Will we evr geta direct way of getting precursors?

in Crafting

I think it should be a quest with a giant cool down. One precursor type per month can be obtained via some very difficult quest..now that is legendary..and would make everyone froth at the mouth to be the first one that month.

Making it drop from a boss isnt legendary..everyone will have one in a week.

Anet doesnt force you into anything. You can still farm to your hearts content and get everything..20 tokens at a time and a different mission at a time..what is so wrong with that? Im pretty sure the original model had the tokens dropping randomly instead of always at the end and you didnt always get even 20.

Trahearne

Ditton.3149

Trahearne is a manifestation of ArenaNet’s collective subconscious desire to be the star of their own show.

LOL, kind of reminds me of when one of my friends in high school would DM our D&D session, and then put “his” character in the campaign that was extremely uber and would just lead our characters around by the nose.

Joking aside though, I really felt that Tybalt was a much better character than Trahearne. Many, many players actually seemed to feel a bond with him, emphathize with him, and enjoy his humor. It would have been amazing if you and Tybalt wound up being the main heros.

i think they had to make you one of the soldiers..less it really break the entire immersion of Orr, its not great to begin with..it would be worse if you were supposed to be leading the whole thing and nobody was listening to you.

Trahearne

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Ditton.3149

Trahearne is the leader for many reasons. Some of which you only get if you talk to him outside the missions. First, he is the leader of the pale reavers, an elite sylvari special unit who can not be corrupted..ever wonder HOW he got all his knowledge? He also has no allegiance or fealty save his own love for the Pale Tree, so he could combine the strongest 3 factions and all the races together where nobody else could.

tybalt and forgal dont die closing the stupid door..they die buying you time to get to the boat!! Once you get past the gates, there are risen already there, only a few though..there are only a few because Forgal or Tybalt decided that no matter how strong the risen were..they couldnt have you.

Ever notice that whoever your guide is..be it Forgal or Tybalt that they both adore and really like Trahearne? That immediately imo puts that character in good graces with you..if you have built a relation of respect to someone and they show someone else respect and admiration, you will follow suit most of the time. Also..Trahearne doesnt back down an inch..not one kittening inch from the Risen even though he thinks at first there is no hope.

its not the “best” storytelling by any means..its no where near as bad as most people claim it to be. You have to actually pay attention to things outside the cut scenes though to get the full grasp of it.

What was the point of the 2 PvP events?

Ditton.3149

i dunno…just seems like you want alot of people to know you did something rather than having fun doing it. I dont get a reward for killing absolutely everything on the map, not every champion or veteran gives you a reward that is unique to killing them.

I think a good reward is basically the chance at something unique that you can either use or keep. I would not mind an NPC who handles skins, I dont think they will go this way though..its a f2p game and the transmute stones are on the BLC.

And the reason for not giving glory is because its not spvp..its an open event with people who dont like pvp doing it for the achievement. Rewards can not serve one master, they serve many..and you guys want this reward to only serve you. The announcement thing..not a bad idea..and if you had been paying attention..it was already there…“Ripper is going on a rampage”, I saw announcements like this all the time telling me who was kicking butt in the game I was in.

I think the token idea is the best compromise..have a holiday vendor, many items for prices in tokens..and each event gives you tokens based on winning or losing, and a chance at a special prize like a mini.

I find most of the mechanics in games to be tedious, inane and boring. WoW included. I hate artificial mechanics created just to damage a creature, id rather have high hp. If you want to force tactics, give the creature abilities that make it put people out of their comfort zone or have it not be alone..honestly why are champions on their own anyway, its a huge boss..let it summon a horde to fight with it like the dragons do..have the dragon hordes destroy anyone on the sides firing at the dragon..seriously why are all the champion creatures letting all those guys sit on a hill and fire mindlessly at their master? Have the Centaur overlord cast a knockdown on all melee opponents. and then an AoE..lets see who mindlessly beats on it then. I dont want to have to do a hokie pokie to kill a boss just because, I wouldnt mind the bosses having new and interesting abilities that force you to think outside the box.

Feedback: Orr

Posted by: Ditton.3149

Ditton.3149

You’re in Orr, Zhaitan’s home, do you think he is just gonna let you run around and do what you want without making it annoying for you?

Games are supposed to be fun. This…is just annoying (aka lame, not fun, something to avoid, won’t make devs money).

I enjoyed the Chaos that is Orr because it makes sense Lore wise. I know not everyone cares about lore, but this fits it which is what allowed me to enjoy it.

lol Chaos? What Chaos in Orr? It just felt like a generic zone to me…

The mob density isn’t a problem if you either CC them and run (dodging here and there) or just fight your way through them (if you run for a while and then try to fight; yes, you will end up fighting like 10 of them at once, but they are spread out enough that you shouldn’t have to fight more than 2 or 3 at most at a time if you work through it). For someone like me though, fighting off 10 generic enemies at once isn’t a challenge at all in this game.

Secondly in terms of design (not the aesthetics per say, but the mechanics mostly) it doesn’t seem like much though was put into the general mobs of Orr:

*There should be more patrols, hordes, of Risen roaming around in groups
*Instead of walking/running they should move more disturbingly, leaps and lunges, moving around in jerks and bursts; moving in an almost unnatural sort of way (“zombies” moving normally are boring, limping around is just overused)

I mean Orr is alright overall, but it could have been much better and seems just kind of rushed. The events don’t “snowflake” out like I heard Anet say in a video somewhere, the events just seem kind of generic when they could have been way more epic (where are my sieges and siege weapons I mean they could have had way more events with them like at Lone Post in Straights of Dev, or that Risen ship siege in Sparkfly Fen).

I mean we are supposed to be on the enemies front doorstep right?

Yeah..lose a few fights out there and see what happens to the outposts. The risen arent sentient at all, they are being completely controlled through Zhaitan. Why should they lunge and burst? Actually some of them do..the thieves will teleport behind you and heartseeker you, the guardians and necros prefer to chill or pull you to them and why not..its easier than chasing you down. The movement you talk about seems cool..but unnaturally made for a horror movie just for the purpose of fright as well..doesnt seem like the way things would work at all. Honestly, the thing is everybody concentrates on Orr but it snowflakes at like level 55 or so…you begin to see more and more undead and the pact trying to push them back. By the time you get to Orr, the Pact has already entrenched themselves deep in the land..they are in front of Arah already. Alot of the moving into their territory and taking back lands is done in the personal story.

There is also several places that give you the “last standing post” feel in Malchor’s leap especially. People just get tired of doing any event that doesnt give them a karma merchant.

Yeah, the halloween stuff was pretty big going in, I’m sure most of this is undoing it, which is kind of sad (that they have to patch the stuff in and out).

As a friend said, it would be nice if they had background downloading and such for GW2 and as fluid as the game is in so many ways, it’s wierd that they have to patch event stuff like this in/out.

Like in the game that won’t be named, the events just start. The stuff is already there waiting. They don’t have to activate it via patch and deactivate it via another patch.

I dont think they have to patch the vents..they do have to patch the SPvP tournaments, wvw orb removal and several hidden beginnings to the new area.

I think also..that they will add more skills, attunements and even classes..it just takes time. Gw1 did not start out with the amount of skills and classes that is has now, it takes time to get there. I honestly have a great time playing my thief and use all of the abilities, some in different ways..my ldb thief is a very kinetic, bouncy kind of character..I dont leap and then wait, I leap, leap, leap, roll usually dropping caltrops..watch my enemies bleed, pick one out..heartseeker, roll out..switch to dual pistols..unload on strong enemy, LDB again..etc..and my pattern changes depending on how much damage Im taking, what the cc and abilities of the enemy are..if you are only using two abilities..well its your own fault really.

I think what you want..is Gw1.5..and what you got is Gw2, its a new game, its not going to be the same. Gw1 at its beginning did not have 1000 skills, it did have dual class, which is a limitation, however I dont find lack of skill slots the reason I play or dont play a game. The other thing is that in Gw1 you could make a class that could fulfill all roles, here you cant..you can solo dungeons, its going to take you more than 8 minutes and thus there is no purpose making a super build.

I would just like to add is that when GW1 came out, the monk class wasn’t a class that jumped out at ppl and said play me, infact like any other mmo’s at the time the healer class was the least played class. It wasn’t til when guild groups became a thing, then healers became a popular class to play. If anyone had played Rift when it first came out, you’d probably see a good 50-60% of players were healers. I understand why Anet took out healers because of GW1 groups were standing around for ages looking for one but if they had looked at any new game they would of seen that healers were now a common class. In my experience, if ppl came to a game on their own they would pick either a healer or a tank type then find a guild and make new friends, if ppl came to a game with a guild from another game or friends they would choose within themselves who plays what. Healers would not be short if they had them in this game.

yeah that is a bad example, Rift had that many healers because two of the healer trees were the best farming bots in the game, capable of sololing elite rifts while healing via fighting..so yeah..bad example. There were NOT many true healers, because just like any other game you had to put so many resources into healing it made you useless for anything but spelunking into dungeons.

They did remove the trinity, the trinity isnt needed at all. If you want to play that way, you play it because you like it, not because you are an overpowered tank or healer. If you want to soak up damage and hit like a duck..then go for it..max healing power and toughness and you will never die, you also will have issues killing the bunnies that walk by you. If you want to be a healer, then mitigate damage…you’re not just patching guys up, you are slowing the enemy down, weakening the enemy so its hits are not as big…no you dont have the same Healing per second..because if you want to go that way you are supposed to also invest in the abilities that hamper the enemy from doing damage in the first place.

The thing is..that sort of crafting is here already..you arent going to get better stats with crafting because they want the grin to be aesthetic and you CAN craft items that are aesthetically different you just have to go get the recipes. the issue is nobody cares, they would rather have an aesthetic that is good enough, and does the same job.

I crafted in both of those games…never found it useful. You grind to get your high level crafting, grind to get the high level recipe..and make items..about it. I think what you are trying to say is that crafting should have recipes that stand above and beyond that which can be found. Aesthetically you already do..godskull, corrupted etc, however because of the internets and the TP it costs more to make those items than its worth, Id rather buy it and save myself the farming.

and Wow crafting at the beginning was nothing special either..it was find blue ingredient, craft blue shoes from pattern, disenchant shoes to get material..move on and repeat with next high level pattern.

Not negative.
GW had some many great features that I miss them here.

Elite skills. In GW you had to chease down the elites and capture their skill from them.
Guild vs Guild battles.
Battle for the favor of the gods AND the dungeon it opened.
The skill system. Lots of great builds/group builds.

Gw1 did not have all that when it came out. It took quite a while for it to be all sorted out. Though the dual class skill thing was fun.

The key to crafting is diversity. If there are too many crafters making one thing then crafted items are always going to be worth less than the materials used to make them, since all the crafters need to make them anyway to increase their crafting level. A hard problem to solve, but GW2 makes the situation even worse by having equivalents to crafted items drop in the open world and as karma rewards, which greatly exacerbates the problem.

Nah..the auction house screws that completely. The only way you can artificially limit it is to put it in a hard to find area..like you must kill lupicus to make “X” ingredient for a sword, the issue is any regular component that can be farmed will be manipulated within an inch of its life by the TP vigilantes. Im looking at you vanilla beans.

Secondly, Runes provide these extra benefits already and this is a system that allows a vast array of customisation as an addition to crafting items.

Am I missing something then? I’ve got up to level 80 in the game and the Rune business doesn’t seem to affect anything yet. Surely, I could have a tiny bit of extra power versus a tiny bit of extra healing, but it changes the way I successfully complete a battle not one iota.

What I’d ask for from a combination of the combat and the crafting is very simple: I see an enemy. What kind of enemy it is determines how I approach the fight. If it’s a new enemy, I first have to figure out what strategy works best. If I go in with the wrong one, I either lose or am severely damaged. If I go in with the right one and time my attacks successfully, and dodge when I need to, I can win almost flawlessly.

Instead, the way it works is this: I see an enemy. The only thing that matters is if it’s a veteran or champion. Other than that, it could be a black, unlabelled blot on the screen because how I go about defeating it will be exactly the same every time.

And yes, I do try different weapon combinations and abilities. I regularly swap them. I try discovering combos. I try different styles of opening shot. I swap runes and reroll my trait tree. It makes no difference. Nothing is any more effective than anything else in 99% of the encounters.

yeah, you are choosing runes based on stats instead of utility. Some runes add abilities to your skills..grenth freezes anyone around you everytime you heal, lyssa makes all your elite skills give you all boons and lose conditions for 10 seconds, others summon creatures, give you life steal, give swiftness, bleed opponents around you..so yeah, ,you are missing something.

No offense, but nothing is more effective than the other, its just different. That is the same in any game…magic and melee are the same in an abstract sense..just ways of depleting life or performing utility, in in their execution that they differ and honestly aesthetically only.

I dont want to perform the hokie pokie to kill a boss..to have to stand in a particular area or make sure they are together but not too long or their rage timer will come. Many of the bosses in this game have phases and mechanics, people can skip them though because of raw power and boons due to having abilities above the level the dungeon or boss was designed for. What they need to do is add more abilities to the bosses if the average level is higher than intended.

I dont think anyone would buy the bow and an interesting crafting system becomes a grind in any game, the only way they artificially hamper it is to make the components rare ie put them in a raid or something like that..its always the same though..put x and y and special z into a pot and stir..there is nothing fantastic about it. Weapons outside of damage have no effects at all right now, so it seems to me you are talking about less of crafting and more weapon design.

Your combat system sounds too much like any generic MMO to me. I dont want there to be only one way to kill a boss, I always thought that was stupid. Id rather they give me a skill-swap and the chance to open up more weapon switches..that would be great diversity. Now what would be interesting, is a mechanic where certain combinations of traits opened up new skills or changed old ones. Like..maxing your crit and power line gives you a new powerful skill, maxing crit and traps gives your traps new conditions etc..

Let's speculate on the changes

in Ranger

Posted by: Ditton.3149

Ditton.3149

I personally would LOVE to see ranger pets straight up dropped.

IMHO Ranger is all about nature and knowing its surroundings, using them to his advantage, being sneaky (not thief sneaky but quick and able to gain position wile not standing out). Traps are spot on for a Ranger. Do not feel stealth should work to hide people from us as a Ranger who is in tune with his surroundings should notice. We should have more movement options and something to allow us to take cover wile we shoot would feel right in the idea of how a ranger would act. Shouts are not needed with no pet and what kind of ranger would go out shouting things in combat.. Spirits are bad and have nothing to do with a Ranger?… Want to give group utility for buffs? How about a protection kind of cover or set down things like an engi does that people can run over to get the heal or buff or traps that make circles that buff people inside them?

Where did this idea a Ranger has to be a pet profession come from? WoW?
Rangers used wolfs and bears and dogs to fight for them? Probably not, at most a hawk or falcon to communicate via letters the rest would give him away cause they are large or loud.

If they want rangers to have these pets so bad make them like the spirits of the animals we found and they just give a boon or remove a condition or defend us..

On topic as they are not going to drop the dumb pet or change anything about Ranger over all class design…

I venture to guess they improve long bow, fix 1 handed sword root, and don’t touch the other weps.

Probably wont touch our skill trees or heals

Will leave pets how they are

and change a signet or 2 a shout or 2 and make spirits suck just a little less

and why do I sound so negative?

Cause they want to make more builds usable. Which to me translates to no big changes just a few so you can try and offer more to a party in some other area then dps.

I really enjoy Ranger (hate the pet but the class looking past the pet is fun to me). I just do not think we are going to see any big profession altering change any time soon..

Prove me wrong please! I want to be wrong.. I have even started to finish upgrading what was left to upgrade on my Ranger’s gear. But I just refuse to get my hopes up too high and have them smashed in a good spirited attempt to make things better that fell short.

why dont you just go play a thief? they have traps, are sneaky , lay down “cover” in the form of a stealth shield and hey no pets!!

-Per Run: I only play with one character, i don’t have the time too play many so for me, one run/day…To get the 5 differents missing pieces of the Mad King’s set? Joke…

And just for your information, i’m not that lucky to get some exo each time i open a chest! BEFORE the nerf i only get 1 lvl76exo from more than 10chest and it was on the first one! Since this time, so before and after the nerf, i only get blue or green at best!

Oh and the best joke? This only one exo i droped… Was the 1rst one i dropped since i’ve start playing GW2…So 3days before the official release since a have pre-order the game…

I’m not complaining about the fact that it was necessary to fix this chest droprate problem, i’m complaining about the way they fixed it and the way it affect me (and my guildmates btw)

How do you choose the states of the 2nd book?

You can transmute the book to a backpack, as you dont wear one on a ranger anyway most likely, not show it anyway. There might be two more, if it keeps scaling it will be an exotic by the end. Its novel, its special, and its useful..its just not exactly what you want. Again, its unfortunate the chests became nerfed, however for some reason they dont seem to want to delete items from inventories so instead to limit the supply once its out there they severely filter it. I am not saying its a good thing or nice practice, ,what I am saying is that its due to the misuse of the product in the first place. They keep playing on some sort of honor system, they should realize some people are greedy and will exploit in any way they can to make cash. Hopefully they find a better balance, like everyone gets one exotic per account per week or something. The problem with per character is that people in an instance that auto levels you to 80 can simply make a new toon in 5 min and run out there.

Had they just walked around killing mobs and waiting for the thing to spawn, Anet would not have changed it..instead they were killing 6-10 champion mobs every 20 minutes. you should fight them for fun..and a chance at something not a guarantee. Ive still had a blast with my guild and friends in these events, even though I havent gotten an exotic..exotic does not equal fun.

Im spending the day with my guild and friends having a blast…im sorry that all you care about is the gold you get from exploiting the event.

you’re right, Im wrong. Go convince the devs its lucrative and worth their time, ill be awaiting your triumph.

As far as this guy is concerned, he claims he likes Open World PvP but in this whole thread he argues and troll’s. He is probably one of the guys who is reporting all of my threads lol. Why do you care so much or even want to talk about being lucrative? We the players should not care about worrying how to make the game money. What are you thinking???? Do you work for the game? Another thing, no one absolutely cares why you “Don’t want a PvP Server”. Don’t log in there, that is the very basis. There is only 1 Opinion that matters when it comes to saying no to us that it won’t work and that is the folks who created this game.

Why feel so compelled to be their advocate and jump the gun and tell us no, unt uh, it aint happening? lol

I dont feel compelled to write up anyone. Despite your limited understanding of anything including me, Ive no bias against you or what you want. You would be best served to direct your influence toward what you want and not those who have chosen to concede and move on.

I'm just not happy with this game...

Ive never had an issue looking for a group or being something completely different with the combat system. I think the trait and skill system allows you to customize more how you play and less what buttons you press, which I like.

Yeah I have the same weapon attacks, however I utilize them completely differently. If Im a heavy tank build then i dont move around much, I more or less rely on defenses, healing and the occasional roll to move me away. If im a vigor vigilante who gives all his allies vigor, feeds on endurance and is built to move then my defense is moving..and constantly.

Honestly it seems like you guys are so static on the skillset defining you, that you can not be a certain away unless you have moar skills and different ones..just using them differently for different purposes isnt good enough. The skills are there to do just about anything, you just cant do everything all at once which I like, if you are used to doing everything at once then well…this isnt the game for you. Its built for teams when it gets tough or strategic thinking. My best friend runs around Cursed Shore and Malchors Leap naked with nothing but spirits on her ranger just to prove she can while collecting Ori, she’s found another use for the myriad of skills we have, its not what its in the tooltip but it works.

I dont have a rotation, I use my abilities like a utility belt..Im the kittening batman and I improvise.
