I previewed the dyes on dulfy, so a bit of detail may have been lost in the screenshot, but they look like dyes that already exist, or they’re 1 RGB point from an existing one.
Why do people pay 50g+ for stuff like this? At least the flame and frost and other recent dyes have had interesting contrast settings that makes them stand out.
I don’t mind if the new dyes go to the gem store instead of into the game, and I’d love to spend my money on something, but I’m not going to drop ten bucks for a dye that I could match with a little TP previewing and 94 copper.

Hi everyone, I just want to say again that I think this CDI has been awesome and I can’t wait to see how some of these ideas might be implemented into the game.
I also want to take a second to bring up an issue that negatively affects horizontal character progression for myself and many other players, and that’s armor distortion and/or clipping. I’ve seen it brought up many times, but I just want to briefly mention it here in hopes of getting a response from you, Chris or Izzy.
The problem is simply that, for some races, many armor sets seem to have been stretched to fit or improperly scaled to fit, or just don’t fit at all. For those who care about their character’s look, it can be hard enough to get everything just right, but add to that the fact that for some race/sex combinations, a large number of armor pieces just don’t fit as they should.
I’ll use Arah dungeon armor on Sylvari males as an example here, but there are many more. See the first attached image, the skirt on the leggings protrudes outward on the Sylvari, while it is smooth and straight for Humans. Also, the tassels below the belt hang straight and look normal on Human, but on Sylvari they are bulging unnaturally.
Also note in the other two images that Sylvari male shoulders are disproportionate for many armor sets. Arah light and Phalanx heavy (which I would have purchased if not for this issue) are the examples I’m showing but almost all shoulders look comically large on male Sylvari.
This kind of stuff has a huge effect on my motivation to progress my character.
For me, this is really not a nitpick, it affects the way and amount I play the game and enjoy it. I would spend hours doing dungeon runs to collect the ~1.2k tokens for dungeon armor sets if not for this type of thing. I’d like a full CM heavy, a full SE heavy, a full HotW heavy, but just previewing these sets on Sylvari male, the shoulders are so ill-fitting it’s not worth it. Unfortunately, so many armor sets just look glitchy, rushed or unnatural on Sylvari males, and it really dampens any desire I have to work toward progressing my character’s appearance.
I have read many, many similar posts from people who play other races, especially charr. If it helps, I will take the time to compile a list of posts like this.
I have also read posts from Izzy about how much time it takes to create armor sets for every race/sex combination. I love the armor in this game, I think it’s really well done, and I can appreciate that each set takes a significant amount of time to develop, but it just seems like for Humans you guys go all the way with giving enough TLC to get it looking great, while for the other races, you don’t put the time in and it shows.
I guess I and many others would just like an answer on these two questions.
Should we just reroll to Human if we want armor that fits correctly, or in the future can we expect to see more love given to properly fitting armor for the other races?
In regard to existing armor sets, is there any chance that the issues like those I’ve pointed out on the Arah heavy set will ever be fixed?
Thanks for your time!
EDIT: Added two more in-game shots of the Arah heavy skirt on Sylvari male, I noticed the other one doesn’t quite capture how annoying and eye-drawing the weird spot is. The bottom pic shows how unfortunate this is, especially from the back where the camera spends the majority of time. Can’t….look…away………
I’m sure you can see how working toward an end game armor skin set like Arah kinda loses its draw for some races =P

Waiting for Clumsy and pals to tell you thief is fine if not OP in dungeons, and that you should never ever be getting hit even when multi tasking and that you need to L2P.
I get that you don’t agree with Clumsy et al, but honestly I have no problem with being told to L2P as long as that is accompanied by some suggestions. Or if the answer is simply ‘never miss a dodge’ then that’s fine, I’ll just never be that kind of perfect player.
Thank you all who commented.

I main a warrior, but I have been trying to put more play time on my thief because I really enjoy it. The problem is that I am absolutely awful in dungeons. I get downed constantly. I understand it may take some practice, but I’m just so bad and I honestly don’t understand how people play thief in dungeons and contribute nice DPS while staying alive, without just camping shortbow.
I tried zerk gear and build and I just can’t stay alive. I tried zerk gear and a survival build, using stealth to clear conditions and such, and I can stay alive pretty well but my damage is meh. For those of you who run thief zerker and do it well, how do you do it? Are there indispensable utilities or traits you can recommend that keep you up while dealing out nice damage, or is it just about having so much practice that you never miss a dodge/evade?
I know many fights pretty well from having done them on my warrior, but warrior is just so much easier. You just stand there with healing signet and take attacks right in the face and you’re fine. Thief is like a 0.05 sec mis-timing and you’re downed again. Any advice?

If you’re looking for a challenge in PvE, mesmer is not it. That’s just my opinion of course, but my reason is that you always have your illusions to distract mob aggro and dps for you. When I play PvE on my mesmer, I feel like I’m just standing there soaking up the victory. PvE on my thief, though, I’ve had to work harder in some of those fights than I have on any other class.

What does your toon look like as the opposite sex?
Since so many of us put a a ridiculous amount of effort into getting just the right character appearance and armor combination, I though it would be interesting to compare how our toons look as intended vs. how they look if you change the sex but nothing else. No shifting hair style, skin tone, armor dye color…none of that! If you have a make-over kit, just open it up and take some screens. Then come share and tell us what you think.
For myself, I spent a bunch of time coming up with the exact look I wanted for my female ele’s zerker/assassin gear mix, and I can’t help but laugh at how terrible I would look with the same gear/appearance as a male toon.
Show me yours!

I’m not sure about ‘best looking,’ but here’s my male sylvari warrior. I had the same armor-related concerns you mentioned. It’s true there are some sets that just look silly because of huge shoulders and puffy skirts, but there’s plenty of really awesome sets available for them.

… I literally ragequit from the Not So Secret jumping puzzle and have “retired” from attempting it any further as well as any other jumping puzzle, thus ruining another aspect of the game.
Forgive me if I’m misinterpreting, but it sounds like ‘Not So Secret’ was too hard and frustrating for you to complete (I don’t blame you), so you made a choice to stop doing jumping puzzles altogether and now you blame ANet for ‘ruining another aspect of the game.’
If this is the gist of it, it seems like you’re just ruining an aspect of the game for yourself. Can’t do ‘Not So Secret?’ Who care? Shrug it off and enjoy the rest of the jumping puzzles.

The only thing I can complain about is ruining my own chances at making some nice bank. I’ve been gathering my own Ori for weeks, stocking up thousands to sell when the time was right, but I held onto it when the prices spiked to 9s at the armor announcement only to see it plummet on patch day. Anticipated about 650g profit, gonna be more like 250. QQ.

The snowflakes don’t seem to crumble consistently, I assume that this is due to some kind of delay between when they respawn and when they are again sensitive to touch to the point of triggering the crumble timer. That said, I think that the crumble is not a big motivator for the player to keep their tooshie moving anyway, the chill debuff ticking away seems to be far more restrictive than the crumble timer. Several of my first attempts were met with easily avoiding the crumble but dying of the debuff just before getting to the checkpoint.
It’s a lot of fun. The only thing that really got me cursing was that I didn’t realize the rounds had a 30 minute timer at first, and in one of my earlier attempts, after having gotten close to the end for the first time, the round ended and took me back to the beginning when I was just a few seconds away from the end, QQ.

I’ll chime in that I love these new faces. Honestly, I think some of the faces for the other races are meh, but these really add more of what people were asking for, IMO, which was more and different options. The pinecone faces and the noseless faces really bring that in spades.
Some people have said that the new female faces are too plain looking, and there should be more unique-looking styles available, but if you look at the most used faces from https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/races/sylvari/POLL-Which-Sylvari-face-s-do-you-use/first it’s pretty clear that a lot of people go for the more basic ones, rather than the ones covered in spines or bark or what have you. It seems to me that Kristen et al (if there are any ‘al’) did well with the female faces.
I also like the male faces, and I’m thinking about going ‘voldemort’ on my warrior =)
Lastly, I’ll just say that even though I wouldn’t choose one of the pinecone faces for myself, it would almost be worth burning a makeover kit just to see those faces on my toon in the personal story cutscenes. I think it will be unreal to see them talk, seeing as how at first glance it seems like the only sounds that should be coming out of them are odd chirping or clicking noises.

Eh, I’m inclined to agree with the OP. Not because ele is bad, but because I’m sick of my most viable dps coming from might stack > summon hammer > auto attack 24x > repeat.
At least my warrior can contribute to dps with whatever weapon I’m in the mood to use.

I think they just decided that opinions on armour are subjective and that all the negative feedback on the new skins was just one opinion, other players would like them.
Yeah, I think this hits the nail on the head. If you really look at the armors, they do look to be carefully made. The meshes are well done, nice detail work is present, the textures are similarly detailed… tastes aside, they are quality sets. There’s no reason why a QA team should be blamed for dropping the ball here, IMO. They’re just ugly. Really ugly.

An epic event that will rock Tyria to its very core awaits you in 2014.
I want to get excited about this so badly, but a few months back (around Dragon Bash time, I think) a dev said something to the effect of “We know living story got off to a slow start, but some big and exciting developments in the story are coming!” Of course, the big and exciting developments were that Scarlet was behind these wacky alliances.
When we as players read something like the above quote, I think many of us think along the lines of elder dragons, am I wrong?

Stop using cultural armor, we are brand new race, how can we claim trust from other species when we look like bushes and trees?
Men will never trust someone who didn’t look like them. We are very young and Pale Tree will never let us forget about our roots, so cut yourself down from forest and enter the City in the way of style.
Suit Up.

Cultural armor is really really ugly, deal with it.
This is a strangely vitriolic exchange considering the silly tone of the original post. Ease up a bit!
Also, blacktemplar, how can you say sylvari cultural armor is ugly? IMHO it’s the best cultural lineup in the game. I’ve rerolled classes I already have just to be able to wear it. Holy smokes, it’s fantastic. Consider my mind boggled, sir.
That said, my sylvari ele is currently wearing non-cultural armor and he looks super duper.

just wait for later today to craft Ascended Armors. They are so much cheaper compare to Infusions. Full set of ascended armors can get u +30 AR easily
Is there any evidence that there will be Infus slots on ascended armor?
The evidence is that it is Ascended tier. All Ascended tier items have infusion slots, including Legendaries after having been upgraded to Ascended.

From the wiki:
“Everytime you kill a monster you roll on a number of tables, inside these tables are different rarity categories. Magic find increases the chances you will get higher categories. For example if there is a 1 in 10 category, and you have 200% magic find you will have 3/10 chances to get that category. This improves not just the rarity of the items you get but can also improve your chances at getting trophies and rare crafting materials like lodestones.”

Love killing warriors with legendarys while roaming solo with my ranger #BestFeelingEver
Isn’t it strange that legendaries give the initial impression that the wielder is an experienced/skilled player when in fact they pretty much mean nothing at all?
Even if you’re consciously aware that legendaries don’t really have any prestige attached to them, the initial impulse when you see someone using one is kinda like “Ah, this guy thinks he’s hot kitten, I’ll show him what’s what!”

So what if it’s an escape to then come back (seconds) later for another back-stab. Pretty much the standard tactic of a thief. How do you as a skilled player know where is escapes to? And then how are you gonna kill him and so preventing him coming back for another back-stab?
Full GC thieves often have few condition removal skills at their disposal. Cast a couple of junk conditions on the thief. He will clear them if he can. Once he does, immobilize/KD/stun/daze and burst him down. Done.
This forum is a wretched hive of scum and villainy. ~DevilLordLaser
You Always consider thieves to be scripted entity rather than human playing….
Stealht itself requires to totally outplay your opponent and even so you won t be able to kill your stealth user unless he is either extremely bad or you are extremely lucky.
I guess we won’t see eye to eye here. You’re essentially saying that stealth is so ridiculously imbalanced that they only way you survive an encounter with a skilled thief is to get lucky. Not the case at all in my experience. Remember what the OP pointed out, going full GC to the point that you’ll take an opponent down in seconds after a single backstab means you’ll have very low HP, armor, and almost no condition removal options. That means that there is a very clear path to victory against a GC thief that works and does not require you to just get lucky.
This forum is a wretched hive of scum and villainy. ~DevilLordLaser
Dealing with stealth is an oxymoron.
All you can do is “guess”……by definition
I disagree. Being good at pvp means making predictions about what your opponent is about to do and being ready to counter. If you are a skilled player, you’ll take note of the weapons your thief opponent is using and when they pop stealth, you should be able to predict whether they’re going in for a backstab or just trying to clear a condi/heal up/escape. Reacting appropriately is not guessing for everyone, maybe it is for you, though.

Doesn’t this make my point for me? The negative reactions to the story surrounding the new fractal have been focused on the fact that ANet once again fell back to ‘Scarlet did it.’

This has been true in my experience also. Everyone loves the GW lore, and I think that if they based LS updates on that stuff people would love it even if the playable content was less than amazing. The fact that they continue to put out this irrelevant Scarlet-driven content is baffling. To me.

Wow, these numbers are nutso. I stumbled into a system a few months ago that was close to sustaining itself cost-wise, and I was throwing tons of rares into the forge. Ended up getting 3 precursors in about a weeks time, and I thought ‘that solves it, just keep throwing them in, it may take a lot but eventually you’ll get it.’ That seems to be very much not the case. I guess I’ll wait for precursor crafting before I start working on another legendary.

However, this is a good add for the kind of players that just constantly want to grind mining ores, trees, etc.. (or grinding money) constantly to get the new “better” shiny. However, even for them..since the cosmetics are mostly meh..and the stats aren’t that much better, they aren’t really “shinies”…so unless people just ping the armor in maps constantly, no one will even know they have it!
Yeah, this is what I like about the armor. I don’t necessarily want to grind constantly, but I do like to have a goal in the background. I’ll be going for at least one armor set, but taking my time with it.

IMO, it’s a little unfair to say that ANet made ugly skins on purpose to direct people toward gemstore skins and/or transmutation crystal purchases. Honestly, I don’t love the looks the the skins, but they do look high quality, like a lot of attention to detail was given to the models and textures.
I’m personally undecided about crafting a set because a) I can’t decide which of my toons would get it because I don’t really have a clear ‘main’ and b) the skin by itself is doing pretty much nothing to help motivate me.

I’ve never understood why people run the queensdale train instead of the frostgorge train. Whenever I run the frostgorge train i get significantly better loot. Is there a real logical reason to do the queensdale over frostgorge? serious question.
The main reason I have chosen QD over FG in the past is that I’m on an alt and using the QD train to level at the same time as getting my daily done.
As far as level 80 toons who do QD, I can only assume it’s because the QD train is a lot easier to keep up with than the FG train is. Some people just want that chillax factor.
