I don’t hate GW2, but me and my friend’s don’t really play it anymore. I’ve played other pvp oriented games to fill that niche since then like LoL and Ark, but I do check on this game every now and then.

Putting the whole “professionals leaving the competitive scene” aside, Look at this meta. Seriously, look at it. Over one year later with probably two changes, that’s it. Nothing is changing, we’re using the same strategies with the same builds in the same meta.

As toxic as LoL can be, they do handle their meta with a lot more care. I can look at it now compared to over a year ago and you’ll see builds and champions rise and drop, this is to keep competitive interesting and force people to use new strategies. I had a friend who hasn’t played in a year, he comes back for a bit yesterday only to see… literally nothing in the meta has really changed, at all. He came back to the same exact game. He didn’t miss anything.

DH is a bad class

DrDivine.5378

Not true, druids that don’t play bad, as well as Scrappers are things that I say I can’t handle. Warriors that know how to use SoM are very scary, but as said before it could go either way. While both DH and Warrior are easy to play, Warrior is easier just for the fact once they get Berserker mode they can just run into your face without a care in the world since pulsing stability, with other buffs ,and a spammable burst skill that rewards them tier 3 usage of AH and CI. Also I have to admit 6k Headbutts are very Lulzy.

I don’t really consider druids or scrappers to be a huge threat to DH, there’s a chance it can go either way. I’d say a DH’s worst enemy is a gunflame warrior. GS warrior vs DH is probably one of my favorite fights to watch currently, but gunflame warrior does almost everything they hate. Extremely strong ranged attack so they can’t bait you into traps, unblockable burst via SoM, they have to come to you which can be a huge mistake.

I consider DH to be the easier to play of the two though, they’re close, but it’s much easier to punish a meta warrior than a meta DH. They have to know how to time that signet of might and not step into traps. If they can’t use those six seconds properly, not only are they going to have a drop in power from the signet pop, but it’s back to block block heal heal spam traps with much lower cooldowns. This doesn’t mean warrior has a high skill level, but if I really had to choose which was the easier to use, definitely DH.

Burn guard
Bunker Thief
Ventari Rev
Banner Warrior
GS necro

I went against this comp the other day and there was literally nothing I could do. Not only were the banners destroying my team, but the bunker thief was healing people like crazy. GS necro just destroys GS warrior, not even a real fight.

Don’t even get me started on ventari rev, with the alacrity the heals come in so fast you’d think this was season 1. Burn guard is there because this comp is lit AF

DH is a bad class

DrDivine.5378

What’s obnoxious to me is warrior has always been labeled as the starter class, easy to use utilities, easy to pick up and is strong. Even as a warrior main I can agree with that.

but then everyone who plays Dragonhunter will say “It takes real skill UNLIKE WARRIOR” when they just spam traps and kill people with very little thought. It’s so easy to pick up and play and do a lot of damage. I don’t even really play guardian in general but I made one and sometimes I kill people I don’t even focus on. Like they’ll step on my traps or I’ll shoot them with the longbow and then “oh cool, they’re down.”

The matchups are just way too forgiving, outside of tempest DH can really handle most 1v1s and such effectively, there isn’t really class that makes a DH say “Oh no I definitely can’t handle that it’s too strong”

Revenants, why alacrity?

DrDivine.5378

For the most part, the changes this patch make sense., but giving revenants alacrity was one of the most confusing decisions I’ve ever seen. I was expecting something like maybe a dps or condi buff, shoot even a buff to support I thought about, but alacrity? The unique feature of chronomancer?

Because that’s what revenant mains said, “Yeah this class kinda sucks right now, but you know what it needs? TIME TRAVEL.”

Chronomancer's alacrity no longer unique...

As a rev main you can calm down; we never wanted this and as a whole we are still going to get melted against a condi mesmer, plus don’t expect to see many revs this upcoming season anyways since they did not address what most of us were asking for anyways.

Pfft don’t act like the pvp forums was not full of rev mains saying “You know what revs need, TIME TRAVEL.”

Thief mains, how come you don't switch?

DrDivine.5378

I’ll be the first to say, no I’m not a thief main, I don’t even play thief (I never really play the assassin class in mmos). There’s a problem I’ve always had with thief players, they always absolutely refuse to switch.

What I mean by this is I’ll be queing for ranked, load in the map, see my comp. Looks like I have three thieves on my team, thats not going to work very well. I ask if one or two can switch, not because I think they’re bad players but you don’t need 2-3 thieves on the same team. They always take it as an insult and refuse to switch, then get destroyed by the more well rounded enemy comp.

I’ve always mained three classes, mesmer, warrior and ele. I’ll que with my mesmer, but see we have a bunch of necros or glass cannons and will switch to ele. My whole team is condi damage? I switch to warrior. Again, I don’t see this as an insult when people ask me to switch, I see it more as bringing the right tools for the job if that makes sense.

DrDivine.5378

Who cares about dueling rooms? Winning matches isn’t about having the best dueling build. If you’re 1v1ing as a necro, that’s your problem. The AOE damage that power necro drops is unmatched, which is wasted on 1v1s, even if you can win them all.

The keyword here is accessible, necro was not accessible for the average player. I’m not going to talk about rev much because we all kinda know it hasn’t been good,

Chrono, DH, Warrior, Druid, even Tempest can handle themselves if the situation goes bad. They can all be used in team fights, but at the same time if needed they can push for another node if needed. Thief gets away with this because of it’s superior mobility.

You’re trying to tell me that good profession design, as in for the average player who wants to pick up a necromancer and play this game, is forced to play a DPS role only with no disengage, no 1v1 potential or independence and must be properly supported by the team every single time otherwise it fails? I don’t buy it. That is not good design, you shouldn’t be a blob that just does AOE damage when other professions can fill similar roles while doing more.

Even the best power necro was just kinda meh…

You’re joking, right? Power Necro was probably the best offensive build last season for team fights, as long as good support was present.

That can be said for any profession, necro was not self sufficient and that’s a huge problem. Almost no 1v1 presence, you literally have to hold a necro’s hand the whole match and that will only get you so far. As in, if the person who is supposed to be supporting you makes a mistake, you’re going down with them. You can’t run and push for another node because you will face horrible matchups against warriors, druids, DHs, mesmers, those by themselves are awful.

You go into tpvp or a dueling room, you wouldn’t find many necros. The class is literally on life support and desperately needed some independence and not just a niche role lol

I am annoyed that warrior can still be all cancer up in my grill, but such is life.

I think you’re right, I went to theory craft some new builds tonight to realize that things that worked before still work and things that didn’t work still won’t work. Maybe there’s some fringe stuff that can be done, but overall it’s a pretty bland update, which I think was anet’s intention anyway.

It had some good, the first thing that immediately popped out to me was necro, mainly power necro, feels much better this time around. I knew warrior wasn’t going to get a big hit, or at least in the damage department because let’s be honest here, berserker is all about being super aggressive and in your face. Without their raw damage they wouldn’t have much to work with, so I think trimming the healing down a bit was a good call.

We’ve become accustomed to huge changes patch wise because something is usually broken. Past examples include D/D ele, bunker chrono, turret engi, axebow warrior, shoutbow warrior, wtc. These were builds that not only defined PVP, but had very little counter play.

I complain about warriors sometimes and ESPECIALLY dragonhunters for being annoying with high damage and requiring little skill, but there wasn’t anything this meta that stood out as completely broken. I never once found a warrior or DH to be this unstoppable force in Tpvp, duels are a different deal but no profession was unbeatable, just some were in slightly awkward states (looking at you necro lol)

Elite specs really sped things up, a lot of older utilities just can’t keep up. New utilities and mechanics are much faster to pop up while a lot of the older utilities are geared more towards the older style of playing. You can’t mix the two together, shorter cds are going to win almost every time.

I saw a lot of posts regarding today’s patch as disappointing, and after reading the notes I kinda felt the same way too. However, the more I thought about it, the more I kinda realized, nothing this meta was really THAT broken to begin with.

Don’t get me wrong, you have your warriors and DHs, revenant struggled to keep up and necro just kinda sits there, these were obviously problems. However, I don’t feel like it was that bad though overall, for once almost all the professions get played, there wasn’t really one that was deemed complete garbage, revenant being the closest and even then it was just meh. Warrior and DH were annoying, but not unstoppable, just annoying. I felt like with a few little fixes it could do more for balancing than just doing the complete re haul on everything we kinda expected. Not perfect, but it makes sense.

Guardian: Best example of build diversity

DrDivine.5378

Have to agree…. guard may be a cheese class to begin with, but they definitely have the most options. You can make any trait line work with just about any build. dh is still kinda required cause of virtues, but the other two lines are free game. Sadly you don’t see this with any other profession.

I would say for an offensive build, DH is the better option but yeah, like you said the traitlines can be changed for more options.

Ever tried running warrior without defense and discipline? it doesn’t work lol, so you have to give up berserker but core warrior is too weak so by doing that you’re giving up your offensive presence. When I give up the DH traitline, I feel like I’m getting something in exchange that can be used.

For example, I give up DH to dedicate more to burning, I give up DH to become a more tanky support healer, and they both actually work.

Most of those builds are mediocre to garbage. I wouldn’t play anything but the meta DH spec or pre-hot burning. I mean spirit weapons come on dude. Please don’t roll with garbage like that in ranked unless your playing silver or bronze. Those were fun to mess with back in the day when they were basically invulnerable but still a troll build.

Not every build is going to be perfect, but it’s a good call back to a few years ago when people would come up with some really weird ideas and have success with it. Like I would laugh at the idea of a warrior running full signets and someone not only made it work, but it worked really well.

Same goes for burning spirit weapons guardian, my first impression was “wow this is garbage” but I saw a few people just really dedicated to making it work. They had a build where it was just mostly blocks and the two spirit weapons just melted people.

It obviously has its flaws but you know what, someone was trying something different and being creative and it worked for them. I really miss that

There is diversity, but I’d argue that some of those builds are not very good for the role they fill. That is debatable, but I just wanted to put that out there.

I’ve been rocking as a Guardian going on five years, and it’s been very enjoyable. I always feel like I can do something, even if it may not what I want to do at first

I’m not going to say Some of these listed are the absolute best at their role, but I can say I’ve seen success with all of them. I like the fact you have the options there readily available.

It was kinda like back then when AH guard was meta, but you’d still see people running a more GS offensive guard. Sure it wasn’t meta, but I was impressed some player’s level of success with it.

Some of you might have seen me complain about DHs as I think they’re pretty broken right now, waaayyy too reliable in 1v1s, easy to use and stackable. But for once I’m going to say something positive because I think it needs to be addressed. Guardian, in my opinion, is the current BEST example of build diversity.

I have found out of all the professions, guardian gives me the most options on how I can play, I can get creative and play weird stuff with some success. I’m not saying all these builds are meta or even OP, but I can make some really funny stuff. Here’s a few examples:

-Tanky support guard (AH guard but can run some meditations)
-Burn Guard
-Burning Spirit weapons (sounds stupid and it is, but it can hit really hard lol)
-Standard high damage DH
-Symbolic
-Menders DH

There was pretty much an option for each role, I could be a healer, a tank, high power damage, high condition damage. I don’t feel tied down to just running the elite spec like most other professions either, there were some things vanilla guardian could do better than DH and I really like that.

The idea isn´t that bad. I think too that the elit specs didn´t do anything good for the spvp.
Besides a small hybe and some extra money for anet. -_-
But I know Anet since release now and I´m pretty sure that there isn´t coming anything that would actually change something to good for spvp ever.

Anet is to bussy designing new fashion for the gem-store I guess. They never cared the tinyest bit for spvp, they won´t come up with something now……. Sad but true.

Elite specs are a fun idea for the game, like you said, it just didn’t do much in terms of competitive pvp;.

I think it would be interesting to have a “classic mode” que that doesn’t allow elite specs, vanilla builds only. It would allow people to play PVP and be a little more creative while keeping the basic formula of conquest.

GW2 right now is in the dark on what is going to happen with the game. I hear a lot of negative things about the game on why it is going to “DIE!” I disagree with these things and made a video on what I think the game is currently doing. Those players that where NOT around during PRE-HoT this video is for you. Even if you where around during PRE-HoT I want you to know you are NOT alone on feeling as I do about WvW / ESL. The ESL scene was very rushed and I truly hate to see players that I enjoyed watching leave. Even with all the negatives I still think this game will be OK and as long as they focus on the things that made it the BEST MMO at one time. It can recover and take ANOTHER shot at the scene. Just not now. We are on the rebuilding faze. Please watch the video, leave a comment, and to all the new players. Welcome to the community and I hope you find this video a little bit eye! Enjoy

To me, GW2 was at it’s best when it wasn’t trying to be league of legends, you know what I’m talking about, the super competitive PVP game everyone talks about.

That isn’t what makes GW2 a great game, what makes it great ss the beautiful art direction, the combat is quite fun and there’s a little of something for everyone. It brought me people I would’ve never talked to together because there were different game modes for all our taste.

Just a few years ago there was a lot more creativity in builds, sure there were some OP ones like turret engi but it felt a lot more diverse. They’re slowly getting better, made some bad decisions with HoT I can definitely see that. But in the end I want this game to succeed and get better because it’s given me a unique experience.

Warrior is overpowered

in PvP

Posted by: DrDivine.5378

DrDivine.5378

As a warrior main I feel like this meta the berserker ACTUALLY feels like a berserker, all out in your face damage that’s what we wanted like a year ago.

The issue is with the removal of tanky amulets and a nerf to toughness, raw damage wins the fight. Warrior’s damage is not only extremely powerful, but it’s fast. You can condi bomb me, but I can down you before they even get a chance to tick enough times.

I’ve mentioned this before, but defensive stats just don’t scale well anymore. You can have 3k toughness and you’ll be having to dodge around from warrior and DH as if you had 2k toughness. It’s all about the blocks and in vulnerabilities, and seeing as how DH and warrior have the best access to these while also being able to dish out mass amounts of damage, they rose to the top of the food chain.

For me, it’s elementalist. Back in the day I used to be TERRIBLE with this class, I didn’t understand the rotation of D/D ele. Once I practiced a lot and understood the rotation I ended up having a lot of fun with it, quickly becoming my main right up there with mesmer and warrior.

D/D eventually got to the point of becoming broken and even though I miss that build, I still like meta tempest. I like how elementalist is just always relevant and such an important part of the team. Also, overload air is one of the most satisfying utilities in the game in my opinion. Idk, something about seeing thieves and stuff cower off the point because they can’t step in it amuses me lol

Necromancer is awkward

in PvP

Posted by: DrDivine.5378

DrDivine.5378

In the history of MMOs, you’d be hard pressed to find a class weaker than Necros at the start of any competitive match.

With zero life force, a large percentage of all necro traits, defenses, and abilities are useless. You’re literally playing with half a deck.

How do you build life force?

Here’s the real kicker…you HAVE to put yourself in harms way and attack…even worse…you not only have to attack, but you have to BE attacked to build life force at any reasonable rate.

Oh…and you have virtually no damage at 1200 range, so you have to get in close range AND you wear cloth AND you have almost no stability AND you have zero defenses that scale against a zerg.

On top of that, you have the worst mobility for rotating and almost no support or bunker build. Virtually any class can 1v1 you by simply kiting or going toe-to-toe.

If a Necro is going to be so much weaker than every other class at the beginning of the game, then it needs to be OP when it has full life force and able to easily kill 1v2 with full life force. However, this NEVER is the case unless you bring up the most extreme mismatches in player skill.

The mechanics of necro in general right now have no synergy. They want you to build life force by being in big fights but they can’t handle being focused. They want reaper to be a strong melee fighter but it can’t get close to anything and win the fight. They want necro to mostly stay at range yet it has no disengage outside of flesh wurm so you’re mostly just having to just walk away and that’s it.

The condi damage is awesome, but when the source of it is so easy to abuse and force out/focus, it’s just not really worth it.

Also, I’d like to list a couple of 1v1s that Necromancer can take and potentially win, keep in mind player skill and the builds that players are running is taken to account as well. If you want to get in depth and ask questions and call me an idiot and say, “LOL NO WAY NECRO CAN WIN THAT MATCHUP YOU IDIOT” or the exact opposite “LOL NO WAY NECRO CAN’T WIN THAT MATCHUP YOU IDIOT” I will do thorough explanations of the matchup if you guys want.

Necromancer vs Engineer= Condi wins this very easily

Necromancer vs Condi Warrior= Depends on player skill and build. Necro can win this tho

Necromancer vs Mesmer= No just no just run don’t bother don’t be an idiot

Necromancer vs Revenant= Depends on player skill, and build Necro can win this tho

Necromancer vs Druid= No just no just run don’t bother don’t be an idiot

Necromancer vs Power Warrior= No just no just run don’t bother don’t be an idiot

Necromancer vs Dragonhunter= Depends on player skill and AWARENESS cough dont step on traps cough Necro can win this tho

Necromancer vs Burn Guard= Condi wins this very easily if player skill is high

Necromancer vs Necromancer= Depends on player skill and build, either way a necro wins lol

Necromancer vs Thief= Depends on Life Force, player skill, and build. Necro can win

Necromancer vs Elementalist= Don’t ever take this 1v1, as it’s never ending.

Those are terrible matchups unfortunately, this means a skilled necro player cannot deal with warriors, mesmers, eles, druids and it’s a 50/50 chance against DHs, thieves and revenants but has one good matchup against scrapper.

The issue isn’t that necros are complete garbage, but that other professions are doing their job better with necros having a niche. For example, good warriors can kill necros, eles, scrappers, mesmers, druids, revenants so if the team fight were to fail, they can peel off and 1v1 a node. Mesmer can fill the condi role while being able to win against necros with superior mobility and more 1v1 potential.

You could say necro is the better team fighter over mesmer, but do I really want to give up my mesmer slot for something that requires my team to carry it, has worse mobility, almost no 1v1 presence, no disengage outside flesh wurm (which can be killed) and in general just worse matchups? Again, necro isn’t terrible it ahs it’s uses, but they’re niche. A dps role that requires so much support and no 1v1 presence is just awkward lol

If you convert chill damage to be as it was in the good old days it would be a really big buff.
Losing the chill damage and obtaining bleed we lost 1/3-1/4 of our condition damage.
obtain it back will grant us the dps we totally lack to be compared to other classes.
The Reaper is a DPS elite specializzation and we’re playing it as a boon corruption without damage…

I think they needed to find a middle ground, back when HoT first came out warrior sucked against necro because not only was the chill/condi damage amazing, but the warrior’s main condi defense, berserker’s stance, was nerfed to being a boon so they could just corrupt it and make the whole utility useless.

I’m glad they reverted it back as it was needed for berserker’s stance, but I feel like necro needs it’s edge back too. Right necro cannot handle 1v1s really at all except maybe against something like scrapper. To me, if you’re not a support as in, your main goal is to do damage and not heal/tank for people, then you should be able to handle 1v1s much better than this.

Necro has actually some decent 1v1 potential. I mean, every class has good and bad 1v1 matchups, but necro is by no means bad.

Playing a necro without a good support – preferably ele – on your team is pure masochism to begin with. But ye, condi necro feels somewhat awkward atm. In all honesty, I thought that the change to Deathly chill (where it only applies bleed) was only meant to be temporary measure….but it has been like that for quite some time now. With all the amounts of condi cleanse, bleeds+poison as your main dmg source just dont cut it anymore.

The power variant with blighter’s boon is much more self sufficient atm….although it still needs support from teammates.

I don’t think I’d go as far as to say say necromancer is bad, getting hit by their condi bursts in team fights can be devastating, it feels incomplete. The pressure can be good, but nothing special. I don’t think I ever hear people saying “Oh we NEED a necro on our team to deal with so and so.”

Someone before this comment mentioned necro is kinda like a blob and thats true lol, you go in, throw some condis and you’re just kinda “there” due to no defensive capabilities. The great healthpool is appreciated but does almost nothing to help since most power builds can tear right through anything with poor defenses.

The best word I can think of to describe necro is “awkward.” The condi damage can be quite good, but it’s a one trick pony. Inflict some conditions, pray to god they don’t focus you while keeping your distance and if they do, you’re in deep kitten lol

Chrono inflicts very similar damage when it comes to conditions, but unlike necro, it has the tools to deal with bad situations. About to get focused? Blink, 2 on sword, Diversion, portal, blocking with the shield, stunning, phase retreat etc. all while inflicting condition damage

I don’t buy into the whole “reaper is a teamfighter not a 1v1er!” DH, warrior, chrono, druid etc. they can do 1v1s and team fights. I give ele a free pass because it’s a healer and very tanky so it makes up for that. If you’re a necro in the first team fight at mid and a good team decides to focus you first and I mean actually focus you, what are you supposed to do? Spectral armor? Rise? Run away? That’s kind of it, maybe use flesh wurm, but thats a poor man’s blink/portal because unlike those, people can actually kill your wurm if they’re smart. Imagine if the enemy could kill your other side of the portal.

Necromancer desperately needs 1v1 potential to some extent.

Procmancer or Corruption?

As a PVP only necro main who made 2 of those builds; i would disagree with the above reply in some areas.
First, both builds are situationally better than one another for solo Q. However, neither would be taken at a Pro level competative tournament except maybe a version of corruptionmancer with some changes due to preference. In all honesty the pro meta build is not even on meta battle for necromancer. Both of those builds can be used in solo Q depending on composition of both teams. Both pretty much are boonstrip focused with either an emphasis in power damage or condi damage (look at the runes).

Lastly, the metabuild that would be used at a pro level would be wanderer amulet or deadshot amulet w/ curses trait and soul reaping trait lines. At that level you have some very good support and know how to position yourself on necro to use this build effectively. Power necro most certianly would not be used due to condi necro countering it very easily.
Some exceptions to taking this wanderer amulet build would be: No thieves on opposite team, or a condi rev on the opposite team (if you have a Godlike condi rev named Rev of Boa). The build forces cooldowns very quickly for the other teams support. Personally i like to run a troll version where i take epidemic and wait for the druid to use signet of renewal so i can epidemic his pet.

Could you or someone link me a build using what you think works best? I’m trying to find a solid reaper build.

Procmancer is a glass build that prioritizes boon corruption output over everything else.
Corruptionmancer is similar but it invests into LF gain so it’s not a free kill. However Corruptionmancer has significantly less pressure and it’s DPS is poor. (granted necro dps in general is poor)

You will only want to use Procmancer if you are queueing with a support and are playing against a team with supports.

That said you really should just go power. Condi necro is a bunker killer in a meta that has no bunkers.

I noticed on metabattle there’s two very similar builds with a few minor changes, the procmancer and the corruption variant. There’s a few differences such as one traitline (one takes spit) and of course, corrupt boon.

Which do you think is the better variant?

Warrior, resistance and boon removal

This is probably going to get a lot of hate from warrior fanboys, since people from these forums can’t accept any kind of criticism. Applies to all professions, not just warrior mains.

Warrior in my opinion has way too much condition hate and resistance. (and dodging Arc Divider is pretty much impossible) Especially resistance wrecks condition classes that don’t have any boon removal. So any classes that aren’t necromancer, simply don’t stand a chance against warrior.
Just think about it, chrono is a rare exception, because a lot of its damage comes from physical damage on shatters, but that’s it. And to all those who disagree with me, try beating a good warrior with a condition build, that isn’t necromancer or mesmer. It is nigh impossible.

I can just see people picking one single statement from this post and bashing on it, rather than discussing the main point of this post: warriors has too much resistance and thus beating it with most condition specs is almost impossible, unless you also have good physical damage, which most condition builds unfortunately don’t have.

This is a really hard topic because it’s one of the few instances where berserker’s stance was like it is now, then was nerfed to resistance, then changed back to what it is currently again, so what happened?

Two extremes, the current berserker can handle most condition builds such as necros, but when berserkers stance was changed to strictly resistance when HoT came out, it was almost useless because one corruption from a necro rendered it obsolete and got wrecked by conditions.

I’m voting yes because of the countless times we have two thieves on my team, we kindly ask one of them to switch and they always say the same thing, “Nah man we’re fine thief is all I play!”

gets wrekt because thief can’t handle 1v1s against DH, warrior, druid, etc.

False. A S/F’s role is to primarily take 1v1s. It sucks at 1v1s because it’s so weak, and that doesn’t make it a +1 build.

The role of a dps build is to +1 and create winning fights. S/F ele still has bad sustained damage, and only burst, and its burst isn’t enough alone to kill anyone in any reasonable time without help. However, s/f does have enough burst to end fights by killing targets low on CD’s or unprepared for a huge damage drop. If s/f ele is supposed to 1v1, it needs more consistent damage, less burst (shave phoenix to only hit once or something, but lower CD), and way more sustain.

Even if a thief could win 1v1’s against most classes, its job is still to roam and end fights quickly. It just takes way too long to win any 1v1’s (as both classes) and you have to give up the decap and even full-cap against almost anything before anything dies. Only against heavily ranged classes can you really hold the point effectively. You rely on positioning, kiting, and very select usage of your long CD’s to stay alive, and you just can’t do that fighting over a point.

As bad as it sounds, I would be ok with ele bring the only class with access to celestial stats. If the metas have proven anything, it’s that ele only functions efficiently as a jack of all trades or a strict healer/support.

I know D/D ele was OP at one point, but there were plenty of times D/D was fine, it was strong but not impossible. The class is very one dimensional.

In fact, right after the release of HoT, cele ele couldn’t even keep up with new, shiny, HoT bruisers like marauder or soldier engie (before they removed it and instead gave paladin amulet), who have more damage AND sustain. Other bruisers like modern warrior would laugh out loud at cele ele, who couldn’t even out-damage their passive sustain and would die in 2-3 hits of a GS.

You would really think something would’ve surfaced at this point, but it’s only proven that ele is so closely locked to vitality and healing power it needs those to even be usable.

I’m no balance expert, this game has been out for what, 4 and a half years? We’ve only seen two, TWO meta builds for ele, cele (again, healing power, vitality and toughness are the major keys there) and tempest, which is the same thing minus the damage.

fresh air is a gimmick, we had that weird auto attack stay on earth attunement condi build for awhile before that got nerfed, but those were not very viable.

I’m getting tired of trying to play guild wars when the games i come to is the most randoms ive experienced in every game ive ever tried and it makes me sad that we dont know when season 6 is gonna come or what competetive format there is gonna be if there will be anything.
it also makes me sad seing so many great players leave the game cause arenanet cant talk with their pvp community for kitten. the game is dying now since season ended. pvp is totally dead. i will not play the game soon if they dont start doing something about their dying game and so will more players. i wanna have dates for when balance patch is coming out, i want to know when next season starts and i want to know wich format and when we can expect next competetive format to come out.
Just the thing that arenanet didnt even bother to help helseth and sindrener to promote the tournament of groucharoo also gives me low hope about this company actually cares about their game or if they allready have givin up on it.
They really need to start telling what there plans are.

They will never have the constant balancing other competitive games do like LoL because that isn’t what GW2 is about. The combat is fun, but GW2 caters to the casual gaming community with options of different game modes as opposed to one and I’m fine with that.

GW2 is alot easier to pick up and play and I think that’s what keeps people playing. I would like for them to continue to push PVP in the right direction though, but for what its worth, the meta has improved a lot since HoT.

Portal is core mesmer. Moa is core mesmer. Condi stacks come purely from core mesmer.

Exactly, every viable “chrono utility and playstyle” actually comes from vanilla mesmer minus CS and shield, thats it.

Chrono is not a time manipulator, it’s a bandaid. “Sorry we nerfed sigil of energy so you can’t use deceptive evasion as well as you used to, here’s an elite spec that’s supposed to alter time but really just makes it so you can have enough clones and thats pretty much it.”

Chronomancer? Not really.

Chrono’s fixes for mesmer’s resources should have been innate to mesmer long before HoT. Base mesmer was like a thief without the ini regen skills and traits.

As for not feeling like a “Chronomancer” CS is fine, although could use some tweaks so it doesn’t feel so clunky. Like channeled or casting skills during CS’s end should reset, should also set and reset condis properly, weapon swap reset, no global cooldowns after resetting, and proper functionality with Mantras.

Alacrity did feel pretty good, and was similar to effects like in Final Fantasy’s Time mage, but that got nerfed to the point of feeling pretty bad in pvp. (and was still nerfed even after the dev’s claims of 66% dps was debunked in PvE, and was a non issue outside of chrono bunk in PvP but precog change alone fixed that. )

The nerfs to Precog was justified, but now it’s a poorly designed skill.

Quickness felt good at first, but the global nerfs were justified since everyone rezzed so fast, however without the utility and thanks to the nerf to alacrity, it now feels pretty bad compared to double phantasm.

Slow would be good… But it’s not very effective with the lack of consistency, if it was every 3rd or 4th crit it might be better, but even then it would still under performs compared to to the other options.

I agree that the nerfs were justified, contstant quickness speed rezzing people while being a god tank with reduced cds via alacrity was too much haha.

By doing this though, they basically stripped away what made a chronomancer, it can’t use slow well, it can’t use quickness well, it can’t use wells…. well (lol) and alacrity has also been nerfed.

This isn’t a chronomancer, this is a condi phantasm mesmer with slightly less cds.

and power shatter needs buffs.

No it really doesn’t. Builds that 100-0 in <1s through death shroud with less telegraph than a thief do not need buffs.

Besides the spec seems to be coming back into meta, since I’ve seen more power mesmers in the past week than I have seen condi mesmers.

This is why I don’t believe mesmer has the best carry potential, again, this doesn’t mean mesmer is bad, but it’s matchups do not scale well for carry potential. You can’t struggle that bad against things like DH (mostly) and warrior when they’re everywhere. Same goes for thief, again, thieves can be quite good right now, but you’re not going to be seeing a thief pushing far, forced to engage a DH and winning.

Yes, I play LB + Sword/Shield… It’s very good. I feel like Mesmer can’t mess up a whole lot in that matchup unless the DH is average/bad OR uses their condition cleanses at the wrong time. I’ve fallen victim of cleansing too early

I’ve done it too, maybe it has more to do with the cds and stuff too, just not a matchup a chrono would wanna take if they dont have to haha

I have to agree with Cynz concerning thieves.
All we got was Acrobatics 2.0, so nothing really changed except for 2 dodges more (traited).

“Dodging around hitting people” that’s what thieves do since start of the game.
That’s basically what all classes do, whereas Thieves excel at.

It’s a good argument concerning thieves and daredevils, here is the main difference for me. When they first revealed daredevil, a super athletic class with a staff/pole dodging around. Yeah it wasn’t too much different from thief as thats kinda what they already did minus the staff, but it did what it advertised. Dodging even more and hitting people.

Chronomancer, manipulator of time, doesn’t really use much time manipulation, this doesn’t mean I think chrono currently sucks or doesn’t play “well”, but I feel like I’m playing vanilla mesmer if that makes sense. If I wasn’t using the shield and CS I’d probably forget lol

It takes a lot of confidence in your ability to play Mesmer to feel comfortable fighting a DH IMO. I like Mesmers current playstyle. There are times where I’ve thought to myself, “dang it, they have a Mesmer!”

I feel like DH is the worst matchup and requires very good timing, but generally not something you want to go 1v1 against to contest a point.

Do you usually the current meta build?

I’ll be the first to say no, I don’t think mesmer is bad, it has pretty good condition damage and portal is such a useful utility in pvp boosting it’s already decent mobility. However, I think when it comes to matchups, chrono falls a little short in this meta.

Similar to thief, they have low toughness in a very high power meta which can be a bit problematic.

-DH is a nightmare at times, but that’s ok you’re supposed to have a counter or two.

-Warrior, not impossible but can be a pretty hard matchup due to the raw damage and condi cleanse.

-Thief? Mostly countered by vault spammer.

Ele? Not really worth contesting for 1v1 but they can hate confusion at times.

Revenant: Anything can kill a revenant lol, were talking about viable classes.

Druid: Can be ok, they hate your conditions and you hate their power damage and healing

Necro and scrapper I’ll put in the same category because I feel like these are your most effective matchups.

Portal is great, but when you take that portal only to be forced to contest with some pretty bad matchups, I feel like it’s more about working in the background than having that 1v1 potential.

Chronomancer? Not really.

I get that chrono bunker was OP at launch and I like playing mine even now. The problem is that I feel more like a Mesmer+ as in, there’s really not anything added besides continuum split and the shield.

For something called a chronomancer, I expected use of quickness and slow, manipulating time/the flow of battle. Even the wells don’t really add anything, were using almost all the same tools we did as a regular mesmer. Here’s a few comparisons:

Berserker: In your face high damage, what I expected

Daredevil: Dodging around hitting people, again, what I expected

Scrapper: Excellent use of gyros and hammer, what I expected

Druid: Pretty close, patches up what ranger always lacked, good support and healing

Dragonhunter: A person who hunts dragons using a longbow and setting traps, yeah what I expected

Tempest: The most confusing, I actually had no expectations for this one so I can’t say much with a name like that. At least it’s useful

Reaper: Chills, giant scythe, condi damage, yeah pretty accurate

Herald: Barely worth mentioning, Herald IS revenant, might as well call it that instead of revenant because revenant has never gotten any use lol

Nothing to debate here, DH is undoubtedly the most skill-devoid low risk & high reward profession in the current meta. Sorry, that’s just a fact proven by the droves of FotMers flocking to it.

Yes, it can be countered at higher levels of play, especially in team play, I fully believe this to be true…but that in no way makes up for the fact that DH absolutely dominates low and mid ranks, and makes the game highly unenjoyable when facing stacked DHs without DHs of your own. (Yes, that’s when I swap to DH too. Yeah me! It’s currently complete braindead garbage EZ mode. I have no clue how to play a DH and yet I can succeed more so than with my main that I’ve played since beta.)

And to whomever said DH is weak to Conditions either doesn’t know how to play a DH, or has a very different definition of a “weakness” then any non-DH profession has.

You took word out of my mouth/fingers. Nothing against DH at all, and I’m not saying ppl who main them are trash or anything of the sort, but it’s as braindead as they come in this meta. It has everything a pvp meta build needs in spades practically except maybe team heals. DH hands down brings way more to a team than War, why are ppl even arguing that? Kite out War’s EP and it should be GG saying skill is equal. I’m not complaining about DH at all, I play everything. Just my 2 cents for this discussion.

I agree as well, I don’t want DH to be unusable, but its the easiest to pick up and get good results from. No disrespect to the DH mains out there, but it is the go to easy to use class.

Considering GW2 is a mostly casual pvp game, consider the average match. I’m not saying DH is as OP as turret engi was, but even though turret engi was not used in professional tournaments, they absolutely plagued PVP. Didn’t have to know a rotation or time dodges or anything, any person could just ru nthe build and be unstoppable in a 1v1 or even 1v2s. Something that tanky and reliable while also being easy to play should not do that much damage haha

Warrior - Hammer, Ideas for changes

in PvP

Posted by: DrDivine.5378

DrDivine.5378

So.. i was trying to use Hammer on Warrior, and it sucks a lot, its incredible how useless it is, so instead of only complaining, i was trying to think of way to make it better, without it been op as Fooo, and the ideas that i have are those:

The “op” idea: Would be to make that every skill cancels the animation of the other, so it removes the delay that the weapon have, and its more smooth and better to use.

The less “op” and more normal idea: It would be to reduce the cast time of the F1 based on range, on how distant you are, the closer the target is to you, the less time it takes to cast, and the farther, it takes more time to cast, instead of all distances having the same cast time.

I actually tried using hammer the other day, I feel like it has potential as the cc and damage can be very useful at times. People have already mentioned the problems I had but I’ll say them anyway haha

The hammer is wayyy too slow and unreliable in today’s meta, there are many other choices that can do the same, if not more damage while being much faster. The burst on hammer also takes so long. If you don’t have stability, you’ll get interrupted before the animation even finishes.

The adrenaline build is also not that good, this is why mace is so good right now. In a sense, it’s kind of like doing a weird hybrid job of hammer and axe. It has the damage of axe and some cc but with a block as well.

wings = everything i say is correct

Says person is not legendary and says they’re a liar, person shows item only attainable by legendary rank, gets mad

Yeah, sounds about right.

uh…. you know that you can get those wings w out playing this season at all right?
all you had to to do was grind the last seasons.

Uhh… you know it’s literally the same kitten every season and every season has the same reward and the same grind right?

Answer the question, do you need to be legendary to have the ascension?
