Just adding my voice as an unhappy t3 sylvari light armor wearer. Please consider reverting this. I understand that people asked for control over glowing armor regions, and it’s great that you guys are working to accommodate requests, but this change does not seem to have been implemented in a way that works well for most people, or at least most of the people who have spoken up here.

The previews they provided look pretty good, but I just gots to know what these sets look like on a variety of races/genders.
I appreciate the response LootBag, but I did acknowledge that I’ve already seen that image and what I was hoping for were some previews on other body types.
Can any of you who are able to preview the sets in the Mists post a couple of shots? Thanks! =)
EDIT: nvm, I see that Dulfy has since updated her site with previews.

Hi everyone, I’m at work and I see that they’ve added new gemstore armor sets which makes me super happy! The previews they provided look pretty good, but I just gots to know what these sets look like on a variety of races/genders. If anyone would be willing to post some screens of the new sets on your toon, I’m sure those of us stuck at work for the next 5 hours would be very grateful. I myself am particularly interested to see the female versions of the heavy and light sets.
I’m assuming the patch is live, apologies if not, feel free to ignore me =D

If most things in game actually gave you somewhat equal profit there wouldn’t really be “farming”, you’d just be playing the game and progressing towards your chosen goals.
Yup, this exactly. I would LOVE to spend 2-3 hours at night running a couple of dungeon paths, but if I do, I’ll make maybe 6 gold. If I spend the same amount of time gathering T6 mats on a bunch of my 80s, I make 30g. I realize that for some people, making gold isn’t the same as having fun. For me, atm, working toward a goal is having fun, and my goal requires gold.

I haven’t seen anyone else wearing this combination, but I think it looks great. No two pieces are from the same set, so bonus self-backpat on that one =P

I’ve found that putting aesthetic items on my most-played characters is the way to go. For example, I got my Arah armor set on my necro, because it fits her better than my ele, but I play my ele more. Well, the set does look amazing on my necro, but now it never gets play.
If you don’t enjoy axe Ranger now, I doubt you’ll start enjoying it for long term play just because you have a cool looking axe.
Good luck =)

I agree that this year so far feels underwhelming compared to last year, where Halloween was hands down my favorite event.
My issue is that I would have liked to see some new gear skins. They did 5 new weapons, leaving a large majority of the weapons in the game by the wayside. New armor sets have been completely neglected since launch, save a couple sets in the gem store. In a game where everything is supposed to be based on progression of your character’s appearance, there seems to be a gaping hole in newly introduced appearance items.
One solution would be to tie new skins to the meta achievements, but instead we just get useless nonsense like minis. I’m aware some people like and collect minis, but I think it’s pretty clear that more people enjoy new pieces of armor than minis.
No response needed, I’m aware I’m complaining about free content updates, but I had to get it off my chest, because as someone else mentioned, it seems so obvious that people want more armor skins, but ANet is either oblivious or doesn’t care.

I’m normally the type to say things like taste is subjective and there’s no accounting for it, but if you look through these pages, it’s pretty clear that the majority of comments in regard to the armor skins are negative, some are neutral, few are positive and none are glowing.
If the range of opinions about these armor sets is really so far skewed from a normal distribution as it seems to be, would it be fair to say that they are objectively bad?

There are at least two reasons players are playing this game, specifically the new content as it comes out. The first is that they want to play the game and experience the new content, the second is because they’re mad for rewards, as the OP describes. ANet is taking care of both of us, so what’s the problem?
If you find that you are playing just for the rewards, that’s on you. If you don’t like having that as your motivation, do something about it, but don’t claim that having reward available alongside this stream of new content is a design shortcoming.

In my experience, if you find a build that allows you to stack vuln quickly at the start of the fight, it definitely improves your kill speed. I use it as part of my core rotation on my zerker necro, and within a couple seconds i have 25 stacks up.

Perhaps I’ll get slammed for this, but unless PvE fights are designed to be more unpredictable as is playing against another player, I don’t see skill ever being tested. Most content, even the “more difficult” content like Liadri (and previously Lupicus) doesn’t actually require skill, just practice/memorization of which skills will be used, when they’ll be used, and what button to press to avoid it.
Granted, some people tend to learn how to faceroll these kinds of fights faster than others, so maybe there is some aspect of skill there, but it’s tough to separate, in my opinion, the effects of familiarity and experience with particular fights from “skill.”
This forum is a wretched hive of scum and villainy. ~DevilLordLaser
Fair points, OP. I agree and I am happy that ANet is making these available outside of RNG. I just wish they’d said something to suggest they were going to do this, as many people, myself included, do make investment choices based on the exclusivity of these items. For example, I bought a bunch of Dragon Coffers on the TP when they were near their lowest price so that I could sit on them for a few months and sell them back for profit when there was no other good way to get a Dragon’s Jade weapon. Well, it’s nearing a few months and I’d imagine that this change is going to make their value plummet again, and likely stay low.
Again, I’m happy they’re making these RNG items available by direct purchase, I just wish they’d given a heads-up.
At least now we know, and we can probably assume that these ‘bring it back’ sales are going to happen at the ends of coming years as well.

The OP asked whether I was for or against. I gave my stance and my reasonings behind it and everyone felt the need to jump on me because my stance is different than theirs. Yes, I feel strongly about it, but I didn’t attack anyone in my response, yet people suddenly feel the need to do so to me.
Yes, I feel that when you select a race and class, it should mean something. Not just some arbitrary ‘click-click I’m done. If I dont care for it there’s no penalty to just swap’ and I stand behind that opinion. If you dont care about your character, why are you making one? If you dont care about what race you are, or what profession you are, how are you ever going to ‘care’ about the world you are supposed to be saving? Why not just play a console rpg where there is no character selection then, they just put you into some prefabbed char’s shoes, because none of it matters. If you dont care about lore…ok, fine, lot of people dont care for the lore. Immersion on the other hand….then why are you playing again? Without immersion, I cant see how the game would be enjoyable at all… and from the numerous threads kittening about lack of immersion, I think many would agree there.
You don’t have to be of the same opinion. You don’t even have to like my reasonings behind it. That’s fine. But if people want to be kittens to me because I have a difference of opinion, I have no issue being a kitten, with a capitol B, right back.
I am not saying anyone has to play the game a specific way. Like I said, I simply offered my opinion, my stance, on the question asked. Kitten, I wasn’t even mean about it. I simply said I was strongly against it, and why. You people make it seem like I came out and said ‘Absolutely not. No one can ever change their race. If they made it they have to play it because I kitten said so and if they don’t like it they can lick my toes and whine like a bunch of pansy kitten kittens.’ Which, really is nothing like what I said. Essentially this line “Race and class selection should mean something, and gemstore swaps trivialize this” was a summation of everything I had already said. Sheesh.
Again, I wasn’t trying to be snarky or mean, I just think that personal opinions should be formed with potential effects on others in mind. I understand that you’re saying you wouldn’t want a race change option, but is that the only thing you factor in when deciding if you’re for or against something, how much it appeals to you personally?
I’m actually inclined to agree with you and say that I wouldn’t use a race change either for many of the same reasons, but I’d still be strongly for them because it seems many, many people would like to change race and them doing so wouldn’t affect me negatively in the slightest.
This forum is a wretched hive of scum and villainy. ~DevilLordLaser
I am very much against not only racial rerolling, but class rerolling via gemstore items. It would make class and race selection at the beginning essentially pointless. It would require no thought at all on the part of the person making a new character. They wouldn’t think long and hard about what they really wanted to do, because they could just throw real money at it and make it something else…of the same level, with no drawback what-so-ever. Definitely no.
Race and class selection should mean something, and gemstore swaps trivialize this.
So everyone should play the game the way you like to play the game? I’m not trying to be snarky but that’s the only reasoning I see in your post.
Some people do not care at all about lore or immersion, which should be obvious by the number of weird player names out there. If one of these people would like to change their race for appearance purposes without having to play the same class 1-80 again, a race change item would come in handy.
Is it really so offensive to you that people might create a character on a whim rather than as a well thought out plan that you need to vehemently be against a race change option?
I think you win anyway though, as ANet has said they have no plans to offer race change.

Hey Coco, thanks for the progress update and don’t worry about the pace, you’re fine.
It’s looking really cool, the only thing I’d suggest is the width of her hips looks a little off to me. I think the game models do have pretty narrow hips that don’t really look great in drawings, but perhaps you can rein them in a bit toward a compromise between the game style and the comic style?
Other than that, the face looks great so far as does the rest of it, so you’ve got me excited to see the next update, keep up the good work!

Honestly, I was skeptical of the Living Story stuff in general for a few months, but now that they’re moving into a steady stream of new content being introduced every two weeks, I’m liking what I’m seeing. In other MMOs, my play experience has come down to hitting endgame content then not knowing what to do besides repeat the same dungeon runs over and over. I’d just log in, look at how cool my toon looks, check the broker and then stand around doing nothing, while being in denial about the fact that I couldn’t think of anything worth doing.
Living Story changes that for me in a big way. Sure, we’ll have some updates that don’t tickle my particular fancy, but that’s fine, because we have novelty every two weeks, which means something else to learn/explore/enjoy. I think ANet’s strategy is shaping up to potentially be a decent fix to the ‘players devouring content’ problem that all MMOs have had, and for my playstyle, a much better one than the endless gear treadmill.

If I can make one request as you move forward, I prefer the style of the faces in this image and this image over the more cartoony look of the faces here and here. I’m definitely partial to the Alex Garners and Michael Turners over the slightly more anime-looking stuff.
In terms of the weapons, no need to feature specific models from the game, I’m not nuts about any of the axe or mace skins I use anyway, so the draft versions you’ve sketched out can just be further developed, or feel free to play around with other ideas if you feel so inspired, just nothing too over the top.

Yes, I’ve done this as well and just for the armor access. This is one reason why I would love it if there was some kind of ‘ambassador’ title your toon could earn that would allow you to select one other race whose cultural armor you could wear. I would dance a jig if that were ever added.

This is kind of annoying. One of the reasons I have multiple level 80 alts is so that I can repeat paths I enjoy most within a 24-hour period and still get a worthwhile token reward each time. I’m not talking about repeating only the easiest paths of the easiest dungeons, I would often do Arah several times per reset cycle as well.
Honestly, it is a bit frustrating that ANet makes changes like this 1 year into the game. I do understand that sometimes it’s better to change things that are hurting the game and risk upsetting some players than to just leave things broken and/or exploitable. But I don’t understand the need for this change, can anyone explain it for me?
Were too many dungeon tokens leading to too much salvaging or forging of dungeon items? I don’t see how this would be even close to a problem compared to the flood of rares available from world event boss chests and now all champion chests.
The only thing I can really see as ANet’s goal here is to spread out dungeon runs to the lesser run paths and dungeons throughout each 24-hour cycle, in which case this token change complements the other dungeon changes well. In which case this change just falls into the popular category of ‘let us show you how to play our game,’ I think. That kinda sucks, but tbh I still love the game whether path-repeating is worth my time or not, so I can’t really justify ranting about it any more than I already have.

I like your style, particularly that first sketch of the norn warrior.
I’d like to claim one of your open slots for a full body sketch of my human warrior, if I may.
I’ve attached a touched-up screenshot of her for some detail, and here is a link to a few shots of her in game: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/crafting/Post-YOUR-legendary-progress/page/9#post2405918 Though if you do include weapons in the sketch, I’d prefer an axe/mace combo, not Sunrise as is shown in these shots.
In terms of her character, she’s based on the character of Asha Greyjoy from A Song of Ice and Fire. She’s kinda unfeatured in the TV show version, at least so far, but a total kitten in the books. The Greyjoy house words are “we do not sow,” they get everything they have from raiding and battle. Asha is the daughter of Balon Greyjoy and is competing for her father’s throne with her uncle. She’s not winning, and her uncle has tried to marry her off to control her, but she takes off and tries to make a name for herself as a warrior/conqueror in exile. So in general, she’s a fierce fighter type gone rogue.
I’m looking for a view from the front/slightly from the side, and I think I’d like to see the raggedyness of the cloth pieces of her armor set played up a bit, maybe with a windblown look to the cloth part of the rear skirt and possibly her hair if that’s doable.
I’m not sure what resolution the finished sketch will be at since I’m not sure what method you use to sketch, but the larger the better =D
Let me know if you need anything else, I’ll check back on the post and watch my PMs.

Why are so many people making proclamations like:
most the people voting for Ellen didn’t care about fractals but voted for lower WP costs or because Ellen is the “good guy” and they didn’t want to vote for a Charr
Are people really so dense as to think that they are the only ones who research their decisions before making them? Just because someone came to a different decision than you did doesn’t mean that they are ignorant or that their decision making process was shallow.
I could make a sweeping proclamation that Kiel should have won by a much larger margin, and a huge portion of Gnash’s voters just wanted cheaper black lion keys, but that wouldn’t make it true.
I voted for Gnashblade, btw.
Have you seen the state of the United States Congress? People vote for petty and unscrupulous things all the time. His proclamation isn’t any less valid than yours.
Did you read my post or did you just read the last paragraph? The whole point of making my proclamation was to point out that any one can say anything but none of it is valid without support. Everyone is throwing around statements about who voted for whom and why as if they are fact.

lol Dawdler, I see your point about Legendaries like Bifrost vs The Crossing, but unfortunately there is too much inequality between Legendaries for this comparison to be generalizable to the issue of whether Legendaries are worth it.
I was originally going to get Frostfang, but had the same issues as you, I might as well just get a Corrupted Axe, there’s not much difference, especially from a distance.
I changed my mind and got Sunrise instead because, to me, those greatswords are everything a Legendary should be. It blows my mind how much more epic they are than many of the others, and honestly it really seems unfair. But meh I guess.
So the answer for me, prior to the news about changing stats while OOC, would be yes some Legendaries are worth it on a purely cosmetic basis, others are not.

I agree we are not all evenly matched, but I don’t see getting the 1st place achievement as a big enough deal to warrant so much discussion. Sure, getting the personal quartz node will result in some players having easier access to unique gear stats, but I have the meta achievement completed and I never got 1st in sprint. Know your limits, pick and choose which achievements you are capable of completing and get to work. If you can’t achieve, maybe you shouldn’t get the achievement reward.

I think wearing full rare is perfectly acceptable for a person running around solo. I’ve had no problem in Orr in masterwork stuff. I choose to equip exotics on all my endgame toons because I want to see the highest numbers I can. It’s fun, but I don’t think it’s a necessity.
Dungeons is another story. While I’m reasonably certain that skilled players could run dungeons in masterwork gear, it’s just disrespectful toward your group to do it. There’s no excuse to not be making as much of a contribution to your group’s smooth and speedy success as you can. So, exotics and ascended gear where possible.

…it doesn’t make you spend hours preparing to have fun rather than just having fun; and of course, it doesn’t have a monthly fee
I dunno, I think the game lives up to this statement really well. I’m not being a fanboy here, just saying, I log in and play and it’s fun. I don’t have to LFG to do some terrible dungeon for the 500th time to get the newest armor tier with the best stats so that I can one day do the next dungeon that comes out. I can wear my exotic gear that I got without grinding to play any part of the game, any way I want, at any time.
Just my perspective.

if you join a group asking for zerkers, yes you will be kicked.
if you join a random, any-class pug, they may kick you if they find out you’re in mf gear, as most people consider it a really selfish move to wear mf gear in a dungeon group. if you’re concerned about it and/or wanna not be carried just to maximize your own profits, i would try to form a static group with other ppl wearing mf gear and run it together.

Hey constaz, I’m sorry but I didn’t count. This wasn’t the first time I had thrown a lot of greatswords into the forge and since I didn’t count in the past it didn’t make sense to start counting on this attempt. I can tell you it was relatively few in this sitting because I was only doing it for a couple of hours before I got it, and those hours included putting in orders, waiting for a bunch to be filled, and then going to toss in batches at a time. My best guess would be around 150 greatswords that night.

I don’t know the answer to your question, but is having a weapon with ascended stats really worth 1000g+ to you? When ascended weapons come out, you will be able to access them someway or another, whether through fractal relics or laurels or gold. It’s a good bet that the effort to get an ascended weapon will be nowhere near the effort to get a legendary. So it seems like you’re saying that you want to spend 1000g or more on a normal looking, exotic stat weapon so that you get a free upgrade to ascended stats when it comes out, rather than spending a day or a week earning the ascended weapon itself upon release.

Congrats Paradox! ^
This is a bit of a long story about my rocky journey toward Sunrise, read it if you’re interested =)
It started getting interesting around the time I posted this comment (below) here a couple of months ago.
Congrats to everyone who has finished their legendary(ies)!
I’m one of the stragglers
It’s taking me quite a while to craft mine, but I’m finally nearing the milestone of having everything except the precursor, and of course now I’m starting to feel the itch to play the forge with exotics. I know this is not a good idea, but having just spent months on the gifts, it’s really a grueling thought to spend double that time earning enough gold to buy Dawn on the TP. I am not the type to grind CoF repeatedly, though I do a lot of dungeons, including CoF, at my leisure.I almost logged in and bought a bunch of exotics to throw in this morning before work, but I restrained myself. I dread what I may do when I get home.
So please: Dissuade me! Dissuade me!
Unfortunately, I made a not great decision and went ahead with gambling exotics in the forge. I lost all my gold.
A few weeks later, I was a little distressed about how long it was taking to make the money back, and I made another not great decision, I started selling my saved T6 materials and lodestones to fund more forge attempts at Dawn.
Long story short, I lost most or all of my saved ingredients and did not get Dawn. I love the game, so I didn’t rage quit or anything, but I gave up on getting Sunrise at that point.
Anyway, fast forward to one week ago from today, I had made a bit of money back, between 150 and 200 gold, and had no intention of starting to buy back my T6 stuff or play the forge for more shots at the precursor. Then I started following Blurry’s post here: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/crafting/Made-The-Lover-then-Spark-Now-5-more/first
For those who haven’t seen it, the guy got like seven precursors in a week by throwing in tons of rares.
Right about now, you’re thinking ’Don’t do it, Facepunch! It’s a trick from the devil!"
Well, the devil got me again. I spent almost all of my replenished bank account on rares, but I finally got Dawn! I was very happy of course, but now I was in the exact opposite side of the boat that I had been in a couple months prior. Now I had the precursor and zero mats or lodestones.
I had very little gold, but I did have Dawn, so I made a plan that was pretty much entirely based on getting lucky a couple more times in the forge and put it into action.
I betrayed my sweet new precursor friend and sold her to the highest bidder (GASP!)
I used part of that money to buy rare daggers, hammers and staves. I got Spark the next day, after about 50g worth of daggers. I sold it, bought back Dawn, and allotted a chunk of my now pretty sizeable bank account to keep trying hammers and staves. After several days of trying, hundreds of each weapon type later, I got The Colossus yesterday. That put me at enough gold to buy back literally all of the materials I needed for Sunrise. So I did! And now I have almost everything I need!
After work today, I’m going to go home, do two Ascalonian Catacombs runs for the last of my tokens, and then I’m finally forging Sunrise!
I don’t know what the moral of my story is for those of you still on your journey, but I wish you all luck (and perhaps a bit of misfortune, just so that you can recover and have a roller coaster ride of a story to tell). I’ll post a screenshot of my warrior with her first legendary later tonight! Thanks for reading!
