Well I guess I’m one of the few dissenting voices in this thread. I absolutely love the way professions and roles are set up in this game. I think ANet delivered a product as-advertised. Sure, min-maxers are always going to go for the highest DPS class, but that doesn’t mean the other classes cannot do the same content, and do it well. Can a group of randomly selected classes run CoF1 in 5 minutes? Probably not, but they can run it just fine. Same for any dungeon, in my experience.
Some of my least favorite things about other games had been waiting for X class to begin a dungeon and having people rage on X class for not using their one required skill at the right time in order for the party to succeed. This is a different kind of game, and in my opinion, it works.

I agree with you, OP. It’s sad that there is such a noticeable difference in quality between legendaries. This difference is independent of personal taste, in my opinion, and suggests rushed or inferior design, e.g. your comment about the fog aura being the same particle, just rotating differently. It just looks cheap. And it’s upsetting because there are certain legendaries that fit my weapon preference well, but I’m not going to go for them simply because they aren’t as fine tuned or “legendary” as others.
In my case, I play an axe/mace warrior, and I hardly ever use greatsword, but I’m going for Sunrise anyway because if I’m going to spend 1000+ hours working toward something, it needs to look like it’s worth it. I was initially going to craft Frostfang, but after I had been at the grind for a while, I realized that the movement trailing on Sunrise was just something I had to have. Sure, Frostfang has some subtle movement trailing, but it really doesn’t look much different than the Corrupted weapons’ cold effects.

Congrats to everyone who has finished their legendary(ies)!
I’m one of the stragglers
It’s taking me quite a while to craft mine, but I’m finally nearing the milestone of having everything except the precursor, and of course now I’m starting to feel the itch to play the forge with exotics. I know this is not a good idea, but having just spent months on the gifts, it’s really a grueling thought to spend double that time earning enough gold to buy Dawn on the TP. I am not the type to grind CoF repeatedly, though I do a lot of dungeons, including CoF, at my leisure.
I almost logged in and bought a bunch of exotics to throw in this morning before work, but I restrained myself. I dread what I may do when I get home.
So please: Dissuade me! Dissuade me!

I can’t speak directly to this staff, but in the past I have found that items sit differently in preview than they do when actually equipped. Specifically, I spent a good deal of time looking for a shield skin that didn’t clip with my hair, only to find that they sit further from your character’s back when equipped than they do in preview window, an in fact most of them don’t clip at all when equipped.

Literally everything the OP said. With the system they’re using right now, I look at ANets business practices like a downright scam.
A scam, really? It said right in the patch notes that the crates will give weapon skins rarely. I guess I’m going to get infracted for this, but sometimes you just have to call a moron a moron.
And no, I don’t like that ANet is selling RNG, my calling you an idiot should not be interpreted as defending them.

Well a fused weapon can’t be sold, so it has no value at all, other than merchant price. So whether it is worth more than a legendary or not is completely subjective, maybe that’s what you’re asking about, so that’s what I’ll answer =)
I decided to buy 5 keys and only 5 keys after hearing horror stories of the gems wasted on fused attempts. I wasn’t ga-ga over the skins, I didn’t feel I absolutely had to have one, but I did like them and decided to try for fun. I was super lucky and got a ticket on the 5th chest, then I traded it in for the fused mace, as I’m an axe/mace warrior, and most mace skins in the game not to my tastes.
I am also slowing working toward Sunrise, which will be my first and probably only legendary. I am doing this in a way that is legendary to me, i.e. not CoF farming for gold and buying all the materials needed, but playing the entirety of the game and saving up as I go (note that I’m not saying CoF farming is “doing it wrong,” this is just how I prefer to earn my legendary).
With that background as context, my opinion is no, my fused mace is not worth more than a legendary.

I didn’t check yesterday, so I’m not sure what the Southsun event has done to this zone, but on Jade Quarry the temple events get crushed by a huge amount of players pretty much as soon as they become contested. Balthazar and Grenth in Straits and CS are a different story, especially after the 4/30 update.

Hey man,
You cannot control your wifes decisions, but you can take ahold of your own. Make yourself your own role model and everything else will fall into place.
This is fantastic advice! You mentioned that you feel humiliated and demoralized and trapped. Your pride may have taken a pummeling, but it doesn’t have to stay down. You can never be trapped if you make a conscious choice to stay where you are. Choose to be with your son whether you have sole custody of him or not. Love him and take care of him despite his mother’s actions, because it’s what he needs and what you need. As for his mother, I’m sure you have feelings for her, so it hurts every time she betrays you. Remember though, pride takes a hit when someone plays you and betrays you, but she can’t betray your trust once you stop giving it to her.

I think the ‘take a break’ suggestion is a good one, but I’m not sure it actually works based on what we’ve seen in the game so far. For example, if you felt this way 5 months ago and were to take a break and come back around now, assuming there could be more to do, you’d come back to a game with almost nothing new to do. Living story was a long, drawn out nothing, in my opinion. Sure parts of it were entertaining, but it’s about a days worth of play. Everything else that has changed has been balance stuff and some bug fixes. Maybe this isn’t the case if you play sPvP or tPvP or WvW exclusively, but in PvE, this seems to be right.

I just don’t see the problem here. In my opinion, emotes are perfect cash shop items. I don’t see why ANet would or should release fun/goofy things like this for free in a buy to play game.
The way I see it, they have two ways to support themselves with new digital items:
1) Develop and release new content that requires people to play toward the goal of attaining new items. People play more, people spend more in miscellaneous cash shop purchases while playing.
2) Create and sell items in the cash shop directly. It may not keep people playing, but it is still money in the bank.
There is no 3) Develop new rewards and give it to players immediately for free, although they do this on occasion because they are nice people. Doesn’t mean you get to complain when they charge for it.
So the question is, would you rather have them implement a new dungeon/fractal that you have to grind for a few weeks for an RNG chance at a new emote?
I’m no psychic, but I’m pretty sure if they did that we’d be seeing complaint threads about grinding JUST for an emote. Gasp!

i’m only 16 but i feel i saw all he have to offer, and from now on, its only numbers improvements
While you won’t be able to unlock more skills after around level 30, you do unlock higher tiers of traits. The traits bring a lot more interesting play into the mix, so while you’ll be using the same small number of key presses for your skills, you’ll actually have the options to be doing much more with each press. There is a huge difference in how interesting it is to just play the game at level 30 and at level 80. At 30, you have all your weapon and utility skills, and your elite skill, but only the first trait tier unlocked. At 80, when you have all traits available and 70 trait points to spend, combat actually become a lot of fun. Stick with it, and remember that we all feel your pain every time we decide to level an alt =D

If it truly does drop the onyx and other lodestones I’m there but does anyone else have this experience? Is this just wishful thinking?
After reading other posts like this and then this one, I gobbled up my 150 jugs and 250+ drops of karma and went on an opening spree. I didn’t count how many I opened, probably in the area of 400-500. I now have 22 lodestones, though some of them were from the clover recipes I forged with the obsidian shards from the boxes. Most were from the boxes though, and I got at least one of each type from the boxes. For sure, I know these came from the boxes: 4-5 crystal, 2-3 onyx, 3 destroyer, 3 charged, 1 glacial, 1 corrupted, 2 molten.
While this is nice and all, this is the most effective way I have found to get my hands on lodestones, other than TP (because I play pretty casually, which does not involve hours per night farming sparks for lodestones or farming cof for gold for lodestones). Too bad it takes so long to get enough karma to do this. I’m slowly working toward sunrise, so I’ll probably just TP all the lodestones except for charged, then use the profits to buy more charged.
Thanks for the post OP, you convinced me to go ahead and do this, and I’m glad I did.

I’m sorry but those of you who continue to respond to this issue with “L2READ, BRO,” are wrong, in my opinion.
1: Why would someone even suspect that ‘Unique’ in this context means that one cannot equip two of them?
You say people can’t read or don’t understand what unique means? Fine.
What does the word unique mean?
From the dictionary, the most appropriate definition is:
Unique: existing as the only one or as the sole example; single; solitary in type or characteristics.
Unique does not mean anything like limited to a single usage or restricted in application, it just describes an object’s existence. If you really want to adhere to the definition of the word unique, then purchase of the item should result in its removal from the vendor for all players on the server, or at the very least for the player’s account.
2: For an unsuspecting player, there is no red flag associated with a simple adjective in an item’s description.
For people who have not played other MMOs in which ‘Unique’ is used in the same context as GW2’s Ascended gear, seeing a word like unique in a description box is not something that shouts “do a little research on how this word changes the item’s usability!” We see little adjectives to describe item tiers all the time, and they have no real meaning other than being arbitrary terms to classify the item. When Ascended was added, no one said, “Hey, this item says ascended, I should look into how the meaning of the word ascended might play into the item’s features.” I realize that there is a difference between tier descriptors and the ‘Unique’ descriptor, I’m just saying that we see things all the time that we don’t scrutinize because we have no reason to do so. These unique items all have little descriptors on them e.g.
The Queen’s Necklace
Commissioned for Queen Jennah by a council member, but found too ornate for her tastes.
Should a person see this line and start deconstructing its possible implications for usage of the item?
Just to add this, I was not one of the unlucky ones who invested time and money into an item only to discover I could not equip it, but I probably would have, had I not been fortunate enough to learn from a post like this a while back, before I bought my ascended stuff. It’s just shocking to me how many people out there are blaming the user for being stupid or ignorant or what-have-you.

The key to staying alive in dungeons is damage avoidance over damage recovery. You could use up all your traits and gear stats spec’ing for vitality and get your HP to 17k or whatever, but you’ll still be killed in 1-2 shots in some dungeon fights. A better approach is to learn the fights, predict when a big dmg skill is coming your way, and use your dodge or one of your many, many aegis options to keep from taking the hit. Sure, there are benefits to having a larger HP pool and more toughness, but they are not as important as avoiding damage altogether. That’s why berserker builds are very popular right now. If you do it right, you can have your cake (big damage output) and eat it too (stay alive in any fight). People who scoff at berserker builds will point toward some guy they did CoF with who died in every encounter and say berserkers are useless because “if you’re dead you do no dps.” That’s true, but there are plenty of great players who stay up just as well as someone in PVT gear and do tons more damage.
TL;DR: Being a tank in GW2 is not about using your skills properly to survive damage, it’s about using your skills properly to avoid being hit at all.

…I ever wanted is to have some fun, facing some challenges if there’s any. But no! LOWBIE are not welcome or something.
Here’s the problem, in my view: Many people do not share your goals. You may want to have some fun and face some challenges, but lots of people just want to get their fractal daily done as quickly as possible, and they view an upscaled character as a possible hindrance to that.
I think that view is often wrong, and if you have an inkling of how to play your guardian, I’m sure there would be no problem completing the run in reasonable time.
I had the same problem when my guardian was 60 and I wanted to level by running TA explorable paths (because I was very familiar with the dungeon, having done it many times on my main). The few times I was allowed to join a group, we did just fine, and the runs went just as smoothly as they had in a group full of 80s. But often, I would join a group and someone in the group would say “Are you switching to an 80 toon?” I would respond that I would like to run it on this toon for the exp and tokens, and they would drop without any further discussion. Then the rest of the group either kicked me or asked me nicely to leave so that they could fill the group.

What use are the zerker warriors if they don’t know how to dodge/whirlwind at the right time, just aimlessly flail around with their greatswords and end up downed in most encounters?
This is addressing the player, not the class. If you play a ranger or necro (or a tank build warrior, for that matter) in dungeons and you can mitigate damage correctly by dodging and using weapon/utility skills:
1) switch to zerker warrior
2) apply the damage mitgation skills you have learned to this class+build
3) watch your dungeon run times plummet
4) ????
5) profit
This is why zerk warrior is seen as superior in pve. In the hands of an equally skilled player, they outperform.

It has been discussed several times over the past couple of months, but as far as I’ve read devs haven’t said anything beyond the fact that it’s something that they are looking into doing, but not actively developing.
Some people have taken the silence since then to mean that they aren’t working on it, while others think the devs are silent because if they were to make an announcement that a precursor acquisition method is on the way, the precursor market currently in the game will crash since everyone will just wait for the incoming hunt, and would also stop buying rares and exotics by the hundreds to toss into the MF.
TL;DR No official updates from ANet, feel free to speculate on what that means.
This forum is a wretched hive of scum and villainy. ~DevilLordLaser
jwaz, I don’t mean to speak for Nachtz, but I’m not sure he/she would disagree with you about what ANet should or should not do, only what they will or will not do. The fact that transmuted Twilights and Sunrises still have purple text, but cannot be used to create Eternity suggests that the purple text is kept as an aesthetic, but the item is no longer a true Twilight or Sunrise.
When ANet releases Ascended weapons and run a script to convert the stats on all existing Legendary weapons to match the new BiS stats, your transmuted Legendaries may very well not get recognized and upgraded. Again, I’m not arguing that’s the way it should be, only that that’s the way it could be.
Just to throw in my two cents, I also think it’s ridiculous that the Legendaries have only 1 stats option. What if you play a zerker or condition build? You would have to take a handicap if you want to use your PVT Legendary. It makes no sense that you have to work so hard for an item that will make you less effective.

You’re missing my point. At that level, no amount of toughness or health is going to save you from those hits, therefore it is absolutely pointless to give up the DPS/crit for that kind of gear.
.
Actually, I understood your point just fine, and for the most part I agree with you about damage negation. That said, there is a noticeable difference, in my experience, in survivability in high level fractals or against certain dungeon bosses, e.g. Lupicus, depending on what gear you’re wearing. If you time every dodge and use every block/reflect skill when appropriate, sure you can stay alive in berserker’s. But even those of us who can and have soloed bosses like Lupi can get hit with some bad luck e.g. many poison bubbles in a row on Lupi p3. Having an extra 3k HP can and will save you in cases like this.
I am not at all trying to make an argument that berserker’s is not a fantastic gear set. I use it. I love it. I’m just saying that one cannot march in and say it’s the “one viable” set in the game. It’s just not true.
This forum is a wretched hive of scum and villainy. ~DevilLordLaser
High-level fractals where one or two hits kill you. At that point, all that matters is damage.
I’m pretty sure that a large part of what matters is whether it is one or two hits that kills you.
Also, I don’t agree with you at all that berzerker is the only viable build for high fractals.
But even if your point hit the nail on the head in regard to what I asked for from the poster I quoted, this would be an example of one dungeon in one subsection of the game, i.e. PvE, where berzerker is the only viable gear, and would be a reflection of broken dungeon mechanics, not a lack of viable options for gear in general.
This forum is a wretched hive of scum and villainy. ~DevilLordLaser
God, how dumb are you guys? You dont see anything wrong with there being one viable gear type?
And it is the only viable gear type because…you said so? Please explain how every other gear type is inviable in the three main parts of the game (PvE, WvW and tPvP/sPvP). It will not be enough to give examples of zerker gear simply outshining other gear to a marginal degree, as the words you’ve chosen are “one viable gear type.”

I would agree with the above, except D/D ele is lacking in the damage department. Could be a learn to play issue for me, ofc, as ele is not my main. Mobility is great, survivability is great, but killing is slower than it should be, imo.
Thief is also a lot of fun to play. Good mobility, good damage.

I also enjoy farming, but I have to move around when I do it, not farm one event chain like Penitent Path for hours, that would drive me crazy. I have been playing since launch and I will go farm aimlessly in Orr or Frostgorge when I’m not in the mood for a dungeon, but I’ve never gotten an exotic or a lodestone. Not once. At first it was like a playing a free lottery. The biggest misconception in this thread is the biggest misconception in MMO’s everywhere. Full DPS is NOT harder to play than tanky/healy/supporty characters, no matter how much the DPS meter kings want it to be.
Maybe I missed a specific comment in this thread that you are referencing, but I don’t think people are saying full DPS is harder to play than tanky/healy/support. I think what is being said is that you need a certain level of skill (read: familiarity with boss mechanics) in order to stay alive in full glass. The skill difference being discussed is between those in full glass who can stay up, and those that can’t. Glass is preferred over tanky/healy/support because it gets your from A to B faster, not because it requires more skill outright.

I don’t think exclusivity of apostrophes is quite the same as exclusivity of armor and other things related to NPC character appearance, so I have to disagree. Also, while The Fulcrum of Fate can be interpreted as having the same meaning as Fate’s Fulcrum, it just doesn’t have the same ring to it! It’s inferior, in my opinion. What if Destiny’s Edge was called The Edge of Destiny? There is a difference, and it is very important to me. But I thank you for contributing your point of view to this discussion!

Dear ArenaNet, thank you for a fantastic game! I love it!
I have several level 80 characters and I would love to further develop their lore by assembling a guild for 5 of them, much like Destiny’s Edge. I would like to name my guild:
Fate’s Fulcrum
Alas, there is a problem. Apostrophes are not permitted characters for guild or character names. So, what are my other options?
Fates Fulcrum or The Fulcrum of Fate
These are unacceptable alternatives, in my opinion. I really care about using correct spelling, grammar and punctuation in my real life as well as while assuming my in-game persona. It really bothers me, for example, when I see someone who has spelled their name wrong in order to use the name they wanted. Have a little bit of respect for your character! Get creative rather than settling for some kind of ‘sloppy seconds’ alternative! I think about it all day when this happens. If I see several people with names spelled wrong, I think about each one for at least a day, so you could see how my weeks get filled up fast.
Please consider this, ArenaNet! Several types of alternative characters are already permitted in naming. Why not expand it to include the apostrophe? I believe there must be many other players who agree with me. Speak up, silent masses, speak up!

With a little bit of work from ANet, dungeons could have a point-based scoring system. Your team would get points for killing mobs of course, but you’d get bonuses at the end for faster clears, and maybe stuff like no deaths/wipes. There would have to be some kinda of delicate balance between the amount of points you can get for trash mob killing versus the bonus for faster clears. The point being that a team that enjoys full-clearing the dungeon could still compete for first place with the team that skips all trash for a super efficient speed clear.

While I agree with you that hidden or difficult to obtain rewards are fun, I would suggest that for every player like us that enjoys things like this, there will be a dozen players with very vocal objections. Just look at the way people respond any time ANet releases a new mini or weapon skin that cannot be obtained immediately. If the content is somehow gated by RNG, whether it is a low chance drop or a BL chest gold sink like the fused weapons, or a skill gate, e.g. the Mad King JP achievement contributing to the halloween title, many, many people will be up in arms because they don’t like that there are achievements or rewards that are actually difficult to obtain. Maybe you’d say who cares about the people complaining, but if I were ANet, I’d be trying to avoid having my official forums explode with nerdrage they way they seem to with every event or content update.

Just adding my recent experience with lag. Since the 3/26 patch, I have regularly been experiencing skill lag in PvE and numerous DCs during dungeons. This happens most often after 4 PM Eastern time, and then throughout the rest of the night. I stress that this has been a regular problem since 3/26. I don’t think it’s anything to do with my own network, as my wife is often playing as well on her PC (which is identical to mine in terms of hardware) and while I’m struggling to complete a dungeon with 3-4 DCs per hour and even more skill lag spikes, she’s having no issue. I really have no idea what the source of the issue is, but I hope that if this is happening to many players, you will get it fixed, ANet, if it’s something on your end that is.

Using MF in a dungeon party is selfish. There is no argument to be made against that. Using MF while soloing in the world doesn’t make sense in my opinion. It will slow down your kill speed so you may have twice the chance to loot rare stuff, stuff but you may be killing half as slow, or even dying on large pulls which is hurting your time/reward ratio. Just my opinion, if you think MF is helping, by all means use it. Just have the decency to acknowledge it if I’m in a group with you and I ask, so that I can leave.

I took the survey. On the final point, I’m not what some people call an ‘ANet fanboy,’ but I do think in some ways GW2 is a ‘revolutionary’ MMO in that there are enough things that are different and better about it than previous MMOs I have played that if future MMOs don’t follow suit, I will not be able to play them at the same level of enjoyment that I experience in GW2. E.G. shared experience/rewards without formal groups, hearts type questing rather than traditional questing, careful attention to making maps interesting besides just places to quest (JPs, vistas, etc., and of course the attention to detail and art quality that makes everything so pretty).

I’m seeing lots of confusion about why ANet decided to do it this way. I agree that if they changed the acquisition method to direct purchase of a Fused Token from the gem store and many people bought it, the sheer volume of smaller purchases would probably make just as much or more money for them than comparably fewer, but very large key purchases for chest gambling. But I’m not sure it would turn out that way. People like things when they’re more rare. People will do more to get things that are more rare. I think it’s quite possible that making a Fused Ticket purchasable directly would result in an initial flood of purchases, but a sharp drop fairly quickly, as people decide they don’t want to pay $20 for something they’ve already had a chance to see in-game a dozen times. Maybe I’m completely wrong, it’s just a thought.

Don’t be a sadpanda and don’t let crafting stop you from getting your monthly laurels/karma! Do you have some copper ore and green wood logs stacked up in your collectibles? Just go learn Artificing! Then do this:
1) Refine your copper ore into bronze ingots.
2) Refine your green wood logs into green wood planks.
If doing this got you to artificer level 50, then you should have a recipe for a bronze plated dowel. If not, craft a few of whatever new recipes popped up while you were leveling until you are 50.
3) Use ingots and planks you just refined to craft bronze plated dowels, they are master tier and will get you your monthly.
4) Dance.

Except I doubt that everyone needed or wanted the reward and ran a Jumping puzzle specially for the Mad King Slipper.
What do you mean? Of course they wanted the reward. Remember that this was months ago when getting a piece of exotic gear was the bee’s knees. And even if they didn’t care about the gear, LOTS of people were appalled that they were prevented from getting the achievement because it was too hard. Can you imagine the audacity of a game developer to make an achievement something you need to earn through skill?
