That’s pretty much it. Most people see Thieves as “Spam ALL the Skills!”, but in reality they’re quite the opposite. You need to manage your initiative and not overspend it or you’ll be handicapping yourself.

Never fought that Champion but if he’s that much trouble for normal dodging why not get a sword and use Infiltrator’s Strike. That way you can just briefly retreat when the Nageling stomps and dive right back in afterwards. Or Shadowstep if you really want to keep your weapons. (Though the cooldown on Shadowstep is quite long.) If you look around, Thief has a few skills to get him/her back on his/her feet.

I personally like my S/D set. I use Infiltrator’s Strike and Flanking Strike more then any other skills. I find Flanking Strike great because a lot of enemies have obvious tells before they attack. Also good for getting rid of pesky boons. As for the sword itself as a weapon, I like the wide sweep of it’s attack.

Nice and all but it sounds like it’d make things stale, with certain skills being more popular then others. I like steal as it is right now. The abilities it grants are good (I especially like ones that stealth me and gunk shot), and when you start applying traits to it, it gets even better. I’m a S/D Thief myself and I love having it as an option when I dive into combat for a quick initiative boost [Kleptomaniac] and an extra skill option following.

I’m still kinda new to Ele, but I’ve been watching vids on youtube of D/D Eles and they’ve gotta be the fastest class I’ve seen in game, zipping around the field with Ride the Lightning, and Burning Speed and unleashing a barrage of skills before racing off again.

To add onto the responses to the second point, in the book, Ghosts of Acsalon, Gullik Oddsson, a 9 foot tall norn was able to get the drop on Dougal while in a drunken stupor.

Wouldn’t removing downed make zerging easier? The rushers need to account for your downed state too. Why not group up with some friends and cover eachother while you finalize your kills. Get coordinated and act as a unit.
