ok well what about hard of hearing players that wont be able hear that or if there is a chaotic fight going on then hearing is not always the best way
or you have your sound down
i am aware of all the points made so far this was just an improvement idea that would be really simple but effective
Then there’s still the GREYED OUT F2 SKILL, the limping pet (which will be coming towards you and limping at your side), and the lack of any of the bright red health bar being in the pets health bar. Idk how you are having trouble knowing your pet is dead, no one else seems to be.

You don’t have to look at anything. Don’t you hear your character yell “MY PET’S DOWN!!” or whatever your race says? Then you don’t have to even glance at the pet bar to know its toast.
“No! Come back! I’ll heal you!”
“No, don’t die yet!”
“Not my pet!”
“I’ll Protect you! come to me!”
Are all things my ranger has said (or very close to that) when my pet gets downed, so, yeah… you totally don’t even need to look at your pets bar to know when your pet goes down, because i can 100% guarantee that everytime my pet has gone down he’s said one of these.

I rather have them make us rangers some neat 1-hand and 2-hand crossbows. They could act more like our shotguns and pistols.
But i think the type of shaman/Druid/Beastmaster you look for would be cool as new proffesion.. Could possibly have more pets, like 3-5 of them were one is elite. And summon whirlwinds and such. Hmm..
Well i’m expecting Crossbow to show up during some expansion (maybe cantha?) because face it, quite a few profs would likely use crossbow, ranger, warrior, thief (if there’s 1 handed ones, -maybe- 2 handed, but those seem as if it’d be to clunky), engineer, maybe even ele.
However for staff and scepter i’d imagine they could implement that (as well as other weapons that are already in existence for other profs, maybe main hand pistol for mes, don’t know what else for the other profs, don’t really play them) in a patch of some sort instead of holding off for an expansion or something.
@Hammer being to bulky, well even Nente (ranger boss in AC storymode) uses a hammer as a throw back to the “Bunny Thumper” build that rangers had. The point of the build was to use rangers agility to quickly close the gap on an enemy with their pet, smack them to the floor, and then pump out a lot of burst on them while they’re KD, ending them shortly after they get back up (IF they get back up).

Currently I’m stuck between Rune of the Ranger and Rune of the Pack for my ranger’s armor. Does anyone know if the #6 bonus for the companion works even if your pet is dead? Or does you pet need to be alive in order to maintain the 5% damage bonus?
Thanks~
Well, your pet doesn’t -need- to be alive, because by “pet” it means “summon” so if you have your pet, a spirit, a flesh reaver (from the sigil), or a Hyena Ally (from Hyena pet) still alive and in good condition, and not out of range (idk what the range is, but i know when i got out of range of my spirits in a fight while my pet was dead i lost the 5% boost, the spirits WERE alive though, so it had to be from range).
So if you’re a spirit ranger, or a BM ranger then you’re going to have a really easy time of keeping that 5% active, if you struggle keeping your pet alive for what ever reason, and you don’t use spirits i’d go for the Rune of the Pack instead.
Rune of the Pack is a VERY powerful rune, especially with the 4pt bonus where you essentially cast Call of the Wild when you attack people.

Staff would be awesome. Or scepter. Scepter would be cool, because then we could use it with our warhorn and it’s buff.
I think it would make a LOT of sense for us to get a staff or a scepter, because without one “nature magic” seems like a stupid and pointless name for a tree. Spirits alone don’t suffice for an entire talent tree.
But, if we can’t get staves and scepters, I do think they should put some kind of a nature druid/shaman type character into the game.
Though my understanding is that the ranger is supposed to be said kind of class, so I don’t fully understand why we can’t get staves and/or scepters…
I agree with this, i personally think Staff would fit better with ranger though because it still allows for the whole “Martial” aspect (IE we could still bash people with our staff where a scepter, not so much…) not to mention that in GW1 quite a few rangers used staffs, where no rangers (that i know of) used scepters.
Staffs were used for Heavy Spirit, Traps, and Beast Mastery builds in GW1 (IE a majority of your skills were for one of those 3 skills, EASILY 5 – 8 of your skills, out of 8, were those), so they have that whole lore aspect behind why staff would be used over scepter.
That being said i would love to have another ranged 1 hander… so if we could get both i’d be a VERY VERY VERY happy ranger, the fact we got neither staff nor Hammer (2 very common GW1 weapons for ranger) is upsetting…

So rangers, i have discovered yet another hidden feature behind our prof (because our tool tips are soooooooooooooo accurate xD).
It turns out that not only does Evasive Purity remove Poison, and Blind, but ALSO removes chilled, i’ll have to check out if it removes any more conditions than the tooltip says and let you guys know!!
Just thought i’d inform you guys of this because i’m probably the ONLY person who plays a NM ranger xD

How about instead of removing what we have atm, and putting in something completely new, they change it into a similar swap-system as elementalists have?
That way the people that like to have a tanking pet as it is atm (although tweaking is needed, no secret there), can keep doing that.
However pressing lets say… F5 switches into a new subset of spirit/similar (lots of good ideas in thread).
Could even add more than one subset, like…
F5: Animal spirits adding strong permanent buff + special combat move.
F6: Petsystem similar to what we have atm, with a physical pet thats melee or ranged
F7: Physical pets that can have their own specific signets for several (small?) bonuses decided by the player.
F8: New set of orders for pets: Pull and lure mobs to specific location, plant bombs…
None of the above thought through at all, some blazenly stolen from earlier in thread, and yes (especially on the F8 one) i kinda ran out of ideas, so use it for examples only please :pWould add a whole new dimension to it with alot of added variety/builds.
Wouldnt mind seeing something similar on all classes tbh, variety is always nice.
Lets try to keep the F skills on 1-4 like every other prof, other wise it becomes waaaaaaay to complicated, which is something Anet is trying to avoid (ease of access to be decent at the prof, a lot more skill to be really good). I think a better option would be the Signet idea someone said a little ways up.

Thieves don’t like being controlled, even the good ones which there are very few, my thief main sure doesn’t. Keep them controlled while your pet has lunch and sit on Q zephyr or another burst for last hit before they can reset the fight then swap pet if you have 5 bm and stomp. Go for that quickness stomp if you can, even if they don’t trait for downed damage, that knife throw can turn any low health into a revive.
If the thief keeps hitting and running off for a reset, let them go rest up while you rest up, they want you to slowly kill yourself on them while they go in and out of stealth chasing them like any good zergling should do. I guarantee they’re going to rage on the inside if they come back at you and you’re rested and ready to roll with a smile with fully refreshed cool downs. They want to lure you, so deny them that and just go about your business while they slowly, or quickly, kill themselves on you.
This is SO true. Knowing when and when not to chase an enemy is a huge part of surviving in WvW. When they come back after a difficult fight to see you just standing there not backing away, many thieves (other professions included) change their mind about continuing to fight you and will start targeting other players instead if any are nearby.
I’d say this is true for most every other class except rangers. Maybe also engineers and necros but the standing firm might make them think “what’s this guy got up his sleeve?” Most people know the average wvw ranger is just going to try to axe #1 you to death and will go right for you.
I can’t even count how many times a thief has circumvented our zerg to go right for me thinking I’m an easy badge. Rangers aren’t really high on anyone’s “Oh kitten, better not try to 1v1 this guy” list.
Until they pour their burst into you only to find you still sitting pretty at +75% health, and they’re poisoned, cripples, and immobed and your 1h blades warrior friend is in the process of bulls rushing the poor thief who though you were some easy kill xD.
It never gets old watching a thief go for me thinking “Oh i’ll just burst him and leave” only to find himself unable to escape from one (or more) of my glass cannon friends i PvP with (i play as support, me doing no damage is due to how i built, not due to ranger as a prof).

I’m gonna call BS, the only reason this would occur is if conditions no longer stack, which is false, they still do stack. That being said i was just in WvW and running with a trapper ranger and his fire trap was stacking with no issues, the only trap he used that -didn’t- stack condis was spike trap, but that’s because spike trap only hits once.

I can confirm that the 5% goes away while your pet is dead, however if you have a flesh reaver summoned (Sigil of demon summoning) or spirits out the 5% stays active until you have no summons or living pet.
Edit: if you are using a hyena and your hyena pet dies but the summoned hyena is still present the 5% buff will stay with you until the Hyena Ally is killed or despawns.

…. really annoying fight this thiefs… they just keep invisible all the time… how you guys kill them?
In WvW? You usually don’t which is BS, if a thief decides the fights over they’re gone, nothing you can do about it.
As for killing either a very determined stealth thief, or a stealth thief in sPvP, it’s simple, you make it hard as balls for them to hit you with their stealth opener, and you keep shooting/slashing them when they go invis. Unlike other MMOs you can kill the thief while they’re running around invis, and my god is that great!!
PS: in WvW you can track a thief while they’re stealthed, they move grass and that aside when they move and leave footprints/leave ripples in water as they move, learn to look for this.

I’m running a 0/10/15/15/30 build and i want to get exotic armor and accessories. I mainly focus on WvW but i also want my gear to be viable in dungeons. Any help would be appreciated.
I would recommend either Soldiers, Clerics, or Apothecary, I suggest this because as a BM you yourself don’t need to deal the damage, your pet has that covered, in addition if you use clerics or apothecaries you’re not only benefiting from your 25pt trait, but also keeping your pets up better due to all the added healing.
I also suggest soldiers in the scenario you want to deal a bit if damage yourself AND you aren’t going to be running a cat/bird, without a cat/bird you can give up the healing power (-I- wouldn’t, but you certainly can) an your pet will still be really survivable.
If you plan on doing a ton of WvW you can get soldiers gear via badges, apothecary and clerics are both craftable, and as such are easy to get.

To flat out answer your question, no. You need to pay attention to your pets in dungeons and actively know when to let them attack and when to call them back/swap.
to flat out clarify your confusion, youre wrong. higher level dungeons have zero room for non-utility pets. it’s sad really. thanks for the bump.
Tell that to my fern hound, he’s been in every scenario I’ve dealt with since character creation with either a hyena, devourer, Moa, raven, or drake as the secondary pet (drake was present at least 75% of the time in PVE and WvW) and I’ve had no issues, maybe you should control your pet better?

Really? I never noticed, figured it was a bug. I’ll look more closely!
It’s fairly slight, when you look at them while they’re sitting (or flying) you can notice it, but if you’re just watching it maul something it’s hard to notice since they’re both a brown bird.

To flat out answer your question, no. You need to pay attention to your pets in dungeons and actively know when to let them attack and when to call them back/swap. Even then, some bosses just don’t work, like the Jade Maw or high level fractal bosses with agony. But I wouldn’t despair nerva, since the incoming months suggest patches that will equate to an expansion – so I’m sure that there will be quality of life changes for the ranger and pet.
This, if we don’t get any agony resist (maybe based off of the players agony resist? Or lv of fractals?) or pet AoE damage taken reduction I’m gonna be fairly kitten #8230;

I still wanna see spirits like they were in GW1, very large effect that give a passive effect (a boon or condi in GW2) to either allies/enemies in the area, then make their passive a large aoe effect for allies/enemies in the area.
Aka just make them more like the elite (although not as durable) and up their radius to be the distance mes can tell via portal.

Well that could be used as crude way to tell for now thx..
but I think this lil suggestion of changing the colour of the health bar when dead is a far more polished and would be miles better, than the way it is now.
can be misleading at the moment
Seriously? Your pet limps around and makes pathetic whining noises when it’s downed, how can you NOT know when he’s downed by just looking at it?
Chaos of the battlefield. My pet will die without me even noticing because I’m too busy trying to stay alive or to keep person X from using skill Y.
couldn’t of said it better..
All Im trying to address is the fact the UI for the pet could be made immensely better by just having a diff colour for the downed pet..
it’s simple to implement, and as i stated before
if my pet has x amount of my damage tied to him i want to easily see when he’s dead
Well the health bar is grey and the F2 skill is blacked out, do you want it to be flashing red with a little asura dancing on it holding a sign that says “Your pet is dead!!” ? i mean, how much more do you want?
health bar is not grey.. thats was my whole point.. its just a slight shade of darker red
all I asked was could they make it grey for clarity..

so the game is out quite a while now , people have gotten used to combo fields/finishers, how about adding some new finishers? maybe class unique combo fields/finishers.
for ex. if elementalist lays a fire combo field he can either change the blast to ‘give area might’ or ‘burn everyone for 2 ticks’ or just ‘plain more damage’ from the actual blast. its either one of those,. not all. this adds more variation to fields/finisherrs
would like to know some ideas on other classes havent given it as much tought but i think its good.
my 2 cents.
Great idea. I support this fully, with one small adjustment. Seeing as Ele already has a class unique combo field “lightning” how about giving a unique one to everybody else now.
I think it’d be better to just spread Air around to more profs, not make more combo fields unique to others.
That being said, if this were to happen i’d say it needs to be on the player using the FINISHER -not- the person using the field.
IE, i can set my fire projectile finisher to cause a small explosion on contact with someone, where my thief friend standing right next to me can set their fire projectile finisher to burn people who get hit by the arrow.

You’re forgetting something. The ranger can only go into a downed state 3 times before he’s out of commission completely. I agree the glitch is wonky (I’ve had it happen to me), but you can still take him out by making him waste all his ‘downed’ time. Plus well, it takes 8 seconds for a downed ranger to use Lick Wounds. Within those 8 seconds the first time, you may get him close to death. The 2nd downed, you’ll probably kill him because he can’t get his pet to heal him in time.
I think you’re looking for the WvW forum. In spvp there is no decreased health on repeated downs.
Um, yes there is lol, and btw you need to INTERRUPT the pet, daze, or stun it and the boom, pet just sits there going “Now what do i do? Watch you die?! SOUNDS GOOD TO ME!!”

Have you seen Hunger Games?
The first poor guy who died was the Ranger.
Are you forgetting the main character?
Main character was most definately a longbow warrior.
Or a shortbow thief.
Meh, she was too stupid to be a thief. Definately a warrior.
Pffft, not enough fire or explosives to be a warrior, she was clearly a ranger.
PS: She also used wildlife to her advantage, a thief and warrior are too stupid to do that.

Why use birds?Cat’s are the the best DPS pets.
Cats are best sustain, birds can provide support and burst, for his build he relies on bursting some poor kitten down not cutting it apart over a larger period of time.

Obviously this isn’t thought to be very balanced. With attack of opportunity and opening strike I can already hit 5k on squishy 80’s, 3k on bunkers, #2 would do at least 10k-6k which is kitten insane especially since you have 2 kill shots in 1 weapon. However, it appears this bow would be downright atrocious at close range against opponents with interrupts/stuns/dazes.
I’m thinking that’s the point, you use your pet to keep them at bay as you pew pew, but once that gap gets closed you’re at a significant disadvantage (unlike longbow which can still hold its own.)
As their mother, I have to grant them their wish. – Forever Fyonna
Odd, last time I quit bow builds were all the rage in pve, barrage + splinter wep kitten
If you liked using Barrage Splinter yes. I was never a fan of it and I played with heroes so mobbing up didn’t quite work the way it was supposed to. I did use this hilarious Incendiary Arrows build for vanquishing also. However, for more brainless and relaxed AoE spam, Dagger spam worked better majority of the time and with very fast attack speed to boot. It wasn’t quite the real ranger though.
Apples and oranges I guess. Besides, Barrage was hardly a meta after all the effing Spirit Spam rits, Sin tanks and the new and improved Mesmer.
Wasnt aware pve had a meta.
When I started getting into hard mode and that it most certainly did (which is stupid because it didn’t even -need- one), however if you ran with heroes you could do as you please!!
I played some GW1 yesterday and am now depressed with the difference of spirits, in Gw1 they’re so powerful and awesome and in GW2 they’re so… Not…
As their mother, I have to grant them their wish. – Forever Fyonna
Ranger were desiderd in PvP for their ability to multitask with a single build. While playing with the team you had to focus on interrupting critical spells, spreading conditions to apply pressure before the spike and crippling enemy melees. With the same build you could split and attack the enemy base alone thanks to yur speed, condition and survivability to force the enemy to backup and defend. In PvE the most poular farming builds required you to have a particular secondary profession like /Rt for DOA or kitten for uswc wich was not a big deal. Urgoz and Kanaxai farming builds used to have 3/4 splinter ranger in the beginning, this changed after but a ranger was still required for his traps, then there was the ursan setup and you could do that just as good as any other profession. The old setup was still viable.
In general PvE and vanquish you could still hold your own and with my build I could pump even more aoe damage than the splinter barrage.Yes, rangers were better in gw1 in both pve and pvp, cant think of a logical argument as to why people think gw2 rangers are better but to each their own. I agree anet should go back to their roots a bit.
Only complaint about GW1 ranger was pet AI, if they did GW1 ranger w/ GW2 pet AI I’d be in heaven.
Idk about that, I had 2 rangers, 1 BM and 1 archer, with my BM I used a staff and went balls out BM, pet melted people hard and he attacked who I asked, AND people couldnt outrun him at normal pace, and he hit moving targets, so I liked the AI in that more. To each their own, but I much prefered gw1 pets to gw2. Also with my archer, I had 4 different types of bows for several occasions, flatbow for sniping, longbow because I liked the skin, hornbow for heavy armored targets, and recurve for all around pvp and semi sniping-midranged combat. IT was amazing feeling that I had multiple bows for several purposes. I want that here.
Actually, in GW1 if they moved around (except while crippled which is why i ran with a bow and took crip shot) your pet was 100% unable to attack, however the second they stopped, THAT was a different story.
I personally had 4 bows myself, i had a shortbow for rapid fire melee range, i had a longbow (my bread and butter bow) i had a recurve (for when i needed to be on rupt duty), and then my personal favorite, the flat bow, MY GOD did that thing obliterate anyone who was snared or standing still! So much range, so much attack speed, so much carnage! (not to mention it was a zealous bow so if i was using barrage i had limitless energy).
PS: With a staff BM build your pet was a god, it could outrun ANYONE, took nearly nothing damage wise, attacked through blocks, hit like a truck shivers it was horrifying!! ESPECIALLY if you threw GDW onto it.
GDW was a pve only weapon so I never used it, however I did use a staff BM and my pet was godly, as you say, hard to kill, hard hitting, hits through blocks, bled and poisoned, could interupted if needed, healed him and I each hit with predatory bond. I had many people try to kill my pet and me by cripple kiting him with 1 degen and attacking me, I just LoSed and let him keep crippling pet, eventually I won because I never ran out of resources. Also, my pet moved faster than normal run speed for some reason, even without run as one or any run skills, I tested this many times over my 7 year time there, not much faster but faster still, couldnt out run him without the use of a sprint. My pvp build consisted of 16 MM 12-13 expertise and 4-6 protection in monk. I ran burning arrow, hunters shot, needling shot, disrupting shot for interupt + burst ( was bugged also, worked on spells as well ) experts focus for super spamable near never ending energy + 9 more damage, lightning reflexes, mending and in FA I used spirit of favorable winds for team ranged buff and sniping turtles and making arrows almost undodgeable. Although Id use distracting shot in gvg and arena and I definitely felt like a archery pro with him as opposed to how my gw2 ranger feels.
I used a BM build of somsort (not always with a staff, most of the time was with a bow and arrow) I would normally run a build with Scavenger Strike (my god that thing opens so many doors!) and a few heavy offensive abilities via my pet and then provide supporting fire with my bow, crippling the enemy, degening them, rupts, that sorta thing.
PS: In GW1 pets have a base run speed that is 25% faster than player characters, which was AWESOME!! than if you used another movement buff skill there was no way they could escape.
As their mother, I have to grant them their wish. – Forever Fyonna
right now it impossible to fight a thief with 60% cloak uptime. the pet is useless and you can barely hit them. Even if you get a good burst going, you will never kill them. Best it will end is a draw if you are full speced into healing and tank and condition removal. Its just stupid.
They can be hit while they’re in stealth… the sooner you realize this the easier thieves become to take down.
I do pathetic damage to a thief compared to my pet if Im spec to actually survive an encounter. Please do tell how Im going to kill them in stealth when my gs swings does 800 damage per cut while they can be anywhere. Also do tell of how a thief is going to be standing still getting smacked by a tooth pick until he dies?
Every 3rd attack you evade, as long as you hit a target your #1 skill moves over to the next skill, smash the #1 skill until they come out a lot of thieves will either hold back trying to wait for your evade to end, or they’ll try to jump in and back stab you ASAP so they don’t miss their window. Both of these options hinder them because it gives you the chance to evade their backstab or to hold back for to long and miss their stealth all together.
and 800 damage per hit is a lot to a thief, they have the LOWEST health in the game, if they’re a glass cannon there’s going to be no way they’re going to even want to deal with an auto attack especially after they waste their heal to get into stealth.
It’s very easy to find a thieves general location with a great sword, just swing your sword around like an idiot and keep moving around in circles as long as your auto attack keeps moving forward.
EDIT: Just throwing this in there, projectiles (when they don’t pierce) will stick into mid air when you collide with the target.
Easier said then done. I do 800. They do 3k. They have 15k health, I have 20k. What does that mean? I die before they do.
Thiefs can evade with their attacks too when they aren’t cloaked and since they do more damage, they will win. I don’t get to time my attacks either since they can blind me whenever.
and there is noway to consistently hit with projectiles when you are fighting someone who keeps cloaking.
How much armor do you have that causes you to get hit for 3k? on anything OTHER than their backstab? they don’t hit -that- hard, and a thief can only evade with their #3 if they’re a d/d. And when they aren’t cloaked -you- should deal more damage, because you have both you and your pet mauling them.
PS: It’s not that hard to his a thief with a projectile while they’re stealthed, you just hurl your projectiles in the general direction they stealthed in, if they change direction you’ll know because the projectiles are traveling further.
I have 2.5k armor, which is decent but not full tank. Each heartseaker can do 2k damage and BS can do 8-9k on a decently glassy thief. The numbers are a bit exagerated but they do more dps than me.
Anyways d/d thiefs aren’t problems which this thread was made for. 99% of them are horribad and can’t kill me because they like to smack into my counter attack and let me burst them afterward.
The problem is a thief with condition and evade and cloak. The pet is useless and your damage alone is just pathetic. The only decent weapon is the sword and I really do not like the style of it. And even if you use the sword you won’t win since they do more dps.
If by projectiles you mean targeted AOE, then its 50/50, if you mean by auto attack on a bow, I don’t know how thats even going to go remotely in the right direction.
actually was talking about auto attack on a bow, it works best with a short bow because of how much faster it shoots, just spray and pray as you keyboard turn (well at that speed) if the arrows vanish before they go really far in the distance, he’s right there, if they are flying really far out he’s going the other direction, if you’re fighting on a point in sPvP make sure you get your back on a wall so he can’t hit you for 2x damage.
As for the condi thieves, THOSE are what the good thieves tend to use, which is what makes them harder to deal with for many reasons, 1) they can dot you up and bail, 2) they evade a lot while you -can- see them, which is really annoying. -My- build can take them fairly easily because i’m built to outlast and thus can slowly whittle them away and remove my conditions fairly easily (mostly because they only stack bleeding). However, the major flaw with the condi thieves (at least so i’ve noticed) is that they run out of initiative faster, and then they can’t run away or evade, leaving them very vulnerable.

right now it impossible to fight a thief with 60% cloak uptime. the pet is useless and you can barely hit them.

Have you seen Hunger Games?
The first poor guy who died was the Ranger.
Are you forgetting the main character?
That’s exactly what i was thinking!
@OP, ranger is in a good place atm, it’s not the -strongest- but it sure as hell isn’t bad off. If you enjoy playing ranger, do it, we’re likely still going to get some love too.

Is it just me, or are they the exact same thing? I’ve double checked the stats and skills and they are identicle. The skins also seem to be the same, unless there is some risiculously small detail. I remember in the beta that the eagle was more of a bald eagle, with a white head and brown body, it was much cooler. Is it just me or is anyone else experiencing the same thing?
They -used- to be different back in beta, but now they’re the same other than appearance.
NOTE: Back in beta one of them applies 1 stack of bleeding for some ridiculously large amount of time (like 2 minutes or something stupid long like that) the other one did what it does now.

This really isn’t a “bug” per se. It’s a change that was made to prioritise player characters over targets such as summons/ pets etc so that it’d buff the nearby players instead of buffing, say, all the necro minions instead of the necro himself.
Though this does mean that your pet would lose out if you’re using warhorn within a group of 5.
Maybe it’s not a bug, but it certainly is a change to be desired.
I run a high-crit build and it is annoying when my pet does not receive the boons it needs.
If its that detrimental to your build throw 15 points In natures magic so he gets every boon you do.
Not good enough. Only applies fury for 3 seconds. (However, applies might for 10s…)
Um… no? It applies the boon for the same duration that you received it to your pet.
IE: You receive 25s of Fury? so does your pet!
Since when?
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Fortifying_BondI’ll need to test that out myself, the wiki is notorious for being incorrect.
Just tested.
Vigor duration on me= 11
Vigor duration on pet= 3
Huh, fair enough, vigor is pretty much useless on the pet though xD
Whelp, i still like the trait, but that’s more because i’m 30 points into BM and NM, so me and my pet get 5% damage boost while we have boons…

For skills I’m guessing you go with either a traps build or a signet build. I literally have never seen a ranger use a spirit beyond the starter zones, and I don’t know enough about shouts to judge. For land I have been using traps and for water signets. The thing is I think I do better in water so should I be running signet build? I doubt signets a bit just because the activate abilities don’t look that great. I also wonder how much the 90 stat points from the toughness signet matter when you’re dealing with a 1000 point stat.
Also, trait advice would be helpful. Thanks.
Well, toughness scales 1:1 for armor (armor is the stat that matters despite when people say), so depending on where you are armor wise, that could be quite a big boost! I personally am fairly infamous for using spirits (although i’ve grown to like my shouts more now that they’ve been buffed…), and i’d have to say they’re pretty good, they can use some love though because they’re not even close to being as awesome as they were in the first game…
EDIT: traps are a very popular build choice, so are signets, and wilderness survival, shouts are growing in popularity a bit atm, but not as much as sigs and traps (sigs and traps can be focused on more where shouts and wilderness not so much).
As you probably know, if you wanna go with a signet build go for marksmanship, if you wanna go with traps, go with skirmishing, if you don’t really care about either of those, there’s a lot more options.

Just curious, but how would this bow be petless? Because this just sounds like a kittening AMAZING skill set (such a throw back to GW1 xD), it’d be great!! However, i don’t think they’d have one weapon set that’d just miraculously did away with your pet… That being said it would probably have to follow the trend where there is 1 attack that puts a boon on your pet/causes your pet to apply a condition.
That being said i was thinking maybe Piercing Poison Arrow would cause your pet to apply some Vuln, maybe say, 5 stacks? over its next 5 attacks (or maybe just next attack), OR you could make Burning Arrow really add insult to injury and make it add a bunch of might (like 10 stacks for 5 seconds or so) onto your pet?
Thoughts?
PS: If you have something else behind the whole pet thing and as to why it wouldn’t be involved for this one weapon set, go ahead and explain that.

I don’t know if this will ever be implemented, but I like the idea of it. We are rangers after all – masters of hunting prey. And our pets are animals that hunt. I don’t think every pet should get the ability to do this, but a select few make sense. Drakehounds for example are bred to sniff out prey. Pets that would rely on sight for hunting, like an owl, would obviously not get this trait.
Actually, an Owl may be better at it because their vision puts ours to shame, so whose to say they aren’t capable of seeing what others aren’t?
True. They do have incredible sight. I was thinking very basic senses. Overall though, I like the idea.
They could also slip in the whole “Well these owls are different from our owls” sort of thing, seeing as how they are able to freeze people with their claws. They could do the same with other animals cough cough water breathing bears and cats xD cough.

No other class using a range weapon has to switch thier traits to be able to fully use their dps on a keep wall. Why should I give up qz, sharpening stone or another ability to have the same dps every other class has? Does a warrior carrying a rifle have to go out of combat and switch traits to make his F1 abitlity work? If my pet has 900 range and the enemy is in range he should attack every time. Guard should be an option to put melee pets on wall but not the only option to use my pets. It’s not about knowing the class but class mechanics working correctly.
No other class has like 3k Range and the ability to stand outside of LoS to do damage either.
Either you know something most rangers don’t and really would love to, or you just made your own ignorance very clear.
But please, how do we get 3k range again? Personally I can only get 1.5k. I’d love to have the same range as a Balista! Go on.
Watch my Natures Ninja videos
Our Pets basically have 3k clip range…I’ve personally sent mine outside of keeps to attack siege when we didn’t have any…You can do this basically over and over again and they can’t do anything about it.
yes, they can, kill your pet, and we will have a nice 60 cd….
Don’t let your pet die?
Between the Heals and Pet Swap, It doesn’t happen that often.
hahahaha, a pèt is instadeath the second time you send him to kill siege machines, if enemies are not stupids.
Um, no? I’ve sent my pet in to kill siege many a times.. Maybe if you’re running a kittening cat with 0 points in BM you can’t, but with just about any other pet you can!
PS: it’s apparent you don’t use guard, the CD isn’t 60s
Difference between youe cat and my cat, 300stat, 2 hit more to die…..ofc i can send my pet to kill siege, but if you have 40 foes near , your pet will die really fast.
seems that you fight against brainless people……
PS: You have 60 cd, when your PET DIE, i never said nothing about guard :P.
Why are you letting your pet die? If your pet is being mauled while he’s surrounded by 40 people just hit F4, no harm, no foul. And most of the Zerg in WvW -is- mindless and they will almost always ignore pets and only hope to kill them via AoE. And my bad, i thought you were complaining about guard being on CD xD, i have 30 points in BM so my pet swapping CD is shorter than yours (more like a 50s CD).
PS: Don’t even bring that “Oh well if you played on tier blah blah blah” bull kitten in here, i’m on T2 WvW, i know how the higher up people play, and they’re -still- kittening stupid.

I think pets need this. They are so useless against anything that cloaks. Even the AIs.
Maybe make it a trait or something.
TBH i think both pets (they have super senses they’d be able to smell/hear/ even -see- stealthed people) and illusions (they are literally in the targets mind) should be able to attack through stealth, turrets, and mecro minions…. yeah not so much…

Stopped playing the game. Things were / are not moving. Devs are taking a break !
Ranger is dead since release. I was lied upon. I was deceived. Warning period is over.
Rest of Ranger community take care of yourselves <3
Um, bye? God forbid the devs have some time off to celebrate the holidays with their families and not catering to your every whim!
PS: They are moving, they are moving slowly but moving, anet does balancing changes very slowly to make sure things are actually getting balanced and not just make drastic changes and see how everything plays out.
