Great story! Yes people do underestimate pets, which is fine by me. Just gives us more opportunities to let the little kitty have a Mesmer lunch.
See you in Tyria.
SNIPFU!!!! Apologize for the double link, it is now fixed.
@ Gotejjeken You are correct that I have to watch out for hammer warriors. I will swap to RaO if I see a hammer warrior incoming and pop it before they get to me. I can also use the spider immob on them with axe to lock them down first, but my timing has to be pretty good. Sometimes it works, sometimes I’m too slow but hey I’m 40 so I’m allowed a few mistakes Also, Shared Anguish gives me another safety net in case I get jumped.
The adventurer runes allow me to drop the SoH since the 25% speed bonus is permanent. But you can run with SoH and swap it before you engage in combat. Also with 3K armor I don’t really need SoS. It does help the pet but I swap my pets when they hit about 40% health so I can keep them alive.
Lastly, remember you can swap to different traits before you get into a fight. Always take a moment to investigate the situation before you engage and adjust accordingly.

I’ve wanted to incorporate traps more into my ranger play. So, I decided to throw convention to the wind and just “try out some builds” and see what works. My first stab at it was modifying Xsorus’ BM bunker build, found here http://en.gw2skills.net/editor/?fMAQRAnf8YnAVkYZlFWBxaZgYVAQtHTy8Y69I9rv9lMqmA-j0BBoODimkO0kHBKTqIasFTFRjVPjIqWvETKgFlGB-w.
I moved the BM traits into Skirmishing for the trap enhancement traits and kept everything else the same. Result – It actually was pretty interesting. I can lay down a dolyack load of conditions. Typical Axe/Torch start, opponent enters melee, drop traps, swap to sword-keep you opponent crippled with sword AA, opponent freaks out and looks for the necro who just condi bombed them, pet helps eat opponent, opponent runs away or dies and realizes there was no necro and thinks “WTH was that?”
Armor and health are high enough to endure burst and coni bombs. Empathic Bond keeps conditions off rather well though I sometimes augment it with Lemon Grass/Poultry Leek soup depending on the situation (SM zerg fest). I can 1v2 and even took on 4 opponents, thanks to the traps, but had to run in and out of the tower to juke around with them. I miss the healing but it isn’t too bad, I just can’t use it as a crutch any more. I cannot pursue.
Traits:
Adjust adept traits to your liking. Swap Empathic bond and Bark Skin as needed.
Skills:
Traps. Mix and match as you like. Fire Trap is good in small group fight when using warhorn blast finisher to gain some might.
Signet of Renewal – I haven’t really needed it and I prefer a trap over it. However, I do revisit its use on occasion.
Master Skills:
Use RAO against opponents that will lock you down i.e. Hammer Time warriors. Entangle is a great AoE and lockdown. I don’t have the Mistfire Wolf but I hear its chill is pretty amazing.
Buffs:
Rare Veggie Pizza/Koi Cakes for condition duration. Lemon Grass/Poultry Leek soup for condition reduction. Tuning Crystals for condition damage increase or Toxic Fusing Crystal for a 10% increase in condition duration while only losing 68 condition damage.
Use and separate weapon set to build corruption stacks.
Pets
Since the BM traits where removed I picked pets that have more inherent survivability. Spiders work great with a 6 second immobilize and they stay back. Canines are not bad with the knock downs and 4 second fear or cripple they can apply. Lynx has a nasty bleed and snow leopard’s Icy Pounce can drop a 4 sec chill, BUT they are squishy. Marsh drakes…oh those green stinkers. With Malicious Training they belch out a 6 second, 7K, target tracking poison field. (TY to Durzlla & Fox’s podcast for pointing that out.) Regen warriors will hate you and sob for their mommas.
Traps and bunker add a different dimension of play. I can still roam quickly thanks to the runes. I can still solo camps and if I’m in a small group I’ll swap to war horn to make use of the blast fields the traps make. I really enjoy being able to constantly keep up conditions if a weapon skill is on cool down. It has a flavor of a grenade/bomb engineer, since you can “throw” traps 600 units or drop them at your feet while fighting around opponents, yet still plays like a tough rascal.
Final weird though – LB rangers annoy me with this build ‘cause I have to gap close. Ironic huh?
Thoughts, improvements, good jokes, please let them be known and enjoy the build.

I like this build very much and I am a big fan of Piercing Arrows. People underestimate how potent it can be. Sun spirit – chance to burn every target the arrow passes through. You can spread poison to multiple opponents with SB#2 and SB#3-5 are automatic physical projectiles: get in a field, and proc a combo.
I’m going to try this out in some pick-up groups and play around.
Thank you for posting.
See you in Tyria.
Quoted for great justice!
The other option is turn off auto-attack. I personally love how I stick to opponents and cripple them so my pet can stick to them. I guess I use it more for a “burn phase” if you would.
See you in Tyria.
I’m loving rifle so I’ve gone power mostly. Wolfineer has a great site on reddit that explains many builds.

1) No Horizontal Progression. Hobo sacks eliminate a huge point of “end game” content
2) High Effort – Low effect: If you can be a decent Engineer you could be an amazing <Any Thing else> and probably be more effective
Wow, sounds like the ranger forum.

Come to Anvil Rock, we have a few spirit zoo rangers. I run one sometimes depending on the group I’m running with.

Well here is one new engineer to add to your ranks!
I’ve played guardian, ranger, warrior, etc and I’ve finally come to engineer…….WHERE YOU BEEN ALL MY GW2 LIFE!?!?! I am loving this profession. It takes a bit to get all the nuances but explosions and guns, and bombs, and bigger explosions. Slick shoes, oh my I love slick shoes on the back line of an opposing WvW zerg then droppin’ Big Ole Bomb. Oh – personal battering ram when contesting points in PvP is pure troll.
Anyways I find the juggling between kits, gadgets, weapons, etc. to just be amazingly fun. Here is to many a happy engineer gaming session!

If you want it to stop the jump animation that roots you, turn off “auto-attack.”

I rolled a female charr engineer and she is great! I couldn’t wait to get her a hat and deck her out but as I played, one thing REALLY annoyed me: the sound she makes when she uses rifle #5 and rocket boots.
I’ll do my best to type out what it sounds like – HE HA HRAH HA HUUHHH! (insert grunt about 2/3 the way in) It does not match her in any way, it does not synch, she could almost be giving birth the way she sounds.
Does this bug anyone else?
Needless to say, after hearing it over and over, I just couldn’t take it. (Yes, I use rocket boots and rifle a lot). She has retired from legion service. I want an engineer but humans…ehh, sylvari NO!, norn MORE NO!. Asura is the only other viable option for me.
But I really want a charr engineer…maybe I can try a male charr since the new faces are out.
See you in Tyria.
Poison. Crippling should be saved as a defensive move or to slow an opponent’s escape.

Good words Chaos. The more I learn, the more I realize I really don’t know everything.
See you in Tyria.
Come on people think big! We want…DRAGONS!
Fire: Burninator – applies 3,000 burning damage over 8 seconds.
Death: Zombification – raise a fallen player as an undead pet.
Ice: Siberian Sarcophagus – everything is encased in ice (600 radius). Everything.
Crystal: Chaos Hurricane – think chaos storm x10 in magnitude.
See you in Tyria.
Play what you enjoy. You will be good at it because you’ll want to learn more about it and be the best at it. Ranger was the last class I tried because I didn’t think I would like it, but lo and behold, my lil’ Asurn ranger is my only level 80 toon. Go figure, it’s just fun to play.
See you in Tyria.
Don’t bother with Mesmer Runes
You won’t be able to get to a 3 second daze with them + Moment of Clarity
As for fear, we do have access to it via the boar pet, we have basically the warrior version of fear me and with 70% bonus duration from conditions, the bloody thing is 9 seconds long with Moment of Clarity.
Ah, good point. The game engine does not round up. I’m going to try the fear in PvP soon just to see what I can do. I have to admit though, locking down people is a fun high risk/high reward play style.
Now we just need to get the flamingo rex pink moa bird to immediately fire off its scream as soon as we hit F2. But different discussion, different time.
See you in Tyria.
Unfortunately, “fight club” duels are occurring on the field of battle. Those will be disrupted when we see them, they are a distraction and in some cases responsible for passing tactical information to our opponents. It’s nothing personal, but dueling in the open field isn’t going to cut it with the train.
lol the “train” i like that. It better to get run over quickly than to think you got a chance of escape lol
Kinda like this…

mini-golems.
I’m surprised Scarlet hasn’t high-jacked the toys yet and made a “screaming golem princess.” That would be a nightmare.
See you in Tyria.
If you run Mesmer runes also pick up some sigs of paralyzation for total lock down.
I hadn’t thought about paralyze sigs…15%+33% on top of a duo of two second stuns, both on a 20 sec CD (when traited). Oh, this could just be nasty.
See you in Tyria.
Does anyone know if superior runes of the mesmer’s sixth bonus correctly affects Hilt Bash and Concussion Shot? Trying to work out a build using the six rune bonus plus Moment of Clarity to see how long a daze I can get. Couple this with ice sigil(s) on a bow and some frosty pets and it sounds like a good bit of CC.

Just want to say “Great Honors” to the red hammer warrior I fought in the dredge area in EB last night around midnight eastern time. You gave me one heck of a fight and it was fantastic, on the edge. Loved it. I didn’t get your guild or server ’cause the fight was that intense. Look forward to meeting you again.

I saw this on reddit and had to share. According to the author, it should be the faster ranger solo Lupi kill. Didn’t see his build but he ran GS, A/A. Well done and congrats to him on good solo.

Because I’m feeling ornery. Do play a ranger in WvW!
1. You’re the first target in our group.
2. You have little to none escape skills.
3. You can either play a bunker build and kill NO ONE, or Play a zerker build and die in 1 shot.
4. Everyone else knows rangers suck and will come after you immediately
5. Your pet ain’t gonna do anything except run around in circles and disobey commanders.
6. Anyone who says otherwise obviously don’t play wvw too often on a ranger.
1-Any group that runs through another group to just get the ranger is lacking in mental capacity.
2-Sword #2, Sword #3, even Sword #1 if you are awesome. GS #2, SB, #3, LB #3 and 4. Lighting Reflexes, Muddy Terrain, Hide in Plain Sight, Shared Anguish.
3-I play both. I kill with conditions and pet as a bunker and I stay alive for long periods of time as a zerk (see answer to number #2).
4-I know they don’t suck. Again, who sacrifices formation to kill one person/class?
5-Except for pet roots, knockdowns, cripples, chills, buffs to ranger and aoe effects.
6-I leveled my ranger to 80 in WvW on Anvil Rock
See you in Tyria.
That was just…..beautiful.

He said one of the things that hinders LB is that you have to be at max range to maximize it damage but max range will put you out of range of many party buffs. Catch 22 huh. He prefers to run SB on zerk builds.
See you in Tyria.
Long live BM! (though it is a shadow of its former glory) Great play as always and to be honest I still prefer BM over anything else I’ve played…I just need to switch back.
Again, great video, very enjoyable to watch.

Why can’t we get a land shark? (:p) Sharks are the coolest pet we can get currently.
We do have landsharks.
Oh, how I miss the landshark. Some things should never be patched.
Patched? This was a couple nights ago.
Really?! I thought it was patched a year ago or something. If I remember you’d summon in water and then attacked something on land while still under water. Follow the shark and as it went to attack and it staid out. Is that how you did it?

Well the nightmare court are arrogant and love inflicting pain, misery, fear, etc. on others and in the dream. Krait sound like perfect viscous buddies for them or better yet teachers.
But the real question is…
Why are the krait glowing? Did they eat some Sylvari courtiers an gain their bioluminescence?

Loved it. Thanks for posting.

What if we were able to train bears to do the below attack? Maybe that would make them more viable.

Patience is not an absence of action;
rather it is “timing”
it waits on the right time to act…

Good stuff! Picked up a few tricks I didn’t know about.
On a different note, the more I play and level my thief, the more I like the tactics needed to successfully engage and adversary and to survive. You really have to be on your toes and react correctly or it’s “Game Over Man!”
Thanks for posting.

Great video. a good amount of things to learn for a new thief like myself.
If you don’t mind me asking, what type of weapons are you using (Carrion, Rabid, Giver, Dire) and what sigils?
My entire build is in literally the first minute of the video lol.
AH! I missed the weapons. They go by quickly as you pan right to your trinkets. Thank you kindly.

Yes, anet nerfed ele’s into the ground and they are worthless now.
As for the guy who says his ele does more damage than warriors: No, you don’t. Stop the lies.

Over at GW2Guru there’s a post outlining how much damage staff elementalists can pump out.

Also, at the below post, comment #30, Guang crunches the numbers for each class with max buffs. Elementalists came in third at ~13K DPS; warriors are sixth ~10K DPS.
In comment #35 he explains the criteria/conditions needed to achieve that amount.

Taco Thief Gunslinger!
I love it. Taquito inspired me to make a gunslinger also and I’ve been leveling it up P/P so I can get proficient. Wearing only power and precision gear really makes one keep on their toes.
I dueled a friend from NSP recently who took my build and tweaked it to include venoms. It worked surprisingly well and those duels were some of the most fun I’ve ever had in GW2.
Oh really! Please do share your “tweeks”. Skale, Ice or Devouerer? Devourer and Skale sound really nasty.

I could have missed the discussion but we seem to be focusing in on thieves only when talking about “reveal stealth.” Wouldn’t this also affect ranger stealth, mass invis and decoy from Memsers, elixir S and stealth caused by blast finishers? Also, will it affect just one person or AoE? I think it would be hilarious to catch a small group getting stealthed only to have my pet run up and remove it from them.
