Skritt Shinies!!! Yessssss!!!

From the lack of info on the wiki and the fact there doesn’t seem to be hostile skritt right now at those levels, I wonder if those wouldn’t drop only in cases of upscaled low-level events? In which case you might be out of luck.

Is there a known minimum of players that have to be present to upscale an event? It could be a fun guild challenge.

Are you looking for them to sell or open

I’m on a quest to open at least 100 of every bag in the game (so better-use-of-my-time arguments are not an issue). The crazy ~64s price for these bags mean that buy orders are probably never going to get filled (and I did have one out for a week and received nothing) so I will have to farm them.

Yes, I know where they should spawn, so that would basically mean Brisban Wildlands as I don’t think Skritt appear anywhere else but Magumma. The problem though is that aren’t all the Skritt in the central city friendly? Or is there something that turns them hostile you can trigger?

Been there, done that, still 176/177 -.-

Well, unlocking areas is not required for this achievement as long as you discovered all vistas, POI, waypoints, skill challenges and hearts. I’d suggest you go over the list the OP linked, print it maybe and tick the locations off one by one.

The explorer achievements are based on named areas and not the POIs, etc., so if this is what the OP is talking about it would be necessary to go there.

Wait, what? You have limits in who you can choose from for the racial support quest? I thought everyone had the same choice of Skritt, Hylek, and Quaggan. The first time I got to that stage in the Personal Story I had an Asuran character and I don’t remember Skritt not being an option (it’s been long enough that maybe I was mistaken). If the Skritt really aren’t an option for Asurans, what are they replaced with?

It’s no surprise to anyone that the biggest XP boosts are given from discovering new recipes, and in fact it’s literally the ONLY way to level up your crafts later on.

I don’t agree it’s the only way to level, as it seems there is usually one or two things (like insignia/inscriptions, or Ascended item refinement) you can still earn XP on even though this is of course slower than making discoveries.

Etymology of `the biconics`

in Living World

Posted by: Eggman.1405

Eggman.1405

Biconics, as in B-Iconics, or B-Class Iconic Characters (ie. 2nd tier notable characters).

So the developers tacitly acknowledge these aren’t the most interesting of characters and we still get to spend the LW content with them? Awesome.

Anyway, thanks for breaking that down. I suppose it’s also an attribute of this group’s poor development that they can’t even be bothered to name themselves. With both Taimi and Rox coming from cultures where teamwork is highly valued you might expect that one of them at least would suggest a name.

Entangle Changes

Eggman.1405

Is anyone else bummed out with the changes to Entangle? Even though the cooldown is reduced, the net time imprisoned/sec is going down from 1/7th to 1/12th (so to keep the imprisoned time in the same scale as the cooldown, it should only have been lowered to 8 seconds, not 5). It sounds like this is a change that maybe is getting made due to PvP complaints, which then ruins the PvE use of the skill.

On the other hand, since the 60 second cooldown makes this one of the fastest use Elite skills in the game (if not the fastest), will this make Superior runesets that activate on Elites more viable?

How to classify `generic` bags?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Eggman.1405

Eggman.1405

The game uses adjectives to describe a large percentage of the loot bags that drop: tiny, small, medium, large, and heavy. So from seeing the adjective you can guess that you have some chance of getting T1 – T5 materials with a much smaller chance of Tn + 1 materials. What is the usual drop from the bags that don’t have adjectives? So if I have a Miner’s Bag, is that similar to the Medium Miner’s Bag or the Large Miner’s Bag?

What is the origin of the phrase `the biconics` for this group (which I also note is usually not capitalized, unlike Destiny’s Edge)? Superior Items and the Forge

I’m hoping somebody can point out the rules for what Superior Runes and Sigils can be used in the Mystic Forge and under what circumstances.

I’ve been noticing that not all of these items even show up in the UI panel when you use the Forge, and that even when they do, you can place 4 of them in the Forge and the `Forge` button will be grayed out. Silly me, I assumed that you could recombine 4 Superior items to get a re-roll for something more useful (and since you can’t, I don’t know how they expect you to collect 6 instances of a soulbound rune that only comes from the Forge).

Guild Bank Question

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Eggman.1405

Eggman.1405

If you have a 1-person guild, you don’t have to represent it all the time, although I think you do have to represent when you wish to access it. In another thread a player mentioned that they accidentally clicked `leave guild` instead of `stand down`, so in this case, their bank was lost.

If you are really paranoid about making sure nothing is lost, invite one of your friends into this private guild and assign them a membership level where you have taken care to disable all of the abilities to interact with the guild bank. This way you won’t lose anything if you accidentally leave your own guild.

Since money is pooled with all characters on your account without having to stop at a bank, I’m curious as to why you feel you should store gold special somewhere.

You mean when you press the #2 downed skill? (Vapor form) if so thats normal

No, when you get back up from being downed all the 0 – 9 skill slots are empty just like if you have nothing slotted there at all. Then after 1 – 2 seconds they pop back up. Usually this means I’m downed for a second time since I can’t trigger the slotted healing skill.

Eggman.1405

I’m putting this here since I don’t know if this is a bug, exactly…

When I first started playing in March I did an Asuran Elementalist. Every time I’m downed with this character, the skill bar becomes empty for a couple of seconds after I get back up. I had discussed this with a friend and they suggested that maybe I was just suffering from lag…

After a month or two I had switched off from that character and played other things, and I had never seen this issue with my Ranger, Engineer, Guardian, or Necro, so I had forgotten this was even a problem. I fired up my Elementalist this week and I’m having the same experience- when only this character is downed, the skill bar disappears. Is this a known issue?

I am on a EU server, I can only play during a specific window time 5pm to 11pm GMT. Which would be about 12-5pm EST, I don’t know how I would fair on a NA server but I am beginning to loose hope on this guy, I’ve been 0/15+

This may just be a bad window. I’ve been doing the server reset and the reset +3h Teq battles on NA (so 5pm and 8pm PST) and haven’t seen a failure if I showed up 40 minutes early. My additional advice is that even if you show up in the Fen at the right time, don’t assume you’re on a good map- keep an eye out for Teq Taxi adverts in the LFG menu and switch if people don’t sound like they are organizing.

  • Is it time-based, or kill based?
  • Is it global, or per-map zone?
  • Does it affect all monsters on the map, or just the ones I’m currently farming?
  • Is it character based or account based? I’ve seen one post that claims it’s character based.
  • Once you’re getting a penalty, what removes it?

[Suggestion] How about crafting permanent gathering tools?

in Crafting

Posted by: Eggman.1405

Eggman.1405

That is a TON of gathering to counter the cost. Obviously convenience does need to be taken into account, not having to carry extras tools incase your current one runs out etc…. Even with that taken into consideration the gold loss for using the normal gathering tools vs the gold spent on an infinite one is marginal at best.

Of course the infinite tools are a far superior value. Unless I misread it, the comment was how much of a money sink the regular tools are. This would matter since if we were allowed to craft our own tools, ANet is potentially losing a large gold sink. With the current existence of infinite tools, I think that ship has sailed already.

[Suggestion] How about crafting permanent gathering tools?

in Crafting

Posted by: Eggman.1405

Eggman.1405

The other question that would be of interest in this discussion is if the standard gathering tools are any sort of significant gold sink.

Gold sink, yes, significant, I’m not sure, since the cost of the tools is more than made up for by the profit you will earn from whatever you harvest. A single piece of Orichalcum Ore is going for 5s 75c while the Orichalcum harvesting tool is only 4s 75c thereabouts. I also see so many players in the wild who already have the unlimited use tools that the coin spent on regular tools is probably negligible (negligible compared to things labelled a `gold sink`).

Rares in MF: Find 'em or Make 'em?

in Crafting

Posted by: Eggman.1405

Eggman.1405

Weapons of any other type should be thrown into the forge with 3 other ‘low value’ rare weapons, with at least one not matching the others in type; this gives you a weapon of a random type, including a chance at those high value precursors. You should never craft rares for this purpose, that is value destroying.

I’m not sure I understand the `value destroying` comment, when I’m talking about dumping things into the MF.

[Suggestion] How about crafting permanent gathering tools?

in Crafting

Posted by: Eggman.1405

Eggman.1405

Yes… but dont make them unlimited…. make them like 2 week duration

like you craft it.. it lasts 2 weeks and then it expires…

Now this is an idea that you could reasonably see happening (aside from the two weeks expiration). If we could craft the same items that currently we buy from the vendor, that would be pretty cool. The advanced versions of the crafting recipes could then give you more uses form the same quality of tool. So for example you craft an Ori sickle that has 75 or 100 uses instead of 50.

Class natural speeds based on armor weight.

in Asura

Posted by: Eggman.1405

Eggman.1405

This is an area where for me, fun trumps realism. The base character movement rate feels so darn slow compared to what you get once that first +25% (or even +15%) kicks in, I absolutely would not want my character moving even slower just from having Heavy Armor. If anything they should make sure every class has the +25% passive speed increase an an option.

Best level to open stuff?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Eggman.1405

Eggman.1405

My opinion carries no weight, but there doesn’t seem to be much wrong with using a level 80 to open everything. It gives you the shortest path for upgrades if you need to convert stacks to get T6 materials, and you can also just sell T5 stacks you don’t need to buy the lower tiers if that’s what you are really after.

Also I think it will matter if you’re talking about `bags` (used generically) that come from bosses or the bags dropped by regular mobs. If the latter (Heavy Moldy Bag, Tiny Ritual Bag, etc.), it won’t matter what level you are since the types of materials from these bags will be fixed and independent of your level. If you’re looking for a specific item, like Linen, you can open the boss bags with your best character in order to sell that loot to get money to buy the minion bags which will have a chance for that exact item to be in them.

I’m wondering if I missed something in the Personal Story. You show up at the seashore and play through the Battle of Ft. So it feels like I missed the bit where the Pact actually has to invade Orr. Maybe the video after the end of the Ft. Rares in MF: Find 'em or Make 'em?

in Crafting

Posted by: Eggman.1405

Eggman.1405

I’ve been reading a lot of opinions in various posts about the `best` methods for getting what you want from the MF. Thanks to the RNG factor I find it hard to agree with anyone in particular as to what you should be doing.

However, in the cases where you’ve already decided to dump rares (why is not important), it seems like it might be preferable to only dump rares you’ve crafted yourself. The reason being that you would save found rares to salvage for ectos and Major sigils/runes, with these items going into the forge to get yourself a Superior. If for some reason you really don’t want ectos you can salvage those as well or sell them to get more mats for crafting your own rares. Most of the Superior upgrades (with some exceptions, like the Sigil of Sorrows) go for 1g+ so it would look like you can stretch your RNG dollars a bit more going this route, or am I overlooking something?

Legendary weapons can have their stats switched to whatever you prefix you want, when you are not in combat. Example: Berserker stat set, Soldier stat set, etc etc.

So then basically this is the property that makes the Legendary BiS, since for any given stat configuration you can make an Ascended weapon to match it?

Your information isn’t updated. Legendaries are BiS.

Where is the accurate information posted? Right now I’m looking at the wiki.

The stats of legendary weapons can be changed when out of combat, so that doesn´t really matter.

How exactly does that process work? I’ve been told before that I should be able to transfer stats between weapons, but the transmutation charges only appear to affect skins.

Some Legendaries a waste of time?

in Crafting

Posted by: Eggman.1405

Eggman.1405

I’ve been poking around at the list of Legendaries to see if there was something I should try and shoot for, and I have to say I’m very surprised overall at their stats.

I thought it was odd that there was basically only one of every type of weapon, except for the two greatswords. So I guess that is okay in and of itself, except that the stats on these don’t seem that helpful.

The main example I’m looking at is Kudzu- the stats are split between Power/Toughness/Vitality, which, since DPS builds are basically king in this game, makes it less useful than Zojja’s Greatbow’s Power/Precision/Ferocity stats. And the base damage is the same between these two. Kudzu also comes with the lame (to me) Sigil of Celerity which seems less useful to a bow than the Sigil of Accuracy. Zojja’s Greatbow also gives you the two infusion slots while Kudzu has none. If they didn’t support infusions, I might have expected you to get at least 3 regular upgrade slots. So my takeaway from this is that as regards to bows, the Legendaries are not the BiS gear, even though based on their costs you would think they would be. Do other players agree with this assumption or am I wrong here? Is it really worth all the extra expense just to get footprints and the ability to say you did it?
