Ok, saw this and thought it was interesting, but I’ve got a second follow up question: Does mimic work with traits? Like having Mental Defense up, you mimic>block>iDefender will that also reset Mental Defense? Same question with Illusionary Inspiration.

Edit: Did a quick test. Mimic does not recharge Mental Defense’s iDefender, seems to only trigger when using the skill itself because it’s physically in the Utility slot, thus Mimic’s constraint of being “Utility skills”. [Thanks messiah for hitting/helping me.]

Our Robert Gee did specifically mention about the change to SoI to not affect F5 due to the reason it would otherwise have allowed quadruple casting powerful skills that is way too hard to balance. xD

Almost right. Try this.

Split-?-mimic-shift-SoI-split-?-mimic-shift…ad infinitum. Mimic puts a buff on you and then goes into cooldown, which means you can use it during split, revert to shift, activate SoI without a cooldown, and then do it again without ever stopping.

Signet of Illusions, who’s active was to recharge shatters, now only recharges the Mesmer’s core shatters, not Continuum Split from Chrono. Should it be made to affect all shatters?

Just to note, the glamour trait is less than useless with veil. It only applies superspeed and resistance to allies currently within the radius of the glamour when it gets created. Obviously, nobody is ever in the radius of veil when it gets created…so it’s absolute garbage.

Indeed, I do wish they’d bring out a glamour trait change that made sense.

Now, unsure if someone else pointed it out, but it could be cool if gyros could do anything you could interact with, such as looting and channeling [in Temple of the Silent Storm] and so forth.

And, while it would be a stretch, I’d love to see Gyros be able to interact with Conjured Weapons and “fuse” to become some sort of Flame/Lava/Ice/Magnetic/Lightning Gyro which has some altered effects.

Suggestion: Pace arrow in the Mesmer portal.

Feel like the drones won’t be AI, just little indicators on yourself that lets you activate some ability that involves them. And, hopefully, the traits will physically change the drones, as if your traits are just drone upgrades.

The greatsword looks like a lot of fun in this build, stacking slows and cripple like that could be pretty brutal.

One thing I noticed is that you’ve got no condition removal. With that in mind, I don’t think Protected Phantasms gives enough benefit compared to what Restorative Illusions could do for you. Also, Illusionary Inspiration may not be the best grandmaster option since this build doesn’t generate many boons. Mental Defense gives you a phantasm that may one day save your life or at the very least more illusions to shatter for Restorative Illusions or Distortion.

Hm, I was using Illusionary Inspiration more for the regen, though MD would be fine and would be cool to have 3 shield phantasms up at the same time (plus that shared retal), and I can see how Restorative Illusions would be better for the cleanse and heal.

The Inspiration line here is really flexible and you can change it however you want. There was nothing I wanted from the other lines, though the defense from Chaos wouldn’t be bad either.

A little weird build I thought up during my hiatus at college.

The Stroke, AKA Half-n-Half

This build is meant to support allies by halving your enemies’ abilities in half with conditions, slicing their movement with cripple and their attacks with slow, while at the same time dealing a good chunk of damage with constant crits. It is essentially a pseudo-lockdown which focuses on soft CC.

Weapons:
-Sword/Shield: The sword simply works well with good control and defensive options while the shield’s aggressive defense and double phantasm with slow is what puts the build together. Sigils are flexible.
-Greatsword: Imagined Burden changes the GS’s purpose to a very strong control weapon, its push and phantasm becoming even more impressive at keeping foes at bay while keeping up a steady stream of slow and might from a distance. Used a Hobbling Sigil to maximize cripple duration.

Traits
Domination: The Domination line was necessary for Imagined Burden to provide the cripple required. The other choices are flexible, but I went with boon-stripping and illusion-damage.

Inspiration: Thought some tankiness would be useful for a phantasm build and also wanted my phantasms to survive, so this was the obvious choice. Extra health and distortion is all fine and good, but I enjoy the Regen of Illusionary Inspiration being able to heal up fellow phantasms.

Chrono: All slow choices, meaning slow-on-rupt, 30% crit against slowed, and slow-on-fifth-crit.

Runes: Anything can really do, though I like Lich runes for the condition duration here.

Stats: Marauder, because precision and survivability.

I haven’t tested this because I’m away from my gaming computer at the moment and would love if someone could give it a go and give some feedback during the next beta weekend event~

At any rate, thoughts on the concept of this Soft-Lockdown Mesmer?

I have three ideas:
1. Hexes: Shatters now have weakened singular effects, but now do a three-pulse AoE effect around the target, creating an etherial field attached to the enemy which allies can activate finishers on.
2. Hijack Psyke: Shatters turn into special skills which now turn the enemies’ abilities on themselves. Mind Whack now strikes foes using their own power and crit stat, CoF now hits using the enemy’s own condi stat, Diversion now applies a unique buff on enemies which turns their next skill against them instead, meaning that the a small reflective barrier surrounds them and their attacks in either projectile or melee form are done unto themselves.
3. Nightmare: The mesmer can now create special illusions via shattering old ones which can only be seen by the target, but don’t actually take up any illusion slots. They are essentially “hallucinations” of the target.

I’m neither playing nor dying from it (I’m having a lot of fun and a bit of frustration with a chrono-bunker build). I just realize that GS AA would proc well while I know it is rather easy to land.

So please let’s keep this to actual player experience. Theory crafting on dummies doesn’t really help now does it? Asking for nerfs based on possibilities helps no one.

I did start this thread precisely to avoid bad nerfs. And the best way to avoid bad nerfs is not to claim everything is fine if it isn’t but putting the finger on the things that are a bit too strong and keep the rest.

The trait “Lost Time” is a tough one to balance. Slow is powerful, so this trait can be made OP or absolutely pointless very easily.

You should also avoid nerfs at all when they aren’t needed.

Let’s just cool down and not jump on the nerf train prematurely. If Chrono is OP, then we’ll think of something. If not, then no reason to give ANet unnecessary ideas.

Chronomancer is not OP. People are just dumb and impatient. Continuum Shift takes some considerable foresight and skill, thus the consequence for being able to perform very high reward combinations.

If you want to say it’s OP, then wait at least until the end of the beta weekend to say so or else you’re just dealing with a L2P issue since nobody freakin’ knows anything about it yet, so until people have fought multiple days worth of the elite specs we all have to L2P, no exception.

Tides of Time: Predicting the Future?

So I’ve been noticing some strange movements when using the new shield skill, Tides of Time. If you didn’t know, ToT basically sends out a mobile field in towards your target which stuns the enemies while quickening allies, then spins around and redirects back to your mesmer once its destination is reached. If you pass through it on the way back, it’ll give its own skill a reduction in cooldown.

What I’ve observed is that Tides of Time seems to be taking the mesmer’s current velocity into account when it redirects back, meaning that it isn’t aiming to where the mesmer is, but where he/she will be. If you’re running, it’ll aim for a little ahead of you so you’ll intersect. If you stand still, it’ll just aim right back at you.

Anyone else notice this? Was this mentioned and I just missed it? Thoughts on possible uses of this function beyond just getting that reliable CD reduction?

I’m a mesmer and… why freakin’ Harmonious Mantras? Why’d that need a nerf? Was that 4% on mantra use really that bad given that we had to actively make it happen? Sure, we might’ve been able to get 20% bonus for 7~8 seconds if we went full-mantra and blew them all at once, but… who freakin’ does that?

I mean, sure, mesmer needed a nerf, and I’m glad they fixed some stuff, but then there are other things that are just… nonsensical in this patch.

Just throwing this out there: Mesmers got an offhand and got Continuum as our mechanic change, a powerful time-manipulative shatter. I would not be surprised for Elementalists to be getting a 5th Attunement or an F5 of sorts.

What would be the point of PU’s double duration if you can’t make use of doubling your duration? More preferably, just adjust the duration PU increases rather than create some hidden cap. 25~75% increase instead should be good.

I am confused about your second sentence? How wouldn’t you be able to make use of the doubling?

If someones maxing their stealth potential, meaning 22~30 seconds, then they should be able to get the full amount from their maximization. If you’re wanting to decrease the amount of time someone can stay in stealth, its better to just reduce what PU gives instead, is what I’m saying.
