For all of those complaining about queues and GvG in WvW, ya’ll are going to start screeching when the WvW achievements come into affect and your population in WvW triples overnight from pve completionists making it a long wait to get in and complete yours … Or play.
Then the fun part comes into play. If you don’t complete a meta achievement each period you won’t get ANY reward at all for that time. Have fun bros.

Once and for all
In the end you can’t play because your server is clusterkittened by living world events (this is coming into wvw soon, 100% guaranteed, it’s being developed right now) and you will neither be able to play wvw, because everyone is doing the pve in wvw nor will you get reward for the league, because you didn’t hit the meta achievement. You’ll be forced to play in off-hours and face long queues.
ANet will show you too what matters in wvw. They DON’T want anybody to play wvw, they want you to be on the spvp or pve.
I will laugh when Tequatl’s elder sister comes to the pvp lakes. A pve zone has about same cap as a wvw zone (per side), you know how many overflows a successful server’s home instance has, now imagine all those on queue with the broken system that they can’t fix, taxi anyone? Oh right, everyone is doing it.
And if Anet really wanted gvg in this game, not only would they have advertised it as such instead of pushing WvWvW ‘server’ battles in their advertising, but they would ALSO have made a separate gvg arena. Go figure….
ANet ran 20v20 internally, but it took too much ressources from their servers with the coding they have in place, so they decided against it. Go figure. Their coding is too bad, not that they don’t want it, they simply can’t make it work, so they made up the thing with “wvw shouldn’t have gvg”.
GvG is for newbies and beginners that found out game mechanisms and coordination what they suppose that they are the only to achieve this knowledge and game play but they are just wrong and still believe being the only skilled players : that s just so funny and sad at the same time…
I wouldn’t go that far with it. Some of them are very good at what they do, and know how to apply that skill to wvw and are capable of cooperating/coordinating with others. I’ve seen some gvg guilds (from my server and from others) be valuable assets to their servers (while not gvg’ing or only hunting for ‘good fights’). But I’ve seen just as many, if not more (seems to be many more to me) that aren’t any more helpful than the average pug group when caught outside of their element (gvg). Being good at open field fighting is a valuable skill to have, but you need more than that to be successful in wvw.
I’ve even seen some cases where their desire for a ‘good open field fight’ has lead them right into being slaughtered by smaller force, because they got out-played and out-maneuvered. Stack up, buff, and charge in doesn’t work so well against an enemy that can use terrain and siege to their advantage. One such incident I was part of was actually lead by a commander from a gvg guild. Some of their members were there, but it was mostly a pug group. We ended up wiping a combined force of two enemy guild groups (I know at least one was a gvg guild) that attempted a 2-front attack on us.
You talk about bad gvg guilds and show that you americans have simply no clue when it comes to gvg. It’s far beyond, huddle, buff, charge. Any decent gvg guild will annihilate you if you face them on equal or even lesser numbers. But this is more of a: the standard is lower across the pond from EU. TW/Choochoo etc, I lol’d.
But you being from Yak’s Bend says it all. YB hasn’t even seen t1/2, hardly t3. Competition is at the top not the bottom, especially with the NA attitude everyone who wants to compete is on the first 4 or 5 servers.

Problem with conditions is that you can spike with them which is controversal to all conditions in any game before. Having builds that can spike with conditions while stuff like dire-stats (cond dmg/vit/tough) and +40% cond duration food exists is just wrong. That’s like a power/prec/crit dmg/tough/vit set of stats (on one item).
They either have to bring them in line with ttk or remove certain items from wvw (since they now also seperate wvw/pve content).

Hmm, that might have come across wrong. I have no problem with thieves, I only see the point that people make when they say perma stealth is annoying in wvw.
I’m playing mesmer for solo roaming atm, but never sticking to any class and prolly made the mistake of bringing a spvp build to wvw instead of using stealth myself too (e.g. Prismatic Understanding, kinda the stealth regen of thieves just for mesmer).
And the good thieves, as you said, are rare, even more annoying if they run perma stealth builds basically nullyfying what could be a good fight.
Saying that thief teleport is equal to other classes teleport is just wrong. Shadow step, Infiltrator’s strike, Infiltrator’s arrow is much more then e.g. the mesmer could pursuit at any given time (blink, forward phase retreat).
Often you can’t pick where fights take place, then you gotta take what you got and those grey mobs are everywhere.

A skilled thief can reset a fight to 100% hp at any point she/he wishes if running builds focused around that (regen on stealth, regen in stealth, 4+ skills to go invis and stack further invis from there). It’s not as much damage in a single burst as other builds but it will surely wear you down, while the thief has a free ~1.5-2k heal every time the revealed buff is gone while still sporting 2.8k armor and 15+k hp. Again, only in wvw.
You do know you can counter all stealths other than blinding powder… which has a decent cooldown… right? It is somewhat class dependent on how many you can counter though. What stealth skill are you having problems with specifically and what class do you use? If it’s one of the ones that I play I can help you. If it’s not one that I play you can ask in your class forums and I’m SURE they can help you out.
Btw I’ve never been worn down by a stealth spamming thief. What normally happens is they just run away as they aren’t making any real progress and they are just putting themselves in danger. Heck, I often allow them to get me to around 50% hp just to see if they’ll over-commit lol.
As if you can counter CnD on mobs, grey mobs. Teleporting away to do such etc…

Unfortunately, thieves are pretty weak at every part of the game right now except for killing noobs. It’s sad actually.
They get around fast (most important in spvp for free cap) and they deal sick damage when free casting (important in pve). What should anet change if all they care about is looking fine from thief perspective.
The “problem” with thieves is only really in wvw roaming encounters (attempts of 1v1 ganking) and them running full stealth build (regen, init, speed, cond remove etc).
I can see why this is kind of frustrating for the op, you can’t kill them unless they stay to fight and don’t tactically retreat. A good thief that doesn’t want to die won’t die in that situation.
Thief is the only class that can reset a fight completely at any moment they wish (minus time of revealed buff), but that’s non-factor in spvp, so no change will happen.

You realise that most of your solutions are kinda picked from the whole kitten nal a class has, noone will have all of them at once, unless you want to be free kill to other classes. Also some require to stun break/no-ct ability first before you can use them to counter the thief burst. While a stealth/regen-build’s only limitation is the revealed buff.
If thief hits you for 16 k, then you should wear something else than just your underpants^^
steal, c’n’d, backstab + zerker gear is actually that kind of damage to builds with low armor, but could be worse, the thief could use a sword and have a brain. Larcenous strike (or crippling strike) is not that much less dmg, but the thief will also daze on top.

Ye, Gandara (2x guild fg+1-2 additions) rather run away from unorganised, partly upscaled AR after they tried to push their warcamp (~10v10). I think people aren’t that much different.

From what I have heard, Anet devs who regularly play WvW, do so exclusively on Blackgate or one of the other two T1 servers. (Repeated threads from T1 servers mentioning Anet devs playing there) I don’t think devs even know what it is like to play on anything less than a T1 server.
Bloodlust is fun when you outnumber the other 90% of worlds. Hey look at our five man, we can wipe your T12 puny 20 man groups with impunity.
I still can’t get over Mr. Carter’s “WvW is not meant to be fair” remark.
If that’s the case, why not make spvp teams world based?
I find it hard to dissagree with this, the Devs should be forced to spend one month on any one of the lowest 3 servers while the matchups are still rediculous, they would get a much better understanding of how bad some of these ideas are when confronted with a server they have zero chance of defeating let alone competeing with.

Yes. There is no solution to it. It happens because not everyone’s internet connection is similar. So, the fluctuations causes lag.
Thus, is the scenario when lots players congregate together in one spot.
It happens because the game is crappy coded and the hardware is underwhelming or why you think you don’t lag even with tethering gw2 at EDGE speed via mobile in pve/non zone blob pvp?!
This will be the third week that I won’t be even vaguely interested in WvW, another week of facing blob/zerg servers, little point in trying to roam in a small group, just get smashed by 30-40 “skilled” PvP’ers…..

AR had all group size from 5-25ish roaming on vizunah bl. Too bad we had to face GoW + pu blob from Piken and first random Viz zerg, then VSS leading all of zone and in the end WL lead pu blob.

Well, look at the bright side – more guilds may join WvW now that the everyone will know how to break the WvW queues, pushing solo queueing pugs out.
I find it amazing that we can actually break something that’s already broken. Its not even kicking a dead horse anymore, its a dead horse kicking itself!

WvW is broken. ANet dn’t want to hear the complaints of the community, specially the suggestions to improve it.
Almost all the WvW communities that came into here to play WvW are gone. Some have given up on WvW (and on PvP at all). Most of the actual WvW guilds are a gathering of players from those communities that still wants to WvW for the same old objectives.
Maybe in sep.17th we can rejoice as we can win some golden dolyaks if we get 1st place … /sarcasm/cheers
They can’t hotfix it. They can’t even fix it. They tried on alpha when they first got reports of that bug, 0 success so far, but maybe now that they have to care, they will try harder.

While your last comment might have been true the first 1-2 months of the game it quickly changed and for a 10 months the wvw “meta” is so far that you can only go up in rankings if you have either a) a massive massive night force or b) a decent night force and a massive massive day (not necessarily prime time!) force.
It was called a bug long long ago by the devs iirc (can’t be bothered to dig through all of the old dev’s posts).
I saw at least three dev posts correcting that dev post to point out the limitations imposed by weapon swap and that it was not a bug, just how it currently works.
Ye, because they didn’t know and still don’t know how to fix it. So their choice was to call it feature rather then bug. Other game modes don’t allow change of weapon set before a round is over, so it’s only a problem in wvw (or pve where noone cares, because mobs are weak sauce anyways).

I roam solo too sometimes and guess what from AR point of view:
- BB never runs alone, if they do and die they come back with 4-10 and chase you across the whole map.
- On Drakkar 90% are thieves, 100% are free kills. Guess stereotype of why low servers are low is true.

Most of you guys make a mistake. You argue about heal signet based on other classes’ skills. This doesn’t work, this never worked in any game.
You simply can’t compare skill A1 with skill A2 if skills B1-Z1 and B2-Z2 aren’t equal. One class spams protection, the other spams blind etc. all increase the worth of hp, you can’t base an argument about their healing skill on that.
Just looking at the matchup history on MoS it seems that there’s more often kittenty matchups between servers that are far apart in ranking on EU then on NA side.
Is the hidden roll that makes up for mixing server matches different between NA and EU? If so, why?
hope dont met river again if u kill 50+of them with 20+they will come back with 60 if u kill them again they will come back with 100 and follow u around the whole map,this server deserve to play much higher tier against elona or baruch or seafarer or vizuna not against a server like gandara where almost all are moving with 15/20 ppl,just put all the german national server against each other all of them like play this way they can enjoy more the game.

That’s correct. Most of the zoom hacks is abuse of game mechanic and stretching the window (if that still works).

He’s correct though (IIRC we inc-ed that fight as AFK/BanG was almost dead and there was no clear guild vs guild going on). It was a skirmish just like the ones WAR had with Gandara before our GvG yesterday. Triple impact by 2 guilds + pu commander, easily 50-60 together, vs our 22-24 at that moment. Noone cares to write or whine about it, because it just happens and they were good fights on top. Loving it.
Interesting analysis of strategies in GW2, sadly it matters zero. The side with most players over a week wins, no matter how much microstrategy you apply.
If you cap a tower/camp/whatever, it should only be to make enemy movement predictable and allowing your side the easy farm.
ANet already said that it’s a problem they can’t solve 100% unless they rewrite the code and get better servers. So for months they are doing bandaid fixes.
Wvw is losing players every day and isn’t an aspect of the game ANet is focussing on. People in charge won’t allow extra cash for more devs, reallocate ressources or hardware to support wvw while their main goal (making tpvp an e-sport) is in far far away worlds.
If you can’t or don’t want to deal with the lag either move to lower tiers with population so low that the servers won’t crumble (in EU that would be Vabbi) or simply quit.
This problem is totally ANet’s fault and it was pointed out to them like 7-8 months before game went live. Everyone told them about the very high interest and demand in RvR/WvW, but they didn’t listen.
I guess ANet is having problems transferring the achievements over from spvp to pve (db is now spvp to avoid abuse of food).
It is the staff you get, but at low details. You need at least medium settings for the Jade weps to be good looking. Worst is the shield in that regard.
TUP are always welcome to post in Piken’s thread. They are one of the best guilds out there and some of us like to keep abreast of their endeavours(they being former Piken and nice/friendly).

I remember alot of fights with absurd skill lag and without any siege.
When ANet bugged the siege deployment there was significantally less lag while there were still attacks on prime objectives (like bl garnis) going on. Also siege counts towards map cap (with no siege ingame more ppl could play on a border)(I’m not saying that the non sieging side can get more players in, just that if there was no siege player cap could be X+Y instead of just X+siege), now that the siege is 50 instead of players’ 5 cap, it’s quiet obvious what is a major cause for the lag problem.
Really enjoyed this matchup, thank you. And I’m glad that we could compete rather well against 2 stronger servers with higher population.

AM lacks players at prime and night. You got the highest population from ~8-16 in this matchup (especially this week with last days of holidays and overall kittenty weather in Germany). AR is only really strong during prime and a few hours in offtime when there’s organisation going on. BB comes in after dinner siesta until 8 in the morning.
Nonetheless I had excellent fights this week, blobb or not, it was fun.

If you get killed using medium cd skills that are meant to be of protective nature (e.g. feedback, wall of reflection) there’s something wrong.
Basically retaliation forces you to drop a defensive cd where it is less effective, simply bad design.
It’s the “eve of game end”-blobbing.
More and more guilds can’t field 20-30 members on their primetime anymore, that’s why they run with others to get a decent sized (in their view) raid together, resulting in something that is perceived as a “bigger blobb then mine” by others. Add a commander tag on top of that (you want more people, don’t you?) and you get a nice addition of PU also.
Also guilds eager to keep their name “clean” for the next game before they quit GW2, making all that count is not-wiping (for what you obviously need numbers in GW2) and winning.
