Hopefully not every encounter will be like the Vale Guardian. I realized that all the nifty new drops we’re getting for collections tend to have toughness on them. It took some juggling to kit out for our recent attempt at the Vale Guardian (we’re not cutting edge raiders, m’kay?) so that our tank would have the most toughness without the rest of us sacrificing our builds and gear. I mean, it is really nice to have such a clear and obvious mechanic, it makes it simple to designate a tank … but then they shouldn’t be piling a tank aggro-pulling stat on every single thing we get in HoT.
Whoops, I didn’t realize the bug was here, I left it unfixed while I browsed elsewhere, sorry.
What price in gems for working forums?
The day Anet releases a mini job-o-tron/hobo-tron/hero-tron I will be extremely happy
I thought there was one as a PvP reward but I don’t see it in the wiki. I can only find Ho-Ho-Tron with all the lights.
Please change your title since your spoiler is entirely in the title itself, not in your post.
As to the question, they can probably find another administrative general to chain to a desk while the Commander keeps gadding about.
The design is all about the slow glide down. They don’t want full flight in the game. Wouldn’t it let people access places not designed to be reached? Same way gliding at all in core maps would be a technical nightmare?
I like it as it is; once you have Gliding 4 you won’t fall out of the sky due to endurance failing and you can generally find updrafts to get more height.
The guy taking over legendary design says he doesn’t want to gate the collections behind must-fail events. However, fixing things will take some coding effort so it won’t happen in a super short time. Check

for details and for a place to post specifics of events that are blocking you.
Having played a game that really harms you on dead, I never log out in unsave places
Fair enough, but that doesn’t help you if you run up all alive and healthy to the Activity NPC in LA, join the activity, and are dead when you load in.
It doesn’t bother me in Southsun since you get scavenging achieve points for picking up blue motes as a wisp and I can usually nab enough motes to drop a couple of pickpocket traps on still alive players. And I’m only there to get the daily anyway. Sanctum Sprint is the only activity I can be persuaded to go in just for the fun of the game.
If you’re playing Southsun for fun, then just stick around once the first match is over. You will be in at the start of the next match and alive.
I completely agree that there needed to be a challenge mote for that one; it’s already one of the hardest, if not the hardest achieve in LS2.
One hint for those still trying to do it: You can disable the sepia by turning off post-processing in your graphics options. This is also handy if you want to see old LA in full color in first season PS. And if you are using the aviator effects, you can undo the sepia there, or do the “low” setting to get a nifty colorized version of the world.
I don’t know, mine came while I was doing something else and wasn’t going for that collection. I think it came out of the Filtering Saurians part of an early Pact Encampment daylight event in VB in the first few days of HoT.
The thing is there seem to be some that just don’t drop until you’ve killed dozens if not hundreds of the dropping mob. I still don’t have my dust mite item even after doing search and destroy on dust mites in DT and VB for a while, nor the tiger item. My tengu feather for Bo took far too much tengu farming in AB. But I think I got all my other items very quickly, often in the first 1-3 kills. So likely it’s just RNGing at you and you’ll have to slog through the smokescales until it finally drops.
Maybe if you zoom to first person view you can get close enough to click an edge of the chest? I’ve never seen a player-placed object that could completely obscure an environmental object, though having it up against a wall there doesn’t help.
“Next NPC” is the easiest if you have a spare keybind, however.
Could it be at the asura that shows up to be the jukebox? He headed off to a corner of our tavern away from the barkeep (Lost Precipice, Tavern 1). He or the barkeep should be the place to upgrade to further music. If not, could be a bug.
Well, they aren’t. They’re bottlenecking everyone, WvW or PvE, into playing on the alt they want to raise up. At least they aren’t making us do the full collections of the elite weapons on the alts that will use them, hmm?
But hero challenges are character specific in PvE, so they are specific in WvW as well. We PvE’ers don’t get to zip around to the HP challenges on one favorite alt churning out elites for our other alts either, y’know.
At least with the three we have we can see the pattern of what will be needed for them. It looks like a couple of Gifts are universal. So one can stock up and be ready for when the specialized parts of the collections appear.
I have yet to make any legendary. I’m toying with HOPE as a project, but do want to see what else is out there. Meanwhile I can work on Gifts (got my 4 maps explored one ready now), once I finish Nightfury because if I can’t finish that then I know I won’t be bothered with the greater collection involved in a legendary.
The point is that more will come to those who wait, and perhaps be a bit smoother in precursor journey design now that a number of flaws and bugs have come to light in the first set.
Thanks for the update on the wager. I still love the Precipice for the open air and sunlight more than the closed off gloom of the Hollow. But I’m with the others: the turned off updrafts are, indeed, a big turn off.
I do hope this is one of the things coming in the patch fixes in the near future.

Looks like that unlocks the collection. Then you need to buy the skins to complete the collection.
Do you have the collections unlocked? It’s the “Collectibles” tab. I don’t know what unlocks the recipes but I do know I can only buy, eg, backplate pieces if I’ve done the story to unlock that backplate item.
I could bring up and copy paste a lot of links but I’ll give an image instead. The very short answer is it adds scamming and removes an economy-controlling gold sink.
That is cool, yes. It’s been in since the beginning. If you walk through that spot on an alt that has been to Claw Island, you get called out based on your Order affiliation. Just once per alt.
I’m not super good, but here’s how I divide it:
Mouse — naga HEX on which I use buttons 4, 5, 6 for strafe left, back up, strafe right. Hold LMB and RMB down together for forward motion, steer with left and right twitches (mouse sensitivity very high, I don’t have to move the mouse far to get full motion).
Keyboard — pretty much default, though I’ve remapped various menu keys to match what I’m used to from other games. I haven’t found a great place for the dodge key though usually having it on B works for me in all but the most split second needs, the keys closer to the number keys being dedicated to other functions.
This setup makes timed jp’s difficult for me as I do need to adjust my mouse position on the pad from time to time, and mouse moving means my cursor isn’t always over my foe for ground targeting, but with my small hands and slower reflexes I can’t deal with constant combo key use other than CTRL-T for setting a target. I need to just hit one key at a time with my left hand in combat and to be able to find the right key when I need it without looking with more than peripheral vision. WASD won’t work for me, especially not if I also need to hit ability keys.
Oh, for my birthday I got a Chroma mechanical keyboard and have set the colors of the keys when in game to vastly aid in that peripheral vision. Love it!
About the Crude Drawing — don’t delete it if you’re getting rid of it, double click it to get a hunk of karma. I would hold onto the Wintersday items until Wintersday starts a week from Tuesday to make sure they don’t have a use this year.
Totally dump the paper scraps, though. They are to complete a heart in north Gendarren and more can be gained by working on the heart if you haven’t done it yet. Or just go to the heart vendor to turn in the ones you have to save a minute or two of completion time later.
Is it night time when you click it? As in, game night time, not RL night? When the Sylvari glow and the Ascalon weapons turn blue?
I mean you probably checked that too, but as you didn’t mention it in your post …
Assuming day/night is on a global in game cycle now, you can check the VB timer for when it will be night.
That’s lovely! Very nice production values and “translations” of foodstuffs.
I have a friend that does the Great Tree Flax Farm and on the way to that there are two chests side by side that he opens. He says he’s gotten five or six rare reclaimeds out of those chests (in a couple of weeks of daily runs with several alts, so it’s not a huge chance).
I haven’t been doing that particular chest run, just opening what chests I see here and there. So far I’ve had one plate drop per elite collection and had to buy the other two via rares on the TP for the weapon, out of two elite weapons collected. (ok, I am not quite at two, because I need more aurillium for the exalted part and one more DS run to get the machined part for Dark Harvest, but the plated needs are met).
Sadly, this is the outfit that broke my plan to collect them all. Random jumbles of spikes, bones, and rags all with rough edges simply do not fit my aesthetic. I previewed it on a number of race/gender combos and couldn’t close the window fast enough.
I buy more gems than I should as it is. I’m simply not going to toss one cent at this outfit. More power to those who like it, as I am sure some do. May they enjoy using it.
Maybe you meant Wintersbite, Lillith? I’m not sure if that set has a rifle. It’s the first Wintersday set from 2012, made of brown wood with bright big snowflakes animated, as opposed to last year’s set of steel and blue and snowglobes.
For those who have been asking all year for it, please go look in the gem store. The Grenth Hood is there now. Please buy it so you don’t have to ask for another year due to not realizing it was actually there for a while.
Thanks for a clearly presented video of them all, at least in preview form. I was hoping Dulfy had video of them in action, though her lack suggests they don’t do anything special in terms of animation or sound.
I agree with Argon. The only wielding issues I see are with the giant blade on the pistol and with all the spikes on the rifle right where your off hand would support for aiming. I’ve chosen the 4 I’m getting, but will wait a day or two to be sure of my choices. Gotta be certain I want to pass on Wintersbite again
There is one, look again. I just previewed them all.
Though I did so from Wardrobe, not vendor … is it actually missing from the vendor list?
Hopefully they’ve tracked down the issue that prevented Mad King stuff from giving mastery XP and we’ll be able to feel we are progressing when we toss snowballs at our friends.
Now, I looove the greatsword. It’s the pistol I find ridiculous. Tastes vary!
I believe I’ll be getting mace, gs, focus, and scepter. Not that I have any mace users atm but that skin is too perfect.
They’re gorgeous. Really solidly made and they all look real. I’m glad I saved and didn’t spend tickets on Plasma, now I can get 4 of these lovelies.
Has anyone gotten the whip focus or the rifle? Do they do anything unusual when wielded, animation or sound wise?
I have never had the GWAMM title by fair means or foul, though I do have a linked GW1 account and have done enough to get 3 or 4 HoM points. Back when that bug gave the title to a zillion new alts I carefully avoided doing anything that would give me the title, then waited for them to fix the issue. Which they did, and they sent out letters to those affected. And to those not affected, too, including me.
I just logged in and look what we have here (I’m not bothered by it, but I do think ANet will want to know something’s triggering it; I include enough of the UI to demonstrate that this is in fact a new letter):
Even easier, if you have Nuhoch Wallows, is to take the wallows that is in the large flat brown area ne of the Pact camp wp in VB. It deposits you right next to a place of power with no aggro or acrobatics involved. I used that for my oiled ancient staff head and will use it for my greatsword next.
I’m always happy to aid with such things if I’m around and not otherwise committed. Feel free to ask me. I’m eastern time, generally around afternoons and evenings.
Gewd, I assume the people porting in already have updraft mastery? Because that’s the only way other than wp’g to get out of that hall’s entry and into the rest of the map.
I’d say do that and then run east to the starting wp and follow the guide as it stands. It’s not that long a run (should be much less time than doing the story) and it unfogs map areas and offers plants and ore along the way.
No they don’t. I’ve helped claim a couple of halls and we had PuGs along that weren’t in the guild. They need to be partied with someone who goes in the instance first, then when they go in they are offered the option of going to that guild (so make sure your PuGs know the guild tag to select from the dropdown list).
If you’re NA and I’m available at your chosen claiming time, let me know. I’d be glad to aid in either hall.
Ugh… been trying every way I know of to post a pic. Any help? LOL

Below the text entry window you’ll see a “more options” link. Click that, then “Browse” under attachments. That brings up a window of your computer files, pick the one you want, boom, done. If you want multiple images, don’t click Reply, click Preview, and scroll down to Browse for the next one. Rinse and repeat.
As a bonus, the image gets loaded to this site’s cloud (and can be relinked as a shared image) without you having to go through TinyPic’s klutzy process.
I bet they are in the sections that will complete the rectangle of the map, and further map areas do seem likely to come via story additions.
I’ve recently discovered GW2BLTC thanks to Wanze’s thread. If you give it an API key it even syncs to what you already have and guides you to what you still need to buy (always double check, of course, eg it told me to buy one type of rare reclaimed weapon to salvage for plates but I found another type with lower buy orders). Very useful for complicated things like machined weapons or batwing shoulders.
I am fond of the leyline staff; I use it on my male human guardian (though he’ll be using the Wintersday Longbow once he’s a DH) and on my male asura necromancer.
I like leyline more than chaos for non-bladed weapons; the ley blades are unwieldy hunks of blunt rock that are (to me) ridiculous for edged weapons. Chaos is just really basic skins rendered into overbloom, so you need to like the underlying shape. It does stand out in a crowd, though.
I’ve heard there are foot pedal controls you can add to your computer though I have no idea how they work or how many commands they can handle. A gaming mouse with a ton of buttons, or one of those gaming number pad thingies, might be what you need if you can learn to use one.
I am so sorry about your arm. Burning is one of my worst nightmares even though the worst I’ve ever done was grab a 350 F degree cookie sheet out of the oven with my bare hand when distracted. That was excruciating pain that I still recall 25 years later. Your whole arm? Aieeee. I really hope you can find something to let you play the game and distract yourself.
what i expected:
a post about completely removing the server of Devona’s Rest and banning everyone on itwhat i got:
the same argument people have been having since releaseOne of these… has a future.
You missed one, Divinity’s Reach. The Queen might not have held enough Seraph back to defend DR, if it comes to that.
(And no, DR won’t go away while ANet continues to fight bots).
A very kind person invited me to guest in his guild for its somewhat more advanced services than my main guild’s managed so far. Today he got 10 crystals out of the synthesizer and /w’d me to remind me to come mine the node.
I goofed up and entered the hall while still repping my regular guild (I didn’t even know you could use the Enter Guild Hall button on a non-repped guild), didn’t realize, and mined the node. I got nothing, not even 3 copper ore. I facepalmed at myself, swapped reps, and the node was still used up.
I feel that if the node is meant to only provide ore/crystals to those actively repping, it should be fully disabled for those who are not, and become active once one is repping that hall’s guild. Obviously it still needs to screen for daily use so you can’t guild hop to mine it.
Go into your achievements panel and look for tabs with the red mastery point symbol. Dig down into each menu to find the individual achieves that give the mastery point. Any not yet achieved will be a source.
What is this push 6 people keep mentioning? Every time I have tried doing this all my buttons disappeared. No buttons to push.
Have you been trying to do this after it was disabled? I’d imagine disabling all skills, even the heal 6, would be their simplest way of preventing completion of the HP.
While it was active, you picked up the bacon. Your 6 skill became your eat skill. As soon as you ate, your health started to tick down but the same skill gave you 25% of your health back. The trick was to wait the right number of ticks, then hit your heal the moment you could each time so that at the end of the timer you wouldn’t be dead. For people with lag, this was fairly impossible unless a) a Chronomancer applied Alacrity to them so they could hit 6 more often and/or b) they put skill 6 on autocast before eating the bacon so the game would fire it off for them.
A or B or the reported mastery leveling via repeatedly using the HP are the most likely culprits for the “exploit” causing the HP shut down. Hopefully it’s the mastery leveling, as the other two just seem like clever uses of community and game mechanics to aid in beating a fairly devilish HP.
Well, don’t you get a base Toughness just from being level 80?
This is delightful. My alts will call blessings on your name each time they reach their elite.
What economist on the face of the planet would decide NOT to have a sale on Black Friday (the busiest shopping holiday of the year)?
Well, REI chose not to, electing to let their employees have a vacation. Granted, a gem store sale could likely be programmed to go off automatically and not need nearly so much human effort as manning a retail store, but apparently ANet isn’t the only one balking.
Also note they did tweet they’d be thanking us “this weekend” with things in the gem store, so the next two days could hold more than did today. The tweet was "We’re thankful for #GW2 players for being part of our journey–visit the gem store this weekend for thank-you gifts! "
I love this site: http://www.vikingsofbjornstad.com/Old_Norse_Dictionary_E2N.shtm
I pick a word meaning something related to the character, find the Old Norse version(s), and strip them of odd characters and mangle them to fit my personal aesthetic. So I have Ylfa Aetlaveidr (“she-wolf fated hunter”) and Myrkkili (“darkness/shadow killer/slayer”) for my ranger and reaper. Also Altdragg Splitstack for my engineer, but he’s for a game mechanic, not an Old Norse meaning
Myrkkili might get a last name some time, that’s just what I came up with in beta and she needs RP to see if there’s a better name for her.
