrobe in terms of future support and additions will be clear, and you can look forward to more new outfits coming very soon.
Be prepared to shell out refunds for the outfits you’ve ruined.
Here’s a major, major point that you’re completely throwing away.
People in the RP community especially WANT a separate outfit to wear in town when they’re not in battle.
Making these items useable in combat completely defeats their point.

so from what I can get from /deaths.. I have 1774 total deaths on my account, giving myself a higher than actual cost per death (as not all of those are level 80 characters, and none of my characters has higher than a 2s repair bill per death) of 2s per death.. I’ll save.. 35 gold for a year and a half of content.. no idea how many times I’ve respecced but it’s not often and so I’ve probably spent less than 5 gold on respeccing (that’s a very high estimate).. to give a round figure of 40g in savings.. I think this change is just going to be net loss in money for me. I’d rather have waypoint costs removed than repairs. Waypoints cost way more than repairs.
So.. I guess.. use those instant repair canisters I’ve been hoarding before the 15th..
Don’t forget that the trait unlocks (3.5g over the course of leveling) are also going away. You’ll get to find traits in open world, yay
Yeah that was good but still.. seems like they looked at it as how do we take gold out of the economy and then add a paltry savings to convince people it’s balanced out?
eh there’s still armor damage, it just doesn’t cost money to repair. they’re removing it to justify nerfing loot money again.
Oh.. so don’t use them all up before the 15th.. good call.
so from what I can get from /deaths.. I don’t really understand this change at all; wouldn’t reducing the amount of gold given at the end of a dungeon while increasing the amount received from events do a better job?
Either way, it’s a real shame, I love doing the events while I’m out filling in my map.
everyone does the same job. There’s only 1 role in this game: DPS. Don’t even try to claim otherwise, you’re objectively wrong. Nobody brings a “tank” or a support character, nobody brings a “control” character (to control what? bosses are immune to all those effects 80% of the time), everyone just brings damage, damage, damage, damage, and damage, there’s your 5 slots.
These things do exist, just not in the traditional MMO sense and the only reason some people shun support characters is due to a loud but misinformed minority that thinks anything other than damage isn’t viable.
The reason being, everyone can dodge everything, and everyone has a self heal, there is no need for healer, support (beyond stacking might and fury), or tank.
Every boss is immune to interrupts and control skills almost all of the time unless your group is coordinating a CC skill cycle. It’s easier to just expect everyone to dodge or use a defensive skill. So no use in bringing a control character.
That means damage damage damage damage and damage.
If you’re trying to play another role in current dungeons you’re a waste of a party member, sorry to say, that’s current dungeons and current mechanics.
I don’t die or retrait enough to make up the difference in gold reduction I’m sure. and I absolutely HATE the dungeons in this game because everyone does the same job.
Everyone just zerging and doing the same job is acceptable for open world content, it is NOT acceptable for dungeons or fractals.
So no, just doing dungeons or fractals is not a solution for me until anet realizes that having everyone doing the same thing in dungeons is boring.
So end result.. I’ll just have less money, as if I wasn’t already poor all the time. The Legend is just going to remain out of my reach forever.
why won’t anet answer on map completion/transmutation stones whether they’ll still be awarded or not?
I mean that’s kind of a big deal to make decisions on whether completing maps now or in the future.
…
With that said, you say “not possible”, and that’s just not true. It IS possible, they just don’t want to bother with it, which is incredibly stupid. Skin replacement is one of the easiest things out there in coding, when the skins are already present. It’s essentially like turning a light switch. That’s not entirely true.
Each of the armor weights in the game is constructed differently, which is probably one of the reasons we haven’t seen mixing and matching between different weights. It’s also likely the reason we see so many trenchcoats on medium armor—it’s specifically designed to support coats that go over pants. Light armor divides at the waist, and town clothes followed the same rules. If you read this blog post, you can pick up some hints as to how things were coded and why going back to change things would be more difficult than just find-and-replace:
In Guild Wars 2, weight classes determine the profession distribution and the seam rules for our armor coordination. We realized there were times when we desperately wanted to break those rules, so we developed a solution to do so. For example, town clothes work similar to the light armor system. There is a waist seam that allows mixing and matching to work relatively smoothly between pieces, which gives the player as much creative freedom as possible. But for clothing, it would be a travesty to never have a long trench coat, which has a seam overlap that would follow medium armor seam rules.
To solve this dilemma, we have created sets. Sets are two or more sections of armor fused into one to prevent mixing troubles that allow us to design with far less seam constraints. For example, we could have an outfit with a large trench coat, an inside vest and shirt, and pants. You’ve seen this before in my previous clothing blog post. That outfit is one piece.
I suspect this is why many town clothes pieces, such as the pirate captain’s outfit and Bloody Prince set, operate as one piece. And although I have zero technical expertise in this area, I think it probably follows that in order to make town clothes body pieces wearable in combat at all, it either works as an all-or-nothing system or they have to go back and change all of the armor in the game to follow the same seam rules (which might break several current armor sets, too). That would be a massive undertaking, and in the end it’s probably better that the lesser-used system takes a hit.
I’m not exactly happy with it, and I wish things hadn’t been designed that way in the first place (mostly because I’d like to see mixed armor weights), but establishing outfits as an overlay allows them some freedom to keep releasing costumes for holidays and making some sets of “universal” armor which don’t necessitate revamping the whole of GW2’s armor system. Since outfits use a separate system from transmutes, they can also probably be disallowed in PvP if it becomes a problem.
I can only speculate as to the choice to make some pieces tonics, but that might be the place to lean—respectfully—if we’d rather see them as outfits which can be dyed and used in combat.
Bonefield has a pretty good understanding here of why some mix and match is not easy at all. Some armor and clothing combinations are fundamentally not mixable, (for more than just clipping reasons)
How about the novel idea that you keep the town clothes as they are rather than changing them for the worse?
A few more details on toys. Costume brawl toys are not tonics… Almost all of them will be usable with armor, outfits, tonics and other transforms.
The exception is boxing gloves, which is a brawl toy plus tonic in one.. so it will not combine with other looks, and Sonic Tunneling Tool… which scrubs transforms off you when you go underground.
So you’ll have to go into your inventory and click on the item in order to use it, rather than just having a keybind to switch to your townclothes set? That’s much less convenient than the system we have now. Why change it?
Why not simply convert town clothes into armor skins and keep the costume pieces separate? That way everyone can continue to mix-and-match, and there is no need to introduce the confusion and frustration of town clothes tonics.
Because most of the townsclothes costumes have the pants and shirt parts already added together.
They basically need to leave town clothes alone.
That’s not as big a problem as one would think. There are several existing armor pieces that take up the slots for both the head and shoulders, chest and shoulders, or chest and hands, it would be no different having a chest item covering the chest and legs. And even if they didn’t wish to do it that way, they are two seperate meshes and can be seperated with some work.
EDIT: Wait, I forgot, there already IS one. The Cof Light chest armor takes up both the chest and leg slots.
it doesn’t take up the leg slot, but rather it it’s a robe that overlaps any legs you’re wearing, though some legs may clip.
So when the blog was posted, people responded with, largely, elation. There was confusion about certain wording and such, but with the discussion, people figured it out, and an hour after the blogs were released, mostly everyone was excited, elated, and optimistic about the coming changes.
But 2 hours after the blog was posted, attitudes changed. Many people began pointing out “flaws” and complaints on the new system. People are decidedly less excited. Are they different people? Maybe, but not really. I’ve seen specific posters (no names) go from happiness to fear, out of speculation and paranoia and distrust of the game company that they obviously care about.
Why is this? Why does the community reaction appear to decline almost exponentially? I’m still elated, but I know many others are not. They’re angry. They were excited, but now, no longer.
Is it a mob mentality? Do members of the community see a negative reaction and follow suit quickly? I don’t know. I’m very very interested to get some answers though.
So here it is: if you were happy but now aren’t, what changed? Was it further speculation, introspection, knowledge, what? And if you were first unhappy, but are now happy, what changed?
Thanks for reading!
The negativity comes from the fact that something that many people payed cash for (town clothes) is being changed into tonics where they can’t be dyed the way the person liked them, or into all or nothing outfits where people’s customization can’t be used.
Yeah, the wardrobe system MOSTLY sounds great but the changes to town clothes suck, I spent over $40 on townclothes, that are being changed into tonics.
That’s a bait and switch.
Will dyes still be something you can find gathering herbs?
There should be some more sources of dyes rather than laurels anyway.
Will we now get transmutation charges from completing maps rather than transmutation stones?
I think I could be Ok with the “All or nothing” if we can still get the Boots, Gloves and Head items to play with. I mean as it stands right now, the Chest and Legs of most costume items are one piece already… Unless it is only a chest item.
I think you should just leave the individual items alone. Like the Khaki pants and the different shirts and hoodies.. At the very least, Create “All or nothing” sets with the tops and bottoms in all combinations so that it is possible to get the same look we had before…
MOST people’s mix and matches are done with the outfit of one set with the hat of another or a standalone hat.
GW1 worked that way with costumes.. having the body outfit, and then the mask/hat.
is THAT possible Curtis? Have 2 slots, 1 for torso 1 for head slot for costumes?
The tonic crap needs to just go. You’re going to take away a separate paperdoll I had for these items that took no bag space, and fill my bags with tonics instead.
should have just make “town clothes” into regular armor skins. This whole weird full set/non-combat/no mixing garbage is totally pointless.
They should have just left town clothes alone. I liked having a toggle that I could have bound to a button, to be able to change quickly into a costume for costume brawl or just partying in town.. I liked having a SEPARATE look for town clothes.
I don’t want to fight in a mad king costume.
I have a question I wonder if it’s been answered or not…
if you buy a gem store armor skin set.. do you have to pay for transmutation charges in order to use your new skin set?
That seems like a ripoff to me. Pay 800 gems ($10) for a set and then whatever the cost per transmutaion charges x6 to use what you already paid 800 gems for.
A little added note here, Outfits will still respect the ‘hide helm’ toggle so you can absolutely wear Wintersday or Mad King outfit without the hat or pumpkin.
But we want to dye them! And mix them up with other items!
Behold the beauty of an Asura with a pink wintersday outfit and a pink quaggan hat. This has been possible for a year, and now it suddenly isn’t anymore? I thought this patch was supposed to allow us more flexibility with armor? Seriously, at least tell us why you are doing this. As it is now, I can only assume that you just hate cute Asura in pink Wintersday outfits and pink Quaggan hats. And that’s evil.
Outfits can still be dyed, They will have up to 4 dye channels depending on the outfit.
Sorry about the mix-and-match. Converting things to be armor and combat compatible did come with some trade-offs. For the most part we tried to favor mixing with armor slots and skins (a lot more possible combinations). Hopefully we’ll see more consistently usable customization now that part of it isn’t hidden in town clothes that get turned off every fight. Outfits come as a set and equip as a set with the added benefit of not costing charges or requiring items to apply onto additional characters.
Will Arenanet be offering Refunds for costumes for those of us who do not want to wear a costume as an entire set?
