Here is a thought, remove Repair costs on stomp for WvW, add in an Attackers event system like you guys have for Defense. Spent about an hour tonight fighting 12 – 1 odds trying to take a keep. I realized they are being rewarded DEFENSE CREDIT and making Money / Exp / Karma, while my team of only 5 people, who were fighting this zerg and trying to take the keep was being awarded NOTHING. That seems a bit harsh, where is my ATTACKERS CREDIT?

Submit a bug… should have gotten failed attempt credit. If you didn’t, you either did not really contribute anything and/or were too far away to matter. (Defending siege at max range does not count as attacking)

As it stands WvWvW is getting boring. Would love to see some improvements in the rewards system for wvw, such as a realm point system similar to DAoC. I have over 2000 badges, which don’t amount to anything really.

Anet needs to tie Commander status to badges vs gold. 10000 badges or something for commander status… a new, different icon… change current to something guild only or other.

Even someone with 1000 deaths will have a better handle on Wv3 than someone with deep pockets (however good that is for Anet.. it sucks for community in general).

Took the weekend off. Real life and all that. Some of us have families, girl friends, etc. These things do take precedence occasionally.

SBI still sucks on defense. They bleed their hearts out on taking and upgrading… just wait for the Waypoint to get built and then hold your breath… likely the keep will get flipped without a single interruption before you run out of O2.

Seriously- SBI Commanders and Pugs… Wake up. I hear this constant complaint “We couldn’t hold it forever” That’s not a complaint… it’s an excuse. AN EXCUSE. SBI is awesome on attack… better than fair on upgrades… pretty good on supply defense; but when it comes to holding fully upgraded keeps… they plain suck!

So… SBI took the weekend off. We were losing most of the weekend… we are winning now mid-week… by a little. You can thank SBI negligence that you aren’t losing by a ton. Hell, if SBI took an iota of interest in defending or at least warning that a keep was being attacked… Hell, you’d be losing by 30-50K by now easy.

Yes, thank you SBI for their generosity!

I’m actually just scared being killed by another player.

No one can see your name without putting forth way too much effort. There are no threads with names on the forums of the “worst” players and people talking about who they kill. .

Thank Almighty! I’d be #1 on that list. You can do a command /deaths to see how many times you have died. Not sure if it’s lifetime, toon specific. Me I’m at 500! (I have 5 toons from 17-80)

I was really excited about WvW. Then I tried it. The concept is fun but there needs to be some changes made.

Here is a list of the items that bug me the most about WvW:

Repair costs – This is a Pvp mode. It is a given that you are going to die at some point. Why do I have to pay for repairs?

Sidekicking – Raising a level 2 player up to level 80 but not giving them the armor and traits to go with it is just mean. Why can’t it be like sPvP? That would even things out a little bit.

Running – Why is there only 1 way point in the whole map? Why? It takes so long to get back to the battle that it’s over. My group has moved on and now I am all alone and have to find them FAST or die.

Useless Siege weapons – They cost way to much to purchase and take a lot to built but they do very little damage. A siege weapon should be something the other side fears. They should want to stop you from building one. Instead they ignore it. It’s not worth the time or cost to build one. The players can just knock down the doors without siege weapons anyway in just a few minutes. The siege weapons the centaur use in PvE are more dangerous.

No siege weapon needed – The doors and walls of the keeps must be made of cardboard. It should take longer than 5 minutes for a small group to bust through a door using only their weapons but it doesn’t.

What is hitting me? – I can’t see what is hitting me till after I’m dead. Then they magically appear. All 10 of them. Really it took all of you to kill me? I must be so L33t.

I’m sure there is more but these are the main gripes. I don’t bother to WvW anymore. There’s no reason to. It costs to much and isn’t any fun unless you can run with a zerg. If your in a small group or alone you are meat. Tasty, tasty meat.

Your ignorance is showing hugely.. Wv3 needs some tweaking but your objections are trash. You have obviously not spent one iota of time on a competitive server in Wv3.

1. More waypoints can be built at E, W, Garrison keep in ‘regular’ borderlands… and in EB at Prime Keep and StoneMist… these are considered upgrades and much be purchased with coin and adequate supply.

2. Siege depends on placement and strategy. Seriously… Ballista can hit for 5500+, arrow carts hit 550+ AOE, Treb and Catapults… even more. Trebs hit walls for 10K… how long it takes depends on what upgrades have been done. If wall/door is not re-enfornced… a single ram can get through it quickly… otherwise it takes many rams… uncontested, etc.

3. Kinda agree on Repair costs… but if they didn’t charge something- folks would suicide constantly. There has to be some deterrent.

4. Small groups- I feel for you there. Suggest you do the Puzzle… can be done once a day.. resets EST late ~ 8pm. 4-5 badges and some free siege patterns. Otherwise you are right… you have to be either highly skilled or numerous to flip just about anything. This is intended. If you wanted something you could do alone or with a buddy- there is plenty of NPC in PVE available.

Wv3… is meant to be an extension of GW2.. GUILD wars 2… that is huge groups… zergs… fighting against each other. IF 1v1 is your thing… Wv3 is not the place for you.. Don’t complain… this is supposed to be a TEAM EFFORT. THERE IS NO ‘I’ in team… so move right along, don’t pass ‘GO’ just gtfu out. Thanks!

I use to WvW a lot but when you are in a guild and they want you to defend constatly, instead of earning Karma. Not that I do not mind defending. But if you get steamrolled from trying to defend you are basicly going into WvW to waste coin on repairs constantly, and siege equipment that gets destroyed. It is basicly a faster way to throw coin out the window. Not worth it anymore. Nor the coin wasting.

Defending- believe it or not… but SBI… #1 Sucks at Defense. Burns me up constantly. I’ve been on SBI since Launch. They excel on zerg tactics (who doesn’t) but after they own it and upgrade it… they leave it totally undefended. UGH!)&*((^Y&)(YP(*Y\

Defense sucks because Commanders don’t dole out the duty. One could say good Commanders don’t order their troops to do what they won’t normally do… but I say they are worthless. A Good Commander knows you have to hold what you have as you take on more… SBI sucks at this.

Today at 5pm… I watched SBI lose 2 fully upgraded keeps- one with only a single objection (me) as they broke through the inner gate. The second followed shortly after. SBI, #1, is first on attack, dead last on defense.

I can’t be the only one to see it… and I forsee them losing rank soon… if they don’t ‘wake up’ shortly.

Defense is important- just don’t let your realm walk all over you. Don’t buy upgrades, don’t stand sentry for hours at time. It’s like our economy almost. You have to let them lose, lose, lose for a while before the populace will finally wake up the fact that they are losing because THEY caused it. It’s not pug’s job to gaurd home base, but Commander’s… and the realm as a whole.

Can we now get an inspect option?

It’s been brought up before, and I think its right to bring it up again.

With the coming of the new Ascended gear, that has a real effect on how a player performs in end gae content, Guild Wars 2 needs the ability to inspect other players gear added sorely.

Players will want to know if a player they are adding to thier team is equipped well enough for the run planned through FotM. It will avoid situations where players mislead and waste people’s time. A inspect option will make group forming much smoother and better all around!

With Ascended gear being a requirement for deep runs into the FotM for ELITE rewards, an inspect function is a necessity to ensure you are playing with Correctly equipped teamates.

Here it comes …. that didn’t take long…… “Nope! sorry you can’t be part of my group your gears not good enough!”

ANet if you can’t see the genie you’re letting out of the bottle with this, …I’m … I’m speechless.

they know quire well… Wow took this to the uptieth degree and made millions… why shouldn’t Gw2 make that kind of profit?!

Instead of telling them you don’t like it… convince them via your wallet. Don’t buy gems and/or write the Devs directly or something. Post their email all over…

AS it is… you are piss in the wind… congrats… you accomplished… nothing.

I don’t want an inspect option for the exact reason you list. It involves everything I hated about gear treadmill type games.

Whilst you maybe one of the legitimate players who isn’t a complete tool, for every one of you there will be ten more:
“He still has a rare necklace! Kick him! "

Next they’ll be asking for visible gear-score, and link-able achievements, and we’ll be knee deep in elitist jerks.

That has already started… had a post in Wv3 already… asking for geared folks only to be part of a havok squad.

One way or another- you will be judged by your peers. Seen it already with Commander tags… deep pockets is no substitute for stupidity… those folks have been marked. Won’t be long before you will be as well. You’ll be a question mark… for a long, long time until someone gives you a chance… and if you screw up… you’ll be a has been for life.

Crafting- too predictable or too expensive

Cooking is the only craft so far that I really feel like I’m discovering something; that’s actually quite fun (if I have space enough).

Armor, weapons all follow the same genre- everything is identical… Anet just changed a few words around.

Then there’s Mystic Forge… where to discovery is problematic at best…or kitten expensive. The making of Legendary weapons… 100’s of hours of game play to collect the mats and there’s still a good change of screwing it up. That’s life or death gambling… that isn’t fun.

Is there no middle ground?

Another 6 weeks and I’ll have my Master Craftsman Title… but I’m not excited about taking it further… discovery past 400 is almost too expensive.

Suggest karma vs skill points for discovery purposes… skill points being the top tier… karma for learning the recipe… that kind of thing.

Wv3 Death should mean dead.

When folks die in Wv3- their view of the world should be grayed out. Sure let me see where I am on the map; but I should not be able to continue giving intelligence to my team from the permanently prone position. Nobody should.

As it is- death is a valid form of spying. There’s no skill involved to suicide into a holding only to stay dead constantly relaying information back. Is that really what Anet intended?

I can tell my friends where to find me from the ‘world map’~ I don’t need anything more.

I think I’d rather have the bugs fixed.

I read the previous posts… and I would agree that more 75-80 zones are necessary. Anet did a fabulous job 1-40 giving each race a fairly distinct path but at the end we are all in the same place.

Not only does this get boring; but it puts a tremendous load on Anet’s resources. The only place I have had lag in Orr. Game runs great everywhere else…even Wv3. I have a 20-30MB cable Ethernet service and I still get lag.

Waypoint Cost is too expensive

I understand there should be a cost for waypoints to teleport but it seems an awful lot for how much I earn. Also, if you die not only must you pay repairs but pay to rez also? I think they should make it free to rez at nearest waypoint and reduce the cost of teleporting a little bit

I like the idea. Bill us for any other point, but the waypoint that’s closest should be free.

If you eliminate the possibility of folks hiding inside newly won points- then Mesmer portal wouldn’t be as devastating.

No, it takes skill to hide in a hostile keep. This is not a solution.

It’s not skill- it’s exploiting defects in the keeps… false walls and such.

If it’s skill- then survive the 2-3 minute revealing process.

Gear Grind coming to WvW?

There’s always a gear grind. Any new 80 has to grind for exotics.

The trick for Anet is the keep the gap from growing acute. The games long term viability is not just keeping existing players but bringing in new. If it becomes obvious that only retirees have enough time to grind the hours necessary to bridge the gap- new players will go elsewhere rather than stick with Gw2… Planetside is on the horizon… I’m sure there are others.

Why would I want to spend 200 hours grinding badges to ‘catchup’ when I can spend 20 hours for a relatively brand new game? That’s the pinch point.

Try spending 6 hours a day 7 days a week and get nothing but badges which you dont need except to buy more siege.

It’s not worth doing imo, and really takes way too much time

I always thought MMO meant you played with and against a ton of other people. Somehow it morphed into a few people trying to kill a computer boss. Glad GW2 came about. Just wish WvW was even bigger.

I wish it had more dynamics… I’m missing the original Alteric Valley… back when you summoned the Eagles, the Giant, etc… Wow vanilla Alteric Valley… that’s what is missing in Wv3. That little bit extra.

If you are out for personal reward then WvW isn’t for you. If you want to be a team player then winning or doing well for your server is reward in itself.

That’s why I play it.

If you have expectations of team-work… you might be in the wrong place too… at least for defense. I try my best not to think about how many golds I was spent on upgrades only to see my ‘team’ ignore threats… only to show up to flip a camp after it’s been taken… after the cash, siege, time, and effort it took to build it up was totally wasted.

My suggestion- decide before you go in how much you are willing to spend in coin… and don’t go over. If folks don’t want to do upgrades… it’s because they don’t want to defend it…. which means it’s plain stupid for you to spend any cash at all.

Never upgrade a supply camp more than twice. Not worth it…ever.

Do the jumping puzzle… not the EB one…every other day… certain 4-5 badges per toon… not per account… (I have 5 toons… I spend about an hour…and I have 20-25 badges and each has more siege).

For the rest… it’s if you are having fun. Join a zerg and just rush around… that’s probably what I will do…and have a blast doing it.

Server population means nothing- it’s the queue time for Wv3 that matters…and right now it’s 2-3 hours to get in…anywhere.

Fact- lots of folks love Wv3 on SBI; we don’t have to be full to be ‘all in’.

I fully expect when all I have left is jumping puzzle… I will be stuck going odd hours (like taking a day off work and going at 8-12am M-F or start server hopping to find one that doesn’t have campers (or at least campers that aren’t friendly).

That’s unfortunate… but that’s how it is.

Thinking camping is fine; but it would help if Siege was banned from jumping puzzles… the traps are plenty. Siege is overkill.

You are basically asking for load balancing. You want Anet to use a 1v1v1 solution…so no map can have more than the minimum that any other server has on the playing field.

That will never, never happen.

Transfer elsewhere. You don’t have to settle for dead last unless you just enjoy it.

I rather imagine protecting the jumping puzzle is the ‘wimps’ way out. Seriously- if you are totally dependent on chest loot for siege- you are going to lose matches regularly.

On SBI… been to EB puzzle one time… and haven’t felt the need to go back. Frankly- I hope more BG and JQ camp the puzzle… less defenders for their keeps/towers/camps.

The only thing you are being denied is a enhanced World bonus for yourself and your realm. You really aren’t denying others access to anything a tiny bit of effort can’t accomplish.

Admittedly- I still need to finish it for achievement/Wv3 completion…but otherwise- what a total waste of time and effort. More power to you.

It’s not like there are any points involved for holding/defending the puzzle… just random loot…

Guild Influence for the 'small' guild

Every major city has a Guild Promoter near the Guild NPC… spend a bit of gold and buy influence… 10-10000

You don’t have to have 50 or 500 members to have it all… not if you have modest pockets.

Week or two and you can have your own banner- your own guild bank- claim your own Keeps in Wv3, etc…

It’s great to find a group to run with… but don’t waste your influence while you look…

That’s more badges than I usually earn…even running with a ‘Zerg’.

I get a ton of satisfaction denying folks badges, especially when it’s 3 to 1 or worse… which is common. If I feel like I’m getting rolled… then I think its my duty to make your victory as shallow as possible.

Disappearing Siege Weapons

Wondering if the decay is more evident outside control points? Stuff in keeps seems to last forever… but the same can’t be said of stuff on a Ridge for instance… whether that’s because it decayed or some opp destroyed it… not sure.

Badges of Honor should also be earned through taking stuff too...

Can’t count the number of loot bags I haven’t been able to collect because I was dead and our realm lost the objective so I can’t even run back and collect!

Speed Taking of Camps

At Launch- level 82 meant something; but as there are not only lots more at 80- folks are getting fully geared and more legendary weapons are appearing.

Basically- 82 guards are only slightly challenging and the regular ones are push overs.

Wouldn’t hurt at all to tweak the upgrades to the point even a super geared peep could not take a camp alone and/or increase Camp NPC aggro range… so it doesn’t matter how far apart they are… they all converge on the attacker.

Love to see anyone solo all 5 at once (at 82).

Jumping Puzzle and Siege Equipment

The problem is badges-

1. Siege equipment kills give badges
2. If you aren’t one of the ‘elite’ pvp players- chances are jumping puzzle chests give more badges than you normally get in 4-5 hours of game play.

Seriously… if I could earn 1 badge/hour for my Wv3 time… I’d be fighting the ‘surface’ war and happy about it. As it is- my acquisition is about .1badges/hour

So for me… jumping puzzle when it’s not being camped- is a good deal. I haven’t tried siege in the puzzle… but I think I will now… even more badges for me.

Do I suck at PVP…sure do; but there are likely more like me than not… fact is- losing me to the puzzle is no great loss. Live to love it.

Removal of Orbs was a success IMO

Removing the most visible EXPLOITABLE… item in Wv3 really cleared the air.

Anet would have been wise to rest the scores and started over… removing a major objective from the game has major effects.

We need a score reset to determine who is really serious about winning.

Last match up SBI vs BG vs JQ; this week…same servers. WTF! I’m blown away… only 3 realms competing for #1?

They removed the Orbs…. they need to reset scores to zero… and start over as if this is Launch. Any major change to Wv3 should get the same.

Not saying SBI wouldn’t still be grouped this way… but it would provide more justification going forward.

I’m thinking they should do an IP check first… to settle where a realm belongs, then do a score check.

Now that transfers are every 7 days… it should be simpler to figure where the bulk of a server population is logging from.

Orb were taken out because they could be exploited. Period… End of Story.

Your ideas are worthy of a ready… but only that. Fiction either way.

About the only thing they could do at this point would be increase the defense buff of folks who stayed by an objective. If you opt to defend supply with guild buffs… the potency increases by 10% every 30min or similar, etc.

SBI guild is dependent on pugs do to the grunt work. The so called ‘alliance’ will perk up for the moment… but only for that. Be it a supply camp or keep being trebbed… you have only enough attention for it after it’s been flipped.

Enough. I’m calling out to all other pugs… left them fry. It’s way past time the ‘hard core’ guilds take a serious interest in maintaining supply camps and keeps past the first few minutes of acquisition.

This is also a call to Opps- COME AND GET IT. SBI is pathetic about defense. They have succeeded because they are almost totally dependent on pug defenses. Their organization is superior…for attack; but stick on defense for more than 3 yaks or a keep they ‘own’… worthless. I can recount on both hands and feet how often I have been the only one at a keep or supply camp giving the ‘word’. You think they have it all to themselves… chances better than 50%… nobody is there. Nobody. (If you attack it like a FOOL… they will own you before the wall is down… that won’t change..)

(Most of the grieving about being hacked… no screenshots because nobody was nearby…Nobody!)

Frankly- I’m sick of being ignored… you want to defend it… you want to get the upgrade done fast… balls up buddy! I’m done giving the word. Besides being a suicide; not a single kitten badge for my sacrifice.

Figure it out after you have lost the camp, the tower, the keep. Don’t whine to the map or community when your status drops, that it takes forever to get upgrades (upgraded supply delivers more)… you have only yourself- and your total lack of discipline over your troops to blame. Your so called control is only good for constant booty. Just a kittenload of zerg commanders… the lot of you.

Culling, Turtling, Portal Bombing

Nope. Fort Aspenwood successfully counter this by backcapping simultaneous objectives.

The biggest disadvantage of zerging and stacking is that it concentrates all your people power in one place. They aren’t spread out over the map verifying troop movements and numbers, escorting yaks, pre building siege at keeps/towers, defending keeps/towers from ninja attacks.

The natural counter to running into a gigantic army which you cannot beat, is to not fight that army. You don’t get points for winning this battle, no matter how stacked the odds (pun not intended). You get points for map control and a team that never over commits forces, a team that only uses enough resources to get the job done has better capability to control the map than a single death ball rolling around or standing in one place.

Lets not pretend that the biggest problem isn’t huge WvW population imbalance here.

By that measure- upgrades and siege become meaningless. Just constantly cap and recap… sounds a lot like Rift Conquest…

SBI- its rare to see a zone that’s completely dead; but volume is dying off a bit. Seen more than usual during the Halloween Event. Peak times its busy in 40-80 zones.

I believe- no quotes, but some are just burning out at the 80 mark. The grind for legendary… is just that…legendary. And the mechanics/code abuses with Wv3 are driving many to take a break and do something else. Two weeks ago I never even thought about reading the forums… but it’s almost more fun here than in game.

Hope Anet figures it out faster than Bioware did with swtor… or there could be a repeat.

Think about it folks- it’s F2P… which means everyone can look at the forums… who is going to play the game if all the dirty laundry is hanging out in sight?!

At least I hope that’s why some many threads are arbitrarily locked and/or deleted.

I had 3 PM’s today from Moderators… and I know they haven’t found all my posts yet.

There are other games… probably time to take a break and do something else- spend my money on something else too!

Culling, Turtling, Portal Bombing

You could solve the turtling issue by allowing debuffs to jump to other unlimited players who are within 1m of each other. So even if the initial damage hits 5… the entire stack is affects by the bleeds, cripples, blindness, etc… because they are all within 1m of each other…

This would force groups to spread out and/or half their number would constantly be having to dispell cumulative effects. Possible… but not practical.

@Waeren… that sounds reasonable- find a counter; but the fact is I’m getting tired of having to finding solutions to major game mechanics that are out of balance. Instead I’ll move back to Lotro or something else.

F2P games that don’t generate wealth… don’t do very well.

If you mouse over the blue dot you can see who it is and whether they are in your guild You can even join their squad to hide all the other commanders.

I’m aware of that- however, when there are 8 Commander tags on the map I should not have to waste time trying to see where mine or the one I want to follow is. That’s the whole point of the thread… there are too many blue dots these days.

Things might settle out on 11/1 when transfers become weekly.

I’ve noticed already that there’s a huge drop-off between those competing for ‘tier 1’ and everyone else. There just isn’t enough of what I’d you’d call ‘Hard core’ Wv3 realms for consistent ~roughly even~ match ups.

Odd realm out is going to dominate.

My take is that sPvP is more for individual accomplishment while Wv3 is for Guild accomplishment via teamwork and strategy.

Can’t commit much on badges- except that I’m having a tough time collecting any. It’s rarely who kills the mob; but who plants the stake. So you can run with a zerg never attacking anyone and just be first to plant the flag… and you get badges.

(mmm maybe I should try that- contributing is certainly not working)

I have noticed the Rendering issues and I agree that ‘layering’ could be blamed for some of it. As mentioned, lag, fps, etc could also be factors. I don’t get bent out of shape for these kind of things. There are too many points of failure to blame it all on code abuses.

No, the hacking issues that have folks really upset are related to Orb steals- usually from a Keep that isn’t in breach or even contested; especially when the Event takes 30s or less start to finish.

Like chat options. Let us filter what we see and don’t.
