Here’s one we haven’t seen since 2012: The mini-dungeon where we fought the Mad King under a ghastly moon.

Greyed Out UpVote When I Did Not UpVote

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Donari.5237

Donari.5237

The forum upvote feature is a nice way to quickly acknowledge that you like what someone posted without necessarily adding more forum clutter by just posting a Plus One at them.

The thing is that it greys out when you click it, which is a good way to indicate you already voted. However, I’ve found a number of posts with it greyed out that I did not want upvoted, so I clicked them back to bright red.

Ooops.

I just very belatedly checked my profile to see … and all those that I toggled to bright red? They’re showing as upvoted by me and some of them I absolutely do not agree with, which is why I went to the effort of ungreying them in the first place. Anyone who bothers to see what posts I vote for is going to get a nasty picture of me ><

I know there aren’t too many fixes that can be done to the forums thanks to the contractor situation, so this is more of a PSA to help others avoid looking like jerks due to their “agreeing” with jerk posts.

How to keep mini in use all the time?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Donari.5237

Donari.5237

There are two ways to activate a mini. One is from your inventory and that will still have the old disappearing behavior. The other is in the miniatures panel. There, you pick the mini you want to have out in the world, and check the toggle box in the square at the top to make it visible. If you check the box, you’ll have the owl out. It will persist except when a map is so crowded that minis get disabled.

You can add the teragriff to your wardrobe via right clicking it and picking Add to Wardrobe from the drop down. It will no longer be in your inventory, and it will be bound to your account so all your alts can use it from their Mini panel but you can no longer trade or sell it.

Hmm, if we’re moving to just cool shots as opposed to documenting the moments in the game that made us go “whooooa …. awesome,” then I’ve another that is a blend. I’ve posted this one before. I think it’s the single best screenshot I’ve taken, compositionally speaking. And it shows the “wow” of fighting in the ruins of LA. Even after they announced the crap was about to hit the fan in LA, players didn’t believe they’d really destroy the hub city of the game. Then we got the cinematic, and then we ran in through the gates into choking miasma and Scarlet minions everywhere, we saved civilians and fought watchknights that required map-wide coordination and made it up onto the Breachmaker to a huge group combat set to epic music, which led to an instanced fight against Scarlet herself. So much RP spun off of all that, the echoes remain in plotlines to this day.

They haven’t released that info yet. There’s a datamined text string suggesting pre-purchase is coming, which should be no surprise to anyone. Beyond that we’re all waiting to find out.

There are two more legends yet to be announced and Roy said more than once in the live stream on Ventari that there will be good synergy with the new ones, though he can’t say why just yet because they haven’t been revealed.

Binding skills to mouse buttons

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Donari.5237

Donari.5237

The rule of thumb is that one button press equals one action. The only in-game combo key I can think of off the cuff is ctrl-T to set a target. So obviously doing a ctrl-T bind would be legit, though note that is one game action. And some people say they like to use a modifier key so they are using 1-5 and shift-1 to shift-5, for example, and that should be bindable as well to let you open up 6-0 for other bindings.

However jump and dodge are two different game actions that can be executed together if you hit the two keys fast enough in the right order and moment. I think that would become clicking one button to do two game actions and would not be allowed.

HoT - Traits locked?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Donari.5237

Donari.5237

What do you mean by locked?

Core Spec traits will be bought with Hero Points. You get those for a) leveling up and b) doing skill challenges (blue chevrons on maps). Being level 80 and having around 65 challenges should let you buy every core trait and skill. This change comes before HoT.

Elite Spec traits will be bought with more Hero Points. How many more we don’t know. I’ve added 35 challenges done to each of my alts (so all have at least 100 credited on the Map Completion list) and will add more as needed.

Presumably low level alts still won’t get all the traits.

Late August release? Do you guys have amnesia when it comes to content being released for this game or are the rose tinted glasses making things a little blurry?

I mean Im not trying tto be a downer, but with how slow we are getting information about the game, on top of the fact that it’s already JUNE and we still don’t even have an idea of a release date, it’s way more than optimistic to expect in as little as 3 months they will get through all these minuscule previews, announce a release date, and then ship the game.

If HOT drops this year I will honestly be shocked, albeit happily.

Actually we have the clarity of hindsight going.

“On 23 January 2012, ArenaNet announced that Guild Wars 2 would launch by the end of that year, following beta tests throughout March and April.3 On 28 June, ArenaNet announced that the game would launch on 28 August 2012.”

I’ve had a lot of “wow” moments in this game but I have to say the first truly epic moment for me was in the second battle of Claw Island, a month or two after launch. I had no warning of what to expect, no spoilers at all. And suddenly I was charging a freaking dragon in the midst of an army of NPCs while victorious music soared. It’s the soundtrack piece called “Raven Speaks,” or something like that.

Again, there have been many many moments. Many breathtaking moments. Yet I’ll highlight just one more — getting sucked into Omadd’s Machine without any idea what was coming. I was blown away.

E-mail regarding.. not getting into Beta

I got one, and I am one of the dysfunctional Portal holders. I replied to the email to tell them not to spend more time checking on my status as I already got the gems.

Daydreamer Skins a good investment?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Donari.5237

Donari.5237

Some people hate ‘em, some love ’em. I’m in the love camp. Between tickets and depletion of my gold, I’ve got six of them now when frequently I’ll let a whole set go buy untouched.

Does that mean I’d pay hundreds for one? Nope. I don’t have hundreds.

So the question is whether those who do have hundreds or thousands of gold will want them more than they want other things they can buy, and there’s no good way to know that in advance. I suppose you can track the prices on them and compare them to other BL weapon sets in history to see if Daydreamer prices are markedly different. As in, after two weeks on the trader, what is their average sale value? I think some sets have stayed around 70 gold, others well over 100, and then there’s the ones that get removed and they soar.

For UI I meant visually on the screen. One can hotkey anything on the keyboard, pretty much. Me, I use – to auto-run and = to toggle walk/run and I wouldn’t change that as that is the same in every game for me.

Right now there is quite a bit of symmetry to the hotbar, with boons/conditions balancing the F1-F4 skills/bars and 5 skill boxes on each side of the HP circle. I’m wondering where an 11th skill would go (ditto on the consumables/toys bar that many have requested, nice though it would be to have that).

I read this as saying you see through the Legend’s eyes. Maybe it’s easier to do that if you aren’t doubling up the input with your own vision, but not impossible, hence some Revs will ditch the blindfolds. I can see some RP potential there: an actually blind Rev, or a colorblind one, or a nearsighted one, using the Legend vision to enhance perception. Also different things will snag different people’s attention, so maybe while you channel Ventari you are more aware of the plants around you and when you have Malyx up you spot weaknesses and flaws … that’s a horrid example, I guess, but I’m just feeling my way into this for now.

which makes a bit more sense, but doesn’t explain how they’re able to fight while being blinded. I guess the mist sonar thing works though, it’s the best we’ve got for now.

I wasn’t typing very clearly. I meant the Legend becomes sort of an overlay. It’s not a figure standing off to the side, it’s mingled with the Revenant, so the Rev switches over to its eyes which are pretty much in the same position as the Rev’s. (Don’t ask me how Jalis’ eyes are at, say, norn height … magic, right?).

Since Revenant doesn’t come out until HoT, and neither do Elite Specs, I don’t see how Rev could be “first” if several get it simultaneously. Ergo if other professions do get melee staff it won’t be until a second Elite Spec for that profession debuts some time after HoT launch.

In the stress test beta where we first tried out Revenant, you could indeed swap the order of the 7-9 skills. I did so first thing. I assume this remained true for last week’s beta or people would have lit up the forums about the change.

“A revenant’s signature blindfold isn’t mandatory, either, as revenants don’t become blind as a natural result of their profession. Most of them only wear a blindfold as a tool to help them commune with the legends, who are able to perceive the world through their own senses.”

I read this as saying you see through the Legend’s eyes. Maybe it’s easier to do that if you aren’t doubling up the input with your own vision, but not impossible, hence some Revs will ditch the blindfolds. I also read books, hang out on these forums, play solitaire, join friends for tabletop (Exalted and 5E), avoid housework, grudgingly do housework … I’m eagerly awaiting the PS changes so I can run alts through to see what’s changed there. I’d try Witcher 3 but I’ve read some things saying I can’t remap from WASD. Maybe I can configure a setting on my HEX to put that on my mouse; if HEX lets me set LMB/RMB together as “W” then maybe I can play that.

And every Thursday I greedily refresh the News page on this site until a blog appears

Suggestion: Racial Skill Slot

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Donari.5237

Donari.5237

I do like the idea of setting up a racial skill as an “extra.” It would add flavor and immersion. I see some cons, however, and would love to see how you would address them:

UI clutter — Right now all the skills fit in 1 – 0 and F1 – F4 (soon there will be F5). They are in an evenly split hotbar. Where would you put this 11th skill?

Balance — You’re asking to add in another utility which, while designed to be weaker than profession skills, still has an effect on combat. Do you change the racial skills to be cosmetic to compensate? Or if they retain combat effectiveness, how do you set them so they don’t add in any overpowering synergies?

Required race — If you need a certain race to do some certain skill in a place, you are altering a paradigm of this game. The philosophy here is to play the race and profession you want and not be ruled out of parties because you aren’t playing the desired mix. Sure players are human and will set up their own cliques (like kicking necros and rangers out of dungeon pugs), but it’s not intended that a particular mix be better for gameplay than any other. How do you prevent that, if you want special racial skills to make a difference?

Every vendor has a buyback tab. if you sell something accidentally, you can buy it back

thanks, I never even noticed that, how does the pricing work though?

If you sold it for 3 silver then you buy it back for 3 silver. I suppose if you somehow spent all your money before visiting the buyback tab that you would not be able to buy it back, but that seems rather unlikely given that you only get the buyback option while you remain logged in on that map anyway (or in that game session? I haven’t tested it on re-zoning).

I’ll have you know that that, sir or madam, is not dejection but rather quiet contemplation of folly. Were a Norn to settle his or her much more … legendary sized rear upon that bench, no room would remain between oar haft and hip, nor indeed sufficient length of haft for Norn hands to grip.

And I realized that the builder had no idea of actual rowboat use — look at the relative positions of benches and oarlocks.

I suppose it goes along with the aft pennants on sailing vessels in cinematics, eg Claw Island, which stream directly back into the pushing wind … I’m pretty sure things don’t work that way.

"DragonHunter" name feedback [merged]

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Donari.5237

Donari.5237

Not excited about the Dragonhunter, dislike name and gameplay. It’s just out of step with the Guardian archetype and based on 42 pages of comments there is obviously something wrong here.

I’m fine with the gameplay, not enamored of the name as I’ve stated before. I’m not sure the size of the thread proves something is wrong, however. There have been a lot of the same people posting, a lot of the same thoughts reiterated, and I’d ascribe some of the thread’s lifespan to people jumping on the bandwagon who wouldn’t necessarily have minded the name if they hadn’t seen others lambasting it.

I feel the criticisms of the name choice are valid, at least those that go into thoughtful analysis. I would be happy if a re-name occurred. But I’d hope that if ANet did so it would be due to the valid criticisms and not merely because people were loud enough long enough. Why? Because that would mean they were keeping control of their artistic vision while retaining flexibility to correct things that don’t work, rather than letting a committee of malcontents dictate design.

Guys, all these specific suggestions should go in the appropriate subforum, most of them in their own threads. The CDI subforum is for developer/player think tank discussion of larger scale projects, and this particular thread is about the methods of contributing to those discussions. If you want your ideas seen you probably don’t want to post them in a highly inactive place that requires no dev attention because there is no active CDI in progress here.
