I’m sorry, but if you explicitly ask an authority figure whether something is legit, and they choose not to say anything, then later decide to punish you for doing it, they lose all credibility. Go ahead and cry “wah wah, immoral people got gold in a video game, THEY SHOULD LOSE EVERYTHING”, but this entire situation is ArenaNet’s fault.

They failed to test properly.
They failed to communicate to the players.
They failed to answer when players explicitly asked about it.
They failed to give solid information when asked in-game, instead choosing coy “lol” answers.

But sure, blame the people who asked, got no answer, and so thought it was ok. They’re the ones who failed to live up to their obligation, right? Yeah.

Enjoy the real world, kids.

You forgot to add that TWO bug-fix patches came out and left the “exploit” untouched. Even after it was questioned.

Think of it like this if you saw a device on the ground in real life and everytime you pushed the button money printed out after the lets 5000th or so push wouldnt you say i wonder if this could lead to something bad.

If the device has a disclaimer saying “Using this device will result in bad things”, then I would not press said button.

This exploit is definately a debatable issue, which is the problem. An exploit should not be a discussion of possibilities and what-ifs. That problem exists which is why refunds are given out and the topic is splitting the playerbase. I can see your point too, but if this was properly handled, there would be 0 discussion in the first place.

You did something that was CLEARLY DEFINED as an exploit, not using normal game mechanics, you’re banned. Period.

Here, we have talk of patches that did not resolve the issue, no responses to flags being raised, and such, which is causing this kittenstorm. So bans were handed out, and now those that were banned have legitimate and valid reasons to complain about poor customer service and awful PR and recieve full refunds.

Wheather the “exploiters” were right or wrong, knew or did not know. It’s not their responsibility to inform the playerbase of issues like this that could possibly result in disciplinary actions against them for using normal in-game mechanics. Regardless the results of said mechanics.

It’s not the responsibility of the players to decide or know what will be a bannable offense. Thats what community reps, customer service reps, and public forums are for.

Anet chose not to use those, and the players that were left in the dark with no responses or patch-fixes to the issues raised were essentially asked to “police themselves” and then banned for, as far as they knew, using normal game mechanics.

Evidence of this is obvious when you’re a banned player given a full refund. I cannot think of a single MMO I’ve played in my 9 years of playing MMOs that has given a full refund to players who violated the terms of use in such a “extreme” way that would describe them as “economic terrorists”.

That actually means you DO negotiate with exploiters if you’re willing to refund players banned for performing normal game mechanics that nobody had seen as an exploit. How are they or anyone to know it was an offense when there were no responses to any questions or issues raised at the time this problem was in full swing? Or when 2 patches that were meant to fix bugs with the holiday event IGNORED this “exploit” even after it was mentioned in several forum threads?

Nobody knew it was not working as intended, and with no answers from Anet, nobody had an idea. Hell, the PLAYERS brought it to their attention and raised the flags, THIER JOB WAS DONE FOR THEM! Perhaps if they would actually pre-test and run this content through QA once or twice, these nightmares wouldn’t happen. Perfect example is the “Disconnect in Fractals” issue…which has been going on for over 2 months now, and not even counting the Class issues.

You KNOW they’ve changed their pre-testing on these patches because of this disaster, if you count how much cash they’ve had to refund in both games AND gem purchases, you’re looking at about 150$ a person on average.

And “banned” is such a harsh word…it’s more like “bought out”.

Pretty much. I’m sure the Valentines day event will have recipes, which I, or anyone I know, will not be touching with a 30 foot pole simply because of this disaster.

You think thtas bad, I remember people selling names on servers back in WoWs early days. Even moreso once the paid name changes came into play.

They’d wait for a new server to open, jump on it, take all the “cool” names, then sell them for in-game items 6 months / 1 year later.

I bought mine for 1g75s on the TP when my Guardian was still in his 60s. It looks wimpy on his back, but once he brings it forward, it increases in size and looks intimidating as hell.

I noticed that some Norns have that issue, you put certain weapons on your back, they shrink a bit, then once you draw them forward, they “inflate”.

Then again, it could be the bodystyle I chose as well, as I chose the muscular one with the huge shoulders…

According to this, we finally get this issue fixed.

No hurry guys, by then, it’ll only be 2 1/2 months…feel free to take all the time you need with a Gamebreaking issue what was obviously never ran through QA or had any prior testing.

Thats alright though, Path of Exile will be out on the 24th of January, and Im finishing up Fallout 3 until then. So I’ll probably be seeing Tyria again around next summer, maybe. Especially considering I’ve had no interest in even downloading the holiday patch…

Im almost positive there’s not going to be a fix anytime before the first of the year, or even close.

And with the Holidays fast-approaching, there’s not going to be anyone steadily working on the issue until well-after the holidays. If we don’t get REALLY lucky and get a hot-fix before Christmas, I’ll wager mid-January (8th to 15th) easily.

Good thing I participated in the Steam Summer Sale, still need to finish Fallout 3. No better time than now.

With grenades I felt competitive in groups. On fights where the target wasn’t crazy mobile they were fantastic!

Now I think I’m just going to use a flamethrower with a sigil of earth. Hurts my finger less, and will probably deal equivalently lame damage to new grenades. Screw the effort, I’m going auto-attack!

What this also tells me is that the FT may not be getting touched anytime soon. Because if they’ll nerf Grenades to the level that FT is currently, why would they buff the FT for any reason?

I find it to be hysterical that they can turn the knobs on Grenades for consecutive weeks, but not touch the AWFUL Flamethrower kit a single time…

Good thing I saved all my CoF tokens, I can deck my Guardian out completely with 0 effort.

This is a pretty detrimental issue, as people are really doing nothing BUT Fractals now, so getting a group for anything else besides Fractals takes significantly longer than it used to. Because of that, people with this recurring problem are pretty much SoL in-terms of general gameplay options.

Especially me, where I’ve already crafted, explored, and whatnot.

I think my Smoke Bomb is bugged…it keeps summoning Brendan Fraser, an equally awful actor.

There is actually NOTHING better than Cleaning Formula 409 for Condition removal…

Reason: ANY Elixir now takes away conditions, not just Elixir C. H becomes BETTER than any Elixir you have, because it heals, gives a random buff, AND removes a Condition. If you have Fast-Acting Elixirs, it’s also on a 20s CD.

Nothing better than that combination, IMO.

If you’re a past-MMO player, the Guardian has similar playstyles to the Bear Shaman in AoC, the Warrior-Priest in WAR, or a common Paladin in most traditional games.

I mained a Bear Shaman in AoC, and loved it. Which is why I have a Hammer Guardian alt.

Bombs have a smoke/fire field, grenades have a frost/poison field. Since 30 in firepower synergizes very well (vulnerability stacks out the wazoo) with both, I run both. Also the toolkit switch spell effect is really neat.

Oh, I very well understand why you would run both bombs as grenades!
They synergise quite well indeed, and benefit from a few important overlapping traits (just like FT and EG do).

The only reason I never pick both, is because I made my mind up about my ‘base’ kits.
And that only leaves me room for one

Let’s take a silly example. I want to do some condition damage build on my Thief. I stuff him, spend my gold to buy/craft equipment. And all of a sudden : Huge nerf on condition damages in the patch note (like I said, silly example). My stuff is useless, I spend my money for nothing.

Getting information about that would not have impact economy, but at least I wouldn’t have spent that money for nothing.

What if no nerfs to CDamage comes, but a Buff instead? Now every Thief and their cats are CDamage thieves, and CDamage GEAR becomes extremely sought-after on the TP.

See what I did there?

Or, using your example, we know CDamage is getting a nerfbat, the TP will become overpriced on gear WITHOUT CDamage…while us who are attempting to sell CDamage gear get the shaft without any knowledge of patch notes before they were posted. Then ALL CDamage drops become useless making the entire economy sink with CDamage gear sales.

So, by your math, Casia, having Rampagers gear for Grenade use is probably the best OR CLOSE of both worlds, as it has Power, Prescision, and Condition Damage? I just ask in case someone switched from a Heavy Flamethrower build (like me) and still be perfectly viable with at most, switching out Runes and main-weapons. Because the new patch coming out is most likely bringing some RELEVANT changes, its mostly a “just in case” thing. Also, which Runes would you recommend for PvE Grenades? Centaur?

I only ask because, like I say, you know ALOT about the class, and while you’re here, I can get my questions out too.

Casia is pretty much the best person to get solid info from on the Engineer boards.

Here’s the Leather Mask, its simply called that. “Honed Leather Mask”, or “Strong Leather Mask”. You can get them on the Trading Post for a handful of Copper. I bought a level 43 one for like….86 copper to transmute when I was 80.

Im rocking this exact look at 80, had it transmuted with my Exotics. Just colored different since these pics were taken.

I chose my words perfectly, so settle down there, killer.

It’s called a VOLLEY, not every shot is meant to hit a single target.

However, a simple strafe will send ALL your shots to your desired target. Moving left-to-right or vice-versa during the cast time will get you almost 100% accuracy.

I do it constantly in Dungeons, Vet-Mobs, and World Bosses.

I’m kind of in the same boat as the OP, but a bit different, as Im rocking almost full Carrion gear, my crit rate is suffering, its like 31% ATM.

Im looking to build up my Crit a bit without taking much of a hit to my Condition Damage (Toughness Im not worried about, the +200 I get from Juggernaut is doing me well).

My question is, is there any KARMA gear out there that has Prec & Condition Damage? If so, which one(s) would you guys suggest? I have a ton of Karma, but not a ton of cash…
