Unfortunately there aren’t arenas and they probably wouldn’t work reallly well on bigger scale than 2vs2. Just Arathi basin like mode with various maps. If you played arenas on 2k+ ratings you will learn classes really fast in here as they are a lot easier to master. Whatever class you choose be also sure to check the class specific forums for more tips and tricks.
The only thing ranger needs is NORMAL pet AI, not that mess it is now. And all classes are pretty easy to learn if you want to, including ranger. Apparently many people want to be good without trying hard.
Hello there. I’ve got bored with this meta and decided to have some fun in Skyhammer so I’ve changed my build to better suited one for this map. You can see all needed info in the vid.
Hey there. So I’ve decided to share some fun I’m having during playing Skyhammer. I am using 20/20/30/0/0 build(traits and skills shown in the video) with Cleric’s amulet, dwayna runes.
Weapons used – longbow and sword+axe
Pets used – wolf(knockdown, fear) and raven
You can play, but you shouldn’t care about rankings since they tell you nothing useful. If there is still anyone who takes leaderboards seriously he is just hurting himself.
Longbow is superior to shortbow only in one map – Skyhammer. Combined with sword+axe you will be able to handle 1vs2,3 situations in this map. I personally use 20/20/30/0/0 build for skyhammer but standard BM isnt that far away. Other than that I don’t see LB viable in rest of the maps.
There seems to be a divide between people who dislike the map for pvp purpose and those that like the exploits of it. Those that like exploiting the map are also missing the fact at how unbalanced this is as some classes have far better abilities than others to exploit the map. If it is true that I just need to “learn” how to play the map then all of the classes need revamping to even the playing field of “throw your opponent over the edge.” Like someone mentioned though is this super smash bros. or GW2 PVP?
I can beat people in PVP all day just to get thrown over the edge one way or another. It really sucks the fun out of a true battle of player vs player and undermines what true PVP is about. Until there is a fix or even word of a fix I intend to vote with my money in not purchasing gems. I don’t like to as I like many aspects of the game but like I said it really sucks the fun out of the game for me. If it is no longer fun why pay and why play?
‘Exploting the map’ is glory farming not pushing people off the edges. I think developers during creating Skyhammer had in mind that people will use their push/pull abilities to their advantage. You have 6 other maps where you can experience more or less ‘true battle of player vs player’.
How do you people want more modes if you can’t adapt to different playstyle in the same mode.

You seem to be not that experienced. Solo Q maps are randomized, so it’s not possible to “choose maps”- This for your “don’t join the match” statement.
People like you are posting as well for balance changes / improvements, without having any clue of PvP. And since the Dev’s are listening to such people, this will make this game worse, even it’s already broken like hell.
You do see the map that has been chosen before the match starts therefore have the option not to enter the match by logging out.
I posted a topic like this but got deleted….. This map is ridiculous . I killed several times a necromancer in 1 vs 1 only to be pushed by fear’s skill when he was lying on the floor . This map is a joke .
Dont like the map? Dont play it. Problem solved. Some of us enjoy pushing people off the edges.
That is a great idea except for the fact that I am forced to play it in tpvp. I suppose if I couldn’t 1v1 I would like to push people over the edge as well. I personally like to fight in PVP and not exploit a map.

- change quickening zephyr for signet of the wild, sharpening stone for signet of renewal/hunt
- use shortbow as main + sword/torch for evade and burning (start fights with sword/torch to apply burning then swap to SB)
- you can also change sigils for poison on swap
- runes arent bad but Dwayna would probably work better
- transfering 10 points from nature to beastmastery for 3 sec quickness on pet swap might be a good idea. Change pets often.
- use terrain to your advantage
Hi, is there any way to turn off dodge roll on double pressing the movement buttons? I died like milion times because of that and I dont see any options in control menu.
There are still people who take pvp in this game seriously? even whine about “ladder”? I thought every smarter guy already realised pvp here is too casual.
Most people wouldnt have problem with a little bit of technology, having it in the background. But latest content was all about technology and I was just waiting for Neo with Morpheus to show up.
Well, try to do it with a ranger where 50% of your dps is constantly dead.
It’s possible, but yeah…you end up spending a LOT more time on Phase 2 than some other classes do.
Bring whatever vigor you can, endurance regen food, Lightning Reflexes, etc and just try to outlast her. =(
Heh took me about 15 games till i realized i won’t take her down with my BM build. After changing to power/crit build, I managed to kill her after 3 tries, while first try with power build i ran out of time.
With regular BM build you will kill 95% of other builds. Other 5% you will not be able to kill due to low dps, but neither they will be able to kill you. Search forum for details.
With such tanky build it must take ages to kill anything. About the mesemers. You can’t do much if they use build for dummies (phantasmal); they will just run around and hide as much as possible, so your only options here is to run away.
If you are BM ranger ( 0 0 30 10 30) with half of brain, then there isnt any build in the game that could kill you. However there might be builds you will not kill due to lack of damage (other BM rangers, trolling build thieves..), if played by person with some skill.
- watch some pvp videos, practice more. Skill cap in this game isnt really high so you will get there very soon if you try hard.
- build team from friendly/communicating solo queuers for less frustration
- there is nothing you can do about bunkers
- you will be always matched against much higher or much lower MMR team since there arent many people playing tpvp for obvious reasons
- dont take game too seriously
Well, Anet wanted to experiment with stealth so it wouldn’t be like in other games but unfortunately it turned out to be a fail. Even worse there are more mechanics in the game that are not thought through. But what else can you expect from a free game.. Keep in mind that WvW isn not ‘real’ pvp. There are low levels playing, PVE players and players with unequal eq.
Rangers arent considered strong unless the player playing ranger is good at it. And still he has to use the one of two viable builds. But as someone else already mentioned, if that same player was playing mesmer he would be a lot stronger with mesmer. I guess many of rangers choose pets just because of their special abilities since pets became even more unreliable with the last patch.
imho it’s same problem like with hunters in WOW. People are used to play faceroll classes then come to class which require longer learning and they give up after a while. You didn’t see many very good hunters in WOW, but when u met one you evaded him for the rest of the match.
Sure rangers here have some minor problems, but all other classes do.
