Yep.

In the middle of the pack, there’s around a 1 in 3 chance you’ll be the top server in your matchup. Just unlucky, I guess.
We got BG all pumped up. Let’s see if they can keep the momentum.
Sorry no. I leveled two engineers with bombs and grenades but experimented with the traits. I didn’t really find any setup that was noticably terrific, at least until you hit 60. Grenadier is far and away the best trait for that style of leveling. Incidiary Powder is pretty good once you start getting gear with precision on it. Bomb radius helps because mobs don’t always stack exactly how you want.
I just noticed I didn’t specify weapons, only utilities. That’s because I rarely used my normal weapon because the kits are just better. If you build more power-ish, use rifle. If you build more condition-ish, use Pistol/Pistol. I suggest the med-kit so you get access to swiftness and a condition removal. For the remaing utility, I suggest you experiment to find what you like. I personally used elixir B for the extra swiftness.

Heh, DB is just trying to stay above +0 PPT all week
Also, as some would hope in a SoR v BG v TC matchup the chances are BG and TC would focus SoR more. I would love to see us taking a shot at being decimated in a SoR v BG v T8 server.
Did you just call TC a “T8 Server” or am I misunderstanding?
Hehe, yes you are misunderstanding. He really wants 1v1 with SoR v BG, and having a T8 server as the third is the closest to that.
Yes, you have to do PvE. Unless you can find a zerg karma train WvW leveling is extremely slow. And even if you do, it’s still very slow. PvE with hearts, story, and DEs, I found leveling to be at least 3 times faster than WvW. And that is independent of profession.
If you decide to just bite the bullet and PvE, take grenades and bombs to make those heart and DEs go faster. Build explosives and I suggest you do power/condition damage hybrid stats.
I can’t speak for SoR and JQ but on BG there are quite a few small groups of people that like running around looking for these types of fights. From my experiences in the “top 3” if I’m lucky enough to find a 1v1/2 it quickly turns into a 1v5+
Also if you happen to come across a random class, there is a good chance they died and are running back to the zerg. If that is the case a lot of people have builds that suit large group play and are quite lacking in 1v1s.
I know what you mean. Since our servers mostly zerg it makes sense to build for zergs. My build is very group oriented, and I have almost no chance in a 1v1, and I’ll try to run off when things start to go bad.. But I’ll still engage just for kicks and giggles. Is it a fear of dying/losing? I promise I’ll /bow if I win (but I ain’t paying for your repair bill).
(edited by Eviator.9746)
I suck at 1v1s. See, look at my signature. But today in DBBL I had several level 80 BG and JQ non-thieves run away from a 1v1 with me. In fact not one engaged in a fight, except thieves. One guardian even jumped off a cliff and died to avoid it. This is not JQ or BG bashing, but I’m starting to wonder if the top 3 server meta has absolutely no place for 1v1 or 2v2 fights!
Dear Gents and Ladies,
As we are almost at an end;

Love, Fuzzy.PS. Im off to the pubs, its friday after all
The last several days your posts have actually been nice and sportsmanlike. +1000000
Hopefully you stomped enough RE that you got the hate out of your system. It’d be nice to not see your anti-RE posts in the matchup thread that has DB in it. Cheers!

Thing is, sophtspoken has received the most attention in this matchup thread. He is seeking attention, and because he’s putting down other servers, he is trolling. Best to ignore trolls, ya know.
I completed the achievements yesterday after about 30% of my matches being on the team with someone away from keyboard. The first time I saw it I realized it’s going to get worse and worse over time until the game is completely unplayable, so I just pushed through to finish instead of putting it off and waiting for AN to come up with a solution.
Tough night on DB BL this evening. We’re fielding 30 folks and are outmanned. Fighting out of our Citadel is not much fun.
If you’re looking to maximize heal per healing power, then you need to use 0 healing power because it scales less than 1-to-1 (0.1, in fact). If you’re looking to determine how much healing you do with a certain healing power, you use the formula. What you are looking for doesn’t come out cleanly because you’re adding a multiplier to a base.
Healing / Healing power = 145 / Healing power + .1
It’s difficult to isolate the variables to one side of the equation.
Individuals of RE have been in game off and on. Haven’t seen any commanders. Maybe just taking some time off?
Yeah, I see where you’re going with this. No need to name and shame.
Greetings from Tier 1 in Europe

Wrong forum?
Um that’s a 5-second clip on loop for 10 whole minutes. And also that’s just wrong.
I was considering giving a list of pre-T2 guilds, but this is probably a better response. DB appreciates all of its guilds, and are prepared to part ways with any of them with a hankshake and a fair-thee-well.
Actually, it was my guild being targeted for recruitment so didn’t get to use my spidey senses.
How silly. Everyone knows EA is one of the “core” DB guilds that will never leave DB.
I’ve spent 8+ hours a day in eb since reset and from what I’ve seen BG can’t do anything to us without WAY out manning us or double teaming us with JQ which is just sad. At least as far as EB goes
Have you never followed a 30+ man zerg to take an undefended camp or tower? The way I see it, if you are winning the numbers game, might as well use that to your advantage. I certainly wouldn’t say “hey look 10 DB taking QL, can a squad of 10 people or less please stop them?”
Oh, and you can be sure that BG has fairweathers just like any other server. So some of those people you are complaining about might not be too confident in their WvW skills, and need backup from people who know what they’re doing.
Lastly, you sound bitter. You clearly are not enjoying your time, yet you are spending 8 hours a day in EB. Maybe your time is better spent elsewhere. I’m not saying this to troll, I just think you might have an addiction problem, and I’m trying to help.
(edited by Eviator.9746)
Man I would love to follow Sophtspoken around and see what must be very sportsmanlike and balanced gameplay, based upon his posts.
(edited by Eviator.9746)
Gotta give a /bow and /highfive to RISE from BG on DBBL this afternoon (for me it’s afternoon). You were showing great coordination in Titan outnumbered 2 (DB PUGs) to 1 (RISE). I think a lot of people, those who have never seen a GvG, were surprised by the effectiveness of a moving stack. You were very difficult to kill in such a formation, and a lot of people who didn’t know how to fight it died. Hopefully our PUGs learned something from that, and when the commander asks people to stack, they actually stack!
(edited by Eviator.9746)
…snip…
For people who like matchups that are closer to even, the old system was best. For people who like to see new faces, and have a chance to get out of an ongoing losing streak, the new system is better. Another benefit with the new system seems to be that the anti-DB sentiment seems to be going down. We even have some TC folks rooting us on! I like the perceived improvement to overall sportsmanship.
Would you mind sharing your thoughts on use of the Elixir Gun? Right now I tend to only switch to it after everything else is on cooldown, thus I’m not using it tactically. Yeah I see the Acid Bomb blast finisher for healing and escape. And yeah I see the heals and light field from Super Elixir. Do you find the EG auto-attack of any value? Do you make tactical use of EG 2 and 3? What are your favorite EG uses?
I first heard of Dragon Bash in this forum yesterday, and I really thought it was a smashing of DB, and I was sad
These last several posts are just lame. There’s no content here.
Since switching to this playstyle from both tankcat and Mask’s build, I’m having way more fun. I love what the bomb kit has added, and the fields and blast finishers are just awesome. For some reason this build seems more survivable that the tankcat, and I think it’s because the little bomb circles cause people to dodge and evade, whereas with the tankcat people just keep on spamming their skills. Plus this build has more CCs that allow me to retreat and catch my breath, so I can return to the fight on my terms. Now I don’t think I have the skill to win 1v1s or 1v2+s with it yet because I have a lot of room for improvement, but I can usually stand on the front lines a while, troll, bait, and otherwise support my group.
What is also cool is I don’t think this build is in danger of any serious nerfs because there are no clutch traits or skills. It’s the combination of several varied skills that, in the right hands, cause chaos and wins fights.
Thanks for opening my eyes to this play-style for the engineer. I’m now ready to upgrade from rares to exotics.
(edited by Eviator.9746)
Sophtspoken, sorry bro but you’re not going to get a lot of DB to back you up on this one. Yes, this morning both JQ and BG were attacking our inner DB Garrison at the same time. Both servers confirmed that it made sense for them to do so because it was an easy target. Turned out not as easy as either thought (hehehe). An hour after that battle BG owned half of our BL and JQ maybe a camp and tower. So BG fought JQ on our BL to get those points.
Then a couple hours ago we (DB) made a push for our own BL and captured most of it. I think neither JQ nor BG liked that, and pushed back. The result is what you see now. To me it seems each server is taking points as a matter of opportunity. It’s called going after the low hanging fruit, and that’s us.
Today is the first time I got to play in this matchup. I’ve been on DB since free transfers, and here is what I learned:
1) Top 3 servers don’t let up. In other tiers if you get most of your BL back, the invaders will leave. Not with you guys…you always keep the pressure.
2) Top 3 servers will intentionally fight on different sides of an objective hoping to win it in the Lord’s room.
3) With so many people in a 3-way battle the lag is just dumb. There’s no way ANet a) intended such big battles, and/or b) is happy with the performance during such big battles. Just yuck.
JQ and BQ, thanks for the many many bags in DBBL today. And thanks for the challenge. I think our server is learning a lot and will come out of this stronger than when we came in. Still not strong enough for Top 3, obviously, but stronger.
I picked Engineer in beta because I thought it was the profession I wanted to play the least, and I didn’t want to spoil the rest of the professions when release came. I ended up getting so up close and personal with the engi that the other professions seem foreign, and now I play engineer almost exclusively. I say almost because
Turns out the engineer has rather varied gameplay, especially with kits. Maybe the ele matches it, but I just couldn’t get into it. I gave up on warrior and ranger because I found them far too simple.
Wanted to say this last week but if [AGG] is the best ya got DB.
You are not prepared.
Hey, thanks for stopping by and telling something we’ve known for days now. Hope your response time is much quicker than this on the battlefield.
I give a lot of props to DB for putting up a fight whenever they have numbers. JQ and BG, love when our armies clash. That reset night, DB vs. JQ vs. BG in JQGarri was looooong and fuuuuun!
I am having a lot of fun in this match up…
…amazing what not having to face SoR will do for you.
Not having to fight SoR is a breath of fresh air.
When you go against them you always feel like a full map zerg might be around every corner..
So you do know how DB feels in this matchup! :P
If random mismatches are the future of WvW, touring might just become a trend once again. Seems to me stacking servers has become an obsolete meta.
Don’t know what I’m talking about? Wait till you’re facing Eregon Terrace and Hendge of Denravi for a week.. Theres so many of us piled onto SoR, BG and JQ now that there isn’t much of anyone left for the other servers.
On the other hand, being on a top 3 (T1) server now looks to increase your chances of winning week to week, especially for the 2nd and 3rd server. So if you’re on a T1 server and you like winning more than good fights, you’re gonna stay on a T1 server.
Well if they do it for BoB, it only makes sense for turret detonation too, and any other damage-dealing blast finishers any other professions have. Hey, don’t get me wrong, I would love it. Just seems like it’s more powerful than it looks on the surface, possibly unbalancing.
…snip…
tldr; TW you’re not aloud to have any fun because your decisions impact my life in a negative way.
I believe that would be a rather terrific combo for engineers in PvP/WvW. Blind your enemies, knock them back with damage, and then stealth you for 3s. ANet would never let us have all that in 2 key clicks.
Nobody, not anyone in T1, T2, nor T3 – T8, is surprised by what DB is doing against T1 servers. Well maybe 0.01% of DB is surprised about how bad we’re doing, and those are the ones that trolled the T1 forums and JQ LA weeks ago.
You guys have been in the T1 matchup so long you may have lost some perspective. You can ask SoR, TC, and SoS now…T1 is a different beast, and nobody outside of T1 has a chance. So should T1 servers feel so great about beating DB down? No, I think they should feel bad for letting us have even +1 PPT.
(edited by Eviator.9746)
and here comes the backpedaling…
QQ’ing EMPer “boo hoo you left us”
RE guy " yeah and you’ve been a dumped girlfriend since, lets fight it out"
QQ’ing EMPer"well erm, no we’re too weak to fight you"
Everyone on the forums “lawl, thats pathetic. maybe Noodles and Lee made the right choice to drop the dead weight”
I didn’t expect that response from BP (maybe Calvin), what I thought was a classy core DB guild. I mean yeah we were all thinking it, so you didn’t have to lower yourself to say it.
(edited by Eviator.9746)
As a transfer to DB during the free transfer period, I can say the forums have been full of hate toward DB. Before T2 it was always hatred of our SEA coverage. Since T2 it’s been hatred of our transfers. Unfortunately, the hatred is expressed toward all of DB, and not individuals, and that leaks onto the battlefield.
To me part of the fun of playing games is enjoying some kind of sportsmanship between opponents. It reminds me that there are real people on the other side of those red name tags, people like me. But there has been very little sportsmanship lately, and it makes sad because I feel I’m playing against spoiled little children with big egos. Frankly, if you are full of hate, or if your forum posts are, I fear for your soul. You may claim innocence, saying “It’s all in good fun”, but that is a lie. It’s a reflection of who you really are.
Finally I get to PWN raw.
I love you anet!
Classy
I was expecting more out of DB after posting in the T1 thread all the time saying they were going to jump to T1 in all the previous weeks.
So you believed the trolls? How foolish.
Just spent 45 minutes taking back a reinforced tower from Mag in DB BL. We were 30 vs. 10 or so, but our fairweathers, probably at least 20 of the 30, all they did was PvD. We couldn’t get them to do anything useful. I think it was a language barrier. but now I have an understanding of why Mag and SBI say DB is less skilled.
Played around with a build that may be similar to yours. First time using bomb kit and elixir gun in WvW, and I’m LOVING it! I’ve been playing Mask’s build and tankcat, but this playstyle is much more fun.
Looking at the numbers max might stacks seems to give him 200 to 300 extra DPS. Not substantial if one is giving up a fair amount of survivability. But his build isn’t just about the might. He wants boon duration for the other boons too, and HGH synergizes with that. If you don’t want to monitor boons, an elixir-based build definitely doesn’t make sense.
Terrific play Joe! Looks like lots of fun. Question on sigils in video 3: Life, Corruption, or something else? How about your favorite consumables?
Let me be the anti-Calvin. I’m on DB and I run away from 1v1s because if I stay and fight, I am nearly guaranteed to lose. I’ve had many many red tagged-players laugh over my downed body. It makes me sad.
P.S. this isn’t a troll post or sarcasm. It’s all true.
(edited by Eviator.9746)
You guys are missing a huge opportunity here. See if ANet thinks BOB/Elixir X combo is overpowered, then it will be nerfed, so they’ll leave everything else alone for another month.
Another great video! I’ve run your old build for a few months now, and somehow I rarely win 1v1s, let alone 1v2+s, even back before the April patch. It’s obviously a PEBKAC thing. But I’m curious about a couple things.
1) How do you think your old build stacks up against your new build given the changes to IP and and confusion. I mean obviously the older build does less damage than it used to, but do you consider it inferior to your new build?
2) Your videos are obviously your successful fights, but how much of the time are your fights unsuccessful? How often do you bail on fights that aren’t going your way?
3) How are you so awesome!?!?
Moral of the story: Make sure you know EVERYTHING about a server before transferring to it.
That’s silly, then nobody would ever transfer. Drama is unavoidable, even on TC.
I’m on DB. I wasn’t there. But Dekar is only telling his side of a multi-sided story. If you believe what he said without question, you are naive. I’m sure what Dekar said is factual, but it’s also incomplete.
One thing many have to realize is that DB doesn’t have the experience in T1 and T2 to coordinate guilds and tactics. Until reaching T2, the standard strategy is good enough:
The above strategy, plus our ridiculously large SEA presence, got us into T2, at which point a bunch of new, large, experienced guilds joined DB. The new guilds, hoping to make us competitive in T2 and maybe T1, wanted to change things, make DB more organized. It’s a wonderful idea, but it’s difficult to pull off when the non-transfers are used to doing things a different way. The original guilds have been adjusting to the new way of doing things under the prospects of better performance. Most have adapted quite well. Some individuals have not.
Is it so unusual that there is some resistance? Online gaming is full of people with big egos. Big egos don’t budge. It’s clear to me now that any server with strict and structured internal organization is going to end up with drama. Dekar’s experience is a manifestation of that.
To the original DB guilds: Let’s keep DB drama-free, like it used to be.
To the new DB guilds: Thanks for coming to DB, but if it’s not a good fit, good luck on whatever server you transfer to.
To trolls from other servers: I have erased what I was going to say here several times because I don’t want to be reported. Suffice it to say, mind your own business, be a man, and stop fanning the flames.
