To repeat:
Full ascended in 1 month playing hard, 3 months if slow
Full ascended not even neededIt might be if you plan to raid.
Highly recommended, yes. Needed, no. For example the Vale Guardian on the beta was killed with plenty of time left on berserk with a sub-optimal group. I figure it was mathematically doable in greens.
But of course everyone should try to get full ascended ASAP if they want to raid, and guilds serious about raiding should make sure their members have it.
I’m just pointing out it isn’t a stiff requirement unless you find you are constantly wiping on berserk with the boss on 3%, for example. And only having members with 7/12 slots ascended or whatever is no excuse not to start giving the raids a try because for some time you’ll be wiping because of play and not gear.

It’s about time dungeon gold got nerfed.
It should be replaced with a generous amount of mats though, to keep dungeons profitable. If there is no real profit everyone will just avoid them, like the trash mobs that get skipped on every run.
Rare drops are a good idea too. Ultra rare weapons, mail carriers, minis etc. There should always be a chance of getting something exciting, even it’s a low chance. It’s like Tequatl – it may not give much gold for the time spent but there is some chance of getting an ascended chest or a unique skin.
The gear progression in that other game was a new tier every 6 months which is why it was called a treadmill – if you stopped playing you’d fall behind quickly.
And yet there are people who have been playing consistently all three years that are still behind that progression, mainly because they were told they would never have to get on it, and players new to the game will take about 3-6 months to get on it, much longer if they aren’t dedicated to the task.
Yeeah that’s not really the target audience though is it? If the raids are indeed “challenging” then I’m not sure gear parity would help them much. The main barriers are being able to raid at least a few nights a week with a guild to progress, and being good enough. Most people who tick those boxes already have the gear or are motivated enough to get it within a month or two.
There is not reason top it off. It shows people who has it EARNED IT
But one of the core promises of this game was that there would be no vertical progression, that you would not never better than exotic gear in order to be able to do any content in the game. They make a lie of that if Ascended gear is going to provide a significant advantage in Raids, but they can make that right by removing that stat difference.
One tier in 3 years is hardly vertical progression is it? The gear progression in that other game was a new tier every 6 months which is why it was called a treadmill – if you stopped playing you’d fall behind quickly.
I think most players who are interested in raiding would have ascended accessories. They’re even accountbound so you don’t need to get them again for alt characters unless you want the different stats/convenience. Having ascended weapons isn’t hard either, especially now you can change the stats in mystic forge. It will probably get even easier with the changes to Fractals making them easier to farm.
To put it bluntly, if you have less than half ascended you’re probably either new or too much of a slacker to be useful in a raid.
However, on FULL ascended, what’s the 6 armor pieces worth in DPS compared to exotic armor and ascended everything else? Can’t be much. It would generally be daft to say “sorry mate, your gloves are only exotic, we’re inviting someone else” unless the damage requirements are VERY tight.

Want people to use less zerker gear? Unavoidable damage!
Most of the damage on that fight looks to be avoidable. The ticking aura is quite low damage, it just ensures there is some value in the aoe healing and support. Nothing to do with gear, there is a timer to stop you sponging it to death anyway. If your group has regeneration, which isn’t difficult, that outheals the aura. Though I wouldn’t want every single boss to have an aura like that.
Just feel like there’s a whole bunch of players who are so used to just mashing 1 with the exact same traits/utilities every fight that if that suddenly doesn’t seem possible they scream “this is BULL!”
The bosses on the ledge to the east of the zone are too easy too. They die in a few hits, you don’t even need a group. So much for challenging group content. And they’re all the same. What up with that?
..
You’re basically saying it’s bad because you don’t (immediately) like it. Raiding would be pretty dull if all you had to was damage the boss while using dodges to stay alive. I mean one lupi is good but you don’t want every boss to be lupi. Having to find a balance between damage and survivability is a challenge for high end content, without it you might as well remove all survivability, defensive support and healing abilities from the game.
As far as overall difficulty is concerned, come back when you’ve killed it? Then you’ll be able to give proper feedback on how it needs to be tuned before launch.
(edited by Eulolia.2467)
It’s the first boss, not the endboss, it didn’t even get killed, and “unavoidable damage” is so you can actually have to deal with different mechanics. You are showing a lack of understanding on multiple levels.
MSI Afterburner works for AMD as well as Nvidia. It shouldn’t reduce FPS as it works in the same way as Shadowplay.
Nah, MSI Afterburner hits FPS a lot more. Example here > https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lgCbqSb5zjE .
The Shadowplay method is different – it can capture from the frame buffer directly. Explanation here > http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?p=4687310#post4687310
any recommendations for AMD cards?
There is an AMD version of Shadowplay, GVR or something, which should come included with their version of Geforce Experience, AMD Gaming Evolved. It’s best to use that if your card supports it as it uses the hardware encoding to not hit fps. There are lots of decent software options like MSI Afterburner but they reduce FPS a lot more.

“we’ll only ever be showing the first story chapter and parts of the first map of the expansion during beta weekends”
Well, that’s a little disappointing.
tons of awesome feedback from the test weekend
Good stuff!
You had the exact same feedback from the previous beta with the farmable beta key portal stones though!
Will we be gaining currency and things for our live account? or will these still be ENTIRELY walled off characters?
Inb4 the first, “I had <insert precursor of choice> drop on my Revenant…” topic pops up on Friday.
Put the useless weapons from the gear box in the forge. Second try gives an Energizer.
And yeah you can’t transfer anything, it seems to duplicate your live account gold/bank when you make the character. And then they are separate.
Once upon a time that drop was designed so you would take 0 fall damage if you landed on the “correct” ledges halfway down. The fall damage there got broken/fixed sometime around the destruction of LA or the first feature pack, so you needed the trait to use that method. Now they seem to have messed with the ledges again. It’s best to just aim to jump right down in one fall now.
I have the Asus. It’s a graphic design monitor (i.e. its main purpose is colour accuracy) but the response isn’t too bad for games. I assume there must be something better out by now though, because that monitor came out in 2011.
The LG has the TN panel not because it’s using cheaper components but because TN has the best response times for gaming, making it the obvious choice if you want to play first person shooters or anything like that.
Grats! I couldn’t work out where to go after the first stash

Yeah notice the Amazon UK “Pre-order Price Guarantee” is only for the pre-order of the pre-order, not the pre-order itself. If that makes sense.
Amazon will be an official supplier of HoT, but Amazon are currently not offering HoT, at least not yet.
Yes they are. It says "Dispatched from and sold by Amazon. " on the listing and " Sold by Amazon EU S.a.r.L. " on basket. Koch is just making the boxes.
(edited by Eulolia.2467)
It was ever thus. Guild Wars 2 preorder back in 2012 was £49.99 on the official website but £35 from amazon themselves before launch.
If you buy HoT from the official site don’t complain when you see it cheaper elsewhere because it’s 99% certain this will happen again. (edit: 100% since the OP listing is real)

I googled for “E3 Countdown” and found http://www.e3countdown.com/ including a timer to the PCGamer show. However, it claims the show starts at 5 pm PT, which doesn’t match what others are saying.
Still, it’s a timer, and better an hour early than an hour late.
The info on the PC Gamer site explains this:
The venue doors open to press and attendees at 5 PM PDT today, June 16. At that point we’ll be switching on the PC Gamer livestream and launching a 1-hour countdown clock paired with music from Disasterpeace and some fun PC gaming trivia. The stage show itself is scheduled to start at exactly 6 PM PDT.
According to the post , the PC Gamer show is from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. Pacific Time (UTC-7). This is 2:30AM to 4AM in the UK, and 3:30AM to 5AM in Central European (Summer) Time. So you might want to get some refreshments.
edit: The actual PC Gaming show is billed to start half an hour earlier, at 2AM UK/ 3AM CEST.
So it’s not clear if this first half-hour will contain any information/trailer/colin, or just be half an hour of fireworks, dancing, bloke on stage saying “yeeeaahh come on”, etc.

Can’t judge it fully until all traits/slots are in but the current template beta Revenant is pretty kitten awful to do open world with. None of the weapon or slot skills feel particularly useful in PvE except the demon elite which functions like a pound-shop death shroud.
The less said about the autoattacks, the better. It’s a choice between a mesmer staff and naked warrior mace.
If these are just the abilities intended for PvP it’s strange we get them as the only option in this beta. They seem too slow and clunky for PvP at the moment too, making them useless all round.

Rubi“Next week we’ll have something extra cool to reveal, and we’re going to need an entire show for it.”
Ah thanks, so “special” was just a massive abuse of quotation marks since they never used that word at all =\
Where did they promise a special announcement? Not doubting it but I missed that. Was it on Points of Interest?
“RNG is borked”
The issue here is lack of proof. But more importantly, how impractical it is to get this proof. It would require a large number of account experiences that all had a large sample size of loot drops for the information to be considered evidence. There is so much that is needed that resorting to ad Populum is a better method. Granted, ad Populum is a logical fallacy but its only power in an argument is limited to show that an issue exists._
It’s not even argumentum ad populum if most people think you’re a loon though.
This is good: Super Adventure Box is now available to explore on the Tyria 3D map viewer website!
Recreate the tribulation mode experience by closing and reopening your browser every 20 seconds?
(note to Arenanet: Bring back SAB, please.)
Adding yet another gay relationship but this time male and male (as great as that would be) would feel like cramming it down our throats
Doctor Freud will see you now..
I’m interested in how a significant number of people responding here have managed to presuppose a gay character, without any indication of their story, would only ever be added “for the sake of it”.
How does one judge if a character has been added solely for the purposes this supposed inclusion conspiracy? Does a new gay character have to be approved by The Committee of Straight Arbiters Of Sexuality on here? I daresay such folk are not easily swayed.
On the other hand there is the elephant in the room of sexual and gender politics (Why is there seemingly no homophobia in tyria, yet all the characters appear completely cisgendered?) but those issues are even more difficult to address in game without coming across as overly didactic.
Unlikely? It’s practically guaranteed. Josh and team shouldn’t have been able to make SAB, they didn’t think it could work. They cheated the functionality has hard as they could to make it work. As such the major changes to many systems throughout the game are basically certain to have broken necessary functionality in SAB.
Here is the problem, though. If they tell us, SAB is bugged all to hell, then they have to deal with, “so when are you going to fix it.” Simple answer, they have more important things to do right now than that. But that answer isn’t good enough. They can’t tell us that. If they say in the future we’re right back to where we started. If they tell us nothing then we’re in that impasse. If they tell us the details then it’s not goo enough. Ultimately, not saying anything at all, regardless, still remains their best solution, where or not you like it.
I doubt it’s severely broken (unless you think adding things to gem store breaks content) but we’ll assume it is for the sake of addressing anet’s communication issue here. How is everybody posting “What on earth is happening with SAB? Hello? Anet? Is anyone there?” a better solution than “When are you going to fix it”? At least with the latter there is some vague relationship between customer and company at work; leaving customers to scream into the abyss probably isn’t the greatest form of customer service.
“People will rage” – is there anything you can’t apply that to?
Arenanet had better cancel Heart of Thorns, just in case.
If only there were some kind of benevolent patrician on the forums who could deal with their concerns..
Perhaps we could call them…Moderators?
If only we had that kind of technology. Sigh…
whispers : Guys… you’re really messing up the straw man that people have so lovingly prepared.
I should really provide cliffsnotes for my posts: the first part was a bulletproof logical extreme of this “rage” straw man that has been posted about 50 times in this thread so far; the second part was a wry reference to lordkrall, it wasn’t about moderators.
Except all the work they have to do to make it work again from all the bugs introduced with the major changes they’ve made to game functionality in that time.
On this, though it has been stated many times already: If it’s been bugged to oblivion and that is their reason for Worlds 1 and 2 not being active (unlikely imo, not that much has changed), they could just post to let people know. [insert ~51st “but rage!” reply below]
I think it is rather naive to assume that people would be content with a post explaining why SAB was not active.
They would see the post, rage about how that is the worst reason ever and then go back to business as usual in this thread.
Good lord, that excuse is getting old. Change the recording, please.

Yeah the shady workers have been there forever but I didn’t notice the consortium ones until now, there are at least 3 pairs of them around LA.
How long have these guys been around for? (see screenshot)
Whats the point of the game when u reach lvl 80 if u cant uppgrade ur character, do more difficult dungeons when u get better gear
You can get full ascended and level 50 in fractals if you want to put some effort in. Takes a bit of time.
Most people play for fun though, and don’t want a forced gear grind..
Well, this topic goes around in circles a bit, so here is some FAQ (or rather a Frequently Posted Interjections).
- Anet needs to focus on HoT content!
No content design is needed, they can just bring back what they already made.
- If they bring back just Worlds 1 and 2, it won’t be enough and people will just complain about world 3 not being released yet.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slippery_slope
- It was too hard and just annoyed players
Tribulation mode was pretty kitten hard, but Infantile Mode just involved running along the rainbow cloud motorway. Normal mode was somewhere in-between.
- World 2 was broken so they can’t bring it back!
World 2 launched with a bunch of bugs which were mostly fixed. Additionally the difficult parts on normal mode (the Geysers in 2-1 and the gong room in 2-2) were both nerfed heavily.
- SAB sucks! Don’t bring it back.
The return of SAB would not inconvenience you in any way, but be great for the people who enjoy it.
- It doesn’t fit the living story!
Haha!
not model quality, model limit. You want that on highest in WvW along with viewing distance. Which drives up cpu requirements a lot.
When you have model limit set on highest, and viewing distance on ultra, the models load quite a bit before the name plates show up. So when you are engaging enemy guild A and then enemy guild B’s group shows up, you have more time to respond and be in a better position. If you have the model limit too low you may get blind sided or you may misjudge the size of the additional enemy force before the nameplates load. Even if you do notice a few seconds later with the name plates, it may be too late and you are stuck completely out of position. Those few seconds of heads up can be critical.
In T1 we have been playing the same people for so long that we know each other by character model, so setting character quality to highest allows us to know who the incoming force is, who is driving, and sometimes snipe the driver as well.
And stock i5 is perfectly fine for running on highest model limit unless you’re in something completely ridiculous like 60v60v60 in the middle of stonemist castle. It’s way, way, way above playing on a laptop. Number of high quality models maxed is not needed. If you can recognise opponents by their models then fine, but it’s hardly a key part of playing WvW. You still have guild tags and ranks anyway.
As for view distance, there’s no explicit option for that. There’s LOD distance, but that affects the shift in texture quality, and is one of the options that hits the graphics card more than the cpu. You can max all that anyway, if you have a half-decent system.
i5’s are fine but a stock sandy bridge i5 will not get sustained 40 fps in large WvW zerg fights which is what op is asking about. Especially with high/highest character model counts and ultra viewing distances (which is important for discerning enemy positions, numbers, reinforcements, tactics)
Sandy bridge is very marginal and OC is necessary even with the newest Haswells for large scale WvW. Which necessitates the need for a decent cooler, as the stock one will throttle at even a moderate voltage bump.
Nobody needs character model quality on highest though. With no HQ model, no supersample and shadows turned down, the game still looks great and runs smooth. You are overstating the requirements a bit.
GW2 is processor-heavy. As long as you have an intel i5 or i7 processor from 2001 (sandy bridge) onwards and an okay graphics card, it should run fine.
You don’t need to overclock unless you want to play with everything (character model limit/quality etc) maxed
You might think this is affordable for $600 but if you buy a cheap PSU you may regret it
(edited by Eulolia.2467)
Karka dropped to about 20fps with everyone on screen.
My settings – see attachment
Some strange settings you have there (textures on low and no AA but character textures all the way up)
Yeah it’s pretty easy because you can pull the wolf so long as you dodge its attack. Just kill it if you pull it and keep going. I’d recommend something with good mobility (warrior, greatsword) so you can get around faster. Get Marjory first, run up and get Kasmeer, run back to the start and west to Rox (until this point you can skip all the trash mobs). Now you need Rox to burn the first set of vines but she’ll want to fight the mobs on the way so you’ll have to kill them. After that run up the left of the map (you don’t need to go via the second set of vines) to Braham and you’re done. It despawns once you have found 4/4 so you don’t have to worry about failing the final run to the centre.
Great to see this getting fixed (relatively) quickly and feedback being listened to
I sell most of my items instantly because I want the immediately gold return without having to worry about whether the item I listed actually sold. Also, it’s way faster when trying to clear some space while in the middle of something. (I know I could salvage, that’s beside the point).
I used to open BLTC, then click Sell tab, then item, then sell, then click Ok. It would sell the entire stack and it was really nice.
Now…. I open BLTC, click Sell tab, drag slider to max, ensure to check box for selling immediately instead of listing, then Sell button, then Ok. If I forget to move the slider it wastes my time. If I forget to check the sell now box instead of listing the item, then I have to deal with the fact that my item may not sell because of shifting prices.
I “sold” like 50 items yesterday before I realized that I was actually listing them instead of instantly selling them. I checked my “items I’m selling” tab and 4 hours later most of my items were still there. That’s just silly for someone who wanted to sell the items right away.
Please fix this. Give us an option to choose certain default settings.
This. Also the popup after selling something “you can pick your coin up from the delivery box!” is just an extra click.
If I want to sell some ores fast when clearing bags, what used to be 2 clicks from the sell list (select item, hit sell) is now 5 clicks (select item, select top buyer, drag slider to max, hit sell instantly, hit ok to close the popup).
Also fewer items are displayed at once on the sell list and they aren’t in alphabetical order by default, making it harder to find things. I know there’s an exciting new bag/search function for finding things, but being able to just see it on the screen in the first place was better.
There are some decent improvements to the trading post (the searching) but the main selling functionality got a whole lot more inconvenient and time-consuming.
There’s not much wrong with the Champion Risen Knight, except the amount of damage that overlapping AoE circles do. It’s actually one of the easiest champions of the lot to solo due to the slow and predictable attacks, and is kiteable if you need to heal.
The Abomination in the worst with a group on certain scales, since it gets 25 stacks almost instantly when fighting a group and they don’t reset. While the “punishes you for getting hit more each time” mechanic is okay (those risen berkserkers in Arah have it), the Abomination is just on constant 1shot mode. It would be better if they debuffed the player to take 50/100/150/200/250% more damage from their hits each time but since this game doesn’t really have debuffs that idea is pretty much impossible.
(edited by Eulolia.2467)
There are four common reasons why stacking may not work:
- You are facing the wrong way when spamming the 1 key with no target
- You picked up the fiery greatsword and had autotarget on
- You forgot to copy the meta build off the internet
- You were busy posting a troll forum thread and another system and neglected to press any buttons on the system you are currently playing “Guild Wars 2” on
Apart from that you should be fine for two thirds of the explorable modes.
Trait Tier level increase. We made this change because despite what the more hardcore players like myself want, most players need to be introduced to systems more slowly so that they don’t get lost. Every time we overwhelm new players that is an opportunity for them to stop playing the game. Every time that happens it becomes harder and harder for new players to develop into longtime players.
Urggh. Here’s a better design idea: don’t treat players as dumb unless they’re actually being dumb. There’s nothing wrong with introducing traits at level 10. If a player doesn’t pay attention and has no spent trait points, give them another helpful popup every time they level up, getting more direct each time until at level 80 it practically says “look mate, your character’s a kitten”. There’s nothing wrong in saying to players “hey! there’s a new feature available for you now, you can give it a look if you like or go back to it later” rather than “Sorry, this very useful key feature is currently unavailable because there’s a chance you might be too dumb to understand it even though it’s a basic slot/choice system that is in every computer game with roleplaying elements ever”.
On topic:
As for the unlock objectives, the idea has its merits but it doesn’t work at all in practice. This is particularly true for the first tier of traits, where the option to a new player to unlock something basic is to either do some obscure level 50-60ish objective or just pay 2 skill points and some silver to unlock it for no effort (an option many new players won’t even see). It would have made more sense to have all those objectives unlock Elite Skills and tokens for starter level 80 gear and some optional stuff rather than unlock traits.
And sending newbies to Obsidian Sanctum? That’s just evil.

Dude, it’s called trolling ^^
Since these insecure “joke” threads are ten-a-penny, the correct way to troll these forums is to respond to them with serious advice.
“Safe Spot” – Standing in a location to hold aggro or attack a monster/boss while it is unable to damage you (basic attack) and does not leash back to it’s original starting position.
This is an abuse of a geometry and/or pathing bug, and is considered an exploit.
You’re defining it in terms of exploits there, Chris. Surely it’s possible to have a safe spot which isn’t an exploit?
For example, there was a safe spot on the fractal clown car boss where he could melee you but not hit you with his 1shot shockwave thing, and that was patched. How do you define that? Safespot? Safeishspot? Exploits?
