You should try Zelyhn’s build and elem guide. This guy asura rocks in Arah.
Shameless French solidarity by the way :p
I confirm that the Scepter of Orr is spoken of in the thirg Guild Wars 2 novel. We learn a lot about Zhaïtan’s rising and the lore of Orr from this book.
Please hit me with any kind of feedback
I’ll hit you with some love for this calculator
I agree with Jerem on this matter : dungeon starter should be the only one to be able to call for a kick.
I’d add that the instance owner should protected from kicks so as not to destroy the instance by mistake. And he should have a prompting message when he tries to quit the group/dc.
I purposely used the word elitist because that’s how they are seen. If you read what I wrote with minimum attention, you’ll see that I personally refer to them as “good players”.
And I really like Wethospu, else I wouldn’t be even trying to improve the Fractal video tribute by contacting him ingame and learning about his experience in HL fractals…
I believe you are Dub.
I definitely recall that Arah P2 with your level 22 engi (back in the days). You drew aggro from mobs that were 500 feet away o_O
Guess how I mustered up the faith to talk to you all ingame >.>
If there were better rewards I’d probably kill all the mobs.
For the time being when I finish an Arah path with friends, we re-run through it to kill all the champions we’ve left behind, for greater loot. Namely giants, spiders, etc…
My first P2 was with a gentle girl and her minions. We killed everything (to the last deadeye and turret, yeah). It took 3 hours.
Last time I did P2 was with deSade, spoj, Adam and a friend. It took 20~25 mins I believe (some Lupi fail due to latency).
The difference in reward was like one gold weapon I found on a trash mob in the initial run. Rushing gives better loot/time spent. It also allows people to find runs easier due to less time spent in the actual path.
Finally, rushing helped me in learning mob behaviour and attacks. I can now run without even thinking through them, whatever Arah path it may be (sure warrior is OP for this, necro is less). And when we actually have to fight trash mobs, I have a better understanding of their attacks and at which range we can expect them, etc…
Classic EU or NA question incoming…
I have all the different videos that were submitted, and I can assure everyone that since this is a tribute compilation, I’ll be using every video to its fullest
I have nothing from Heimdall though.
EU here : I also kinda have to do it for achievements purposes… If you don’t mind
^ This ! My server doesn’t have enough people doing worldbosses/temples. It fails too often.
I don’t think that the people posting here are exploiters. I mean people from rT have been kind enough to accept me in some of their runs. I’ve seen how they play and it’s legit.
Buying gold from third party websites is clearly banned by Anet. Plus, it’s buying ingame currency with real world currency. It isn’t the same as exchanging ingame money for an ingame service.
Your comparison is simply bad.
An i’ll add another thing, the theory is that if there are potential buyers, there is an offer. Thus the fact that there are buyers for “chinese” gold, implis that there is an offer. It doesn’t justify buying from them, it justifies their existence
(edited by Enaretos.8079)
A play-how-you-want team is composed of players using play-how-you-want builds…
My second name being Captain Obvious…
In the end, what should be said in regards to all of this is :
People are farming Queensdale of Frostgorge and making money. Some people don’t like to do this, and some of them happen to be able to solo/duo dungeons
Thus if they need money they can solo/duo and sell a legit run. The blame, if there must be blame should be on those who buy, because the offer meets the demand (if nobody was okay with buying, nobody would sell).
On the other hand, there are people who kick others to sell or glitch through dungeons. This is lame and mustn’t be supported.
And that’s it. Nothing else to be said. Now if you don’t like people selling, nothing can be done, because while there are buyers, there will be sellers. and if someday people stop buying at current market prices, sellers will probably just sell at a price equivalent to path reward so it becomes a win-win situation…
You can draw a parallel between this and real life market situations : I make money but I’m not able to make a straw hat, so I buy one from someone who is actually able to make it…
Shameless bump, as always !
I’ve reached the point where I need to have the names of those who submitted videos/had reached a really high level and were featured in said videos.
Sanderinoa took the time to contact me ingame and express his thoughts on what had been the real difficulty and gave me a personnal comment as well. If everyone could do it I’d be like super pleased and could take the tribute a step further.
And please, don’t let this thread die
Man there are over 9000 topics related to kicking. I’ve never been kicked in a year of pugging, but reading all these posts makes me think about the matter.
Just endure it, find a PvE guild or build your friendlist and this’ll never happen again
Edit : beaten by Jerem, meh ;_;
Erm, I’ve estimated that there are at least 50 hours of work ahead of me…
And there are other songs that could make it into the background, I’m still working on this ! For now it is a mix of classical music, some slow drums with winds, electro music and some country, plus “la surprise du chef” !
In the end, the goal is to make it EPIC, but at the same time to bring out the nostalgia…
Hopefully, I suffer from insomnia ;_;
(Bump)
So I finished making a musical background.
Now I’d love it if all of you who posted these awesome videos could, like, tell me what you felt was the most important thing that came to your mind while you beat the hardest content ever ?
And if you want a personnal message to appear on the video, it’d be cool. Like something you want to convey to all those who admire you, or to those who’ll never know of this content (of which I am, sadly).
Cheers !
Well our best DPS & evasion is max range. If I want a melee toon 100% of the time I would have a warrior.
I actually made a ranger because I found this character epic :
I couldn’t think of a ranger staying at range, so I’m happy the meta build goes S/W.
My suggestion would be for you to your personal story and the dungeon’s story modes in level order.
Fact is, from personal story level 30 to 80 you do not meet any Destiny’s Edge members, but every dungeon story has something to do with them.
If you want to have the best possible experience destiny-wise, I’d say read the second GW2 novel, then create a new character of the race you prefer and do the quest/story modes in order. You’ll understand a lot about GW2’s story by the way, and some parts of the Living Story thus far
I apologize on behalf of all the french out there…
English is poorly taught in our country so most of the french PuGs you’ll get will just remain silent so as not to be seen as imbeciles :’(
Why so much hate for necros :‘( ? I know they don’t bring much, but if you’re just aiming for a good run and not a record breaking speedrun, it works just fine, no ?
I mean if you play a power necro with spoj’s dungeon build, everything is good and well, right?
I’m bumping this thread For Great Justice !
Finally downloaded all the videos I could get in 720p, Youtube won’t allow me to have 1080p… Got Brazil and Duwah’s RIP fractal vids btw.
Is there a way to get all the vids in 1080p ?
Some people are far from mean !
I mean yesterday I talked for like 6 hours with deSade, we had fun, laughed, etc
We even talked about cooking.
If you have a bad dungeon group, just talk with someone nice to have a good time !
I think we’d need the originals, so as not to mess up the video quality by downloading from YT.
It is an excellent initiative IMO, I just hope someone has good video editing skills out there
Maybe something like a video merge by changing players when scenes overlap would be doable ? Or you can state exactly what you were thinking of !
Meh, I also want to run with you good dungeon runners. Do I really have to post something against selfish builds in order to do so ?
Hello hazahampo !
I’d probably say P3, because the encounters are more forgiving than in the others. You’ll want some reflects and maybe a thief to stealth you so as to rush the most annoying parts though.
Just to make sure, being hit by the Inquest tamers doesn’t count as a fail right ? And if I get burned but not hit by the abomination in berserker phase, is it still legit ?
Also, by using trinkets + utilities, killing it goes fairly fast, got him to 60% in about 2 min of playing safe. Mostly failed due to deaggroing (in order to avoid inquests) then getting hit for 10K by the tamers while pursuing it.
Would you think killing it in the room would be safer or quicker than getting him near the helicopter ?
Maybe it could be done with bowls of fire Salsa to rally on tamers if need be ?
Edit : corrected the misstyping.
(edited by Enaretos.8079)
for me, there’s a HUGE difference between a really good player and an elitist.
don’t mix ’em up.and what OP describes, are simply good players.
This is why I used quotation marks for the word “elitists”. They are being referred to as this. I don’t even know who started the trend :/ To me they are caring community contributors.
So, a little intervention on my part
My post wasn’t made to be cynical, it was only made so as to show everyone in the dungeon subforums that the people who are generally the victims of all the flaming are the ones who hold us dear in their hearts. They helped us so much that we need to at least say some thanks as some are thinking about leaving.
And as such I’ll add a note about other people I’d like to thank. So thanks to all the team from the Ascension Project, Sanderinoa, Zelyhn, TheKillerAngel and also to the contestants who showed true skill and gave us something to watch and learn from !
Guys I’m so happy to have received some feedback, I was afraid all of you had definitely lost all faith in the forums and went separate ways.
Even if I’m the only one who made a topic to thank you all for your work, there are so many people in the same situation !
Oh and spoj, that time when I asked you about necros in FoTM was shortly after I did my first spoj ever
It felt awesome :p
I hope that the other great players will read this topic and find a little of the fulfillment they should have gotten as community contributors.
P.S : My only regret is that now that you’ll (probably) be gone for a while, I won’t have awesome guilds to look forward to entering while doing hardcore content :/
And for Dub, frenchies rock and our language isn’t that hard, we do not have declension like in german, just so many grammatical exceptions that need their own rules…
I hesitated a lot before posting this because it may not be the right place for it, nor will it be well received I think…
Please, pardon my poor English skills in advance.
First of all, I would like it if this post wasn’t deleted nor flooded, and above all not lost in the swarm of all the topics on this subforum.
I’m here to say something which I wanted to say for the longest time. The main thing that is to be noted is a point that happens to be true both about real life and videogames. In France we have a saying : “Il faut de tout pour faire un monde”. That means that we can’t make a world go round with only one type of people. Which also means that there has to be both casuals and elitists.
Now that this is said, do not flame me for taking the side of the elitists, which I’m obviously going to do.
I first want to talk about my experience in Guild Wars 2 and how it was made better thanks to the guys in the dungeon subforum. I first started with a Necro and leveled from 30 to 80 in the early times of the game only through dungeons. I was terribad and as such my experience was horrible. But I got to level 80, and started trying other content than the PvE. And then I leveled a Ranger to the level 80, so as to enjoy some variety in PvP and WvW I couldn’t have only with my Necro.
But it was only then that I discovered that what I love is the PvE content. And I found it hard, after grinding for my 3rd and 4th characters. Hopefully, while I was searching for info in order to get better and do less kitten, I stumbled upon the Guild Wars 2 Forums. They were the realm of great people who naturally became my GW2 role models. People like Brazil who gave me a reason to get my ranger back into PvE content, people like spoj who got me to renew my faith in power necros, guys like Dub, who gave me good laughs with his funny topics and reactions while I felt bored with my studies. I admire guys like Wethospu who showed that it was possible to do a legit Arah solo, while I couldn’t even finish a normal 5 people run in under three hours. People who have retired from GW2 like Strife are still helping today with their awesome guides. And there are many others, some of them even put up with me so as to allow me to get better. Amicable Pugs was the one who carefully guided me through my still unsuccessful Lupi solo attempts.
So this is my dungeon story, we have all had ours, and some yours were clearly better tales than others’. I just want to say that without those who you call the “elitist jerks”, but who I’ll call the “caring teachers”, I wouldn’t have had that much pleasure in GW2. They all responded gently ingame, which shows that their dedication is not that of trolls but more that of optimists. One just needs to see how they managed to stay calm and keep some faith in the forums.
And now that I’ve expressed my point on the “elitists”, who are to me the people that made the game as fun as it is now, I’ll go on to the other point. We need every kind of people to make this game a good place. Without the elitists, we’d still be stuck in PVT gear trying to facetank attacks instead of knowing how to properly manage encounters. But they can be harsh to people who remain stubborn, because even if they demonstrate their arguments with videos of them epicly killing difficult bosses, opinions don’t change, and the tiniest troll they make gets them banned.
Here comes the last point : GW2 is a great game and I even found the time to play it for nearly 1.5K hours while I was undertaking the most difficult preparatory classes France has to offer. What happened today thus saddened me to the highest point. Each time the majority of the player base (meaning the “casuals”, me included, probably), asked for something, they got it. Now that the hardcore players actually have something to defend game wise (read “Fractal levels debate”), they aren’t heard like they should be. It is them who have invested the most time in the game. We, the majority, played it and enjoyed it. They took it to a higher level and enjoyed it as well. We ask for more entertainment, but I feel like it shouldn’t impede with theirs.
This is no rant, it is mostly a thank you post to the community of “elitists”, who made my days in GW2 way funnier. Even as you’re talking of nothing but leaving, I still hope you will hop by sometimes to say hi. I never got to know any of you, but your humor, your mindsets and your dedication moved me. I wish you all the best, be it in another content of GW2, or elsewhere
Tl;dr version : Thanks, you elitists, you were the best thing that came to the game IMO
Don’t you feel like you might just be wasting it ?
But it’s not like sentinels are useful in PvE as of now, sooooo…
I was thinking 5 axe dagger staff rampager mm lifesteal necros tbh. Or sentinels.
OMG, this looks like a total fusion of all the non optimized necro builds. Is this even possible ?
And sentinels aren’t cheap, right ?
May I propose some play how you want necro builds ?
Like how some necro want to facetank mobs using full vampiric builds
I’d go for something along those lines :
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fQUQNAodWjMaV6haea87JAZGAg98Buhecbu7C-jQyAoLBRqBI5AgABl9KiGb5sIas6FMdJRUtHoIa1A-e
There should be two conditionmancers in order to reach the condition cap and lose some of the group’s dps, right ? And some kind of a healer, no ?
I’m so excited, can’t wait for you guys to do this !
Keep up the great work and keep entertaining us !
Edit reasoning : corrected some grammatical mistakes and misstyping.
(edited by Enaretos.8079)
Zelyhn, I think I know what you’re going through. Just like you did, I started playing Guild Wars with a few friends, who also happen to be the guys I play First Person Shooters with. We play pretty much every game together, and it has been really kitten me when they decided to take some holidays from the game.
At first I stayed alone on the game but it doesn’t help, you end up getting bored like they were, it’s just that it takes longer. So I decided to try and do the same thing as them and stopped Guild Wars 2 for a month. The result is that when I went back on the game they decided to come as well and we’re now having fun together just like in the old times.
If you don’t want to step out for a while, the other solution to create a form of interest would probably be to teach others. I mean, like taking them through difficult dungeons and explaining every nown mechanic or spending time speaking about builds is a good way to pass time.
I hope you get better, you’re one of the only known French people out there ! And your interventions on the forums were always very funny
most importantly is the choice for apothecary instead of Cleric, since i think it synergizes with the main hand weapons better even more through the usage of condition sigils (Doom and Geomancy, to complement each of the weapons) and even the off-hands can be switched to better synergie condition ones.
Well, I do prefer using a sword MH, so a good old cleric set was the way to go for me… If you want to do dps, go for it, but that build was intended only as a dedicated healer, so now it’s up to you to share the luv !
Just my two cents, anyway my thanks to Enaretos for the inspiration and for making me utterly bankrupt (don’t have much playtime to farm stuff unfortunately).
Meh, cleric’s are almost free :/ Just come farm arah with me and use the money you’ll get there
Like everyday I ran arah with noobs from my server in order to fill the party, all because I don’t have a guild I can play with.
Cleric weapons cost less than 2 gold each, not that big an investment if you’re truly going to play with this build. We did some fun testing with friends : they stood without dodging in front of HoTW’s Aldus (P1 second boss), and I managed to keep them alive for the duration of the fight (hopefully it didn’t last for too long as they were in full zerkers).
As for your question, the 4th and 6th bonuses of the runes of water are more interesting than those of the runes of Dwayna (regen is already permanent without them …). The aoe must be something like 300~450, but since the meta goes towards melee, it isn’t a problem and you almost always get everyone in it. Condition removal goes well with HS’ s effect and is kinda good for rushes where you end up getting hit (Arah P1’s oozes come to mind).
Regen scales off of the one who has the boon regardless of the boons source.
As I’ve taken everything previous people saif into account, I would like to know where you read this. Empiric experience goes towards me being correct as I’ve put a regen of 372hp/sec on a zerk guardian…
As two people have said, the drake pet is an interesting alternative to the fern hound, even if the blast finisher is difficult to time with healing spring in order to get the combo done. I think it procs on pet switching if CD is right, but I wouldn’t be sure of it… Could someone confirm this ?
The regen is permanent as stated in the build : with a full 30 seconds skill rotation I can get up to 1 minute of regen on all party members I think, but it might even be more. I need to test it further to see if there is a cap on boon duration
Thanks a lot to jubskie for putting it in the compilation thread, this will prevent this thread from dying in the darkest part of the huge forums.
I may go on a make some other guides, as I’ve played a nice tanking ranger back in the days
3/ Utilities
As one could expect, healing skill is healing spring. It gives some nice extra regen (even if all the allies aren’t in it, they should have enough regen to continue roaming till the next shout), removes conditions and heals for 906 in a 300 radius thanks to the superior runes of water.
Next are two selfish skills, as I take signet of stone and signet of the wild for the extra toughness and self/pet regeneration.
Last but not least is the shout I found the best : “Guard”. While the skill effect totally sucks, the boons it gives when traited are awesome : every 12 seconds you get and give 17 seconds of luv regen and 14 seconds of swiftness. Perma regen + swiftness is there.
Elite is spirit of nature, because it gives 504 health per second in a cute area, and acts like the warbanner for quick reviving purposes.
4/ Pets.
In a ranger build, the pets are as important as the skills or equipment. I thus took :
- The Fern Hound, because it looks cute procs a burst heal of 2800 on F2 and gives almost 20 seconds of regeneration.
- The Blue Moa because Ninja Moa rocks it gives 5 seconds of protection on F2 and gives a burst heal *cough*randomly*cough* in battle, for about 3600 health.
/nuff said
5/ Skill rotation.
Erm… It should be something like “Guard” whenever it’s on cooldown and as soon as you drop healing spring, you go axe 5, then warhorn 5 (heals for 1209 ). Swap weapons as often as possible in order to give more health to the other meleeing group members. For the rest, it’s up to your liking. I prefer staying with sword mainhand as I’m more used to the mechanics, and because the leap in a water field heals me.
I shall now put my flameshield on and wait for the rest of the forums to comment on this build.
P.S : As I’ve already said, I mainly play zerk builds, this one was made because of a guild requirement.
P.P.S : Best ranger build awards must go to Brazil for his dps ranger build
P.P.P.S : Please, pardon my poor english skills :/
Hi everyone from the ranger forums ! today, I shall present you a build of a different kind
Here come the build and all the numbers, in the form of a nice build with the latest traits :
http://gw2buildcraft.com/calculator/ranger/?6.3|7.1k.hz.g.1k.h1p.0.0.0|c.1k.hz.7.1k.h1p.0.0.0|1k.71h.1k.71h.1k.71h.1k.71h.1k.71h.1k.71h|1k.68.1k.68.1k.68.1k.68.1k.68.1a.68|0.0.a2.u13c.u3ac|4e.0|4i.4k.4r.4p.56|e
I assumed that one would use a long bow with a superior sigil of life first in order to get the healing power up to nearly 1800.
Before I start explaining my choices and whatnot, I shall first speak about why I decided to create a support build in a zerk meta, and above all, why I spent money in all this as it is mostly pointless and only aims at some kind of self-congratulation. In my guild, which shall not be named, everyone has to make every kind of build for their characters. As such, I have tanking builds, support builds and dps builds (which still represent the majority of the builds I use).
I decided that my ranger should become a healer after seeing the recent changes in our traits, and because I had no healing character before. I strongly believe that everyone should be dungeonning in zerk equipment and trinkets, but after trying this build out and seeing how much luv it could give, I just had to share it.
Here is a table of contents, for you to understand the build in an easier way:
1/ Equipment
2/ Traits
3/ Utilities
4/ Pets
5/ Skill rotation
1/ Equipment
This shall not be long: I opted for a full cleric set (Owww Gad, that’s bad for my dps ;_;). The reason behind it was the one that led the choices of all the healer wannabes in GW2 : heal for “a lot”, and remain standing, cuz a downed/dead healer heals for nothing (while this is not true with this build as we’ll see later). Power is kitten low so one should not expect to support with high dmg.
As I said before, use a LB and “mark” a lot of mobs with the 5th skill in the beginning of dungeons (trash mobs killing, which everyone does to get their own stacks up), so as to get the +250 boost to Healing Power, which will be useful for greater heal later on.
After this kitten is done, take your true weapon set, consisting of axe/warhorn + sword/axe. The reason for this is to get as much aoe heal proc as possible, through sigils of renewal on both offhand weps (it recharges in the time needed to recharge the weapon swap anyways). Mainhand weps can pretty much use any sigil so I went for to sigils of restoration, for a little self(ish) heal on mob death. That being said, you see that the weapons have a low range : this build is meant to be used at melee, there is no standing at 1500 range like a BearBow ranger. This way, you can get everyone in your aoes when you proc the sigil of renewal (396 heal, radius is 300).
For the armor, superior runes of Dwayna just didn’t cut it, so I went for runes of water. To be more precise, runes of Dwayna increased regen duration, while by using runes of water, the regen duration was enough, and I get one more burst heal when I use my own healing skill. I’ve also got a self condition removal, which helps from time to time.
2/ Traits.
I went for quite the understandable traits: I maxed healing power and boon duration. This provides greater regeneration and burst heal values, while increasing regeneration duration.
The selfish part lies within the 10 points spent in wilderness survival, in order to get endurance regeneration. But at the same time I took healer’s celerity, because a supportive role isn’t only about healing and buffing: you have to get your allies up (the toughness helps for this part).
With the 30 points in Beast Mastery, I have 20% faster shout recharge, pets that grant vigor when summoned (every 16 secs and in 600 radius) and pets that have passive regeneration.
With the 30 points in Nature Magic, I have a healing spring on death. While I do not plan on dying, especially with this build, kitten happens and this trait is there to make up for it. I have 33% more regeneration duration, combined with my 45% boon duration, and this leads to perma-regen on everyone because of shouts that grant regeneration + swiftness. This is the beginning of the luv in this build, and it continues in the next part.
