See you in Tyria.
I already said it once much earlier on in this thread … but I want to reiterate my respect for Robert Hrouda coming to these forums. He basically entered the lions den.
The honest feedback and responses we are getting in this thread are great. Interaction with a dev about a core ranger mechanic … really cool.
This!
I’ll add my appreciation. Thank you for taking the time to hear the rangers’ feedback and discussing possible ideas for fixes to issues we’ve expressed. I’ll also add that we rangers need to be patient and allow the Devs to work through their process so it’s done correctly.
Again Robert, thank you for the open dialogue and discussion.

I would like the bow from Rambo II, the one with exploding arrow heads! Then my pet can just nom nom on what’s left over. (Confession of a long bow junkie)

My only concern is looking like an anime character.

Has anyone tried toggling the pet between passive/attack mode during the fight? I know this is a “band-aid fix” since it does not solve the problem, but it could at least get the pet out of the area and deny a CnD. Just offering as a possible, temporary, tactic.
Its easier to just call them back because once you press f3 the pet won’t attack at all unless you either tell them to or leave combat entirely and enter it again (iirc a thief entering stealth doesn’t drop your combat)
Ug. Passive/attack….that’s my WoW conditioning kicking in there. Call them back is what I was meaning to say. Thanks.

I keep reading the theme “players are side stepping shots in WvWvW!” but I’m curious. Most players have only two dodges until the dodge regens, during that time a LB will hit them unless they use a skill that has a dodge inherent to it. So how are so many shots being dodged? Just asking since it sounds very subjective.
Here are a few WvWvW and group PvE tactics I’ve successfully employed to mitigate dodges.
1. Target someone in a fight with another player and snipe them. Plenty of opportunities can be found in the “zerg”, defending, offensive press, etc.
2. Stick your pet on the opponent and let them waste dodges on the pet’s attacks while you kite and snipe them.
3. Always roam in a group and enter combat as a group. Fire from range while others engaged in melee, jump in and out of melee/range as needed.Overall, get your target to stop thinking about you and something else, this is my play style.
The arrows in gw2 don’t home like they do in other games, if you don’t get touched by the projectile it simply does no damage. What is happening is that an opponent will be moving in one direction, you’ll fire an arrow where they are heading, then the enemy changes direction and the arrow misses. This effect is greater the longer the distance so in WvW where zergs fight at 1500 range you see it a lot.
This is why that arrow velocity buff was important, it became harder to dodge arrows simply by moving back and forth in rhythm.
“I see!”, said the blind man.
Thanks for explaining Dante, much appreciated. I’ll have to be more careful and adjust as best I can.

Sweet “out of the box” thinking. Ranger community needs more of it. I’m going to try this in W3 later on and see what happens. Thanks for posting.

Fellow Rangers! Wanted to direct you attention to a blog post over at Verene’s place The Pale Tree (http://thepaletree.net).
She has a video of 5 rangers doing CoF. Video link here – http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=4jVSXPIi4l4
Apologies for the link. I’m having trouble imbedding the video.
I love it! Five rangers using skill, trying out someting different and BAM!, they do it. Trolls will be trolls but hey, trolling is so easy, even a grawl can do it.
Enjoy,

I’m for it! I was part of Warcraft Hunters Union (WHU) and it was a blast running with just ranger/hunter types. As a matter of fact, today about 5 rangers, myself included, got together ad hoc in a world event in the Diessa Plateau and we smoked everything. We stuck to gether for a bit and had a blast.

Man put a warning – “Do not drink while watching this video!” I near lost it. Great vid.

Worst patch ever.
Rangers now suck.
I’m going back to WoW.
Bitter party of one…your table is waiting.

I wasn’t serious. That was pretty obvious.
I know, I was just having some fun. No harm meant.

Good video, totally enjoyed it.
Good use of terrain. You don’t see enough of that in WvWvW. I love the guardian attacking with a scepter, in melee range, on a hunter…that just made me laugh. I like how you wait until opponents are in melee and then hit vines. It catches them off guard. I’ll have to try that tactic. The ambush (3v1) was great also.
How did you strip the conditions from the memser chaotic field? It looked like they dropped early, or is it just the video speed?
If you could post you build, which traits you selected etc, I would love to try it.

Thanks for the update; good news. Please keep us updated.
Makes me wonder if there are other pets they are looking at adjusting.

I played though all the BWEs and I have played and decently level most of the professions except ranger and necro. I finally tried a ranger before the holidays and it was absolutely the most fun I’d had on a profession. I started scouring forums for ranger info and was shocked at the level of antagonism player had toward the class. It has is issues, but the game has only been out since September, it will take time to normalize. Regardless, I rock and roll in WvWvW! I’m not superman, I know I can’t take 5v1 but even at a level 33 I can hold my own against 2v1 running as close as I can to Xsorus’ pain inverter build.
I love the long bow, I love the sword, and I love pets and I LOVE RANGERS!
p.s. I love engineers too but that’s another story
