How does pvp rank matter?

in PvP

This isn’t really on topic, but you can also type /rank to show off your rank outside of sPvP matches, i know that’s the only reason i’m even PvPing as much as i am lately xD.

Well that and Turret Engi is freaking hilariously awesome in tPvP

Can you get this in sPvP? I can’t for the life of me find it at the guy, and am feeling all signet of rage atm :@

Sigil of Impact was removed from the sPvP vendor back in BWE2 or so, idk why it was removed, my guess is because glass cannons were able to do too much damage with it, especially when paired with something like a bunker who has a lot of CC.

Condi Turret build

in Engineer

Posted by: Durzlla.6295

Durzlla.6295

@Walorx, well our turrets did get buffed so that our condi damage, duration, healing power, and boon duration all increase our turrets in the respective areas, so for a condi build with the appropriate turrets (see what Anymras put) would possibly be stronger than other builds due to all the condi damage they’ll be doing.

They are still extremely weak and die to practically any AOE attack though unfortunately. Let’s hope they get more survivable in the next patch!

I haven’t noticed them being THAT squishy to be honest, they seem to do pretty well (with the exception of rocket and rifle turrets, but i’ve noticed when i put them far back they not only don’t get attacked, but don’t die as much making them a lot stronger). That and i also take the trait where they blow up on death launching everything, so a lot of players in PvP tend to stop attacking them after they get thrown on their kitten the second or third time lol.

why are turrets on such long cooldowns?

in Engineer

Posted by: Durzlla.6295

Durzlla.6295

Can you imagine if you were a whiny player of another class, you killed a turret and the engineer was able to put down another before you stomped him? The rage would be unimaginable.

Also It’s more interesting if turrets are more clutch and persistent. It’s better to have one powerful cool useful thing than a bunch of cheap junk you can dispense in rapid succession. The thing is they’re weak and pathetic which completely nullifies it.

Yeah i’m more of a fan of the whole “Turrets should be really strong, but should have a long CD and be immobile” thing myself, i personally don’t think they’re far off from the really strong point, if they scaled slightly with power and crit/crit damage as well as the condi stuff i feel like they’d be in really good shape.

PS: they’d need to watch the scaling on the power/crit/crit dmg though because that could make it really OP if it’s tuned too much.

why are turrets on such long cooldowns?

in Engineer

Posted by: Durzlla.6295

Durzlla.6295

was there ever an explanation for this? i mean with turrets being such garbage anyway why do they need 20+ second cooldowns?

i mean i know whenever i go into PVP i hear people saying “omg watch out for the engineer turrets” or if i go into a dungeon my group always says “thank god for those engineer turrets this fight would have been tough without them”

but even with that there is still no reason to have them on such long cooldowns.

Personally, i think rockets and thumpers are WAY to long of a CD, i think that 40s should be the max on all turrets…

That being said, i don’t know why so many engineers think turrets are garbage, from my experience they’re REALLY powerful, especially with trait points in them.

PS: Supply Crate + Elite Supplies = OP with a turret build, the fact i can win a 3v1 just by dropping that thing onto a point and dropping down my other turrets is kinda stupidly awesomely OPish…

Ok, so, i’m trying to come up with a condi turret build, however, i’m not sure what all i’d do for it other than taking Healing Turret, Rifle Turret, and either Rocket or Flame Turret, and then maybe the bomb kit because it has some nice conditions on it as well, and it gives me another launch.

Build wise i was thinking something alone the lines of 20/20/30/0/0 and Carrion Gear.

What in the Realm of Torment is this “the Inquest wanted to nuke Arah and at the same time Tyria in Malchor’s Leap”? I’ve never ever seen such a thing and I went through the entire area on three characters so far. Only Inquest activity I noticed was the the two or three underwater labs that mostly dealt with acquiring Zhaitan’s essence for their dragon experiments or trying to tap into the power of the golden, alchemical orb in the Pyrite Peninsula.

During one of the inquest event chains (the one for the really big lab that even has a waypoint in it) you can read some files that talks about how they want to cause an explosion in Arah that’ll be powerful enough to destroy Zhaitan, as well as a large amount of other things… and the worst case scenario was tyria is destroyed lol

By all means keep them as is, but then change signet of stone, so I don’t need to trait for it, right now having to trait for both piercing and signet of stone is removing the option of increased range.

Drop signet of stone and pick up “Protect Me!” because face it, you’re not one of the rangers who have points into their pet so the pet dying isn’t going to hurt you -that- much.

scaling of elite / healing skills

in Ranger

Posted by: Durzlla.6295

Durzlla.6295

To be perfectly honest, I’m actually far too lazy to change up my skills from Healing Spring to Troll Ungent. I tend to forget I changed them, and end up surprised when I remember I changed them in the heat of battle. I’ve gotten killed quite a few times due to that.

People usually die with Troll Ungent because they use it when they need to actually heal, you should use it before you have to actually heal. If im goin against a high dps foe i throw up troll after a couple hits.

I usually die during that switch because I’m either fighting a warrior, or I’m fighting in a zerg and just had multiple stacks of debuffs thrown on me. I immediately using the button to attempt to set down a Healing Spring to take off the debuffs, only to realize when I don’t see the field that I changed out the healing skill. I’ve actually had debuffs outdamage what Troll Ungent can heal…

Dont expect heals to heal ridiculous amounts without healing power.

Im sure you either had 25 bleed on you or kept attacking while confused to oblivion.

25 bleed, immobilized, crippled, no signet of renewal, pet dead, and flames. Also, I really have no points in Nature Magic because as a whole, if Healing Spring isn’t doing its job of getting rid of debuffs, I’m dead anyway in WvW. I may be a trap build, but I also use myself, my Healing Spring, and my traps as support for the party. And I never really run with 3 traps most of the time (unless you consider Entangle a trap) since I never know when I’ll need that Signet of the Hunt in use to make an escape. Also, not everybody can say they have a legendary to use to that effect, Casey.

My god, do you look at our trait trees or do you just use a normal 30/30/10 build or something similar? Nature Magic is vitality and boon duration, if you want healing power you wanna go with BM (you know one of the trees that buffs our damage?)… geez, some people…

PS: You need to have a Sigil of Superior Purity to CRAFT the legendary, so you’d certainly be able to have that sigil on a non legendary as well…

If it’s a thief, you’re not going to escape them, you can only outlast them or make them run. And depending the build, it’s very possible to make the thief run, as I’ve done it myself (but glass cannons I still have a hard time with due to that backstab damage). Warriors…well, when was the last time you have seen a warrior solo in WvW?

I run a trapping build and I beat thieves all the time. Only time i lose is if they use food buffs. I also see warriors soloing all the time. Trapping build requires you to move tho….if your sitting in a spring then yea the thief is going to kill you.

WvW or PvP ?

I am not a fan of traps. Number one problem is you can see them. Numerous times I have chased a trapper Ranger. As he runs he lays he traps. I see them and step around them. One time I was very motivated to kill a specific Ranger. He layed the trap and I said screw it and ran right over it. Damage is a mosquito bite.

Thiefs don’t fear traps with their stealth condition purges.

Let me guess, he used fire, spike, viper? Personally i run spike, ice, viper if i do a trap build, i use them more for the immob.snare and the healing butcher (the healing butcher is more for going toe to toe against other profs NOT thieves), pretty nice seeing as how chill + weakness + both on a thief = a very sad and miserable excuss of an opponent…

I’m not sure what the first Ranger used because I just stepped around them.

2nd Ranger I ran through fire.

I read all these tips which always makes me ask …where do you use these tactics ? 3 traps sounds great in pvp. Using all 3 slots for traps in WvW seems tough to do.

nah in WvW it’s actually easier (and perhaps better) to use multiple traps, ESPECIALLY viper and ice because of how badly they’ll kitten up people in the zerg via AoE chill and poison (seeing as how most members of a zerg are stupid they’ll blow their heal during the poison, butchering the effect, and the chill slows them down for siege/melee/other AoEs)

And the ranger that used the fire trap clearly was just some idiot with a trap(s) for a few reasons 1) if you’re running away there’s no way in hell you’d wanna throw your fire trap down, that’s not going to stop your attacker period. 2) it’s not that great of a trap to begin with, all it does is burn which we can get via several other ways, and if you’re a trapper and thus likely condi damage/duration you’ll probably be using a torch anyway completely making the fire field and fire trap pretty worthless…

yeah, and in the process if Kralk was taken out Lion’s Arch would, at the minimum, be wiped out by another tsunami, The grove may be no more, and the pact would be obliterated. 2 ED’s aren’t much of a reward for that.

Well, it’s not just 2 ED’s, it’s 2 ED’s, everything within the crystal desert, every risen that’s likely to be out there, might get Joko too seeing as how Arah would be ground Zero, it’d certainly do a number on just about everything…

Oh, it also would collapse a lot of the underground chasms, likely crushing primordius too, the karka would be fried, and yeah… just complete devastation….

BUT as i said, the inquest have good motives, they just don’t care who gets hurt in the process, and i think that’s kinda shown pretty significantly with what they planed on doing with Orr…

Have the dragons made Tyria poor?

in Lore

Posted by: Durzlla.6295

Durzlla.6295

I wrote something about this a while back and there were a few ideas that popped up as to why the economy dropped so far.

1) Lion’s Arch was the most wealthy port in Tyria, they had trade with the dwarves to bring in much income, and then the city was lost to the Tsunami. Before this the majority of the dwarves had died off, Cantha isolated itself, and Elona was under the rule of a Lich. So in one fell swoop Kryta lost any trade partners and the wealth of their capital was lost to the sea.

2) With the isolation of Cantha, it appears that Tyria also lost the use of Xunlai chests. If that is true, then a good 80-90% of the wealth of Tyrians was lost in the vault system with no chance to regain it. I’m sure many Xunlai were burned at the stake for this.

3) Lion’s Arch moved into the hands of Pirates and Zaishen, so it makes sense that these individuals would continue to use their currency. And it just so happens that the major currency used by both Pirates and Zaishen were a series of copper, silver, and gold coins. Eventually Lion’s Arch filled the void of trade within Tyria, and because of the extent of their influence many of the cultures eventually switched their currency in order to make commerce easier for everyone involved.

This is just a theory, but it seems to piece together a lot of the ideas rather well.

Well, Platinum is still used in trade (RARELY) and it’s apparent that platinum has gone up in worth significantly since GW1. I mean, the fact that Dougal was able to take a sack of Platinum and no longer have to worry about work? Yeah, in GW1 a handful of platinum wouldn’t do jack kitten for you lol, it was thrown around like change.

I have to agree, between Zhaitan flooding LA, the Xunali cutting their services away from the rest of the world, and then the fact that the other races didn’t have much money to begin with (well, except Asura, they always had a ton of money on hand, and norn just flat out didn’t care).

Part of me doesn’t believe the game could continue to be rated “T for Teen” if part of your personal story was joining the nightmare court and constantly torturing people to death, or joining the inquest and experimenting on people sometimes turning them into savage beasts or putting them through terrible deaths. I mean if you joined these organizations, that is what you would be doing. It’s a little easier with bandits/flame legion/Sons of Svanir, just kill people, that’s acceptable in games, but torture?

The inquest would be acceptable as long as you yell “FOR SCIENCE!” as you’re doing it!

@OP This isn’t the game for you if you want your personal story to be evil, the most i could say is RP that your character is on one of the other factions. I know my Asura is full fledged inquest, but then again, inquest still have REALLY good and pure motives, they just don’t care how many people they step on to achieve those goals.

EXAMPLE: In Malchors leap they were going to nuke Arah, wiping out a HUGE portion of Tyria, but by the gods Zhaitan, his Risen, and quite a few other elder dragons (well maybe just kralk as well) would be no more.

Considering the Flame legion used Kralk’s power to fuel their Searing

Where is this mentioned?

Not sure anymore, just remember some NPC discussing how the Searing crystals look awfully like the ones Kralkatorrik creates. I might be mistaken, but the fact that using any kind of magic won’t do anything against elder dragons but feed them, remains. Flame Legion has nothing to rain on Jormag. Iron Legion could. Cannonballs. Might tickle.

Really? I’d LOVE to see this. I’ve speculated on that since the Movement. But on what NPCs say, I only have seen an NPC near the Tail of the Star God POI (the giant crystal in Pockmark) say that it comes from magic predating the titans.

There was also mention in the Ecology of the Charr about how the original Cauldron of Cataclysm was made or powered by ancient, slumbering entities.

Regarding using magic against elder dragons – there’s nothing that says they can just eat it, and in fact I’m pretty sure that there was magic in the weapons used to bring down Jormag. One might compare it to a coconut – just because coconuts are edible doesn’t mean it’s easy to eat it when someone is trying to brain you with it.

We haven’t even seen Jormag yet… so isk what you’re talking about with that….

That being said, there was most certainly some magic in the shots we used to kill Zhaitan, we must’ve shredded every pixie and fairy in all of Tyria to get the ammo we were firing out of those canons…

scaling of elite / healing skills

Durzlla.6295

so, in dabbling with other classes, it seems like many other classes have the ability to trait down the recharge times of both their healing / elite skills (maybe not all, but def some).

it also seems like these skills often scale, especially with power. (ie ele greatsword or the necro form do more damage if u have more power).

just feels sort of like ranger gets boned, since we cant trait down the recharges of either our heals or our elites, nor does entangle scale with condition damage, nor does the healing spirit scale with healing power. this seem fair? balanced? like fox news?

lol what? Unfair? We have THE BEST healing power scaling heals in the game, both heal as one and healing spring are 1:1 ratio in healing power, in addition to this our heals also have a REALLY low CD for their healing power —> actual healing ratio. Not to mention Healing Spring is argued by many to be THE BEST heal in the game because no only is a 1:1 scale heal, it also grants regen and removes condis from both you and allies, AND it’s a water field.

As for our elites we can trait down the CD of Entangle, RaO becomes massively OP when you have a large amount of boon duration seeing as how any applications applied to your pet and the initial buffs gained scale off of that, and if you have concentration training all the might applied from your pet attacking (IE get put onto the ranger) has a duration increase of 50%.

And then there’s the spirit… we can double his health, effectively making him immortal unless your enemy wants to waste their burst on it or they have their entire team wailing on it, it scales with healing power (mine heals for a good 440 or so health), can be traited to GUARANTEE it’ll use its active (rezes all downed allies and purges ALL conditions from every ally in range, no not just 5 on the purge), this can give you 3 mass rezzes and condi purges.

We do not have the short end of the stick, you’re just not looking at the full picture.

Centaurs immune to Dragon Corruption?

in Lore

Posted by: Durzlla.6295

Durzlla.6295

Well for starters, there’s no Centaur in Ascalon, they all left to go over to Maguuma and Kryta where they are quite far away from all of the dragons and at war with the humans. Not to mention, Hooves may be THE WORST thing you could have if you’re in swampy or sandy terrain, you’d be heavy, and sinking in constantly, oh god they’d be little more than statues that’d wing at you if you get close.

Tengu are at war with primordius, and so far there are no signs that primordius actually corrupts any of the races to make them into his minions he just flat out forges them from molten magma and flame.

As for the Grawl, i believe there is a branded version of them, i thought i saw an event about killing a branded grawl but i’m not positive because i don’t spend much time in ascalon, and the event was just one of those that flashed up but i didn’t go to… But they’re not immune to the corruption, that’s for sure…

Jormag for sure. Flame is either the Flame Legion doing something awful, like you know, worshipping Primordus and letting loose a destroyer army, or Primordus stirs stuff up himself.

Sorry to rain on your parade, but in GW1 the Flame Legion worshipped primordius + destroyers and it resulted in the destroyers attacking them and then the whole iron, ash, and blood legions breaking away from the grasp of the flame legion, so i doubt they’re going to be worshipping them again anytime soon…

However, i would’t be surprised if they found some sort of “deity” to worship… i’m kinda hoping Baelfire will be back (or something of that sort, very powerful charr magi) and raining down hell on jormag…

Needless to say, i’m excited!

Why arrows should not pierce by default

in Ranger

Posted by: Durzlla.6295

Durzlla.6295

I definitely think piercing by default is a bad idea.

What I DO think should happen, is give the bows the ability to shoot over people.
Idk about the SB, but the LB definitely.

This would make it so we could always just shoot the person farthest away so we could actually utilize that damage, and we wouldn’t have to worry about line of sight.

you can though, if you have auto attack and auto targeting on not so much, if you turn those off you can arc them over a little bit, with auto attack and target it will -try- to do it in certain scenarios.

Why arrows should not pierce by default

tldr

They don’t pierce on default.

But there was a suggestion on a thread wanting this, and it was quite popular.

I second the OP on this though.

But if you keep reading that same post, there is an added suggestion concerning arrowheads… ones to pierce, others to burn, bleed, etc… giving the ranger the option to pierce or not.

Why they removed preparations to begin with is beyond me…

Upgrades to off hand axe

Don’t touch my WD, it’s a DEFENSIVE skill not offensive… And nothing makes me smile more than using it at the “point of no return” on a warrior kill shot… (By that I mean right before/after it fires)

Path of scars on the other hand…. For the love of god make it a daze, or a pull, or a stun, or another chill, something!! Make it do SOMETHING useful!! I think it should be an interrupt of some sort, that way our 1h weapons can utilize Moment of Clarity…

@Fjandi, actually, I find that WD is better against people who -do- know how the skill works because then it acts as an immunity, making you just sit there unhindered by them, in a combo field (preferably) raining hell down from afar while they wait on their weapon swap CD…

My thoughts on Ranger Trait Problems

@Taym, well the whole point of usin warhorn for bleed is kinda BURST codi dmg…. And when compared to crippling talon it’s clearly superior in that regard…

@xev, I prefer not to waste my dodges on things they aren’t needed for…. I’m not saying don’t make it stronger (I think prot and/or vigor in addition on a successful revive would be awesome) I’m saying don’t give us fury and might and all that because its not as useful for the point of the trait.

Hornet Sting causes culling? Or was it hack?

in Ranger

Posted by: Durzlla.6295

Durzlla.6295

Rangers have tons of combo finishers, stealth on knockdown, stealth on percent life damage, stealth from Juvenile Siamoth, as well as plenty of BLINDS and evades.

You lost legitimately to a good ranger BUT IT MUST BE CULLING! Lol, sorry, but you lost plain and simple

No. Sorry. All rangers have that can stealth are:

“Hide in Plain Sight”, which is on a 30-second CD.
Jaguar Pet’s special skill, which is also on a 30-second CD.

This guy was disappearing every 5-6 seconds, often for as long as 5 seconds at a time.

You forget: I play a L80 ranger.

Omg you clearly aren’t a good one then…

Siamoth, —→ forage —> feathers/tuft --→ stealth

Infiltrators runes (which are currently bugged to be CDless in PvE/dubs my ele friend stealthed at low health 6 times in the same fractal boss fight, which doesn’t take NEARLY as long as the CD would make it) —-→ low health——> stealth

And as for his regen, that’s legit, I have a ranger build where I regen 1k health per second, it’s pretty fun to say the least….

And this entire post you have, sounds like BS, if you’re a lv 80 ranger main HOW THE kitten did you not notice what the guys pet was? You supposedly fought him for a long period of time and then -watch- him fight others for a long period of time yet don’t know what his pets are?

PS: d/d eles tend to call “hax” if anyone eats them because a lot of them seem to think d/d ele isn’t supposed to lose… Or at least that’s what I’ve discovered from sPvP

Did you enjoy finishing your personal story?

in Lore

Posted by: Durzlla.6295

Durzlla.6295

I personally enjoyed the Personal Story. I do agree that it gets kinda disjointed at parts, there are some poor transitions between stories. That being said though, it is confusing being called a “Personal Story” when by the end the story isn’t about you anymore, it’s about Trahearn. Now I actually like this. In my mind, it shouldn’t be up to one person to do everything, and on top of that you actually get to help someone fulfill their purpose in life, which is a great thing. I just wish that they had done a better job of developing Trahearn through the process of the story, it would have made the ending of the story just that much more amazing. I hope in the expansions he becomes a lot more confident in his actions.

Actually, the problem is the other races (non sylvari) don’t see Trahearn at all, period until the pact where as sylvari work along side starting at lv 10, which is HUGE. I see all these people complaining about Trahearn and how he had no development etc, yet i saw TONS of development in him due to being a sylvari and working along him since the beginning (which was mostly him being super scholarly and passive).

That being said, i actually like how at the end everyone comes together and you have to accomplish the same relative goal (IE starving the mouth, cutting off reinforcements, and then there’s another 3 way split before cleansing orr) the reason i love this so much is simple, it leaves NO question on what happened in key parts of the story. We all know how Zhaitan died, we all know how Orr was cleansed, we all know how the Mouth(s) were starved etc, etc etc.

Another major thing a lot of people look over is the fact that in the story regardless of what option YOU choose, the other option is still followed through, IE when i went into the heart of Lyssa’s temple to cut off the reinforcements they also commented about how the “other pact members” destruction of the ship helped to ensure that Zhaitan will not get any reinforcements and etc.

Idk why so many people seem to think a personal story in an MMO (where your character clearly can’t be the sole reason everything worked out, because there are millions of people who are doing the same stuff) should be TOTALLY your character and there shouldn’t even be another NPC out there to “steal their thunder”.

Why can't Humans help the grawl?

in Lore

Durzlla.6295

So you are saying they would be super intelligent if a bunch of skritt with no vocal chords came together in an area. They have no way to communicate, but they become super smart just by standing side by side? That makes no sense. I’m not saying that their communication is the only factor, but I am saying that it is a strong factor in their increased intelligence.

They are a hive mind race…. they grow in intelligence the more of them are nearby, even read the story about the skritt and the Kodan, he understood their philosophies fully with his friends around and as such wanted to stay near them because he thought it was REALLY interesting, his friends however, could care less about the Kodan and left. As soon as his friends were out of a certain range he couldn’t understand a single thing that those kodan were saying or doing.

They are not normal rat people, they are a hive mind, anet has flat out said in their blog post “No one really knows how the skritt hive-like intelligence works. The most likely theory is that the skritt simply communicate so rapidly that, when together.”

Cultural Town Clothes

Posted by: Durzlla.6295

Durzlla.6295

I don’t have it myself, but if it’s anything like Pirate’s costume then the 5 skills are tied to the toy (frying pan). 3-4 of them should be brawling skills.

I know both the Witches Outfit and the Wintersday Clothes have a 5th skill that is useable for show (no effect -in- costume brawl but for some reason still put you into “combat”) I’d imagine the cooks would be the same.

EDIT: Whelp they are on the wiki!! So it appears i don’t need you to answer them =D thanks anyways though!

Cultural Town Clothes

in Sylvari

Posted by: Durzlla.6295

Durzlla.6295

I haven’t really done it, but I put 2 town clothes in a transmutation stone and I could’ve clicked the button (I didn’t though), so you could always try “hax” transmuting with any CS town clothes (some town clothes have only chest piece that cover the legs as well, so take care). Then it shouldn’t have to matter which race you do it with, since all town clothes are the same (they just look different depending on your race, like the CS chefs costume). Or you could just use the chefs costume since that will look planty on sylvari.

PS. You could also try to write a ticket. But since this wasn’t caused by any bug it’s not something to count on. Any mod would give the same advice…

Wait the Chefs costume changes per character using it? I may just do that then… i was just looking for a planty costume instead of my current wintersday one…

EDIT: ok I checked it out, they look amazing… Now are the 5 “out of combat skills” costume brawl skills? If so I must have them!

Would Thieves be candidates for portals?

in Thief

Posted by: Durzlla.6295

Durzlla.6295

I -really- don’t want anyone to get portal (because the skill is stupid and further forcing people to bring that skill is dumb imo), but i do think if anyone were to get it it’d be thieves and/or necroes because they already have something similar.

Thieves portal would just be tied into Shadow trap (or w/e one allows you to port back in stealth when triggered) and necros would use flesh wurm.

all thief guild?

Durzlla.6295

It sounds very roleplaying and i could see some very PvP oriented players could imagine themselves as a Deadly Assassinations Squad.Sadly in TPvP would fail so hard, since they will not be able to hold points.

Actually, they’d just have to be able to take the points and be able to have more points at a time than the other team, it’s totally possible to be done, it’d just be A LOT different from the current meta… If they’re capable of bunker busting though they’d be in great shape.

OT: As said above, Veil is an all Thief guild, i’ve run across a herd of them a few times in WvW while i was still on Sanctum of Ral, they were organized as hell and all burst down single people at a time, completely destroyed a few zeros because of it.

Grouping with friends

Well me and my friends almost always start together in sPvP (we -normally- will just do tPvP if we have 4-5 of us PvPing), but after about match 4 of us all being on the same team dominating it splits us up, but we normally have chances to swap over to a different team and group up again (normally don’t though because we just pvp together for the fun of it and it’s always fun hunting each other down xD).

Why can't Humans help the grawl?

in Lore

Posted by: Durzlla.6295

Durzlla.6295

Yeah, I am pretty sure I have seen in dialogue many times that the increased intelligence of groups of skritt comes from their ability to communicate at rapid speeds. This allows their minds to somewhat network increasing their intelligence. Like, for example, if you video taped a bunch of game designers brainstorming a game, and then watched it in fast forward.

http://www.arena.net/blog/those-sneaky-sneaky-skritt
“Skritt are small, rat-like creatures in Guild Wars 2 who come from deep beneath the surface of Tyria. At first glance, these skittering fur balls may seem barely capable of rational speech, but they wield weapons and wear clothing and armor like more advanced races. Also, as the asura will tell you (or as any careful observer might note), the skritt actually gain intelligence when many of them congregate. Speaking in chirps and squeaks so fast that it sounds like buzzing to human ears, they share information, parse knowledge, and determine actions between themselves.”

they aren’t -intelligent- because of the chirps, the chirps just make it so they can plan and advance so much faster than the other races, they actually gain intelligence just from being near each other, the chirps just greater increase it.

It’d be like if the smartest people in the world could communicate their ideas in seconds, they don’t actually become smarter by it, but they can share their ideas and advance faster due to it.

The diversity of the human npcs in their respective districts

in Lore

Durzlla.6295

I’m gonna have to agree, I was deeply upset by how many pastey white humans roamed that city, ESPECIALLY in the canthan and elonian districts…

Elona was BY FAR my favorite content both cultural and apperance wise and I was upset there wasn’t more of both in DR =(.

I’m a bio major (getting close to graduation) and I can say if there’s anything I’ve learned is that the white skin color is dominate over the darker skin color (which is a kitten shame if you ask me) so it makes sense that in 250 years A LOT of the darker skin tones would be lost due to the sudden explosion in ascolonian population from GW1. However if what you said was true about a huge number of Elonians migrating recently, there should -still- be a large amount of Elonians running around…

PS: Whoever runs that tavern can you shoot me a PM when it’s “open”? Because I’d love to go there at least once seeing as how my Human is a fairly large part elonian (mixed with ascalonian so he’s mostly Krytan in apperance.)

I’d agree completely with that, Rat. I would have loved for the home instance to be populated with trophies, mementos, things you obtain throughout your character’s life. Not just from the personal story, but something from each dungeon, something from each zone you 100%, things like that.

So that it would look visibly and immediately different between that of a level 80 character who has completed their story, done every dungeon, and 100% the world and a newbie lvl 1 who hasn’t done anything.

Mmm. To the suggestion forum!

Omg yes! And I will say there’s a few HUGE changes that I really do like with my gone instance.

1) half of its population died because I chose to save a friend over the people and those that are remaining, a lot don’t look to hot.

2) I have a freaking army of Hylek standing in the middle of my instance and a few that patrol instead of guards.

If only the other changes were bigger…

PS: I’ve noticed the sylvari and charr instance BARELY change and it has upset me greatly =(

Lack of centaurs at Brisban Wildlands

in Lore

Posted by: Durzlla.6295

Durzlla.6295

If this is so, I could see this having ramifications with the Kryta-LA relations – I could see the Krytan government feeling that they didn’t have to guard an approach the Lionguard was already guarding, and the demonstrated falsity of that assumption has cost a lot of Krytan lives.

If I’m remembering correctly, there’s already a bit of that – in Kessex, I believe, one of the Lionguard complain about how they’re just letting the centaur do as they like, and there’s also some Seraph who similarly complain about how the Lionguard aren’t doing anything.

This is true, it’s all because of the stupid peace treaty the centaurs made with the lion Guard so that there’d be no harming of any lions arch citizens (which has kept MANY citizens safe) or Lion Guard. You can overhear a conversation with some centaur and lion guard diplomats and when the lion guard talks about X number of civilian deaths the centaur quickly becomes fearful the treaty will break and assures them it was the bandits or risen.

how to kill stealth thiefs?

in Ranger

Posted by: Durzlla.6295

Durzlla.6295

You’re one of -those- thieves… I see how it is…

I’m also a Ranger Main, but usually opt out of WvWing on my Ranger due to my inability to disengage from a large-scale conflict. She’s strong, but a fair bit unconventional as far as Rangers go. Most Rangers usually opt for either a glass-cannony approach, or a Healing Beast Master build.

-My Ranger has 22k Health, 3k Attack, and 3.2k Armor.
-My Pet would win a 1v1 against most Thieves.
-I use Troll Unguent rather than Healing Spring.

I deal with Thieves quite simply: I auto attack them a few times, let my pet knock them down, at which point I pop Greatsword #5 and swap Pets for Quickness (pet swap before the skill lands so that the new pet with quickness has the 50% attack buff). After eating the quickness burst, they usually get knocked down again by the fresh canine, panic, stun-break, and run away. If they don’t stun-break, I use Quickening Zepher and they die.

Smart Thieves only fight targets they think they can defeat, which leaves you the option of either opening with tons of burst so they run, or auto-attacking until they think they have an edge, then go in for the kill.

I like it! That’s what i do with my sPvP build (not exactly, but close), i use a shortsword + warhorn though, it’s really fun watching them squirm as they try to escape.

Because its the same kitten in other games with raiding – you play the game through and at the very end the Devs just can’t figure out how to finish up with the same group size as they started.

And as others have meantioned, the elder dragon CAN be solo’d once you reach that point in the dungeon. The gating is nonsensical.

Um…. well, at lv 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 75, 78, and 80 you get a mail (maybe not at 80, but trahern flat out says it there) telling you to go to a FIVE man instance to go help destinies edge, you ignoring those up until 80 and then complaining that you have to group up is pretty absurd.

And btw, this isn’t like raiding, this is a kittening 5 man, you don’t need freaking +10 people needed, just 5, and from the sounds of it you have multiple friends playing the game so the whole getting of 3 people and doing the instance isn’t that hard, i know that’s what i did with all the story mode instances.
