So, show it! It goes along with the video, so that we can clearly see what you’re using and so on.
Concerning the rather negative posts, well, we know sPvP and tPvP are different from WvW, get over it. I also solo roam in wvw looking for 1v1 fights and I enjoy that much more than running in a fixed area that shuts down every 15 mins. Difference in opinions does not mean something is not right!

Greater Marks

I won’t use staff without this trait. The marks are so excruciatingly small that it’s too easy for pvp’ers to simply run around the mark.
With the trait however, it becomes godlike, you can hit a lot of players (ca kitten till 5) with ease! You can protect yourself against thieves and so on.
Not to mention it becomes a lot more easy to actually hit marks with this trait, and in addition you gain more range because of it. You can place the mark at 1200 range and because it is cast at the center of the circle, some of it goes beyond the 1200 range. With greater marks, you will have a greater reach as well, as the improved mark diameter extends farther away from the center.

It’s nice to be able to get chaos armor, however I’m not quite sure on how to get the thing to work.
I’ve been able to get this combo off, when I stand directly on top of the wall, and blast putrid mark on top as well.
So my question is, are there other ways of getting this combo off, or is it only possible when standing on top of the wall and comboing putrid mark on top of it?

Unfortunately the range increase only works on focus 5, afaik. Although the tooltip says otherwise for #4 it does in fact not increase it to 1200. (This might be the other way around, I am not in front of the computer atm.)

This is what I was referring to, I wasn’t trying to insult warriors or anything. As a Necromancer using a Dagger in PvP can you honestly say that this is 100% accurate?

Yes. I bunker near point for my tPvP team, and it is very rare that I will die. The only times I do (barring just playing bad against a thief) are when they send 2 glass cannons that can nuke me down in a second, or 3+ players.

Just because other players aren’t afraid of your dagger hitting for 2k DPS in a bunker build doesn’t mean they shouldn’t be afraid. Especially if I have minions to complement it, you will literally have a few players come to your point, get wrecked, and then you’ll see them later in the game run close to your point, look at you, and run on back to mid instead.

What’s your MM build? I’ve been curious for days about it

I do a lot of solo roaming :P. Minions and Condition spamming seems to work better for that. Other than that, interesting idea on taking scepter/dagger to setup instead of D/WH or Staff.

Hmm, I’ve been looking at the minions build, what is the current cookie/cutter build, or is there a best one atm? Or at least, is there must have traits with X trait points left over? Have been trying to find a minion build, but the one’s I’ve found have been kinda dismissed by the community.
Would like to see the potential, before I deem my own build better (or worse) hehe

Hmm that I’m really unsure of. Tbh the only reasonable thing to assume would be to add all percentage modifiers together, ie. 20% + 40% + 30% + 50% = 140%
Whether or not it can actually go beyond 100%, I cannot answer.

Reaper’s precision does not give 1% life steal on crit. It has a 33% chance on crit, of adding 1% LF.

It increases the given fear by 50%. If the fear was previously 1 second, it will now be 1 1/2 seconds. If it was 2 seconds before, it will now be 3 seconds.
It adds 50% of the base duration.

I wanted to share the build I’ve been running with the last couple of weeks, and to a great extent, successfully.

What this is not
This is not the end all be all build of eternal power. It is, however, my own personal preference for the time being.
I was looking for a power build that I liked. For a good while, I was running staff – dagger/dagger and it worked pretty well, but if I got immobilized that was just bad, since dagger only has 130 range.

What it has evolved into
I found there were certain aspects of my previous build that I didn’t like. With the recent patch, I wanted to try the axe which works well with the focus, and the 2ndary weapons, I decided to keep the dagger, loosing the staff. I can’t have the staff without greater marks, so opting out of the staff gave me 10 more trait points to spend.
Upon further consideration, I gave up on the dagger and took scepter instead, resulting in:
Axe/Focus & Scepter/Dagger.
Now, I know what you’re thinking, scepter in a power build!?! But, it hits fairly hard, it gives bleeds and poison, but the best part is, a powerful cripple+bleed on just a 10 sec CD. And feast of corruption has hit for 3700, so it’s not to be discounted, paired with a dagger offhand, you have more bleed, weakness and blind = nice!

With a mix of knight’s and PTV gear, there’s a reasonable amount of armor and HP.
I also take ruby orbs in all my trinkets, netting 18% crit dmg.

The build
30 in spite, more dmg below 50% hp, crazy! 7k axe 2 are always welcome. Retal on Ds and the master trait is debatable, I either take more dmg on down, auto spinal shivers or might on life blast.
25 in curses – 2% more dmg per condition, which is also part of the reason for taking scepter, you spit out different conditions like a walking virulent plague cloud, and this just means more dmg. Chill on blind is awesome, and auto enfeebling blood on ds both gives dmg and defense with weakness.
15 in soul reaping, spectral armor at 50% hp – insane! Pierce and vulnerability on life blast is good as well.

- If it has escaped noticing, this build actually pumps out vulnerability like a crazy mad man!

Utilities
Well of Darkness blinds (and chills due to trait), so it’s a good defensive mechanism that keeps players in check. I also use WoS to pump out some dmg, however this spot can effectively be traded in for anything you’d like better.
My third spot goes to locust, since running faster is nice. If you’re fast enough, you can switch it out for spectral walk before a battle, which I’d recommend doing.

Elite
I switch this around quite often, between lich, plague and snow leopard form. If I see a zerg I’ll take the snow leopard to get away. Else I’ll primarily use lich. This bad boy has downed me many a players in a few autocasts, due to the insane dmg it pumps out.
I’d go with whatever you feel like tbh, anything works. Just know, lich is a dmg beast.

Slows/Cripples
Axe 3, Focus 5, Scepter 2, (Dagger 4 – trait chill on blind), DS 2, Well of Darkness.

Consumables
I always use sharpening stones, however I haven’t really found which food I like best. There’s 100 power/70 prec, there’s omnomberry pie (lifesteal), there’s also a new favorite might on dodge and 40% increased recharge on endurance. But I haven’t decided yet, I think I’m going with power/precision for now, just to increase dmg.

Pros
Awesome dmg
Good survivability
A lot of snares
Bleeds (though low ticking dmg)

Cons
It can be difficult against thieves, since lower HP pool means you have to dodge well.
Against boons it is also difficult. Taking corrupt boon instead of WoS helps here.
Little regen and no HP drain.

Ending note
This is quickly becoming a favorite build of mine, and I wanted to share it with you guys, since a lot of my inspiration, since beginning GW2, has come from builds posted on this website. Feel free to try out my build, and if you have any suggestions feel free to let me know. However, I am not switching out my weapons for the time being, so no reason to suggest this particular thing; other than this, shoot away

As a last note, I feel I have to point out that the only thing I ever do while online, is solo-roaming in WvW. And yes it can work, even for a necro! This is also why the build has evolved into this particular one.

Yeah I’m trying it out, to see if it works. Seemingly I don’t need the staff as much as I’d have thought. And it is 10 trait points I can use elsewhere, cause I simply can’t take staff without greater marks :-)

Just wanted to reply to the folks saying scepter doesn’t go well with power, which is just wrong Dagger range is so short that if you get immobilized you can’t do anything. I love the damage from it, and the lifesteal ofc also the immobilize. However I like the range of 900 scepter, which actually hits quite hard in a power build. Not to forget you get a long duration cripple (since 30 pts in spite), and a bite that hits for 2200 on crits.
So that’s my reasoning for trying out the scepter, as I did have dagger before but just got tired of not being able to be in range.

Axe is still better – I can hit 2200 on my auto well maybe only 1800, pluse Axe has seen numbers significantly higher with food. I hit 6900 on a high toughness guy the other day.

I got destroyed by a friend of mine, an engy that had a weird spec.
He runs a lot of condis, one of which is when he gives me 5 stacks of confusion.. when this happens I always went down!
Now I’ve got sigil of generosity, and dagger off-hand, and tried to pick plague signet as well, but I just couldn’t beat him.

I’m a power necro 30/20/0/0/20

and I couldn’t even get close.
Any suggestions on how to deal with conditions, without gimping myself too much?
Also I run axe/focus and scepter/dagger

I’ve got a power build, but I’ve got several ways of removing my conditions AND transferring them to boot.
Staff 4, dagger 4 (yes I run d/d and yes it is awesome, recognize or be stupid), sigil of generosity on dagger offhand transfers a stack every 10 seconds. And if it becomes too much, well consume for more heal and start again.
Seriously, there is absolutely nothing wrong with necromancer condition removal!

+1 to Nemesis (bro, i still cant get over that 9k hit, and the channel didnt even fully crit). For pvp, you want to use either a pure power build, not a power/condition hybrid. Or you can use a minion build that includes heavy survivability traits.
I hope to do a power build video different from Nemesis version. It gives 90 crit dmg, 70 crit chance and alot of out going instant damage. You can wait for the vid if i ever get around to it, or look it up the rough drafts here. User name is Reagus.

Necromancer Survivability?

Survivability, as has been mentioned by many here is quite good. You can soak up a good deal of dmg, you can keep regen on you with staff 2. You have DS, and while some may not like it, I use it both defensively and offensively since I do a good deal of crit dmg in DS.
I won’t go into anything except survivability, so in short, yes it is good, untill your CD’s are starting to go on cooldown, then you will start to see your HP drop and it is hard to recover again. If you, like me, carry a dagger it helps regain HP with the drain life, and along with staff 2 it is actually manageable.
If you are in a situation where you know you cannot survive, then yes, you are going to die, simple as that. As has been pointed out by many, you can’t run with any skill. You can try to juke with spectral run (w/e it’s called) but you prolly will be caught.
This is the exact reason why I’m carrying Norn – Become the Snow Leopard, stealth and a 3000 yd charge and restealth, it is the best and only option for me to save my hide when the kitten hits the fan, and believe me it has saved me more times than any of the other necro abilities so far. (I do switch it out for lich sometimes to do some nasty dmg )

You’re comparing a dedicated healing skill to a collection of two or three traits, one of which is a Master Minor trait. (Nourishment buffs aren’t really relevant from a class comparison perspective.)

A thief with signet still heals for just as much if not more than a necro with both lifesteal on hit and crit and 50% improvement. That’s 2 traits and a minor trait that a thief can cover with just his heal signet. Ayraswag has a lifesteal vid up on youtube that shows the power of lifesteal of thieves. Seems silly that a thief can lifesteal more efficiently than a necromancer can.

Thieves are a little squishier then necromancers and there healing actually got looked at afterwords, whereas necromancers were mostly just nerfed and left alone.

The video I was referring to has been uploaded within the last 3 days if I’m not mistaken, so unless the healing has been looked at really recently, they still heal a lot better than we do.

Life Stealing needs to be better.

Can we wipe this thread clear and start new since you can now see more stats like condition damage that haven’t been visable before?

You could always see every stat (excluding life force addition), if you hovered the different stats a pop up menu would show relevant stats. Condi dmg was under attack power if I recall correctly, and crit dmg was under precision.

I switch utilities around every now and then, I sometimes switch WoC with BiP or spectral grasp (if I do this I also switch my master trait to reduced corruption recharge). And yes, believe it or not, I actually equip Norn Racial – Become the Snow Leopard in Wv3, it allows me to overextend and it has saved my butt more times than I can count just these last two days where I’ve tried to use it. I do switch leopard to lich if I see the opportunity to wreak some havoc

Spite master trait I sometimes switch with I, VII, X – depending on how I’m feeling or what I forsee I’ll need.
Curses master trait I’ll sometimes switch to VII, if I’m taking out the WoC and taking grasp or BiP instead. When on walls defending I’ll take IX and switch in wells for ranged dmg.

The armor shown is as accurate as it will allow me to, in Wv3 I have full PVT armor with superior runes of the pack.
My backpiece is also PVT, Amulet and earrings are knights while accessory is rampager’s. I have ruby jewels in all of these except one, where I have the 25prec 15 tough, 15 power.
Weapons are Staff – Carrion / Dagger – Rampager / Dagger – beserker
(sigils are as shown in builder – with the exception of the sigil of blood that is actually sigil of generosity to get rid of conditions)

All in all, I’ve got 3100 power (bit more with staff, bit less with daggers out), 46% crit chance (49 with food), 35% crit dmg, 2200 armor (IIRC – 1600 or so tough).
I use omnomberry pie (or the less expensive one) for more precision and life steal, and sharpening stones for more power.

This build is both sustainable, it deals very good dmg and it is highly enjoyable.
You might wonder, why dagger/dagger and the reason is, while focus might be fine and dandy, when a thief pops into stealth you can’t target him, so it’s good to have some aoe with your dagger out. Additionally, dagger 5 gives 2 stacks of bleed for nice damage AND it gives weakness! Dagger 4, let’s not forget it transfers a condi and blinds as well.
I crit for 2500 or so in death shroud so thats not bad, with stacking of might per shot.
It’s not a full beserker build so the dmg is lower, however sustainability is higher I feel.

I don’t quite get it actually, the last time I was in a group, I was the only one who hadn’t died. Not only did I not die, I secured regen on the vast majority of the group, I spread conditions, well blind etc etc.
Necros can be good in groups imho.

atm I use sigil of geomance on staff and dagger, and sigil of generosity on warhorn.
I use runes of balthazar, just to try out and see if the burning helps me out, since I also have condition dmg… so far it actually works pretty well but again it’s an experiment.

It’s a really good solo/roam wvw build, life leech adds up really fast and makes you really durable.

Ahh but ofc at this point I do agree, it can be detrimental, however with staff4 it becomes a good point but only then, else it’s 1400 or so dmg free for your opponent.

If you like a slightly more DPS centric version of the juggermancer, try mine

WoC generates life force, can crit/proc effects AND flips boons on up to 5 people. Spinal Shivers has a 1200 range when traited, a lower cooldown and while it only affects 3 boons it does replace them reliably with a chill.

I’d go focus and WoC over Corrupt Boon tbh, especially with that 6s weakness. Never underestimate weakness, it’s a very dangerous condition.

Where do you get the weakness from? It’s not from focus, neither is it from WoC?

I use a 30 0 20 20 0 build atm with only 5/6 vamp runes and one ruby orb. Also well of corruption> spectral grasp. You will have problems with opponents that have boons plus the dps from the well > something that misses 1/2 the time.

Spectral grasp is awesome, I’ve dragged people from halfway across my screen, it’s just great Oh, and my grasp almost never misses, in fact I only see it miss when someone dodges it or it is obstructed by obstacles.
Btw, well of corruption only converts boons to conditions on a 1 second basis, and converts 1 boon to 1 condition per 1 second, so against a d/d ele, it won’t do much.
Corrupt boon is your friend here, convert em all in 1 press, it’s simple!

Which build?

I play a necro and often solo roam around in wv3, and I met 2 mesmers both of which absolutely destroyed me. Not like many mesmers do (and you do :P ) but like 24k hp poof aaaaand it’s gone (pun intended, ie South Park).

Didn’t catch the first mesmers abilities. But the second, a charr mesmer with a greatsword annihilated me within the time his GS phantasm had crippled me. So what I’m posting for is, well the build, if anyone knows what I am talking about?
And if so, how on earth do I counter it the next time I see this kind of burst mesmer.

The weird thing was also that I didn’t really do any dmg to him, meaning lower than usual when fighting you dastardly devils hehe

So, any help here?

I know the sixth one, the mist form, works .. have it on my mesmer. Gives the same skill as the Elementalist in downed state.

It does?!?!? I seemed to recall a video wherein you see your skillbar being replaced, and you being turned into mist, but most importantly where you could still be killed?
Can you remember if you are invulnerable while in the mist form?

What would you give up for that regen tick? I wouldn’t give up Fury on DS (as that provides a massive DPS boost), I wouldn’t give up 20% extra damage at 50% or less health, and I certainly wouldn’t give up the 100ish power and 50 toughness from the final trait in Death Magic.

It’s cool if people like it, but I really don’t think it makes a much of a difference. Assuming a fight lasts 10-15 seconds, thats 1-1.5khp tops. Less if you were in DS. I’d much rather pick something which has a more direct impact on me killing or not killing the enemy.

Lest we forget, we’ve already got 26-27khp which means that 15 point trait is a 4% increase in our overall survivability. 15 points in Curses or Spite as a much, much better improvement in our overall ability to win fights.

BUT, the regen along with leech (not discounting that you do the same in dmg to your opponent) might make sure you live long enough to heal up an extra time, thereby killing the chump
My reasoning are several fights where I needed just a bit of hp to get off a heal, and my opponent was also on low hp, so that’s why I like it. But I understand completely your reasoning as well

I’m actually trying a life leech’ish build, also having sigils of leech along with leech on hit and crit. And tbh I heal quite a bit when I have my dagger out. And when I channel dagger2 phew that’s a lot HP (since I heal on every hit because of the ability, and because of trait, along with heal on every crit, and since it hits 9 times ^^you get my point)

4/6 runes of vampirism doesn’t work. (leech life after heal)
I tried out of combat and it doesn’t proc.
I tried in combat, and made sure to stop autoattack then healing, still no proc.

the reason it says 11/6 is probably because you have the soldier runes equipped on your character in the mists, the spvp zone?

Hmm, I’ve experimented with that – I think that mathematically the 20% boost to damage when below 50% is better than both an extra 150 precision and the 2% per condition trait, but it’s about what works for you – and weakness on your target can be a game changer, so that’s totally valid.

I’d still go 10 into spite for retaliation in DS if I was in WvW or PvP – I can’t abide Blood Magic (the 15 point heal on hit is an insult to the mathematically literate) but I will experiment a bit more with 30 in Curses before ruling it out altogether.

With a dagger you hit 3 times really fast and then the 1/2 sec 3rd chain, and you heal for 29 hp (38/39) each hit, so that’s approx 118 (155-160) hp per auto attack chain.
So in the long haul it actually amounts to quite a bit. Along with regen if you also have a staff equipped. It’s awesome

And yes, to any who wonders about my decision, I did realize weapons would be small, but figured being tiny would prove an advantage in wv3. But I just can’t keep playing that tiny dude, so I made my norn necro

15% Critical damage & 36 seconds of Fury every 60 seconds (& 1 seconds for 15 spite Fury)
vs.
165 Toughness & 19 seconds of Protection every 60 seconds (& 1 second of burning)

For me its no choice, the 15% damage & almost perma-fury offers much more in offensive utility then the Forge runes do in defensive utility.

On another note, what is the skale venom some of you are mentioning?
