Yes, I understood that. You will still be level 80, regardless of how you got to 80. Sorry, when I said “crafting levels” I meant “levels from crafting” not “crafting skill levels.”

Kamara, are you talking about buying traits with gold? Because the leveling you got from crafting will still be there, along with the 400 HP you’ll get from being 80. You’ll have enough for two or three builds even if you never touch a skill challenge. Thus your crafting levels won’t be trashed at all.

When Will ArenaNet Allow Saving Names?

Remembering isn’t the issue. I have a Word document listing all pet names, including some IC mini names for reference during RP., and I can bring that up on a second monitor The issue is having the name reset so you can’t quickly swap around between pets without ending up with Juvenile Whatever roaming at your side if you’re pressed for time.

It’s a QoL thing.

Huh. Why not make that a client-side thing? Rather than keep a names database, have a short routine that checks the player’s pet name list saved in their client and applies the one saved for that pet when the pet is summoned into the two “live” pet slots.

That doesn’t seem like it would allow any hacking since players already can put whatever name in (as long as SEQL or whatever doesn’t get compromised, sorry, not a programmer), it would just automate the process for the player.

We’ve had a dev response much more recently than a year ago. Just in the last few months they said they agree build templates are a worthwhile idea, but they aren’t doing them as part of HoT. Probably they just didn’t have the resources to do that along with all the other work.

This is a known issue, check the stickies. The yellow text at the bottom about another player sending it, not ANet, is the best clue. Then there are grammar and punctuation issues, and a request to click a link when links cannot be embedded in in-game mail.

Thank you for trying to warn people, and since we see another such warning every day or two maybe some people are falling for it or are close enough to falling for it that they feel others would. But it is recommended that you check the stickies and do a google search to see if you’ve actually found a new issue before you panic too much.

In the twitter comments one guy said he had a sudden urge to go make sculpture out of old circuit boards.

I’m hoping we get a variety of architectural style choices. That concept art looks like something we’d get from the Golden City deep in Maguuma. While my guild could RP a reason to move into something like that — maybe setting up a forward base for treasure hunting expeditions? — it’s not quite how we would choose to set things up for our guild theme.

I am so sorry for your loss. Add my voice to the support for your entirely reasonable request. At first glance I thought it was another “put something in the game for us” thread and then I realized it was actually an inspired idea to add to the customization of guild halls. With enough flexibility it can have so many uses beyond memorials while still offering the chance for a guild to remember those lost.

Perhaps there should be tiered access to altering it, so a guild can decide if only the leader gets to inscribe a permanent memorial or if it’s more of an ongoing bulletin board for members to post current matters.

Why is the RP crowd so closed off?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Donari.5237

Donari.5237

The megaserver was the biggest impetus to “closing off.” Though even now there’s plenty of RP in DR, the Grove, and Rata Sum (it might help me that I’m on Tarnished Coast and there has been some improvement in the megaserver’s ability to stick me in maps with other TC people). There may well be in Hoelbrak and the Black Citadel as well, but I don’t spend so much time there.

Soon after the megaserver’s debut, however, it was nearly impossible to get large groups of RPers together without a lot of taxi work. Even then a lot of griefers and trolls showed up, so put out by us daring to be creative that they had to aoe the crap out of us, toss in their own pornographic commentary, dance naked in the middle of serious discussions, etc (none of which is creative at all, it’s been the anti-rp tool of choice for, well, tools, since the dawn of MMO’s).

So until trust is gained that you’re not out to ruin someone’s fun, people are likely to edge slowly away from strangers so they can keep on playing with proven decent folks.

If you want to find RPers, check the cities, just lurk and listen for a bit to find those who do it in the style you prefer, then approach them — either by adding your own RP non-intrusively to theirs where it makes sense or by OOC contact to ask if you may join — and see if that works. Also you can go to the LFG part of the forums, or check out sites like guildwars2roleplayers.com for RP guilds.

For someone who really “does not game” as in “does not start games on his PC”, a GTX960 is already overkill. He could have just bought a GTX750 for half the price, which would also have consumed only half the power and help save even more money.

You’re missing the full story He also bought a super fancy HD monitor and needed a card that could drive that. The monitor will transfer to his fancier rig when he buys that in a couple of months, as might the card, and then he’ll be using what he has for a long time since he doesn’t upgrade often, so he wanted something good and solid to last. As to the power, this could be misinformation but the Micro Center counter guy said that the tech has evolved so the 900 series uses less power than the 700’s.

I’m trying to get him to try out GW2 the next time it’s on sale for 10 bucks (hopefully it will be) now that he has a machine able to handle it. Or at least Witcher 3, since he’s not big on MMO play.

Priory or Whispers (I admit it's dumb)?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Donari.5237

Donari.5237

I have several alts in each Order. I pick first based on what makes RP sense for the alt, and if none do, I pick one I haven’t done in a while.

I wouldn’t suggest doing the exact same one again if you haven’t tried all three. Whispers is generally the most fun, true, but there’s something to be gained from all of them.

Plus once you’re in an Order you have access to the skins for that Order, and when you buy them they go into your wardrobe. All your alts can wear any of the skins in their armor weight, even mix and match between Orders. So you do want at least one alt in each to get full access to as many skins as possible.

I can’t give a good tech answer. But yesterday I found out something interesting.

My husband and I headed over to Micro Center so he could get some bits and pieces to upgrade his really old PC. He doesn’t game and has been fine with bare bones for a long time. He picked up a GTX 960 to tide things over until the really new stuff comes out in a couple of months. I said that once he got his for real full new PC maybe I’d want the 960 to replace my GTX 780, even though I’m doing fine on High settings as it is.

But we looked at the Tom’s Hardware GPU Hierarchy chart, and my 780 is still two tiers better than the 960. A top end previous-series card outdoes a current mid-range one! So research actual performance rather than believing higher numbers equal better in all cases.

That’s an interesting idea, glehmann. I’d suggest that the available Challenges for selection be those in the starter areas. Or, better, that the WvW player doesn’t get to choose which one opens, it’s just the next one in a sequence starting with the easiest ones to get in PvE, allowing for any they’ve done in person. Otherwise they’d be nabbing all the ones in Orr to save going there later if they decide to do PvE challenges after all.

People more interested in precise numbers than me have opined you can get better stats out of them than out of 80’s, depending on what you insert in the upgrade slot. As they are significantly cheaper to make than a lot of level 80 backs, it’s probably a balance issue.

All three of those are quite fun. Like you I didn’t care for Guardian in concept. Armored knights just weren’t my thing in other MMOs. Then I made one, traited her to full defense/heal, and had a blast (it may help that my first main was a Thief, for RP reasons, and the sense of invulnerability the Guardian had was intoxicating after all those dirt naps).

Definitely give that one a go, and test a couple of builds. They can go from aggressive dps to no dps but never dying based on how you set them up.

Mesmer is my favorite. But that’s with all traits available; all three of mine leveled under the old system. I’ve heard others say it’s a nightmare to make them work until you’ve got the traits. I don’t find them that complex, though. Basically you create clones and phantasms to suit your needs, and shatter them on your opponent when appropriate, then make more. You have 4 types of shatter, each with its own effect. The mental shift needed is to not think of the clones and phantasms as minions, but rather as persistent spells you can dispel at will with bonus effects.

Necromancer: All of mine are mostly for RP, but they do have a lot of staying-alive tricks. The finesse with a necro comes with death shroud and conditions management.

Also of note: Interestingly, you’ve picked the three professions for which we know what the Elite will be come HoT. There are videos of the live stream reveals of those, so you can see what you might be working towards and decide which one appeals most.

Short form: Guardian becomes Dragonhunter, gets a longbow, and sets traps (more like wards, really) that have interesting visuals and effects. Mesmer becomes Chronomancer, gets a shield, and can slow down opponents, speed up friends, and even reset time a few seconds. Necromancer becomes Reaper, gets a longsword, and turns into a slow but deadly close-quarters spin-to-win roflcopter.

“Hoping to find good drops.” Well, a precursor might drop. None has for me in nearly 3 years of play, but it can happen! If you get any orange text weapon from any source, look at it very carefully. The tooltip will have a line near the bottom saying “this is used as a precursor for x item.” Some of those are worth more gold than most players ever have in their bank.

This may change once we know more about how to craft precursors in the expansion. For now, other than a super rare item out of a black lion chest (for which keys are hard to come by without investing real cash or a lot of time), that’s the only really exciting drop you’re going to find.

… speaking of keys, if you like to grind, maybe you should read up on key farming. It involves creating an alt, running it through levels quickly, and doing the first set of Personal Story instances at level 20. Each time you do that you get a key to open a chest, the chests are fairly cheap on the Trading Post if none have dropped for you, and while you can reliably expect to get untradeable junk items there might be something valuable in the chest. It’s a gamble, but hey. All you’ve lost is some time playing if you key farm.

I’m going to guess you don’t already have it. I’ve seen reports from people that the package is much less in price than that, and it turns out they only had 2 chapters locked to buy; it scales based on how many you still have locked.

A way to check would be to log in to game on any level 80 alt and go to your Personal Story tab on your Hero Panel. If the Season Two stuff shows up there as available to activate, you have it.

Also, when did you buy the Deluxe? The package deal is fairly recent, you should be able to google when it debuted. If you bought your Deluxe before then, it’s certainly not included. (And now that I think about it, what did your Deluxe say was included? I’d think it would have mentioned an LS2 package as one of the goodies if it came with that).

Anything other than the moon was mostly obscured. In Queensdale near the monastery I was able to spot something that might be a nebula seen through thin clouds, or else was just a lower cloud. Nowhere else did I see hide nor hair of them besides Frostgorge. So they could have been there all along and you only just noticed them and thought they were new since in most maps you don’t see them.

Others have given fine answers. I’ll just add that “grinding mobs” is a horrible way to spend your time here if you are doing it for XP. It’s about the lowest source of XP there is. Now, you might get some mats to sell or craft with, you’ll advance your various mob slayer achievements, but those things are better done in tandem with other activities rather than just hacking down creatures.

Speaking of crafting, it’s a good source of XP, not a good source of income or at-level gear as a rule. The big thing that catches most new crafters is the assumption that you will do well if you make a lot of the same item. Nope! You get much more XP and craft-skill-progress by discovering new recipes in the Discovery tab.

I’d vote Guardian. It needs to dodge the least, if you use the various aegis and other blocking skills. Bear in mind, however, that dodging is an integral part of this game’s combat. You don’t have to kite, but you do have to evade the big hits. No GW2 profession has nearly the rotation of WoW classes, because what skill you use when is situationally determined.

Guardian won’t be nearly as dps-y as a Warrior but may survive better and generally it’s easier to buff others as a Guardian. I can’t advise on PvP utility but I hear things about the “meditation Guardian meta” for PvP. I know I used my very defense/support Guardian in my one and only SPvP match, the first Stronghold beta, and did pretty darn well escorting the skritt bombers. Since you gear and trait separately for PvP and for PvE and the game auto-loads the appropriate one, you needn’t worry about swapping things around as you shuffle back and forth.

Nope, SkyShroud. It means it will not be 100% skilled. Just being level 80 is “enough for several builds” per the devs. Check the skill calculators on Dulfy’s site to decide which ones you want most (bearing in mind the current values are possibly not the final ones) and then you can spend your points just on those. You get 400 points from being 80. You just need 65 skill challenges done to max out everything but Elite, and Elite isn’t coming until HoT so there’s still time.

But … the current skills and traits won’t exist. They’re all getting changed and moved around. The compensation will be that you get the new ones instead. You might have to think a bit on how to pick your traits to get the same effect of your build — the devs said they want to let you still be a style of build even if you have to achieve it differently, and they have a thread somewhere asking for people to list builds that cannot be duplicated. Not exactly the same but if you’re a bunker you should still be able to be a bunker, if you’re a glass cannon that should still be available, etc.
