I doubt anyone has ever cleared whole Arah (even when excluding respawning enemies).

When I was still a noob, I did an Arah P2 with a girl and her guild who knew it “well”. This procasualOPclearerTeam actually made me kill everything. To the last deadeye, even to the last spider.

It was a 2 hour run. Which was quite good for casuals killing everything I guess…

I seriously doubt most path sellers are kicking their party and selling the instance. Otherwise there’d be a dozen topics here everyday about people getting kicked and the kickers listing the instance on the lfg.

Until 2 months ago I was trioing it daily with my two buddies who’ve left the game now. Took us a little more time than a full party, mostly because we were leveling our alts at the same time (still faster than PuGs), but we always sold legit runs (which to me means killing kholer).

You dont need 20 AR for lvl 20 i was doing it with 10 on my necromancer. Point dear is that if you dont have enought AR you need a mechanic to compensate for it here are 3 exemple

1. be a super healing machine that can self heal a full life bar when hit by agony (unrecommanded)
2. play a necro and use life force to temper and reduce the agony damage (yea lifeforce can do that for you)
3. dodge like a god and pray you dont get hit by agony or run a meditation guardian and overheal it, while having 10 agony resist at lvl 20 will prevent agony from behing lethal it still will hit you for the good half of your health bar. Most team wont care about how much agony damage you take long as you actualy dont fall constantly from it.

This is some clearly bad advice. One should always try to meet the requirements. Imagine if he doesn’t dodge the other agony attacks : he’ll always be at low health and will ultimately die from agony.

OP, I’d advise you to do what has been said : meet the requirements by grinding and doing fractals in your tier only. I did it with pugs and it worked quite well : I’m now at 35 AR and on pr 30.

So buying AC is stupid ?
I sold AC. It’s a quick way to level an alt : 70% of a level for 2g, that’s sweet. So there was demand, thus I sold.

What’s funnier is that i sold it with two friends, while we were leveling our alts. So you could see 3 lvl 40 characters selling AC. The dungeons is doable by lvl 35. It can be done well by lvl 35. Players at lvl 35 can kill any boss in it in a legit way and without dying, it takes just a bit more attention, because the fights draw out.

But by trio-ing it at lvl 40, it took us 15 mins more than a normal run. Which is long enough to do an Arah run. Thus some people can indeed want full lvl 80 in at least zerk exotics parties.

I need to sell more Arah to get money for my ascended stuff. And I need to run fractals for karma.

Naturally I’ll go for a new kind of fight, the kind that will be unforgiving for unprepared people, à la try and die.

Enemy race : crystallized Kralkatorrik minion.

Location : midboss in the destroyed lair of Glint.

Monster “type” : cross-species between a Charr and an Ettin, due to the crystallizing increasing its size enormously.

The fight :

> First phase : from 100% to 50% life left. The boss will attack with heavily charged skils, the kind of attacks an Ettin would use. Charging his attacks, each hitting violently the ground with heavy aoe damage (90% of a player’s HP). Naturally he’ll have something like 600 range for his club attack, meaning people must get behind him or dodge roll. He’ll also use the shockwave after hitting the ground with his foot, and do an aoe shockwave after a jump.

> Second phase : from 50% to 0% life left. After being hit through the first half of his life, he’ll have lost quite a bit of the protection his crystallized body offered him, but that also means he’ll have gotten lighter. He’ll thus start moving quite a bit, with rushing attacks like a risen abomination’s ones, but with a shorter wind up time. The anim before he charges will not be cast as slowly as the ones of the abom defending GL’s gates. There will be no blocking this attack : player must dodge or get out of the way.

> Third phase : from 100% (no armor) to 0% life left. After having hit the boss for quite a bit of time and having depleted his life bar, players will discover that it was only the crystallized armor they had been destroying. The monster will start acting like a Charr boss (CoF P3 endboss, I choose you !). His attacks will be really fast, with a lot of crowd control to force players to actively dodge. He’ll mostly attack like a warrior’s rampage’s form : quick rushing attacks followed by either a 2 sec stun or a heavy knockback. If he manages to stun a player, he’ll follow up with a barrage of clawing attacks, with each blow inflicting bleeding on the target. Players will also have to watch out for his aoe attack, we’re he’ll jump and hit the ground resulting in a wave of rocks.

Since the fight will happen in sands, there are also fun things that could happen, like quicksands forcing players to be mobile, storms blurring the screen like in the Snowblind fractal or even a cloaking in the storm technique for the boss, allowing him to teleport to a plyer for a quick backstab like attack.

This boss will be mostly melee, so melee is advised like always. I must work longer on this !

Last summer I started using the LFG website. There were runs being sold. You must have stopped playing for a year :p

And yeah I know about the means of making money, but I don’t approve of it, for logical reasons. The difference between you and me, is that while I won’t resort to using those, I won’t try to stop people from doing it, because they are free to do so, and I can adapt.

By the way, even if you stack against the spider in AC, you get hit, it’s about how fast you kill it. Same for the pillar in P3, you get hit. I’ve seen PuGs giving it a go and dying miserably because they lacked deeps.

Hmm… To me using the column in AC P3 isn’t exploiting. You still get hit by all the attacks, except the falling rocks. And if you stand in Grast’s bubble you don’t get hit either. It’s just meant to make meleeing easier, with less useless movement.

I discovered how to do dungeons on my own. Then I read the whole dungeon subforums. Then I watched the vids of the greatest guilds. Then I saw what I could do to be better at dungeons. And I put what I learned into practice, and keep on sharing the knowledge.

Oh and I partied with great players for free. Still doing it pretty much everyday. I feel so happy everytime I get a pm from them, because I know I’ll be able to learn new things or at least I’ll have a smooth run with some funny talk

Serious Ena mode : there are still LFGs that are not about selling you know. People play how they want. They KNOW they can do the runs without buying. I taught such groups, like many others in this subforums.

I could almost solo Arah, and I often duo’d or trio’d it, so yeah, to me it’s easier to do it this way than having to teach a whole group, even if I do it with pleasure.

Yeah I intend to solo content. Always have, always will. If I think it’s doabe, I’ll do it. In real life you can do a group paper on your own. In games you can do a 5-man dungeon by yourself. It’s all about effort, time spent, and learning.

Want some RP ? In all the good RP books, there are mentors to heroes, people who have wandered longer in the harsh world than the heroes. And they are more powerful. Amicable pugs taught me the ways to Arah. To me he is such a mentor. He soloes, and made bad casual me a decent player, able to go through Arah without dying. I then taught my friends, and now we trio P3 every evening, to get some money while having fun with more difficult content, because we have less meatshields (read PVT/clerics PUs) to tank hits for us :/

Funny fact : I also tend to have a lot of time, so I’ll take some and answer you in a polite way, because I don’t want to be infracted. My message can be summed up as : “get lost” though.

Are dungeon sellers lame ?
- No, they’re clearly not. At least legit sellers are not. They are part of the game, and disrespecting them is the same as disrespecting Champion farmers or WvW enthusiasts. They play the game how they want, and if what they want is to create challenge by running a 5-man instance on their own, eventually getting to the last boss through sheer effort and skill, it’s their way of playing and you shouldn’t criticize it. If they then want to sell the path they’ve just manage to do solo, it’s up to them. They don’t find their fun in chap farming, nor in TP trading, so let them get money one way or another. It doesn’t impact on your way to play does it ?

- Yes, it clearly is. Why not yell on the players playing trader wannabes at the TP ? They make products more expensive. They thus impact on your game. Are they undermining the fundamentals of the GW2 community ?
- I think we at least agree on the fact that the fundamentals of a MMO community is all about exchanging info and helping each other. Fact is that most of the people you find posting here to defend what little income they have through dungeon selling are also the guys who spend hours making guides and videos to explain how to play the game well, how to beat the harder content. They don’t even try to prevent people from soloing, they help them do it. They don’t care about competition. Try selling and then come back, maybe your position will change. And since offer meets demand, it’s all about dungeon buyers and sellers. Think about this.

- Same for most of us actually. It will prevent cheaters and exploiters from selling. There are differences between legit solos and using Jumping puzzles…

You want dungeons to require 5 people ?
- This is plain stupid… Man, I have two real life friends playing with me. Do you mean that we’ll have to put up with two players we might not want to play with ? That we won’t be able to joke n party chat, because we might offend someone ? That if by any means we want to play at hours when nobody is online, we’ll just be punished by a no-dungeon rule, while it’s the only game content that we truly like ? That we’ll have to carry some pugs through things that would be funnier if we play just the three of us ? Think before saying such things.

This reminds me of my beginnings in Arah

I’d say take your time to watch the videos from the top PvE guilds, and keep trying. Try to LoS the trash mobs and gather them for easier cleaving, learn the encounters and strat dodging. You might want to play a near meta build, with zerker, ruby orbs and dps traits, all the while keeping some “safety” utilities in order to push yourself higher.

Try to have fun though, don’t push yourself too hard from the beginning

As a result I PuG and end up meeting people from rT and HC. Each time I think → easy run incoming

Today I did it again with Pick-ups, while having a 3 guildies base. It went quite well. We even had this mesmer who first-timed after having watched strife’s guides. He did wonders.

I love Kholer so much. Thing is he must be the best boss in the game skill-wise.

He actually evades, tries to hit different persons, has a one hit skill with an easy tell so you can still make it out unscathed and all.

Sadly he isn’t that hard. We need more bosses like him

Burning defiant stacks is a job for a given member with a given weapon set I think. It would be easier than trying to synchronize a whole party (I often see PuGs burning stacks as soon as the weapon skill that interrupts is off CD).

Yep that’s when you want to interrupt him.
Last call would probably be the end of the animation for the howl.

A 3-man team can easily interrupt it by using the right utilities or another weapon set.
Killing it becomes slower though.
