What OP lacks is perspective from a roamer/dueler.

Which could very easily write a very similar paragraph as you did; replacing “duelist” with “zergling” and “duels” with “zerg”.

Many of these people either don’t have large enough guilds to make impacts on the map, or don’t enjoy zerg fights. I am one of them.

Personally I enjoy fighting a 1 on 1 or 2 on 1 fight against good opponents. I don’t really see the problem as stomping still gives points, I can call out enemy movements in map chat and do things like tick siege etc while dueling.

How do duels happen? If I have a close match often I seek out my opponents for a few other fights. Or we may meet at objective with ring up.

Duels are about personal improvement. Being able to fight an equally skilled single opponent or outplaying multiple opponents (within reason) is a measure of growth small scale players. It’s why it’s important to them and why it will never stop.

Rifle Spellbreakers a thing?

I still run good ole base rifle warrior for roaming(arms, defense, discipline) sometimes. It’s fine.

On the beta weekend I fooled around with the idea of swapping arms with strength and discipline with spell breaker. It worked pretty well. You can get a pretty solid amount of sustain with might makes right, adrenal health and healing signet. Damage wise it was decent. it was def another style of play that I look forward to revisiting.

The issue with rifle spell breaker, or any variant of spell breaker not using dagger is that burst skills count as teir 1 which are not great damage. Until they fix that issue, base warrior will prob be better in regards to rifle and likely the same for other weapons.

Whats good: Shortbow skills feel unique and enjoyable, the trait lines feel like they have meaningful choices for a condi build. the f2 skill makes sense. I could see this and scorge not requiring a PS warrior to sustain a group.

What’s meh: Shortbow numbers. I understand its a range weapon, but I really find my self still just swapping to mace axe to get out the numbers. Part of this is the bleed dmg increase traits don’t seem to work.

F3 skill reads like it would be amazing but between the cast time and the projectile speed, it feels like the only person I am going to hit is someone afk or a pve mob dumb enough to stand there. It’s so telegraphed I would say too telegraphed for the cost in a pvp senario.

What has problems:

The legend. I don’t know how else to say this, but the stance feels totally disjointed from the weapon and trait lines. There is no condi support, no condi damage. It’s all power based wells with an hp pool that is easily cleaved down. These need changes and I don’t mean “up the damage” this is more of get rid of the hp pools and call them what they are… wells (and convert one to some kind of condi damage).

The heal either does not work or is so underwhelming I don’t notice it and yet this is the only only skill of value on the whole bar it’s the only one you can rely to at least do something in larger scale play, and that is stunbreak.

F4 skill. now I get the intent is to augment the ventari to provide an alacrity alternative to chrono. The issue I find with this is it means your stuck with staff. Staff is really not great atm. Sword shield at least provided some vuln, higer dps while allowing you to heal with shield on glint.

Sb as 900 range weapon: I feel that in many cases it would be more efficient to use axe to get into the fray and use mace. Sb as a whole has lower damage, but does not really fix condi rev’s problem of being kited/hit from afar. Hammer is all 1200 range. Sb needs to be the condi equivalent in terms of range.

Sb 3: this skill is very problematic at closer range.

As someone playing against deadeye, I am not upset about the burst, the damage the range. I am upset about the direction players are taking it.

The SA mark stow firing squads are just not enjoyable to encounter.
The people endlessly porting away with #4 is just shortbow 2.0
The stealth camp fire is real. It’s the exact interaction no one wants to play against.

As someone who has played it, it plays out very binary. You either land the pot shot(s) and get the kill or you get caught with your pants down and die near instantly. I don’t feel that it’s healthy gameplay, and ultimately is going to get core theif nerfed is many aspects.

Ultimately I find it fun to play, just not enjoyable to play against.

Feedback on Spellbreaker

I am actually really enjoying the spec. It takes some getting used to but you can really control fights and chase people pretty good without greatsword.

The only thing that I’ve really struggled fighting against is s/f weaver, but that is just barrier/invuln nonsense.

The damage is bursty. It’s not sustained dps. That’s fine. It’s a pvp spec. We already have a number of good pve builds (ps gs power, and ps condi).

I totally agree with the op Full counter feels good and has a decently telegraphed animation. I like it.

The burst skill on dagger and the #2 skill I see a lot of people complaining about to slow, or too weak. I’ve found it to be very much the opposite. #2 is just the right range to chase ppl with swiftness, but allows targets to escape if they are using superspeed.

Many people are also complaining about dagger oh 4 and I don’t really understand why. I’ve been able to land 15ks on it in spvp. It does good damage, you just have to time it against your opponets animations. Dagger 5 again I don’t get what peoples issue is with this skill, its a great utility skill and does good damage. Coming from being a ranger this is whirling defense 2.0

I don’t find any of the utilities other than the heal, or the elite to be appealing. Maybe it speaks to how broken stances are. I do have to say this elite spec is absolutely insane with bulls charge.

As for traits, I managed to scrap together a pretty nice sustain but bursty build with str(bbm)/def(mtm)/spellbreaker(tbb).

The healing from might makes right, adrenal health and middle master trait work amazingly together. It really allows you to get in and commit to sustaining in the fray.

The pull is a nice interesting mechanic. It gives me two choices, I can choose to cc them by running away and the hopping back to them as they are knocked down, or stay in range and build that sweet sweet might(which turns into endurance + hp).

I feel that spell breaker has a lot of give and take. Which is how classes should be balanced.

Did you actually test it? Can you provide some numbers? No? What a surprise …

Actually I’ve run both builds. I don’t have any video content of either. So there is ultimately nothing I can prove other than tell you to run the builds your self or fight you with them. I would lean heavily to the condi build being the stronger of the two from experience.


CoR was roughly 7-8.5k crits on the above build
EE was 10k on a stationary target, 20k on a moving target.
Hammer AA were roughly 2.5k
Mace AA in same time was roughly 1,5k stationary 3k moving.

This was with 15 generated might and EtD up

However, I am willing to put my money where my mouth is, I can arrange a transfer and bring a dire thief, ranger or rev to face your choice of soldiers of build. Loser eats my transfer costs and settles which is objectively superior in wvw. I am generally pretty mediocre as a player so the fight should be pretty even. If you are “good” at the game it would objectively prove my point further.

I used ranger shortbow autoattack + poison volley against the 1 million hp golem (25 might, fury, quickness as I did not want to spend too much time at the golem) and soldier gear actually slightly outperformed dire gear.

This is anecdotal first of all. Video proof is something that’s need to prove a statement like this fact. I can just as easily say I did the same thing and the result was condition damage was stronger. There is so many other nit picks I could make, but ultimately your position is rendered moot…

Why moot? The quote right above.

Power gets a 50% modifier at base, and then you increase crit chance by 20% using fury.

That right there is an effective 10% modifier. Equal to having a sigil of malice in discrepancy. It’s nothing huge, but you example doesn’t paint the reality of the picture.

A fair comparison is the extremely optimized builds.

I would say condi has issues but the damage type it’s self is not the sole problem.

One of the problems is the shift in kits that came with hot. There are so many panic/reset options. Many of them on auto proc traits. This makes battles go on longer. Which is advantageous to condition damage because as the fight goes on; opponents will eventually run out of tools to deal with them.

Which leads to application, there are a number of skills that have very high applications of stacks on short cooldowns that are often also aoe. This is where condi removal and resistance plays a part. I think its intended that you won’t be able to dodge every key condi applicator skill, which is why there is good access to condi clear on many classes. However there are some very problematic condi skills.

(an example of the above is rev’s echoing interruption. A skill thats on an 8 sec cd, but has the aoe application up to 9 targets [3 targets per blast] which on just a dire build works out to be about 6k-11k of pressure per target if not cleansed and even if it is, in 8 more seconds you have to dodge or cleanse again)

The other thing that came with HoT is more stats. And no I don’t just mean types, I mean physically more stats. Sets like maruader and crusader allow a decent mix for power builds but not optimal. They are always missing something or have unwanted stats. Unlike trailblazers. Which truly gives you the ideal stat spread, and that super effective expertise stat.

On expertise, I still don’t understand why this stat is not patched. It’s twice as effective compared to the power relationship. A power build must invest in enough precision for ferocity to be worth while; to then get the damage increase from ferocity. Contrastingly expertise is just a solid gain with a cap that isn’t easy to reach. Expertise allows you to not only lets you not worry about having to split stat points, but does not rely on chance to apply the bonus either. It’s a free damage modifier.

When players abuse all of the above together, thats when condi becomes a problem. It’s happening often currently both in solo and large scale. Honestly it makes the game feel slow paced, unintuitive and not rewarding.

Many of us never in our wildest dreams would think about a possible change like this. I am glad about this.

However, I know for sure that I have reforged an entire set of ardent in the mystic forge(minus the gloves)… Many others have most likely done this as well or with various pieces. So my question is, is there anything that can be done about this or is the progress essentially lost?

I understand that some players would prefer a different manner of communication. I wanted to share the comments above to show that silence does not point to inaction or neglect or indifference.

I don’t mean to to toot my own horn here, or for this to come across as snide but anet’s lack of communication is the root of the problem. I feel this way because I’ve seen it before. Over a year ago I made a post that basically outlined the same problem that is happening here. Sure the post was aligned with the ranger subsection at the time, but here it is again just for the record.

The moment we feel we are being ignored and not having a conversation about the classes with anet, is the same moment we go off into nonsensical unconstructive posts. Please do something about breaking the current pattern we have in regards with communication about the ranger class.

A year ago it was ranger section had some pretty appalling threads. I won’t say it was my post specifically but eventually when the devs started communicating again that subsection did have some good discussions for a while and many positive things came of it.

I’ll reiterate. The base of players here don’t feel that anything they post constructive or not will go anywhere so why bother putting any effort into posts or suggestions. That’s what happening here. People aren’t seeing any progress being made with WvW nor do they see any kind of results from constructive communication. They post feedback, the community has a discussion and nothing happens. People become jaded or apathic and the result is the low quality posts that you are complaining about. People have nothing left to do but call each other names and bicker on here.

If you want quality discussion with the community you got to realize it takes two sides to have a conversation. We all understand MO’s no talking about ships that are not sailing approach, but it comes with consequences this is one of them. If you want things to change here, then I implore you to seek out MO about dialog with the wvw community. I feel it is the only way things start to change for the better around here.

Is what I am currently running. I used to run rune of the undead which gives an ample amount of toughness in addition to more condi damage. Which I ran jalis with. I am also debating getting runes of thorns to ramp up damage while being kited.

I find using Inspiring Reinforcement to be “clunky” and frustrating in WvW.

“Create a stone road that damages and weakens foes as it’s created. Once it’s created it will pulse, granting stability to allies.”

When you have people running you down; you have to cast it, wait for it and then make sure you are running on it.

Seems like more of a pve skill than a pvp skill; as pvp and WvW are very mobile – always moving.

That’s why I don’t like the tablet build.

How else can I get stability as a Rev? I think there’s a rune for when you are under 20% health – but by then I am usually already dead.

Any other ways I can get stability so I can use “Enhanced Bulwark” out of the Herald line.

What Ventari is missing

What they need to do to fix the clunkyness of the tablet is very simple:

I will give another game character example, Oriana, from league of legends. She carry a metal ball and throw it in places, and then use skill that come from the metal ball, exactly like the Ventari tablet.
So why Ventari fell so cluncky and she not ( not arguing between two differente game genres)??
Its because when the tablet get out of range it just dissapear, but for orianna when she get out of the range of the metal ball it teleports to the top of her head and float there, she can still use skills without moving the ball so it will come from the top of her head where the ball is.

I totally agree. this would be much better and the legend does suffer because of the clunkyness you describe.

That cool down on Ventari’s Will need to be decreased, as well as tablet movement speed need to be increased.

Energy Cost on all Tablet skills need reduced by 30%.

The Range on Ventari’s Will need to be increased.

Protective Solace need to provide a defensive/ support boon to allies in the area to make it useful against non ranged fighters. Currently its just good for light field. I say a passive Heal/Protection tick.

Purifying Essence need to convert some conditions to boons, or reverse for enemies.

Tranquil Benediction need to also make Rejuvenating Assault and Punishing Sweep do more damage and heal nearby allies a percentage of that damage. Both chain skills so it balances itself out.

Invoking Harmony effect need to be merged into Selfless Amplification. Because it doesnt benefit the class much 50% of the time. This should be replaced by another support trait that make all your blast finishers heal nearby allies regardless of field type.

I have to ask, have you played ventari since the patch? I honestly think all of our costs are very fair. Ventari’s will is free at 5 energy. By the time the full animation finishes we are already refunded. Its a free heal every 3 seconds. I would even argue that natural harmony is a little too cost effective, being that its a full heal for pretty much every low-medium health pool class at 20 energy.

I totally agree that the tablet could be more responsive and that staff does need some work. However, the rest of the suggestion you have I find to be way over the top.

Why should the buffed version of the previous meta include kitteneless class?

Offensively we didnt get any buffs(other than much needed fixes for the mace and axe). I don’t think anet want us to be a main dps class, instead a support class. The changes to ventari are huge in the support role for both wvw and pve. Moving the tablet is now basically free, and roughly a 3k heal every 3 seconds. The changes with natural harmony make healing power actually scale with the tablet. I’ve seen numbers as high as 13k heals from this skill alone.

The addition of alacrity confuses a lot of players. A lot of people are jumping to conclusions. A single mesmer and a ventari can keep the buff up permanently on a group of 10 in raids. A ventari rev brings a lot more group support and damage compared to a second mesmer by brining boon duration, 150 ferocity for the group, and a slew of useful boons (protection, might, furry, regen).

Lastly, in wvw alacrity is being used to speed up siege for faster assaults as well as huge front line heals. Last night I was able to sustain a group under 3 arrow carts with just my own heals. Something that normally takes a group of people blasting water fields to do so. I fully predict that ventari will become staple in wvw. It has huge heals, decent range damage in a mara/zealot mix, on demand light fields, and oodles of protection.

So a lot of people have mixed opinions of ventari as a stance right now. A lot of people are still figuring some things out. I attempted to post my feedback in the official thread, and suggest one thing that ventari desperately needs but the thread locked. I think the spec is in an amazing state and will be super competitive in wvw, and very good for pve.

Now before you go stating the obvious, I think it is intended for ventari to not have a stunbreak, and has to rely on allies (or pick up invocation). However, one thing that ventari is, is very immobile. Being locked down is difficult to deal with, but currently in its current state you will never be able to reposition your self, just the tablet.

My own suggestion is to change the elite. Make the tablet explosion happen by either having the rev charge to its direction and pass through it or the port to it and explode.

This would give ventari the ability to reposition and not be permanently locked down. Which would go miles in making the spec viable in Spvp and a lot more reliable in WvW.

When Mesmer can pump out 100% alacrity and quickness, did you guys think this would change anything?

The answer to that lies in how much mesmer was buffed. If the time warp and Well of Action buffs are enough to allow 1 mesmer to provide enough quickness for 10 people, but not enough alacrity, then it would make sense to bring a ventari revenant instead of a second mesmer.

Don’t tell them that… logic is non existent on patch day….

I personally think it will become very relevant in wvw. Ventari has some very high healing now, with healing power actually scaling and with modifiers I was able to pump out 8k heals with just over 1200 healing power from a single skill. On top of that the on demand light field will do wonders for culling the condi meta in wvw. The alacrity will be useful for helping cds come up in large groups.

Outside of that I feel like its wishful thinking that they made ventari good enough. It lacks the amount of group support both mesmer and ranger provide to bump them out of either of their spots in pve. After talking to some people, it might be possible to for 1 mesmer to keep quickness up by its self on 10 people and alacrity up 70% of the time. We might be the gap fill class. In pvp ventari will still be way to susceptible to cc burst for the changes to be meaningful in that context as well and with the changes to ele, how study druid and guard are I cannot see ventari rev attempting to contest for the support role.

The expectation was a lot of things that are over the top being reduced. Eg ele staff changes was totally expected. I hoped that all the other classes would follow suit. However I was wrong.

Almost every single class got substantial buffs in either a weapon, traits, or utilities. From a pvp perspective, a lot of what I find wrong with the game was not addressed. We still have very low skill floor classes that do exceptionally well with minimal effort. Conversely we still have a lot of higher risk playstyles or classes that don’t have any meaningful reward for playing them.

Lastly, I love ventari rev. The changes are interesting. Some of our problems were fixed: healing power not scaling well, auto summon tablet, light field has a use etc. Then we have alacrity which just strikes me as bazaro. In a pve setting it wont be meaningful enough to warrant taking if you have a mesmer in the group. Ventari is better than before but it still has all the same problems, its immobile, easy to lock down, not able to self sustain its self and does not assist the player in pressuring the opponent.

I’ll explain further what I use. There are three foods you may want to use:

Is what everyone suggests for healing builds. It is a solid choice but there is something
better for rev specifically which leads me to:

This gives you a reliable +200 healing power, because tablet heal is on such a low cooldown. As well as +10% bonus. This is one of the reasons my healing power fluctuates so much. It allows for bigger heals.

Lastly there is

Which is better for smaller scale roaming. As you will need the power more for fighting targets. At 930 healing power before use, it nets you the 70 to make it to 1k healing power and gives you 100 power.

The second thing that makes my healing power fluctuate is sigil of life which gives up to 250 healing power at max stacks. It is very easy to stack these on hammer. While you can take benevolence and technically get higher outgoing heals, I find that the boost of healing power helps me sustain better.

Life and tapioca are +450 gain together. My gear setup is at 950 healing power before food and life sigil. Edit: something that I realized on my previous post, you can most definitely go higher than 1k area on healing power. It will yield bigger heals. However, it may be hard to balance out other stats if you are looking to do that past 1k healing power.

Nobody who brings up movement stuff with necro is talking movement speed. We are talking about movement and positioning skills…

As you mention spectral walk does help. Speed of shadows does wonders for chasing down targets, as does having good chill uptime, and spectral pull can ruin a lot of peoples day. Deaths charge is also on a pretty low cooldown which helps on closing the gap and kiting.

When I run reaper, my expectations by no means are to chase down a nike warrior or a thief running dash and shortbow. That’s being unrealistic. More or less don’t allow them to get to far via spectral grasp.

I will preface all of what I am about to type that I only play ventari in wvw, and am still getting a hang of it. Ventari is pretty terrible at self sustaining. All of the healing modifiers kit has are outgoing to allies.

Few pointers:

  • Always look to round to even hundreds on healing power because selfless amplification only increases by 1 1/2% per hundred healing power. At 999 healing power you still have 13.5% vs 1k healing power you get a flat 15% from the trait . 1k healing power is where it becomes a worthwhile grandmaster.
  • My build depending on food and sigils runs anywhere between 1-1.4k healing power. This is the sweet spot in my honest opinion.
  • Healing power isnt huge gains, stacking our trait modifiers with food, transference and runes of the monk are huge gains tho. You can get over a 3x multiplier. Which means that 2.3k on tooltip is going to heal for roughly 7k.
  • One thing I do abuse for self sustain, is sigil of draining. I expect it to be nerfed. I can get roughly a 1.3k heal on a single interrupt. I run mostly front line as a healer, and have healed upwards 6k from a single surge of the mist on 5 targets from the life steal.
  • Tranquil benediction, bolster fortifications, and invigorating flow can sustain you in fights, but you need stab to not get locked down.
  • I would highly recommend a hammer. It allows you to heal, and contribute damage from range. Be very careful hanging back vs melee trains.

I would not recommend ventari at all for small scale. As you are very easily singled out, and struggle to deal with any kind of CC. If you want to heal on rev in 2-10man grounds I would suggest taking staff + shield and take advantage of facet of lights regen and take mallyx over ventari.

IMHO i think WvWvW needs ppl to transfer alot, if ppl all stay on the servers they are on now, you will be killing the same ppl all the time. that will get boring very fast.

it might be frustrating to some if u wake up and find ur self on a suddenly empty server, but hey then u got enough enemies to kill and will soon see diffrent servers. and after a while out of nowhere ppl you have never seen before will come to your server.

We have a system that can change that. If people don’t move as much, you actually use the linking server to shake up match ups.

I still say they need to introduce legendary armor for wvw, and make the entire progression tied to server loyalty. The moment you move, you lose all your progress. If you’ve completed the set and move, the set reverts back to your gifts and have to reacquire the components from loyalty. Make it a 2 or 3 month long journey.

It’s wierd, in T2 TC can put up multiple map queues, but in tier 1 TC struggles to put up a single map q…. how do you accurately measure population when theres such a large difference in activity between tiers?

From my own experience, its not tier1 specifically. It’s mag and the way the play for me.
They run inside the moment they are in any kind of danger and not outnumbering you 2:1. Or sit on motar or cannon for 35 minutes firing the entire time while people actually try to have fights. On top of that they run some pretty uninteresting and cheesy setups.

It boils down to me personally that I don’t care for their non sense. I play to have fun, and what they are doing isnt in the spirit of interesting game play it is winning at all costs. I know a lot of people on TC that feel the same way. It’s what drives a lot of people away.

You can tell people to get good, or grow thick skin or w/e the fact of the matter if people aren’t having fun, they wont play. That’s what this match up this week is. It’s not fun. It has very little to do with winning; the last two weeks in tier 2 were pretty clear on that. We didn’t win either week, but we had lots of interesting fights and opponents, not cheesy garbage and overwhelmingly out numbered fights.

Afaik magumma has relied on kdr to carry it’s points or whatever it is other people care about.

KDR is one thing. Avoiding all fights where you do not outnumber the opponent is another thing. I can count two separate occasions over this week where someone from mag didn’t run, call for help and actually fought fights. From my experience, mag don’t want fights. They want easy bags and ppk. People get tired of playing with that so they’ve gone elsewhere.

I wouldn’t be too hopeful for any dev or ANET response here lol. They’ve stealth deleted the other threads that were made expressing people’s frustration with WvW and population lel. So don’t expect this thread to be up more than another 2 days.

Devs don’t like being told their cr*p sucks lul. They’ve stealth deleted like 3 threads already within the last week.

But to get more on subject. Transfer to Mag. We got Gud playerz. It’s basically Mag Vs. The World since everyone h8’s us.

Do the community a favor. Flood support. It’s the only way policy will change. If they get enough feedback eventually it will pile up and they will have to do something about it.

It’s not fine.

Im on Tarnished Coast (5th) currently full while the 1th and 2nd servers are with transfers open while our wvw population is small compared to them.

It got to a point where we’re playing in peak hours, we had a 20 man squad against a truckload of people on maguuma and blackgate on the Eternal Battlegrounds, each time we got wiped, people left the squad until our commander said kitten it and we all went to EoTM instead.

In peak hours we

TC is intentionally tanking this week to avoid getting locked in tier 1. This has been a wasted week of nonstop ktrains. I always enjoy fighting TC and I hate how this is playing out but I also understand why people don’t want to be in this tier. As for me, my interest in wvw couldn’t be lower when its just ktraining. Ironically there’s more fights in EoTM sometimes.

TC can’t fight tier 1 atm. It is clear as day. We could barely keep up with tier 2 (just making second place the one week and coming in dead last the second). We don’t have the numbers or the enthusiasm. We’ve lost a lot of guilds over the last month and a half. Some of us gave up when we saw tier 1, just because of how poor the attitudes are of the other servers, some of us gave up mid way through the match up because it isnt fun to get bag farmed at spawns, some of us despite being frustrated are actually still trying.

I can tell you there are a few guilds that say were throwing, still that does not rep the entire TC community, Zog’s been running some pretty substantial hours, [Wolf] has been running some aggressive hours as well and we have had a lot recruitment going on.

Last night was pretty gloom, as we spent 5 hours being spawn camped on every bl by mag and bg with 0-6 ppt. We couldn’t even muster up enough people to take back ebg keep during prime time. It was almost enough to write another ticket to support.

I don’t understand how were closed when can’t even muster 30 people into eb during prime, yet, its fine for mag and bg to open with double onimblobs ktraining everywhere. Sure you may have had fun and have your own perception but I don’t share it.

As other people have said, solo roaming isn’t at it’s best right now.

Part of it is how people play. Many refuse to engage without outnumbering targets. Some refuse to leave the safety of towers, camps, allies, and jump people that are having a fight. A lot of it is the product conditioning from a few poor players running the game mode that has made the masses change to get to where we are now.

EG: I am guilty of killing afk players, because too many times, I’ve had people pretend to be afk, walk past them only to get jumped by them and their friends 30 seconds later. I never used to do this. But doing this is the norm now.

The other part is builds and class balance. Which anet is directly responsible for. For example they continue to allow condition mesmer to have the tools it has; the damage it has, and the sustain it has. It is not only a really overinflated kit, but an unenjoyable one to play against. Condi mesmer isn’t the only class that has an unfun kit to play against. Every single class needs some shaves in various areas be it too much passive defense, to much active defense, or too much damage.

The thing is we haven’t had a substantial balance change since HoT. I don’t think we will until it’s too late (the next expansion). I really look forward to the day where the devs change balance to make fighting things like warrior enjoyable again, rather then a tedious unintuitive fights I get from them currently.

Another thing a lot of people look over is hardening persistence. You get 240 armor + 7% dmg reduction out of vengeful hammers or embrace the darkness pumps you up 500 armor. Both of those increases in armor factor to either a 15 or 30 point increase in power or condition damage depending on the use of a tuning crystal or sharpening stone.

People overlook Hardening Persistence because Radiant Revival is 2X better.

Matter of opinion. I disagree. However, I tend to roam solo on condi rev.

Interesting, so I’m guessing you find extra toughness worth the sacrifice to of power for survivability.

I find the toughness invaluable because no matter what you will have to be in the face of things to get damage out of mace. Fighting with mace ends up being a battle of attrition and toughness allows you to last longer.

Looks good. The only thing I might suggest is taking vicious lacerations over ferocious strikes. The reason for this is you can build the stacks, and swap weapons the increase still affects the other weapon set. It isnt reliant on crits to get the same 10% damage increase. So crit or not you get the gains.

I run something similar as more of a tank hybrid in wvw.

I’d run mallyx if Unyielding anguish was a stunbreak & stability/or evade.

I do not know if you have played mallyx since the pain absorption change, but it is now a stunbreak. Overall its a very attractive legend for me personally. It’s not quiet as mobile as shiro, but it does get around a lot better compared to glint.

You need to add Sword offhand #5, in particular the initial hit and how to land it. It fails quite often for no apparent reason, terrain issues, etc. A shadow step to the target would make a world of difference.

Will add this. I personally have never had any issues with sword 5, aside from it being 130 range which is very hard to land on targets given how mobile everything is.

I feel that revenant has many flaws. One of them being its poor Legend mechanic. I encourage anyone that feels legends are poor to post feeback here so that the class can move forward.

My viewpoint on legends:

Before I go into each legend, it feels like no two legend combos has the tools to deal with opponents. Your always missing something. Then there is the terrible feeling of having to frantically swap legends to have energy, instead of playing around being in the right legend for the current fight at hand. I am going over things that fall short or are problems with the legends only.

Ventari

  • Finicky positioning
  • Low heal coefficients
  • Small radi on skills
  • Prohibitively expensive condi clear (35 to move and clear condi)
  • 0 Mobility.
  • no boon support
  • no damage
  • High upkeep projectile destruction

I have aways thought of the legendary centaur stance to be an oxymoron. The stance is based on one of the most nomadic and mobile creatures in tyria. But congrats you just switched to ventari stance, you are now a sitting duck. You can move the tablet, but you are not going anywhere fast. This causes you to just be locked down the moment you use this stance. Offering you 0 counter play.

1. Tablet needs to appear on swap and teleports back to you if out of 1500 units range.
2. Add 3 seconds of swiftness to the targets of Ventari’s Will (the heal)
3. Make skills 6 thru 9 always affect you as well even if the tablet isn’t near, so you can keep yourself not dead and also make 2 bubbles of Protective Solace (one on you, one on tablet) which makes the upkeep worthwhile.
4. Make Elite skill behave like Ventari’s Will. The tablet glows bright yellow for 1 second, then charges between its current location and the target point, knocking back 5 targets on its way and giving superspeed to 5 allies on the path. Remove healing orbs on elite. Add 10-15 cooldown, but skill doesn’t destroy the tablet.
5. Add protection to Natural Harmony’s heal wave.

It’s not perfect, but at least it lets you sustain yourself while maintaining allies, better boon coverage (swift, regen, prot, supspeed), more cc and less management.

Totally a fan of these types of changes. +1

Dwarf

  • High costs across the board. The only thing that is not 30+ energy is the channeled skill
  • Inspiring Reinforcement is easily interrupted or just avoided.
  • Right of the great dwarf is too costly to use as a stunbreak.

Dwarf stance in all honesty could be viable with a couple of tweaks. Its biggest issue is its costs. After using any skill you’re waiting another 5 seconds before you have energy to be able to use anything else on the bar.

Glint

  • has no costs on any of its actives.

Glint brings so much to the table. A stun break, boons, mobility, range, reveal, cc, and then it costs nothing to use the active parts. I honestly think this stance is why rev can’t have nice things in it’s other stances because literally everything got packed into it.

As a whole, Stances for the most part do have good skills, its just you often cannot use them due to high costs. It feels like all the skills were balanced around having 100% energy per swap. Rather than the current 50%.

Originally I made a long drawn out post on all things I found to be issues with rev right now. I decided to break the it down into three seperate posts. This one is about how poor the traitlines are in their current state.

I am not going to go over every single trait or lines here, just in general the bad options, and things missing in each line.

Corruption

At Major

  • Venom enchantment is redundant when we only have one other source of application
  • replenishing dispare would not heal through a single stack of torment with 0 condi damage or duration.

At Master:

  • Frigid Precision is useless.

At Grandmaster:

  • Pulsating Pestilence doesn’t help you deal with conditions, it just passes them on.
  • Maniacal Persistence is near useless. Especially when you could go invocation and get furry and double its effects really easily.

Overall the problem with the entire trait line is it has 2 forms of application(3 if you count that poison stack). No burn duration, no bleeding, almost 0 poison to go along with our single source, no getting rid of conditions, or meaningful way to survive with conditions outside of resistance. The whole line is pathetic as there is only one completive trait per tier. None of the the traits here except for two grandmaster traits change the way the class plays.

Salvation

At Major:

  • I would give the edge to Blinding truths its bad gameplay tho, spamming move the tablet to get blinds out is not enjoyable for anyone. Smallest radius ever.
  • Other two of them are passive and very low impact.
  • Tranquil Balance feels like an attempt to help band aid our terribly low healing coefficients.

At Master

  • Tranquil benediction feels useless even when allies get the orbs.
  • Eluding Nullification has too small of a radius
  • Invoking Harmony another bandaid for our terrible healing coefficients.

At Grandmaster

  • Selfless Amplification again another bandiad for the healing coefficients. This trait looks impactful, but its not compared to the others. You need roughly 1350 healing power to get 20% out of it.
  • Natural Abundance unreliable because of how small the radi of the fragments are and that opponents on top of the tablet automatically step on the fragment.
  • Momentary Pacification: Does not do anything about the fact that opponents can easily cleave through the vines. There is also no damage component to it either.

Salvation has two problems. The first is even if you were to play smart stack all the crazy modifiers your not going to heal for much and if you do your lock you self out of being able to do anything. The second problem is there is no support to help you the rev sustain, all those modifiers are outgoing to allies, so you cannot even keep your self alive.

Lastly Retribution

  • Stability on evade feels terrible. I mean chances are I am dodging the cc skill, now I have this boon that I don’t need, it runs out in 3 seconds and then you get stunned.

    At Major
  • Improved Aggression :reduced damage while taunting foe. Well la di da. To bad your almost never going to taunt anyone. It’s too costly.
  • Planar Protection take this trait. Make it baseline. Do that with every fall damage trait.

At Master

  • Retaliatory Evasion: Woo… retal for 2 seconds… its pointless.
  • Eye for Eye needs to be a minor trait. No one would ever pass this trait up

At grandmaster

  • Empowering vengeance: there is no meaningful way to get retal other than to use dodges to get it.
  • Steadfast Rejuvenation is less than a the orbs from staff auto as a heal. This is a grandmaster trait.

Retribution actually has some interesting trait ideas, but they are either implemented so poorly that they cannot be used due to reliance on other boons or player actions or they are so good that you will not choose anything else. None of the traits in here change the way you play. It just adds on passive defenses.

So I am probably beating a dead horse here. I feel that rev is not viable in many ways because it lacks meaningful options. I encourage anyone else reading this to post the things that make Revenant unfinished or underwhelming to them.

From my point of view here are all the problems preventing any kind of build diversity Starting with weapons. From here on is my opinion of what is wrong with the class. Feel free to post why you agree or disagree below.

Staff:

  • has very low damage on the auto attack chain
  • long chain 1/2+ 1/2+ 1 sec
  • the heal part of the chain is near useless. With a menders amulet and healing based rune your putting out a wooping 300 health per second. Its embarrassing. The difference between thief staff auto and rev staff auto is crazy it is literally the same cast times and chain. The difference being the end of chain combo is its 60% higher on the thief before traits.
  • Staff 2 is not worthwhile in it’s current iteration

Staff is low damage. It’s only value is the block, condi clear, and the knockdown. Sadly its more valuable then the rest of its weapons 90% of the time because it will allow you to stall to change legends in order to get more energy.

Hammer

  • Easily interruptible/dodgeable because of how slow it is
  • Bursty, High hits, low dps.
  • CoR has an issue with terrian where if you cast the skill and it does not go along an even plane it wiffs on targets on even the tiniest elevation variation.

Hammer would be a lot better if we had reliable access stability

Mace

  • Chain sucks, 1 stack of torment, 1 stack of torment, 1 stack of poison this is our only access to poison. It’s actually a damage loss to complete the chain.
  • Searing fissure has a the same elevation problem as CoR
  • Echoing interruption is a multi blast skill, however it will only blast one field once. despite being separate blasts.

Mace applicaition and build up is really slow, and it requires you to be in melee the entire time. The issue with this weapon is it requires a paradox to happen. Your opponet needs to be constantly moving to get the most of torment, but your opponet must also never leave your burn field to get good damage mace. I love the animations on this weapon, but it sucks. It sucks that it sucks.

Axe

  • Temporal Rift has the same bug as CoR

Sword(offhand)

  • grasping shadows has a very small radius, which makes it hard to land
  • grasping shadows also has issues with the backwards port involving terrain.

Finally across all weapons the majority of skills cost way to much in tandem with having long cooldowns. It feels like anet double diped on preventing us from being impact in fights. With no meaningful way to generate energy, it feels as those skills were never meant to have energy costs with them.

Condi rev’s two biggest vices are it has terrible condition application as far as condi builds go and terrible sustain. Which saddens me because I really enjoy mace on rev.

If I remember correctly, out of the entire kit there is 9 total sources that all apply low stacks of conditions. In addition, is there is almost 0 support for conditions at all throughout the trait lines. The only two being poison, which is redundant with one measly stack and source of application from auto attack chain and the torment duration increase.

The sustain problem that people are talking about in here is a reveanant problem as a whole. Every rev build struggles with access to meaningful stability and being able to deal with conditions across the board.

I have outlined all this in a post that is over 10months old. Despite it being of my higher upvoted posts, very little came of it. The only thing that has changed is mallyx now has a stunbreak.

I have to say overall OPs post was pretty surpising, was expecting some Q.Q thread. Here are my own thoughts:

About warrior, I think warrior is fine. It’s berserker. Berserkers burst skills bring so much damage compared to warriors, with minimal cast times and low cool downs. In all honesty I think warrior as a whole would be pretty balanced if they up’d the cool down on mace burst, and adjusted the radius on greatsword arc divider.

Agreed on trap damage for guards. I’d also like to see spear of justice have some costs regarding the pull. I think moving the target half way, and moving the guard half way on the pull would be a lot more interesting and give the opponent some counter play to this really strong cc.

Rev is in a crappy state atm. Personally I hope they do something with its weapons. Sword is the only weapon that makes the class playable.

Theif needs to have pulmn have an icd. Simple as that. I would also argue death blossom needs a rework as it promotes some really poor play.

Ranger and engineer have the same problem imo. They have way to much stealth in aoe format while being able to be a good bunker which is what allows them to have really good res and escape potential.

Mesmer I would like to see a small defense shave. Currently they have way to much invuln/block uptime. I see a lot of people play in pve rotation style and sadly have really high success because of limited windows of opportunity.

Nothing above exotic is really necessary if you play meta cookie cutter builds.

A lot of people say you need ascended because of they know if your serious about wvw you will experiment with builds and it is cheaper to do so and saves inventory/bank space. Ascended armor set gives 5% more stats than exotic equivalent. In addition to this you can gain an extra 30 stats from infusion slots as well.

What WvW really needs is legendary armor, or an equivalent where players can freely change stats to optimize their builds and change them for different situations. This would free a lot of people from having to carry a zerg set and a roaming set on every character.

I would say 8/10 the barrier for entry in wvw is costly gear. Another 1/10 is the food. The rest being siege, if your not a commander.

Ok, objectively I get what the OP is trying to say. That no build should be able to completely one hit another. It shouldn’t be possible.

I’ve played the thief build in question, which you can combo upwards of 38k in two hits, I’ve played the same build on a ranger that hit the same value in a single hit, followed by another 20k from tiger f2. Likewise, I’ve also played the opposite end of the spectrum against these kinds of builds, the undying tank ele, the unmoveable full nomads guard, and so on. That laugh in the face of these kinds of builds and win the fight.

This what my experience is. The numbers on both ends spectrum are disgusting. While I’d love to see the stats brought in line from both sides I still have to say this, you die because you misplayed. You either didn’t bring the right stat pool to fight your opponent appropriately or you played poorly in that encounter. You need to either tank up, or get good if you want to beat glass builds.

My offer from the previous thread still stands, I am willing to go over your builds and give you options to play against these types of builds. This post screams to me, I am struggling and don’t understand please help me. I want to help you but can’t if your not willing to help your self.

Lastly, I’d like to ask you to not delete threads and make new ones when your vision is not shared. You’ve done this in the past and its considered spamming. It also shows that you don’t want to discuss things, but instead tell people I am right your wrong. Even when they are trying to help you. Which also isnt the spirit of the forums.

Noob friendly? Lol quite the reverse actually. They are trying to make it more hardcore and spread the zergs out more. They are just trying to make the zerg playstyle have cons, and not just be face roll. So there’s not whats going on in GW2, where people are just stacking servers and just running over much smaller groups. ZOS actually wants to make players pay dearly for utilizing skill-less stack, outnumber , and steamroll zerg tactics. They want to make the zerg playstyle more risk versus rewards, and not all rewards and no risks. Solo and Small Group activities are a thing, in other MMOs.

But then again, I don’t expect many people in these forums, to understand such things.

I don’t understand how you have this perception of things. We anet has continuously reduced aoe caps and damage, while increasing group defensive capabilities since june 23rd 2015.

I do not like to @devs in titles, but the burst damage output, by some individual builds, is way off the charts… I’m not sure if, or how much, y’all have fingers on the pulse with regard to this, but it requires some serious attention.

All of the above numbers, by any individual profession build, are not acceptable to let linger in competitive game modes.

Imagine if you will some random necro put out 22k worth of damage in 2 seconds… I highly doubt there would be silence on the subject.

Signet thief is an abuse case build, its very gimmicky and unreliable. Its not really viable because you put all your eggs in one basket.

You can do the exact same thing with smoke scale for stealth and then use maul and signets on ranger. Maul you can get upwards of 38k on a single hit in wvw.

Pretty much every class save engie and necro has the tools to make one hit builds possible.

Do I support these kinds of builds? kinda.

They require very large sacrifices to the point where the build becomes binary. You either land the hit and score an instant kill or fold like cheap cardboard. All these builds are countered by a single dodge roll or block or invuln… then they have wait around 30 seconds to be able to do anything. If you can’t kill a full glass anything that just expelled its entire utility bar in 30 seconds your doing something wrong.

Frankly I’d rather have a dance with a one shot opponent than an undying(eg condi mesmer or frontline ele) opponent.

All that said, they need to reduce damage and defenses as a whole across the board so that combat can actually be tactical like it was before HoT.

Oh great meowseth. How does one climb as ventari rev? JK idk who in their right mind would do that…

I am a bit of a standstill atm, I originally placed gold climbed to plat, then real life cough up and degraded to bronze. Now I cant get out of higher silver. I am primarily playing daredevil and power druid.

I run into this issue very frequently where our team fragments and two people repeatedly go mid to die, one attempts far and one attempts to hold home. What ends up happening is we get steamrolled everywhere else but where I go. 9/10 the result is we get rolled and never catch up afterwards.

What should I be doing in this situation? I’ve tried telling people buddy system… but no one listens at this range (1250-1350)

Also what other classes than mesmer do you see as easy to carry games.

VAULT Daredevil Damage

I know there’s a frame of vulnerability during the Vault animation and I know Thieves run out of endurance just like anyone else. But it seems no matter how much I try to predict and counter, there’s no reward. They just Shadow Step out of range, stealth, Steal or what ever other ability they have available to slip out of my fingers, which it seems like they always have at least one.

I just wanted reply to this as I found your post really reasonable.

The quote above outlines the issue with every class since HoT. Everyone seems to have oodles defense baked in be it blocks, stealth, evasion, healing and invulns and thats not even getting to some of the ridiculous passives. We have too many tools that let us go on for what seems forever. Even if you make a mistake, the current kits make it hard for your opponents to capitalize on them.

Vault honestly is an example of an overinflated skill made to deal with the overinflated defenses currently in the game.

I’m not going to ask for nerfs because I don’t think Vault in particular needs it. But I do think something to do with staff and the amount of evades it can provide needs to be looked at.

I feel the same way. I can practically evade forever on staff against bad players. Its the same with DP and blinds/stealth. Thief in general has a pretty weak kit that really only supports one type of play style anymore which is active avoidance spam. I wish they would open the class up more so that it could have better exchange patterns.

The fact that the game mode isn’t doing well has a little to do with the braindead additions they have made to it, but that’s not really the biggest issue. People keep talking about new maps, new rewards, new this, new that.

None of that matters if the fights are not fun.

The leader of my havoc guild used to make really cool videos from WvW footage, showcasing guilds on our server and so on. She recently came back and wanted to record fights and make new videos. What she found, however, is that the footage was boring as hell because the fights were boring as hell.

There is no balance, no diversity. It’s all particle showers and skill spam. Use whatever is off cooldown and let your passives take care of the rest. There is no push and pull, none of that “he used X so I’ll use Y”. There are no turtle guards who sacrifice damage for survival, instead there’s DH that has both. Or Daredevil. Or Scrapper. Or Berserker. Block block block evade evade evade invuln invuln invuln. 8k, 9k, 12k crits per skill.

WvW is all about the fights. The objectives, the map design, it’s all there to encourage encounters with the enemy. So when the experience of those encounters is nothing but the same condi-passive-block bullcrap over and over and over, is it no wonder that people leave?

The solution lies not with the WvW team, but with the apparently non-existent balance one.

This is the nail on the head for me.

All I face is the same builds, same comps, same boring passive gameplay. Classes have way to much of everything & oodles of passive effects to go along side that. I don’t blame players for playing the mind numbing condi mesmer, or the “this class plays it’s self” guardian or “Chaccaron Maccaron” warrior, I blame anet for allowing this non sense to continue.

When I heard there was big wvw changes coming over a year ago, my initial thought was, wow they are finally going to do a wvw centered balance patch. Nope. Were still playing the same stuff we were a year ago. With the exact same bad gameplay patterns that make fighting an untactical, drawn out, snorefest.

MMR loss from losing is insane

I am barely in gold atm (1365). My experience has been that wins are either +6 or +8. Losses range anywhere from 15-25 points. Something is up with the scoring.

From my perspective there is no point in winning 2/3 of my games only to go no where. Unless they fix what ever issue causing these kinds of deviants, it’ll just means farming the last chest and stopping.

I am sure I am not the only person that has this kind of issue.

Idea for condi rev build

What I run is the new deadshot + scavenging. For sigils smoldering and a generosity on mace/axe, leeching and either earth or geomancy on staff. Another stat setup that is effective is the wander + undead rune combo.

You may want to take diabolic inferno. As it is part of our burn burst. PP can be supplemented with a generosity sigil that and it does not actually clear the conditions off you while generosity does.

Herald line is a must. The f2, is free boons. On top of that hardening persistence is an amazing defensive increase; as you gain a lot of toughness, in addition to extra stamina regen for having upkeep.

If you do run jallis and want to run the more sustain tank role, do pick up devastation over retribution: (bottom row across) the life siphon on hit, + hit on sides can be a lot of health back on vengeful hammers and other fast multi hit skills. The unblockable trait will allow you to trade with things like meta mesmer and war when they try to turtle. Jallis taunt is amazing for making people stand in your searing fissure, but is extremely costly.

I would recommend glint over jallis though. The boon support, heal, more reliable stunbreak and extra burning is a lot to give up.

Staff is an amazing weapon, it can allow you to kite, prevent or secure res’s and provide some condi clear for your group when mallyx is starved.

Season 5 Class Balance Thread

Im up and down, mostly around 1400 rank. Primarily playing condi rev and d/p staff thief.

Dragon hunters: are extremely low skill floor. Very easy to do well, very rare to see someone actively playing the class. I can almost set a 25 second timer on every dh I see. If they live till 25 seconds they have expelled all their cooldowns are now an easy kill.

Warrior: condi varient much like dragonhunter above. Class practically drives its self. See the odd power warrior that knows what they are doing and are a burst machine. Aside from that it’s a waiting game.

Mesmer: Condi varient is mind numbing to play against. It’s just a giant stall fest where low skilled players cycle through a rotation of cooldowns. When they run out they die. The odd higher skilled player is literally all over the map and unkillable.

Druid, Ele, & Engie: Mixed bag. I can tell immediately which ones know what they are doing and which ones are off in “lala cycle buttons” land. A lot players on support builds that do not know how to support or avoid focus fire. There are some very competent people on these classes looking to carry games.

Reapers: Often binary, they are either played absolute kitten or amazingly. Solid class this season as boons are still rampant and condi pressure is still very strong. I have to give kudos to the odd power reaper I see who knows how to counter dragon hunters completely.

Theif: again binary. Can be played really well and used to abuse people that don’t understand their own class. In the same note I have some people that cannot do anything other than camp stealth and attempt backstabs. I think thief is a solid pick if the person knows how to +1 and rotate. There is to much emphasis on spamming in many cases.

Rev : Not as good as it once was in +1 but still very good in team fights. Player performance is anywhere from someone trying walk a dinosaur to hard carries. I am honestly surprised how few I’ve seen lately.
