Wait, people have trouble with the boss ?
Is this a thing ?

I died like 10 times on that boss and I never normally die on any story stuff. About 5 deaths were fair screwups like not hitting the special action button in the (very short) window but the rest felt like getting killed by high levels of splashy damage, especially with the jade add up.

Though it was not really troublesome, because the boss health doesn’t reset.

This may be a slight tangent but you really need to squish both the drop rate and amounts needed from t5 materials. Stop us getting 100 greens and blues from one meta chain. I know it may help sell bag slots and salvage-o-matics but it’s just silly now. It would make a lot more sense if we only needed a few bolts of semi-valuable silk to make a Spool of Silk Weaving Thread instead of 100 super cheap bolts.

From a player perspective the ideal loot system does away with things of little to no value. After all, what’s more exciting, getting 50 things worth 2 silver, or getting 1 gold?

The overall design of the encounters in fractals mostly leads to condi necromancers by a process of elimination. You probably wouldn’t use them on speed runs but the aim of t4 fractal pugs is just to finish them with the least death possible. Melee is bad on over half the bosses. 12k hp is bad. Being able to hit multiple targets is good. Being able to hit moving targets is good.

Account hacking incident

These are all established and documented policies. We have a great team of customer support agents who follow these policies, and the hacker tried a bunch of times and found one agent who didn’t.

Surely if incorrect details are given there should be a flag on the account so customer support is aware that someone has been trying to steal it.

And staff accounts.. they should always raise suspicion..

If there’s a problem with two-factor authentication, it’s when the company gets complacent with its security practices and just tells anybody who gets hacked it was their problem for not using the extra authentication. It’s easy to forget about implementing proper protocols to stop social engineering.

Errr, so why do we just hang up on Taimi at the end, mid-conversation, mid-reveal? That was… weird.

Didn’t seem like we hung up, or that it was mid-conversation. Taimi said what was needed. Primordus is now active.

Either mine bugged out or it was really just that.

“Primordus is now active”

Er.. how.. what..why.. argh? Why would the player character just hang up and say nothing? It was such a weird abrupt ending.

I thought the mordremoth reveal was badly handled with Marjory just casually mentioning mordremoth for the first time like you’re meant to have known all along, but this may have been even worse.

I thought there was a general clunkiness to the endings of most of the story instances, actually. Especially the “we’re deep underground in rata novus okay airship bye” one.

The “event completer” dailies are never worth doing. If you did 2 PvE ones already and there’s just that and a dungeon left, do the easiest WvW or PvP one to get the third.

(though getting DS events done is easy if you join near the map reset. if there is less then an hour left you may struggle to get a map.)

They’re in the jungle…

Auric Basin has the most. The green areas in Tangled Depths, NW quarter of Dragon’s Stand. It’s hard to get many lillies but if you gather everything else with the guild booster and sell the lot, you can have the money to buy the rest you need. Especially if you get lucky with Freshwater Pearl and Giant Mushroom Spore.

I’d quite like them to buff the droprate on Lillies because they make pretty nice guild hall decorations..

Fractals - Old infusions are useless...

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Eulolia.2467

I have no idea why they added +7 infusions in the first place. They’re not hard to make so there’s no reason why the expensive stat infusions and prestige infusions (ghostly, moto) shouldn’t be +7 too.

Really they should have made 100AR the cap (simple system, e.g. level 40 requires 40AR) instead of 150 and not added the +7 infusions and attuned slots. Having to spend a small amount of fractal relics to upgrade from 5 to 7 or move your character to the forge to attune rings using trash materials adds nothing to the gameplay except making the infusions that took actual effort to acquire useless.

Selling SAB

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Eulolia.2467

Eulolia.2467

Alright, it’s about time I commented on this.

As of now we don’t have a problem with players doing this. While the late join is unintended, if players want to pay for this service, that’s fine. It does trivialize the skins some, but this isn’t any different than the skins from purchasing a raid run or a dungeon run (which we also are ok with). As long as the transaction is completed and players are getting what they paid for, fine.

However, that doesn’t mean that we aren’t going to fix this. A fix is in the works right now, and that fix may happen before SAB closes or be there for the next time the festival opens.

Can you make it so that gear bought with unearned tokens just disintegrates after 30 minutes, or turns into a clown outfit?

Appreciate the honesty. I know it has probably been said a hundred times in this thread already, but having a large team working on the next expansion when the current one is still so unfinished* and dysfunctional is a really bad idea.

I imagine Mike knows this, but the Anet business gurus have decided that expansions equal money so that’s where the staff have to go. That’s not a good idea if the amount of potential expansion buyers has decreased dramatically due to the state of the live game though. I was happy with HoT at release but since then something has seriously gone wrong.

*The “half an expansion” thing is a bit harsh but I think this often refers to things being left in a questionable state with no changes for 5 months now. For example Scribing costs were obviously too expensive and that hasn’t changed. The HoT maps are stuck on that 2h timer/taxi system which anet has acknowledged is bad but has done nothing about. WvW is… well, you can see any post on the WvW forums for that. And the current living story is about 3 hours long, at least 2 hours of which is NPCs standing there engaging in unskippable dialogue or running between locations.

Flax Farming... 4 or 5 hours daily? Um...

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Eulolia.2467

Eulolia.2467

If you like gathering you should set yourself the challenge of finding more efficient routes and farms. Flax isn’t so great. As mentioned already the Elder Wood farm is pretty good. Running the 40-70 maps for hard wood and seasoned wood (and ores+certain herbs) on a fast character (daredevil is best, warrior is good) is probably the most consistent gold. The nodes are everywhere, and if you do ascalon maps you have a chance of getting that lumber core worth 90g or something. Starting from the bottom of cursed shore with the seaweed and coral orbs works too.

Scribing Costs

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Eulolia.2467

Eulolia.2467

This was posted 6 weeks ago and it’s nearing 5 months since launch. It seems they’re being held back for the ‘Seasonal Update’ next month.

I can only think the view of the developers is (in lieu of any new content) packing as much as possible into one seasonal update makes it look like they’re doing more than if they release the same changes incrementally. But, from a player point of view, they just released an expansion which wasn’t even finished and then abandoned it for months at a time.

The game has been quite stable for three years and that has allowed for a chilled approach to any kind of balancing changes. Right now we are in a completely different situation with a rough expansion launch and a huge amount of work to be done just to get some of the core features of the expansion working properly.

This is a time when the game needs some rapid attention. Scribing decorations costing far too much? Fix it! Don’t add it to a list of things to fix in the future, get at the desk and reduce the materiel requirement, throw it onto live, then in a couple of weeks check to see if it’s done the trick.

You guys — SAB is coming back. Colin said it. It’s true. This is positive and definite and no I don’t have a date and I know you’d like to have one but that’s not possible but… it’s coming back. Posts that proclaim it’s not coming are not just wrong — they’re dead wrong. Posts that express upset about the coin — while I understand them — will be moot when SAB returns. Which will happen.

All I can say is keep your chin up, because it’s going to happen.

Pretty much boycotted the gem store because of the continue coin debacle. You can call that moot if you want but I’m sure other players have been put off too. I can’t support the gem store after being sold a dud.

I actually have a constructive half-solution: since gliders are the fashion at the moment, add a SAB-themed glider and let people who bought an Infinite Continue Coin get it for free. It’s not remotely as good as getting the actual SAB back (oh, the pain of seeing “LFG SAB” [Sabetha] in lfg all the time) but it’s at least a positive gesture which acknowledges, rather than dismisses, the problem.

Scribing Costs

Eulolia.2467

This should have been addressed a week into HoT. Waaaaaaaaaay too late.

Really, it should have been addressed during the design phase.

Failing that, in QA.

It’s just absurd that this made it to live release, when there’s so much that’s so clearly broken.

PLEASE take a look at your process, folks.

I don’t buy the balancing excuse when it’s as pricy as now, and will probably continue to be pricy even after the patch. It seems more likely to me that somebody higher up decided everything in HoT had to be a grind in order to artificially increase the longevity of the game. But this has never been GW2’s audience. I’ve seen activity in game/guild drop faster in the last couple of months than at any point before the expansion launched. People are complaining about the game feeling like a job, and that’s without raiding.

Guild Halls should be a casual place to relax, not a constant effort for scribing materials and expensive upgrades. The resonance machine and the aetherium is already a good way of slowing things down, so people don’t have 5000 decorations or a fully upgraded hall after a week. The additional major gold cost is utterly inappropriate and goes completely against the casual core of the game.

Suggest this:

- Make Ceramic Planters a vendor item or craftable for a few silver. Upgrading shrubs and trees is pricey enough without the cost of the planters.

- Remove the resonating slivers requirement completely and instead make slivers an item to buy the minis/recipes in place of crystalline ore and gold. Make guild missions give a few liquid gold each to incentivise them.

- Reduce overall amounts of sand, flax, and pigment required. The price of these will just rocket if one or two are reduced without the others.

- Mast Pole still isn’t in the game, is Decoration Merchant 3 meant to sell it instead of Basic Flagpole?

Two part question, Stacking and skipping

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Eulolia.2467

Eulolia.2467

Anyone here think that the AI of dungeon enemies should be changed to stop us stacking? Kind of like the spider queen?

Honestly i hate it so much when people just stack everything.

yes it’s faster but what if you are playing just to have fun.

When I do a dungeon for the first time I want to experience it “properly” and try clearing everything etc. But doing it for the 50th time I’d much rather clear it efficiently than waste time pulling things that aren’t necessary or kiting things around because people won’t melee.

The problem comes when people who are at that first run stage and people at the 50th run stage are in the same group. Inevitably they will find their conflicting approaches irritating, especially if they’re playing with strangers whom they probably won’t see again.

The best solution is to group with people with a similar mindset, or friends rather than randoms.

Dragon's Stand meta blighting towers

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Eulolia.2467

Eulolia.2467

I suspect at least some of them come from the blighting pods down below, but I don’t have poison mastery, so I can’t test this theory.

This is what I thought, but it requires a group to test. If killing the blighting pods did help, it would make sense for the boss group to kill them after the boss, while waiting for the other lanes to finish.

Dragon's Stand meta blighting towers

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Eulolia.2467

Eulolia.2467

The typical strategy for the Blighting Towers is to split into two groups.

The Zerg group starts by circling the area and killing the preservers only. They then continue the rest of the event doing nothing but circling and killing the preservers.

The Boss group starts by following behind the Zerg group and killing the pods. After the three pods are killed, they then move on and kill the boss.

The Pods are important in that if they respawn, the boss will regenerate forcing that lane to start the chain over again. The Preservers can respawn the pods if they are allowed to reach the pod spawn area alive. Therefore it is important to kill the preservers ASAP to make sure the pods do not respawn. So the pods are very important, but if you are following a competent zerg, you should never have to bother with them.

Erm, the big pods that have swords on em? you have to kill em to make the boss vulnerable, else you can’t kill them.
Preservers keep respawning to resummons the pods, which you do not want.

No, no, no. I am not referring to the collectors that have to be killed to make the boss vulnerable. Obviously I know how the boss works with the current tactics. I am referring to the BLIGHTING PODS which are in the pit in the middle.

In Heart of the Mists you can easily select stats and adornments. Why not introduce this system in raids too? No more whining about ascended gear being a “requirement” too. I’ve thought this through for at least a minute and it seems flawless.

after getting gold in all except Haywire..

Tendril Torchers:
Difficulty – 3
Fun – 8
This is a good introductory adventure, requires learning a simple route and doesn’t have any frustrating mechanics.

Bugs in the Branches:
Difficulty – 5
Fun – 4
A lot less fun than burning things in tendril torchers, this is a decent test of basic jumping and gliding but altogether an unsatisfying experience. It needs some angry ravens or something to mess you up.

Flying Circus:
Difficulty – 4
Fun – 6
The issue with this adventure is it’s tuned around 5 gliding mastery to be able to stealth the frogs, glide the long gap and make the timer. Assuming you have those masteries, it’s fairly fun.

Shooting Gallery:
Difficulty – 9
Fun – 3
This really needs to be instanced. Currently it is only available in the time between training Faren and night falling, which is not long for a difficult adventure. Also other players standing in the line of sight makes things awkward. There should at least be a mechanic like the clock tower which makes other players invisible. The RNG needed for gold is not fun; if the targets are going to be RNG-based they should at least exclude the one that spawns behind the rock, requiring 5 seconds of movement from the area the rest can be hit from. And why does it sometimes give pairs of targets after about 27 targets, and sometimes not until 33? Is this just more RNG or is there some hidden mechanic (shoot them from further away). The best I got in this for ages was 37 and was constantly getting tries of 34-37, then suddenly I had “good RNG” and got 40 with 5 seconds left on the clock..

Salvage Pit:
Difficulty – 0
Fun – 9
I love red circles and tentacles, so this is automatically fun. Difficulty goes from 0 to 9 when there are dead players on top of the scraps.

The Floor Is Lava?:
Difficulty – 8
Fun – 6
Getting thrown up in the air constantly is kind of a bit fun, but sometimes you randomly get the lava dot which means you need to restart. Spores have a bug which immobilises you if you dodge into them and click during animation, which is not fun. The timer and route here is tight. I couldn’t find a better way than fennec’s video (except skipping the one kick half way through and doing it on the turnback to get the speed mushroom again, which may knock off about 0.2 seconds) and the margin for error is close to zero. Probably impossible for anyone with a bit of lag.

On Wings of Gold:
Difficulty – 2
Fun – 5
Feels a little like Bugs in the Branches, but a bit more forgiving. Fairly forgettable. As with the other Auric ones this is often locked for no reason (window around octovine).

Sanctum Scramble:
Difficulty – 6
Fun – 4
So there’s a jumping puzzle but you mainly just use the 1-2 combo or 3 to skip it. This one seems a bit tacked-on.

Fallen Masks:
Difficulty – 9
Fun – 2
As with shooting gallery this screws you with the random patterns. But it’s even worse, because you’re not left thinking “I could have overcome that bad RNG, if only I’d sniped 4 targets in 4 seconds right before it”. Instead you suffer the pain and indignity of watching the timer decrease as your character moves perfectly to the other side of the room while hope drains away. Learning the optimal routes to some of them and including speed mushrooms is a challenge but not particularly fun. The best advice is to remember to use your elite skill hotkey to end the adventure quickly when it screws you.

A Fungus Among Us:
Difficulty – 7
Fun – 6
This has the two most clunky 1 and 2 skills ever but does have a level of comedy fun to it. Not a hard route to learn but can go wrong quite easily due to aforementioned clunky skills.

The Ley-Line Run:
Difficulty – 2
Fun – 7
Seems intimidating at first but a short and painless gold run once you know the route. The one gold jumpy thing annoyingly half-buried in the rock can be skipped and you can still get gold in time. Just, er, make sure the camera is facing the right way when you start it.

Drone Race:
Difficulty – 5
Fun – 6
I like the high risk, high reward, charge skill in this. Still don’t know why the last jump randomly kills you half the time.

Beetle Feast:
Difficulty – 5
Fun – 5
This provides quite an imaginative set of skills, but the sheer amount of skill powerups en-route means you can overuse them without much thought as long as you have some for the first wall and the end. Also seems like someone else can kill the monsters (it’s a hero point after all) to make it very easy. It’s not bad, but easy to forget it exists due to its location.

Haywire Punch-o-Matic Battle:
Difficulty – 11
Fun – 6
It would be good to hear from the devs if this is broken/impossible with the current timer or if everybody is just doing it wrong.

Scrap Rifle Field Test:
Difficulty – 7
Fun – 7
This is a really good example of a challenging adventure with no RNG. Spent at least 5 hours finding a good route (hint, you can glide to the other side of the platform the first mushroom takes you from the second (first left) mushroom, so you don’t need to run all the way back to the first mushroom) but you can do it with room for error once you have the route and mechanics nailed.

I just need this and haywire to get all gold. The timer’s okay but they need to make it instanced and/or remove the randomness. I’m always in with about 5 max size charr who stand in the field of view.

I’m just barely capable of silver, i dont even remotely think gold is doable. That said i understand i’ll need to put in a lot of work to get better at it.

You can get silver by pretty much spamming tab and 2 for most of it, but gold seems unobtainable currently.

There is a bug with this adventure when if you dodge roll and click a spore during the dodge animation, you get immobilised and have to restart. I did get gold in this eventually but lost at least 20 attempts to this bug :>

and Ley Line Gliding

barring exploiting a glitch, it is impossible to complete Auric Basin without Ley Line Gliding

same with Dragon’s Stand, except you can’t even glitch it

Yes you can, you don’t even need experimental rifles. Not sure if you mean spider nest or the hoop at the bottom of south lane, but both can be reached with just gliding.

Strange that it’s basically a big PvE damage buff rather than fixing the actual issues people have with Berserker, but whatever.

Who cares if everyone can’t get capped mastery easily? Do you really need that extra 20 points to remove chak acid with your healing skill and challenge the chak champion? It’s only an issue if some core content is gated by it. Making all the optional stuff stupidly easy too is just watering down the game. Some people have such a sense of entitlement, it’s unbelievable.

Complaint: unavoidable damage

A big part of it is learning the new tells and scripts. Normal mobs are more punishing than before with a gimmick burst attack every 10-15 seconds. Still, most of them to give you a fair chance if you study them. There is also lots of new stuff to not stand in like the blue goo from the chak and the fire lines from the snipers. Mushrooms are quite fun – on their own they are easy but a couple together love to combo you in a hilarious way with knockdown followed by bomb. Some of the Vet mushrooms also troll you by casting a red circle around themselves but then the actual spell is leaping to a random player.

A few types are a bit ridiculous like those rolling devils which seem to just pump out constant damage to anyone in melee range.

Verdant Brink mastery jumping puzzle

Yeah this jumping puzzle wasn’t great. It’s more of a fight against mechanics than anything else. Don’t get me started on those strafe-jumps around pillars, or the one where you have to hit max jump height at the right moment to not slip down. Fortunately I didn’t get stuck in any terrain when falling.

I think gold should be difficult and require some degree of perfection. That’s why the rewards for the collections only require silver.

I gold’d the fungus one and didn’t use some of the skips that guy did. A couple of them don’t actually save any time. Like after 1ing the bit with the red circles, it’s it’s easier to just run down the mushrooms until the last one then use 2 from there to the checkpoint.

The start is the hardest part. If you manage to 1 skill from the startpoint into the right side of the mushroom, then 1 again up the hill without getting stuck, then leap the gap with 2, the rest isn’t hard.

Some of them seem almost impossible to get gold on still though. Scrap rifles in tangled depths, exalted masks in tarir..
edit: Nevermind, worked them out now, but RNG on masks is wrong.

I played several Adventures during the first few days after launch and it was a fun experinece where everyone on team had some chance as we learned together. Now the elites have taken them over so you’re either that good or you’re not. You don’t become a pro F1 driver by going from getting your license to going out on a track every day with an F1 pro race care driver. When you pit amateurs against elites, the amatures just get crushed and eventually move on. To improve at something most people need to be pitted against experienced competitors. Then they grow instead of getting instantly crushed. This is all common sense. Given x amount of experience some players will rise to be more skilled than others, but when you have the best skilled players with the most experience going up against played with little or no experience there is no fun in that and there is very little chance of the player no no experience at the adventure progression. Exceptionally skilled players could rise in those circumstances, but the point is the bar to enter and just have fun learning has been raised exponentially higher than it should be. If this is what ANet intended then no change is needed. If what is occuring is not what they desire then I’m just doing my part to let them know how drastically my positive experience with adventures has become a negative one. Not because I expect to win every time, but because as it stands I can’t even get a handle on what’s going on any more without some other player ending it.

Heh, what does it have to with other players? The adventures are solo content and the thresholds for gold/silver/bronze are fixed. The only one where other players being there seemed a factor was that salvage pit one in Verdank Brink but that was simple enough anyway.

Yeah, all the information is there. Talk/listen to NPCs, those Scout things which explain plot, and follow the meta events.
