This along with many back pieces and weapons don’t give my Asura the same feeling as if it were on any other race. Either start making add-ons that look crappy on bigger races or make this stuff look better on the Asura

Yeah it would feel less zergy and more personal if they split the zerg up much more. The fact that there are so many overlapping events (I’ve had three all in the same area at once) and they are so short makes the zerg stay together and port around. By making the events longer and include more chains, it would require people to stay in smaller groups spread out and if an area needs more then people can help accordingly.

Also it would be nice to include a variety of events, not just escort and timed kill. GW2 is full of these differing mechanic events and many of them could’ve been incorporated. Following that there should be chained events, if one is failed or if one is succeeded, what would be the next best course of action.

Its the fact that the repeatable content is the only content to do in this patch. The tower of nightmares was a good example of where they tied progression in the LS with repeatable content. Yes you had the content that could be repeated but there was more to the story and patch. There was stuff to do outside the zone and there were instances of lore. I loved that patch

I don’t care that its repeatable, I’m annoyed that its there is one vague event to complete for the next two weeks

The problem at hand is that cloth is used in all the armor crafting professions, followed by ore which is used in all the weapon professions and armor smithing and then leather is used primarily in leatherworking. Arena clearly made the demand for cloth higher, which wouldn’t make sense from a game players perspective

This patch is another example of where ANET failed to not provide a game where all you do is farm.

The one major event that they added to the game can be completed in one hour. Within the event, there are smaller events that are all very much similar and are recycled over the course of an hour. Then in order to continue playing new content, you must repeat the major event which itself has the loop of smaller content within it. If you know anything about for loops, you will realize that you are doing the same smaller events over and over again. This defines farming. No progression is being made each time; we are not finding out anything new, no additional goals or accomplishments.

Its worse than other games this patch, at least when major, world changing events happen in other games there is progression over the course of a time period, i.e. Sunwell isle in WoW.

What is being completed in LA right now, defines farming. The only thing that happens if you don’t show up is that you don’t have stacks of valubles, it won’t matter to the rest of the world

Did the event twice and this is what I experienced.

1st time: Flamethrower equipped, followed the zerg and spammed 1 + AoE loot. As did everyone else. We rescued 475 citizens by the end and I had 149 bags.

2nd time: Ran a more serious build and with a small group of friends, saved 70 citizens . And we were able to save 700 citizens total. However, I only received 45 alliance bags.

I believe I contributed more in a small group saving people and fighting away from the zerg. But the rewards were no where nearly as worth it and it seems like most people will just sit with the zerg, because its easy beyond belief and you get so many bags. I’m kind of disappointed with how the entirety of the event works

Fantastic.5298

A friend of mine logged in for the first time in about half a year,

It is ridiculous to ask the devs to tell you what happens in half of year if you dont log in.
In real life, aka living world, If you leave your country for a while and you don’t even read the news how do you think the government will tell you what has happened while you were away? maybe three were strikes, maybe a new elections, maybe the government is totally changed… you just come and see what there is and hope others will tell you what happened but you will not be able to see all the news bulletins and other things live

So, if you want to know what happens in the game you should do a little effort and read about it not waiting for it to be handed to you on a plate
It is the living world concept and it will not go away, hopefully

The “real life” argument is getting old. This isn’t a life simulator. It’s a fantasy MMO. He doesn’t necessarily want to just read about what happened…he wants to play it. And if this were a true “living” world, then events wouldn’t happen every two hours. They’d be one and done. I’m with the OP, I just don’t care for the whole LW model. It sounds cool, and I know people who play this game exclusively love it, but it’s just not my cup of tea. I like to go back and play through old content at my leisure. That’s just not possible with this stuff.

Thank you, it seems like people take offense to the fact that I’m suggesting the content be available after the LS takes place. Reading about a game is not the same thing as experiencing it, is it too much to ask for to make the content repeatable.

A recommendation I have is to have a historian-NPC for each living story in our home instance(which right now is completely empty except for some ore) that you can go up to and talk to, who will ask you,
“Which of these stories would you like me to retell?”

And you, the player can say for instance,

“I would like to hear about the Tower of Nightmares again”

and they would put you in that instance and we would pretty much play through our own story. And this can be done for any of the LS patches, whether it be helping out the homeless people during flame and frost or participating in the Queens Jubilee instance when you must destroy the watchwork minions. Sure some of the instances would have to be tweaked but I think to reshow those cinematics and content would be great. I think it would greatly improve the replayability of the content and it would keep the rest of the world, up-to-date and living

8 hours every 2 weeks OR miss the main story

in Living World

Posted by: Fantastic.5298

Fantastic.5298

To start off, the 8 hours in the title isn’t 100% accurate because I’m sure you could fly through the content in less time if you put your heart to it. It’s there as an approximation of how much time avg players spend to complete all the LS. Others also might say that 8 hours isn’t very much, but that is beside the point of this post and many people may have 0 hours to play games for certain long periods of time. Should they not be allowed to experience what the rest of us experienced?

A friend of mine logged in for the first time in about half a year, looking to “catch up” on GuildWars 2 (i.e. run dungeons and play the LS content that he missed). I brought him to the marionette fight, we killed it and this was repeated, then we grabbed some of the power cores and he saw the secret lab. After this I told him that’s all there was to show in terms of living story. He was bummed, as he has no understanding of what any of the alliances are, what Scarlet has been doing and what we as players have been doing to stay busy.

Sure, he can read about it online or I can explain it to him but this no where as engaging as a game should be.

I played WoW a lot in highschool, back when I had time and my parents money. While in college, I would come back for a few months toward the end of each expansion and run ALL the content leading up to the final boss kill and complete most the lore. There was plenty for me to do, and it felt like a story to me. Its not like each time WoW offered a new expansion or raid patch they removed the last one, because that last patch was essential for telling the story as a whole. I know “Anet wants to make a changing world” well make it a world that can be revisited or progressed through properly.

In a hypothetical situation, pretending that all the Scarlet LS is an expansion, its as if you get this expansion but you can only kill the most recent boss or see the most recent content. Now, I’m not sure what LS they will keep in these next four patches, but they already removed so much of the stuff that they built! I understand that there are the two partial fractal bosses and the Aetherpath, but there is no lore to say what the kitten it is there for or what order things happened in. Its not like ANet doesn’t have the staff to give us repeatable content, just make an instance that people can progress through if they want to…so much of the LS is instanced I don’t see why they cant do it. The way that GW2 designed the gear and level scaling is such that you can stop playing for a while and your progress in terms of the game won’t be hindered, but the way they designed the LS is that if you aren’t here for each patch, you are missing out on nearly everything that patch offered which imo is worse than having to play gear catch up. I’m still going to play GW2 but I think that the way LS is offered right now is truly hurting the game. LS could be viewed as an “expansion” if it stayed around

TL;DR People should be able to re-experience or progress through the main plot of LS

Pls no more stat-boosts. Downscaling already doesn’t work properly, don’t make it even more boring…

Friend joined the game 1 month ago. I mentioned how I use dungeon tokens to “throw greatswords away” in the mystic forge. He decided he wanted Kudzu (he plays ranger), started doing TA for the gift…threw 4 longbows into the forge bought with TA tokens after he bought his gift…got leaf of kudzu on first try.

I almost quit the game entirely….not a fan of RNG or the current precursor / legendary system. I think precursors / Legendaries should be earned and not RNG or bought off TP.

This best describes why GW2 is leagues behind most other modern MMOs in item development. While the rest of the world removes RNG in favor of time invested = reward, GW2 goes full tilt into ripping their loyal customers off.

Reading this makes me depressed and reminds me of the 200g I dropped in it before just buying the precursor ( I got mine for 300g right off the TP about a year ago). When I describe how it works to my friends it turns them off from the game as well

Anet should just remove the slayer sigils and incorporate their effects into the slayer achievements.

You killed 1000 Centaurs? You’ll do 2% more Damage against Centaurs..
You killed 5000 Centaurs? Youll do 10% more Damage against Centaurs

and so on until you reach a certain Damage Booster Cap.

Those Slayer Achievements should just reflect the expereince of your character in slaying a certain enemy type. So more you killl a certain enemy type, so more expereinced does your character become in killing them and this should get reflected by a small Damage Boost (or/ or maybe other little positive nice effects)

And this would allow Anet to reduce a bit the amount of Sigils, because lets face it, these slyer sigils are totally obsolete, nobody uses them, because there exist just alot better more useful sigils, than those slayer sigils that give you only a damage boost against 1 single specific enemy type and then even not a real siginificant one that makes up for a real big difference. 10% is just too less to make up for a real siginificant difference. 25% makes up for a real difference.

Titles should also reflect back some kind of character progression.

I really like the idea! keep bumping the thread so it stands out. The only time I’ve ever used a +% dmg to a mob was when I would farm blk on humans, Other than that, its pretty much worthless and not worth the investment of another weapon. I doubt many people, if any, buy those sigils to actually use and not forge.

There are some mobs that I kill a LOT and I would really like to keep track of which ones I’ve killed the most and compare them to my friends.

I would like to see the Slayer achievements & the Slayer in sPvP achievement go on infinitely. Very similar to the Agent of Entropy, but different in that each tier becomes, polynomially or exponentially longer, similar to all the kitten WvW achievements.

I think its dependent on the time of day, but I agree with you. Many people (including my friends and I) are just skipping the Wurm fight and preparing for the Marionette fight. I believe most people will do this because

1) The marionette fight has been completed by many servers and has a higher chance of being completed
2) The marionette fight is only here for 2-weeks (correct me if I’m wrong) and most people want to get the achievement points while successful kills are happening

The Wurm fight is also made to be harder, so I think it will require guilds to be present and coordinated. Jade Quarry has been making progress with many of the fights and its getting closer.

Try to go to the Wurm fight when u know guilds are going to be making attempts and during primetime

The majority of posts on forums are usually negative or complaints and I wanted to post one appreciating something. There some negative things that I found with the patch and I have commented in other posts appropriately. That being said, I killed Mariontte with my Jade Quarry friends this afternoon and I want to say it really felt good.

Last night, when we first started (Attempted 2 times with WAY too much waiting in between) it was very difficult and hard to coordinate. We never got her down and failed. When my friends an I logged in today we changed our builds around and saw how we could maximize our contribution to the fight and then tried to get other people to also manipulate their builds and organize more. We were able to kill her! and it felt really good. It reminded me of the first time I used to kill raid bosses and of the earlier kills of Tequatl. From the sounds of TS and mapchat, everyone else was really happy too.

I think that it felt good because it required cooperation and when we did find the right approach to killing her and it worked, it was rewarding. I looted the chest and didn’t even pay attention to the loot; I could care less what dropped. I was more appreciative of the experience of coming together as a server and killing her.

The way that the fight takes place in smaller groups and how each lane has a unique setup (Try a different lane and you’ll know what I’m talking about). It allowed people to organize into 5 distinct groups where people have different tasks and can communicate better amongst themselves. Compared to the Tequatl fight, where there are smaller groups(North cannon, East Cannon, shipwreck, waypoint), the majority of people are in the DPS group just going through rotations while following the pin strafe. I felt like my contribution was much more recognizable with this fight than with the Tequatl fight when I’m not on cannon or guarding a spawn.

I think this would’ve been a better time to introduce the new Asura and other characters in celebratory cinematic because that’s where we first see her and it would’ve added to the dramatic effect of the fight.

Granted there are many things that could be fixed in this patch, I am happy with this fight. GW2 is a bit shy of where I imagined living story and events to be, but I see improvements being made. Thank you very much ANET & Please if you have something constructive to say, whether you agree/disagree or you find something else you enjoyed please share.

TL;DR
Positives of Marionette Fight:
1) Nostalgic and emotionally rewarding kill
2) Smaller group combat was better experience than zerg
3)Cooperation and improvements can be seen amongst players

Guild Wars 2 Patch release: Gives 2 bosses that are bugged and requires you to AFK hours in advance with nothing to do.

Other MMO Patch release: Gives new boss/raid/dungeon and additional content to complete in small groups.

I’m sorry but the fact that there are no small tasks that solo players can do without waiting + wasting time this patch is a disappointment. I tried to get guild and server pushes and its way too difficult to get full guilds into the right server/overflow. This shows that Arenanet learned little from Tequatl and how annoying organizing that was on the first few days. For other people who don’t want to waste 2+hours of legitimate sitting and doing nothing and prefer to just play new content that is for small groups…they can’t with this patch.

They could have made events occur in other zones or at least Lornar’s pass so that the people there or outside could play new content without sitting around.

IMO if you don’t have a lot of time or patience, I would wait a few days or until really late at night to look at the new patch content. Otherwise, you will be really disappointed with how little there is to do

Ascended crafting was a bad idea

in Crafting

Posted by: Fantastic.5298

Fantastic.5298

These are my reasons for why I believe Ascended crafting was a bad move on Anet’s behalf.

1)Required the need for each crafting profession
Now everyone who wants 3 geared, different-armor/weapon types must level the crafting professions to 500. First off, many people don’t feel the need to level more than 1 or 2 professions and now they need to go out of their way to do so. Crafting isn’t enjoyable and it doesn’t necessarily show that you are ready for the content that the gear is being crafted for. It also led to my second point

2)Hurt the trading post
I used to make money each day on the trading post by crafting farmed materials, many others did as well. There was a consistent need for what I was crafting. Now, not only is the trading post completely saturated with exotics, but not as many people will need to buy exotics because they will have to level up crafting anyways. There isn’t much to craft and sell on the trading post for profit, and more people are going to these few routes to make money

3)Same process as exotic armor
There is no progression for Ascended gear, there should be. It gives people the ability to learn as they are earning their gear such that they will be prepared for the content that they are getting the armor for. The only progression is marked by the crafting level and the gold acquired whether it be from in-game or gem purchases. Yes, there are the account bound ascended materials but I never really found myself challenged to get them, no more than getting the materials for exotics.

What I think could’ve been done
Implement it into the “end game” content with an aspect of it, created from crafting; for instance using the prior exotics or the padding(can be traded/sold). But the bulk of it would come from areas such as >lvl 20 fractals(for dungeon runners), tequatal fight(for the zergers), or WvW keep lords (for wvw). Areas of the game where the experience would benefit from this ascended armor. And these drops should be limited, maybe enough to make a piece of gear each 2-3 days. Fairly similar to crafting, just removing the crafting aspect, make it drop from more select content and let it be thrown into the forge or something.
