New Armor Sets

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Facepunch.5710

They are a reskin. You can’t really argue against the definition of a word.

They took pieces of the Whispers heavy armor, removed the ‘top layer’ and added on a new top layer.

Neb, I’ll say this bluntly but without the intention of being rude: You’re not right about this. As you seem to understand, a reskin is simply using a different 2D texture on the same exact 3D model. These two sets are not only not exact, they’re not even really close to exact. Is the silhouette somewhat similar? Sure, I’ll give you that.

Did you preview the armor in-game or are you working from the darkly dyed, low detail preview image supplied by the OP?

Preview it in-game, change the dye colors to make the different pieces of the armor stand out more and you’ll see the difference easily. Even the pieces that are somewhat similar, like the leggings, are not very much so.

I think these are fantastic (on human female) and I’m glad to see some new armor skins coming into the game. I’ve been looking for a skin for my warrior’s (useless) PVT dolyak set. Here’s hoping that we can buy them in a set like the Profane/Kryta/Primeval sets, and acquiring them has nothing to do with RNG.

I was about to start to kill these holos and linked a Wp in map chat then started to wait. A thief comes up with shortbow and says " Don’t wait they are always gone before you port" then spams clusterbomb on the mobs, killing them in seconds.

I want to wait but because of this one person doing this I have to race across the map to get any.

This is the problem I encountered as well. I agree that sharing is caring, but if even a few players aren’t doing this, it kinda falls apart.

I can’t offer much but to echo many of the posts here. I’m at around 1500 hours and I still love the game, but I can’t play it like I did in the first few months after launch. I do other stuff with a lot of that time, and when I’m specifically in the mood to log in to do this or that, I do it. This works well for me, since I’m able to bypass the frustrating ‘login and stand around in Lion’s Arch until I think of something I’m in the mood to do’ phase.

Furthermore, I think it means something that you only got it 10 months into the game, while other so-called fans are posting burn out stuff.

I just want to point out that statements like this really make it seem like you’re more interested in furthering your viewpoint than objectively discussing whether there is a content problem at endgame. There are 8 dungeons in the game and each one has 3-4 paths and a story mode. You could do one dungeon run per week and have your DM title. You could have it several times over by doing just three dungeons per week.

I’m not trying to defend people who complain there is nothing to do, because I happen to think the game is fun if you want it to be. But please, for the sake of making an effective argument if nothing else, think about what you’re saying before you say it.

I really hope that if they do have RNG at play in the Rich Dragon Coffers, that it’s a high chance. I think that the shield, axe and greatsword are some of the best looking skins the game has offered yet, and I’m hopeful that the other weapons will be just as impressive. For someone who has a bunch of 80s and may want a staff, axe, shield, shortbow and hammer, a low chance RNG distribution mechanism is unrealistic, chances are you’ll be lucky to get one of them. But if Rich Coffers are a high chance, and you get one on average for every 1600 gems or so, I think they’ll make a killing on this skin set.
My wife would probably club me over the head, but I’d be willing to spend $20 each on the weapons I mentioned if the skins are all as impressive as the shield and axe are.

Read a book. Take a walk. Learn another language. Write a poem. Pet a dog. Dance. Ride your bike. Bake a cake. Volunteer somewhere. Fall in love.

There’s lots to do after 80.

I’m not trying to pick a fight, but when people like the OP post topics like this, they shouldn’t be treated like they have no life outside of the game. I have the same question as the OP and I have other hobbies, I’m married and I’m working on my PhD. I have a life and I’m not looking for advice on how to live it. What I am interested in are things that I might do to renew my interest in this specific hobby of mine. So why is the assumption often that we do nothing but play GW2 and need to get away from that?

If I take your advice and go outside for a walk, what will that help the next time I sit down to play GW2 for a couple hours and am looking for a fun way to spend my time in game?

I apologize if this comes off as hostile, that’s not my intent, I’ve just seen this reply several times now to threads like this one and I think it comes across in a really condescending way every time I see it.

Yes, people can mistakenly extrapolate results from small sample sizes and make unfounded assertions. And yes, many have done so in the past. That doesn’t mean that every similar claim ever made on the topic will be false.

From Regina’s post on stuff to do in Southsun between the 14th and 28th:

  • Speak with one of the Settler Negotiators for a special map-wide magic find buff or with one of the Consortium Negotiators for a map-wide gold find buff.

Today’s patch notes don’t say anything about the buffs in the ‘Still Available in Southsun Cove’ section.

Taken together, this suggests to me that the buff is no longer available. Since it was absolutely fantastic for farming, I’m interested to get the skinny on this, can anyone provide an answer? I’m still at work, or I’d just check it out for myself =P

I can solo them, but usually my group members ask me to reset or die so they can WP and we can try again. Usually they’ll try 2-3 times then people start leaving.

Good luck with your clovers, OP, and remember to use the 1x recipe from now on, I got mine with a pretty constant 30% chance using it.

Also, I would use master salvage kits on cheap rares, save BL kits for exotics with nice runes/sigils in them. Keep the ectos, sell the runes, buy more ectos with the profit.

Hard content needed for gw2's longevity.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Facepunch.5710

Facepunch.5710

A hard mode like in gw1 would be awesome, where all zones got scaled to lvl 80, and you had to recomplete the hearts and skill challenges/vistas all over

Hard mode in the open world won’t ever exist in this game. It divides the playerbase too much. But in dungeons it’s certainly possible.

Hard content is not meant for casuals, its expected to divide the playerbase

This is what would happen if ANet released new open world content that was specifically designed for the portion of the players that wants hard content:

ANet
“Hey players, here’s some new content! It’s really hard, just like you wanted!”

Players who want hard content, probably a large fraction of players
“Yay! This is the best!”

Players who don’t want harder content, also probably a large fraction of players
“Did you seriously just spend a ton of resources and development on content that caters to about half of your players and ignore the rest? WhineFestRagequitX9000

Though, I have to agree with Vayne, probably this would be best for dungeons. Design a couple of new dungeons and include a hard mode and everyone (read: all PvE’ers) is happy.

Why still downed state in WvW?

in WvW

Posted by: Facepunch.5710

Facepunch.5710

I like the downed state idea. Maybe skills could use some tweaking, what doesnt.

But I dont follow the complaint of “I killed him he should be dead wuwuwu” … if you kill someone he is dead and have to be revived by someone else or at a WP. People arent dead in downed state, they’re just on their last leg. If you attack someone, he goes down and you break off, you didnt kill him.

If you want to be realistic about it like you are inferring in your post, then they would lay there “downed” and freaking bleed out no matter how many idiots held out their hands and stood over them, because they just got their face chopped in half with a sword.

The word you meant to use was implying, not inferring, except he isn’t implying that he wants things to be realistic, he’s outright stating that people continue to argue that if you ‘down’ someone, you’ve won the fight, when that is not the case. The reason it is not the case is not because it isn’t realistic, just because that isn’t how the game works. In the game, downed =/= dead.

What I did say is that downed state is an intentional mechanic in the game, and to be appalled that it hasn’t been removed, as the OP seems to be, simply because some players have posted criticisms of it is just silly.

It’s part of the game, if you don’t like it, don’t play WvW or play a different game altogether. The developers are not framing the game’s updates around what parts of the game you personally give a thumbs-up.

Comon dude, it’s even in your signature. It’s not like this is a new issue either way, there are several topics out there about downed state disparity and reasons why it detracts from WvW, strategy, fun, and multiple other factors.

The argument can be made both ways for strategy I suppose, but there is nothing more infuriating than winning a fight and having a zerg roll in and just rez everyone. All downed state really does is allow players to make mistakes and get a second chance for playing poorly the first go around.

You are actually trying to make the argument that a number of players have detailed how they perceive downed state to be a harmful mechanic so it is therefore, objectively, a harmful mechanic.

I am too going for sunrise atm, them kohomal’il or whatever it is lol but I do an axe/mace gs rotation combo, it puts out a lot more damage than just axe/mace, but thats off topic.

I do think Frostfang is very cool, but it just doesn’t have the same level of pop that you get with the sunrise trailing effects. If I’m going to be making exactly one legendary (I am), the gap in their visuals make it a no brainer, and I think that’s unfortunate.

I also run the axe/mace/GS combo, but when I need to go ranged for a fight, it’s the axe/mace that I keep, and the GS I switch out, so I’d consider axe my primary.

There will never be content in GW2 that is “hard enough” for highly-skilled players. The nature of damage mitigation (i.e., you either evaded/blocked/reflected/etc. the damage or you didn’t) ensures this.

I agree with this.

There are, of course, many ways to increase the difficulty of content (other than just making enemies attacks stronger or more frequent), but when you add the caveat that increasing the difficulty should not result in some professions out-performing others, I think your options start falling away quickly.

I’m getting all the game content I want from launch and updates and I have no interest in these mini pets and limited time weapon skins.

^ This.

This discussion isn’t about the initial value of the purchase price, i can think of plenty of games that people put thousands of hours into that have the same initial price (Battlefield, Black Ops, The Sims, SimCity, etc.). This is about what is perceived as a shady practice to keep the money rolling in. It’s about how you can’t even value most of these items since your only buying a chance to get them. It’s always been about those things, not about whether you got your money out of the purchase price or not. I’m satisfied with what i’ve put into the game so far (aside from the 200 i dropped for a fused weapon, my fault i know, but i really didn’t expect it to take that much), but i’m not happy with these practices, I also don’t just want to speak with my wallet.

Actually, no, it’s not only about the shadiness of these sales, since my original comment was in response to a user who, in this thread, stated that people who are not complaining just don’t realize they are being extorted. He has since clarified his remarks.

How do I get into my first dungeon?

It is more frustrating to not know someone is new and have them doing weird stuff lol.

Yes, one thousand times this. I run arah a lot because I enjoy it, and I have no problem if someone says oh hey, i havent done this path, so please feel free to explain anything that needs explaining. What is TERRIBLE for the group is when first timers dont communicate and instead they just do things that gets the group wiped. I don’t mind donating some of my time to teach, but I do mind having my time wasted by poor communication.

On Lottery (RNG) Boxes

The majority of players really think that they are getting a F2P game after they B2P. And, they will defend to the death the model without ever noticing that they are being extorted in the process.

You make some fair points, but I have to object to this insinuation that I’m being extorted and I’m just too ignorant to see it. Yes, I did get a F2P game after B2P. The game is everything I want it to be. I’m not defending the model to death because I’m blind, I’m doing it because, for me, it’s been fantastic. Please point out where I’m being extorted if I’m getting all the game content I want from launch and updates and I have no interest in these mini pets and limited time weapon skins.

As more players pitch in gold for gems the cost to “earn” these items continues to climb, keeping up with this inflated rate over time is what i’m talking about. You could easily blow your entire earnings on these RNG boxes and have very little to show for it. Down the road, when gold to gems hits a 4 or 5 to 100 ratio, you’d be even further behind. It’s a very straightforward system to keep these gem shop items out of reach for players only willing to use in game gold to purchase stuff, it’s really quite clever.

No it doesn’t “force players to spend money” but every time new content is provided in the gem shop, players will get to the point of not having a viable choice other than to spend money on those new shinies.

Well I see your argument now I suppose, I just disagree. I guess items like weapon skins and minis are technically content, but I see them as little bonuses outside of the game itself. Are you insinuating that ANet knows that people can become obsessed about having every limited time and their exploiting that to make money? If that’s the argument, then I guess I would say the player is at fault if they can’t control themselves enough to not spent lots of cash on rolls of the dice.

I see a fantastic game, better than any pay to play game I’ve played in the past, and there’s no subscription fee. If the price for that is that when I’ve really gotta have a limited time cosmetic item, I may be too short on in game gold and have to drop ten bucks, fine. If another aspect of that is that some items will just be out of reach because of the RNG and my unwillingness to spend more, then I’m fine with that, too.

I'm killing myself in Fractals, and for what?

I think you’re right, OP. That’s why I hardly do fractals. I have 4 ascended pieces from laurels and guild commendations. So having the backpiece really isn’t enough motivation as it’s not a make or break issue in my wvw performance. So the only reasons I see to do fractals are 1) the skins, and 2) the fun.

I do think they are fun to do now and then, so I do. I also think the skins are fantastic, but I have heard so many horror stories about doing runs for months and never getting a weapon you can use, so no thanks. If ANet ever produces an update that makes weapon tickets drop instead of specific weapons, then I’ll dive in until I get one of those. Sorry about your misfortune, but thanks for sharing and saving others the same misery.

precursor prices dropping?

in Crafting

im sorry but no, this is a ludicrous statement the game has only been out 8-9 months so how can you notice the trend of fluctuation considering the legendaries hit this price a couple of months ago, dont sway the player by trying to sound elite -_- imho yes the prices are dropping and will continue to drop, the items dont have that race value anymore so ppl arent in a rush to get them, not only that theyre getting more common which means they loose value

So ocgreg’s opinion is wrong and yours is right? It’s easy to see fluctuations in items over short periods of times if you check on those prices regularly. I watch prices for certain items and they continually rise and fall the same exact min/max prices like clockwork. Maybe ocgreg plays the TP and has paid a lot of attention to precursor prices since launch. He’s giving his SOLICITED advice just like you, so why the attack?

Everything after the initial purchase of the game is not free, not buy any stretch of the imagination. Earning that kind of gold to buy limited one time items is putting a time limit on how much gold you can earn before the items go away. In almost every case, you simply cannot earn enough gold to keep up with these special offers, it’s physically impossible. There will be plenty of people boasting that they can earn 100g a week, but the fact of the matter is, it’s not happening on any grand scale, if it were the economy would look entirely different.

I don’t think Trogdor was suggesting that all gem shop items are free, maybe he was, but I interpreted his comment as being directed toward content updates, which are 100% free. Even if I’m wrong, the option to buy items with real money does not in any way translate to ‘you must spend money on this game.’ So yes, everything in the game is free, and new free things are being added, at no cost to the players. The cash shop is not free, of course it’s not. Are you suggesting that the cash shop items should be free in a no-subscription game model with regular, free content updates?

In regard to earning enough gold to convert to gems and buy gem store items, I read your argument as assuming that a players waits until a gem store update occurs, then grinds like crazy to get enough gold to convert to gems and buy the item before it’s removed. In actuality, if you play the game you should be making gold fairly often and will be sitting on quite a pile of it when a gem store item you like comes out. Maybe you grind a little more to afford it, but I’ve never come across a situation you describe where it’s physically impossible to make enough gold in time to purchase an item I like.

CoF farming needs fixed

personally i don’t mind those people farming cof p1. They can grind their brains off to get 1k gold per week for all I care.

yeah, this. if anything the dungeon is just too easy in general. i view the berserker warr/mes thing as simply the most efficient way that min/maxers have found to run an already simple dungeon.

i have 6 80s, all professions except engi and ranger atm, and i regularly do cof 1 and 2 on each of them. i do it all through pugging via GW2LFG.com and have no problems finding groups for different professions. so i guess i don’t see the problem. the ads for zerkers with 3 ascended gear and gear pinging and all that are ridiculous in an absurdly funny kind of way, but i really don’t see where it’s hurting the game.

please don’t dismiss this with your “trolls inc” comment. if you disagree with me, discuss why.

How do I get into my first dungeon?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Meh to bad…was looking forward to some quick and fun dungeon game time.

Your biggest obstacle is getting to a point where you’re familiar with the dungeon. Some people really enjoy running a dungeon for the first time and learning it by trial and error, but in my experience, most PUGs do not want these people in their groups because they’ve already earned their stripes and now they want to fly through the content as quickly as possible and collect their reward.

You could simply post on GW2LFG.com with a note in the description that you’re new to the dungeon. It might get you an invite from some kind souls, and who knows, could lead to a guild if you all get along =)

With the way dungeons are designed and played in this game, many people will suggest that you level your toon a bit more before trying a dungeon. It’s not a requirement, but most PUGs will moan and groan if there is anyone in the group that is not level 80, because they see it as someone who is not contributing as much to the group as everyone else, and may even drag them down if that person is inexperienced and keeps dying.

I suggest you take RagingDragon’s advice and try to find a PvE guild that runs dungeons and would be willing to show you the ropes, it will make the experience much more enjoyable for you. Good luck! =)
