just nerf heal sig to silence the whiners

The strange thing is that the only class that should always, and I mean without exception always kill any warrior in 1v1 is the mesmer. Staff just completely wrecks warriors. Maybe, just maybe a sword/shield+longbow warrior can come out on top, but that’s a big maybe.

except a warrior can just run away and the mesmer can’t catch him. So a mesmer will never kill the warrior if he just bails in time.

Warriors need a buff, not a nerf!

Seriously after reading all these nerf threads you people have it wrong.. I was fighting a thief in spvp with my heal signet on (600 reg) and we were ranging from far , now u c I have 30 in defence but this little grunt could still damage me , max defence shud mean 0 dmg.

I mean he barely got me down 2k go before I hammer stunned him into next year but I feel defence trait is not strong enuf.
Plz implement portal and stealth on warrior next patch

Wait.. so you beat the snot out of someone, and you want a buff?

WvW roaming - V.8 Celestial vs. Dire

Good to watch as always.

As celestial you might want to try this:

http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fQAQNBHhZakRLevdzYjfTBMVobIF9WbMjjXm+Q5A

had some good results with it, though I run it with wells.

Axe is always an issue for me in WvW. That 600 range is just too close to the action and with our limited leap options, your ability to disengage is 300 units too close for me.

I find that scepter 3 is compareable to axe 2, in that it does less damage, but also doesn’t require a long channel. Both generate life force. And personally I prefer scepter 2 over axe 3 again because of positioning. Axe 1 vs Scepter 1 isn’t even a discussion.

I’ve been running a hybrid build these days, with a/f and staff, and I’ve been growing more and more tired of the axe.. It’s great.. when it works, but if you’ve been detargeted fx vs a thief and don’t notice, you might waste your axe2. Happens a lot to me, fx if I am currently channeling a skill and queue up axe2, and they happen to stealth right before the axe2 is fired off, it’s wasted and that’s buh…
I am also beginning to wonder if scepter might be better than axe, due to what you’re saying, scepter 3 hits hard and scepter 2 is better imo than axe 3. And ofc scepter1 vs axe1 is just a no-brainer.

@ Rennoko:

Well made vid, as usual. Thanks for that. But i do feel your celestial setup is not cutting edge. I use Celestial, Berserker, Knights and Cavalier with dagger/focus and staff and it absolutely rocks. The direct dmg output is so much higher than with scepter and the control coming from dagger 3 is key to build my play around it.

Basically I am trading 200 condition damage of yours for direct damage close to full berserker power necro and still have 500 condition damage plus 2700 armor.

@ Sororita:

Your playstyle seems to be very close to mine judging by weaponset but I feel your traits suit MM much more than focus on lifesteal without minions. Additionally your stats seem kinda low, despite you having consumables applied.

I have about 3k attack power, 40% critchance, 113% critdamage, 500 condidmg and still 2700 armor. I feel compensating the traited lifesteal with toughness is the better trade off, since the offensive potential is so much higher statwise (and offense is the the best defense).

No offense, just my input and thoughts.

Best regards

I’d love to see your complete build as well

30/25/0/0/15 spvp. Semi hybrid. The damage is obnoxious. I’m starting to like it more than 30/20/0/0/20. I think I have been heavily underestimating spiteful spirit.

http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fQAQNAW7YjMad6xbGb07JEoH7i0AixMOmgh+Q5A-TsAgyCuI+S9l7LzXyisFNEZJyeBA

The crit rate means you get ~25% less dhuumfire procs than a rabid amulet (average of 13.8 seconds between procs instead of 11.2 seconds). Also means earth sigils aren’t really worth using. I’ve gone with battle, you could go for geomancy if you preferred.

3k power makes up for those losses, and then some.

Is spiteful spirit really worth it? Isn’t it just 2xx dmg per hit?

Beware of Condition Mesmer

Dietzen.6127

What Bhawb said, (insofar as I am reading it correctly:) ) mesmers are very much vulnerable to conditions. Having played one extensively, there are so few options for a mesmer to cleanse conditions. Few as in, they can only clear a few condis at a time, and they can’t fully rid themselves of condis.

- Null field (40 sec CD)
- Mantra of resolve (2×2 condis cleared, 20 sec CD)
- Arcane thievery (transfer 3 condis, steal 3 boons, 45 sec CD)
- Phantasmal disenchanter (20 sec CD, unreliable though as you need to be hit by it’s bolt to have it clear condis from you)
and that’s it, unless I’m missing one.

But mesmers only carry one of em, due to needing both Decoy and blink (usually).
I carry mantra of resolve due to having 2x insta cast condi clears, which take off 2 condis each.
And as Bhawb said, mesmers can stack up some nice condis on you, but to have em all transfered back just means death for em, combine that with fear and it just becomes too much and they go down quickly

Oh and here’s a nice tip for ya’ll, well of power is awesome! “Yeah we know!!!”, but did you know you don’t have to stand in the well for it to tick off condis from you? :P Ally’s probably need to stand in the well for it to work, but you don’t!

You are correct, I should not have said “cloaking”. However, Deceptive Evasion DOES cause you to lose target on the dodging Mesmer, which means significant loss of attacking uptime outside of AoE’s. It takes valuable time to re-target the Mesmer, and tab-targeting doesn’t help (not that I would want it to, I do have a Mesmer myself, albeit only level 29).

No it doesn’t. It does not detarget, not for me anyways.

Are you the Mesmer? I always lose my target on the mesmer whenever Deceptive Evasion triggers.

Fighting as and against, I don’t loose target on deceptive evasion. Not as far as I can remember.
And regarding fighting the hybrid mesmer, there’s one simple thing to do, if you do it the mesmer will die. Fast. Pump him full of condis. Easy and simple. As long as your cast has begun, their stealth won’t save em. They will have ONE condi clear max. I also play a very deadly hybrid mesmer and it really is deadly. But the thing I fear most, is a necro due to the amount of condis they can pump out and fear.

I’ve found a nice thing, I start with focus5 and then focus4, immediately after I go into DS for damage, the cool thing about this is, while in DS you still get the LF genereation from the focus 4 bounces, so the first couple of seconds you don’t loose all that much LF

Dietzen.6127

Why the build is like this
30/10/0/0/30 – It looks like a standard DS zerker shooter build, but it is not.
I operate within the principle that whatever I do, has to hurt. This means, both weapon sets has to hurt, DS1-5 has to hurt. But the build also has to be defensive enough to survive a thief and necro. Yes I said necro, who doesn’t fear a necro’s condi spammage?

Drawing upon my mesmer hybrid, the spec landed like this, due to wanting power/condi duration (spite 30, as well as dumbfire), condition dmg and precision (Curses) and crit dmg (Soul Reaping).

30 Spite gives me:
Longer focus range and shorter CD’s. Focus #5 is great and focus #4 is awesome dmg followed by axe #2.
Axe Training for obvious reasons. And dumbfire for added condition dmg.

10 Curses gives me:
20% bleed duration, which should land my crit bleeds at 3 seconds, from the ingame tooltip. Without it, it would be 2 1/3 I think it was. (at least it wasn’t a full 3 seconds)

And 30 Soul Reaping gives me:
15% reduced CD’s on DS skills, which is just pure awesome, because I use DS both as direct dmg DS1, and to catch people DS2, aoe dmg DS4 and ofc condi dmg DS5. Shorter CD’s just means, more usage.
DS CD reduced by 30%, means recharge (from in game tooltip) lands at 6 seconds. I don’t know if the tooltip is 6.5 seconds, but it says 6 ingame.
And ofc 50% increased crit chance in DS.

I also chose my weapons based on my hybrid mesmer, a weapon set that gives direct dmg burst and a condition set. Axe/focus gives the burst, with focus #4 followed by axe #2 dealing upwards of 5k dmg if everything hits (remember sigil of fire here). For condition, obvious choice is scepter/dagger, with spammable bleeds and poison, as well as a low recharge cripple and LF generation ability. Off dagger for condi transfer and ae weakness and bleeds.

Generally I will start off by charging focus5 from far away due to the long cast time, then go into DS (still getting used to the necro again, so sometimes I forget, and keep in axe/f) and start to pound with DS1 and DS2, without loosing too much LF, I will exit DS and start the burst rotation with axe/focus. Focus4 —> axe2. After the burst, switch to scepter/dagger for condition pressure.
With 61% crit dmg and 70% condition duration (90% for bleeds), there is a significant overall damage pressure.

The build works really well, because, if if you miss some of the more potent moves and abilities, you still do collateral dmg. I might miss a great deal of my axe2, but by then I’ve put up fire and a couple of bleeds, and by the time I switch to s/d they tick for more and I’ve started to apply more bleeds. Vice versa, if lots of my bleeds miss, I still do a lot of DD.

Stats (first number is for a/f, second is for s/d)
Attack: 2900 / 2700
Crit : 42 / 37%
Crit dmg: 61% / 51%
Armor: 2250 / 2378
Health: Around 20k
Condi duration: 70% (90% for bleeds)
30% extra LF

Pros
Good DD and condition dmg, not as good as pure forms, but very good nonetheless.
Takes advantage of every skill as it’s disposal.
Good condition clear in dagger4, well of power and consume conditions.
Good survivability in ok toughness and vitality and amount of DS.

Cons
A pure condi necro is lethal, and I fear em, also do on my mesmer.
Stun lock warriors are also a pain, but manageable.
Thieves as always, I’m not particularly good against em, but I’ve downed a lot with this build lately, more than they have being downing me.
Not as much DD or as much condi dmg, as pure specs.

A note
Although I do mention that you can switch things out, I do recommend going with this setup, because it is just awesome, only alternating the few dire pieces for rabid.

A last note
Elite skill, I use snow leopard form, because as a solo roamer getting caught by more enemies than you can down, you sometimes need a get out of jail free card. If by chance you’re not a norn, go with whichever elite suits you best

Dietzen.6127

Good news everybody

I want to present the build I’ve been running on my necro lately. I have no idea if it is currently being used by others, or if it is a niche. The trait composition is certainly used, but the armor and all-round build, may not. It is really strong in some aspects, but does have a few cons, which I will go through later.

Note: This is a build, I’ve only used in solo roaming. So I don’t know if it’ll work outside of that composition

Firstly I’d want to take a sec to explain, why exactly I’ve been using this build. If you want, you can skip ahead to the build.

Introduction/Story
I’ve been playing my mesmer for the past while, and ofc been going through many different builds. While roaming solo in WvW (which is the only thing I do), I got thrashed by another mesmer and I asked for his build, and interestingly he was playing a hybrid with similar stats to my own, even though I was solely condition focused. After that I tried out the build and to be honest, it was awesome. The best of both worlds! I found that I no longer absolutely need to land that particular burst, or that one, and likewise I found I didn’t need to land any particular condition to beat people.
But, I began to yearn for my female necro face-tank, the whole playstyle just is awesome, with DS n all. However I was quickly reminded why I rerolled mesmer. You can’t get out of sticky situations and it isn’t as explosive as the mesmer hybrid I’ve been rolling. Until, I adapted my necro build, to the same principle as my mesmer.

To go with as much rabid gear as needed, to get a lot of condi dmg. And to have good power, crit % and crit dmg, while retaining a substantial amount of toughness. And this is the build I’ve settled at, and it has worked quite well.

The Build
So here’s the build Dietzen’s Necro Roamer.

Whoah hey buddy, what’s this!? And general things you can change
Armor and Jewelry
I’ve got a couple of pieces of dire equip to get some vitality. You can change this rabid if you like (3 pieces in my build, so that would be in the area of 100-120 precision extra).

If however you’d like more vitality, feel free to change rabid to dire.
In essence, you can switch the gear to suit your distinct level of need. I’m considering to go full rabid, at the cost of some health. It isn’t completely set in stone.

Runes and Sigils
I use runes of the ogre for the power, crit dmg, extra dmg % and the rock dog (which is awesome), so all around good rune to boost the dmg you do. Feel free to go with whatever you love the most.

Weapons
A/F (Berserker) – Fire/5% crit chance, fire is good for the burst and crit % means more procs of dumbfire, bleeds and the fire proc.
S/D (Rabid) – Earth/Condi stack, earth for more pressure and condi stacks for condi dmg ofc I go with earth due to having fire on axe, as I don’t like to have on-swap sigils mixed with on-crit sigils.
Again, if you feel like having geomancy/hydromancy or whichever sigil, it could work. However these do give a very good pressure and burst.

I can beat 1v1 or 1v2 just fine, however if I see a large group approaching and I’m fighting someone, I know I’m dead. They know I’m dead, and true enough I always end up dead.
It becomes irritating to die constantly, with no means of escape. No real way, mind you.
A mesmer on the other hand, phew, I can get out of the most sticky situations and I can deal a crapload of dmg.

ah yeah, sorry for drifting off hehe
Well to be honest with my current build I actually do extremely well against every class. The only classes I fear are necros and thieves, because necros can put out so many damaging conditions that it sometimes become too much for me to handle. And thieves, well because they are annoying as heck and can be difficult to lock down. For the most part I manage to keep them off, I don’t kill them and they don’t kill me. But the really good ones, who stealth/bs/stealth/bs can kill me eventually, if I mess up some of my escapes.

I’ll make it easy on you guys, I would love to hear

“Enderz, youre crazy, this build is incredible and will only get better with gear.”

“Enderz, you just need more practice.”

And to be fair the above are true.

But, what I want to know, will I always struggle against HIGH DPS builds even with the ‘more practice and better gear’.

Enderz, you just need more practice.

The blackwater build, when played appropriately well (I suppose counting in the tweaks I make when I run it) will never lose in a 1v1 situation to any class other than an ultra high dps phantasm mesmer. That is the single build that can beat it.

As an aside, you generally want to completely disregard anything menace says until it’s independently verified, just a good rule of thumb.

I beat blackwater builds constantly with my 10/30/30 hybrid build, I push out more dmg with everything I got, compared to their conditions. However, I don’t think they were of Natsu’s caliber, but I’ve met some quite good players that I didn’t have any problem beating.
I actually switched to a 10/30/30 hybrid after running the blackwater build, and getting completely smashed by aforementioned hybrid maybe it just suits my playstyle, or maybe it’s better, I can’t say, but it fits my playstyle perfectly.

That’s complete bullkitten tbh, if I duel with my necro I’ll be darned sure it’s with full LF. It’s part of the class, it’s what a necro has to negate serious dmg and so on. Unlike a warrior who starts at 0 adrenaline, he can quickly build up his bar by attacking. A necro cannot (and before you say a necro can, no he can’t, only some spells grant LF and it takes a very long time to build up LF outside of killing lots of mobs.). So it is in no way unfair, for a necromancer to start off in 100% LF.

Winds of Chaos and Mirror Blade are big culprits because of their distance and speed of the projectiles(i know WoC is not technically a projectile), even going stealth after the initial hit, if the “projectiles” hit again onto a enemy of a bounce the revealed debuff will proc.

No this has not happened to me on Sword/x(i dont run pistol, rather not derail by stating why), it could be possible that there was still a WoC bolt flying whilst you change to sword/x.

Suggestions, be aware of your projectiles and abilities used before going stealth,

Aye, as I also mentioned in the OP, I don’t believe it to be a bug, and I can hear that my suspicion has been confirmed that it must be staff bounces, or maybe pistol bounces… It may be best to just stop attacking for a few seconds before going invis.
And this is even though I don’t have the extra bounce trait and I am still being revealed a lot, kitten those winds of chaos orbs move slow!

Tbh, I run a build that focuses on lots n lots of conditions, on-death traits etc etc bla bla you know it. But I also shatter sometimes, if I want to have that added momentum of damage. Ofc this means that in that particular instance my on-death traits are “wasted”, but it doesn’t negate having them.

tldr: just because you utilize on-death traits, doesn’t mean you can’t shatter from time to time Or have traits that boost shattering imo at least!

Decoy/MI --> Revealed

Hey folks

I’ve been noticing a lot lately that when I use decoy or mass invisibility, I will immediately get the revealed debuff. Anyone also experiencing this, and/or might be able to tell me why?
I’m sure it’s not a bug, perhaps I’ve just fired a winds of chaos shot, pressed decoy, only to be revealed once the bolt hit? But I’ve also see it happen when running with s/p and it’s quite frustrating, since prismatic understanding kinda needs me to be in stealth to gain any boons

So, any ideas?

I’ve been starting to wonder if a mix of condi and dd is better than pure condi. Met a great and friendly mesmer in wvw who had a hybrid build and he out damaged me immensely. The weirdest thing was, he had very similar stats as my build! He had less condi dmg ofc but he had nearly as much toughness, way more power crit chance and crit dmg. So he hurt me both when hitting me AND his condis were hitting hard, ouch hehe

Great idea, I’ll join in
In game name: Cannoness Raithen
Server: Blackgate US
Gametype: wvw
What do I do in wvw?: Solo roam, I only ever solo roam and if I do say so myself I’m quite good the two builds I’ve posted in the forum were some I came up with to be able to be survivable in wvw but still do enough dmg to kill people.
Normally I’m pretty confident when I’m going up against 1v1 in wvw but theres a handful of mesmers in the t1 group who are insanely good and beat me regularly. And ofc once in a while a good thief. Else I pretty much win most of my fights, I’d say 75-80%
Hope I didn’t sound kitteny hehe

I had the discussion with a guild mate… he said he had a hybrid mesmer, I asked ahh okay what about x, y, and z stats? It turned out, he thought his build was hybrid, because he had 35% crit dmg….
So yeah, we all really must have different ideas of what is a hybrid spec and what isn’t.
In my mind, if I see the word hybrid, I think of only one thing, direct damage AND condition damage. I see the point in fusing DD and support etc. but for me it’s dd plus condi dmg.

How to best cause confusion?

Celerity and duelist should stack though, from what I’ve seen the CD does go down to about 12 or w/e it is. It’s a bug in the skill tooltip CD. If you have the two none of the phantasm tooltips show double reduced CD’s. But you should indeed see the reduced CD when casting.

Yeah, you are right, I just checked it and it’s only the tooltip!

Thanks for this, I actually thought the tooltip was right

No prob, I thought so too, until I had cast the duelist and saw the CD, I was like whoah! They both DO stack :P

Agree with the confusion duration needing to adhere to the casters condi duration.

This used to be broken but was fixed a few months ago. Any conditions your illusions inflict (including the iMage) should inherit the mesmers’s condition duration (unless that’s broke again and I wasn’t aware).

Really? Does this include the +33% confusion trait? From what I could find of information, some things counted and others didn’t, and the +33% were one of those things. But the info might very well be old.
