Samxperiment day two :
- I put up an LFG saying : “P1 OMGZERKVERYPRO 100K+ AP”
- People started joining after 5 minutes.
- One thief with 10K Ap was good, zerker everything and able to stack stealth.
- The guardian was bad, ran a snowflake build and didn’ use reflects. Apparently his build is better than meta and “warr can fight and skip in same gear but I need to change mine”.
- Other warr was ok and fun, goofed around a bit.
- Pro friend saved me from becoming crazy.

Only 2 bubbles at Lupi, caused by the guard.

Ap requirement proved to be better than" zerk exp melee" :/ I find this rather strange…

Made an ele, never played it until level 80. Solo’d AC on first or maybe second try just by playing as one would EXPECT.

In an action game you need to be ACTIVE. Whatever a tank you may want to be, a one-shot mechanic is what it is : it ONE-SHOTS.

So yes you need to dodge. And if in open PvE/WvW you payed attention to tells (mobs’ and even players’) you would see and dodge.

Kholer is nothing but a ranger with a thief’s utilities :/

The dungeons are hard without tactics. Really hard. They do eat up players who have experience only of other MMOs, who struggle to work it out one encounter at a time. You need different skills in dungeons compared to the open world.

So why do people say the dungeons are easy? It’s because they are using common knowledge tactics that are tried and tested over millions of runs and they do work. Lots of players know the tactics but don’t know why they work and can’t explain them to anyone else. The way to pick up common knowledge tactics is to see them in action and learn them as you go.

We did a guild dungeon yolo run with 4 metarangers and 1 condinecro then 3 metanecros, 1 condinecro and 1 metaranger. We had no clue what to use on the necros a they have close to no skills that are actually useful in dungeons. We facerolled yolo CoE, TA and fracs 11.

You don’t really need the tactics I’d say, just to be able to see what your group needs and that’s rather easy.

Example 1 :
- “Oh skritt, we got wiped due to all these condis”
- “Guys, let’s remove them” => searching through utilities for condi cleanse.

Example 2 :
- “Oh, by the foul stench of a Norn warrior’s boots, we got stun locked by these ennemies”
- “Guys, how about we take stability or CC the mobs ourselves ?” => search through utilities and traits.

If a player is using zerker and he is not comfortable with it he will die more often then if he was wearing non zerker. Hence he will be doing no dps because he was dead vs him wearing a gear set or using a spec he can play and will not die and be able to continue to dps.

Mmh. Let’s say a zerker ele + FGS 4 deals damage for the duration of the skill then goes down. I don’t think I need to do damage calculations to state that you would need a non damage dealing spec to do a proper skill rotation for a few minutes to get there…

Joined an Arah P1 run labelled like that yesterday (this morning for me).
They were in zerker gear, they were using the right weps and utilities (mostly warriors in Arah, go figure why :/)…

I skipped alone to the Ooze, they had to redo it three times and brought mobs. They died to them.

I skipped with one of them to the entities. Had to wait 15 minutes for everyone to get there. They died on the entities. Had to finish.

We got to Lupi. One wipe due to 4 bubbles (no endurance left for me). We lost a warr, I asked for a mesmer. LFG at this point stated : “P1, exp zerker, dps build, melee Lupi, need mesmer”. We got a fourth warr :/ They were slow on skipping so I solo’d Lupi with two people watching, without believing it was possible until I was done (I read that chat and it was fun).

I knew that skritt was going to happen at the astronom when I saw the guardian carrying a crystal. Took missile deflection. Stayed alive after they wiped, kiting the orbs to reflect 4 at a time.

It’s not only about gear, traits, weps and wanting to speed-run after having trained/watched videos. They still failed due to lack of understanding of game mechanics. The guardian used wor when it wasn’t useful or put it at wrong places. They always aggro’d mobs that were avoidable.

This is quite sad for me because I believe that all the PvE experience in the game trains you towards using the right skills and learning the tells, from all the champions, to hearts that make you use special skills, learning when to dodge, block or even reflect.

I’ll keep pugging with my <1K AP warr on NA and try to see how groups like this work. My research will focus on how people perceive other as being experienced. Wish me good luck.

I did the experiment on my best friend and one friend we have in common. The common friend switched to zerker with scholar runes and meta builds from his PTV home-made build guard. His reaction was, and I quote : “OMG, the mobs go down so fast, it’s way better”. He now solos some paths daily

Best friend said lol nope, loving his tank warrior too much. He got his account hacked and I made use of this occasion to have him start fresh. He sadly plays in zealots, because he wants the heals to be strong :s Still better than PTV + clerics… And I won’t try pushing him to zerker. My only requirement is that if he wants me to play with him he must play the meta build (traits and utilities wise). That way he buffs me at least xD

And we did memorize the order of the first 9 burrows(we didn’t get past 9), they still swarmed 4 enemies each before we could kill them, and spawned too quickly, with each one having a remarkable killing power. Memorizing their order didn’t help. We also had frostbow and fire greatsword, neither made any difference(all four team members had control of them at some point.)

Just ask any dungeon mentor with an ele to solo that event for ya and you’ll see. By memorizing both the places and times at which burrows appear you can pre-shoot them and have no gravelings spawn. I myself do perfect solos for funsies

The number of selling posts in ac is annoying, sometimes they completely overwhelm the pugs. If ac wasn’t so easy, you know, I’d be all over that but it is super easy so I don’t get how there can be such high demand.

I bought arah paths before and yes I have 9000+ AP and just wanted the tokens. That was back when it was cheaper, there was one path that was sold “at cost” so it was 60 tokens plus a handful of silver for free. Haven’t seen one of those for awhile, or I’d still buy them.

I agree on your first point : I hate all these exploiters that sell for a ridiculous amount of gold just because there is no effort whatsoever spent doing the path. And the worst are those that teach you how to exploit for 5-10g. Such a joke. I wish I could report them but when I’m selling I can’t see their names.

I disagree on your second point though. Basically you said you like getting things for free : “I’ll only come if I can get silvers and tokens”. Which means you get payed to be rewarded. There is a problem here. Someone sells you tokens, they don’t give them :rollseyes:

My argument is that when making a decision between direct dmg and condition damage, there should be pros and cons to each. Direct dmg offers too much over condition damage to be considered for Dungeon content. Why should any player currently take condition damage over direct dmg in a dungeon?

Mmh when I play my zerker meta build and have to switch to a wep for utility purposes (example : LB on war), I lose a lot of damage because the direct damage is way inferior on these weapon skills, for they inflict conditions. Here is your con, happy ?

Why would you take condition damage over direct damage ? No reason atm, but if I’m not mistaken, rampager dps isn’t too far from a good ol’ zerker. Which means a slight buff to condi, and putting power as major stat and precision as minor one would make it better. Nerfing zerker achieves nothing. Asking for a might buff achives nothing.

Think for a minute. I’ve been talking about rampagers for a reason. All the other condition damage sets bear defensive stats. These shouldn" get near a full zerker build at all ! All condition builds are viabl btw, you can do your dungeon just fin, just don’t expect to be fast. Rampager could get the buffs I talked about but not the other sets.

Your ideas remind me of the super OP Scarlet’s Knights QQ thread : “but, why timed event, OMG so hardz, can’t killz” → you have to KILL, so dont expect to do it by playing a defensive set with non damaging traits. Or you’ll take a long time. But that’s ok, really ^^

This is just wrong. My post never said ‘need’. Are you saying you couldn’t complete a dungeon run on a war heavy team w/o vulnerability? Look at it at the other side of the spectrum. What would you do if you were trying to end a “play how you want” motto? Make one build type so good that ppl will be kicked from pugs if they dont have it? that kinda sounds like zerker to me. A system where a debuffer is desired, gives ppl the ability to make a viable contribution as a debuffer. That isnt to say that that the debuffer is required.

Think for a minute v2.0. Why are people asking for zerker builds so often when there are maybe less than 500 players labeled as elitists and residing in hardcore guilds ? Sheeps, sheeps everywhere. Say something and they’ll trust you :p Which means if such a role is created and becomes better to use for a given dungeon, they’ll see that it’s played and won’t try to understand why. They’ll ask for it in LFG as in : “PX, debuffer wanted”. Much diversity.

You know why zerker is wanted I guess, so it’s not about ending playing how you want. You may want to take 2 hours in AC and as such you can play in full clerics just fine. Or full dire since you like condi damage.

Structures are just one more thing that gives direct damage builds an advantage over condition based builds. There arent really any disadvantages of running direct dmg in PvE, there are several for conditions, structures are just one of them.

The only real ‘buff’ IMO that conditions need is to synergy / mechanics. There are too many things that you cant do with conditions that you can do with direct damage builds.

suggested nerfs:

• Might: base bonuses increased, but can no longer be stacked in intensity.
• Vulnerability: Make this substantially less accessible on direct damage builds so that a debuffer role will be desired.
• Reflects: Bosses should no longer take damage from reflected attacks OR damage from these attacks should be scaled back.

suggested buffs:

• some sort of implementation that allows condition specs not to override each other’s dps
• a way to deal decent structure damage / lowering hp of structures in dungeons.

So basically you’re complaining that condition damage and direct damage are different… SUCH WOW !

This is pretty much why I talked about rampagers : power and precision and condition damage. You can achieve more with that than with subpar rabids/dire/non-damage dealing conditank builds…

You want people to need specific builds ? A debuffer ? You’re asking for the “play how you want” motto to be erased… I’m amazed, because that would force people to sit for an hour waiting for a debuffer to be able to do a smooth run ? A debuffer who’d contribute to nothing apart from “debuffing” ? Stop copy-pasting mechanics from other games and understand how this one works please :/

As far as structures go, it’s fine IMO. You can solo all timed events requiring structures to be destroyed so I can’t possibly understand how a 5-man group would need them to have reduced health.

I often try to chat with my buyers to make sure they are assured I’m selling a legit path and won’t scam them. The first buyer gets a 20% discount if he wants to duo endboss with me, which is why I clear the mobs before the endboss.

When the path is done I remind them to add me in fl so they know the run can be trusted if they wanna buy again.

Actually no. I did some solo and duo bosses already. I did SE p3 destroyer solo, subject alpha solo, COF p1 duo (until the moment where we had to stand under the braziers) and many more. By who I got carried then?

Ofc I won’t solo AC spider in the corner without the full party because it’s the DPS that makes it possible… and that’s the whole problem. The FGS…
Anyway, I did it once with FGS and I decided to never use it again until they fix it. It’s just too stupid that some skills can be exploited this way. Same as reflects…

Plus the bosses/paths you are describing don’t appear to be too hard. I was thinking about seing you solo like the four mobs just before the priest of Grenth in Arah P4. Without reflects and blinds you’re gonna suffer a bit then come back on your statement.

If you only use 12345 randomly and complete content either you died a stupid death or you have been carried. As simple as that. Still I’m talking about a non fight-breaking situation. Maybe you run around for 5 minutes every two hits to regen, idk :/

In Pac-man you can exploit by using the ÜBEROPOMGPLZNERF buff to kill the ghosts. This is abusing game mechanics, but it’s not the AI’s fault : see, they’re trying to run away xD

Actually, as a legit seller, I’d say look at the LFG for a minute. With the new UI you can see LFGs come and go, it’s so smooth. I wait 5 minute to sell, but every 5 seconds a regular group gets filled. OMG I’m destroying the LFG tool and the community :‘( :’(

Plus on the selling side, people don’t only do it for tokens/whatevs. They want the exp yo o/

Crafting is expensive : 50g for 7 levels if you don’t know what you’re doing. And exploring/doing paths with nabs is sooooooooo long (I carry in Arah every day for teh lulz). Meanwhile in capitalist Tyria, an AC path sold between 2 and 3g gives you 70% of an exp bar regardless of your level. Amazing ain’kitten

The problem with dungeons in this game is that you can go 5 man full zerker, melt everything in few seconds. You don’t need any skill to do it (and yes you meta defenders will say that the skill is needed – it’s just a poor excuse. I’ve been playing dungeons enought to tell you that if you stack in the corner, all you have to do is to press 12345 randomly. Maybe you can do it 2 seconds faster if you, as you will say, chain your buffs, blinds etc, but whatever you will do, you will succeed.
It is really horrible, most of the “non-action oriented” games have more action in their dungeons than GW2. Even in these crappy korean grinders, you need more coordination to finish dungeons.

The other day I was pugging Arah on NA (new favourite activity) and it was advertised for exp 5K+ AP. I join with my 750 AP, explain that I’m exp, all is fine. The instance owner even removes the AP requirement

Then joins this ranger who didn’t seem to have a clue. We kick him. He comes back and says : “I pay you 6g to carry me”.

My heart died a bit there…

I was looking at a 1K Karma to 50-60 silvers conversion thanks to the wardrobe patch. Then again it’ll most likely be unusable in less than 1 month so :/

Colesy, at first I didn’t trust your screens. But then I pugged Arah in what was advertised as “zerk melee ping gear, etc…”. Killed Lupi solo… Even EU pugs are better :’(
