I actually like Rata Sum for crafting as it’s all much closer to the TP.. but problem is, no forge. Then the vigil keep has everything fairly close.. but no crafting. Given how the forge can play a role in some crafting recipes, these two amenities shouldn’t have been split up imo.
This is why the “crafting is available in other cities” argument doesn’t fly for me.
Mystic forge is easy to get to from anywhere. Just port to the mists, run to forge (takes 10 seconds) and when you’re done you can hit “leave the mists” and return to exactly where you were.
Yet we have no idea exactly HOW dragons awaken.
Not quite but here’s a bit from the Edge of Destiny book and the EOTN story which is maybe relevant to the current LW:
Two hundred and fifty years ago, a hunter named Svanir and his sister Jora led a band of norn to slay the wolves that ruled Drakkar Lake. They were crossing the frozen waters when a strange presence grasped Svanir’s mind. It whispered seductions to him, promised power and prey. It was a voice of infinite hunger and hate, and Svanir listened to it.
Jora heard the voice, too, but it terrified her. She refused its dark gifts and tried to drag her brother away, but he struck her and told her she was weak, told her he had discovered the well of power. She fled.
Svanir remained to commune with his newfound lord. In time, the voice began to change him. It taught him to hate all living things. It stripped him of his human form and made him a champion—half bear, half norn, encrusted with ice. Svanir wandered the wastes in madness, attacking any who came near. He became a monster that his own sister had to destroy.
Over the next hundred fifty years (sic), the voice seduced more norn, and they joined the cult, becoming the Sons of Svanir. They believed they were drawing upon the ancient voice, but in fact it was drawing upon them, gaining the power to rise.
And it did rise. One of the Elder Dragons. Jormag was its name.
I quite like the first theory, though she would have to be deceiving the voice in her head for it to work. Maybe Caithe’s “secret” is that she was reponsible for something equally destructive once, for similar reasons.

It’s not really people being jerks, it’s people with a different view of the game mechanics. If you get downed then most of the time in these big events you can rally yourself from tagged mobs. It’s amazing how many players don’t know this and stay downed when stuff is dying all around them. If you end up fully dead, which shouldn’t happen often, you take much longer to res and most people won’t res you unless there’s nothing else to do nearby. People shouldn’t be ressing dead players when there are mobs all over the place. You’re like 20 seconds away from the waypoint, just run.
Although yes I have to say ANet could have done this better.
I don’t think they could have.. a huge portion of the personal story is about an undead attack on Lion’s Arch. If it was still in “old” LA that would be even more story-breaking because the player has almost definitely seen the destroyed Lion’s Arch and would suddenly be presented with a pre-attack one, which would be in keeping with the original timeline but not work at all in game – “oh, I’ve time travelled”. Unless they rewrote the whole thing to be about an attack on Rata Sum or someplace else, there’s nothing they can do.
They should have just disabled Commander tags in the zone. Zerging mostly happens because of the tags, otherwise it’s well-designed with about 100 people spread across 4 or 5 tasks at once. There’s nothing worse than seeing 50 people hugging a commander, half of them even stay right on them WvW-style. All the events work best with 10-20 people, if people just scattered they’d have higher success.

It sounds like she is trying to release whatever it is that has been talking to her, my theory is nuch like Thaumanova, she’s breaching a hole in the fabric of reality itself, to release it from the eternal alchemy, dream, or wherever it is. Probably Mordremoth, which would explain why it hasn’t been seen on Tyria before.
They actually updated the dialogue on the avatar recently. She talks a bit about her grief at Scarlet being consumed by something.
No surrender.

I wouldn’t say it was much more veiled than before, they just get Massively to write it for them now..
You need to know not just the mechanics of the boss but the mechanics of other players. Apparently it’s super hard to move out of an AoE circle, to the point where players would much rather stand still in the poison while they die and kick the person who went out of range, rather than dodge into a safe spot and type “hey pls stay melee so we don’t get aoe”. Doing this requires gargantuan levels of patience, co-operation and adaptability.
The LA one seems bugged because it doesn’t show up until you’ve done Marionette. Once you’ve tried that (and possibly wurm too, don’t need to kill it) another instance “Scarlet’s Secret Lair” becomes available underneath the Priory where the guild rush is, through a fake wall. You need 50 power core things before you can enter the instance and 25 of the other cipher things (from the Marionette event) to use the console. I guess there’s some story after that but the cipher things take a long time to collect, especially the Scarlet’s Lockbox ones. It could have done with some more presentation polish before release.
Little minds? I’ll give you a very nice example of what a “little mind” is. And this is by no way a generalization of what the players in Gandara or any other server are, it’s pointing the finger at a player that should be ignore by the whole community, by it’s own server and all others. Here goes…
As a player who was in WvW the whole season to play and not to get achievs I was this last week completing a few achievs since the season was mostly decided, so I went for the JP in Obsidium. Sadly I found out the very bad way that there was this guy from FART Guild from Gandara ganking and fearing people to the start of the JP. This is an example of a little mind, you can call it QQ from my behalf but sadly I thought I only got this kind of behaviour from other games where the community is, in my opinion, is worse.
This is one sad little minded player and all else being discussed in this forum is just plain PvP and WvW, my opinion and have fun with the screeshot, I hope this guy had is share of fun until a bunch of AM guys killed him and danced on top of his little mind.
This is how the game works. They designed the obsidian map to be competitive and have chokepoints and traps to encourage people fighting each other. You just reported someone for playing the game as it was intended.
Personally I like running quickly to the end of the JP and not fighting, and I don’t get any pleasure from ganking people, but that’s not how the map is designed. They built it for the “little mind” players who enjoy camping the choke points and have no shame in having FART as their guild tag. You can try and kill the people blocking you, wait for more people to help or come back at a different time. It can be quite fun to finally kill the people blocking the path. That’s when the design kind of works well.
This fractal would actually be quite well designed if the dredge themselves weren’t so annoying. On level 1-19 it’s fine but it scales harshly after that. For one thing they have that shockwave attack, which just mows down a whole party when there area large number of mobs all casting it, and they get protection which makes them a pain to kill. This makes the door-bombing part a suicidefest. If the mobs were useless grubs or something there would be no issue. Other thing is the “clown car” taking ages (takes twice as long every tier, why?) but at least they drop nice loot.
Suggest 1)getting rid of the door bombing (give cannons every time) 2) just delete the room with the clown car, one thing i like about fractals is it rarely feels like you’re clearing trash mobs, but that part goes against that 3) (possibly) make the cast time to open the first time lower, or stop it breaking on damage
Calling it.

You can try some different ways of doing dodge jump if the thumb doesn’t work. If spacebar is a problem you can bind two adjacent small keys such as the [ and ] brackets and try hitting both of those at once which should be easier.
For me the thumb method was not that reliable, but what works 90% of the time is using two fingers and a very fast tapping motion to press the keys. A full tap and release, not just the down motion.
Ahh, it won’t even hit you? That’s a pretty awful thing to happen right at the end =\
You tried digging until you get a rabbit to knock you back?
Sounds too difficult. I just auto attack, AFK for 15s and collect loot. Due to his new attacks being in predefined spots, they never hit, and he never seems to cast his targeted original attack, so I can just stand there auto attacking. It does this for all W2 cages.
It does do a 360 attack too but that’s easy enough to avoid. Just double dodge forwards a second after it does its ROFL emote.

WHY did you make me back track half way through the map to get to the shortcut eagle
You don’t have to backtrack, just think a bit instead of following a video that was put out quickly and has a far from optimal route. This achievement was frustrating but not for those reasons you listed (i’ll give you the bauble counter or popup before boss, that would make it far better).

You don’t need to dodge jump before the eagle – when you jump, just move perfectly straight, parallel to the side of the cloud and you should make it with a fair few pixels to spare.
Because you were forced to pay 30g for it, otherwise you couldn’t complete tribulation mode and get tribulation achievements.
Oh wow. Paying gold to win is pay to win? By this logic, the book that lets you learn grandmaster traits is pay to win as well.
C’mon, everybody’s got gold in the bank from the queens’ gauntlet loot fest, and even if you haven’t it doesn’t take that long to get up to 30g.
If you guys are mad about being able to get an event item faster with gems, you’re going to be really mad when you find out you can buy gems and convert them to gold and buy legendaries too.

Actually, it will matter quite a bit. The forum states that there is a 10% increase in the relative stats between an exotic weapon and an ascended one. A 10% increase is not insignificant. Yes, for PvE it doesn’t matter, at least for now, but WvW it will make a difference.
Surely in WvW it will make even less difference than in PvE. WvW is mostly fought in large battles, and a scattering of players on both sides having 10% better in a slot has little overall impact. WvW will still follow the rule of the zerg always wins, unless they meet a very organised guild group.
I am aware of the existence of the six ascended slots, as a matter of fact, it is just those slots that I base my opinion on. I run a mesmer, and started WvW with all exotic gear –
and did ok, maybe, but was getting killed way too much. So, I took a look at the build, and decided that I needed the addition of some ascended items. I added 3 of the six, and I am currently running all exotic gear except for the rings and amulet. Those are now ascended. And the difference has been amazing. I survive, and am able to down opponents, much more effectively with the addition of just 3 ascended pieces.
Maybe you just got better at playing? A few Ascended may take a couple of your stats from 1850 to 1880 or something, it’s not a big enough power gain margin to swing most fights.
Just take a look at the builds posted for the game – how many of the current builds posted don’t use ascended items? Pretty much zero. Why is that, do you think, if they make so little difference?
Well, obviously people put best in slot items on build lists and ascended are best in slot. It doesn’t mean dropping a couple of dozen stat points suddenly makes the build useless.
I’m not a supporter of the ascended grind but you’re overstating a small power increase. It’s not going to matter if you don’t have it. Most players will not have it. Only in your own mind does it matter. It’s probably even less of a power increase than switching to an “of x slaying” sigil weapon for whatever dungeon you’re doing. And in WvW, what difference does 5 of the players on each side in a 40vs40 fight having another 5% damage/stat make? Zilto.
Think – there have already been SIX ascended slots for some time. I have never once seen anybody demanding you have ascended gear to do any content.
(this is directed at the previous post, because it states “f you want to be competitive, then you must have this ascended gear” which is simply not correct. I actually agree with the OP and the general sentiment that this kind of ascended grinding doesn’t belong. What they should have done is added all this stuff they just added, but the final result being crafted precursors instead of a new tier)
(edited by Eulolia.2467)
Did you try the new ones, like we said? The new ones are
Dire
Magi
Assassin
Cavalier
Shaman
and a couple more
I think they are the new ones because they require ectos in the discovery too, unlike the old ones which use the ectos to craft the inscription itself.
Get it from the trading post. They’re available so it can’t be a bug. They’re part of the new crafting types like Magi’s, Cavalier’s, Assassins etc. I think they may drop from world bosses, not sure.
(edited by Eulolia.2467)
You can just buy deldrimor or whatever from the trading post. The real gating is from needing 500 empyreal fragments and dragonite ores, the things that drop them are daily.
Exotic inscriptions, the new ones.
Will it ever go back to 30 gems for 1 gold?
Nope. Inflation’s only sending the cost of gems one way.
I got two precursors yesterday, the mace and harpoon gun (bah, why did it have to give me the lowest value one). I’ve never used the forge much before, but had about 80 of those mystic forge stones in back from the achievement chest rewards so I thought I’d put them to use. I just bought random cheapo 80 exotic weapons and put 3 in with a stone every time. Either it would return a cheap exotic which I could put back into the forge or an exotic worth >2g which I could sell on the TP.
The good thing about the stones is they seem to completely randomize what weapon type comes out. I’d put 3 warhorns in with a stone and almost never get a warhorn back. I tried to find proper information on how all this works, but there is none, but just random anecdotes and the occasional developer rumour denial.
Camp one tower for roughly 20-30 minutes and you get all 5 champs.
If you’re extremely lucky. Otherwise you could be there for hours. It’s better to port around 3 or 4 different champions every 5 minutes and hang about if there’s one you need. Doing the 30 towers achievement first/at the same time seems to be the best idea because you should get a few champions just from doing that.
I play a tank guardian, changing my traits won’t turn me into a damage dealer…
People have done this in cleric gear on guardian, check the earlier posts. Yes you may need to change your traits, this costs less than a waypoint and there is a trainer provided in the zone, so refusal to change traits is just pure stubbornness.
I don’t see why they’d nerf it. The tickets are the limiting factor. It is intended to get one box per ticket and that’s what you get. If you’re good or a berserker warrior you can use the tickets faster with gambits. Seems to be working as intended.
People having problems with endurance regen should watch this video
I think the guy dodges once in the whole of phase 2. This was the key to the fight for me, realising you don’t need to waste dodges on circles if you move along the right path.
Most of the people I’ve seen hit the timer are just using silly support weapons, like guardians trying to damage one target with a staff. And/or they’re just aimlessly running around trying to kite instead of attacking. You don’t need berserker gear but you do need to be willing to change your weapons and your traits as appropriate.
I think we have a lot of room to keep growing. But our team isn’t done yet. We’ve got some exciting things coming later this month. Things you’ve never seen in this game before.
This is what I love about this game. More new stuff later this month, and we just had a nice patch a couple of days ago. In a lot of other games you’d be promised stuff that wouldn’t be out for 4 months and be paying a monthly fee in the meantime.
This update was quite decent. The gauntlet is original. It would be nice if there was some kind of training version of that to teach newer players how to play (starting with really simple stuff that veterans take for granted, like turning with the mouse when running), and eventually it ramped up to maximum difficulty. I know there is some complaining about 1-shot mechanics but it’s really the best way to make stuff hard, if you can survive failing on the core mechanics it just becomes more of a gear check or what class you’re playing check than an execution check.
If there’s one thing I don’t like it’s the ground floor part of the pavilion. I see how this design is supposed to work – along the lines of Everquest 2 content like Skyshrine in which people can from parties and farm mobs. But due to the “anyone who hits it” loot system you just end up with one big zerg train running around the zone rather than small parties. And that’s a shame, because the zone would be more enjoyable as an eq-style zone in which you need to join a party to survive. Maybe that’s too old-fashioned and MMO players don’t want to form parties themselves and talk to each other anymore. I don’t know.
Did you check your graphics settings? The patch set all my graphics to high, which makes it take longer to load. One of the settings has a huge impact. Texture detail maybe.
Guys, I’m 75% sure this is a troll thread.
20 slot bags. You seen how much they are on trading post? I’m not sure what the point in getting up to level 50 is though, other than to be able to get 20 slot bags faster. But you could have just spent your tokens on 20 slot bags before then instead of getting more agony resist.
I was excited to hear about this change but they’ve pulled it off badly. The top rewards only seem to be in Arah and the harder paths in the other dungeons are just 1g for now it seems.
Longbow is more sustained dps than rifle. Rifle’s only really good for 1shotting afk people in WvW with a full adrenaline shot. Two hundred times. And posting it in a bad youtube montage. With awful music over the top.
For all other purposes, choose Longbow.
Though a Rifle/Longbow combo could be sneakily good. Rifle for the burst, then swap to bow for the superior auto attack.
(edited by Eulolia.2467)
I see you can spawn multiple lights at once if you get the adds onto the pool at exactly the same time. I don’t have this achievement yet but I figure you need to make use of that combined with some huge survivability to do it.
I think if they add anything that is supposed to be “extremely” hard they should give everyone the same health and abilities for it (vehicle fight!), otherwise it’s going to be a bring-this-class-and-spec-or-gtfo deal.
Are you on about the first boss? You don’t need to dodge anything at all, you can just run behind him. The wind up is like 4 seconds, it’s impossible to miss. If you circle strafe like a pro you notice this instantly.
I found it a lot easier to use greatsword instead of 1h/warhorn, since 3 skill acts as a free dodge and it’s also useful for mobility. Especially in p1 for picking up the lights. Just resist the temptation to hundred blades her and stay ranged p2, you will get chomped if you try to melee her. Longbow 3 is a lot of burst damage, if you don’t miss and you should use all the other longbow skills on CD too for the dots and blind.
(edited by Eulolia.2467)
Finally done it now, so obviously it’s now the easiest boss ever. The key for me was seeing the pattern to the AoE in phase 2 and then just focusing on not getting slowed.
Seriously though this boss is a bit ridiculous, they should at least fix the camera and make the floor not blend in with the circles so much. Also you need to waypoint and get the Hoelbrak buff every try.
Stability is pretty useless, what you need is 50 ways to remove Cripple.
Fancia.3746 I think you’re doing something horribly wrong on that Salazan boss. I seem to remember you don’t take any damage on that fight at all if you move out of the hot parts (but stay in the ring). Maybe you need to change your graphics to see which parts of the floor are safe and which aren’t (you have to kind of do a spiral to not run out of space)
You can get a buff from one of the NPCs near the waypoint that gives you endurance regeneration. I managed to get it to about 35% now and quit because it’s giving me a headache, it is more doable than I previously thought but still quite ridiculous, especially since you’re also fighting against annoying glitches with the game (stuck with a rubbish camera angle, boss getting untargeted and lag)
I must have tried this over 50 times. If I’d spent those tokens on fighting the other bosses (which are all easy) again for chests I’d be rich now
(edited by Eulolia.2467)
I never see the AoE’s coming, how am I supposed to dodge something I can’t see?
The aoes blending in with the floor is just another one of the troll portions of the event.
As for p2, dodging isn’t my problem, no window to dps the boss is.
Phase 1 is quite well-designed and doable every time once you learn it , it’s phase 2 that is the problem. It’s definitely not doable on my character. I can get to about 50% every time that I don’t mess up on dodge, but after that I am just dead from the normal melee damage of the boss (not the whirlwind). Can’t kite her because of her constant charge/cripple nonsense (which you can’t dodge because you need the dodges for the shadowfall circles), can’t stay toe-to-toe with her because she hits too hard. And why does she need to keep spawning the kamikaze illusions in that phase? I assumed there must be some trick to it like luring her into the circle to weaken her but I couldn’t find anything.
