One thing I’ve always admired about this game was that most of the players in game have actually been really helpful and friendly,so anyone that is new to the game I don’t mind giving you a free hand if you have questions or are just looking for friends to play with!

New to Guild Wars.. Other girls that play?

Hi there, I don’t know if I’m putting this forum in the correct place, but I’m sure a moderator will tell me if it should be moved.. Alright, so I’m fairly new to Guild Wars 2 (less than a month) and I’m already lvl 80 on my Sylvarian Ele on the Crystal Desert server… And I’m a female gammer. I have no problem playing with males.. but of all the people that I have met, I haven’t met another female. I know this shouldn’t be an issue, but it would just be really nice to meet some other females that are into MMO games. Would love to hear some feedback and wondering if there are other girls out there that play.
Thanks!

Two of my friends recently got into the game, both of which are women. They found the style of the female models more appealing than in other moms. They like “pretty” characters, but also threatening ones. Warrior born barbarian lady FTW

I have always liked the core game but around this time last year starting with Flame and Frost things have been on a downhill slide.

I don’t care for LS/LW, for various reasons that I don’t want to get into and derail the topic. I keep waiting for more quality of life updates, like the account wallet and better skill/trait facts. I think there were grand plans for this game but they have been sidelined and a different approach was taken. I keep hoping that things will turn around but my optimism wanes.

Like I said, Rift had similar problems and it took a long time before it started to turn things around. Guild Wars 2 has a great foundation, it just has some issues to address.

Hope they enjoy it. Game can always use more players.

It’s got a pretty good population, I just never ahd any real life friends that played this game too. This game is meant to be played with friends xD

Same here. I don’t have any RL friends that play video games, because we’re all older now. lol.

I do have some friends from other MMOs though, and i’ve actually played GW2 with 2 of them so far. This game is more enjoyable with friends.

Yeah definitely, but even in most mmos I hate playing without my RL friends haha

I love Guild Wars 2, I think it’s a great game that me and my friends can play together. However, I do understand some of the criticisms, all games aren’t without flaws though. These sense of progression is vastly different here, it focuses much less on jut capping a character to get to “the good stuff” and focuses more on the journey and customization. personally, I think it’s a welcome change because it puts everyone on an even playing field and nobody has this insane advantage because they have this rare weapon. It’s more skill based.

I would definitely like to see some fixes in the future, but right now the game is well worth the money. A lot of people miss the familiarity because it isn’t the same, and it’s just nice to have an mom that tries new things. Probably in the future they will fix a lot of these common issues and it will just improve similar to how Rift’s progression during patches went.

My issue is fairly basic, I have a gem store code I wish to use someone got me for a late Christmas present that isn’t registering correctly. it’s been confirmed the code is still good, but for some reason it won’t register.

I need an admin to manually put the code in there to have the reward sent to my account. I sent an email that has all required information for my proof of ownership including the serial code and the gem store code.

What forum is that? I haven’t received a response yet.

When it’s abandoned from people trying to do events, it’s really hard to navigate in places and some events which remain up permanently cannot be handled alone to clear them out. It makes zone completion . . .

. . . difficult

Thats what kinda steered me away from Orr haha

Glad to hear about new players. Really hope they enjoy their time here and feel it’s worth the price of admission. Hope to hear neat stories about the two newbies and their guide.

As a reminder, please remember not to feed Tequatl after midnight.

Thanks! So far they’re really enjoying the game, we’re all college students so it’s nice to have an mmo we can dip in out of without bad que times and a whole lot of content to explore.

There’s a lot of content to explore, just don’t get discouraged. Three (assumedly) can do a good amount of open world content together until you reach Orr.

Thanks for the advice, even though I love this game, I’m aware of both the praise and criticism and told them about both ahead of time. They like that the game focuses more on the journey rather than just racing to the end.

It’s one of the things I enjoyed, too. (Except for Orr. I did not enjoy Orr. :P)

What was fun though from a Guild Wars veteran standpoint, was the nods in places to things not immediately apparent. The Ruins of Holy Demetria, for instance, was something which drew my attention. So was “Aurora Ruins” way out west.

You didn’t like Orr? Why? xD

Every now and then I’ll post screen caps of my character on Facebook and a couple of friends recently got really interested in trying the game.

So far, they’re really enjoying it. She made a norn because even though she likes to have a “pretty” character, she preferred the tribal tattoos and the more barbarian look of the female norn. Her friend kinda preferred the charr, so right now were just exploring and I’m showing them some of the content.

Are the Asura "evil"?

All jokes aside, I was watching a video on Youtube about the Asura lore when he said they really have no interest in being a part of other races and generally want to just take over everything. He also backed this up by saying their homeland is a floating cube as in it’s not part of Tyria.

I recently acquired a gem store code, but surprisingly this is the first one that is not working for reasons unknown. It seems to be a relatively easy issue to fix hopefully, but basically I have a code that the gem store is not recognizing.

A friend suggested I contact support and have them look at the code to verify it as it is valid, the gem store just won’t “read” it.

Please submit a ticket by clicking "Submit a request in the upper right-hand section of that linked page. The team will be able to assist you. Thank you, I sent a ticket yesterday morning that contains the information to validate my proof of ownership, but I haven’t yet received a response from support. I’m not sure how long it usually takes, possibly from all the Mr. Sparkles questions they may be swamped in this category as we speak.

After I saw a forum today talking about the green quaggan backpack, I was surprised to see that I never knew this was a special deal. Apparently there was an email sent out in December that tells players about the special offer so I went through my email to see if I maybe missed that email, but I only received email receipts and thus never knew about the deal.

It’s unfortunate because I would’ve loved to spend 800 gems as I like buying town clothes and recently bought the charr backpack. Am I too late?

DrDivine.5378

Can anyone explain the mini thing to me? I got this because of gem purchases but I’ve never used a mini. How do they work? Is it a one time only thing? Can you use it over and over? Like, I have 2 of one kind, account bound of course. Is the 2nd one any good? Is it bound to the character that opens it?

As far as I know they are account bound, can be used by any of your toons, they just follow you around and look cute, can be used over and over but will go home (storage) when you WP or change zones, or when you deposit collectables, not a lot of purpose other than the cute factor at the moment but that is JMHO

Oh yea…there are minis that are not account bound that you can get that can be bought and sold on the TP, there also is AP’s for completing a collection.

Is everyone supposed to get one? I’ve bought stuff from the gem store before and haven’t got one yet.

I find guild wars 2 blends art and animation perfectly. There are too many games out there that make high resolution models and make poor animations, like rift in my opinion.

Rift is a game I can appreciate, it’s just not the game for me. It’s got a really nice build when it comes to skills, I just can’t get into the world it’s conveying. It looks great, but I’m tired of playing as dwarves, elves and humans in fantasy mmos. It feels so generic and recycled that it becomes distracting to me.

Sorry for the late reply guys! Yeah after making my character a red sylvari I slowly started to notice how I never remember seeing many red sylvari characters. Maybe because it’s hard to find colors to choose from, I just now re dyed the armor for mine that you can see in the image below. Judging by the videos I’ve seen though, Guild Wars 2 seems to hold up as the best looking mmo. That’s just my opinion, I just love the art direction, it kind of reminds me of a painting.

After recently getting an actual gaming pc and being able to experience the game at max settings for the first times, this game is absolutely gorgeous and I tip my hat to the people in charge of the art direction.

I used to come from games like WoW and recently tried Rift, and I humbly respect both those games for what they’ve contributed as well. This is my own opinion, but Guild Wars 2 currently has my favorite visuals out of any mmo so far. Although graphics don’t make a good game, it’s really a treat for me to be able to play the game at max settings and appreciate a lot of the detail. xD

Yeah, this is also the case with female light Asura cultural t3… I do think it has to do with clipping, but it seems like an issue that has occurred for far too long.

I didn’t find out until today, which is a shame because there’s some shoulders I feel would go really nice with the chest piece. I’m hoping it will get fixed as I really want to use the shoulders I bought. xD

Chest armor makes shoulders invisible

DrDivine.5378

To be very specific, the chest piece “Orchid Coat of Hoelbrak” makes my shoulder armor invisible. This chest piece has wing-like leaves protruding from the back so I thought maybe this was done purposely due to clipping issues.

I found it strange though seeing as how making shoulders invisible is already an option, I had purchased some rare shoulders that matched the chest piece but it can’t be visible due to this bug so I can’t show off the shoulders I want to use. Any way to fix this?

Unique engineer turrets for Asura and Sylvari

in Suggestions

Posted by: DrDivine.5378

DrDivine.5378

This isn’t exactly on the list of things that are absolutely necessary, but it’s a thought.

I think it would pretty neat if the engineer class had turrets that were appropriate to the race you chose. A very common choice is Asura Engineer, but the turrets look much more charr made than Asura. Perhaps if the Asura could have a magitech turret. The Sylvari do already have a plant turret racial skill, but it would be cool to have the engineer turrets skinned to be plant related as well.

I wouldn’t be asking to reskin EVERY skill, but turrets seem to be a common choice.

Are the Norn unrealistically strong?

in Lore

Posted by: DrDivine.5378

DrDivine.5378

According to the norn, that actually wasn’t a 1v1 fight (otherwise why the hell would a small group of norn be unable to kill an Elder Dragon?). Aesgir was aided by the Spirits of the Wild and by an ancient jotun scroll – and the norn skaalds claim that Jormag killed thousands of norn in battle.

Besides, to use Aesgir’s situation would be to compare the feats of Adelbern or Khilbron to that of all humans and say because they did such all humans should be able to – or for Rytlock with charr, or for Snaff with asura (by your argument, then every asura should be capable of resisting mental ED corruption and wrestling an ED’s mind). Aesgir, just like Destiny’s Edge and the PC, are special cases.

And to your last point: not at all. Thanks to mechanics and balance, allied NPCs of any race must be weaker than the PC to make the game actually challenging for the player and not just a case of “afk while letting the NPCs do all the work” and PC norn must be equal in power to a PC human/asura/sylvari/charr without exception for equal balance.

Lore wise, norn are still just as strong – if not stronger – than their ancestors. It varies, of course, based on individual though.

Yeah when I talk about Norn strength, I don’t really look at the actual game mechanics as evidence because there has to be an even playing field. I don’t expect Anet to make a playable race that can throw an entire charr in game lol, I’m talking more about the actual lore.

I'm loving the sylvari race

in Sylvari

Posted by: DrDivine.5378

DrDivine.5378

I decided to (upon request of a good rl friend) begin playing this game, and I figured I’d begin with what seemed to be one of the more unique races to the game (though, other than humans, this game offers much more unique options than fantasy oriented standard MMOs). I agree entirely, I like their environment and overall story arc more than I thought I would, which I came in with pretty high expectations anyway. Totally in agreement re: Avatar too, even the references to the pale tree and the look of the Grove seem to be very akin to the aesthetics of that film.

Good it’s not just me that sees the similarities haha. It sounds harsh, but I really hate it when mmos give you races to play like elves, dwarves, etc. because it just feels unoriginal at this point. Warcraft and Skyrim are really the only games where I don’t mind elves and such.

Even though the races in general on this game feel more unique than standard mmos, the Sylvari I think are the most original and the most beautiful to look at both in character and environment design.

With elves being among the standard races in most fantasy games, it was definitely nice to have something that felt different.

I’ve had friends call them “tree elves” (lol) but after messing with customization and exploring the home world, I just really enjoy the overall art direction they went with making the race and their surroundings. It kind of reminds me Avatar, but I’m sure someone has said that before.

sword/shield any good?

in Warrior

Posted by: DrDivine.5378

DrDivine.5378

Usually I don’t like the warrior class in mmos, but it’s pretty fun in this game so I’ve been messing a little with different builds as I get more into PVP and WvW.

I currently use a GS and Hammer, but can a sword and shield be just as viable?

Are the Norn unrealistically strong?

in Lore

Posted by: DrDivine.5378

DrDivine.5378

Someone once told me that the Norn have unproportionate strength to their size and a single Norn can take out an entire warband. He also mentioned that in a part of the original story where every race was sending about 100 of their men to fight, the Norn only sent 10 due to being overpowered.

I’m kinda uneducated in the lore as I always picture the charr as the largest and strongest of the playable races, but it sounds like they may be second rate. Is this true?

So I made a charr and have been looking at the cultural armor since I have a lot of gold from my first character. The Tier 1 armor is already one of my favorite armors on the charr so far.

However, the tier 2 and 3 looked a bit underwhelming. They aren’t bad looking (tier 3 looks pretty awesome), but I like the really bulky armor that makes you look scarier. xD I’m going to mix and match armor sets, right now I have some of my favorite tier 1 pieces with HoM pieces. What do you think?

Building a house

in Suggestions

Posted by: DrDivine.5378

DrDivine.5378

I would be willing to pay real money for a fully customizable housing and guild hall system. Designing player houses and guild halls could be an entire new area of the endgame.

IMO, that was my favorite part of the SIMS franchise, the best DLC for Skyrim, and it’s one of the most appealing features of Wildstar.

Even better would be a commission system where players who are known for cool designs could trade their blueprints to other guilds and players.

Talk about a fun possibility for crafting!

That’s a good idea too! Having a house adds a new layer of game play that mixes things up quite a bit. In Skyrim, when I wanted a break from killing monsters, I could focus on simply finding things for my house and displaying items from past adventures. It’s nice to have a place that reminds you of what you accomplished.

Building a house

in Suggestions

Posted by: DrDivine.5378

DrDivine.5378

I would love some sort of house building or customising facility, it could be like the old guild halls were in gw1 (they were upgradable and could choose the area in which you wanted it) and armour display is a must for me, I have several different armors for each character but have nowhere to store them and am constantly afraid I will sell them by accident.

You could even have customisable instanced barracks when you join an order and the pact that would make those decision feel important.

My charr would love a little homestead in the shiverpeaks

It would be nice to have some kind of home or customizable building to show off your stuff such as armor and mini pets. I feel like having a home makes you feel like your character lives in this world rather than just disappearing when you log out. Sure, we do have home worlds for the races, but where do they live?

This might sound ridiculous, but I think it would be nice if players were allowed to have a small, customized house they could port to in the same fashion you port to the Hall of Monuments.

It would be cool to have a place where you could show off armor sets, minipets and other rare findings to other players. I think it would make the player feel more like they live in Tyria. It would also be an interesting to have things in your home such as an anvil or a place for cooking.

I purposely didn’t log in to Guild Wars 2 for a week for 2 reasons:

- 1 to prevent burn out.
- 2 to see how I would view the game after a week of playing other mmo’s.

The result is well read on:

- In that week I played aion, STO, Rift, Neverwinter, Tera, Eden Eternal, Vindictus, Aura kingdom and so on you get the picture.

What I found is that:
- They all have awkward camera’s that are not smooth, at all !
- character responsiveness is awful.
- reaction times are awful.
- Boring combat.
- quality of life is none existent, when compared to GW.
- messy, badly coded interfaces, and ugly as hell.
- GCD, this didn’t use to bother me at all now I can’t stand it.
- need target to cast anything, annoying much.
- No global Trading post, yeah I missed it.
- art style, I’m gonna censor myself here.

Conclusion

A lot of people say Guild Wars 2 lacks this and that and whatever.
But I say to you, all those other games are missing a hell of a lot more
that we as GW2 players take for granted everyday.
I believe we have been spoiled so much by all the nice good features of GW2 that now we expect an even higher level of quality and polish

The fact of the matter is give credit where credit is due

Guild Wars 2 is an amazing game with many small things in it we take for granted and because they seem so small you might not give it a second thought and think all games out there have those features, when the reality is, I have yet to see any other game that has as much polish, attention to detail and quality of life features as GW2 has, not even wow comes close to this level of refinement, yes I dropped the elephant in the room !

Many consider wow the pinnacle of polish, well I’m here to tell you that is no longer true and hasn’t been since the day GW2 launched.

I’m not saying GW2 is perfect, cough RNG cough Time gating !
but when put into perspective against all the crap that is swirling the ether,
GW2 is a 24k diamond in the rough

Even though I like Guild Wars 2 because I enjoyed the first one, I can understand why people wouldn’t like it. It’s a lot different from other MMOs in that it focuses more on the journey than the “end game.” Friends who don’t normally play MMOS gave Guild Wars 2 a chance because it was more approachable. The tutorials aren’t all that great, but it didn’t make them feel so left out because they’re new with the level scaling.

You could argue this makes the game “casual,” which is true, but for people like me and my friends that are full time college students and work, it’s nice to have an MMO we can put down whenever that has a lot of content and probably the most visually appealing MMO to date.

In the halloween last year, one of the Mad King’s story involved him killing a horse by poison.
I’m on my phone right now so I wont be able to link to the dialogue, but look for halloween 2012.

They’re saving the horses for the next expansion where horse is the new playable race. Elite skills include eating hay and that’s about it.

Account doesn't get birthday presents yearly?

So even if you have been playing from the start, if you don’t have any of those chars anymore, they don’t get a present.

You can check your chars ages by typing /age ingame.

Thanks for the information! I thought it was account wise, not character wise. xD
