I will reiterate on this, but I believe when deciding for the first team comps and builds for raids, we should look at PvP builds and not PvE builds. PvP builds are versatile enough to sustain any possible opponent since we cannot switch builds in-fight. They are also generally more focused on surviving hard content than PvE builds.
And this is good, because while far from perfect, PvP class balance is much better than PvE balance.
Ok so 9 cele eles and a thief for raids? Sounds good.
How far is that from the current PvE meta?
oh god, check mate right there.

And if it’s a set of jumps and “no path” prevents shadow steps and you don’t have a warrior or a guard because no profession will be required…
Not trying to say this is an optimal situation at all, it’s a fringe case at best, but just one of the things concerning me. That gameplay through the entirety of the raid will be less entertaining because of something you should be using for a niche situation.
Ok have the death shroud necro tank over.. If there really is a super niche situation where there is only 1 solution, then the raid sucks. I am sure there are many solutions to niche situations.

Dusk and Eco hit what I was going to say. I’m still not sure I like it, but it has it’s merits.
I think Spoj makes some great points that can be concerning, but to add, I don’t want to be stuck throwing just nades on Engi because I have to slot some other utilities for some niche situation where they go unused for the majority of the raid.
Certainly conflicted, more and more the more I think about it.
If you are slotting a utility for a niche situation then your build is just suboptimal. Part of the fun is figuring out which class can spec a util/weapon set that can somewhat deal with a niche situation while still being general purpose. Remember you have 10 classes to work with.
Say there is part of the raid where you have to run through a barrage of damage to flip a switch to stop an AE. Taking Toolkit and Pistol/Shield allows me to run through this easily, esp the superspeed on toolkit. Then taking Slick shoes allows me to free up a few people in the group from having to make adjustments to their builds for CC. So now sure I have prybar to work into the rotation but other than that it’s a pretty mundane rotation. There may be other options but perhaps while you turn that switch you want your guards laying down reflects so they won’t go, you want your warrior staying to give might to the group so they won’t go…etc.
Of course we don’t know specifics but it’s a possible situation that concerns me.
Personally i would get the warrior to stop DPS and run over to flip the switch or tell the thief to shortbow 5 over. Because this approach is more general purpose.

Actually it’s sort of like trios where you will have to sacrifice certain utilities. You have to draw on your team’s strength and play around it. I believe SC ran double ele and 1 warrior for their arah p3 run in the first trio tourney where they basically sacrificed reflects on lupi for more DPS. I personally feel it will actually make team comps more diverse because different people have different strengths in the game and they value different aspects of mechanics as well. Just this weekend I had a debate with my guildie on hotw p1 trio where I valued a team comp that ignored the retal totem on Ginva and built a team around self sustain while having relatively high DPS, where as he valued high dps low sustain but instead opted to deal with the retal totem. Less options = you have to think about how to deal with situations more creatively.

Some more ‘fluff’ in regards to raids.
Now thats pretty good news i think. There will not be a group finder because this was intended to be coordinated endgame content, not something a PUG can tackle
actually its a misquote, you can still pug it.

“Because of the large diversity of encounters, I was prompted to ask whether players will be able to swap out abilities between boss fights. Johanson said that currently players are in combat the whole time they are in the raid instance, so swapping out abilities isn’t possible. But he did say that ANet is still “playing around with what [it] will let you change.” However, he was quick to point out that weapon swapping can easily change a character’s role in the group, and that can be done on the fly.”

Things to think about:
Trash mobs – Okay so you know how in gw1, any mob in the dungeon can drop ectos and obby shards which are ingredients needed for the legendary armor in gw1. The way they dealt with preventing people from farming the first mob over and over again was introducing an entrance fee which incentivize people to farm deeper into the dungeons to get more net profit. I feel fighting trash mobs can be interesting if there are certain spawn patterns(chaos planes in gw1) and players have to figure out how to pull as many mobs(mindblades) and how to avoid pulling unwanted mobs (skeletons). Just by having to pull lets say 30 mobs can instantly make tanks and CCs extremely valuable. In fact the ability for tanks to pull and hold mob aggro against extremely large mobs could be an optimal strategy.
No Waypoints – Again going back to FOW or UW, once you are dead, you can’t waypoint, you have to wait for your party to resurrect your and if your entire party dies, it is game over. What is interesting about this is that it makes DPS gear extremely risky but it will still remain as the most optimal gear option. If the first DnT tournament is any indication, no waypoints will make raids extremely difficult even if the difficulty setting is in the range of arah or fotm 50.
Traits and armor are locked in Raids – What is cool about this is it can potentially force a tank into being part of the meta comp. In the current system, one can freely swap into pure DPS or pure tank which makes party comps choose classes instead of specific builds. Imagine in PvP where you can do the opposite, a guardian can instantly spec into bunker when he needs to defend a point or spec into DPS when he needs to capture a point. It loses some team build identity.

You know with the raid example they gave on the tongue boss, I am a bit worried about the challenge in it. Honestly how hard is it to DPS down a wall that doesn’t have any defensive measures?
Wynd Cloud | Fierce N Licious
Make sure, together, we at least in written form let them differentiate between the real community and the extremists.
The extremists, which I assume are the PUG groups that kicks all non zerkers, are part of the community whether you choose to accept it or not.
“Circle —J3rk” is a pejorative slang term referring to a positive feedback loop which occurs when an idea, belief or meme that is already customary within an online community becomes re-iterated and rewarded in a perpetual cycle, giving rise to redundancy, clichés and karma kitten. This phenomenon is typically observed in communities consisting of self-contained forums devoted to specific interests, beliefs or subcultures.
Wynd Cloud | Fierce N Licious
Not going to lie, the contest sounds very circle j/3/r/k. What you fail to understand is anyone who plays dungeon content is part of the community. You can’t be selective and kick people out of it just because you don’t like the way they act.
Wynd Cloud | Fierce N Licious
Here’s a simple question to people who aren’t happy with some of us choosing to not run zerker in some situations. If I had my reaper in valk gear would you speed run with me or would you demand I run zerk?
I actually hate speed running pug groups, as I find pug and speed running as an oxymoron and usually most of those players are pretty toxic. I always pug random groups because its more enjoyable for me, the players are friendlier and they usually don’t rage. That being said, I am also in a speed running dungeon guild and I prefer optimal team comps in those situations.

I haven’t read what everyone else has wrote but I am going to respond to the original post; Fun is subjective. Play how you want means being accepting of how people play. This means if someone chooses to play Berserker, you let them. And if someone chooses to play Nomads you let them.

Do people want a universal ranking? Something which would combine all categories. Problems:
- Which categories should be included?
- How to treat records which fit multiple categories?
- How many points categories give?
- How to show it on UI?
- How to select it on UI?
Any other wishes?
I’d love to see an explanation on how points are allocated.

Officially running range shortbow thief and PTV guardian is the most effective way of running marathon fotm 50s. Proof: [KING] fotm tourney. That is fact everything else is just made up as there is no evidence to suggest berserker is better in marathon fotm runs.
Are you implying that anyone here said that using a Cleric Guardian in a trio fractal is a most effective way of running anything? We just said that it’s a good and smooth option. Nothing about most effective or anything like that.
People tend to have selective memory. They average their runs with their best runs and not their actual average runs.

Being a fan of SNL, it makes me sad that some of the dungeon community members in this game get offended by satirical jokes that they had to report this post. Maybe its a cultural thing where satire only flies in america and not eu/ocx.
Wynd Cloud | Fierce N Licious
Maybe! It’s hard to say. Short of a toughness or vitality check (ie. Boss does exactly 30k damage at some point and its fully unavoidable), there may not be a way to “force” the efficacy of tanky gear. That said, I certainly wouldn’t mind some mechanics that at a minimum make us think of using it.
I don’t think you can really do a toughness/vitality check in this game as ele literally has about 1/2 the effective HP of a warrior. This is a huge gap for a stat check.
So if you do a tank check; Warrior will have so much head room to spec into DPS that other classes that fail the tank check will not see the light of day due to them speccing heavily into tank stats and losing a kitten ton of DPS.
Wynd Cloud | Fierce N Licious

I sure hope no one can beat the content out of the box. If Clerics or PVT gear finds its way into successful runs, I hope it is because it is a necessary component of the success and not because they’re bad players using training-wheels-gear.
I am totally okay with tankier gear being necessary for success. Imagine a boss with an attack phase where it hits everyone in the raid who’s visible with a beam of energy that does a crapton of sustained damage and pretty much murders anyone in glass gear, but not everyone can stealth or else the boss resets. The one successful strategy might be 9 of the 10 people stealthing the entire phase while 1 cleric’s Guardian tanks, invuls, and blocks through the attack. Maybe it should be so much damage that there’d need to be two of these cleric’s Guardians that switch back and forth during this phase, moving into/out of the stealth blasts.
I’d call that kind of strategy awesome, especially because it would incorporate some tanking without killing the active gameplay of GW2. Hell, if we saw that exact strategy come to pass, I’d love every second of it.
Here’s to hoping.
It’s probably going to be “meta” for the first few months as I believe it is meant as a crutch. When people figure out all the details of said raid, berserker/dps gear will slowly transition itself back to meta. Unless of course they nerf the kitten out of the base heal on water field blasts and made it scale incredibly well with healing power and force wipe potential party wide degen mechanics. Then again, this makes no sense as the blaster’s healing power will account for the heal, and let’s be real Cleric’s/Zealot thief sounds lame.
Wynd Cloud | Fierce N Licious
(edited by EcoRI.9273)
Thanks to mobility nerf, thief is now good at running ahead of the group and triggering event dialogues!
Also if I recall correctly, their DPS now is kitten compared to other classes like Engie, and thief still the preferred class.

If you guys can beat the content out of the box then it won’t be challenging.

I’m in a slightly different boat. I work with a PvX guild that has near cap members. On a daily basis groups fom all over the place for every aspect of the game after reset. There’s about 2-3 groups running dungeons and fractals with that jumping to about 5-6 groups on the weekends. I find myself nearly on a daily basis running with those dungeon groups (less so recently due to extra seasonal tasks at work).
Our dungeon groups skill vary from complete newbs that are being mentored by more seasoned players to those very same seasoned players all being in the same group and pushing for fast clears practicing the latest and greatest strats (pull vs stack, portal shenanigans, consumables, etc).
So what is stopping your seasoned guildmates from participating? It sounds like they will do really well.
Wynd Cloud | Fierce N Licious
:-\ honestly it sounds like you guys actually have a good shot at winning. The thing about recorded speed runs is they are unrealistic times to have at live events mainly because of the RNG involved and some of the strats are very risky. For what its worth, I was in a pug group with guys who were very casual at the game and we practiced like only 2-3days total for the first tournament and we did surprisingly well.
Wynd Cloud | Fierce N Licious
(edited by EcoRI.9273)
Out of curiosity @savacli and @Kordash, how many people in your guild do dungeons on a daily basis and how often do you run with them?
Wynd Cloud | Fierce N Licious
Im calling it now; FOTM 100 is probably going to be same difficulty as fotm 50. Here is my thinking to it – You gain 1 reward level per shard/island. They have to scale the difficulty much less otherwise it will get too hard too fast for most people. And they also said they were going to make it easier for new comers. So if you think about it, its going to be another fractal reset trolololol..
Wynd Cloud | Fierce N Licious
It’s not dumbing down the competition.
You have to understand why this “casuals” (more like semi-hardcore) guilds don’t come in. They can’t invest as much time as the very hardcore crew (like rT, DnT…) in the game, creating a very high gap in skill, experience and game understanding. Those making competition completly pointless.
Moreover, you’re talking about “giving a feeling they can win”. That’s taking them for dumber than they are, we all know that whatever the path, they can’t compete with the very top (btw, i’m included in the first group, i’m not even close to compete in any actual PvE tournament)
The point here is having more “opened” events that semi hardcore players can compete in. The “pug” way may not be the best method, but it’s far from dumbing down the competition, since it is not aimed at getting the best time ever.
rT vs FGS never forget.

Wynd Cloud | Fierce N Licious
One idea could be similar to what i suggest previously but a best of 1. Let the lower seeded team decide which path to run with 1 week notice time. This gives a huge edge to the lower teams and gives them a feeling that they can win for the week/month event.
