Please no commander wxp lines, etc. Its just a tool and should be used by the community to organize. It shouldn’t be some sort of personal progression!
Otherwise you will introduce commander wxp trains and such. Look at what a commander tag is for. Its there to make organization of groups easier. It should help organize group game play that is not a blob gameplay! So no buffs to commander/squad stats please.

Its like saying that you need to pay 10g to be able to group with people. Its not helpful.
We need to make it so each person can choose what commanders they want to see, and which ones they want to put on ignore. But yes guys, slow down with your progression ideas, the commander option should not be a part of a progression based system. It should just be a QOL feature.

Izy, I still think that you should do some small upgrades to the commander tag. Something that can be done quick. Like extra colors and guild only tag. But your point about having compact system is valid.

I think that commander system should be rolled into the guild system. Guilds can research a commander title in art of war 5 and it is also limited per guild. So you can only have a limited number of commanders per guild. For example 3 or 4 max. Each tag should have a guild symbol/mark to show which guild the commander is from.
In WvW guilds provide major forces and most commanders are part of WvW guilds, so it won’t be an issue. Also in pve big guilds run a lot of events and their commanders are usually decent. This will cut down on random troll commanders running solo in wvw. You can still have the old blue tag too. But please make an option of disabling them in map view.

I know a lot of people want a big system for this. But I say keep it simple. It should be one of the main features of the system that makes claiming objectives by guilds important in WvW. So look into making it one system that works together well

Here are some questions I’ve been wondering about.

How often do people actually join squads and use the features that are there? (4 different way point markers, /supplyinfo). What would make you join squads more?

How much is spies a problem with commander system?

Should the commander icon be shown above the commanders head to the commander?

Should we allow a WvW upgrade to see enemy commanders (not on the map just on screen) ?

I know that for guild runs if we have more than 3 groups running we join squad on our driver in WVW. This way we don’t see other commanders and our driver has our supply info. This of course would be easier with a guild tag that is only visible to specific guild. Still its a good thing for a commander to have info on supply and have squad chat. Most guild groups that run with a tag join their own squad. Also I know that many pug players join squad. I would recommend a sort of magic find buff like +10 or so for joining a squad. Will get people to join if they are already on a commander. Will need to be close to your commander though.

Spying is a problem. As is supply trolling. But I don’t think you can deal with it in game. A spy will still find a way to scout out a commander, and hiding them would be difficult for new players and pve players to follow. Make an option to only have it visible in a radius/in a guild/map wide?

Don’t understand your third question. Do you mean to make the taco more visible?
It might be good. Or might be a bit annoying. In most cases you don’t want players to blindly follow an icon. I think a ray of light coming down would be nice. Or some aura thing.

I don’t think making commanders visible to the enemy is a good idea. But maybe make a scout tree in wvw ranks and make it an ability for scouts to buy with wvw ranks. This way a scout can call an enemy commander and he/she can be targeted.

All this whining from BP actually is making me want to do a last day alliance, just like we did to SBI.

After all, if they’re gonna whine either way, may as well give them something to whine about!

Although, I’d rather all three servers set aside their differences and accept a sort of cease fire, so those we haven’t gotten the meta achievements (somehow), can. Maybe just have a karma train day in EBG or something.

There is no alliance between the serves, but YB is prioritizing BP, that is clear to everyone. I see us putting much more troops into BPBL than EB. Also I don’t think BP has been complaining about double team that much. Yeah there were a couple of trolls, but that is not the whole of BP population.

I really hope that at some point we lay back a bit on BP and let them get a bit of a foothold to make this match fun for everyone . Karma train is not the answer. They are good for leveling alts, and some pve peeps to learn bad habits in wvw, but they are not fun to play. I was actually very happy yesterday when EB smashed 3 of YB karma trains. Was well done and I am sure taught valuable lessons to the train people.
I do agree that we can all have a day or two at the end where we can do karma trains and such, but not the whole week. EB is a good example of solid defense this week, and hopefully a good place to practice offense for our groups.

I think its more that we are careful to get a lead on BP as they are very persistent and like FA can catch up during the week. I am sure that if we get a decent lead Yaks will not target one of the servers. Of course some guilds might have their preferences as to what side to attack. We just realize that both EB and BP are very potent servers and can still kick us in the teeth.

I didnt say that. But I am pointing out the hole in SBI’s argument that we cant win without Ebay’s help. Ebay did play smart and it helped us indirectly. What I’m pointing out is that without Ebay’s help during OFFPEAK hours we managed to hold on to a substantial lead.

Could it possibly be that the reason you were able to hold that lead during offpeak hours is because ebay wasn’t attacking you at all and instead was fighting us and only us.

The thing is, EB did win this match. For them to have such an impact on the matchup, they should be congratulated.

Yeap, the only problem with 2v1 is when that 1v1 actually ends up happening….

YB doesn’t realize it yet, but after seasons are over, they’re most likely going to be put into match up’s against FA and SBI, I can tell you right now… YB will get focused hard by SBI when leagues are over, I’m also sure that FA isn’t going to hand hold them either and god help EB if they’re ever thrown into a matchup again with SBI.

That’s fine. We’ve lost to you before and will do it again. I mean, we do not have problems suiciding off of cliffs to deny kills when a server’s k-train rolls in. I’m sure you will chest thump and talk about how better you are than us now that you have your 4+ hour queues. It’ll be ok! I also know that we won’t be pulling over time like we did this week in that future match up and will play like regular.

So, gun for us. If it makes you feel better that is all good. Yaks will still remember this week and the fun that was had and your vets will lament the lack of good fights.

There have been a lot of SBI putting a lot of hours and effort into this week and I dont want to take away from what theyre doing, but you are right. A lot of it was because of the 2v1, and Yaks resorting to outright cheating. It’s difficult to get your casual/pug population motivated when that stuff happens. I’ll admit, if I had got into the ESO beta that’s where I would be.

Granted, I’m a transfer from TC last week so I don’t have any particular loyalty to SBI or any guilds yet.

Again, the siege troll/destruction of all the golems was done to Yaks first by SBI with [bags] tag. this is when some idiots from our server(I guess) went to you and started doing the same. As has been stated already Yaks as a server doesn’t stand for this kind of behavior and I know that a lot of us reported people shown in screenshots that you provided to help anet check their records, and ban any of the parties involved. I really doubt that any of the individuals involved acted with approval of their servers/guilds.
Its like someone using a fly hack. Report and get their kitten banned as fast as possible!

You know what…enough of this crap about YB being under populated. it’s BS, from this day forward. No more about not being able to field an overwhelming force. that’s BS too. Now what I give props to YB is in siege, they know how to siege up a house. SBI population doesn’t yet… and that’s where you all are killing SBI.. not in open field fights, Lets face it, YB is basic in Open field, SBI is better at it. No biggie, but when it comes to siege fighting, YB has SBI slaughtered, and when it comes to PPT, sieging up a place and keeping it sieged is key. so huge props to YB. What the heck does YB care if EB hills is taken? unless they are going to give it back to EB when they move on, and that happened a lot. So no more denying it, just stop, it was a great strategy. It worked for YB, not quite to EB’s expectation it seems. But you know what, karma is a B$%&h and what goes around comes around, comes with the territory, and it’s going to happen again and again. SBI We really need to educate people on where to place siege and empower people to use the siege that’s placed and to lay down siege when attacking enforced keeps. 60% of the fights we’ve had with YB showed our naivety with siege tactics

You have some of the best dedicated siege people in game on your server, and very good scouts/guards. Maybe you should appreciate them a bit more and use them effectively. Look at FA, they talk a lot about open field, but their siege and scouting is also good. Its not one or the other, use both.

I think doing commander functionality discussion this week is a good idea. Can we do this and then switch back to pop imbalance one? This way people and devs have a week of rest from a very hard topic and we might actually get some useful wvw progress with commander discussion. Pop imbalance is still a major issue, but keeping this discussion going extra week isnt going to help. Better to take a week break and come back to it with a fresh look.

I am from YB, but I would recommend DB or CD since you want a server with strong Oceanic krewe. Both are decent servers with good night shift and they need good guilds on NA to compete with other servers in Silver.

I remember you guys from while back and think the way you play will work very well on BP. They have a lot of guilds that run similar to you and would work well with you I think. The only problem with BP is that their night shift isn’t as strong as say DB or CD, but in the end there is always a server with better coverage.

YB isn’t currently looking for NA guilds as we seem to have a decent pop for where we are and don’t want to move up tiers to higher pop. We would need more Oceanic guilds at this point. However, its your call and If you need any info you can ask on our forums or one of the commanders in LA. I would recommend transferring one person and doing a few dry runs in wvw to see how you like a server.

TLDR: CD or DB for strong oceanic.
BP for a play style that I think fits you.

Too much generalization going on in here. Please remember that if one person from a server does/write something stupid it doesn’t mean that everyone there agrees.
Its been a great week fighting and I don’t care which server is stronger or which wins.
Keep up the fights and all will be happy.

Props to SBI siegers, scouts and supply walkers. Its been getting harder to drain you guys of supply and keep you low on that siege. Same for EBay this week, whatever SBI is saying, EBays have been bringing their a game on all week, and considering SBI numbers and coverage I still can’t believe that EBay is still hanging in there.

Omigod, no one is sending spies to do anything. Just some random idiot doing that. I agree it sucks and we all hate people who do that. But really, this can not be the first time this has happened to your server. Happens to us all the time. Even tonight by some disgruntled Yaks, or so he claimed (do I believe him? don’t really care tbh. could be someone from any server, even our own). But no one really cared. It was really bad when we were in tier 1 but every now and then it happens again. Report them and hopefully they get banned.

I don’t think there is a server drive to use cheaters. These should be reported asap and terminated from the game. If someone doing it to you guys too, please report. We don’t need people who do this on our server.

Even if you win, what do you really win? A 2v1 match up? I can assure you that you aren’t hurting our feelings. Win or lose, we’ll still be out their fighting the good fight. Score is a reflection of map politics and coverage, neither of which are anything to be proud of at the end of a match.

As far as toxic /m chat in wvw is concerned what you see on YB isn’t bad. We had maybe a few ragequiting karma train commanders and a few backseat commanders arguing in chat. Thats not bad and has nothing to do with leagues(which I hate with passion) or even FA or SBI. A week before we were destroying BP the same way and I am sure they had same issues. Which are that people like to assign blame if they are outnumbered. It is an issue that anet has to change, but it is not bad on YB.
The fights vs FA and SBI have been great so far. Lots of fights, great showing by yaks everywhere even if a bit disorganized. All in all I think we aren’t in a position to whine about other server numbers/coverage as we are probably the 3rd pop server in silver when our fairweathers show up.

kitten yaks doesn’t have any skills groups just massive zerg after zerg. SoCo is the closest thing you guys got and they are not even from your server props to them though. Great fights every time. Hope SoCo can rub off on yaks make them more fun to fight! Ebay, always fun to fight you guys good work! Thanks, Man! SoCo has been having a blast out there with everyone. We have old server mates on both servers we are playing this week and we have had some fantastic run-ins with them! The Orange Charr /waving is me. SoCo experiences a rumble of excitement when we come along one of our old mates while we are out. Even some that you would never expect

I will have to disagree with you on a couple points.

1. SoCo is very much from YB now. We are happy and loving what we have at YB for a community and WvW mates. I like to think that all our other ex family feels the same where they found a new home. From WvW to hanging in LA, SoCo is at home.

2. There isn’t a single member of SoCo who hasn’t learned some good ish from the great thinkers on YB. YB upped our game, and so did running into our old server mates. What we have with YB is a pretty great marriage of different WvW methods not only working together, but taking each other into consideration. What makes it better is that after just a few weeks YB knows how to use us, and we know how to use YB. Don’t be mistaken tho, we (YB) have other roamers out and about. We work with them often. They posses the ability to stay focused so their team doesn’t get caught out in the open waiting for me to stop running in the wrong direction.

Lots of wondrous runins with Lost, VP, and numerous others.

Thanks to everyone that’s helped to provide a very crazy week of war.

Like Glob, ODG , Hvc, BV and some I am probably forgetting due to old age. I think they are much more serious about this than we are. Your experience with us will vary greatly depending on levels of intoxication, Yorgy sing alongs, or total lack of anyone to give orders in a group.:) I am a proponent of following anyone who is taller than me personally.

Shout out to Vox and Ash from SoCo. Vox wiped some of us like a we weren’t there in the ruins. Ash gave us some good laughs with neat ganking. Were both of you at the Varg earlier too? I know 2 of us went there while ss was on timer to see why there were red names, and boom we are dead. Not even sure what hit us. I am making an educational cartoon now on why going to Varg is bad:)

Just to be clear. Most of people on Yak find spawn camping with or without siege sad and stay away from that. It keeps you guys away from actually playing the game, and we have no one to play vs. Shout out to the roamers playing in and around blood lust areas yesterday.

Match up’s that is this one sided should allow for the other 2 servers to have some kinda Auto Alliance After all for one server to completely win is boring for them and during most of this match up it seemed they could block us from our spawns on all 4 maps, Siegerazer is a one time use thing break out into a swarm of 50 people to get smacked down Bloodlust in this scanario with the other server just over powered and have nothing else to do but hold bloodlust points so now there over powered in manpower and firepower it’s like why even play wvw in these match up’s. Come up with more creative small things for balance having the out maned buff ally you to the randomly roaming pve monsters. Even when were in another match up and were winning this badly I feel bad so it’s not just getting the beat down im thinking about it’s how unbalanced wvw that is bothering me. While the Ability to get utter defeated is one thing, things are so bad now if there been a way to loose our citadel and we littely spawn into 50 people killing us while in load screen it would have happened in this match up it was that badly one sided. But to SBI good fight guys it’s not like you could go easy on us you needed to have things to do also as it’s your wvw as well just again anets inability to balance a system were players can jump servers vs issues created by the ability of people to move servers IE someone that started gw’s 2 on a wrong server and find out there friend is on another small example but I do think something needs to be done add more pve elements have wvw coop server day to defeat Zhaitan ect in a more epic battle that what is the fight given to us in PVE Orr dungeon ect Something. Kinda off topic but Tequatl > Zhaitan ..does anyone find a Problem with that? Idea’s comments as this was just to make people think about what if hopefully the developers see’s this also.

Not sure if putting more npcs in is the answer. The problem is population and coverage. All they have to do is have a decent matching system ,pve events in wvw are kind of pointless.

Its an exploit either by use of zoom hack or by faulty targeting.
Saying that its done without an actual hack doesn’t mean anet shouldn’t fix it.

Maybe in 3 years time they will. Of course we will have Ascended Golems flying in the sky and bombing all the siege.

How about limiting inc damage to 1 player to say 5 ppl max? The number can be adjusted.

It might help smaller teams deal with big zergs.
It might help with lowering a number of calculations made per player.

On a flip side its still a limitation in the system that can be abused the same way the stacking abuses aoe cap.

My guess is they think changing up the system may refresh it and adding in rewards will bring more players in. Both are probably accurate, but a lot of animosity has developed from players who have been routinely mismatched.

We’ve already seen the effects of mismatched matchups. Players have been clamoring for them tighten the matchmaking range. ArenaNet is responding by making it significantly larger. THIS is where the animosity has come from: ArenaNet’s constant refusal to respond to any criticism and fix any of the problems.

I mean people asked for commander tag color options, a seemingly easy fix, and they ignored it and changed the red/blue/green tints on a whim for no apparent reason.

While I agree with commander tag and the dumb changes. The changes to the colors on the map are for colorblind people. While I am not colorblind, I understand the need to do it and approve of the change. Would have been nice to set them to old colors too tough.

If they did listen to us, it’s only because of drastically declining WvW numbers (as stated in Devon’s infamous alpha forum post).

To head it off at the pass, there have not been drastically declining WvW numbers, or even marginally declining numbers. WvW continues to be as strong as it has been over the past several months. We made some decisions internally and were able to accommodate changes that it didn’t seem feasibly originally and that’s why the changes that are going to be announced later this week happened.

Whatever metrics you using are probably artificially inflated and someone needs to look at them, i’m guessing your including people that just blip in from pve and use the lion’s arch portal as a shortcut, i’m also guessing your including people that show up poke around for 10-20 min and leave and never come back, there is something inflating what you are looking at…because anyone who has played for any length of time on multiple servers can tell you for a FACT that the number of people from 6 months ago in WvW actively playing IS NOT the same as it is now….

Once again…without trying to absolutely bash the whole team, I would tear into that data and REALLY look at it, there is something wrong with it….the reality doesn’t match what is going on in whatever report you’re looking at. T2 server’s can’t even queue maps on reset night now, when 3 months ago there was couple hour queue on every map. I’d assume the same goes for servers under T2…there is NO WAY you can sit here tell me the numbers or going up…it doesn’t jive my man…

I can say for the lower tiers that the number of people actively playing is lower atm.
This includes off and peak hours. There are still times when you can see as many as 20 people on the home BL map, but very rarely. The metrics that they are using are pretty strange. Its sort of like spvp team saying that there is more people playing spvp while the que is getting longer each time. Whatever is being said the reality is that from his attitude prior to whatever change is coming, he was dead set on this system.
Now the changes will hopefully be for the good. I am pretty sure that the only reason Devon would adjust the system would be due to metrics, and not community feedback.

If you look at the link, the match between ranks 1-3 is actually quite balanced.

Just because TC is in match with Rank 1 and 3, this doesn’t make you T1. This “tier” idea doesn’t really apply anymore because the matching is random. You don’t “earn” a match with servers in rank 1-3, you get “lucky” to be matched with them or they get “unlucky” and get matched with you instead of a more competitive server match.

Rating and rank just means that rank 1 and 3 outcover your militia akin to you outcovering rank 5 and 6 servers. Your coverage rating basically shows you are still about 100 rating points away from having performance and coverage needed to be competitive in a match with rank 1-3 servers in the same way rank 5 and 6 are about 100 points away from being able to have a decent match with rank 4. A 5-7 match would be the closest to even at the top 12 currently within 100 rating points of eachother, similar to rank 1-3.

Rating are quite an accurate display of coverage and competitiveness. Any match that occurs bettwen servers that are within 100 rating of each other have fairly balanced matches. You can see the same effect in the 22-24 match, all servers are within 100 rating and they had a close match. Any time a server has over 100 rating disparity in its match, there is likely a blowout.

There are obvious exceptions such as SBI’s rating due to something destabilizing(xfers, better coordination, server rally, ect) their old rating. Similar things happened with Kaineng, Sea of Sorrows and Dragonbrand as they received large influxes of players at various points in the past.

Just to clarify 22-24 match is not balanced. Its just a blowout in different timezones.
There are literally 10 people max on a borderland and the only reason ET isn’t obliteration fc and dr is because they are playing musical towers with us and don’t seem to care for ppt.

Silver league is being merged with Gold to provide tier 1 more variety
