Regarding elitism and raids; I think they should make tier progression like FOTM. This allows for a simple way of filtering out players to be grouped into similar skill levels. Back in gw1, the only reason why I only did UWSC was because of the summoning rocks requirements to join groups. The more rock requirement, the better the group usually. Of course since I was loaded in gw1 from pvping, I just bought 250 summoning rocks off of players and was able to join really good pugs:-D.

So in the current meta of PS war, double staff ele, guardian, thief, there isn’t alot of defiance stripping capabilities. Tremor, thieves guild, gust, 2headshots can allow for a quick second freeze that will still fall within lightning storm. Past that, eles will camp fire, and warrior GS. Which means if you are a thief going for a third freeze, you are doing no damage as you have to remove 5stacks by yourself. This is not optimal that’s all. Also for bosses that can die quick, or dont move alot you ignore defiance stripping.

I’ve been in groups where thieves are from dungeon guilds and are headshotting the first alpha in coe for a second freeze. Somehow a big majority of thieves in this game think they are CC bots for every boss.

Here is the problem that I usually see when I play with other thieves:
1: They spam headshot when there will be no more ice bows left.
2: They come into fights with x/p sb. when x/p d/d would be better.
3: The group intentionally delay the use of the icebow in a way that really hinders the overall DPS of the group. You want to use your highest burst when there is 25stacks of vuln(as in during lightning storms). 4 freezes for mossman is slow, l2p and stop using the freeze as a crutch, playing berserker is about killing things faster, when a 5man team with a Nomads AH Guardian can get similar kill times, it means the playstyle is not optimal.
4: Headshot spamming game causes the thieves to range the boss for the entire fight without them realizing.

TL:DR alot of berserker thieves are slowing their DPS down so much where they might as well play nomads AH guardian to get the same party effect.

In fractals, you don’t really see much corner stacking for bosses, so it should be a non issue. I really hope they introduce split tactics for a good portion of these raids similar to UWSC in gw1.

Well since icebow isnt getting nerfed and breakbars isnt coming out for a long time. Please stop headshot spamming your dps is worse than bearbows. AH nomads bunker guardian might also be a good alternative if you like headshot spamming all day :-)

I agree with Enko on defining what restricted actually means. Remember gais, it took the US decades to define who is a person and who is not so take your time Kappa.

yes, you can do a “intended” JP that abides the restricted rules.

combat log and record your boss times. Add all the numbers up divide by the time it takes to kill a boss and you have your real life DPS for that boss.

To answer your question of why no one makes pug builds: People that only pug are not interested in the game enough to come up with a pug build and spend hours editing a guide video. Special case being Nemesis who makes pug Necro builds. And of course there was a huge market for that which is why Nemesis has 200k views on his guide.

Things like that are exactly why we are doing this. The CoE door jump is completely within the bounds of the map and would be considered legit apart from rule 6 in its current form. But people were against that because of alpha. But we can simply add to rule 11 clarifying that you cannot engage inactive bosses. Then the issue is resolved with a more consistent rules.

If your issue is just wording then feel free to suggest adjustments.

The thing about that is, the gate after first alpha can be “exploited” too and will be the go to strategy since it will unlock the laser room WP.

Do you have input on how you think they should be worded then?

Well I know when I was practicing for the DnT trio tournament, alot of the rules were very ambiguous and were later cleared up or special cased.

Rule 7 is confusing, you can do a legit JP in arah p3 which then makes rule 11a. ambiguous. Since the JP is legit and within bounds, what is “All cutscenes within a dungeon that are relevant to the path must be triggered.” Are the crusher Cutscenes truly relevant?

Rule 11 is confusing as hell. Current volcanic fotm record bugs the Shaman AI and cause it to break for a good 10seconds.

Abusing of event scripts is banned 11a. Killing NPCs disables event scripts for se p3 and CM p3 final boss areas. Confusing wording.

I think that there is a bit of an issue with how this whole Trinity Discussion has been framed. I don’t think that GW2 will ever have a system where there is a dedicated healer, a dedicated tank, and dedicated DPS. It doesn’t fit with game, and it doesn’t fit with what Anet has revealed their design philosophy thus far.

What we’ll probably see in a GW2-flavored trinity system is a situation where every player is expected to play 2 of three roles (Damage, Sustain-Support, Condi-Support), and gear choices will have to compliment the roles players want to fulfill.

Roles:

  • Damage: Basic DPS
  • Sustain-Support: Support Through Healing/Tanking/Boon-sharing and general mitigation
  • Condi-Support: Support Through CC/Debilitating enemies with Conditions

Condi-Support in current meta: Guardian with purging flames, Virtue of resolve(f2) with absolute resolution trait.
Debilitating enemies with Conditions in current meta: Thief can poison, weaken, cripple and immbolize when needed. Ele can chill and give vulnerability.
Sustained-Support in current meta: Guardian can F2 to heal, can provide Aegis for general mitigation, can give stability boon to share. Eles can share might and fury. Eles can also Heal with staff 5 when needed.

Looks like the current game is what you want.

Honestly I think there are some players who shouldn’t play Berserker set ups. I had a real life friend who ran berserker guardian but keeps dying even in the easiest dungeons like SE because he was playing GW2 on a toaster and couldn’t dodge what so ever. Dead Guardian = no team support in WoR,stability, condition removal so my whole team wipes. I then complained to him that he should run knight’s gear and then runs got smoother. This was at a stage of my gw2 life where i pugged 2 random people with my 2 RL friends.

What I love about this game is that when content is balanced correctly(FOTM 50), Berserker is only BiS when your group is skilled. If your group is not skilled, having a guardian that is specced to be a bunker will probably be faster at completing the content( as shown in the [KING] tournament, where berserker players were slower than a group with a ptv bunker guardian)

I have a question for the people that think Berserker is the only viable way to play this game, where are you getting this information from?

Look up [KING] FOTM tournament. The tournament was about who can run FOTM the fastest and had top speed running guilds participating, aka some of the best players in PvE participated in this event. The 2nd place guys ran a bunker PTV AH Guardian. So how is berserker the only viable way of playing this game?

Ultra casuals play how they want. All welcome groups fill super fast. People that run berserker and are pugging to force people to run berserker, that I don’t understand. It’s better to join a dungeon guild at that point.

So lately I have been running with a bunch of guardians who have been running this Cleric’s build in FoTM, and when I asked them about the build, they linked me to this series of Video. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLCxfgAjHhmmy0a29VtGeRpCK4ADb4SQTS . After looking at it and experiencing it first hand I have to say this build is too broken. Like OMG I was literally AFKing and dealing a kitten ton of DPS as a thief. I didn’t need to dodge whatsoever, this clerics tank/healer was literally face tanking mossman/archdiviner like a pro on fotm 50. If you think berserker meta is broken, this is even more broken. The Guardian was basically invincible and because he had agro all the time, 4 of us DPSers just AFK dps, didn’t even need to dodge that much. Anet please nerf, this build is unacceptable.

So when you read LFGS “zerker exp only” it translates into “I want as much gold as possible on my limited play time, don’t join if you are going to slow me down.”

My solution: Along with the 24 hour time range/gate that is already in place, create a 30 minute time range where you can only earn 1 dungeon path reward and make the dungeon reward 5g.
What this does is it makes it so speed does not equal more reward.

So you rather want to reward "Hurr Durr, I’m going to join a “Zerker only” party with my nomads gear to troll them" -people?

Actually yes. I interpret anet’s design philsophy as one where they want to promote players to be friendly and not toxic. If we remove speed = more reward from deungeons, i believe there will be less zerker only elitism in lfgs.

Or instead of trying to join parties that have and ask for a different playstyle, you could be part of the solution and post “Path X All welcome” I see this a lot an I bet these groups probably don’t care what you run. Homogenized rewards seems like a poor idea. People would speed run a dungeon and start another and sit at the end until the timer ended then kill the boss for and ez 5g. Then do it again or farm else where while you facerolled to victory over the course of an hour in nomads.

People are reward driven.

Even if dungeons can only be done once every 30 minutes doesn’t mean I would want to spend 30 minutes inside a dungeon. I’d still want to spend as little time as possible in the dungeon. While waiting for the next time to go I could do other stuff, like farm, some PvP, a daily, go afk and do something at home. But NOT spend 30 minutes in the dungeon. That would be boring as heck.

Makes dungeons more casual friendly and you know Anet loves supporting casual friendliness.

right now I have plenty of gold and only dungeon for dungeoneer. Only like 30 skins away. This suggestions screws over people going for tokens. Not to mention it would be very complicated to implement. What if you DC? What if you buy a path? What if someone leaves half way through? Does the new person only take half the time penalty? I would see people taking alt accounts and opening the dungeon, letting it sit for 20ish mins then bringing people in or even selling the dungeon that hasn’t even started but has sat for 20 mins.

What if you DC now? You don’t get your reward.
With if you DC with the proposed system? You don’t get your reward.

What if you Buy a path now? You get your reward/
What if you Buy a path with the proposed sytem? You get your reward for the time range that you earned the reward on.

Does the new person only take half the time penalty now? no
Does the new person only take half the time penalty with proposed sytem? no

You can only get 60 tokens per day per path. It is already time gated.

This would just make more people unhappy. As things stand, people going for the berserker gear aren’t hurting anything. You can easily avoid them by reading the LFG and just not joining their groups. Putting dungeon rewards on a timer, however, would be penalizing a pretty decent number of people, particularly the ones who spent all that time learning to breeze through paths as quickly as possible (who are probably the people who use the dungeons the most).

There’s also the issue of new players. I’ve been in PUGs with several all-new players before and it definitely slows things down. If you put a time limit on, plenty of people are just going to kick the newbies on principle instead of risking not making the next reset.

Up the reward to adjust for the timegate it’s what they did when they introduced the 24hour time gate on dungeons.

I think a lot of people who are complaining about the berserker meta are mainly the ones complaining about it in dungeons/fotm. No one really complains about the berserker meta in open world. Most people choose “berserker” because they feel they can get the most gold out of their limited play time. If a player only has 1 hour to play, it is only logical for them to want to squeeze as many dungeons in as possible to maximize their gold rewards. Any one who is slowing them down is basically hindering their ability to get gold hence the conflicts and toxicity. Now this can be applied to beginner players as well. If beginners/non berserkers join a player’s group whose purpose is to get gold, this creates a toxic environment where one player’s goal(to make gold as fast as possible) is hindered. So when you read LFGS “zerker exp only” it translates into “I want as much gold as possible on my limited play time, don’t join if you are going to slow me down.”

My solution: Along with the 24 hour time range/gate that is already in place, create a 30 minute time range where you can only earn 1 dungeon path reward and make the dungeon reward 5g. So from 8PM to 8:30PM regardless of when you start, you can only get 1 dungeon reward if you finish in that time slot. If you started at 8:20 and finished at 8:40 your dungeon reward counts towards the 8:30PM-9:00PM time range. What this does is it makes it so speed does not equal more reward.

Nah its mobility meta. Full nomad tank team comp that uses mobility skills >>> Fully buffed DPS team comp RP walkers.

On a side note, I agree with Dusk, I think PS is a good thing for pugs.

“Mesmer” and “overpowered” in one sentence. For PvE, I think not… Blurred Frenzy would be the most used skill, while Portal would be the most characteristic.

well what other game mode do you think this thread could be about, when it’s stuck in to the fractals and dungeons forum?

Mesmer has no skills that would be considered triviallizing an encounter, or namely “overpowered”. If you say Feedback can nuke Lupi then Wall of Reflection could do the same thing. Is it overpowered enough to guarantee a nerf (which happens to to skills such as FGS, ice bow, black powder or healing signet)? Nope, I think not.

Untraited Warden used to be borderline overpowered. Right now none of the mesmer skills are worth called overpowered, in PvE.

No need to be hypersensitive. I don’t intend to open any debate over every single game modes here.

The OP did not really go with skills that trivialize encounters. Because banner of discipline sure is not doing that.

Well can’t think of anything else on a warrior’s kit that is more OP than disc banner.

Phalanx Strength? faceroll max might is quite OP

if only phalanx str was a skill. But yea that trait is stupid OP. I kind of wished there was a more skillful interaction with PS than just button mashing. Imagine if Phalanx str work this way: Everytime you sucessfully crit, the enemy drops an “essence of strength” in a random area around it. If you “pick it up” before this essence lands on the ground, you and your party gain 3stacks of might. Kind of like draven axe in league. So SICK!!1

For bosses: Learn attack animations, learn to dodge. Make sure you never attack the boss first so you are less likely to get agro. I don’t really think theres a trick to survive better unless you are running meta team comp and just range with icebow. Withdraw is also really really good for mossman,archie,svanir,mai trin.
