The way games that offer this tend to do it is have two columns of binds. Left one is account wide, right one is for that particular alt.
I would love the name of that ESO mod, Danikat, as my preference is always for global keybinds so I don’t forget what does what on each alt. I even try to set things the same game to game as best I can, though there will be differences and I will hit the wrong things if I hop between games. Any time I take a short break from GW2 I find myself hitting 1 to start a fight, for instance, so in WoW my mage iceblocks herself into uselessness pre-combat and in ESO I fire off a pull instead of setting up a long range shot … oy. At least WoW isn’t a factor any more, I’m outta there
Anyway, as long as the default is global binds so long as you don’t specify otherwise, so only those wanting the extra complication receive it, I’m fine with this suggestion and can see it offering a good QoL improvement for those in need.
Six is correct, as the Revenant will also have a specialization. Today’s teaser image suggests we’ll learn something more about Revenant on Thursday, so it’s vaguely possible that will include the spec, though they seem keen to spend a whole reveal just on the spec so they might not be as generous with the info dump as we’d like. If they continue the slow trickle, we are more likely to simply find out the rest of the Revenant Core.
I had that happen Saturday night, briefly. I think it’s telling you to heal, but it’s glitched and sticks around.
I did not screenshot but it is a very large white triangle, fairly flattened (ie an obtuse angled one), pointing downwards. I didn’t try Escape or anything, it didn’t persist long enough for me to do more than go “Huh, lookithat.” I was on an 80 but was in Queensdale at the time as I recall (it’s a little fuzzy, could have been Kessex, I was helping someone film a machinima so we were hopping around maps a lot).
The reddit thread had a followup from Devon Carver,
“I wouldn’t read too much into this. In that we’ll announce a date when there is a date to announce.”

The man has some interesting personality. The lipsticked woman has a sassy 1930’s or ’40’s look. The “Twiggy” is offputting to me, with the huge eyes and mouth, sorry
There actually is a longish male hairdo, the Legolas-looking one with braids, but I like the short but thick mane on your copperhead.
When choosing male/female, test the light armor on both genders to see which has a wardrobe range you prefer.
I don’t know if any are on the TP right now (and a “ton” of gold would be needed if so) but I adore the Aetherized Pistol. It’s a long barreled revolver, silver in color, with a bit of steam coming out.
Beyond that do as others have suggested. Head to a bank or crafting station bank tab, click on wardrobe, click on one-hand weapons, scroll to pistols, and just preview them one after another. I tend to jot a list of good skins when I do that, for instance for coming specializations I’ve already selected a short list of desired skins for each alt so I can narrow it down when the time comes.
Has Arenanet stated it’s actual skill challenges completed & not skill points. If so doesn’t this work against PvP players unlocking PvE traits & skills not to mention WvW players that don’t PvE much.
Yes, they have. In blogs and in live streams they have said more than once that skill points from scrolls and from post-80 “level ups” will all convert to the new currency, and the only sources of Hero Points (which you spend for traits and skills in the new system) will be leveling up and doing in-world Hero Challenges, currently named Skill Challenges.
This gives them a finite pool of points available with an easily trackable source of those points.
Check the breach of faith thread for discussion of the impact on non PvE’ers.
I would love this outfit from a Whispers PS step. Recommended dye channels: Vest, shirt, pants, belt/boots.
I’ll be honest, if you applied FOR THE NEWSLETTER you should have gotten the invite , if you didn’t apply it’s not A-Nets fault.
Also :Most ppl who apllied for the newsletter around of the time they announced the actual closed beta -weekend-, seem to have gotten left out. Those who were on time got in (before this time, during the actual farm or before). I do not know where A-net put the line, but I guess you were a bit late….
This part is incorrect. A sub to the newsletter was not at all required. An invite via the newsletter was not needed. All one had to have was the beta slot added to one’s character select.
Also, being subscribed earlier did not mean getting in. I’ve been subscribed since long before the original HoT announcement. I got two portals. I did not get my beta slot (or the email).
There wasn’t a “line” placed to bar people from entry, this is a real bug and Support is trying to find the cause. Sorry for the slight derail here from the compensation discussion, but I already put my answer to that towards the top of the thread. I just don’t want people forming an opinion that if compensation is reasonable to ask for, it should be denied because of “you snooze you lose even if you got a portal.” Late newsletter application was not in any way the determining factor here.
There are still open tickets. Support is working on tracking down the cause of the glitch, but there’s a weekend going on right now … how do I know? I’ve been in cordial communication on my ticket as one of the affected people.
Anyway, major in game bling seems overkill as compensation. What I and others have suggested — and I’m fine with not getting anything, because crap happens and missing out on a couple of fun hours of bug hunting has not ruined my life — is that all those with inoperative Portals get an automatic invite to the next closed beta, if there is one, without any RNG or farming required.
I believe the percentage is deceptive because it’s the number of files you have remaining to load, not the overall size. And I hear that if you stop the load and restart, it will calculate the percentage from 0% again though it will only have the files left to load you didn’t yet receive.
Chairs-as-toys or similar deployable items have been suggested many a time given the stated technical inability to make environmental furniture interactable. The amount of squeeing that shall ensue if ANet implements the more creative variants will be epic.
Aieee I didn’t check this subforum today. Still in need?
The video of the Reaper in LA going in and out of Shroud had her in new armor as well.
Rose, I think you have a different mental image as to what the OP means. Almost every medium coat has a “skirt.” Ie they are trench coats as people call them, though in fact few look like a classic trench coat.. They hide the leggings, they bell out, they usually have ragged edges. They tend to be thigh to calf length.
It’s certainly possible for medium tops to exist without the tails. Female Krytan, for instance, or the Scout’s Coat for humans which only has a little flaring or ruffling over the hips.
But they’d have to remake every medium chest to have a reasonable waist hem visible if one toggled off the visibility of the tails, not to mention the likely difficulty of coding in such a toggle. I doubt this will happen for current armor; we can only hope they come up with more simple tops.
Trash talking is normal and we should have a thick skin about it? Um, ok. I mean, I do have a thick skin. Through years of MMOing I’ve had people try to insult me, usually hysterically wide of the mark. I recognize the puerile thrashing for what it is, and really, to really sting there has to be some kernel of truth in the insult. I still giggle years later about the person who called me a “fat sow” in one game. Well, they got the gender right … I prefer being nice to people, helping them enjoy life more. I’m no saint, and I don’t always succeed in hiding my frustrations with others, but I do my best to avoid cutting remarks and to compliment even those I despise for the things about them I admire. I apply the same rules to online interactions. I don’t like people being nasty to me or my friends, why would I invite such nastiness by fomenting my own?
The thing is, just because a lot of people are (feline filter words here) to each other, and more so from the perceived anonymity of the internet, doesn’t mean we should put up with it and especially not that we should embrace it. Civilized behavior has to be trained into people, both into individuals and into cultures.
The Golden Rule predates Ancient Greece, though the Greeks made it a common concept. Millennia later, a lot of humans still struggle with it. Hurray for ANet for helping make it less of a struggle.
3) I’ve never said that creating an event would only take one week.
Actually, that’s how I interpreted your paragraph above:
“I don’t speak about gear or anything like that. I speak about the things that get added regularely into the gemstore. ANet starts a “Kickstarter campaign” for that item one week before release, detailing what item it is and what event it could be implemented in and waits if enough money gets raised during that week to implement it. If not, it goes into the gemstore, if yes, the item will be held back (or still be released in the gemstore) and the event will be implemented with the item as reward.”
I see now that you’re saying release gets delayed if people pay enough money to get it as an event rather than as a straight up gem store purchase. I’m not sure that’s any better.
I don’t think flesh wound was saying s/he won’t spend money on the gem store.
It’s more that s/he (and I) won’t spend money for game play that won’t exist unless enough people pony up, but if too few pay the money, ANet still gets all that money as pure profit and then tosses in the game-play items for yet more money.
I am certainly a whale. Not to the extent of opening my wallet to get Legendaries, and some items I’ve never bought (boxing gloves, Toxic, Lawbreaker, other things with no aesthetic appeal to me), but I’ve bought most every cosmetic item the gem store has provided. Always because I liked them enough to want them.
And yet I would not sink one penny into this pie-in-the-sky-scam-feeling concept.
I see problems with this.
One: To me this is an abuse of Kickstarter. Kickstarter should be used to get community funding of projects that otherwise could not exist, not to be a “voting” system where the project starter rakes in money for stuff they’re doing anyway.
Two: I don’t think money is the limiting factor for ANet. Manpower is. Certainly over time they can expand (and have done so), but hiring, training, and integrating qualified people into the design team isn’t just a matter of tossing money at things. They have to allocate their man-hours to the development most needed for the game and can’t just divert them to one week projects on a whim.
Three: Creating an event takes more than a week. You’re asking them to develop content, have people money-vote on whether to use it, then toss it in the wastebasket if “not enough” money comes in to “earn” the in-game event.
Four: What Just a flesh wound said. Why should we pay money as an incentive to do work that may or may not be completed? I don’t get in bidding wars to get a plumber to agree that I’m the winner so he or she will come to my house to fix my toilet, and then pay the additional parts and labor costs, with the understanding that if I lose the bid I’m still out the money I paid.
The only reason to delete it is if you believe you will be in the next beta and want to play a different profession from the one you rolled. Otherwise it will either carry through and be playable in the next beta or ANet will wipe it and remove the slot from your select screen before the next round of invites, as they did before this past beta. So you might as well leave it filled so you don’t have to spend time creating a character next time, on the off chance you keep it.
However, you will only be able to use it in the betas. Also apparently any money spent or gained on it goes to a copy of your wallet, not to your live account wallet (according to a dev post). Transmutation charges used in beta do, per some unconfirmed reports, get deducted from your live account.
Weren’t we supposed to spend hero points to unlock them or am i mixing this up with skills?
This is correct. It’s one of the few very known things about what’s coming, in fact.
OP, those who’ve already spent gold on traits likely won’t get that back. Heck, those who unlocked them via world events won’t have any special compensation. If you can hold out a bit longer without traits, you will save your resources come the changeover. To be ready you will want to unlock as many skill challenges in the PvE maps as you can stomach doing, on as many alts as possible. 65 is the working figure for now, with more needed later when HoT arrives if you want the elite spec.
While those who spent coin on traits before the announced change might well feel aggrieved over this (and with good reason if they spent a lot in the days right before the announcement and would not have spent it until the new system showed up had they known), anyone spending on it post-announcement has had fair warning and should factor in the coming changes when deciding if it’s worth the outlay in order to have traits now.
Any time there is a major system overhaul there are going to be teething pains. ANet has historically done what it can to reduce this, eg when dyes went account wide people that had unlocked the same dye on multiple accounts got credit for the extra unlocks in the form of unidentified dyes to keep, use, or sell. /grins … the only time I’ve ever been over 400 gold was when I finally sold off a few stacks of those to make bank space, long after the change. Anyway, I’m sure they’re trying to come up with a method of compensation that is fair as well as accurately targeted. But if they can’t, well, gold will continue to flow into wallets and in not too long the impact will be smoothed over.
I herd it is now available to pre order Heart of thrones is this correct and where at give me the link asap – will this also include extra character slots ?
Maybe Heart of Thrones is available, but whatever it is it’s not a GW2-related product.
:D

Well, to be fair, paying the gold does set the bandits inside to neutral for a time. I think there’s a coin in there for the coin achievement and not having to fight your way to it could maybe vaguely be worth two gold to some people?
You certainly can get closer than that. I took a series of closeups, I forget why — maybe for that “how old am I” thread — here are a couple of them. I had to toggle off “Use Character Height” and disable First Person so I didn’t keep slamming into that and rotating the character, then slide the FoV to low.
Will any of the new vocalizations be used in the Stronghold beta on Tuesday? I wasn’t able to do the Closed Beta thanks to the bug with the portals so I haven’t heard the male voice myself yet. But if it’s enabled in Stronghold I can go on a human male for a round and listen for it to give some feedback.
That assumes that North re-read any of the base skill shouts, that is. If the new stuff is all only in Heart of Maguuma, I obviously won’t hear any difference
I’d give a thumbs up but can’t on a Question post. So consider it virtually done.
I’m glad you’re having so much fun and I hope you keep up the exuberant posts.
I looked at the sample — I’d suggest slipping in an Environment 5 so you can show one typical for each race.
I do have Skype though I’m very clumsy with it. Once we’re set to film I’ll let you know my info for it.
Also I’m already on TC — have been since beta — so if need be you can taxi on me and hope that I’m in a map instance with a lot of TC people in it. Though if you want WvW shots yeah, you’ll want to transfer first.
In the maps you won’t lose anything except having to get to the WPs again.
Storywise, if you only do LS2 on one alt you’ll be missing out on easy collection of a number of carapace armor pieces since several of the chapters let you get the armor box every time a new alt completes the chapter and you can pick an armor weight you haven’t unlocked yet.
If you want Luminescent armor, you’ll have to go back through the story on alts that did it story mode so you can do the achievements; those only unlock on alts that have done story.
I had to check that FinalPatriot wasn’t me, because every word in his/her post also applies to me. I met a very good friend by signing up as an extra for a WoW video he was making
I have Mumble (and TS, but I seldom use the latter) for coordination. I’m available most of the time in the afternoons and evenings (Eastern) except Tuesdays.
I take direction well, I don’t mind if I end up on the cutting room floor, and I’d love to help out with this.
Check https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Post-a-pic-of-your-character-only-if-your-armor-is-mix-n-match/page/43#post5098131 to see a sample of my alts — I have several more that weren’t mix and match armors, and everyone has a variety of armor/outfit options and most every dye.
Let me know if I can help with this!
PS I am on NA so if you’re EU I cannot help after all.
I’ve used it to great effect! The main thing to watch out for if snipping from the game itself is that there’s a short delay between clicking the tool and freezing the image, so if you have things moving (blinking eyes, idle animations, drawn weapons getting sheathed, pink mohawked charrs running across the field behind you) you might end up with a shot you didn’t want.
Again, it’s not a gameplay issue, it’s not a clipping issue, it’s a technical issue that completely bars this from happening.
/mutters about googling up all the threads and submitting a list for merging
You want to search for threads about mixing armor weights, not wardrobe skins, and you’ll find oodles of discussion of it and why it cannot be done. Not shouldn’t, not would take some work, literally cannot be done.
Short short short form: The three weights are all on different animation “skeletons” that not only won’t fit together, they’ll cause huge graphics glitches if you try.
… ok, it could be done. If they designed new software and completely remade every piece of armor to fit the new system, with only the general look of the pieces retained (though they wouldn’t transfer the art, they’d redraw it). That’s an enormous amount of man hours that they need for other game development purposes.
It’s regrettable that in early game design they rigged the armors that way, but now it’s embedded deeply and must be lived with.
Looks like no reveal at all this week. Tuesday will be another Stronghold Beta though.
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/join-us-for-a-stronghold-pvp-public-beta/
That’s so nice of you! Have you linked it in guildwars2roleplayers.com? They have a lot of profiles and such there but are not a site dedicated purely to character description.
I miss this from old LA:
“You’re wasting your time. Nothing ever happens in the suburbs.” After a few guild induction gatherings at that tavern, that line became a running gag for us.
And I didn’t think much of it for a bit, it was just a line, until a guildie confessed she always tried to come up with endings for the bandit’s death cry of:
“Now I’ll never ….”
The only thing that annoys me about voices is that there seems to be a glitch that the critical hit voices trigger when YOU get hit instead of the other way around, making the dialogue hilarious!
So that’s why Donari’s going “Oh THAT had to hurt!” when he’s punched …
In the short run the stats may help you but very soon you won’t need them for the stats any more. So I’m glad you got a look you like.
Screenshots:
Easiest: Hit “Print Screen” on your keyboard. That will send a screenshot to C: > Users > Your Name > My Documents > Guild Wars 2 > Screens. (I assume you are a PC Windows user in this, I have no knowledge of Macs). It is possible it fills up at 999 screenshots so you may want to periodically transfer out your screens.
More Elaborate: You can keybind a UI toggle so you get rid of your chat box and XP bar and skills bar etc for purposes of your picture. I put mine on F11 so it’s near Print Screen for rapid toggleUIoff-snap picture-getUIback moves.
Extra Credit: If you bring up your options panel you’ll see camera settings towards the bottom. Shrink the FoV, use camera offsets, etc, and you can get very close pictures. You can also skip taking a full screenshot if you use the Windows Snipping Tool, which lets you quickly freeze your monitor’s image and crop out a section to save in a folder of your choice. That will not be as large or hi-res a file, of course. Or you can go to your screenshots folder and Snip and rename the good parts of the shots you want to share.
To upload to this forum:
Click the “More posting and formatting options” button below your text. It will let you upload an image, with a Browse button to pick what you want to use. “Preview” will let you see your post with that image, and you can add more images by repeating the process. This is where the Snip version is handy, as they are smaller and easier to process.
Welcome to Tyria
Hopefully this won’t be a concern but you might want to wait until they answer the question of whether purchase of HoT will include a character slot. I can imagine the possibility of the software going nuts trying to add a slot to a hard-capped account.
At least make sure to only have 63 slots until you know for sure.
Thus far it’s some really cool fan creations and a peek at what Ms. Cox does for the company, with a nugget about future distribution of armors/outfits.
I went to Twitch to see if they had one of their “Next Episode” splashes but they have a streamer playing the game and I’m not a Twitch expert so I don’t know how to check whether there is a Points of Interest tomorrow.
You actually can get some closeups now, though you may have to fiddle with toggling character height camera on/off and zoom your FoV way down and choose your vertical/horizontal offset and possibly stand on an edge of something if you want to see your feet. So it’s not on-the-fly.
(And because I cannot resist: play an asura, adjust camera to character height, go into first person face to face with a Norn. You should get a great shot of their fly).
Hey, I think it’s a valid complaint not to want to be ordered about by mice and talking cabbages.
Even when I mostly am mice and talking cabbages.
Who cares if we get info on a specialisation that could and will probably be changed before launch anyway.
Those of us trying to give them player feedback on the specialization concepts and implementation care. They are doing the reveals partly to hype us, yes, but they are also paying attention to the constructive commentary we provide.
Even if you don’t want to help shape the final version, some things are definite in the reveals such as what weapons the specs will get, so you can start figuring out the best skin for your character to use for it.
If you look at the News page (left hand tab, top left of this page), they’ve just put up a behind the scenes look at Ms. Cox’s role at ANet. This line seems relevant to the discussion in this thread:
“For example, armor sets are now exclusively designed as in-game rewards while outfits are primarily Gem Store offerings.”
I’ve been wondering this myself. I hope she’s ok. Maybe she’s gone off way early to the E3 area so she can tourist around a while? Or doing some other sort of vacation?
I’d suggest you hold off on further PS steps until the fix comes in. There are more changes than just the order of the story. Some steps will be restored, some dialogue tweaked, and perhaps most importantly they’ll start using the old maps pre-destruction for PS steps that happen in places like LA. So it’ll be your chance to see the past.
I never really started, though I did run around with guildies in it for a while (my first time in might have been the most fun, when I and a friend got stranded on a section of wall with those to either side destroyed, and fired down into the invaders for an epic last stand). I did my first world completion while joining in the fighting.
But by my second one I just wanted to skirt the edges and not get involved. It’s not surprising. I have never really had fun playing where other players can come attack me if they feel like it, nor do I really want to slay anyone else. The tension involved wears me out fairly quickly.
Then they introduced the seasons, and the rewards for being in a world that did really well … and I realized that while I liked the rewards (minis and weapon skins), I didn’t like them enough to spend that much time with people gunning for me. Plus by then players had learned the strategies and had a lot of shorthand commands in Map Chat that I didn’t understand. If I asked “where should I put this piece of siege I have?” I’d get no response until I finally dropped it somewhere that looked good only to be told I’d goofed up.
WvW is about as close as PvP comes to being fun for me (Dragonball more so, actually). But I’m not very competitive by nature, I don’t need to beat up other people. And I sure don’t need to have my gut clench and my neck go tight just running through a map. So I drifted away, never really hooked on it.
Hedge Knight
While it’s just a brainstorm and I don’t think it would actually work for the elite spec, I want to nominate this as one of the best puns ever especially as it refers back to mythic Arthurian culture. It’s layered.
Now I need to make a sylvari who describes him/herself as a hedge knight.
-snip-
the skill/trait unlock system was a bit confusing to most people. I think new and some old players will be turned off by it and the whole grind to unlock the skills/traits. it was just too long of a grind and really didn’t get time to enjoy the benefits of the work put in.
-snip-I understand yall only let us play with one class for this test. but it was a bit of a let down not to be able to play with new prof., I for one was and am drooling to check out the new Mesmer skills!
the ele was a let down with the whole pistol thing. it makes no sence. a sword is what everyone was expecting and hoping for…..hint hint elemental sword skin from gw would be awesome
snip
You weren’t seeing the skill and trait unlock, you were seeing the mastery unlock. While it might indeed be slow and in need of tweaking to feel less of a grind, it is account wide and meant to take some time to max.
This test was to evaluate the day/night event cycle and make sure the events were stable, not to examine professions. They probably can’t have people test even the revealed professions while the old skill/trait system is in play because they aren’t built using the old system.
Also, um, what? Ele pistol? First I’ve heard of this. There has been no Tempest reveal beyond the spec’s name. Please explain what makes you think Ele is getting pistol rather than sword.
My feeling is that movies based on games tend to be lower quality when judged on their own merits without a linked interest in the source material. I also feel this about novels based on games or media, btw — as a youth I read a ton of Star Trek novels but only one or two had their own artistic value. It’s not that good stories can’t be told using an established setting, it’s that they don’t tend to be especially given the constraints on sticking to canon down to little character quirks. Woe betide the creative person who takes liberties with the source in order to tell a more tightly plotted tale!
Beyond that, WoW’s been talking about the movie for years. I think the project fell through once or twice before it finally took hold. GW2 just hasn’t been around long enough or made enough money on a corporate scale to attract serious movie studios.
