I run a Viper geared Reaper with D/D & GS.
Curses: 3 -1- 2
Soul Reaping: 3 – 2 – 3 (Sometimes I’ll run Blood if I’m solo)
Reaper: 2 – 3 – 2
Heal: Consume – BiP, Epidemic, Suffer – Elite: Plaguelands.
I’m pretty much unkillable outside of Raids (which I don’t run on this character anyway). I would highly suggest running with a Dagger, mostly because of the leech you get, coupled with Shroud makes you pretty much invincible. I use a second dagger because of the transfer + blind, with Chilling Darkness, you inflict more bleeds. I switch to GS on bosses and such so I can spam Gravedigger and Shroud.
If you have access to Bloodstone Fen it is much simpler to get the amulet from there.
Absolutely, this is less effort — there are all sorts of ways to build up enough mats to buy an amulet from which you can choose any stats (it’s not the Mordrem Loop; it’s an arguably better alternative).
Aww. No kittening way!
Wish I knew that sooner. Spent all the time on LS2 and HoT story when I could’ve just ran LS3? Motherffffffffffff!!
Thanks guys. Now I know – and knowing is etc etc.
Hey, Mass! My general suggestion here is to get a Mesmer friend to come into the special forces training area with you and set up 3 illusions against a golem. That coupled with the Mesmer’s auto attacks will give you four other targets to proc your venoms, which will let you get representative numbers on the golem to see how your DPS rotation fares.
DUSK!
Yeah, that’s totally what I plan on doing here in the next few days. I’m on a bad schedule this week, but next week I’ll be all over it for seriously.
Miss y’all!
Wondering why it’s so hard to get a decent group for this lately…
The last achievement I need to get my Mordrem Loop, which’ll pretty much finish my Jewelry hunt for Condition Damage items. So if anyone plans on running this in the next few days, let me know! I’d love to join up!
Vuln stacks are important too. In boss fights there tends to be 25 vuln stacks on an enemy. Just keep an eye on that.
If you want an internal might source and want to share you really only have p/p unload as an option. You might want to try that just to see the difference in output when you have 25 might on. I am not suggesting you use p/p (although it can be effective and gets rid of multiple target issue ) , I am just suggesting you see how big an impact might makes.
Obviously potent poison makes a difference here .
Given many bosses and open world stuff do not use cleanses, durations can make a significant difference as well. Even dagger mastery can make an impact , espeically on a db build given the number of strikes. Try and maximize your whrils inside fields others set up as well. If you get a poison field out there via SB as example and then DB through ticks will be much higher.
The single largest problem in group fights is of course maximizing the number of people you load the venoms on. Once a group starts to scatter you can not catch as many in the circle.
I’ve been playing with it more, and it’s getting MUCH better. Had my highest Poison ticks today at 12,000, with 6,000 Bleeds in a Fractal. I also noticed the scattering issue too, I try and wait a sec or 3 for the group to bunch up on the boss, then start my rotation.
Speaking of rotations, I’m pretty much on-top of it now. Simple really. Just small trash mobs tank my DPS, I’m mostly stuck autoattacking / DBlossoming & Dodging, as I don’t want to spread the poisons out across several low-life mobs that take about 4 seconds to nuke.
If you’ve got the same utilities as in the video you’ve seen then it all come down to you’re party lacking the ability to maintain Fury, 25 Might and 25 vuln.
Agreed, however, I’m not really comfortable yet on walking into a full-blown raid / top shelf group setting. Mostly doing junior fractals to get the hang of it. So you’re not going to see might stacking and whatnot to the extreme you’d normally see in a higher tier of content.
It’s working nicely now. Just need to finish gearing out my missing ascended pieces, and finally get a group for Extreme Mode “Hearts & Minds” so I can get my Viper’s Mordrem Loop…impossible to get a group going for that.
Thanks very much, guys!
(edited by Faction.4013)
Lastly if you are fighting many enemies at once, each charge of each venom only hits one target so if the charges go to all different targets, the damage on any one of them will be much smaller.
Never looked at that aspect of it honestly…Now I can see why I’m dismantling bosses, but against crowds, I’m limited.
Thanks man. Appreciate it.
Hey dudes!
I’ve got a Thief with almost 80% ascended Vipers. Rest is Exotic Vipers. The jewelry & accessories I’m using are Sinisters and such from the LS2 achievements.
The build I’m using is:
Deadly Arts – 1-3-1
Trickery – 1-2-3
Daredevil – 3-3-1
When I’m running Fractals & zergs in Dragon’s Stand, I’m seeing Bleeds at roughly 2,000, and Poison at 2,500 to 4,000. Now I’m seeing videos of people doing over 20,000 poison ticks in Raids, now I get that the damage from the whole raid totals up, but I’m doing horrible damage it feels like when I’m just soloing or in Fractal groups. Highest I got was on Dulfy in the Urban BG fractal at 10,000 Poison ticks.
So what’s the proper rotation here? I’m using 2 daggers, Spider, Skale & Basilisk Venom & Impairing Daggers as utilities.
Normally I just blow all my CDs on the approach, hit dodge to get Impaling Lotus up, then hit Death Blossom until I’m out of Initiative. Then Steal, then repeat. Is it just a naturally low-output build if you’re not in an optimal group? Or am I just kittening up royally?

I would suggest looking through this particular page to get a feel for what’s popular & proven to work. You don’t have to run EXACTLY what’s there, but you’ll get a good idea of the foundation for some great builds. However, some of those, even though they’re considered “Meta” (as in “best”), have lower grades / votes than others, but in the end it’s all in what you can make effective – for example, I run the Auramancer Raid Healer, which is currently scored at 63 of 100…but I can give a kitten because I’ve carried entire groups.
Enjoy!
I find the same results, honestly.
Although I’m running with Viper’s gear (3 of 6 Ascended, Rampager’s weapons, Illusions – Dueling – Chronomancer, 100% Bleed Duration & 86% Confusion Duration), I find that against champs & Legendary enemies I can hit almost 9,000 bleed ticks with the 3 Pistoleers out. The ramp-up time is the only small problem, but I use the Healing Signet to refresh the CD’s in my CSplit / Well rotation, so I can get 3 duelists up in about 8 seconds.
I’ve ran Power EVERYTHING in the years I’ve played Mesmers, and I’ve always been underwhelmed with the damage (shocker…). I threw on some Viper’s just for lols and was amazed at the overall change, as I can have a full support role with wells and such, while still having my bleeds stack up into the 50s. Which means that in 1 CSplit, I can do over 36,000 damage in the 5 seconds, while buffing my group / myself, and that’s just off bleeds. That’s not counting Confusion / Torment, Blocks, slows & shatters, as my secondary offhand weapon is the Shield.
I’ve taken it into Fractals as high as 92 and have had zero problems. The only issues I’ve had was getting my duelists spawned due to event mechanics & allies going down, etc. But once the 3 duelists are up, you’re set for at-least 45 seconds. Then it’s Scepter 1 & 3, and Wells / CSplit / Time Warp.
If they nerf epidemic, you can say goodbye to necros from most raid runs. They’ve already kittened over ele. Expect the same with necro.
i’m def saying good bye if that’s the case. i wasted 70 gold vipers gear not to mention completing the kitten achievements for the ascended sinister trinkets. i didn’t expect them to wana nerf the only skill i’m playing for and what makes the necro a viable condi class compared to the other classes.
i did sense a satisfying experience when the adds melted because a boss had 100 bleed stacks… but who cares about adds, it’s the boss that’s supposed to be hard and it’s rare to find condition people since every1 is so in love with being zerk #don’tkillpvecondi
I’m thinking the exact same thing. I also spent upwards of 90g on Viper’s gear, Runes and everything else after sitting my Necro since before HoT. In classic GW2, I ran Rabid gear and was an UNKILLABLE juggernaut, once HoT came out Toughness became the Tank stat so I had no choice but to bail until I had the means & commitment to regearing my Necro.
I’ll be beyond kittened if they kitten around and nerf the profession again.
I’m currently playing a Warrior and wondering if I should switch to Guardian.
I looked at a level 80 build which was full of signet passives for utility abilities. While I enjoy the ease of a lot of passives, I am worried that having so many passive stat boosts will just simply be boring.
I know that Guardian is similar to a Paladin, but is it the kind of class where one can fight and heal himself? I am finding that I die very easily as a Warrior.
I tried rolling a Guardian not once, but twice. Both times I gave up out of sheer monotony & boredom. The Warriors have among the best Offensive Support outside of a Chronomancer – PS / Might, Banners, Empowered Allies, and you can do it all while still being an offensive powerhouse.
Trust me, if you have a well-geared PS Warrior / Berserker and know how to run him, you’ll ALWAYS have a place in a Raid, Fractal or Party. Period. I can promise you, after the Chronomancer and Druid are invited, you’ll be next. Guarantee the same cannot be said for a Guardian.
Sigh … guys the question wasn’t “what profession should I play in open world”, it was “what should I go for as Chronomancer” … the qq in this thread is real … T_T
btt:
If you are soloing I suggest to go for sword/shield + /sword mainly.
If required, a scepter or the staff are both viable options, altough the staff requires you to use Mantra of Pain. While at it: I suggest you go for Dom/Duel/Chrono, 222, 131, 333 and run with SoE, MoP, WoC, WoA or Feedback, Gravity. For longer fights or soloing hero points, it may be a good alternative to swap duelling for illusions 122 or 123 and use or use not a scepter, change MoP to WoR, WoP or Feedback if required.
For Meta events and large scale fights, I’d go for Sw/Sh + Staff, SoE, WoR, SoI, WoA, TW. Set up 3 staff phants for a truckload of dps, then stick to the sword and spam everything you have.
greez!
Exactly what I was looking for!
Thanks a ton to you, sir!
yes, but it’s better dps to cast burning speed in between. You can swap back to air as soon as the animation for it starts.
You’re right. I forgot about that part. Dang.
Good cover!
fresh air, with tempest, works like this:
-overload air.
-swap to another attunement and maybe use 1 or 2 useful skills
-immediately swap back to air
-dps a bit and overload air again
-repeatessentially reduces the cooldown of overload air from 20 seconds to 6-7
Actually, you throw up the Air Overload, and switch to another attunement, if you score a crit with your Thunderstorm, you can switch right back – because the Thunderstorm hits so fast, you can be in Fire or Water for less than it takes to hit the F keys, as ANY crit OUTSIDE Air will spring the FA reduction. There’s times in a Raid that I can cast my Air Overload every 4 seconds. Like, it never ends – there’s a constant Thunderstorm over VG or Gors or Keep Construct.

Howdy, y’all!
Recently picked up my Chronotank again after a LONG time away, and was always wondering what a good weapon & solid rotation is when you’re generally soloing or participating in meta-events (DS, VB Camps, etc)?
I have every available weapon in my inventory, but I think the typical S/Sh is a bit slow. Not trying to annihilate anything (because this isn’t the class for that), but I’d still like to feel as though I’m providing something useful in as many categories as possible – Damage, Support, and so on.
Thanks all!
You’re welcome.
(edited by Faction.4013)
i like the new auras they are well drawn, whats the problem?
The problem is the fact that you can’t see them when you’re in a raid / fractal / boss fight and a carpet-bombing is going on all around you. For example: To this day, I STILL have no idea what the Magnetic Aura looks like, and I use it a ton in Raids because I run the Earth Traitline for permanent Protection (so I’m constantly spamming Sand Squall and Earth Overload). But because I can’t tell who’s got an Aura on them, or if my Frost Auras fired when my Water traits kicked in, I have to rely on CDs to tell weather or not I’ve actually supported my team.
THAT’S the problem. They may be “well drawn”, but the current design serves no purpose where it matters – visibility.

If you’re still new to the game, Use Rabid Gear, and sub Reaper for Blood Magic.
In STRICTLY PvE, I have a fantastic time playing a DH. I use the Hammer Raid build, and I simply cannot die in Open World content.
In-terms of Groups & Raids: I have condition cleanses, a ton of heals, and even more blocks, blast finishers, symbols, several damage modifiers (Spear, Mobs on Fire, in Symbol), easy rotation, solid breakbar abilities, among the best group support, and pretty solid damage if you factor in Traps.
Plus, the Hammer Build is the best DPS build for a DH in longer fights, and I LOVE Hammers & Mauls in Fantasy settings.
Only thing I’m missing is move speed…
So yeah, I’m definitely having a good time playing a DH.
(edited by Faction.4013)
Hey now!
I’m definitely interested in joining up with an active guild. I’ve just come back after being away for about 3 months. I main a Hammer Guardian with Ascended Jewelry and MH weapon. I’ve been playing a Guardian since launch, and recently deleted / re-rolled my main because I was tired of looking at a Norn. I’m about 50HP shy of finishing my DH wheel, but should be done by the end of the week. My alt is a Condition Necro I’m still working on.
I have raiding experience going all the way back to Molten Core in WoW. I’ve ran the Raid here a few times but never gotten past the first boss. Only downside is that I’m not a huge talker in TS. I stutter sometimes and I’d rather not be a vocal burden to the group.
Lastly, I only join one guild at a time, so I’ll always have 100% rep.
I thank you for your time.

Thanks Panda!
Seeing as the Chronomancer is a bit of an unusual class for aesthetics, I was wondering what y’all did for your Chronomancer outfits.
I went with the Aetherblade set, due to the Gears & Sprockets that make it look like Clockwork. I’m having an issue finding a color combination I like with this particular set, though. I settled on Gold, Glory & Midnight Purple.

Big thanks, y’all!
Appreciate it!
After asking my guild 3 times in Guild Chat and not getting an answer (which I’ll be bailing on as soon as I find another one), and asking in Map chat 4 times, I feel it’s now necessary to ask this on the forums:
Fastest way to gain HoT Mastery Level XP is by participating in events throughout Maguuma?
What do ya’ll think a good build would be with D/D & GS?
Posting here to bookmark this.
Great information. Thanks all!!
This is fantastic!!
I would recommend a Sticky! Pretty much exactly what I’m looking for here.
Thanks, Syrval!
Maybe actually try it before coming in here with wrong information.
Little bit of unnecessary hostility, there?
Let’s also remember that a Mesmer is VERY Trait-Orientated. It don’t start becoming powerful until after your second trait line is unlocked.
With a Warrior, a Thief and even an Engineer, I could pretty much smash through anything with one good traitline while leveling. But Mesmer requires the synergy of at-least 2 to really shine.
Illusions is correct. Dueling would be useful in dungeons where hp pools are lower and all the bosses die quickly. In longer fights like high lvl fractals illusions is better.
I see. Well, I’ll write that down then.
Thanks for the advice!
Honestly, it’s not easy to ween myself off of DE when I’ve had it for so long…gonna be difficult to get used to!
The problem is that page has you taking Domination, ILLUSIONS and Chrono.
The link at the bottom of that page takes you to a video by Nike in which he chooses Domination, DUELING, and Chrono.
I’d suggest taking the advice in the video. The only change I made was taking DE. Even easier to generate the 3 clones required for CS.
Bumping this for my bookmark!
Thanks Fay!
I’m curious as to how much Condition Damage can you attain as a decent-geared Mesmer. At the same Gear-Level, my Necro has over 2000 CDamage while my Mesmer has just over 1600. Is it traits and such that just seem to benefit the Necro’s CDamage more?
i see…. thanks for the tip and advices! but PvE necros are still very viable right?
Absolutely.
I can see Condition Necros possibly having a raid spot just based on Epidemic alone.
I’ll throw you my build. I’ve used it through the entire existence of my Necromancer.
Rabid Gear with Krait Runes – Scepter / Dagger (Bursting & Earth Sigils) & Staff (Geomancy & Agony Sigils)
{Consume Conditions} {Epidemic | Blood is Power | Corrosive Poison Cloud} [Flesh Golem]
Pro-Tip: Using the Flesh Golem’s Charge activates the Krait Rune’s 6 tier bonus.
Curses – Bottom OR Middle / Top / Bottom
Spite – Bottom / Top / Middle
Blood Magic – Middle OR Bottom / Bottom / Bottom
For the Record, and like Novaan said: The Necro isn’t the best at offensively using conditions, they’re the best at manipulating and managing them. Epidemic is among the best utilities in the game for that exact reason.
If you want to straight-up crush with Conditions, I’d get yourself a Mesmer with the same gear & runes and a staff. Get 3 clones up (Mirror Images and dodge once) and just spam the Staff AA and you’ll make it to 45+ stacks of bleeds in less than 10 seconds. The only place they suck is with normal trash-mobs where getting the 3 clones rolling is more effort than it’s worth.
Yup condi reaper is wonderful and makes great use of carrion gear, chill, poison, bleeding and burning from dhuumfire. I use soul reaping, curses and reaper. Carrion gear. Scepter/dagger and staff or GS
Would you mind going into specifics about your builds? Exact Traits, Runes etc. I’m curious as to what the possible output is I can get with Rabid gear.
I’m curious to know what your rotation is to achieve 30+ stacks of Bleeding. .
30 bleeds isn’t all that difficult to reach. Even with a simple 3 staff clone + your AA rotation you’ll be hitting 30’s quite often:
Yessir! Ran a few FotM today AFTER I posted here. It’s pretty easy actually. Most I hit was 39. However, the more I play this build, the more angry I get at DD being bugged. I can only imagine how many stacks we can get then.
The “filler” attacks I use between Phantasm generation & such is the Scepter Laser, the Scepter Block (because firing it off early blinds, and blinds confuse). Once my Phantasms are up and running, the staff AA, as well as Chaos Storm & Armor are the common attacks.
On trash mobs it’s mostly the same, just using Clones rather than Phantasms, and Shattering as much as possible. THAT’S where DE and the Scepter AA clone come in handy. You craft more clones than you can shatter, so you always have an F-skill to blow.
EDIT: After watching that video, it’s much more clear and clean to see how it’s done. I’ve never known Staff to be more than a support to your other weapons…
(edited by Faction.4013)
Bumping this for posterity! And because I finally get to see Alpha’s build!
I’m curious to know what your rotation is to achieve 30+ stacks of Bleeding. Although I’m just now gearing up following your second-linked build (therefore I haven’t tested it properly), I’d just like to know what your basic rotations is between Phantasm creation.
I assume it’s Staff AA, 4 & 5, and such.
(edited by Faction.4013)
well I havent run a condi necro but I can tell you exactly how my Sinister mesmer works, ive been running it a lot especially in fractals.
my usual party in dungeons consist of a warrior, sometimes a ranger, sometimes an ele, sometimes a guardian.
My auto attack with sword will hit between 1-3k.
Blurred Frenzy will hit for 2.5-6k.
my iduelist will hit for 2-4k.now, most things die before I stack true condition damage on enemies in dungeons, so I get 900-1800 damage in bleeds and about 400-700 in confusion damage.
Now, against champs/fracal/dungeon bosses, with a good amount of might and some vuln stacks
My bleeding willreach between 3500-6000
Confusion 1800-4000Now, in a good party, these numbers are completely different. With might stacks, an ele with consistent fire fields, and vuln
I get 8000-13000 bleeds
4000-7000 in confusion
2000-11000 in burningwith fire fields, when I dont put up timewarp/nullfields/feedback for the duelist/warden to hit with confusion, the duelist will destroy with burning damage.
I still generate decent-good damage with my aa.
its unlikely, but very possible to rely on burning damage, but bleeding and confusion are easy.
in certain fights like the archdiviner I end up getting torment/bleeding damage as I rely on scepter/pistol.
cheers
I’m curious to know your build, Azure. I’m having a bit of an issue with my Condition Mesmer ATM.
Good builds here. Going to post to Bookmark.
Thanks all.
Forge?
We have confirmation of the professions elite specialization?
Got a link?
Datamined Pic.
If the phantasm coefficients stayed the same as pre-patch (all that I checked did, didn’t check Warlock/Berserker yet), then this sheet should still be valid:
Big help, Frifox. Thanks a ton!
I run FotM 50s and the occasional Arah when I’m not busy with small group roaming. Level with me for a bit.
Current Ele DPS is a staggering 23k DPS. That’s a good 50% more than almost every other class aside from Engineer. For a Mesmer running in an ideal group composition of 3 eles and a warrior, you have a COMPARATIVE advantage traiting into a build oriented around reflects, crowd control, and support. This is the build that I use: http://intothemists.com/guides/5916-gfc_fractal_cc_mesmer
The DPS delta between my support build (Dom/Duel/Insp) with PB procs and a pure DPS build (Dom/Duel/Illu) was around 2k DPS (~13% decrease) but the tradeoff gets you AoE heals, AoE cleanses, AoE distortion, reflects for days, and interrupts for days (good for defiance stripping).
P.S. Try PB on Baron von Scrufflebutt!
This is pretty much THE mentality I have right now. We’re never going to have the DPS of Elementalists, Warriors, Thieves, or even Rangers, so I just build for Support, Manipulation & Control (Dom/Duel/Insp). And I use Power Block too, simply because I can daze up to 5 people in one cast. “Into the Void” plus PB is pretty much lockdown on any group of mobs.
Running the DPS build (Dom/Duel/Illu) is fine in Open-World events, World Bosses and such, but in Dungeons & Fractals, when you have classes like the Warrior doing 32k HB, Thieves doing 13k Pistol Whips, and Elementalists doing everything else, it’s pointless to compete. Much rather just assist their DPS & keep them alive longer using Feedback/Reflects, Cleanses, Heals and Time Warp.
All you have to do is bring a GS to a dungeon.
Though, I don’t think there is anything to add here other than link the already linked metabattle page. The two builds on it are pretty much the go-to builds now. I don’t see any other alternatives that could compete for meta spots, in direct dps or reflects. One exception would be Power Block. The trait is actually pretty kitten good now, as long as you can coordinate defiance stack management. For times where there are no defiance to manage, the trait is pure gold – ie Bjarl.
LOVE PB! I use it constantly on Trash mobs simply because if they’re packed together, you can stun them all. Still trying to get used to interrupting though. Kinda hard when you’re in the middle of a melee, and with all the godkitten spell effects and bright lights, it’s hard to tell if they’re casting anything. THAT’S really the only downside to PB, attempting to score an interrupt on a cast in the middle of a epileptic fireworks show…
(edited by Faction.4013)
Not all that surprising, so am I!
it is hard not to make the conversion once you play a Mesmer, and you see that it does everything a thief does, and better.
Except gank people in 2 hits.
No this is a legit complaint. I can live with worst utility but atleast give us a reason to exist.
Seriously. Are you seriously serious?
So, Phalanx Strength, HEALING Banners / Banners & Shouts, Empowered Allies and an Auto-Cast Condition Cleanse (Shrug it off) is “worst utility”.
Naturally we’re not as good as the Guardian or Elementalist, but c’mon…we’re FAR from “worst”.
Yeah this is a troll thread.
Everybody knows that warrior’s DPS was buffed in the june 23rd patch to the brink of insanity… right?
Yes. I’m now doing almost 30k HB, and 7-12k Whirlwinds now. On top of maintaining at-least 12 stacks of might and 100% permanent fury. The Elite Spec is going to determine if the Warrior remains my main or if I switch to the Thief.
(edited by Faction.4013)
I just finished leveling my Mesmer about 2 days ago. While I’m enjoying the aesthetics and whatnot , I’m running into a few problems myself. Mostly the Range thing. Many BOSS fights are just NOT made for Melee with the twin Swords. I threw on a Staff, simply because I can take advantage of the conditions the rest of the party puts on with the iWarlock. Storm & Chaos Armor are bonuses.
I’d like to know what some of the pro’s are doing in-terms of rotations and such with the Swords. Trash mobs are a breeze. But I’ve ran into maybe 2 bosses where it’s viable to Melee without having to dodge-roll out every 4 seconds.
I CAN give you a suggestion on Runes, though OP. I run the exact same linked build, and I went with Eagle Runes. 7% more damage to enemies under 50%, and a ton of Precision & Ferocity.
(edited by Faction.4013)
Are you unable to get the HoM because it’s down/bugged? I played GW1 far from religiously, didn’t worry about any achievements and didn’t finish most of the story lines etc. Basically very casual and I was still able to get the full set when I linked it to GW2. If you just sorta played GW1 you should have enough points for the armor. Unless as said it’s down/bugged.
I forgot my login information, all the way down to the User Name (it was a @comcast.net user name, to give you an idea of how old it was). But no matter, if I ever decide to devote the time to getting it recovered, I’ll definitely check out the HoM. It’s just been almost 7 years since I played GW1.
Thanks, though.
