Its a great buff to Power Rangers:
Rangers can now get 500 ferocity with any weapons or +680 with Axe equipped by using 2 traits + 1 passive signet. 1 trait gives 250 ferocity when you gain fury & fury now does 30%+ crit chance. Signet of the wild passive gives +180 ferocity & stack this with +250 ferocity from Axe offhand trait & its quite nice.
They can generate might just fine, new trait gives you might based on enemy health %, another trait now gives you might when ur pet does a crit hit. I tested it, in 2 seconds I had 9 stacks of might already from those two traits.

Just want to publicly thank you for pointing this out. I set up my ranger all zerk and the above and did Silverwastes just to try it out. It was fun commonly hitting with sword for up to 4K and Path of Scars for 5K. Long bow hit hard also but not as much was sword/axe due to traits.

It was fun though to just melt through stuff.

Interesting thing to note:

Between the Pink and Black Moa, both will Daze and damage enemies 3x, but the Pink Moa has a 1½s Daze while the Black Moa (Hall of Monuments Pet) is a flat 1s Daze.

Well that is a better reason to use ole Flamingo Rex again.

26 July Thief patch notes

This update has given a bit more baseline group utility to the thief, without requiring heavy investment via traits. Venomous Aura has been merged into the baseline of the venom utility skills. Since we now had an empty spot for a “utility” trait, we took the opportunity to introduce a bit more boon theft into the thief’s repertoire with the Rending Shade trait.

Stealth Attacks: All stealth attack skills will now have a 1-second recharge between uses.
Staff Strike: The damage of this skill has been reduced by 5%.
Staff Bash: The damage of this skill has been reduced by 5%.
Punishing Strikes: The damage of this skill has been reduced by 5%.
Venomous Aura: The area-of-effect aspect of this trait has been merged into venoms as baseline. The radius has been reduced from 360 to 240. The recharge reduction has moved to Leeching Venoms.
This trait has been renamed Rending Shade and now causes all sneak-attack abilities to steal up to 2 boons when striking an enemy, while receiving less damage from foes without boons.
Leeching Venoms: This trait no longer grants might to allies it is applied to. This trait now reduces the recharge of venom abilities.
Devourer Venom: The number of stacks that this skill applies has been reduced from 3 to 2.
Basilisk Venom: The number of stacks that this skill applies has been reduced from 2 to 1. Stun duration has been increased from 1 second to 1.5 seconds.
Haste: The recharge of this skill has been reduced from 60 seconds to 50 seconds.
Larcenous Strike: Updated the skill fact to display the number of stolen boons.
Hook Strike: Fixed a bug that prevented this skill from being usable when under the effect of stealth provided by a mesmer.
Dagger Storm: This skill can no longer be affected by quickness or slow.
Shadow Refuge: Fixed a bug in which this skill’s visual effects lingered longer than intended.
Lead Attacks: Fixed a bug in which thieves would not gain the damage increase in certain instances.
Assassin’s Reward: Fixed a bug in which thieves would not gain the healing in certain instances.

Necromancers are receiving mostly quality-of-life changes in this update. Our goal was mainly to improve baseline abilities and improve signature abilities for main-hand weapons and Death Shroud, along with the spectral utility type. Rise has seen significant changes, as we’ve observed that the damage reduction from the minions is too strong in many scenarios.

Life Siphon: The channel time of this skill has been reduced from 3.75 seconds to 2.75 seconds.
Ghastly Claws: The channel time of this skill has been reduced from 2.25 seconds to 1.75 seconds.
Wicked Spiral: This skill will now fire the correct number of whirl finishers.
Mark of Horror: Fixed a bug in which this skill would go on full cooldown if it was interrupted.
Spectral Grasp: Reduced the cooldown from 30 seconds to 25 seconds.
Spectral Walk: Reduced the cooldown from 60 seconds to 50 seconds.
Spectral Armor: Reduced the cooldown from 50 seconds to 40 seconds. The trait version is unchanged. Removed an erroneous skill description.
Flesh Golem—Charge: Increased the stability stacks from 1 to 3. Usage of this skill now clears immobilize from the golem as well.
Spinal Shivers: This skill casts approximately 0.25 seconds faster than before.
Life Blast: The higher damage value of this skill is now dealt at all ranges rather than at close range only.
Blood Is Power: Bleeding stacks have been increased from 2 to 4. Bleeding duration has been reduced from 30 to 15. Might stacks have been increased from 8 to 10, with the duration increased from 8 seconds to 10 seconds.
“Rise!”: Reduced the damage reduction from 50% to 33%. Decreased the health of shambling horrors by 25%. Minions now have 20% reduced toughness.
Signet of Undeath: Reduced the cooldown of this skill from 180 seconds to 150 seconds.
Unholy Sanctuary: Fixed a bug in which this trait would go on cooldown even if the player’s life-force levels were too low to enter Death Shroud.
Spiteful Spirit: The version of Unholy Feast that this trait executes will now include the player’s weapon damage.

WvW - Full Cele or full Dire

Have you thought about using ineptitude instead of the second GM in Illusions? You’re running sword and shield so you have access to enough blocks and evades to make it worth while potentially.
As for the armor I tend to run a Dire Rabid mix. To me the healing stat on Cele is going to be wasted and with the dire I can survive 1v3’s quite well. Will I stomp them? Maybe not if they’re organized but I can harass to no end and that’s fun XD

I haven’t considered Ineptitude, though I would need to evaluate the loss of either Malicious Sorcery providing a quicker scepter attack+skill cooldowns and thus more clones, and Master of Fragmentation with its all around shatter improvements. At first it seems the a cooldown of 10 seconds is little pricey for a 3.5 second blind. I’ll look into it though. Thanks.

In WvW, I tend to roam solo or with small groups taking camps and picking small fights. I would think Dire is more survivable than Cele and a higher condi value; but then again, Cele has a higher power element along with condi and higher healing.

I’m newer to mesmer (loving the class) but I’m not yet at a point where I can see a build and see its flaws. So I’m reaching out to you all. What is your analysis?

So I figured it out, mesmers are Kralkatorrik minions, so its not a PvP match but a mini-boss fight. PvM – Player versus Mesmer! The other 4 players are just adds/trash mobs.

The new meta will be a 5 man comp—tank, dps and one support just to take on the mesmer and their triple alacrity uber PU shatter attack, all the while dodging the power wells of timey-whimey stuff.

DPS tester proves it

Honest questions:
How long was your test?
How often was it repeated?
What was your build?
Remember you lack the buffs that an organized party would provide.

Did your pet have boons when it was attacking the DPS tester?
There have been reports that pets were not receiving boons. Reddit AMA confirmed “ANetCameron—Grimenishi, thanks for bringing up that ranger pets don’t receive buffs and boons inside the dps instance. This is a bug and we’re going to look into fixing this, but can’t provide an ETA at this time.”

My initial assessment of the sword is positive. Yes, I miss sticking to my target but I can dodge when I want. I haven’t tried SB yet but will later. With any new changes it will take some PvP matches and open world bosses for me to really try them out. I am enjoying axe though, very nice.

From today’s notes:

Short bow has received a physical damage upgrade as well as some improved secondary effects on various skills. Main-hand axes have had some animation and condition improvements while receiving some quality-of-life improvements when wielded in the off hand. “Search and Rescue!” range reduced to standard shout range and its recharge time increased.

Sublime Conversion: Fixed an issue that caused the combo ring for this skill to be visible to enemies.

Viper’s Nest: Fixed an issue that caused the combo ring for this skill to display at an offset time.

Kick (Sword Combo 2): This skill has been renamed Crippling Thrust. The animation of this skill has been modified, and the ranger will now be able to move while activating the skill.

Leap (Sword Combo 3): This skill has been renamed Precision Swipe. The animation of this skill has been modified, and the ranger will now be able to move while activating the skill.

Short Bow-
Poison Volley: Increased the poison damage duration applied by this skill from 4 seconds to 5 seconds. The physical damage per strike has been increased by 150%.

Quick Shot: The swiftness duration of this skill has been increased from 3 seconds to 9 seconds. The damage has been increased by 20%. This effect is now only able to be triggered once per shot (it previously would trigger multiple times if the Light on Your Feet trait was in use).

Crippling Shot: The cripple duration has been increased from 3 seconds to 4 seconds. Base damage has been increased by 100%. The pet bleeding duration has been increased from 6 seconds to 12 seconds.

Concussion Shot: The stun and daze durations have been increased from 1 second to 2 seconds.

Axe-
Ricochet: Might duration applied by this skill has been increased from 3 seconds to 5 seconds. Increased the cast point by 0.1 seconds. The aftercast delay has been reduced by 0.16 seconds.

Winter’s Bite: The chill duration of this skill has been increased from 3 seconds to 4 seconds and now also applies 3 stacks of bleeding for 5 seconds. The aftercast delay has been reduced by 0.32 seconds.

Path of Scars: This skill is now ground targeted and can be cast at a shorter distance than the maximum.

Whirling Defense: The active portion of this skill has had its speed increased by 50% and will now scale with quickness. The damage per strike has been increased by 100%.

Skills-
“Search and Rescue!”: The radius of this shout has been normalized and now affects a radius of 600, down from 1200. The recharge time of this skill has been increased from 45 seconds to 60 seconds.

Fortifying Bond: The fury duration applied to the ranger’s pet has been increased from 3 seconds to 5 seconds. The protection duration has been increased from 2 seconds to 3 seconds. The regeneration duration has been increased from 5 seconds to 6 seconds. The swiftness duration has been increased from 3 seconds to 6 seconds. The quickness duration has been increased from 2 seconds to 2.5 seconds. The stability duration has been increased from 3 seconds to 5 seconds.

“Protect Me!”: This skill will no longer attempt to break stun on NPCs who aren’t already in combat.

Fixed a scaling and placement issue with the Celestial Avatar skill icon after the druid elite specialization is equipped.

Vine Surge: Fixed a bug that allowed this skill to strike a target more than once.

I’m witnessing one of the bloodiest fights in the history of WvW.
Massive Zergs facing off one another at every turn, name calling, insults, fist-waving, chest-thumping, war-cries.
These few days since reset has been a battle for the ages, full of hot blooded men of war, crashing into one another, sword striking on metal, shields slamming into shields, hammers swinging left and right.
The battlefield has been marked with shattered souls and crushed bodies.

Things have never felt more right.

Drood Ranger with LB and ancient seed really makes a Reaper’s life a pain. They out-range you and can kite you for ever.

Okay, tried the build. In 1v1s it works very well and I could manage my fights. In 2v1 fights or more….well I stink. Or better said, I’m more use to pulling back to range an opponent that I’m not use to managing melee space and position. I’m going to still give it practice to change things up but wow it made me realize how long its been since I played pure melee.

One other thing to keep I mind, if playing with a bow is important, base ranger can use bows. You have to spec dragon hunter, after leveling to 80, to use a bow on a guardian.

Necro 26 Jan patch notes

From what I see here, I think the goal of the patch was to permeate the class with boon removal. Honestly, I think these changes are positive, because corruption is strongest on condition necromancer. However, Axe definitely needs a total rework next patch and Spiteful Spirit really isn’t that great still. Dark Pact boon corruption will help classic Terrormancer, who cant run path of corruption and terror. Unfortunately, Vital Persistence is still too good with Fear of Death (more fears), so Terrormancer isn’t quite back yet. With one or two more patches, base necro may regain some viability.

I agree here. There are many classes that can push out boons for themselves and allies the “boon stripping” has been sorely needed. My last few weeks in PvP were just building around boon stripping to help counter tempests, herlads, and scrappers.

Yea, it isn’t in the patch notes, but I checked it ingame.

Yeah just checked also. Glyph of Equality is now 3 seconds traited. Hitlbash 2 1/4 sec traited. Concussion shot 1 1/2 sec traited. Primal Echoes 2 sec traited.

Well, we have less time for lockdowns, but maybe that’s why they did it. I could chain up to 6 sec in PvP with swap to staff then GoE before patch, now 5 seconds. Not too horrid. Hilt Bash is where it hurts most.

Dark Pact: This skill now also converts up to 2 boons into conditions along with its innate effects.
Putrid Curse: This skill now also converts up to 1 boon into conditions along with its innate effects.
Corrupt Boon: This skill now converts up to 3 boons into conditions. The recharge of this ability has been reduced from 40 seconds to 15 seconds.
Enfeebling Blood: This skill now converts up to 1 boon into a condition.
Weakening Shroud: The effect triggered off of this trait now converts up to 1 boon into a condition.
Leeching Bolts: Projectiles created from comboing with Dark fields will now heal through your shroud.
Spiteful Spirit: This trait’s recharge has been removed. The attack from this trait is now referred to as “Spiteful Spirit” in the combat log instead of “Unholy Feast,” and its particle effects have been updated.
Chilling Darkness: The internal cooldown on this trait has been reduced from 5 seconds to 3 seconds.
Unyielding Blast: This trait no longer adds piercing.
Life Blast / Plague Blast: These skills now pierce by default.
Chilling Nova: Fixed an issue that prevented this trait from firing when jumping or underwater.
Soul Spiral: Fixed an issue that prevented this skill from triggering whirl finishers while underwater.

Reaper:

Chilling Nova: Reduced the recharge from 10 seconds to 8 seconds. Fixed a bug that caused the nova to have a smaller than intended radius.

Predators onslaught though, thats a real nice buff. The shouts also seem much better – but could still use some work to make them worthy choices over other stuff with the exception of Guard which could be amazing depending on Might output. Overall an improvement for Rangers.

Agree. I’m still geeking out about Strider’s Defense. I use it in PvP already with good effect but now 50%…just waiting to try it out.

Nature’s Vengeance: The boons granted by this trait now use the ranger’s boon duration.
Hidden Barbs: This trait’s increase to bleeding damage has been increased from 20% to 33%.
“Search and Rescue”: This skill has been reworked. It now commands your pet to teleport a nearby fallen ally to your location and then begin reviving them while granting regeneration to allies.
“Guard!”: This skill has been reworked. It now commands your pet to guard nearby allies, taking a portion of the damage directed at them and granting you might.
“Protect Me!”: This skill has been reworked. It now breaks stuns on allies, grants you protection, and causes the next foe to attack you to be taunted by your pet.
Resounding Timbre: Increased the radius affected by this trait from 360 to 600.
Instinctive Reaction: Increased the attribute contribution from healing power to power from 7% to 13%.
Primal Reflexes: Increased the duration of vigor applied by this trait from 5 seconds to 8 seconds.
Expertise Training: Increased the condition duration aspect of this trait from 20% to 33%.
Vigorous Training: Increased the duration of vigor applied by this trait from 5 seconds to 10 seconds.
Strider’s Defense: This trait’s chance to destroy projectiles while executing a melee attack has been increased from 25% to 50%.
Honed Axes: The ferocity bonus this trait grants has been increased from 150 to 250.
Predator’s Onslaught: Increased this trait’s damage bonus toward inhibited targets from 10% to 15%.

I finally got into emerald (I got a late start) and working to sapphire and this build has been quite successful. I guess it’s either people do not suspect it or just the good synergy with the traits but it is working quite well. Maybe later it will face problems and I will adapt form there but thank you for posting it, it has been fun to run.

Okay, my two cents—-

OP: I’m thinking of getting my first Ranger to 80, I’ve played some PvP and quite liked it.
– If you enjoy it then play it. To many people think playing the fotm class with make it fun for them, because pwning=fun right? Classes get balanced, though I admit at a glacial pace, so things will change. But your enjoyment of a class can still endure.

OP: But how are they really in PvP and PvE?
– I play my ranger in both PvP and PvE all over the place with him. I have a blast in both and do very well in both. Heck, in PvE your tanky pets can take on anything while you attack from range.

OP: How many viable PvP specs are there? I’ve been told that condi builds sucks and so on.
– There are viable specs. Rummage around the forums here and you’ll find many PvP discussions from some very active and knowledgeable PvPers. No, condi does not suck but can be countered, but so can power builds. You just have to know the build and play skillfully.

I love attriting enemies from afar and them attacking them with multiple assailants when they get close.

There’s no other class I would really need to use my brain to actually go into the difficult calculations or brainstorming and requires much more awareness instead of mechanical ability sequences (while still having some).

I’d say you hit the nail on the head here. For example, I can run in all Leeroy Jenkins on my necro but my ranger requires me to evaluate, think, position, adapt… and it may very well be because of it’s weaknesses but it is never dull.

oh and big puppy dogs (I’m asura and I have a big Drake hound)

Technobabble is a 3 sec daze baseline, 6 when traited with MoC. Wow…I’m going to be busy during the next BWE.
