Anet: Oh we are about to announce some ground breaking content!
Anet: We are introducing leagues blah blah blah
Players: We don’t want leagues they are a bad idea for blah, blah and blah!
Anet: We are going to continue with the leagues as planned and you are stuck with blowouts for 7 weeks and don’t even expect new content from usduring that time. We need moar data so we will analyse the first league before we make changes for the second league.
No they can’t make changes while second one is going. So 14 weeks from now there might be changes.
While the company is bragging about 14 days cadence WvW content is being moved to 7 week cadence.
I am actually starting to like the buff. Its bringing the coverage and pop difference problems out of the closet. Now even Mr. Carter can see that they are an issue.
Hopefully.
Maybe?
Devon?
Give us a bone here.
Please?
No?
Ok
mm point 1 & 4 OK. Caps are the same. You’re telling me if my server ranked 9 spots behind the server were facing competes and actually makes the matchup respectable should lose rating and reward the high ranked server token for “winning”… No thanks but don’t worry leagues are starting so they will. You can’t force people to move there will always be population imbalance.
I think what he is saying is that it shouldn’t match servers 9 spots apart:P
On my Rank 18 server, it’s already starting.
The original reasons for the exodus of a major WvW guild were possibly only partially related to league concerns. But the guild transfers that followed are due to the weakened, now improbable to be able to compete in T2, nature of the server. This is a fiasco for WvW that surpasses even the insanely long free-transfer period in 2012.
I blame Devon and his team entirely. You killed one server’s, and quite likely 9 server’s, WvW communities.
But you don’t care. You only care about numbers. Disgusting. Inhumane.
Agreed. Same thing is happening on low tier NA servers. We had an exodus of guilds before the League. But now with League promising match ups with more than 3 tiers difference a lot of guilds are having meetings as to where to transfer. And with the way anet has been treating the issue so far, people who want to stay have no argument to use. I can’t say that its going to be better later, as I have no hope in the dev team.
The community team at least seems to try to communicate, but the dev numero uno can’t get off his high horse and visit low tier servers to see what is going on.
A pve player asked me as to what guild I would recommend he joins on our server to do wvw. I had to tell him to wait 2 week and see which ones stay.
I am also hearing the same things from other servers in “Silver League”. Everyone wants to transfer to ioj as they are the current bandwagon server with 24h coverage, or to whichever server from Gold can win the Tanking race to drop to 13.
So, the forums have been on fire with the bloodlust debate for several weeks now, and I see some folks saying “why get so worked up about a +50/150 stat buff? It’s not much different to food buffs”.
There’s some truth in that argument; I don’t like the buff, and can think of a dozen ways it could’ve been done better, but it’s not as game-breaking as some are making out.
But the reason the underlying discontent has boiled over into outright hostility isn’t just the buff. It’s just the straw that broke the camel’s back, it’s just another thing on a long list of mad decisions, and people have finally given up on waiting patiently and hoping it’ll get better eventually.
Now bare with me here…..
You’ve sat at your desk at work, at 9 in the morning, falling asleep. You could really use a coffee to freshen yourself up, give you some focus and help you work smoothly. Then the office admin person wanders past and offers to get you a drink. You gladly accept and ask for a coffee. Ten minutes later, they come back with a tea.
You don’t mention it, because they went to the effort and probably just forgot, and anyway tea is better than nothing. But the next day, when they offer again, you make sure to put special emphasis on the word “coffee”. But again they come back with tea.
The next day, you spell it out for them “coffee not tea please”, and they come back with a hot chocolate. NOT what you need to stay awake!
The next day, you say wearily “coffee, nothing else, just coffee please”. And they come back with a friggin margarita. You actually quite like margaritas, and in other circumstances it’d be pretty funny and you’d appreciate it. But not at 9 in the morning. And given their behaviour up to now, you start to wonder whether they’re purposefully trying to wind you up. If they’d got you coffee every day and then brought the margarita out of the blue, that’d be pretty funny. But they haven’t.
And if you try to go and make your own coffee, half the office starts screaming at you, and the admin-person refuses to ever speak to you again.
Bloodlust is ANet bringing us a margarita when we need a coffee. On it’s own, we wouldn’t be too bothered, it’d actually be kinda awesome. But given everything that’s come up to now, instead of going “lol what? oh, you so whacky” we’re going “oh for kitten sake, why are you doing this??”
Changes/Fixes that’ve been repeatedly asked for since last year (Coffee):
Proper Commander/Party/Guild UI and functionality. Not being able to kick offline party members.
Bug fixes for all the glitchy towers (hai Hugh “Too Vague” Norfolk)
Something to address the huge imbalances in server populations, nightcapping etc. Maybe something along the lines of cheaper transfers to lower ranked servers, adjusting PPT by population, or making the out-manned buff useful, etc.
An end to Musical Keeps and server-blobs doing laps of the map PvDing down T1 structures and not even trying to defend or fight the other server.
Skill lag.
Completely non-sensical queue system.
Fix for broken waypoint-contesting mechanics.
Changes that have come out of nowhere and don’t really help (Hot Chocolate):
Traps.
WXP Ranks.
AC Buff.
Seige Masteries.
Random matchups.
Free transfers to medium-pop servers, even if they’re T1.
Bloodlust.
Leagues.
The thing is, the people who’ve been playing WvW every day for the last year and who are still sticking with it, have been doing so on the hope and assumption that, while WvW might not be perfect yet and still need some work, at least if we have some patience, keep supporting the game and wait long enough it’ll eventually get there.
There was a brief period back in the spring when it looked like we were finally being vindicated in that hope. With the culling fix, the fix for seige despawn timers, and EU reset being moved to a reasonable hour, there was hope that our patience was bearing fruit.
But since then it’s been all down-hill. You can say “these things take time”, and we understand that that’s true. However, they take a hell of alot longer if the developers are working on pointless stuff in the mean-time, instead of the stuff they should be working on. And they take forever if the developers have no interest in ever getting there.
Bloodlust and leagues have just spelled this out in giant neon flashing letters, which is why they’re attracting all the flak. But don’t let that fool you, the anger is way deeper than a +50 stat buff.
+1
At the moment what is being done to WvW, buff and League are forcing people to transfer. There isn’t really any hope left for people who decide not to bandwagon, as anet is not even seeing it as a major issue. They will not address it before the leagues start and by that time it will be too late. I used to feel that it was the fault of the players that leave to stack on top servers. But from the way anet is changing the system I have to say that the fault is their.
If they don’t stop the League, do you really think they will do anything to break up the top tier groups?
Players get frustrated>buy gems>transfer to new server for fair fights= Anet wins
more like, players get frustrated>quit game>the end
Agree, I buy gems when I am happy with the game. When I am not happy with it I take a break and don’t buy gems. Pretty much everyone in my guild spend gems on fluff when positive changes are made to WvW. Like culling fix, and even new finishers. We buy gems to support the game. When we are unhappy with the game we are not going to buy gems. Yes we might pay to transfer with gems we already have or farm gold. But they aren’t making that money, because they are loosing players good will. That good will is much more important than any server transfer fees they make from us. I just don’t see how they would benefit from player discomfort, because it negatively affects player retention.
i wanted to thank the devs for the new BL’s. …
im in tier 1.
…hope everyone else is having a lot of fun!
Really?
Good idea. It might actually make it much more interesting even in closer match ups.
Of course in the end they need to address the population differences and coverage imbalance for any buffs to help in any meaningful way.
Still, its better than what we have now.
YES
Finally. Its been suggested, but was ignored and burred on the forum.
This is the only way where the buffs can help.
Of course there is no chance in Underworld that Dev would listen to this.
Tried the new changes for two days. Still don’t like the buff. After playing in the ruins I have to say that I am not sure if I like the mechanic of the cap points. I like spvp as is, but I am not sure if the same mechanic works in wvw. It makes those parts very disjointed from the rest of the map. Was capping the buffs, but not taking camps or scouting, so it felt separated from the rest of the wvw feel. I think to me it feels very much like hotjoin and not like tpvp at all. Or roaming.
I don’t think that the buff is the big problem atm. Its terrible but not as big of a deal as simply the imbalance in server pop and coverage. No mechanic will work until they either fix the pop/coverage imbalance or adjust their matchmaking.
Considering the attitude of the wvw dev I doubt it will happen, so rather than staying very negative about it I think I will just take a break from wvw.
So I log in, and Anvil Rock is now Green….
And to make it more interesting, We are up against Borlis Pass and Yaks Bend 0_o
LOL I have to login to see that:)
Greetings Dream,
Allow me to take a moment to answer some of your questions and hopefully alleviate your concerns. In regards to your first question concerning posts and threads being removed, allow me to quote another member of our Community team who addressed this concern earlier this month:
Our Forum Code of Conduct is very clear regarding what is acceptable discussion. It’s true; we do not allow “I quit” threads or threads created simply to complain. We DO allow negative threads, as long as it remains constructive and respectful. Not just respectful towards each other, but also to our staff, which includes the Moderation Team, Dev Team, and more.
…
Our goal is to allow our community to express their thoughts and desires for the game, but not at the expense of our welcoming and respectful spaces.
That said, threads and posts are removed because they violate the forum code of conduct. We do not remove posts simply because we don’t like what people are saying. In short, it’s not what people say, but how they say it. As long as people engage in critical discussions in a way that treats developers and community members respectfully, there should not be an issue.
However, we are human and we do make mistakes. Which is why we encourage you to email forums@arena.net if you believe a moderation action was made in error.
We are always seeking to improve with moderation on the forums and having the opportunity to correct mistakes and educate those involved is the first step towards doing so.
In response to your question about how we collect and pass on feedback, the simple answer is “yes”. We have a rotating schedule of all the subforums, ensuring that each subforum is reviewed regularly and feedback from each subforum is passed on to the developers. Additionally, after an update, feedback is gathered from forums most affected by the update. In the case of the most recent update, WvW made up a significant amount of the feedback, and yes the negative feedback was included as part of that report. To be frank, I personally spent my entire afternoon yesterday reading and gathering feedback from the WvW subforum for yesterday’s report.
I cannot make promises regarding what actions the development teams will take based on the feedback we provide, but I can promise that they do hear your feedback, either by reading it directly here on the forums or through the reports we send them each day.
As part of the Community team, communication with players is always at the forefront of our minds and we’re always looking at methods to make improvements in that field. That said, we will leave this thread open today, so you can ask further questions, and share your concerns. Please note that if the discussion does not stay civil or constructive, we’ll close the thread.
Our hope is that by leaving this open for discussion, we can show that we are listening and working to improve our processes.
Thank you Mark! This reply actually makes a big difference. A lot of negativity on this sub forum stems from the perception of lack of care or interest by arena.net. Knowing that at least some of the feedback is getting to the developers gives some of us hope.
Wouldn’t League system still need some sort of matchmaking system?
As to who plays who? I guess the system is going to be DevonLD
They had a break steamrolling DR and ET last week, so its ok.
On a serious note, the orbs don’t seem to be as important as just the absurd matching system. Its basically whoever has people in off hours, 3x more people on the field etc.
And as long as this issue is not addressed, no amount of buffs will be able to help.
Why are so many critical posts about the path being deleted?
Yes they are negative, but they are still feedback about the patch.
I have seen too many valid topics being deleted/moved to trash and its getting a bit
unproductive. Is community team interested in wvw players feedback on the changes and the planned course of wvw? Or do you not care? So far the impression from your moderation and selective responses only to positive view on the patch and direction looks arrogant and unprofessional. I doubt that its the impression that you want to convey to your players.
Q1. I know you collect feedback from some of the forums for the team,
does it include this sub forum and also the negative feelings toward the patch by some of the posters?
Q2. Do any of you guys play WvW and on what servers?
Q3. Would you Please Please Please provide an AMA on reddit or something like that on this forum to facilitate some way of communication for the community about WvW?
PS: Our guild is having a meeting tomorrow about future in gw2. I am one of the people who would like for us to stay. But any lack of communication is really disheartening.
I am pretty sure that no movement is needed for this. A lot of people I know in wvw are stopping playing the game due to unbalanced match-ups and no real care for wvw shown by anet. There are just no real communication about the main issues and that leads people to loose hope and stop playing. So, I would advise to just play if you like to play or not if you don’t feel like it. Either way until someone at anet starts playing wvw this will not get better.
(edited by Moderator)
Man, it might affect the League. So after the league is over they will have meeting about it.
Love the art, but hate the buffs and the way they are kept.
Point per stomp is good.
So, no to buffs.
Thank you for the post. This kind of posts bring back hope for the game.
Cheers and good job!
Or make the randomization a bit less severe.
GvG zealots dominate the WvW subforums, trying to force their narrow view of the game on everyone.
I disagree. I am one of many people who don’t care for GvG at all and don’t like the buff and the League. I believe that GvG should be moved out of WvW. I can see that some of the points raised by the GvG crowd are valid. Please don’t try to derail a valid thread. ty
YES. Because someone of us enjoy the rewards of winning.
I’m sure there are some, but most don’t like snowballs and snowball mechanics. Not even good for Karma trains.
Snowball would mean the ball would be getting bigger and bigger. However as these points stand, they can be flipped real fast.
It diverts attention from defending and raiding keeps.
So as such it’s not a snowballing mechanic.
No, you don’t seem to understand. These points are hard to get, but they are easy to keep. You need to claim a buff for yourself to debuff the enemy, at the time when the enemy is stronger than you. The buff is what makes it snowball though, not the points.
Why would we need heads on sticks when we have pink quagon backpacks?
Feedback, as long as it’s about butterflies, red roses and/or child birth.
But seriously, the team does watch this thread and does keep the feedback. And we also compile particularly good constructive feedback for the team, so they don’t miss it.
Too bad the “team” doesnt care, cause they see WvW as a casual’s area, which doesnt need any testing by more than 10 ppl.
10? are you mad? Its 1 man, 1 cat and 3 golems.
WvW won’t die but it won’t improve. Take it or leave it. The sad truth unfortunately, because people need more jumping puzzles.
What if the League is only played in the Obsidian Sanctum?
Would be fun for everyone.
Bumping this thread since other ones about the danger of league are being deleted or new ones created.
Have now seen it happen on DR. A lot of people are moving to stacked servers or quiting the game all together. I am sure Devon could see it on the metrics already.
Some of us might stay and play as holding points, upgrading and siege isn’t that important to us. But if those are part of the game, why do people who choose low tier servers deprived of them? I can’t really blame the people who leave as Anet isn’t even acknowledging the issue.
I’m pretty sure even “going out every night just to kill” will be affected negatively as well. We’re talking about matchups that are not just imbalanced, but insanely imbalanced — on the order of 24/7 spawn camping imbalanced. And these matchups won’t be happening occasionally, but almost every week if you’re one of the low ranked servers for your league.
By the way, if you are on a low ranked server, prepare for a lot of running as you won’t have waypoints at any time, anywhere.
I feel bad for the unlucky servers that get T1 servers twice (7 weeks, 14 total opponents, 11 other servers) so it is bound to happen unless ANet is smart and puts T1 together twice in the 7 weeks.
It is also sad that (what seems like the majority) of players blame ANet for the population imbalance when it was the players that created it. That strive to be #1 seemed to be too much for some people and the only way to “be #1” was to go to a bigger server. We, as a collective group, could have prevented this from happening but instead we took the easy way out and just grouped together on 4 servers. Who cares if you are in “omg T1 im so cool” if everyone whines and complains about skill lag and not finding any opponents to fight? Is short-term pride worth the long-term downfall of a gametype?
The only positive I can see coming out of this is population shift. Those players on servers ranked 9-12, if looking to move and I would think, they would move to rank 13-16 (for better rewards). After this league is over and free movement of servers via rank is allowed, those previous ranked 13 and higher servers could move up to a “new rating level” which would freshen up WvW for everyone.
Tragedy of the commons, I guess.
As for players moving from ranks 9-12 into 13-16. That’ll happen. Players will also move from ranks 9-12 to ranks 1-3 as well as from 21-24 to 13-16 and 1-3. Basically, everyone will top load into 1-3 and 13-16 making the low population servers even smaller. There will be a population shift, but not in a way that moves people from 1-3 to the lower tiers — which is what we really need.
Even if this type of population shift were good, you’d be killing servers ranked 9-12 for it — it’s that worth it, or fair to those servers?
And “moving up to a new ratings level” wouldn’t freshen up WvW. It’s pretty clear that if you move from the lower league to the upper one you’re just going to get zerged 24/7.
I should have explained better really, sorry bout that.
After this league is over servers 9-12 and 13-16 will fight amongst themselves and change rankings, which creates different ranges for match-ups. That is where the “freshen up” comes from. Yeah, it’s just replacing 1 server with another but those previous lower servers will get to fight Mag and SoS but with more people than they previously had. There will be different match-ups with possibly different outcomes, which recreates the ladder.
But Yes, I completely agree (on killing 9-12). When the “arms race” started (back when JQ stacked to beat us, SoS) it was all downhill from there. In response to the massive population shift, there have been ZERO reasons to not be on the same server has everyone else. No reason to not blob, no reason to not karma train, no reason to fight open field other than guild pride and even that was shot-down. Devon said to forget about the “tier mentality” but it was here for so long it is forever stuck in players’ minds.
The gap between league is not that big (50 glicko currently). #12 beat #13 last week by 25k points.. in WvW that is a SMALL margin of victory (equates to 37 PPT over a week). Now if you want to jump from 16 to 9, of course that’s a blow out but so is 9 to 2 (same rank difference).
good points
bump
Devon and co, this is a good direction to take with these buffs. Have them situational and affect other engagements. So 2 teams communicating at the same time can benefit each other.
same issue here, SBI vs IOJ vs NSP
IOJ has outnumbered buff in EB in prime times because the zergs from SBI are incredibly huge. And not only that, anet employes play on the server that is already hugely outnumberes other aka on SBI side.
SBI is t2 server and shouldn’t be facing IOJ right now. Worst match up i ever saw. And anet supporting that server is even bigger slap in the face.
This is just really absurd, we face like 70 ppl zergs in every single map and we have to defend it all with our small groups of 20-30 ppl. It feels like in some kind of 300 movie where little group of people keeps fighting huge army day and night and get spam emoted from enemies when that zerg rolls over.
SBi has 2 hours queue times for every wvw map and we have to fight it all with little numbers.
This is not fun by all means, just getting rolled over by groups that are many times bigger than yours. So people just abandon wvw.
Also, every time on this weekend we tried to attack keeps in SBI BL entire group would crash but SBI players wouldn’t. Apprently it is fine for us to attack NSP BL, our BL or even EB but getting keeps in SBI BL is not happening since entire group would crash instantly.
On top of it, SBI and NSP apprently work together now. They don’t attack each other, at some point NSP was sitting in our tower, SBI was sitting outside that tower and they didn’t attack each other, they all waited for us to kill us. SBi doesn’t take NSP points anymore, NSP doesn’t attack SBI neither, they just 2v1 IO right now.
Glad that devs decided to help SBI as well. Thanks bunch.
To be fair your small 30 man zergs are huge for low tier servers you usually play, and your Oceanic coverage is on par with SBI. It is absurd that you can dominate the way you do in low tiers and anet has no clue. So yes its absurd and the current system is good because it shows each server why imbalanced coverage and pop match is absurd.
Have fun.
Nothing against you folks from SF, but this should be moved to recruitment sub-forum.
Lack of any anet or mod attention to wvw isn’t an excuse to post it here.
Maybe there is an underlying core issue that anet has to address? Like population difference? Until those are addressed its only fun to play different servers when they aren’t rolling you personally. Is this system better than the old one? Yes due to free server transfers being gone. Is the matchup system still absurd when it matches servers which should not be matched? yes
Does it make business sense to loose a lot of WvW player? No,
But incompetence is incompetence.
What is the point of farming wxp and karma? Karma is easy to get anyway, and what do you spend wxp on? Its so easy to get as to not mater at all. You can get more from orr or champ farm in frostg and such as it is. Just not sure I understand people farming karma/wxp in wvw. Don’t you actually want to have fights and I don’t know, fun?
I think you will have to set it up and send e-mail to anet community manager like Martin
to organize it. That is what spvp players did.
SF vs ET v DR
Not so terrible as some of the other fights, but still very poor. ET is fine as we can give them a good fight at prime-time. SF is zerging all over the place. No fault of theirs, as the matchup system is rubish. Have to give them props for not spawn camping much too. So, bad matchup, but no fault of the other servers.
What is really looking fun is playing vs servers like BP in the near future. I am sure it will be fun as they try to keep 500 points and we ninja fully upgraded keeps and towers from under them. I am sure it will be fun for them babysitting monochrome BLs.
Fantasy GW2? Moa WvW Racing?
Maybe he could actually visit WvW forum and address WvW players concerns about content that was previewed? Ty for the preview, but it would be helpful if some of the core issues were acknowledged or at least some attention given to wvw forum.
The main issue atm is that small guilds have to do guild bounties to get to any guild content. Maybe its about time to take the gates away and let us choose what content we can do and when. ty
I’m sure there are thousands of threads on this already, but I want to throw my hat into the ring.
I never really post threads of doom and gloom about an upcoming patch, because I feel like people in general tend to overreact, and for the most part it all works itself out in the long run.
However, I have to say that after reading the blog post about leagues I’m feeling very down about WvW and this game in general at this point, and here’s why.
I spend a vast majority of my playing time in WvW. It’s what I find fun in GW2 and roaming in groups with my guildmates or solo is always my favorite activity. We play on a lower tier server (Gates of Madness) so we’ve had our ups and downs, and we’ve always been sort of an underdog server, which we like. Until recently we had actually built up a pretty decent group of dedicated players that were helping us improve and move up the rankings.
Leagues have already destroyed that progress, as all but ourselves and maybe 1-2 other WvW guilds have left.
With that said, here are my concerns about the new system.
1) Getting rolled every week is incredibly frustrating and could easily take the fun out of the game completely. I’m all for underdogs and I love the thought of pulling GoM out of the ashes, but the fact is everyone will be on 1-2 servers and we’ll get destroyed. This will be the case for a lot of lower tier servers, and it will only encourage even more top heavy servers.
2) Even if we DID want to transfer to a server with a shot, it would just turn into a massive zerg fest 24/7, which is also no fun.
3) This greatly encourages PvE players with no investment in WvW to not only transfer, but get rewards for doing NOTHING! We don’t get rewards if we don’t participate in Living Story content, nor do we get PvP rewards if we don’t play in tournaments. Why should everyone else get the rewards that we fight for day in and day out without lifting a finger?
4) This is probably my biggest concern. A quote from the GW2 blog post: “To further incentivize spending your points we will not be introducing any new ability lines during the season, nor shall we be making any other changes to WvW, with the exception of bug fixes, until the season concludes”
This means we’ll get no improvements to WvW at all and be stuck with a pretty stale game mode for a long period of time. I’ve tried to defend ANet before when people claimed that WvW was the bottom of the barrel in terms of their priorities, but this change makes it pretty clear to me that they aren’t really interested in what our player base wants.
I’m really scared that this change will make me want to stop playing the game altogether, and I’m pretty sure there are a LOT of other players that will do the same.
Great post. The population and coverage imbalance is already bad, but with this system its going to get worse. The annoying thing is that it doesn’t really add anything from a design standpoint. There is already a ladder with servers fighting for the top spot. Its already something to go for. I think the designers working on this have forgotten that first and foremost it is a game that should be fun. It is not fun to be destroyed by a server with 3x your population. It is not fun to destroy a server with 3x less of yous. WvW is currently lacking pop and coverage balance.
yes to buff on own borderland only. No 3xbuff.
I am not sure about the stat bonus. It might work in conjunction with outmaned buff, but as it stands it might just invite more uneven fights.
NO to the League system.
more like weird uncles from across the street
Great fun in dr bl. We didn’t fare that well vs SF, but we had a lot of fun fighting you, even if some of your zergs were hard to avoid.
BS, you buggers should get your own catapults:P We thought we were friends and would share in the glory of SW tower. Haven’t laughed so hard in WvW in a while.
You should have heard the hilarity that went on during that ninja attempt in ts.
Have fun and ignore the trolls.Lion of the Wind
RgTgI’m assuming you are from ET. If you are the high WvW rank commander that leads the large ET zerg I have a question for you.
It’s clear SF has by far the highest population in this match up. Why on earth does ET takes it’s largest force and attacks the lowest population (DR) borderland? Are you afraid of anything other than PvD or situations where you don’t outnumber your opponent?
It’s interesting how every match up there is always one server that has double the other two servers population and yet every week it continues to be a 2v1 where the 1 is always the least populated server. I go into SF BL and there is no one ever attacking it other than camp/sentry flippers.
Erm what?
It was me from RgTg and 2 other DR from CV and SoCo trying to ninja SW tower from SF during reset. While SF was creating 2 orange swords on bay and gar. While we were in the ninja spot awaiting to be rolled over by SF zerg we saw bs guild coming to us but not attacking We decided that since we had no chance vs them and they weren’t attacking us we would let them take the tower. Or maybe backstab them while the were on lord;) And when we moved in contemplating our backstabbing hijinks , we saw that ET zerg just rolled in through the gate. You can imagine how much gold was going on in ts. Himm who was on the cata didn’t even realize that me and Yorgy were talking about bs standing near us and dancing with them. That was hilarious.
So, um yes we are from DR.:) Been here since day 1.

I am sure they will add them back for the league. To make it more fun.
Funny story, but the picture looked the same in tier 8
At no point did I, or would I have, said “Fair competition” WvW is not intended to be “fair”. There are servers with more people, there are servers with better organizations and that will always be the case. This competition will be about showing how your world can do over a defined period of time, against a variety of opponents. SPvP is the part of our game that aims for a completely level playing field. WvW would never be able to match that goal.
It amuses me that through sheer stubbornness you can so adamantly stick to such a terrible opinion. You are trying to hard to promote competition, you bring in PPT, you try and make the game about PPT, you make match ups that have winners, you add a glicko system, you divide the servers into leagues. But at no point whatsoever did you consider trying to make WvW, because for some odd reason you think it shouldnt be.
Why exactly is there competition in a format that isnt fair? If the objective is to “play for fun” then why is it you are trying to design wvw more about winning than about actually having fun? You make no attempts to dilute zerg (buffing an AC with a 50 man cap in order to promote people to run with more than 50 is not fixing zerg). You make no attempts at balancing any of the classes with respect to wvw (hi ranger). You make no attempt to make game mechanics enjoyable (most sieges are long drawn out battles of boredom and turtling).
Every patch you do, to try and fix match making, is simply a band aid to the core problem, that no match making in the world can make a fair match up out of servers with such a disparity in their wvw populations. Even now your currently designed system has the r13 server matched with the r1 server in EU. You said that match ups would stabalize over months and yet they never did. Basically you were wrong. We told you that you would be wrong when you launched the system, but you were stuborn, apparently Anet must know more magically, yet you know nothing. All the hidden data you collect could not help you, cause the data would show balanced match ups arent possible, but somehow you see this as fine.
Does it not worry you that such a large majority of WvW players stopped carying about who wins? Stopped caring about points? Isnt that a testament to how flawed your system is when there is a huge fracture in the WvW community, a portion of which has no care whatsoever to play the system you are forcing on us.
I might actually care to play to win, if winning was based on any merit of skill and execution. But why should I supply starve a server when I go sleep and they rack up 1700 supply + waypoints overnight etc.
The WvW structure of winning is flawed at the core, and your statements only reflect that you dont understand this at a fundamental level. Nobody can be bothered “proving” themselves against servers who win over population. Being the underdog once or twice is fun, but the objective of the game should never be to show how strong an underdog you are, it should be about realistically winning….
VoTF may be widely regarded as an open field or GvG guild, but I actually do want to play to win. It is simply that you provide me with a game format where winning means nothing and is based on no merits of my own, so over time I simply learned to ignore it. But there was a time we pulled 12h+ raids daily on NA servers the first 5 months to try and keep up ppt. I have experienced the side of the game that plays to win, its simply completely broken and you have done nothing to fix any of it in over a year.
Agree completely. I think Devon and upper anet management should do a review of wvw by playing it on low tier servers that are matched with higher tier servers. See how they like it and talk about making games that are fun.
What happens is that you wake up spawncamped by a zerg with 3x orb bonus.
Good luck.
I’m considering moving to a new server. My current server’s rank means it will be guaranteed not to finish in the top three of either NA league. The knowledge that simply by being on the wrong server I will be missing out on rewards and loot is very disheartening to me. I don’t see WvW as balanced or competitive enough to justify giving out rewards for people who stack on servers with better coverage – this is something they should never do in such an imbalanced competition which ideally wants to encourage players spreading across servers not stacking on the same ones.
I’m personally sick of the tier one meta but with the new changes to the Bloodlust mechanic emphasising the need to have coverage on multiple maps and rewards for stacking on one server (lower rank servers will likely see far less relevance with this mechanic due to an inability to competitively compete for multiple points on three different maps) in addition to the fact that all servers in a league will play each other, so uber stacked servers will play against rank 12 servers leading to several weeks of guaranteed blowouts. This whole thing is a disaster and the wrong direction for the format. I was hoping the devs would actively design more content to encourage players to spread across servers but everything they have done and are doing in the last year seems to make higher ranked servers snowball in desirability. They are moving in a direction which further favours server stacking, not one which equalises the experience for all servers.
If you’re in NA and not on SoR or BG now, it’s probably time to consider transferring there. If not, you will likely get stomped over the next few weeks and have close to zero chance of getting good league rewards.
That makes no sense. You realize that you’re going to lose money by transferring right? You also realize that you have you have to complete the meta-events to qualify for the season chest – so you can’t just log in once to WvW and get the chest.
No one should transfer because of this tournament – except of course high tier people who want to even out the population for some fun fights
It’s a one time transfer. The current WvW system is setting up dynastys. The top servers are mostly stable, I doubt we will see SoR or BG drop out of the top three in the next year so and with 7 week seasons, I suspect you will get multiple wins by transferring. We aren’t talking a single season worth of rewards, we are talking several seasons of rewards. It’s true that if you had to transfer every season to stay on top it wouldn’t make sense, but I doubt that’s the case. .
There’s going to be a lot of kittens in this post because Devon won’t answer a simple kittening question that is perhaps the cause of all this god kitten worry and this post indicates it perfectly.
God kittening kitten it Devon, why the kitten don’t you tell us if this is an ongoing thing or if this is a single “tournament”. It sounds to me like it is a single tournament but all the worry and complaints are mostly based around the assumption that it is an ongoing thing.
From the blog post I felt like they are making it a recurring event. So as soon as one ends, next one starts.
