Would really like another zerker LB Ranger as a duo partner in WvW. Did that a lot in Daoc back in the day and it was a hoot assisting on the same target and dropping him instantly.

If you’re on AR I’ll team up with you. One insane zerk ranger is a problem, two insane zerk rangers are a nightmare!

can someone explain this new matching system to me purty please. how is whats going on different then before the change? I know there is some random element.but other then that im a bit stumped.

as a side note. Anvil Rock and Borlis have always been my 2 favorite servers to fight. But for the love of god…what happened to Anvil Rock? did someone Dry Dock the Toilet in AR Lions Arch? because your joint has cleared out 8(

We lost a good sized guild, ALS, to a higher pop server. There where some additional ones but they were the big chunk. AR is going to have to “regrow” our WvW player base.

………………………

Thats about right, its the same as the build I posted, more or less. The difference is I take 10 points in Defense for dogged march, hoelbrak runes and lemongrass, for my rifle build instead of depending on mobile strikes. Then I pick up destruction of empowered and do more damage beased of the enemy boons instead of off of lysaa boons that are only active for 5 seconds. I find this to be superior way of doing a 0/30/x/x/30 rifle build than yours. Becasue your way of doing it is less power than plus I have a 20% might duration instead of a 10% boon duration. unless you pop your elete then your whole build henges on 5 second of boons, while being prone to getting shut down unless u use your warhorn. So Btw with DOE if the enemy has 3 boons on them I get 9% damage, with your build you pop SoR u get 6% damage.

Other thing I do differently is instead of using a warhorn and a sword for leap, I use the new warriors sprint and a GS, the rush skill is farther than the leap and I get a 3rd dodge skill. I don’t need mobile strikes or a warhorn to clear immobilize because im immune to it. Then instead of picking up deep cuts I get furious speed so when I crit with the rifle i get swiftness, which stacks with SoR for a perma swiftness up time while rifle is equipped.

http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fIAQJAURjgOtwpQGPMxBEUBN88Y8CQyT9wO2w4A-j0yAYrhoRRgIKAUlkl8UWTgCiVwioxqYwUlBSfqU7NKiWtMAMLA-w

Thanks for comments. I agree the Lyssa build has a short window of opportunity and loses a good amount of power if I get boon stripped or interrupted. I guess that’s also its appeal, I have to execute everything just right and I can boost the power at the moment I want.
I do swap out Mobile Strikes with Destruction of the Empowered often to test out its effectiveness. If targets have a lot of boons its great, unfortunately when my side boon strips them just before I land KS I’m lose out and that % increase.
I haven’t had a need for Dogged March yet with the warhorn but if I didn’t run with it I can totally see it’s need. I just love messing with builds and asking “I wonder what happens if I do this?” I’m still tinkering and tweaking.
I have not tried the new sprint yet. I’ll have to add that in and see what fun I can have with it.

0/30/0/10/30
Arms – III, VII, XI
Precise Strike and Deep Cuts help maintain a bleed on a target so as to benefit from Attack of Opportunity (10% damage to a bleeding target). Critical Burst increases burst crit chance by 10% and Furious helps refund spent adrenaline for use in the next Kill Shot.

Tactics – VI
Since Berserker’s Power was moved up the Strength tree there are ten points for “play style” here. I picked up Empowered for the extra 2% damage per boon. If used with Signet of Rage (SoR) it increases damage by 6%. Couple Empowered with superior Rune of Lyssa and it can boost damage by 18% since the rune bonus provides nine boons on elite skill use. Rune of Lyssa link – http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Superior_Rune_of_Lyssa

Discipline – IV, X or VIII, XI
Inspiring Shouts enables all shouts to grant 8 strike of adrenaline. Popping “On My Mark” and “For Great Justice” coupled with a triple return on critical hits thanks to Furious and adrenaline fills rather quickly. Also, Kill Shot’s damage amount associated with adrenaline is calculated at the end of it’s cast; as a result, popping shouts while casting to fill all 3 bars is an excellent tactic in providing as many Kill Shots as possible. Essentially a player does not have to wait for the bar to fill, shouts help fill it.
Destruction of the Empowered can be selected if sniping a boon heavy target. This trait is entirely up taste and requires awareness of what boons are active on the target. Adding 21% more damage to a guardian when they pop “Save Yourselves” is sweet but realize retaliation will reflect back some of the damage.

Mobile Strikes allows for getting out of bad situations with sword #2. Add that with horn #4 and a tactical retreat is always available. Word to the wise though, disable auto-targeting. Versatile Rage/Power and Fast hands are great minor traits that allow swapping to the sword gaining might, leaping to a downed foe, hitting Final Thrust or just stomping them, then retreating back to a better to position to snipe.

Skills – Mending for heals and some condition removal. For Great Justice, might and fury is always good. On My Mark provides a 10% damage increase on the target. SoR fits just perfect versus Juggernaut or Uber Banner . Third skill is up to choice. Fear Me offers a nice gap creator or stomp preventer for an ally. Signet of Might (SoM) is good against shield professions like guardians, engineers, or mesmers. Pop it before KS and KS becomes unblockable; however, you trade off a reserve source of 8 adrenaline strikes.

Armor & Trinkets – I run berserk for power/precision/critical damage increases with exquisite ruby jewels in the trinkets. This makes the build less hardy due to the lower toughness, so being aware of the situation is highly important. Know where you are and where the enemy is. However, sword and horn are both knight (power/toughness/vitality) since these are used to either attack a down player or retreat when needed.

Runes – Right now I’m still experimenting. Currently I’m using superior runes of Lyssa. The reason is the sixth bonus increases my damage output by 18% through Empowered. The concern I am having is the boon duration is only 5 to 6 secs resulting in a short window to get off SoR, target, pop shouts and then Kill Shot. I’ve experimented with Infiltrator for the +%damage when foe is under 50% health. Hoelbrak or Soldier runes for more condition removal options. Strength runes for the 5% damage increase under might affects (it was ok but not my favorite). Divinity runes are strong contenders as they provide a 12% increase in crit damage and +60 in all stats.

Sigils – On the rifle Sigil of Fire. On the sword and warhorn Sigils of Accuracy or Bloodlust on both so I can fast stack.

Food – haven’t decided yet.

Yes. That seems like such a long time ago, in a Tyria far, far away. When you think about it, AR and BP really have “grown up” together. Looking back in WvW history and I wonder if any other set of servers has spent as much together as we have.

Edit: Out of 39 total matches so far, AR and BP have faced each other 29 times. Wow, that’s 74% of our WvW time we’ve been together.

Sniper Build Post Patch.

Out of curiosity, you run with and axe so do you melee combat also?

Well I try to stay out of melee combat as much as possible with a sniper build but people will still make it within melee range of you. I use eviscerate as a melee version kill shot since it does damage that is pretty close to what you can do with kill shot. You can 1 shot a thief that pops out of stealth with dagger storm going as an example whereas your kill shot would just get reflected.

I use the signet of fury and heal as my way to build adrenaline since both of those completely fill the adrenaline bar. I found that my kill shot is usually off cooldown before I regain full adrenaline through attacking without using a utitility skill.

Sweet! I imagine the thief is thinking, “Easy GC kill!” then THWOMP! They get an axe to the head and now they’re dead. I’ll admit I have very little practice on the axe. I’ll have to try it some time. Thanks.

Sniper Build Post Patch.

in Warrior

Posted by: Expiatus.4210

Expiatus.4210

I was actually just trying to figure out the same thing. I loved my build before this patch but this patch messed everything up. I could get 100% crit chance with kill shot, piercing shots, and massive damage pre-patch with this build:
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fIAQNBkODbkzp3N3R5hJSgYKUEHFQRAqe0G2xGmKUGA-jEyAYLBZCSkpCAJvioxWcLiGraBTVSEV7NKiWtUARMGA-w

Post patch I am trying to figure out a good build since it screwed up the traits horribly. We lost the 3% damage from the discipline line and they moved the crit and damage on adrenline traits all the way to the grandmaster slots. This is the build I am thinking about running post patch now:
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fIAQNBkODbkzp3N3R5hJOAYe8jRFpeYHAxlKUGA-jEyAYLBZKSkpCAJvioxWcLiGraBTVSEV7NKiWtQAjGDA-w

Destruction of the empowered would be the master trait but the builder isnt updated yet.

It loses the 100% crit chance and piercing shots but the damage to a single target should be a higher. It loses 150 power when bloodlust is stacked over the prepatch build in order to raise the crit chance up to 74-82% depending if sigil is on cooldown. However, it gets an extra 13% damage over the prepatch build which will hopefully make up for the 150 missing power and give higher damage over the prepatch build.

I was thinking about running a sigil of battle on my ax offhand to stack some power to make up the power difference but I don’t really like the idea of constantly swapping the weapons just for some might.

Thanks for the response.

I agree Berserker’s Power was nice for a 10 point cost. However, for me taking it now forces me to loose a lot of traits that directly support the rifle, my burst, direct damage and getting adrenaline back quickly, all of which is found in the Arms line. Strength lends itself more towards melee fighting, something I try to stay out of as a sniper.

The good news is Empowered can make up the damage depending on how many boons you have. If you have 6 boons on you that’s 12% right there. Unfortunately we can only guarantee 3 boons with SoR, but in WvW we should be able to get a few more.

I really want the build editors to update (especially GW2skill.net) so I can do a proper stat comparison.

Out of curiosity, you run with and axe so do you melee combat also?

I’m relatively new to the warrior class. I’ve mostly played on my asuran ranger; nevertheless, I’ve always wanted to roll a warrior. My warrior will be 80 in a little bit so I wanted to share my rifle build and ask the seasoned warriors for any input. The whole purpose of this build is to scout the battle field and snipe people with a big “hit”. I love having to patiently assess, then when the time is right and the enemy unaware, BANG! They wonder what is hitting them.

Heads up! This is a WvW build. Also, I do not promote this as the best sniper build in existence but one that compliments my play style. Please feel free to add, delete, modify or adjust to your liking. My personal opinion is the best build is the one that plays to your strengths and you enjoy.

“You don’t see a lot of quit from AR. Stubborn server with stubborn players. Even vs. the transfer monster that was Kaineng, there was AR with 15 balistas holding the N supply camp in our BL, because they were NOT taking everything. AR doesn’t play for a place, these folks like to fight. Would we prefer an even match up, sure sometimes, but then again, where is the fun in that?”

This is why I play on AR.

To ALS – it was wonderful to play with you when I could. I was one of the non-guild guys who would actually get on your TS so I could get the intel on fight locations and where I was needed. Unfortunately, I have a large amount of work right now so I will not get a chance to test this any time soon. As such, I wanted to throw this idea out to the ranger community and see if anybody has tested this already. Thnx

Check out ANET’s blog post since call to arms will be affected by the upcoming patch.

https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/upcoming-skill-and-trait-changes/
———-
Weakness condition change

We have a very interesting change coming to Weakness condition. Currently, Weakness decreases endurance regeneration and causes non-critical hits to have a chance to become glancing blows. We wanted this condition to punish spike damage, but it was a bit underwhelming because critical hits, which are essential to spike damage, have previously bypassed Weakness’s effect. Weakness will now cause all hits, both critical and non-critical, to have a chance to become a glancing blow. We went through and rebalanced a lot of the weakness durations for this change. We think this change will make the condition more meaningful and give it much more play.

All hits reduced to 50% effectiveness as a glancing blow is quite nice. I look forward to testing it out in game when the patch goes live.

Upcoming Skill/Trait Changes

ANet has a new blog post up lightly discussing the upcoming 25 June patch – https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/upcoming-skill-and-trait-changes/

Some areas of discussion:
Torment – a new condition wherein enemies will take damage periodically; as they move, they’ll take even more damage.

Weakness changes – Weakness will now cause all hits, both critical and non-critical, to have a chance to become a glancing blow.

Stun breakers – spread out across more utility types.

I know “regen nerf” is an area of concern for us but the devs stated, “When possible, we try very hard not to take away too much potency from popular builds because we know that a lot of people enjoy them.”

As with any patch, we simply do not know nerfs/buffs/changes until patch day, but June 25th will be interesting to say the least.

Gimp But Determined III Bow Ranger WvW Video

in Ranger

The BM builds are fine for small man skirmishing and just trying to troll small groups.
It’s the real WvW big group utility we lack. We can’t front line it really, guardians and warriors just do that so much better with WAY more utility.
As a backline fighter we can do traps which are lackluster and our longbow 5 is decent but usually gets us killed and the damage is pretty subpar, necros got wells and eles got static field, water fields, etc, and if specced right using d/d can be great front liners.
My ranger is my favorite character right now, but my main mode of play doing Guild vs Guild and generally WvW combat so I usually play Warrior or sometimes Guardian.

I find I’m quite capable in large WvW fights as a BM Bunker. Since everyone’s experiences differ I’ll share mine. I may not be in the front line but as a skirmisher on the flanks I cause havoc. I pop Troll Ungent, and send in the wolf, split up part of the group with F2 fear, then I move to another part and hit Grasping Vines and drop Bonfire. I’ll back out throwing axes all over the place spreading some burning. If I had to time to slot it, I’ll throw down Muddy Terrain just as they are regrouping. Also, if I have a drake, I send him in the middle of a group and let him tail swipe away – pet swap if health gets low. Marsh and River drakes are pretty tough and have great multi-target attacks. You can even throw in hyena, F2 and have both knocking people down.

So while the guardians and warriors are in front hammering, I’m jacking up the sides so the opponents can’t close in on them and focus fire. Large groups need to focus fire and break up the opponents center but they have a hard time doing that while trying to protect themselves from an annoying ranger and his pet who just won’t die.

Again just my experiences on Anvil Rock but I’ve witnessed many rangers attacking the flanks and making a difference.

is it me or are the skill animations for rangers really boring and simple.

Yes, this has always been the case. The game takes your elevation into account for calculating distance. Its a nice feature. It gives the game more depth than two dimensional physics.

Well that is some good news. Now I want to know how far I can push it!

Hitting targets beyond 1500

in Ranger

Expiatus.4210

Ok. Let me set up the scene here –
The other day in WvW, I was trying out the “Dirty Dirty 505” build jubskie wrote up. I’m in EB defending Anvil Rock keep and I’m on the north end on the right side (closest to Veloka). I stationed myself on the higher outcropping of rocks looking to snipe SBI as they advanced. I had “Eagle Eyes” selected.

Now, I always keep an eye in the red bar under the skills showing if a target is within range. One unlucky char gets in range and I drop him. Another SBI moves in to rez but he is out of range according to the red bar under the skill icon. On a whim I shoot anyway – it hits him and he pulls back. I’m pleasantly surprised so I try it again on another target that is just out of range. It works again. I kept doing this through the entire time we were on defense. After testing how it works I figured if I’m elevated and the target is not to far beyond my max range I could still hit them. I even turned off Piercing Arrows to see if that was the reason why but it still happened independent of Piercing Arrows.

Has this always been the case? Is this on purpose or a bug? I’ve mostly leveled in WvW as a BM Bunker so I’ve never noticed this before.

What ever it is, being able to hit farther than 1500 is sweet especially when the poor target thinks they are safe.

I always thought frost spirit and storm spirit could work well with a beastmaster bunker build. Anything to say about that, guys? Although in this build the user likely wants sub spirit, like you said, for the blind and the burns.

Nugget did one about a month ago. Info below.

The DDR, A Power Ranger Guide (Updated 6/28)

Expiatus.4210

Jub,
I tried this in WvW today and DANG! Going from a BM Bunker, what I leveled with, to full out downing people with LB#2 and a few regular shots just blew my mind. An interesting side effect of having low health is I am more cognizant of my location on the battle field. I disengage sooner and survive longer. In addition, I’ve done so much damage I can reset potion and finish the job or usually a fellow server member has already done it.

I’ve never played a power build but after reading your guide I tried it and I’m loving it. I’m going to keep it for now and see what else it can do.

Thanks again for the write up.

Spirit buffs affect pets

in Ranger

Posted by: Expiatus.4210

Expiatus.4210

Why would they not be?

Maybe you didn’t notice it before because of the five member limit on support skills. Pets take a lower priority than players so the majority of the time they will miss out on all the buffs being thrown around (unless you have the trait which shares ranger buffs). The range of spirits is also not that large so it’s possible the pet was out of range of your spirit before.

I don’t believe anything has changed. I didn’t explicitly test it before (I stopped using spirits during the BWE and only tried them out twice since then) so I can’t say for certain they are the same now as before, but I can think of reasons why you might not have seen pets benefit from them in the past.

Thanks for the response. Part of the reason I’ve never seen it is because I’ve never attempted to use it. I was just pleasantly surprised. My ranger finally reached 80 and now that I’ve played BM bunker enough I’m experimenting. Knowing the 5 man limit is very helpful. I’m going to go back an test the buff’s range. I’m also, curious if the swiftness buff could help the pet stick to my opponent. Lastly, I want to know the range of the spirits second (activated) skills.

Now before people chime in and tell me spirits will be dead in a few hits my response is, “I know.” I’m just testing and then going for proof of concept. Who knows maybe something will work.

Again, thanks for the information.

Spirit buffs affect pets

in Ranger

Posted by: Expiatus.4210

Expiatus.4210

I searched the forums and didn’t find any posts that specifically stated that pets benefit from spirit buffs. I was in the mists toying with some builds and testing spirits out and for the first time I noticed my “black feline of death” was applying burning to the golem. I was not attacking. The cat was applying burning from the sun spirit buff.

I tried it again and it kept happening. Were pets always affected by the buffs or is this a stealth buff?

Thanks.
