2. Do NOT place your knowledge base/experience on others in shoddy “Everyone Knows” science.
3. ANet has more metrics and more information than you ever will about the over-all feeling of the start of the early game.

Legendary weapon damage type

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Dual.8953

It only effects the death animation. There is no elemental damage/resistance in the game.

There are mobs immune to certain types of damage like many immune to fire etc etc

Actually they’re immune to specific Conditions. My Firey Dragon Sword kills Embers just as well as it kills Ice Elementals. Same with my Ele’s Lava Fonts and firebreath.
Elemental damage is purely for death animations.

Maybe getting kicked could just create a copy of the instance for the kicked member so they don’t lose progress either.

Still a good change though.

I fancied that idea for a while but the more I think of it, the more apparent if becomes that copy instances would be very exploitable able dungeons sellers. It’d need something to keep that in check.

Ele has a lot of high DPS options. Staff with Fire Attunement alone give them the highest DPS, and they still can use Lightning Hammer and Frost Bow.
All they lose from the FGS nerf is it ability to boost group DPS 5 times above any other tactic.

Dueling Option - Forgotten?

I hope you understand bragging does increase competitiveness, do you not know that?

If people brag then pwn them and brag back?

Hmmm.

Well mentally the original bragger will realize that there will always be someone better than them and that its better not to brag because others will brag back. This being said bragging still does increase competitiveness, if there’s an kitten who is bragging someone else have motivation to get better and pwn them.

As a guy who’s played plenty of PvP games, I rarely see anyone who’s kitteny and loud before a duel, be any less boisterous after losing. If anything, losing usually makes them worse, where they’ll try to publicly slander you, claiming you fought unfairly in an attempt to aggressively protect their wounded pride.

As a WvWvW player i dont give a kitten of FGS! My fear is about Tornado!
I hope they are not going to disable Tornado+Meteor Shower combo or eles are left without any good elite skill . This is mosly the only reason to use tornado for an ele ( except push down ppl from the rope ! XDD ) . Plus i use it only for the duration of the meteor shower , once meteor shower is finished i switch out of tornado, that’s all the tornado is good for.

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Tornado

Weapon strength is set at 811.
Base Power is tripled.
Base Precision is doubled.
Base Vitality is doubled.

  • Due to to the power multiplier while under the effects of the transform, Tornado can be used with damage over time skills like Meteor Shower as damage is calculated dynamically.

There’s little doubt they’re targetting Meteornado, and you’ve basically described the exact reason why, right down to the mentality of users.

I hope they do something like, give the tornado unstrippable stability, protection and swiftness (like some bosses have) and increase the knockback and target limit so Tornado becomes this skill that scatters stacked zergs. Maybe they could get creative and make Tornado launch foe high enough to incur some minor falling damage.

FGS controversy

Dual.8953

meteornado isn’t even close. And any fgs is used by a teammate as well.

Ah, I see. I thought that Tornado doesn’t have cast-time, so you can chain MS->Tornado and get full meteor hits. Seems like what it does is just boost the last few hits in MS to triple power.

Meteornado is likely a PvP/WvW change as it’s way more useful on Players than Firey Rush. (Obviously)
I think the problem with FGS is it’s just so much better than everything else that teams stack Eles for it and demand Eles to run it. Firey Rush’s potential dps is head, shoulders and knees above everything else, and Ele doesn’t even need it to be amazing in Dungeons. They could remove FR and Eles would still be the highest Dps class in the game, with Fire Staff, Frost Bow and Lightning Hammer.

Maybe the price increase is a tiny bit in answer to the ‘anyone can buy them’ dilemma. If those that truly use them don’t want to spend the Gold, maybe, at least, some of those that have no real use for them will be discouraged from purchasing them, as well.

Who knows?

That was my first thought. 100G used to be a major investment, but now anyone who plays a moderate amount can get 100G now adays. The high price was supposed to be an entry barrier to disuade players who weren’t serious about it, it’s likely the price hike is in direct response to inflation.

Although it is appreciable that a lot of people think about these things, what is overlooked here is that the zerk gear mentality isn’t a GW2 community demand. It’s a community response to what is missing; solid mob AI that synergise themselves appropriately to produce the sorts of encounters that require mixed or more defensive gear. Rather than nerfing the gear, the AI needs improving (difficult ask, but it is what it is) to the point that penalises reliance on zerk gear. This isn’t to say, “moar mob hp!”, but better mob mechanics.

This is literally what I’ve been saying since forever. Make dungeon mobs act like mobs in GW1 with player skills and dodge mechanics.

And watch as the casual masses flood the forums with complaints and take their money from the gem store elsewhere.

There’s a reason this game is pretty easy mode when it comes to content and that reason is they don’t want to alienate players that might not be so hardcore or invested to really improve themselves and master difficult content but who do invest regularly in gems on the gem store.

You can’t have your cake and eat it.

The best they can do is add more hardcore content on top of the casual-oriented content to try to keep the hardcore players happy too.

But they don’t really care about their hardcore-oriented players that much and there have been plenty of examples of that – I’ll just mention one :

Dunno about that. You love to use that excuse a lot but Anet has made changes that are “bad for the player but good for the game before” (See the trait change). Also this is isolated to dungeon. The vast majority of the casuals stay in the open world.

Player’s only attempt Teq when they’re making a very organized attempt and they’ll spend hours gathering their forces and getting organized because Teq is that hard. Claw is easy in comparision. Everything is already viable, just not optimal. The gap between damage output on gear stats does not need to be decreased. If you have trouble dodging or want to RP as a tank/healer you shouldn’t have damage even close to a glass cannon, you should have to gear and trait ‘properly’ if you want to output good dps otherwise there is no risk/reward.

Unfortunately being viable in this game just isn’t enough in party gameplay, thanks to the game’s community. The only way non-meta players get slots in parties in this game is if they’re lucky or make their own party (And even then I’ve heard of party leaders being kicked from their own runs for not adhering to the meta), and the community doesn’t even let them take pride in their build. They only care if they “think” your build is useful to them.

And guess how meta players get slots? Making their own parties.

Do you think “zerk only ping gear” lfgs just appear by mandate of god or something? Of course not.

The difference is Meta built players are allowed virtually everywhere. No Zerk allowed parties are practically non-existant. Zerk only parties are dime a dozen.
Unmarked parties can even be assumed to be zerk parties.

Please tell me I’m just misreading something/not getting it due to it being late and the game isn’t IP-blocked for EU/NA

Not that I heard. People thought they were because of the DDoS attack, but it seems to be that Sega combated the attack by having ISP’s block PSO2 instead. They didn’t feel incline to give those ISP’s the all clear afterwards is what I’ve been hearing. So if you can’t connect to their server, it’s likely because of your own ISP.

Dual.8953

There is no profession issue that is big enough to change the whole battle mechanism from gw2 to holy trinity. Sure necro’s can’t cleave, rangers can’t range, but those are only required in speedrun/smooth run. Make your own lfg, get to know people who hate meleeing, and run dungeons/fractals with them.
Stop trying to turn gw2 into another holy trinity game because there are plenty out there. I don’t want a healer, or a dps, or even a tanker. I want to play with active combat system with competent gamers who learn to dodge and heal themselves at the right moment.

Any team setup can have a smooth run. It’s just a matter of team coordination and common sense. Weapon/class/armour choice has no baring on how smooth a run is. Smooth runs are merely runs where nothing goes horribly wrong, with no baring of speed or efficiency. Speedruns are the only thing that require certain team setups, and only because the community has set a benchmark for ideal run times. This idea that you need X comp for things to go smoothly needs to go, it only serves to harm the community.

Anyways, who needs to make the game trinity to make other classes wanted. They just need to add some new types of challenges to future content. Things like Point holding endurance challenges or, for necro, mobs with lots off boons. If they had mobs with high Protection, Regen, Stabilty and Retal uptime, I’d think boon corruption would start to look appealing. Also, as they’ve gone and added a cleave to Thief’s dagger, why don’t they add one to Necro’s too, but ideally more than 2 targets at a time? It’s on the table now.

They certainly aren’t doing it just to bum runs off of other players. If anything they’re looking for unique experiences.

Also, although there are those in the meta that understand why they build the way they build, then there are the other players who blindly follow the meta, those players that actually think that you can’t do a dungeon without the meta and die instantly when something goes wrong.

Or like to experiment and get creative. Come up with new builds from the ground up. Try to see if they can make underused skills useful.
There’s not much room to experiment if you’re in the meta camp, at least not when compared to those that don’t conform to the meta. Generally the only creators within the meta are those that create the meta. Everyone else follows their lead and some of them do so blindly.

Uhh…the “meta” people experiment and get creative as well. Most of these meta builds came from A LOT of experimentation.

I said that. “Some” meta players experiment, that’s how we get guides and premade builds. The rest of them just slap on someone else’s build and let a guide make decissions for them.

Will Anet ever make Non-DPS role important?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

If they got rid of berserker and assassin stats we would all literally just bandwagon on to the third highest DPS stat combination(s). Whether this meant zealots, valkyrie, zealot/valk mix, celestial or whatever, we would just take the next highest DPS. Is it then diversity if we simply migrate to another stat?

It wouldn’t be as singular though. Zerk and Sin are the only stats in the game that have a 3/3 in damage. The others are all 2/3 or less, making them much closer together in terms of dps, meaning players would be less incline to demand a specific one, or at the very least it would vary between specs as some classes have better access to critical chance than others. The drop in dps may also erase that bubble that exists where you can deal so much dps that even active defense becomes unneeded.

Will Anet ever make Non-DPS role important?

Dual.8953

Other people seem to be looking to have a character for whom DPS is not a significant function of their build while focusing on support and/or control be as useful to the party as a DPS focused character who carries some support/control as secondary elements of their build.

wouldnt that actually be unnatural?
When you go in a fight your main aim is to kill your opponent why would you want to be kitten in doing that?

Someone mentioned this before, a combat medic isn’t issued with a knife instead of a gun just cause he has the ability to heal and thats an important point. Like wise a soldier may not be an awesome medic but can still do first aid if needs be.

Thing is Trinity works by putting limitations in place not by making roles more powerful. There is a reason you never see 3 tanks and 2 healers. or 3 healers a tank and a dps.

DPS is always king cause well thats what a fight is always about primarily.

I think the issue lies in the fact you are unable to specialize into anything but DPS in this game. Support’s stats are rare for the most part and Control has no stats whatsoever, just a handful of sigils and runes. No matter your build you’re going to do damage in this game, but damage is the only thing you can easily build into and get desirable results, due to the existence of Berserker and Assassin stats.
If the devs got rid of those two stats, I image we may see more diversity in pve builds, as the game has way more stats like Knight’s, Zealot’s and Valkyrie’s. But I doubt that would happen.

Skill Scaling.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Dual.8953

Dual.8953

Back in Guild Wars 1, Skills used to scale of specific stats in more ways than just heal x amount or damage x amount. They mostly scaled themselves on a specific attribute stat as well. For instance the old Monk skill, scaled off the Attribute, Divine Favor, and the amount of points the user had in DF actually effected how many conditions and hexs(Another condition-like debuff from GW1) the skill was able to remove.
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Contemplation_of_Purity

Would you like to see this kind of thing back in GW2? Or do you prefer the new system where everyone gets the maximum utility benefits of a skill with zero investment?

Dual.8953

Pfft. What’s gonna happen? You’ll wipe and the dungeon will boot your party out? Nope, you get infinite lives, and mobs don’t respawn. The only thing that can make a dungeon fail in this game is loss of morale (you could argue Agony as well, but that’s pretty much the only thing that creates an artificial barrier and has no baring on gear type). If you want a perfect team, why are you pugging in the first place?
You can do content in Soldiers, or Carrion or anything, and be successful. You don’t need to use meta tactics. Anet hasn’t altered the dungeon, adding codes that prevent nonmeta builds from being successful.

Ok look at it this way. Premise: you in your tanky gear all set to be inclusive. You’d like to play a dungeon but you pick up a fifth and he can’t make it past the cave troll. 2 of you respawn at the start to help him by but he keeps dying because he doesn’t know what the hell he’s doing. No one is having any fun. Most of the team is standing around doing nothing, and even when you get started you know the new guy is contributing absolutely zero.

This is exactly how many of us feel if we were to join a PUG with people using PVT or whatever nonsensical garbage. It’s not fun for anyone.

It sort of doesn’t matter since there is no way in kitten I would ever play with someone like you, but I want you to understand why it is I kick you if you join my group.

Why not adapt and kill the troll? I’m assuming this is a skip the player’s failing at.
You’re pugging with random strangers. Not everyone’s going to be a pro.
Also. When’d I say I was running tanky? Zerk/Scholar’s on my set. I’m willing to play ball, it’s just I’m also willing to adapt to different situations.

People continually make these asinine posts about how they deserve to play whatever they want and have 4 other people do the work for them. Do what you want but at least tell other people you have no desire to complete content.
