Still, I’m going to kill her. I’ve got time to work on it, and I’ve got the patterns down pretty well. I’m also saving myself from frustration by stopping once I start getting annoyed at her. It’s just a game, no point to doing something that’s irritating me. It’ll still be there tomorrow.

I have no doubt that you will get her =) since you’ve got the patterns down, it’s now just a matter of practice.

I beat her on my mesmer too. During my winning fight I didn’t even have to dodge all that much because I just ended up in the right place at the right time to avoid the AoEs, only using my dodge and blink as a last minute panic option. It was like puzzle pieces just all falling into place haha.

You can do this! Good luck! \o/

How many of you have 100% map completion?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Eivene.9127

Eivene.9127

I have 8 characters, one for each profession.
All of them are level 80.
2 of them have 100% world completion. My ele and my engineer, my two favourite characters.

I completed WvW “in advance” on my mesmer, in case I ever want to do another world completion, but at the moment PvE exploration is lacking the challenge for me. After leveling eight characters I’ve seen pretty much everything there is to see as well, so the wonder of exploration has passed.

Now I focus on WvW and PvP until they decide to expand the world map =)

It’s also extremely simple to just not type them =)

People keep their filters off for a variety of reasons. It doesn’t change the rules that ArenaNet have set up and the consequences for breaking them. You can read about them here.

I get the frustration, and I don’t mean to keep arguing :P But for future purposes it’ll help you (and anyone reading this) to know that they take such things seriously.

Eivene.9127

The difference is that the restaurant actually allows smoking in a particular area of the building. Swearing, in GW2, is not allowed under any circumstances. There isn’t a section in GW2 where it’s ok to swear because there’s a filter. Bad language is always against the Terms of Service, and you agreed to them before you started playing the game.

But since not everyone follows the rules, there’s a filter as a last resort. If someone breaks the rules, people can choose not to be confronted with it.

Generally they don’t suspend people for “slips of the tongue”. Consider that perhaps you were suspended for something you said a while back, but the agent hadn’t reviewed it until now. You can open up a ticket with support if you feel you were suspended in error, but otherwise you’ll just have to sit it out.

The filter is not a license to swear. The Terms of Service still apply and ArenaNet take them seriously. The filter is just there to protect people in case someone does decide to cross the line.

Eivene.9127

Interesting read so far =)

I’m a woman. My main is an elementalist, then an engineer, mesmer and necro so yes, mostly light classes.

The reason I enjoy them, particularly the ele and engineer, is because they offer more complex gameplay with attunement/kit swapping. They make me work harder for my results. I set out with the idea that I’d level one of each profession, but I just don’t enjoy warrior, guardian or ranger very much because they are more straightforward in comparison. I’m on the fence about the thief.

I do notice that I tend to play my caster classes in melee range, which I never really enjoyed before GW2. This game made melee fun for me, particularly on squishies for the high risk factor. I enjoy playing supportively at times, especially offensive support like crowd control.

Physically, I don’t really like for my characters to look too cutesy. I go for the broadest, most athletic looking body types (it makes sense if they’re going to be running and fighting all day) and my characters tend to be fairly tall.

The problem with such names is that, unless they speak Arabic, people are unlikely to know that jihad means internal struggle. I’m sure you’re aware that the word has a very different connotation for many, if not most other people.

No one is able to know what you mean when you create a name, they can only relate it to their own experience. That’s why these kinds of names are not allowed, even if they do not refer to any particular person or religious figure.

It’s considerate of you to apologize, but as said above, if it’s your first offense then you should be able to log in to change the name. Otherwise you’ll just have to sit it out and carefully consider the connotations of your name next time.

Razer naga keybind setup

I keep it simple on my naga too.

1-10 on the Naga for all my skills, I have no trouble reaching them
11 = autorun
12 = stow/draw weapons

Mouse wheel click = dodge
Buttons 5 (underneath the mouse wheel) = weapon swap

ESF = forward, strafe left/right
D = about face (turning on the spot)

QWRT = F1-4 for easy attunement switching
Alt = Push to talk
Space = Jump

That’s the gist of it. I have played around with using only 1-5 on the naga and AZXCV for heal/utilities/elite, and I like that too.

Keep in mind that you can only send out a few messages (generally 2 or 3) at a time, before you get suppressed for excessive messaging. You then have to wait around a minute or so before you can send two more, and so on, so it’s a time consuming process depending on the size of your guild.

Why do you play on your server ?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Eivene.9127

Eivene.9127

We chose Sanctum of Rall because of the story behind it. The server was named after Roger “Oldroar” Rall, a long time member of Gaiscioch who was very dedicated to Guild Wars 2 during the last part of his life. After his passing away in 2011, GSCH got in touch with ArenaNet and put in a lot of effort to establish a relationship with them and getting across the idea of naming a server after Roger Rall, which eventually they did.

Like many others, we were very touched by this story and it seemed to us that the presence of GSCH would be a very good influence on the server and would help to foster a sense of community on SoR.

We’re still very happy with our choice of server, the guilds that populate it and the connections we’ve made with them.

Increase in bandwidth used per hour?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Eivene.9127

Eivene.9127

Wow, that’s.. huge. I have never seen GW2 take up that much bandwidth and other than patches I can’t think of anything that would cause it to do that. The most I’ve seen is roughly 60-70mb per hour during primetime zerg WvW. Are you absolutely sure there wasn’t anything else running accidentally? (I once lost a lot of bandwidth due to the BITS windows service :/) Have you used any of the new in-game overlays or similar event tracking software that people have been creating?

Personally I haven’t noticed a change. I monitor my usage as well and just went through my logs to check. I’m still at 15-25 per hour when I’m actively playing and hopping zones, and ~55mb in WvW.

Rate the Asura Name Above You!

in Asura

Eivene.9127

^ Lore-wise it sounds more like a charr name than an asura, but fitting for an engineer

I have a couple of asura.

Josca – My female engineer, it’s actually a play on my dad’s name. He’s a big DIY guy and generally a genius mechanic/engineer. I grew up with our living room full of cogwheels, electrical wiring and various motorcycle parts from wheels and suspensions to entire engine blocks. I love my dad, and I love my engineer!

Grexxa – My female necromancer, from the latin noun grex, meaning flock. I felt it fit with the concept of minions, even if I rarely use them.

Epigrapher Evvi – My second elementalist (after my main, a human). I wanted a glyph based build or possibly an s/d burst build with air magic and epigraphy is the study of inscriptions.

Gadgeteer Glixx – My second engineer. Josca is a pistol/pistol or pistol/shield all things condition engineer, but I wanted another engineer for a static discharge or power build. I’m pretty sure I saw a Glixx earlier somewhere in this thread too, so I know I’m not the only one. (I really would’ve liked Engineer Xapp, an asura NPC from GW1, but someone took that name already haha)

Opening 1000 regular Dragon Coffers [Merged]

in Dragon Bash

Posted by: Eivene.9127

Eivene.9127

I didn’t keep a very good track of my results, but I got a ticket today around the 1500 coffer mark. Knowing that I wouldn’t have much time to play during the festival, I farmed orichalcum for a few days to be able to afford some coffers off the trading post in addition to the ones I farmed.

I’m not totally opposed to RNG in this fashion. Anyone who’s played GW1 should be familiar with ridiculously low drop rates but I felt that there was a bit more fun to it in GW1. Comparing it, we had four days to amass Lunar Fortunes, and they had a ~0.5% chance to drop a celestial mini back then.

I’d like to see a few improvements in GW2:

  • No more coffers sold through the Trading Post.
  • Slightly upped drop rate, I think between 0.1% and 0.5% would be fair given that we have an entire month to get the boxes
  • Tradeable tickets
  • Festival quest lines that reward coffers, as an alternative to farming.

I wouldn’t mind the option of buying skins directly through the gem store, but I really like the option of getting them in-game (as in, not converting gold to gems), even if it’s through RNG.

Third side party programs for colour-blind

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: Eivene.9127

Eivene.9127

First of all, one of the last updates changed the way the red circles look and made them more distinct to try and alleviate this issue. They have a very jittery, aggressive edge now. Has he tried it since and is he still having difficulties?

If so, then ArenaNet’s general policy is the following:

Our general policy is that anything that gives advantage is forbidden; anything that imbalances the game in favor of one player over another is strictly disallowed. With that said, we are aware that some utilities help players without impacting others, that is, they do not give anyone an advantage over someone else.

The best way for a player to [determine] whether a specific third-party program could have any impact on another player or a PvP opponent is to ask:

  • “Does this program allow someone to play faster, better, longer, or more accurately than someone who doesn’t use it?”
  • “Does this program allow someone to ‘play’ when he/she is not at the computer?”
  • “Does this program allow the user to gain undeserved rewards?”

Right now your friend is at a disadvantage, and it seems such a third party programme would merely allow him to be on par with other players. In line with the first quote, it should help him without giving him an advantage over others.

Having some trouble opening your link, but if that is indeed the case, then he doesn’t have to worry =)

While I don’t have any experience changing colour values, he might be able to use SweetFX to tweak colours to suit him. I’ve been using it myself since launch to add some additional sharpening, mostly.

What's your main?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Eivene.9127

Eivene.9127

tl;dr I play WvW and PvE most of the time, and switch between ele, engineer, necro and mesmer. I have come to realize I really enjoy playing an offensive support type. I love crowd control, I love complexity and love micromanagement.

My main is my elementalist. I chose it initially because I mained an ele in GW1, but the way I play in GW2 ended up being completely different. I just fell in love with dagger/dagger during the beta weekend and haven’t looked back since.

I love the active, fast-paced playstyle when I’m alone, GW2 made me realize that I love being in melee range or hopping in and out of close range. I didn’t like it in GW1 aside from vaettir farming. Being able to use skills on the move makes a really big difference.

I still enjoy playing staff ele too in WvW. I love it because I have a good grasp of my role in a group and really love playing crowd control. A well placed static/ice field right after an ally’s nullfield/well of corruption is very satisfying. So my ele is still my main overall, just for different reasons now.

The engineer because it is very similar to the ele in juggling different skill bars with kits and because it is very strong on the control aspect with a wide variety of cripples and immobilizes. I love the versatility, do I want kits and if so, how many? Do I want elixirs or (pending future polish) turrets? Engineer feels really unique, but it makes you work hard for your results. (I really look forward to ANet improving turrets, I would love to use them. Engineers aren’t too different from ritualists in GW1)

The way I play my mesmer is far closer to my GW1 ele. More calm and calculating, I guess. Playing the mesmer feels like dancing. Again, I really love hopping in and out of close combat with staff & sword/offhand. I like playing shatter builds but also really love minding, controlling and supporting my phantasms. On top of that, it brings amazing utility to a group.

The necromancer.. well. I refused to play a necro in GW1, and for a long time in GW2. I really dislike the whole concept of necromancy, it just irked me. But I ended up trying it out and I just love it. The necro I particularly appreciate for the boon reversal and condition transfer/removal. The staff has nice Area Denial/CC options as well.

The four others; thief, warrior, guardian and ranger I’m working on but I can’t say I enjoy them as much. The thief is fun and active, really teaches you about positioning and dodging. I love the concept of the guardian and would like to play the role it can fulfill, but it’s too tanky for my liking. The warrior is fast-paced, but also fairly straightforward. The ranger just hasn’t really clicked yet.

But I am determined to have one of each at level 80 so I’ll stick to leveling the other four and trying to find a good niche for them.

I felt Necro had the most personality in the profession, the most unique style and mechanics, the only problem I have with it is that a Necro is a Necro, with a warrior I could customise my guy to be a knight, or a evil warrior sort of thing, and it would feel totally fine, but the Necro feels like it needs to look a certain way.

While I get that, I think you have some leeway to think outside the box! I really like combining race/class. I have an asura necromancer and she does not look necro-y at all. I decided I would focus on her haughty asura personality, so she is dressed in fancy, colourful cultural gear. She is an asura researcher first and foremost, she just happens to research the concept of necromancy. In a similar way you could give your charr a very rugged legion look. A fierce blood legion look or a sturdy iron legion outfit. I don’t know your legion background, but I love the idea of characters that don’t necessarily look like you expect them to =)

Dynamic Events (orange circles on your map) will give you most of your experience. Many of them are part of a chain too, so don’t just leave when one ends, because a new one might pop up! Explore all corners and harvest plants, mining nodes and trees too. It’s easy to overlook the gain from it. Have you done your personal story in between? You can gain a few levels from that too.

If you don’t want to stick around Queensdale any longer, you can always go to one of the other race’s starting zones. There’s a portal to Lion’s Arch in Divinity’s Reach. Once in Lion’s Arch, you can take the portals to any of the other main cities and into their starter areas.

Why do you display a certain title?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Eivene.9127

Eivene.9127

I either pick titles that I’m proud of achieving, or titles that fit the character.

It’s been mentioned before, but I have a dagger necro wearing the Master Carver title as well. In the same vein, Avenger of the Dispossessed fits with my warrior’s background. Distinction in Applied Jumping for my asura engie, because asura like to show off their superiority and I like doing jumping puzzles with them. My two sylvari both wear the HoM Traveler title because I like wandering with them.

I do agree with the sentiment that GW1 titles felt like they were worth more. I never thought I could get the titles though, so I didn’t get into titles until shortly before GW2 and I never completed GWAMM. I’m hoping they’ll revamp/upgrade the GW2 title system eventually.

Bandwidth?

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: Eivene.9127

Eivene.9127

I’ll try to answer as comprehensively as I can, since I play with a cap as well.

First of all, the game takes up various amount of bandwidth depending on what you do. Idle, it takes up to 5-10MB per hour. Playing “normally” (occasionally hopping zones, switching characters, doing PvE stuff), it hovers around 15-25MB per hour for me, and it’s always on the lower end if I stay in one zone. World vs World is somewhere around 50-60MB per hour from my own observations (playing on a tier 1 server). I use a program called NetLimiter to monitor my bandwidth usage.

I actively play between 4 to 5 hours a day (including WvW) and I leave the game on in the background a lot during the rest of the day so I can chat with guildies or be around if anyone has questions.

Most of the big monthly game updates have been around 450MB. All smaller patches and bugfixes tend to be roughly 55MB, and there’s usually a couple of those after a patch.

With that amount of playtime/updates, I usually end up with my game taking up around 6.5-7.5GB per month.

I hope that provides some insight =) I used to have a 10GB cap (so yes I was pushing it :P considering we need the net for other stuff too) and now we have 20. It really depends on what you do and how many hours you spend in-game.

I can highly recommend getting some software to keep an eye on things, though, that way you don’t have to worry. We have the luxury here that we can buy more bandwidth if needed, so we never technically “run out”, it just gets expensive if we do that regularly.

There are a couple of different dates for Mother’s Day around the world, but for the majority it’s on the second Sunday of May. The other blob is spread over March 8 & 21.

Thank you for the updates!

What is your favorite class in wvwvw

I like taking many different professions into WvW but at the moment I really enjoy necro for the boon/condition conversion aspect of it. Staff has some really nice control options and marks are just great in zergs. Death Shroud can be very useful, and a well placed epidemic is just so satisfying. I keep switching between power and condition builds, I really enjoy both.

I also enjoy playing mesmer for the utility it brings. Portal, veil, timewarp, nullfield, mass invisibility and so on are always useful. I take my ele and engie into WvW pretty regularly as well.

How to Dance, Volume 1

in Black Lion Trading Co

I suspect it’s not because of the emote but the fact that it replaces your utility skills with three different dances that can be changed on the go, and the ability to invite/follow others. There’s a little more tech involved. They also had this structure in place already for other items, so it would make sense for them to go with this.

Honestly, at first I also disliked that it takes up an inventory spot but I’m really loving it. It’s made synching dances so much easier and I love that people who don’t have the item can still do the dance this way. I’m willing to give up an inventory slot for that.

Transferring Worlds

Yes, it is. You only technically pay for transferring characters. Without them, world switching is free. Keep in mind that you can also always freely guest to worlds within your region.

The wiki links to Gaile’s confirmation post here =)

The tiers refer to the current world ranking in WvW. Tier 1 are the servers on place 1, 2 and 3, Tier 2 are servers on place 4, 5 and 6, and so on. You can see the WvW rankings on this site.

For NA, tier 2 are currently Dragonbrand, Tarnished Coast and Fort Aspenwood. For EU they’re Elona Reach, Kodash and Jade Sea.

I don’t really know which worlds are currently ranked “medium” for a 500 gem transfer, though, but there’s always the option of saving up a little, perhaps. That said, I think you can find fun WvW in lower tiers too.

Race Choice for Guardian - Looks / Feel

in Players Helping Players

My current guardian is a female charr. I’ve started a guardian several times but it took me a long time to actually like the profession, so I’ve gone through character creation a few times.

I chose the charr precisely because it’s a little off the beaten path, as you already said. I like the generally beastly look you can create for them. While my guardian can support, I don’t necessarily look at her as “protective”. I can be a fierce guardian. I look at my guardian as someone who boosts their team in a tactical fashion while leading the charge. I understand your issues with the head/neck region. I found that there are a few body types where the neck is less pronounced and not as high, so it doesn’t look so odd.

Before this I had a sylvari guardian, as a totally different character. For the same reason that it’s not something you initially would expect. On the sylvari, I don’t necessarily look at the guardian as being a heavy profession, I figured that the theme of sylvari as “wardens” fits really nicely with the concept of a guardian and contrary to my charr, I didn’t feel that my sylvari guardian had to look heavy. I don’t really like “regular” armor on sylvari in general, but with this in mind I like the leafy cultural armor.

Have you gotten the Chantry of Secrets? It’s the headquarters of the Order of Whispers. There’s a portal to it in Bloodtide Coast, south of the Lion’s Arch entrance (Deadend Waypoint). You could also go through Fort Trinity where the three portals to the order headquarters are.

I usually have mixed sets on my characters, but they’re often simple mixes with one or two different pieces.

Mesmer:

  • Tier 2 Sylvari cultural
  • Twilight Arbor skirt

Elementalist

  • Karma chest, shoulders & gloves (occasionally swap out for a basic Magician coat.
  • Honor of the Waves leggings
  • Acolyte shoes (still looking for a good replacement..)

Necro:

  • Priory chest & legs
  • Tier 3 Asura headpiece (same idea as Gomoratoad basically)
  • Crafted shoulders, looking to replace them with either T3 or Inquest
