I mean I don’t see where I argued to blow cds. What about swapping pets right before you heal is blowing a cd? What about healing after using a stunbreak/condi clear, IF you need to heal, is blowing a cd? If you take those as “blowing” cds then ok fine I’m not going to argue with that point anymore.

Puck is right here. You have to actively use other skills other than WHaO to solely gain the quickness your taking about. Your not using these skills for the situational advantage, your blowing them in conjunction off cool down to stack them onto your self. Using skills in such a way has never been part of any rangers rotation until now. To say this is normal game play is wrong.

Now normally I would agree with you that quickness stacking is overpowered. The thing is ranger really has low damage. We have high single hit modifiers but that is it. Attacking twice as long with quickness means nothing when you don’t do any damage.

You don’t have any damage traits aside from two handed training and bountiful hunter when doing the permanent stack build using NM WS and BM. Meaning even the fact that we can keep up permanent quickness, protection, swiftness and regen is irrelevant because every single class/build( aside from things like condition sword/dagger thief) will out dps you.

I dont get it.

Stacking swiftness and regen infinitely was possible before the WHaO buff(with as few as two shouts).

The build that some people are knee jerking about has plenty of counter play via

  • condition pressure.
  • boon corruption
  • boon strip
  • chill
  • CC/interrupt

But its too overbearing. Yet its ok for ele to have infinite sustain via permanent protection/ regen / 25 mights / fury/ swiftness and have diamond skin. Yet us having 2mins of regen and swiftness its out of the question were broken

Guard and mesmer has high quickness up keep and its team wide not solo yet were broken because you can keep it up solo 50% of the time and be binary because of it.

Warrior is allowed to actually have damage and not require precision, yet the moment we have high furry uptime were problematic.

I can’t see this response as anything but biased. Its not even effective(because the rest of base ranger sucks compared to the other classes bases), and has tones of counter play.

Honestly, this was an interesting change. I hope that anet comes back with a list of changes that actually improves ranger in other areas, since this change is to much apparently.

I am tired of hearing people complain about our mediocre at best class being to strong when we get anything remotely interesting(oddly these are usually the same people that you will find complaining that our class sucks and ask you to switch to something else). Then to see whatever new mechanic immediately taken away and nothing to fill the void. I really hope this trend of indian giver does not continue onto druid.

Telling that pet attack for 9k+ is normal is just proof how bad you are. Pets need to be brought down to spirit weapon and turet level. If they want to do awesome dmg then cure is to make their hp glas canon of 10k. Simple as that.

Before you embarrass yourself more..

This is easily achievable without might.

Remorseless is 25%
MoC is 50%
100% Crit on Opening Strike
Full Beastmastery 300 points to pets stats

Dog is now at 2200 power, 1800 precision, 350 ferocity.

Easy 9k on squishies.

This. Bet you he would also tell you that 20k mauls are impossible too. Which are also possible pre patch. People seriously don’t understand our burst potential. Ranger has tones of modifiers(SoH/MoC, SoW, Remorseless + crit damage) you can get as high as an 800% damage increase, for single hits. It isnt an issue tho as its very telegraphed that your doing this and easy to dodge.

Remades or not, you should be better than the other teams random. Focusing on what you can control is the only thing that will get your win % up. Yes there are games that from the start are setup to lose, and equally as many your set up to win.

50% is not unreasonable. I basically play only solo que (in fact when I do que with people we are worse off). I am not even really that good either and I am basically just under 50% stats wise

lol this is old news. If you played a power builds pre patch you could land 10-15k mauls(which is is just SoH/MoC maul) or a 10k rapid fire its really not that hard. Canines have been hitting 5-9k for a long time. Somewhere I have a screen shot of my fernhound downing a thief from full with sickem for 11k.

The only things they changed damage wise is they allowed us to copy boons to and fro pets. It just means we can actually use the might we stack(most of might stacking goes to pets). The damage potential was always there, just stacking might was a problem.

People that are complaining about the boon stacking don’t understand at all, go play some and wait till you encounter anyone with boon rip or corruption. You literally implode.

You can get permanent fury, regeneration and swiftness. Protection and quickness you can not and it is more like a kitten mini game blowing cool downs just to keep your buffs up.

You can have 50% uptime on quickness which is broken.

Yes you can and you can also have perma swiftness, regen, and protection too. doing so leaves you tanky with no damage. Being a fast hitting wet noodle is so OP.

This is getting sad. The real ranger mains are seriously trying to voice out our real feedback for druids, & there is SOO many other people coming in on our threads saying
“Im a Ranger main and i hate the druid blah blah ect.. "

I’m in map and I see people saying they hate rangers and how they go on the forums to troll pretending to give feed back on druids lol …..so I look at their account name and boom what do you know its them!

Yes some rangers might not be completely happy with every detail of the druid, but as far as reading the forums ( all classes) everyday for 3 years I can tell you one thing! The REAL Ranger mains look at what we feel can be better and *make/suggest real changes that are realistic & viable to all aspects of the game.

I Hope one day there is a way for serious main classes are able to put in feed back

example you have class forum where anyone can contribute and underneath
( class main forum) where accounts with a large amount of hours dedicated to the class can enter so we can give experience feed back)

Everyones opinion is an opinion. Saying that other peoples input is not valuable because of your biases is just selfish and disrespectful. In anything you cannot appease everyone. Someone will always have a quarrel. There is no such thing as an invalid opinion unless it basis its self on misinformation. Even if they are out to do damage, there are various reasons such as they struggle with certain aspects of our class and thats a valid opinion and bias. Everyone has different values opinions and visions of the class. OP you need to be more respectful and understanding of others.

There is a lot of people that have some valid concerns, be it that ranger wont get rewarded properly or only useful for the specialization. There are some people that are critical of other classes (and rightfully so). There are also people that don’t want play a heal focused spec. These are all opinions that go against they grain, and yes they are valid opinions.

That said there will be people as you stated that will be trolls and use misinformation to state feedback. If you must, prove these people wrong with facts and educate them on how to deal with things. If they don’t want to be helped then simply move on and don’t feed them anymore. It is the only way you can move forward.

I came to make a thread on exactly this. So far today I’ve played 15 games and 9 have had a leaver. Either on my team or the opponents. It is great we have more people now, but not so great that we have more leavers too. Currently there is no repercussions so people are just leaving as they please be it ranked, unranked. It really ruins the match for the other 9 players.

Its gotten to the point where I wont even que for unranked anymore because of the it’s ok attitude of leaving a ranked game. It’s begun spilling over to ranked.

I’ve gone as far as asking people via mail to not que ranked if they cannot commit the time or effort to finish a game. The general response I’ve gotten to these mails is “go kitten your self and anet wont do kitten”. This attitude is a problem.

Could anet please look into some sort of leaver penalties. Here are some options that could be put in place:

  • Put these leavers on an island where they can ruin games amongst them selves.
  • Give us a afk/leaver report feature. To many reports suspends you from spvp for x amt of time
  • Punish leaver rewards for x number matches (where x is the number of games on the account that they have left).
  • Punish daily PvP rewards for being marked as leaver(affects next days rewards).

Time to Educate about a "Druid"

I would like to thank Anet for how much work they are putting into these specializations. Most people seem to forget that most game developer’s throw their players’ opinions out of the window and just do what they feel is best for everyone. So thank you Anet (yea there’s some things that need to be fixed, but that comes with time).

Next, I’d like to say that I am highly disappointed some of the ranger community, heck some of the overall GW2 community, for just finding any opportunity to QQ when their expectations aren’t met. NEWS FLASH! You didn’t make this game, you don’t own it, and the dev’s don’t owe you anything. If you can’t appreciate the changes that are happening to your specific class, change classes, and if you don’t like any other class you can just play another game. There are plenty of open minded players to keep the community going, plus we don’t need any more negativity in these forums. Unless your posts are constructive, please refrain for adding any more BS to the long trail of poo that is the ranger forum.

I can’t fight stupidity with more stupidity, so it’s time to educate you people about what is going down with the druid. (I’d like to state that I am not an expert in any of these fields, all it took was for me to go to Google and do some research) Yea, its that kittening easy

Now to address the druid:

It seems like most people don’t see the connection between the term “druid” and “celestial”, and other are just angered that the druids is healing oriented. Well, I’m here to tell you all that there is a connection and that the druid being a healer is thematically appropriate.

Let’s start with the definition of “Celestial”:
1. of, relating to, or suggesting heaven or divinity
2. of or relating to the sky or visible heavens <the sun, moon, and starts are celestial>
3. otherworldly, eternal
Example of Celestial: Starts, planets, asteroids, and other celestial bodies
Used in a sentence: The late afternoon sunlight gave the room a celestial glow

In other words, celestial has everything to do with nature. “Nature” itself has nothing to do with JUST plants and animals. Nature is anything that is natural or not man-made. Thus celestial does in fact fit the theme of a natural druid/ranger.

Now, lets go to the history/definition of “Druid”:
“In ancient times a Druid was a philosopher, teacher, counselor and magician, the word probably meaning ‘A Forest Sage’ or ‘Strong Seer’. In modern times, a Druid is someone who follows Druidry as their chosen spiritual path.”

In other words Druidry is a religious following that revolves around nature.

During Druidry training, “you are taught thirteen rituals in addition to the eight Druid seasonal ceremonies. These rituals help to attune you to the natural word, to rhythms of the earth and moon, the sun and stars”

Thus Druidry does NOT only include a connection with Earth’s nature but also celestial nature (stars, sun, moon, other planets, the galaxy).

This is also why having a dps oriented Druid just does not fit. A Druid is a religious figure, almost like a priest. If anyone has ever played other MMORPGs, they will know that a priest is generally a healing/protection based class. As a result, the Druid’s overall healing theme fits perfectly.

I totally agree with you here on the connections. The common complaint is that Druid does not fit Anets lore of druid. Frankly I could care less. Aside from the whole celistal side of things, staff it’s self is thematically correct with druid. I think a lot of people are just getting bent out of shape over the celestial portion because its connected more to other types of lore.

Why cant you do both dps and heal, like being a hyrbid?

Its not like you lost access to other weapons and traits. Even the Staff 1 was pumping out some decent damage.

^ This. I don’t think people realize yet how all of our new skills will do decent damage as well as most of the utilities too along with their effects. Were going to have tones of access to daze, imobilize and cripple(which will be useful for breaker bars) which means MoC and pred onslaught are going to be really strong with druid.

Math wise you could be a dedicated daze bot doing lots of damage AND have decent heals.

Buff to healer specs on other classes?

Nope because until this announcement it has been drop ranger the class is useless.

A lot of people forget that engi, ele,guard and rev all have decent healing I think you’ll be able to get away without using a druid. I think ranger finally be in demand for groups when the curve is steep at first. After people adapt I think it wont be needed that much for pve.

WvW though druid is going to be sooo fun.

Thinking of something like this + druid tree

What is missing is staff for second weapon set, Glyph of equality and Glyph Alignment for utilities and Smokescale for second pet. Also superior Sigil of Paralyzation.

Druid traits:
Adapt – Primal echos
Master -Verdant Etching
Grandmaster – Ancient Seeds

Between MoC, mesmer rune, SoP and RoM were talking a 160% stun duration boost.
Glyph of equality and Lunar impact could potentially be 20 seconds of 5 man lockdown(say wut).

Heals would still be massive. Id imagine staff auto attack will still pack a decent punch and gs will hit kitten dazed targets with maul and swoop.

There is going to be so much more flexibility(the thing I love about current ranger) with these glyphs.

Shame there isnt a power/healing power/condition damage gear stat.

I am thinking CC and heals as well. Crusader/Celestial is going to be hands down the go to for in wvw/pvp druid.

Rune of the mesmer might be really solid stat wise and good for extending our daze skills. In theory you could get an 8 second technobabble/lunar impact. Basically 16 seconds to do what ever you want at that point.

My only wonder is does quick draw work with transform, because if it does, holy moly you could chain Lunar Impact and not even need technobable. Edit: lunar impact is going to get nerfed. 5 second cd with a potential 8 second daze… thats not even taking quick draw into account .

I think that for pve clerics/settlers is going to be main meta with sword(or axe)+dagger / staff. They said there will be times that you wont have enough dodges. Meaning our dagger is going to be worth more. Sword is still our top dps weapon.

We may have more lock down potential and heals compared to any other class.

Is it possible to beat a mesmer as a ranger?

It is a hard match up. Here are some things I have found that work:

  • Run away from them. Seriously it gives you the upper hand. In order to follow us, they have to blow important getaway cooldowns because they are generally pretty slow. When they do this, turn on them and go all out. In pvp you just rotate away from them, in wvw they shouldn’t kill you unless they get the drop on you, as your the one controlling when the fight happens.
  • immobilize makes them panic. They usually only have one way to get out. Taking drakehound, muddy terrain and entangled can keep them locked down even while invis. Taunt works well in addition to keep them locked up.
  • wilderness survial vs condi. Allows you to cleanse on demand with lr muddy terrian etc.
  • dont rely on counter attack from great sword. they will daze and then combo you. Its better to set up to dodge an f1-4 skill by being ready to lr or dodge out of the burst.
  • recognize a reset. If they go invis for an extended period they have reset, you need to, too.

Ranger with 2 min perma swiftness in WvW???

Ok I just never see any other ranger in WvW with so much swiftness. I’ve seen like up to 30 sec stacks and all, but a constant 2 min upkeep was making me scratch my head.

That ranger is probably over invested in swiftness, his/her build would be better off with less swiftness uptime and other stuff.

Not really, because its full up time of regen and swiftness. As other people mentioned just guard and we heal as one with one trait in beast mastery and you can keep both buffs up permanently. It still allows you to focus in all kinds of other directions.

If you run clerics and soldiers runes its actually a really good support build for a group.

Burn vs Thiefs

Dodging or other forms of evasion work to a minor extent.
Especially against Ele’s and Guard’s Purging flames it’s possible to dodge the ring/line of fire to prevent getting absolutely ridiculous Burn Stacks in a single motion.
Outside of that, there’s nothing aside of long periods of kiting.

I had a Burn Guard getting real mad at me because I wouldn’t come close to him (or his Trap Ranger pug ally).
I had several pugs of my own server die to them in seconds and I couldn’t help them too much outside of Shortbow Kiting. It came down to a stalemate because I wasn’t stupid enough to get killed, while they slowly but surely got worn down up to the point where they backed out of the fight and stooped down to getting all salty (partying to tell me how useless I was and how much of a kitten that I was for not rezzing my pug allies (mind you, my pug allies got cleaved instead of stomped so I’d get instagibbed upon getting close by traps + burn) and so on and so forth).

TL:DR you can beat them though extensive kiting while maintaining ranged pressure. While applicable to WvW, it doesn’t work for PvP really.
Best thing you can do is to take them out in a single burst during a teamfight when they’re low health and out of defensive utilities.
Evading also works to some degree to avoid the first brunt of the assault.

^this. its your job to +1 and rotate. The best thing you can do is stay alive and apply pressure to keep them there or go somewhere else, which allows someone else to come deal with them.

Yes and roaming condi mesmer relies on dire gear, condi duration food, perplexity runes. All of which are outside of the current pvp system. Aside from that particular build, condi mesmer is just as susceptible to being cleansed and dodged just like in pvp.

Its like we are not even playing the same kitten game!

One of 2 things is wrong wiht this, or both more likely.
1. You do not know what the word rely means.
2. You underestimate the condi spamming nature of condi mesmer. Some classes(hell most without gimping their own builds to hell) CAN not cleanse enough and as consistently as the conditions are being applied.

1. Your right poor choice of a words. Let me rephrase that: condition mesmer’s confusion, torment, bleeding, and burning stacks can just as easily be cleansed and dodged just like in pvp. I will agree with you that mesmer condi output is more consistently than other classes.

2. Gimping your build is walking into a fight without the tools to deal with your opponent. Not taking cleanses for a fight is one of them.

Your right it does sound like were playing two completely different games. I think that speaks volumes considering the majority of your complaints are that there is nothing that can be done in x situation yet plenty of people offer you advice on how to adjust or what to do in those situations. Then you move onto another point completely disregarding the previous points and not applying them to other situations. Sooner or later your going to realize its no ones fault but your own that you cannot deal with another’s build until anet adjusts them if they feel it is unbalanced.

PvP does not have this problem because of the balanced numbers, the lack of condition food, certain runes, and lack of certain armor sets.

ROAMING is invested with Condi PU mesmers. Because it quite literally facerolls most other builds at this point. The exception is an extremely well played DD ele.
There is no balance in zerging, so it literally shouldn’t be discussed as its impossible to keep conditions on your enemy with so many possible RANDOM cleanses.

And wich skills/trait you change to “manage yourself” against a heavy burst team? Dont you just switch amulet from berserker to marauder or soldier if you see 2 shatter/dps mesmers? Are you even totaly change your build like you are doing against condi groups?
You know what is the main used food in wvw? the -40% condition duration… guess why

I change my build every match up unless its basically mirror of the previous tho. Its called adapting. Why would anyone run the same thing over and over again unless they were matched up against the same thing over and over again. But since you asked for specifics:


For my ranger in particular, I already run wilderness survival I may swap qz for muddy terrain I already play with LR, TU, entangled and run valk. I may also swap in bear. That’s about all that changes.

For my thief, I’ll swap a few things, Bountiful theft to tricks, pick up SoA and Haste. I am usually already running sword dagger, withdraw and marauder. Boon strip is still available via sword 3.

For warrior I run a bunker build it already has cleansing ire and brawlers recovery. For a condition fight, you can run signet of stamina, shake it off or berserker stance.

For necro nothing changes as its specifically set up for fighting meta ele’s.

For ele already run earth water arcane. Can trips are too good to pass up so I already have them. I might change Stone heart for diamond skin.

The rest of the classes I’ll admit I don’t play enough to comment on but I imagine just by looking at skills and specializations that they have the similar options available.

So no not really on the whole I have to change my entire build to adjust to conditions, I have made my builds to deal with both conditions and power based builds(you should always have the tools or cordination to deal with both). Adjusting to deal with a team being polar to one side is a small change.

k so, I’ll agree with you both that burning application is somewhat over bearing on certain classes but aside from those 2 offenders (burn guard and ele) condition damage is weaker than power builds for two main reasons:

  1. Condition damage as I have gone over numerous times here is cleanse able at any point in time during the encounter you can erase their build up.
  2. Condition damage application for the most part is avoidable by not steeping onto fields or by dodging that skill that applies conditions to as you would with a power skill.

Conditions by all accounts have twice as many options at your disposal to deal with compared to the just outright power damage. Now I do agree with you that new or lower skilled players will struggle against condition damage for two reasons:

  1. Many players do not know how or when to cleanse a condition. This only really comes with playtime experience and knowing the limit of your build.
  2. Many players do not recognize the animations of condition skills. Therefore they cannot dodge or avoid them. This is mainly because power based builds have been so prevalent for so long.

To anyone that struggles with certain builds/classes with conditions(this isn’t exclusive to condition base builds btw) go play them. You’ll learn very quickly the ins out of the build that is giving you so much trouble and often realize that after they burn their cool downs most of these builds have nothing but an auto attack for the next 20 seconds. If you can figure out which two skills it usually is that you need to dodge or cleanse, your opponent for the most part becomes substantially weaker and easier to deal with.

This is why its considered a learn to play issue. You do not under stand the opponent your playing against and/or how to manage your skills for the matchup.

I have to say, thanks for trying to do something nice for us. Sorry it blew up and then we blew up. Really.

The meta events them selves were interesting however, due to lack of loot, exp and karma they individually feel unrewarding. Which makes a large portion of the time your doing the event feel unrewarding. The mechanics of the meta events at first were interesting however, due to the grinding nature(lots of effort little reward) to get the rewards they feel like nothing more than an annoyance.

The event’s reward system where you get your loot at the end and is based off how many events you participate in does not work and promote a tag & run style of gameplay. Which results in a community fighting each other not community working towards a common goal to get rewards. The above statement is frustrating players so much that they are outright arguing and calling each other out in map chat.

Reward wise, even after the fix for players not getting rewards, the current reward scale is abysmal. When you start doing the math you realize:

  • Each event lasts 30 minutes
  • Each event has a 30 minute break before the next.
  • 1 hour break after each cycle
  • 15 tokens is the max reward.
  • Up to 60 tokens for daily.

This means one cycles worth of play is 4 hours. With only an hour and a half of it being actual event game play. Meaning over half your time is wasted. Now I personally try to go to sw to make some of my wp gold back between breaks but there is a lot of people just waiting around for the events. Players are spending more time waiting on events then playing them which is never fun.

Then the rewards from the events them selves the tokens: at most you can only get 15 per event, 45 per cycle and an additional 60 daily. To get one of the armor skins, your looking at minimal 11(including the dailies) events(or 3 cycles), which instantly equates to 14 hours of game play just for one reward. Which is unrealistic for a daily goal.

Personally I feel no more than 4 hours should be spent to get a decent reward. This allows your causal crowd and your hardcore crowd to all get rewarded. This includes your new players who have to figure out what is going on and how the game works at the same time.

The entire time I played the event my emotions cycled from: stressed out and then frustrated and finally disappointed when the rewards are handed out. I want to do the events, but I don’t feel like I am being rewarded or contributing really, I am pushing my self to try and get rewards. Frankly I don’t think I’ll be able to get a single thing I wanted(toxic shoulders and gloves). Especially when I have plans this weekend.

The whole experience has made me and my fellow guild mates give up on the event. As much as I want the loot its unrealistic for me to try. I hope that this does not become a common thing with future events, and in particular HoT rewards.

I like to be challenged, but not in a grind countless back to back hours in a short period of time. I’ve been there done that with korean MMO’s. I picked up gw2 to get out of that style of game play and events. Please in the future challenge players mechanically, not by how much time they can spare.

I don’t disagree at all.
The mechanics behind stacking that much burning so quickly is whats ridiculous.

So let me get this straight; just for the record:

  • Your complaining about condition damage.
  • You continue to rely on a single form of condi clear that you have already established to be unreliable.
  • You expect condi players to not be a threat when not taking tools to deal with them.
  • You dont think that players should be allowed to climb the ladder because they use condition damage.
  • You refuse to take any advice on various skills to cleanse conditions.
  • You blame high ping for delays in skills and use this as a reason not to use the above skills.
  • You agree that stacking up condi takes time. Which means you have time to cleanse it.
  • You expect anet to change the flow/balance of the game because of the above.
  • You expect to do well in a competitive game mode with no reaction time, foresight or adaptability.

Seriously, my self included people have given you some solid advice. You refuse to take any of it. I don’t know what to type or say anymore other than good luck.

Honestly though, even after the fix for players not getting rewards, the current reward scale is abysmal and leaves a sour taste in my mouth. To get one of the armor skins, your looking at minimal 12 meta events and at an hour a piece your talking roughly 27 hours for a matching set. Which is unrealistic within four days.

I mean sure there will be people that get these rewards don’t get me wrong, but a large percentage of your player base is gated from getting the rewards simply by having lives. It’s really disappointing and frustrating when you release interesting rewards that are realistically unobtainable which is saying something because I play roughly 6 hours a day.

So i just got jumped by an Engi out of Toss Elixir S with a crate.
That single crate dropped 15 stacks of burning + poison on me thanks to flame turret and incendiary ammo and probably IP as well.
I immediately pop Blinding powder to breakstun and gain invis to clear it BUT……….
Surprise poison cleared instead. Now i have to wait 3 seconds before i get another condi clear.

I was down by the second tick.

How is this considered skill?
Had i dodged the invis crate somehow, IP and Incendiary and doom proc would still have hit me. Still not much i can do.

So explain to me SOMEONE how this is considered healthy for the game? Because really.

You have already complained that SE is not working for you but you continue to rely on it.

Run one of the many other condi clears thief has access to( ShadowStep, Sword 2, Tricks, SoA, Generosity sigil, Purity sigil, Pain response trait).

It honestly sounds like you refuse to run anything but your planned build and want things changed/adjusted because they do not fit your play style(inb4 your a d/p cookie cutter thief). If this is the case you have a LTP issue, considering you have access to having every single one of your utilities to cleanse conditions + a weapon that has condi clear built in.

Also thieves. I think you don’t understand how ineffective Shadows embrace has become. 1 condition every 3 seconds, NOT damaging conditions. if 6+ stacks of burning isn’t removed with the initial clear after stealthing, 3 seconds is more than enough to screw the thief over

Thieves, warrior, Engis (although elixirs are keeping them relatively ok) and rangers do not have near as much cleanse.

Ranger/Theif main chiming in.

Ranger has plenty of condi clear via wilderness survial. In fact my all my rangers utilities(save SoH) and elite all clear condi (TU, LR, QZ or MT & Entangle). Yes you are somewhat piggon holed into it but they are decent skills anyways. To say ranger has no condi clear is a huge understatement.

Another option for ranger is going shouts and taking runes of the soldier(which works very well with settlers or clerics). Guard and SoTP can keep 100% upkeep of regen and swiftness for your team while having cleanses basically always up.

As for theif, if you should be running signet of agility the moment you suspect condi builds. Shadow step clears 3 conditions. Tricks if traited for cleanse conditions. Sword 2 has condi clear. Then there is shadows embrace. Thief has a lot of tools to get rid of conid. Your more than likely only using SE.

If your struggling to cleanse condi on either of those classes you have a LTP issue or your refusing to take tools that you need for more damage.

All of that said tho, burning in particular is very overbearing due to the high application that two classes have. I do agree that the number stack application for certain skills needs to be looked at.

OK LISTEN! the bug is only on Khylo map if i remebre it right and its there since realese of the game , was reported multiple times and nothing happend to fix that. Atm ppl are complaining on necros becouse they have no idea how to deal with them , they face tank every single hit , they keep attacking when necro have spectral armor up and things like that. Well guys its time to lern few things about necros. Bigest problem for reaper is range , every single decent ranger or mesmer shoul be able to kill reaper , ofc if he knows what to do. Its funny becouse for the past 3 years necro was basicly free kill and now when necro actually can stand on point and do some dmg ppl cry that its broken :P

I understand what your trying to say here. I know what necro/reapers skills do. I have one. I agree with you that some people are just here to complain and not learn. I have no problem with necro being strong and sustainable. It has weaknesses which are ranged and bust.

I have a problem with necro being unfair because of a bug and being able to sustain endlessly because of said bug.

The new map has the same issues as khylo with breakables, the gates on foefire and the new map also can be abused for the bug.

Well if you can’t tunnel vision a necro I to the ground with out thinking about it then the universe is out of kilter. Didn’t you know that?

Actually after doing some research its not reaper that is the problem with their sustain, it a bug being abused with life force generation and healing while in reaper shroud.

So I retract my statement about soliders/valk/etc and the kit being the problem. The problem is dagger and greatsword can be abused to generate life force from objects that are not breakable.

If the life force generation bug is fixed its more than likely reaper is fine. On certain maps, one of them being the new map; reaper can be basically un killable.

There is no need to introduce class crippling mechanics against only one or two classes because some players refuse to use the tools given to them.

I totally agree with you on not crippling a class with a mechanic as the one suggested but really what tools?

We have two reliable reveals. Engineer has a reveal trait and we have the stealth disruption trap. Reverent and dragon hunter will also have reliable reveals but for the current game they dont count.

The trap which I know your going to point too requires 10 supply which a rather large amount and 9/10 if your flipping anything that is being defended, you will have no supply after flipping. Which might I add even if you do have the supply and detect a mesmer, they can blink & run away for 5 seconds and then resume stealthing. Then your back at square one.

The only realistic way to deal with stealth right now unless your an engi is aoe spam and hope your hitting the mesmer(s). Which frankly is unfun, and uninteresting combat that does nothing other than frustrate both parties.

Is Ele Base Damage Too High?

I was talking with an Ele friend and he said that if he takes Marauder he does only marginally increased direct damage when compared to Cele.

The issue here is that celestial is very overstated in pvp and ele can make use of all the stats and arguably better than any other class. You could adjust it, but it would just hurt other builds and classes. For the most part celestial isnt that much of a problem on the other weapon sets than d/d because the skills on the other sets have very appropriate cooldowns in relation to what the skills do.

He’s talking about skills, not actual base stats. Skills have different base damage values and scale ratios.

Your only bases are weapon damage and your opponents armor. Unless your talking about condi damage in which case yes there are bases that can be adjusted.

It’s a class that can deal the direct damage of a berserker[because of might], the condition damage of a condition build and survive like a bunker at the same time.

Drastically Reduce the BAST FINISHER skills of the Elementalist. Let them be AoE but no more Blast Finishers!

Nail on the head. They could adjust the kit in a number of ways, taking away blasts, extending the cooldowns skills or just on blasts, adjusting that arcane trait that blasts on dodge roll… etc so that dagger in particular can’t blast as much.

The issue really isnt stealth, for inside keeps at least. The issue is poor tools to reveal stealth. Really the only two tools we have are engies trait, the costly reveal trap, and soon we will have dragon hunters reveal. Sic em does not count because if the mesmer is already stealthed its useless.

Stealth trap needs to be lower to even be considered by most.
Revealed applied by other players needs to be punishing not some 5 sec bogus. Anet should try something like 10-15secs and adjust if to overbearing.

GS auto hits like a wet fish

Maul with the right set-up can outspike backstab. This statement on its own is completely false btw.

I actually know DeceiverX.8361 and he roams with my ranger. The setup he is referring to is what I run(zerk weps rest valk). My highest hit so far is 21k in wvw on a non upleveled and geared mesmer.

The issue isnt getting the damage up there. Its very doable, the problem is landing such damage, reliably and surviving. This type of build has an issue of being binary, you either delete or get deleted or somehow kite for 40 seconds to get cooldowns and try again. It is also pretty bad at zerg combat being basically glass.

If my math is correct, which it has not been wrong so far, the damage is can be much higher than my rage setup with a scholar setup(maxing out at 26.6k mauls on a glass target and 17k on a 3k armored target in wvw) but mind you its impossible to use in any real situation.


Now back to the thread. GS is a burst/utility weapon. It’s auto attack chain sucks, and the only redeeming quality of is its evade. GS auto attack needs to cleave 5 targets not three. It could benefit from a damage increase.

Gs has lower damage skills comparatively to other classes but much lower cooldowns. Gs as a whole is a utility/burst weapon. It’s dps frankly sucks unless the period of damage is within 10 seconds.

Rangers burst does not inherently come from the weapon, but stacking modifiers that we have available for single hits you can get as high as a 8.1x modifier.

I wonder if you wouldn’t get more out of Rage runes. You have plenty of vitality and the slight crit loss seems like a fair trade for the extra 5% damage. Both sets of runes are pretty cheap, might be worth trying out.

Havent tried rage runes, will have to look into them the only thing modifer wise that I so far have found is scholar runes with a similar setup. However its impractical, because you will dip below 10% hp

After doing the math, Rage is roughly 5% less crit damage wurm at full ascended cases. So the difference well made up for with the bonus. Rage runes win out in sustained fights. However in any build that uses exotic Valkyrie wurm is actually higher damage. For the time being I’d rather have the higher crit dmg % and that hp pool until I can make the difference up with ascended gear. Thank you for your post and idea. I will be switching to these once I have a full ascended set of armor.

If I were to jump over to calv I would hands down choose rage runes.

  • Pack are really solid, I used them before switching to wurm. I would recomend them those most.
  • Holbrek and strength runes are really good if you plan to use brutish seals and SoTP.
  • Ogre are also a very good power stat and have increased damage like rune of rage
  • Dolyak would give you insane regen

Another support based idea but you could take soliders runes; taking resounding timber and wilderness survival would allow you to have full bar of condi clear.

I already have these celestial on other char, that’s why I put 3 ascended ones. And the exotic ones are account bound. Is too expensive to make ascended equips, I’ll make or buy exotics (carrion).

Is soldier/dire mix better than celestial? With celestial I have more crit chance and crit damage as well.

The dire/solider mix has lower crit % and crit damage. The difference between the two is about 100 power and toughness, and 1k hp vs 11% crit chance and 20% crit damage. At 19% with celestial I wouldn’t be relying on crits.

If you can set up the interrupts then MoC would be better. However brutish seals is more reliable. MoC is burst, brutish is sustained. The choice in a build like this is purely preferential.

Carrion is viable but not outstanding, as you lack armor. SB is truely a lacking weapon, axe/torch is way better. You would be better off using a sword/dagger or a power weapon(GS or LB) in place of SB.

Carrion does provide you with a nice vit boost, however without toughness you are just a damage sponge. Krait really gives you no sustain and you already have tones of damage being hybrid. You would get more mileage out of rune of undead or scavenging(both are cheap too!) and you would get more general condi damage out of the set.

Bleeding is ok, but burning is way more powerful at this point in time, your torch OH combined with entangle should melt people. With that I would suggest picking up more burning by swaping QZ for flame trap. as you could lock burst someone down with just bonfire and it.

Trait wise:

  • you would be better off talking ambidex over refined toxins, as you will get more up time from it.
  • Additionally, I highly recommend trappers expertise, which would allow you to kite more with spike trap as well as get more of them out. If you do pick up flame trap or healing spring you would get longer duration’s out of them as well.
  • LOYF is a good trait, you may however want to test quickdraw with you sets at various points. Being able to keep bonfire up continuously basically forces your opponent off of you. Quick draw also allows you to be more flexible with your skills in other weapon sets (such as double swoop for kite, or LB rapidfires.

Is the rune at least the good one ? PS: I used exo, not ascended, maybe that’s the difference in stats ?

I used everything that increases power, I don’t see how to increase my damage further :/

The second one is closest.

I wonder if you wouldn’t get more out of Rage runes. You have plenty of vitality and the slight crit loss seems like a fair trade for the extra 5% damage. Both sets of runes are pretty cheap, might be worth trying out.

Havent tried rage runes, will have to look into them the only thing modifer wise that I so far have found is scholar runes with a similar setup. However its impractical, because you will dip below 10% hp

Compared to warrior or guard ranger gs is very low damage.

on a skill compaired to skill basis yes because Warroir or Guards don’t have Remorseless or Signet of the wild to use .

the combination of Burst is different

warroirs / guardains use 2-3 weapon skills to Burst a consistant amount each and every time does not require anyting else apart from the required cooldowns on the weapons.

rangers use a combination of 1Maul+ or Path of scars + SotW/SotH/pet timed f2’s and or Mobility CC to improve the damage withint that duration of Cripple/chill/taunt/fear ect for that window is when Maul does exponential damage and the Return two hits of Path of scars adds onto that the Maul+Pos combination does more damage more often than other classes Bursts and at that cost it is weaker when its compaired on a skill vs skill basis.

this class relys on everything the class uses , while other classes can burst while only using 25% of the builds skills or Utitlities 2 weapon attacks+1 mechanical attack to deal the same amount as the rangers burst at the cost of a longer cooldown and more constricted Situations, where a Ranger can Burst anytime Any place Anywhere be it Ranged or Melee.

^ Someone who gets it. Rangers burst is in the modifiers. No other class can get a 6-7 times multiplier on a skill. It doesn’t matter when your base coefficients are in the 1.2-1.0, when it gets that amp, you hit like a truck. The hard part is actually landing it.

Hardly anyone runs it because it is quite low damage. GS burst is weak/expensive, and sword has none.

GS does have burst but it is very expensive and to an extent predictable. It has low sustained damage which is where it struggles.

The issue with GS mainly is all of its skills that actually do damage are very telegraphed. Landing any of its skills in an amped matter requires some form of outplay. Which many argue no good player will allow you to do.


@ op what your most likely encountered was a condi/power hybrid ranger. Axe is a ranged weapon.
