Personally, I leveled MM, and I would suggest anyone do the same. The bottom line is, you will rarely die, things go down fast enough, and while you are not supreme at controlling conditions, you are not trait dependent or weapon dependent or gear dependent.
You can easily solo vets in a MM build, which would be much harder without. The entire concept of traits/runes goes out the window when you are leveling and changing gear daily. Go minions + whatever weapon you like and enjoy the leveling. I 100%ed the map this way.
EDIT: and take whatever traits you want. You don’t necessarily need MM traits either. They work fine without.
I’d have to agree, 100%. I actually leveled using Scepter / Dagger / Conditions…I took the Minions out for a spin in Orr when I was bored and wanted to punch myself in the face for taking the hard route to 80.
The Minions may be kitten but they’re a hell of alot easier than really ANY other way to level. Personally, I don’t think any class has an easier way to level 80 than a Necromancer who uses Minions.
Missed the one on SBI…
kitten!
Looking for another that’s open!
I got the same problem here since the update, maybe after the update, the servers must be overworked and are not able to support the number of players, who knows. I’m kinda frustated because I bought the game yesterday and was playing fine and having fun, and now this.
You’re in for quite a ride, trust me.
I’ve been a player since 2 days after launch, and I’ve yet to see this kind of “developing” since Warhammer Online.
Hello everyone!
If you are currently unable to patch the final file, try restarting the client and allowing it to run for at least 10 minutes. At this point, the backup system should kick in and push the final file through to your system; if you receive the “Connection failure…retrying” message, don’t worry: this is the backup measure, and should download the last file after a few minutes.
If you continue to have trouble downloading the file, please contact support at https://en.support.guildwars2.com/.
Thank you for your patience!
To hell with this, I’ve been dealing with this since noon today, and it’s now after 10:00 where I live. If you guys can’t get your LAUNCHER to work properly now, then it’s just not worth any more time or effort to try getting in only to stand around in LA, screaming for / running the same dungeons all day, or run a Dungeon that’ll disappear in 2 weeks…
I even re-installed the entire game, which took almost the entirety of the Kings – Blues game, all 270.000+ files, and it still locked up at 1. Yet again, some Pre-patch testing or ANY kind of QA would work wonders, I’m sure.
Back to Path of Exile.
(edited by Faction.4013)
I had the same type of issues, patch got to 1 file to go and stopped with connection error and the request to retry. I entered my credentials and logged in, the game completed the install and logged me in. Try it and see if it works for you too.
Nada.
Anet…guys…c’mon now.
Aside from the terrible issues with the game, now the LAUNCHER is choking…
C’mon guys…
Same here…4 1/2 hours, and nothing.

Gotta watch out for those “Economic Terrorists”, right Gayle?
If nothing else, Conditionmancer is a ton of fun. Nuking an entire zerg while they stack is juicy.
Whenever you see someone take a header from your DoTs, and people start to rez him, nail him with an Epidemic…it’s hilarious to watch people scatter because their own downed teammate “infected” them.
I leveled my Necromancer to 80 using Conditions, it was a mistake.
While still doable, it’s especially tough at early levels, where the gear just does NOT support the Condition Damage potential. Even moreso on structures, like Centuar Catapults, Dredge Machines, etc it’s a kitten nightmare to deal with those things.
Use Minions to level…trust me. Even if you HATE Minions and their stupid kittening AI, it’s so much more efficient.
Once you hit 80 and decide you want to run Conditions, use this link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bXhjICMN5No&list=FLCf-4-_em1SraMGo7pdvpEw&index=3
Nemesis taught me everything I know. And if you know what you’re doing, you’ll kick extraordinary amounts of kitten
They are only unblockable.
Leaving super organized zergs aside (because they are rare, and the only way to beat one is with another one), condition removal is much less prevalent than everyone likes to say. People in your average zerg might have a lot of AoE condition removal, but they rarely are using it in timed bursts to help allies; they save it until its their skin on the line. Which means Epidemic can still hit like a truck, and I have had it hit hard very often. Corrupt boon is even easier, because all you need to do is target a guardian, and you know for a fact that at some point he is going to throw out a ton of boons, and all you need to do is corrupt them to practically guarantee a down.
People overplay the condition removal. Reality is you can run condition necros just fine in WvW, just realize that you aren’t going to be hitting perfect Epidemics left and right (even hitting 5-10 bleeds every time epidemic is up is increasing your damage quite a bit).
Precisely!
As a DoT Necromancer, I LIVE for the Epidemic on zergs. And when I see an enemy Guardian hit “Save Yourselves!”, my pants get tight.
The problem with stacking 25 bleeds on someone is getting off the ridiculously long cast time of epidemic before they die! :p
Leveling is just about all they’re good for, actually…
When I see one in WvW, my pants get tight, as I’m an Epidemic / Condition Necromancer with 133% Bleed Duration and 1700+ Condition Damage.
Punching this thread in the stomach and shoving it back to the first page.

Hey now!
Few things to know about The U:
- We do not hold / or claim to be fictitious positions of authority like Sentinels, Defenders, Crusaders or Guardians.
- We’re not a metaphor of whatever ferocious animal the pre-teen Guild Leader thought was cool at some point in his life when he created the Guild, such as Wolves, Dragons, Ravens or Zephyrs.
- We have no mean sounding words that were influenced by titles of Chuck Norris movies, words like Vengeance, Retribution & Swagger.
- We don’t use a play on words in a vain attempt to be funny, like “It hurts when I PvP” or “Hitz from the Bong”. We leave the comedy to the Professionals, as Rodney Dangerfield doesn’t play GW2.
- And last but not least, we use no Latin words that sound cool, but have no idea what the hell they mean.
We’re simply Unrepentant.
You want in? Hit us up!
Trust me, your mother will be as proud of you as she is of me.

The only reason I didn’t roll a Charr was because they’re a pain in the kitten to draw.
As I LOVE to draw my MMO Characters.
And Charr Engineers aren’t breaking the mold, NORN ENGINEERS ARE!
A commercial was even made featuring our fabulous pantslessness! We wound up selling the rights to our commercial to Dockers for Beer & Sausage…and yours truly worked out that deal. They wanted to pay us with money….pffft.

Rascal Jacket & Gloves.
Karma Shoulders & Pants.
Basic Leather Mask & Boots.
Orangespring & Pottery. I’m a Browns fan…
Just because there are Necromancer builds that can beat MMs in a 1v1 doesn’t make MM a bad build, it just has a weakness to that build (namely using Flesh Golem to Epidemic off of).
Exactly. I run a Condition Necro with over 130% Bleeding Duration, and when I see a MM rolling down the hill with his little servants, my shorts get tight.

I’d assume whichever build allows for perma-swiftness…so it lasts long enough to float your kitten back to friendly skies.
Otherwise I don’t think there’s a build that exists like that.
I know we aren’t useless. The times I have gotten groups, the runs have gone smoothly and quickly. I just can’t seem to find many who will allow me to prove it except in pvp… I always get asked if I have a Guardian or ele… no? Boot.
Seriously, i think you get bad luck in finding people, because i’ve never been asked such things.
I have, and have been kicked at various phases of dungeon-forming, including just before a run would start. I remember being in a group, doing the ENTIRE CoF fight to open the dungeon again, and then kicked for some kitten who just stood at the blocked portal the whole time.
I SWEAR TO GOD I even had a conversation where a group-leader didn’t even know and INSISTED Engineers didn’t exist as a class. I found the group on the LFG site and when I said “Engineer” he thought I meant “ele”, when I said “No, Engineer!”, he went on to declare I’m not playing the same game, as Engineer isn’t a class…
So yeah, as Phelan said, it’s not the class itself, it’s the stigma & stereotype that follow the kittening class, and because of that, no matter how well you play, you’re doomed to mediocrity even before level 1.
My Norn Engineer, Sauerbach.
Boots & Mask are Random Leather.
Coat & Gloves are Rascal.
Pants & Shoulders are Karma.
Colors: Orangespring, Pottery, Blue Ice and Iron. (I’m a Browns fan…)

The Turrets are currently using the wrong TOOLTIPS only.
Except for the Flame Turret…it still has the 40s CD when picked up. So the Flame Turret is the only one that’s still bugged.
Gotta love dat QA!!
Hey, dude. If you’re in need of a Bacon-Powered good time, without the need for pants, give us a quick look-see.

If you want to hit a single target from far away with the Poison Volley…
Strafe while shooting…
Works for me. Every time.
Or just go the route of Warhamer Engineers, where your damage increases if you’re within a specific range of a Turret you placed.
I’ve been running turrets since last patch and my build doesn’t include anything but Metal Plating and Deployable Turrets, both of which are 10pt traits. /shrug
I think the update was very well done, almost perfect. I went from never playing with turrets and being overall not happy with my Engies performance, to having a great deal of fun and now playing mainly the Engie.
I’m in a tanky p/s build using 2 turrets and the elixir gun. Fun times! I can highly recommend trying it out.
Last I heard, Deployable Turrets is bugged AGAIN! Deployable Turrets throws out the old, pre-patch turrets…
At least, that’s what I heard…never actually tested it.
I actually use a Rocket / Thumper & Flame Turret, and Bombs. My Bombs are juiced to hit VERY hard, so the fact that mobs go for my Turrets most of the time actually makes my Bombs alot easier to place.
30 / 0 / 30 / 0 / 10
I run the Metal Plating trait too. But I use SD, as it’s the only decent 10pt trait I can get in Tools. I’d use Deployable Turrets if it wasn’t bugged.

engi is for fun, don’t worry about things like viability.
Exactly.
Engineers are alot like the “Entertainers” in SWG, other, more completed classes enjoy watching the cool-looking things they can do when NOT killing or running dungeons with ease.
You’d think their QA department would’ve caught that before going live…
OWAIT!!
Bad Link.

I can’t imagine that it only ever worked on 4 targets…
Yeah…it’s only ever been 4 targets plus the “source” of the Epidemic.
Out of curiosity, how long have you been playing a Necromancer?
Yes and no, they limited aoe to 5 targets quite a long time ago, though that may have just been a tooltip fix.
Yeah, I cried a little inside when that fix went through…
Also, the LoS thing I can totally deal with. Hell, half the time the kitten thing fires where I have the mouse looking, not at the target. Especially if I’m running away or rolling. At least this will keep me from wasting it on a tree or a rock.
“Hah! Wouldn’t it be nice if I actually did something?!” – Regeneration Icon.
I lol’d!
You sir, are a funny one.
I can’t imagine that it only ever worked on 4 targets…
Yeah…it’s only ever been 4 targets plus the “source” of the Epidemic.

man, ng’s are so much more fun to play… but however.
Uh….what the hell is ng? I’ve never heard that before…or am I missing something?
go with Vigil. they rock. just my opinion.
I think you can transmute order armor and weapons between characters… but you need a character in that order, fine transmutation stones, and an alike piece of course. I’m not entirely clear if this is possible.
If you want the Vigil armor, join the vigil. Easiest way.
Gah. kitten
Welp, looks like I’ll be a Vigil Member then. Thanks very much, buddy!
Thanks to Recycle for the video as well.
Hey now!
I’m currently in the final stages of leveling my Thief, and I have most of the look going, but I’m finding it a bit hard to find a set of Shoulders that look like the Vigil Medium Shoulderpads, as I’m sure they’re out there as I see people running around with Vigil Shoulders & Whisper Hoods once in awhile…
I slacked off on my story, so I’m at the doorstep of choosing which side to align with, I really WANT to run with the Whispers, but if there’s no other way to get the Vigils, then I guess I have no choice.
So my question is: Are there any Vigil Shoulderpad skins out there? Or am I pretty much kittened, and have to go the Vigil route?
Haven’t seen this armor combo yet:
What armor combo is that?
Looks awesome.Thanks!
I believe the skin names are:Duelist mask
Noble shoulder pads
Rawhide gloves
Ascalonian Leather chest
Rugged leggings and Boots (from 42k karma vendor)My current one now has Conquest boots instead of the Rugged ones…
Exactly which Karma Vendor did you get those boots from?
I thought the Medium Karma Boots for 42.000 have the metal plate on them, like the ones on the Engineer creation screen.
EDIT: Nevermind, I think those are the conquest boots…I got your pics and your messages mixed up…sorry!

Well I joined the Vigil because I do not fear my enemy to hide in th…
…and I just killed you from behind!
Back to the Shadows!
Yeah, I know how much people just hate permanent regen
Hate to point out the obvious, but the only way, and I mean only way a necro is giving a party permanent regen is if the party all stacked up in a 600 meter radius (extremely stupid and impractical for… everything) and you’re completely sacrificing all of your damage by using staff. Extremely inefficient way to play the game. As for everything else, you’d be serving your group better by not going out of your way to achieve these things. If you need to face tank anything your group composition sucks. Surprisingly, most people in this game still don’t understand how combo fields/finishers work. Even if they did, the cool downs for our dark fields are too long for any of it to make a difference. Especially considering that all auto attack projectiles only combo finish 20% of the time despite what the little heart thing popping up says. Dark fields don’t do anything special for melee types.
Besides, warriors do it better with banners. Bigger radius and it gives additional stats (soon to be buffed to ridiculous levels) on top of the regeneration. Or you could just bring a guardian instead since everything they do is way better utility wise.
I know you’re trying to see necromancers in a positive light, but no else is going to when everything this class does is out done by someone else, and everyone knows it.
Yeah, but you’re kinda seeing the issue with the game mechanics & class balance within PvE right there…
Warriors & Guardians do EVERYTHING better…which is the problem:
Ranged? Warrior with a Rifle…
Utility? Banners or Guardian anything…
Heavy DPS? GS Warrior…
Healing? Altrustic Healing Guardian…
Heavy Defense? Mace & Shield Guardian…
Condition Removal? Purity + Shout Guardian…
The only thing those classes can’t do VERY well is condition damage…but at this time, conditions suck for most classes anyway (structure damage, etc).
From a PvE perspective, you don’t need any other classes besides those 2. Because whatever an Engineer, or a Ranger, or a Thief can do, a Warrior or a Guardian can do it just as good if not better.
The only possible exception would be a Mesmer, with Portal, Mass Invis, Time Warp, etc.
(edited by Faction.4013)
If you want to do dungeons, and have a mez and ele… use ’em.
Yes, necros are much better now, but they aren’t that much better, and personally, unless the dungeon is face-rolling easy, one of the last classes I’d want in my group is a necro.
Compared to the other classes, necros just don’t have much in the way of group support.
Wells.

Here’s my Witch Doctor
Anyone know what pieces this guy uses to obtain this look? I’ve looked everywhere and I can’t find anything similar.
Probably blind…
Tactical armour. Bought from Karma vendors in Straits of Devastation.
Or is it Fireheart Rise?
Dulfy.net says the “Tactical” set can be bought in Fireheart Rise. Either way, I got the lead now,
THANKS!!! <3
Here’s my Witch Doctor
Anyone know what pieces this guy uses to obtain this look? I’ve looked everywhere and I can’t find anything similar.
Probably blind…
Welp, that’s probably based on just being in the low-level zones.
I noticed that too, especially because I’m currently rerolling my Main (From an Engineer) to a Necromancer, and all I’m seeing during champ fights in Queensdale are those floating hands from the staff…
But once you get to higher level zones, they’ll thin out. Same with Engineers, they’re everywhere in Queensdale…see how many there are by the time you get to Sparkfly Fen.
I’m sure you’ll be a very lonely Necro, and be neck-deep in Warriors & Guardians.
They’re kinda meh until you hit 20 – 25.
Then you become a Wrecking Ball. Because the stats on Gear start to build up and you’ll have some decent Traits under your belt.
Again, Epidemic is where it’s at.
Don’t know why there’s so much hate in this thread. Colin has been exceptional in regards to communication. Really appreciated!
Tell that to the people banned because of the “Awesome Communication” with the Snowflake “exploit”.
You can still do the transmute thingy. I just did it right now.
I’d be careful with that…if anyone consideres that an “exploit”, they can ban you.
Just like the Snowflake thing….
“How do you keep enjoying Engineer?”
Easy, I rolled a Warrior. I’m loving my Engineer so much more now that I play my Warrior full-time.
Looks like they handle this the same way they moderate the forums. Heavy-handed and unless the situation turns out to be praising the game they just delete it.
They ban people loyal to the game even though an exploit is technically their own fault (yes some ppl exploit but some ppl could actually think its game mechanics its only an exploit when they officially acknowledge it and the pattern is ANet doesnt seem to acknowledge anything that makes them look bad) but meanwhile my inbox is full of gold spam messages that they cant seem to stop. Make a post thats not gushing praise on the game and you get an infraction.
And if you are going to infract this post please give me my money back too.
Precisely. It’s that way too on other sites as well.
http://massively.joystiq.com/2013/01/03/arenanet-bans-exploiters-in-nefarious-snowflake-incident/
Scroll down to see Martin Kirstein arguing with somebody, somebody who politely makes valid points, all the while recieving negitive comments from others, and the AUTHOR OF THE ARTICLE LIKING EVERY COMMENT THAT IS POSITIVE towards GW2. Even those that criticize others! You wonder who the kitten is writing these pieces. The bias there is unfathomable.
Really is pathetic and sad. And you’re right, it’ll only be a matter of time before this thread is shut down as well.
