My first thought was being angry i didn’t know about the change and didn’t get a tag before it.
My second thought was that i really don’t command period so i don’t actually need it.
It’s funny how many people run around with tags, and yet how difficult it can be to get a commander online in WvW(this is talking about Far shiverpeeks BTW)
Everything has pro’s and cons
In this case the best solution would have been making the lords like players, when rezzed by a banner they appear with diminished health till after the 3rd? time they just die and can’t be bannered.
Anyway though this change isn’t the best solution, i think it’s way better then having rez wars with big massive blobs full with FX thrown at your eyeballs for hours
Does it work on siege golems? otherwise i can see golem sieges becoming more popular
Still most of the time for some reason whenever I WvW and were bashing a door open noone’s home
I agree that low levels are much harsher now, the tools that aid you during it are now locked, IS THERE A REASON??? If your going to play an MMO get used to having many skills, and that said GW2 has way less then most MMO’s to begin with.
I don’t think I’ll go as far as saying this game shouldn’t be bought, but saying Leveling isn’t a chore now would be a lie, leveling was actually fun in this game….
I had an Aegis stuck threw my body today, i felt very safe with that lol :P
We should have an option to turn off buff auras i guess
It wouldn’t be bad to have some class devs from Anet here talking and discussing possible changes of the classes as that would help in knowing what might come and what people would like to see.
All it takes is a little time, the devs making a few threads and making sure trolls are kept out of them
My Level 1 character was stupid, but then he took some scrolls of knowledge and he was OK
The damage is absurdly OP considering it’s ranged damage, thief dual wielding in the beta wasn’t this bad.
Then again I’m having fun on a pistol/shield engineer, 10K burst damage? thanks I’ll reflect it right back at your face.
I play as an Engineer and that on that map i’m a double edged sword, it’s not that hard to magnet pull someone and kill them with it, but at the same time engineers have no stability from what i can see, making them an easy target as well.
Don’t underestimate necro’s though, a nice fear can send you walking over the edge
I guess going back to my lower leveled chars i noticed that even in PVP the third Yellow trait is locked in every line, why is this? i can understand in normal play, but this is just ridiculous
DO i now how to level my PVP chars to get my traits unlocked? i can’t buy them from a trainer at these levels and i never intended to actually take the ones i PVP with outside PVP
So can anyone tell me why this is?
Not incluiding crafting it took me about 15G’s to get my engineer up in exotic gear, runes incluided, however this was buying the gear in WvW, so you need the badges of honor, wich are easy to get in the edges.
If your talking about sPVP the downed state still exists, however there have been many changes since release(i came back about a month ago after being absent for over a year after release)
The main thing were the heavy thief nerfs(no more 10K backstabs on a heavy) necros got smarter and go for tankyness combined with conditions, and most warriors stopped running 100b and started going tanky as well.
Downed state does still exist, though i just find it strong on necro’s, mesmers and thiefs.
Necro’s because they can deal a ton of damage being downed, and thiefs/mesmers because they are hard to kill being downed(as in avoiding finisher moves)
Still it’s managable, there are a few new maps as well.
Keep in mind, Guild wars 2 isn’t a normal MMO, if you have played other MMO’s you’d recall that as the game goes on the leveling is more and more difficult, this isn’t the case in guild wars.
Though the first few levels are generally faster, the rest doesn’t scale too much higher, so it won’t take that long to reach 80, a few weeks in general, it kinda depends on what you play.
Edges of the mists for instance can give massive XP if your just basically karma farming the crap out of empty towers, i did manage to get 3 levels in an hour before, though much depends on the comander.
This was a problem in the start of GW2 as well, a PVE player with no expirience would be a commander.
I would like to suggest that both a rank would be required as well as removing the gold cost, and adding a harsh badges of honor cost.
Just a few things to keep in mind:
-Towers and keeps can be a pain to defend just because of trebs, you can shoot from one tower to the other, and there is little to be done, whoever has more supplies, or trebs wins.
-Defending isn’t profitable, you can say whatever you want, but people want rewards, some people want them as fast as posible, or as big as posible, defending a keep for an hour isn’t nearly as profitable as taking 2 undefended towers(unless your maybe on an AC and are able to just nuke a zerg the whole time)
- It’s player mentality not Anet, keep in mind that players decide to zerg, if a zerg were to split up in 4 groups a zerg, no matter it’s size, cannot defend 4 places at the same time and would have to split up.
More examples can be mentioned, i doubt zergs are gonna stop any time soon
Personally, some siege is crap, some siege is OP, currently in Far shiverpeeks we don’t even defend anymore, when we get SM we will just leave it, i mean if we try were just going to be trebbed by Tier 3 towers defended by a zerg.
I find that SM though huge with lots of defenses can be one of the least defendable places of them all, though the inner walls can’t be taken down, the outer walls seem kinda useless, being both attackable from about anywhere, and being to big to fully defend, as a zerg can just move locations.
I think this should be allowed, using enemy siege engines against them would be great, though it would be strange, imagen a outside hill fight, you knock your oppenents of the AC and then use it immediatly against them, i’m not sure if it would be funny, or bring issues.
Engineers can be great, though it might not be optimal for WvW keep in mind that engineers are one of the best healers out there, considering turrets and elixer gun, a lot of regeneration can be poured out, and granades though their damage isn’t stunning, the vurnabilities and conditions with traits can really make a diffrence.
That said, i don’t think granades are great in an open zerg vs zerg fight though, they are better for defending or sieging considering their 1500 range with traits, funny as it may sound, when i charge with the engineer threw a zerg to the back of it, in general i’d use a flametrower.
Thief is one of the most mobile characters, mesmers will remind you of leblanc in League, they just screw with your mind, i’ve seen mesmers kite 10 players for a good 5 minutes or longer in WvW before(at which point people were just AOE bombing the place to get to them)
Engineers have a lot of tools and playstyles, however, i do think their not too flashy they have nice visuals though they have some mobility, but that depends if you want to use the utility slots for that mobility.
Keep in mind, warriors and Guardians can still leap as well, about every class can be fairly mobile, thiefs and mesmers seem to excell in it, teleporting around, or screwing with your mind, your call.
I can see the CPU being a bit of an issue.
However what do you mean with “managable FPS?”
I use the same GPU as you are, i do have an I5 3570 3.4Ghz Quad-core and although i get an easy 60FPS with everything maxed out running around with 40+ players in WvW, whene the fights start my FPS drops easely to 20-25, a fairly lagish situation.
Although on that part, the game is kinda managable, i tried tinkering with the graphics but they don’t really affect the FPS in that situation, in general rendering that many animations is harsh on most systems
After a year or so absence of guild wars i’m loving the game again, and i’m looking for a new guild in the far shiverpeeks.
I’m looking for a guild that does PVE and/or WvW and said guild to be mature, preferably +18 only TS/Ventrillo isn’t optional in my opinion.
I’d prefer a UK based guild
Right now i can complete dungeons in explorable mode while having BLUE gear.
And you think that’s a bad thing? That your skill matters more than your gear?
If you do (if you want gear stats to be the deciding factors), there are plenty of games out there you’d enjoy more than Guild Wars.
I’m not saying it should be a deciding factor, i’ve played games in the past where it was all about the gear, however the difference is, that in GW2 i don’t tell the difference in difficulty with blue gear to exotic gear.
Ex
I did COE submarine run yesterday as an Engineer in a pug group.
We had myself as an engineer, a necro and 3 thieves.
We survived with few deaths, but we were downed 24/7
There are a few places in that run that would go faster with a tankish profesion.
The alpha is an example.
Ex
Dungeons in this game aren’t hard to complete.
They require no real coordination or cooperation to finish them.
There are no boss mechanics in the game, you just simply survive and ditch out dps and get rewarded for it.
Being 2-shoted in a boss fight doesn’t depend on the difficulty but on the mechanic.
I don’t want dungeons to be more difficult, i want them to have a dungeon mechanic in boss fights, ways needed to defeat bosses.
Right now i can complete dungeons in explorable mode while having BLUE gear.
Anet also replaced grinding for better gear to grinding for something that looks shiny…..
Ex
I had high expectations from GW2 dungeons, i was expecting boss mechanics.
Different ways that needed to be discovered, coordination in the group.
However here it’s just about the quantity of DPS, with someone to support, or having a heavy class playing tank style with a bunch of support on him.
I feel like dungeons are repetitive in the way of how you complete them.
Explorable dungeons being able to be done by pug groups even bugs me more, there isn’t anything difficult about them, sure you have to move out of the way if you don’t want to be 2-shoted, but that’s it….
I’d really wish that Anet worked on boss mechanics, instead of having no tactic involved in a fight, just plain DPS….

Let you on to a secret: The BEST defence against seige machine bombardment
in WvW
Posted by: Exeon.4358
So basically you just made Anet aware what they should fix next in WvW
Ex
I somehow never have an issue with thieves in WvW.
sPvP is getting a bit harder, but in WvW most of them just spam heartseeker when i have 100% health.
For myself it depends on the situacion, i’m having issues with the warriors burst damage on the ground, engineers can really do some damage both defending and attacking with the granade kit, due to granades being in the air while trowing the next set.
Ex
It’s gotten worse, before it was just invisible enemies on the walls once in a while.
Now we have incoming invisible zergs till they hit you on the face.
Even when players are downed the only way i can see they are is because of the red arrow on their face when they are downed.
I have no clue what made it worse, but it’s really a setback from doing WvW
Ex
Well i still agree that having WvW shut down during some downtime hours is ridiculous.
However it’s been suggested to change the point gain system during downtimes, i can understand that someone’s time isn’t more important then another person.
However if Anet makes the point gain system in direct link with the quantity of opposing players online it would be much fairer.
Why would claiming and holding keeps against 10 players reward the same as if you were defending them against a full opponent(s) server?
It hardly takes the same skill to claim against NPC’s so imo rewards in points should be less.
Also, neither the Australian players, nor the Canadian players have a server of their own to play in, thus disrupting the times in WvW when their prime-time is coming up
Though maybe a bit more radical i would suggest that both mentioned get a server of their own, and get ACTUAL REWARDS for joining and staying on that server.
No player would leave on his own account unless he’d be rewarded for it, the same thing counts with the whole server unbalancing issue.
Letting players solve those issues on their own isn’t getting anything done.
Ex
No this isn’t a “nerf this” “revamp that” suggestion.
sPvP is very fun and it’s fairly popular, however there aren’t any real rewards from doing it.
Sure you can get epic looking armor but it’s only cosmetically usable in sPvP.
You don’t “enhance” your character in sPvP, which would seem normal since everything is ubertight balanced(not talking about proffesion vs proffesion but the items available)
However i suggest that sPvP enables the player to level up, gain karma and money.
I’m NOT suggesting that any of this influences in-combat, only that we’re rewarded from doing sPvP as we are from doing WvW.
Many players i talk to though they like sPvP they find it pointless to spend most of their time in it because they like to improve their character from the actions they do.
So just like WvW I’d like to see XP/Karma/Coin awards from doing sPvP.
Defending/assaulting control points could be made as “events” which reward these things, as well as winning matches and ranking up.
I could as well say “killing” should reward as well, but in that case the rewards shouldn’t be picked up from the ground…..
Thoughts?
Ex
I’m liking these suggestions and i agree with them.
As engineer i agree that the 1-skill should be auto-attack.
Furthermore I’d like to add(while we’re talking auto-attack) that when switching to the flametrower or the elixer gun the “1” skill is automatically on auto-attack.
Having to manually do it is a pain while being in-combat…..
Ex
Got to LVL80 and feel like you character should have had a different skin color, or a different hair style?
I’ve had this before in the past, in other MMO’s i have been used to there being a way to change “some” appearances of your character.
Usually skin color, hair style and color is changeable….
However in GW2 there is no such thing, I’d like to see something added that allows players to change the appearance of their character, if it were some kind of a “barber” or an item in the gem store i don’t care but i believe there should be a way to change the appearance…
Thoughts?
Ex
I’m currently looking for an active guild that focuses on sPvP in the Far shiverpeeks server.
I’m mainly looking for a mature guild(preferably +18) with a voice server(Ts or vent, skype doesn’t count and mumble has quality issues)
Ex
Well i am glad Anet is listing(unlike other MMO devs)
I do say that in the past weeks i have seen radical suggestions, like not being able to get in during the “server timezone off time” or being kicked from WvW when there are big population differences.
These aren’t “solutions” since they remove one problem and open many more problems.
I am fairly glad on this part:
.This is not saying that we are against any adjustment to scoring, or against developing another mechanic to improve the capping system. This is simply saying that we will not be changing WvW based on some players’ idea of off time hours.
It leaves open balancing options for unbalanced populations without restraining other players to play based on something they can’t change.
I would like to see real suggestions from other players who believe balancing is required, changing the point income based on population differences seems fairly good, tough i believe if enough good, viable suggestions are giving we might come up with something that is indeed a win win solution.
Ex
No, I care about the entire 24 hour cycle, not just the time when I play. Each timezone’s peak impacts everyone elses peak and the overall scoring of the match. Steps need to be taken to make sure that the matches stay competitive even if the timezone for many of the servers is vacant.
Furthermore, the top servers need to stop pretending that their tactics, individual skill, or organization level is better than anyone elses. One thing that I see consistently throughout the 24 hour and nw the 1 week matches is that everyones playing at basically the same level and that its population at off hours that turns the matches.
I agree completely with what’s being said above.
Personally i see some players already threatening on the forums to go back to their old games, and saying things involving the death of GW2 WvW.
I think it’s a bit radical to already come to such thoughts after exactly a month(it’s the 28th today)
The game isn’t perfect, and it will never be perfect, however i believe Anet will do what they can to solve as many issues as they can.
I’m hardly a fan of the response made by Anet, and i hope this view may change maybe as Anet looks further into this.
But like i said before, we’re a month further since launce, so i do have faith WvW issues, not only this one(badges, commander status, PvE in WvW etc….) will be looking into or fixed.
Ex
Just saying, there have been suggestions to fixing the issue, the one I’ve seen that makes the most sense has been the one of “bubasparks” who suggest A FEW POSTS AGO to decrease point gain when the server population is very unbalanced…
Before people state “Stop whining and find a solution” read the posts THAT STATE POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS.
In so many of these posts i see “arguments” that have been contested in previous posts.
And i couldn’t not quote this:
It’s always the same people QQ’ing about the same issue. For Pete’s sake just give it a rest.
So many lies and half-truths also being told.
- ….“a minority of the population that log on the cap everything while 90% of the playerbase sleeps.” ? Really – rubbbish. 90% ay? Have you ever played in other peoples prime? It’s definitely not walking around an empty borderlands capping keep as we sing rock anthems. Apart from the rock anthems bit, it never happens. Perhaps you should look at improving the quality of your night crew, because numbers are more often than not spread amongst all three sides (there are some exceptions, but on my server (IoJ) in our Oceanic prime we have never faced empty servers, not once throughout the 24hr and 1 week matchups). It just a bunch of ill-informed lies.
- “tons of people are complaining” – not true. The same tiny minority of players are complaining. The VAST majority of players who play in the same timezone as the whiners are not complaining. They are the majority and they actually seem to be having fun in WvWvW (even though the sheer amount of posts by this same group of peopole would have you believe this is impossible).
- “It’s not fun after day two.” – Your opinion. The thousands of people in WvWvW all the way through the week would disagree.
- “Even a medium population server should be able to fill most battlegrounds.” – If this is the case (posted by one of the most vocal and frequent posters for the anti-nightcapping minority) then what is the problem. If even medium servers can fill the queues and negate the large population how can you argue that nightcapping is an issue? Credibility = 0.
I’m going to break this one down:
1- No rubish, i recall just a few nights ago on the VS borderlands where myself and 5 guild-mates were defending what was left of the FS control, in the end at 2-3AM we were the only 6 players defending the last tower against 40 incoming VS players, it was quite fun a good “last stand” moment.
When prime-time ends on FS the players slowly gather on EB to make their stand till there is literally noone logged in that isn’t using a auto-mouse mover to keep AFK in WvW
2- There are quite some players complaining about this issue, the main thing is who’s confronted with the issue? because FS keeps fighting against VS because we are second we’re the only ones that are CONSTANTLY having the issue.
I’m mostly seeing counterarguments from players that don’t have this issue and classify it as “whining”
3- When the main playerbase is online from 9AM-11PM GTM +1 then there are hardly players online between 11PM-9AM.
If in WvW your fighting a server that has players with a primetime between those hours you get something called nightcapping…..
Like i stated before, i won’t lose any sleep over it, but if your gonna make an argument, get your facts right.
Ex
I think it’s just frustrating for competitive players.
I play WvW in far shiverpeeks quite a lot, now we’ve gotten to a point where many now state in-game they want to be 3rd this week so they don’t have to fight against VS again, since it’s getting repetitive.
What i’m seeing is the following: whenever there is high time in FS we cap quite a few things and are fairly dominant in WvW, if there wasn’t any nightcapping we would be on the first place, competitive players are bothered, i believe they just want the glory for their hard work, and i believe they feel it’s unfair VS is known as the “best” EU WvW server while they gained this by killing NCP’s and not players.
I can see the point of these players, and why they complain about it, whether Anet does something about the outnumbered buff or not, i won’t lose any sleep over it.
However i do wonder, if Anet says that nightcapping is a game mechanic, why don’t we ever have US vs EU then?
Ex
This is just something happening for quite some time now on the DE borderlands garrison keep.
Today again we went in, were about to capture it and then this happens:
So we haven’t been able to claim this keep at all….i wonder besides Anet needing to fix this is there anything that we can do to make the lord take damage again?
Ex
Haven’t played Necro or Elementalist, in sPvP yet, did play Engineer and i had no issues beating thieves.
Ex
There are many other videos on youtube explaining how to effectively spam Heartseeker. (lol)
All professions are punished when they meet a good player, but obviously an extremely good Necromancer/Elementalist/Engeneer/Ranger will never defeat an extremely good Thief.
1- Most of those videos are outdated or have old content.
Heartseeker was nerfed, and i still laugh at bad thieves spamming it when your at full health, the attack does around 2K damage when your at full health, the max I’ve done was 6K crit on a light armored, from behind when he had less then 25% health.
Dancing dagger does far more damage at full health, up to 4.5K and it’s a bouncing between enemies attack + criple….
I beg to differ, I’ve seen good thieves that i know are good take a beating from both epic necros and Engineers, rangers not that much since they are fairly an easy pray.
However CCing a thief is one of the easiest way to kill him, and if he stealth’s as a engineer or necro NUKE THE PLACE, put down traps, trow grenades, use your flamethrower….. playing my engineer i hardly had any issue with beating thieves, i constantly blind and immobolise them.
You can say a Thief is an easy class to play, it sure is against bad players, spamming heartseeker against them does the job, however it takes more then that to be a good thief, you would know it if you played such a glass cannon profession.
If your a warrior, 100B or Eviscerate can easily take down any thief.
Ex
Personally with a thief I’ve had no real issues against mesmers.
Sure once in a while you will have an epic mesmer which is quite hard to spot between his illusions….
However i did come up with a personal solution to this.
Whenever i can’t figure out whom the mesmer is ill either use dancing dagger or dagger storm.
It takes a few second and there will be no illusion standing, usually you will easily spot the real one slowly walking backward, then you just steal and do your thing
Ex
Just stating a thief’s point of view.
Personally i don’t care much about stealth, the only reasons i “mainly” stealth is because in stealth i can use backstab and it becomes a 100% crit chance(with the trait)
I’ve rarely seen thieves that attack me from stealth directly….
Usually it’s Steal – cloak and dagger – Assasins signet – backstab – heartseeker -
Ex
This thread is more out of curiosity then anything else.
I’m wondering how other players score’s are looking(at high peeks)
Note: regarding the scores that may or may not be posted, don’t come here whining about professions are their balance, there are plenty of threads about them to whine in.
(edited by Exeon.4358)
To the OP, you do know that Anet stated server transfers would cost gems and would have a 2 week waiting, however not from the start of the game?
If this is just because you want to play with 2 groups of friends, note that you will have to choose
Ex
I agree make it happen
Simple solution::
Make it so taxes are optional.. BUT players that’re NOT contributing to “the cause” via keeping their tax toggled “off” ~ will simply NOT receive any buffs/boons/perks from said Guild “progress”.This is a win/win.
Players that aren’t interested, don’t have to pay and players that’re working hard won’t feel like they’re being “leeched off”.~ just my 2 cents ~
However you already support your guild with the influence you get for them.
The perks are payed from everyone’s influence, so i would say this is unfair
ex
Well, humans dislike any taxes, i doubt they would like guild taxes.
However it’s a solid idea, i would rather see something like “donations” and you could see what we have and what the money is being spent on as well.
Ex
I actually have to agree, Arenanet did say that WvW, sPvP and PvE would be all seperated from each other, so that one doens’t bog down the other.
sPvP knows it’s own currency for buying boxes called “honor”
I’m not entirely sure it should be called “contribution” but your idea seems much to the point, and i’d like to see it.
