Idea surrounding cooking materials.

Roaming merchants with mini-events to get their items would be awesome, assuming they don’t become the only way to get staple ingredients needed in a lot of recipes.

Agreed, I think that would be a little too frustrating

Rather it would be nice if they are “luxury” cooking items. Things that you can make useful stuff with, but not completely staple. It wouldn’t work well if they carried ingredients for Omnomberry bars, for example :P

I’d love for these merchants to carry different kinds of recipes too, perhaps some long forgotten Canthan or Elonian dishes, or traditional dishes from all the different races (like you have some recipes from certain skritt, hylek etc karma vendors now)

I like the idea of some predictability, like them showing up in Lion’s Arch as you mentioned, but I also love the idea of adding some randomness to what these merchants carry.

I like your ideas. I don’t know how large zones can feasibly get, but even at their current size I think it’s very possible to create the experience you’re after by reducing the amount of waypoints and “civilized” areas. I understand your comparison of Metrica and some of the Norn zones. I really love the Shiverpeaks as well. I would certainly love to see more zones with that kind of atmosphere.

I do think they might need to have something more than just vast areas to cross to appeal to more players, some incentive for players to want to go there on foot other than pure exploration (though I know I would do it for the exploration alone). You can see that a lot of players dislike Orr’s many contested waypoints that make them travel across a large part of the map when they die. Then again you can’t cater to everyone :P I’d really like it.

You’re not the only one experiencing this issue.

Have a look through this thread and perhaps post your issue there.

It’s got 30 pages so it’s a bit much.. but you can search the thread for terms like “edit rank” etc. I haven’t read it all myself so I don’t know if there’s a fix yet.

You’re not doing anything wrong, anyway, hope it gets fixed soon.

You are definitely supposed to get rewards. I had a friend with this issue today and I’ve seen others as well.

Make sure you have the Point of Interest in the Chantry of Secrets. You can get there through a portal in Bloodtide Coast or through Fort Trinity. This seems to be something most players are missing when they’ve hit 100% without reward.

Analysis of GW2 WvW compared to DAoC RvR. [Long]

Eivene.9127

I’m still undecided about the anonimity. The trash talk specifically is what usually makes me shy away from most forms of PvP so I do enjoy the anonimity of WvW. Regardless, I think yours is a valid argument.

As for community building, I think we’re seeing it happen here on the forums as well as other places. Several home worlds have gained a certain… notoriety over the past few weeks. Internal community building is something left to the guilds themselves. I’d like to see a strong community on Sanctum of Rall.

Do you feel pressured to support GW2 via the cash shop? Why or Why not?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Eivene.9127

I know this is the most unpopular, most hated opinion of all but I feel that gold wouldn’t be so hard to come by if there was no gem/gold exchange.

And yes, I know “its to prevent the gold sellers”… except the biggest gold seller of them all is currently Anet, and they also control the gold influx so it’s kind of unfair…

I think this is a valid discussion and if it worked for GW1 I’m inclined to think it should work for GW2, except they’ve chosen a different course. Some call it greedy, others see it as a business strategy or simply a different mindset. I have to say I really do like having the exchange, but I see your point.

(sorry for the second post :/ I don’t know if it’s just me but the edit buttons keep disappearing.)

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Eivene.9127

I believe OP is referring to the scarcity of gold not to the shop items themselves.

Understood. But I still see the gem store items as bonus items more than anything else. I don’t see anything in there that is essential for playing. They might be tempting, but not so necessary that there is pressure on me to get them with real money if I can’t generate enough in-game gold.

Gold is scarce, that is definitely true. I might be the minority here but personally I prefer it that way.

(I do wish the armor would just look broken instead of disappearing.. so embarrassing. Luckily that’s only happened once :P)

Eivene.9127

Likewise I haven’t felt pressured to use the gem store at all. I still see everything offered in the gem store as bonus items. I haven’t felt a need to acquire anything offered in it. And when I do get something I know that I can use in-game gold, so it’s all good by me. I feel no obligation whatsoever to spend real money.

I do think the Black Lion Chests could use work, like others I have about 40 sitting in my inventory. I can’t say I feel pressured to buy keys, quite the opposite. I think it’s an issue that I don’t even feel tempted to get keys. And even if I did I can use in-game gold, I still don’t feel pressured to spend real money.

The only item I really like to get from them are fine transmutation stones, though, so I dread opening all 40 of them. Tonics in GW2 don’t have the same “pull” that tonics in GW1 did, to me. While the boosters and repair kits are nice, I’m absolutely fine without them. I would like to see keys drop/be rewarded a little more, and I’d like to see fewer chest drops.

Just what should we be able to handle?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Eivene.9127

Eivene.9127

A lot of this game is not designed to be solo’d which is stupid because majority of people play solo unless by chance someone is around and you join them, people that send random invites for their party to complete quests are called trolls and people seem to turn into confused zombies as to why someone sent them a invite. I think if the game somehow adjusted to the fact you are fighting something solo and lowered its HP and if more started attacking it the HP went down slower,no idea really I just know some areas of this game are impossible without at least 5 players.
Seriously though the fact you die so quick and fight that pathetic “downed state” sequence of crap you would think they would allow you to repair your own armor without spending 100’s in copper waypointing to a repairer because your undies got damaged..

Actually, most of the game is designed to be completed solo, except for dungeons, certain Champions and events specifically labled “Group Events”. ArenaNet have stated from the start that this should be a game that people can play by themselves.

It takes some practice, though. Some professions are currently having an easier time than others and there are still areas that need some tweaking here and there.

What you’re suggesting, the game already does by itself. When you’re solo, the content is easier, fewer enemies spawn and they take fewer hits to kill. When more players join an event, more enemies spawn, with higher health, etc.

If there’s something you find that’s absolutely too difficult to solo, make it known to the devs! It’s important to be specific about it. Tell them exactly where you are, what you’re playing with, which enemies you’re facing and what it is that makes the content too hard to solo, so they can review it.

SANCTUM OF RALL IS HACKING AND EXPLOITING

in WvW

Posted by: Eivene.9127

Eivene.9127

We appreciate you reporting anyone using exploits or hacking, because there is no fun winning anything through hacks.

But please, refrain from making sweeping statements about the entire server being in this or expecting us to somehow be able to stop other people’s behaviour, save for reporting them.

Likewise I can speak for myself and my guild that we did not know of this at all, and it is simply silly to assume that all players know exactly what is going on in all of WvW at all times.

It would do you credit to target the people who actually exploit and hack. Accusing an entire server of such tactics or even suggesting that we’re all in on it deters from your argument and doesn’t help the cause.

Nobody likes hackers. We are just as happy to be rid of them as you are. Serverwide punishments don’t actually solve the issue in any way, it only hurts all legitimate players. The best we can do is report, and as mentioned by Elthurien, send your screenshots to exploits@arena.net

Audio Problems with all storyline conversations.

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Eivene.9127

Eivene.9127

All my characters are female, and I’ve noticed this on my human, asura and charr personal storylines. It happened much more for my Charr thief (female, Subterfuge, Sorcerous Shaman, Euryale, Ash Legion, Ferocity) than any other character, though. I can’t tell if that’s because it’s specific to that storyline or if the problem has increased since I did my human story just after release.

I have repeated some story parts (exited before the end in order to restart) and found that it’s always the same lines missing.

I’ve typed out every line in bug reports so far, including a screenshot of my audio settings in case that matters, though it doesn’t seem to make a difference.

As Leiloni said, the character does not have their speaking animation either when the lines are missing.

Most of the time I notice this happening in cutscenes, but the characters usually speak after the scenes as well, during combat for example. Some of these lines are also missing. I’ve reported these where I noticed them but they are easier to miss.

Edit: just to confirm the above, I made a male Charr thief with the exact same background choices, no issues so far.

  • The Tribune’s Call – Report to Tribune Desertgrave at her office:
  1. Rytlock Brimstone: “Hey, hold on. I know this soldier. Fought Barradin with me. Made legionnaire already. Excellent, excellent.”
  2. Rytlock Brimstone: “Fine. I’m putting a lot of trust in Ash here, Torga, but you’ve got a legionnaire I respect on the job. Because of that, I’ll hold off. For now.”

Missing on a female character, perfectly fine on a male character.

As a general tip to anyone: If anything like this ever happens, be sure to document everything. Print screen the conversation, note the time and date, and everything you did, etc. Give them as much evidence as you can.

From the wiki

Now that, though, seems to suggest the state of low/medium/high is more “set”, maybe they look at total number of players there? I can’t be 100% sure about how this server population thing works. I’m only speaking from experience with our members.

1 vial in 300 kills sounds quite low.. Are you doing all the events you come across? If not from the random mobs I meet in the world, I usually get quite a few crafting materials from loot bags dropped while doing events. Renown Hearts and Dynamic events should give you a decent money income. Are you exploring everything the zone has to offer? The game really rewards you for going out of your way to see everything there is. Zone completion adds more coin and materials. You should come across enough mobs to build up a decent stock of crafting materials as well.

If you want to be super fast about it, then yeah you might have to buy these things on the trading post, but just completing zones and visiting more areas of the same level (say all the starter areas, and all 10-15 zones rather than just the ones specific to your race), I have no issues getting mats.

Once you know which enemies drop the materials you need, just go find some populated spots. Skale and drakes can almost always be found at rivers, for example.

How to build traits :(

in Elementalist

Posted by: Eivene.9127

Eivene.9127

I mostly play Scepter/Dagger and Dagger/Dagger, though I’m trying to get myself into playing the Focus some more. Staff I only really use in WvW.

I would love to be able to switch between two builds.

I personally really like using signets. I usually have two signets (3 including the heal), Water and Earth mostly, and an arcane spell like arcane wave or shield.

I’m having a lot of fun so far using:

20 in Fire
Internal Fire
Pyromancer’s Alacrity

30 in Earth
Signet Mastery
Serrated Stones for longer bleeding
Written in Stone to maintain passive effect of signets

10 in Water
Cleansing Wave, sometimes Shard of Ice for vulnerability

10 in Arcana
Elemental Attunement for the boons

I actually do not have an issue with the recharge rate on attunement swap, so I don’t really feel the need to put more than 10 points in Arcana. I’m debating taking them out completely and putting another 10 points in Fire. While the attunement boons are nice, I played without them long enough to think of them as an added luxury.

I move in close with air, lead with earth to bleed and cripple everything, switch to fire to burn and damage everything that hasn’t already bled to death. I just don’t use water much unless I need condition removal.

In general, whatever you pick, choose traits that benefits the utilities and skills you use and the style you want to play. There are traits that benefit cantrips, signets, arcane skills. Or ones that give you generally power, swiftness, condition duration, etc. Pick a theme and build everything around it.

sPvP is a nice way to try out traits before you spec them in PvE, considering the cost to reset your trait points once you’ve picked them.

v For a while I used pretty much the build that Selix posted down here, also very nice. I just didn’t really make good use of the 3 stacks of might, because I always use mist form and lightning flash to get away from the fight, not towards it :P

[Question] - Would you pay for more content

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Eivene.9127

Eivene.9127

I see myself playing this game for a long time. I won’t be done with this so easily I also don’t mind paying for minor conveniences. I’ve bought 2 character slots and some bank tab expansions. In my eyes it’s a really awesome deal for not having to pay monthly fees. And there’s even the option of buying it all in-game. Honestly, it’s the best thing I’ve come across.

DLCs are not my thing either, though. I don’t really like the idea getting single areas or dungeons or other minor updates at a time. I’ll may buy them if they’re fairly priced, but with such small updates I’m less inclined because it doesn’t feel like they add a lot to the experience. It’s just not my preferred system for getting new content.

Expansions/campaigns though, yes! I guess it just has to do with volume and change. I like getting a big chunk of new stuff to explore, discover, and spend a lot of time on. It feels like starting a new game entirely That’s certainly how Factions, Nightfall and Eye of the North felt for GW1.

I’m coming up to level 64 in game on my elementalist. My weapons of choice are by far scepter/dagger and dagger/dagger for most situations. I only ever use my staff in WvW. I’m not much of a PvPer but from what I read and see, scepters and daggers are a good choice there too.

You’re not forced to choose the staff, but you do need to be careful to keep a constant distance between you and your target (for scepter) or learn to dance around them, hopping in and out of melee range (daggers). Use skills like burning speed and updraft (daggers #3 and #5) to get away quickly.

Use your attunements wisely to slow, interrupt, knock down or otherwise keep your target in place. Be sure to time your dodges by looking at the animations of the enemy, you can learn to see a hit coming

For practice, I’d suggest taking these weapons and gear and just going to a starter area. You’ll have an advantage against enemies even though you’re scaled down and it gives you a little more leeway to get used to the playstyle!

Issues with the guild system: please post here [MERGED]

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Dascarian, as for guild influence and server switches, maybe this answers your question?

“However, Influence is accrued and spent separately by the guild members on each world. For example, a guild with players in Maguuma, Blacktide, and Riverside will have three different pools of Influence and three different build queues, one for each world.” (taken from the wiki)

So yes, this is an intended feature.

Our guild, Perfectionists Cult [NICE] on Sanctum of Rall also has the issue of the guild logo not showing up in the guild panel at times. We also have experienced the issue of NPCs telling us we are not in a guild.

Lastly, so far I seem to be the only one in my guild who experiences this issue (or who has noticed), the build queue intermittently disappears. When that happens I have no way of telling whether something is still researching save for looking at the guild log to see if anything has been completed or asking my guild mates.
