This is an interesting concept. As others have mentioned, I’d want to make sure it wasn’t being exploited. (No one wants to see what happens in the spawn area of TCBL. It involves honey, some chickens and other necessary items.)

But yeah, you’d need some sort of delay and then how do you decide where the camera pans at any given time? I mean in theory it would be fun to see what is going on in a BL when you are in queue but that would just get exploited. I’m seeing a “head cam” on the commander tagged up which is entertaining. Maybe an option with a delay that people could turn on? Complicated to pull that off though.

I play piano in the dark too. Just like that one song.

A GvG mode would certainly go a long way towards making this a reality. I wonder what that would do to the overall population? The answer is likely more of a reason why we have a number of options that people explore crammed into the open borderlands space.

Still plenty of room. Plus tea and biscuits. We also supply very small yet dapper looking hats. Have to look fashionable on the field of battle.

Salt packets are fun. Sometimes I take that as a prime opportunity to empty my bags of Spikes also.

My experience is likely going to be very similar to this. (I only did three matches yesterday considering I was stuck in the queue for an hour for some reason.)

Yet I have a guild mate who won 21 in a row and lost 5 matches. It was insane. I missed the last two seasons and it is extremely daunting to attempt to fire this up now. For me I’m going to get a group together and at least make the attempt. But I can see and understand the frustration.

Excellent post, and very well said! I couldn’t agree more with you on how good the TC/Kaineng pairing has been. Going to T1 was a real culture shock(both good and bad) for many Kaineng players, but the TC players have made it all that more enjoyable with their acceptance and super kind welcoming of their new partners.

My trying the SF/NSP pairing with my other account has just been added gravy. Gives me yet another sort of different wvw mode to experience and relish for times when I want to have a less frantic and crazy time in wvw….lol.

Yep! For me I keep one of my alt accounts on a server without crazy huge population. Course I do still need to buy HoT for that account too.

Howdy! Far more educated people than I will hopefully respond (I left before HoT and only recently came back myself.) Engi was my main up until last year when I switched out to necro. Reaper is certainly entertaining and fun. However, for you I’m going to suggest Rev. Versatile, tanky, interesting take on specs with the legendary aspects. Lots of lore involved. I’ve also heard Warrior is back to being viable again though I haven’t tried it myself.

We also need to consider wrapping up the week too. If the scoring changes to where the time before reset counts substantially more it will be curious to see what the community says about that.

My experience on other servers has been incredibly positive. I played on Sorrow’s Furnace for awhile with one of my alt accounts. You are right that the play is more strategic. They have to be. And really I would expect that same mindset from any server in the game that is constantly outnumbered. We have some great communities in this game who are overshadowed by larger servers. I laugh every time I hear people say that their isn’t server loyalty. While that may or may not be true, people have created communities that they are proud of across the board. Plus the vocal minority that speaks up on forums only represents a certain percentage of players. Though I suppose since many people I recognize on here are guild leaders that is only partially true.

I’ve said this before: The Kaineng folks I have met in game are universally awesome. Hilarious, good with tactics and relentless. For me personally the pairing has been great.

The thing is there will always be players willing to do kitten near anything to manufacture the experience they want in the game. You will have trolls. You will have community leaders, those who want duels and those who want big fights. I think Anet is currently trying to make changes to satisfy the player base. But its a lot more difficult to change a system already in place.

Another aspect has been rivalry in this game. People have absolutely transferred to different servers to fight specific groups (or to get away from people they see as toxic.)

My bet is that the server caps are unlocked when we get a new link in a few months. What will be interesting is to see if servers campaign to fill in their gaps with coverage or if people attempt to determine what the pairing will be like.

Honestly though we know that scoring changes are going to be in the works. Which will take time.

Guilds go to the lower ranked server to play with the higher tier server (b/c they can’t go to the higher tier server). This in and of itself could balance populations from top to bottom “IF” ANet somehow locks down transfers (though I don’t see this happening since transfers = $$$).

I don’t believe this. Do you? Guilds will move again so they can fight different guilds. Tyler’s message on Reddit said 4-6 matches for glicko to stabilize. I don’t think it should be allowed to stabilize, TBH.

Maybe not guilds. I’m quite certain individual players are moving around to the lower tier servers. Why not? From what I’ve heard moving to some of those lower tier servers is 500 gems. People like to win. Coverage does that. Which is odd because sleeping without anything on is much more enticing.

I agree with you about the glicko stabilization. If we get some surprises each week with servers moving up and down throughout the tiers glicko will continue to spike. Plus this is still in beta. I think.

Please make concurrent resets that keep happening every hour on Friday started at 5pm PST.

That way the score will continually go back to zero every hour so that perpetually people can get their fair chance to play when they want.

Alternately, make the match never have a solid ending time. Make it entirely random. Unexpected scoring that happens when we least can predict what is going to happen.

I also play in the dark in order to increase the chances of tripping over my cat. Plus I play with no sound on because that gets in the way of hearing Machine Head.

Super small. Right now I have a few of my friends who have joined for fun and amusement. About six of us currently. We all have other main guilds with some crossover.

Might be fun to have some WvW achievements tied into Guild challenges. That could engage the GvG community more or even duelists. Trigger a certain challenge like “Killing X players within 30 minutes” or something. Stay alive for X minutes while active on a borderland. No money spent on repairs during your time in a borderland. I mean we could get creative, even have a community contest for it and the winner gets some nice swag.

Most people I know don’t play towards achievements. But to me anything that gets people interested in the game mode is positive. Yakslapper is about the only one I ever tried to get and before it just seemed out of reach. The thing is I still want them to be hard and take a long amount of time to perform.

Its a tough thing to balance. Communities have their own methods of doing business on the borderlands, individual TS3 verification structures plus people transferring in to the paired server due to the other server being full. Lots of movement. Which will complicate this even more once we unlink and have new pairings.

The thing is some of this can be mitigated by the community. It doesn’t seem realistic for Anet to do some sort of situation assessment regarding the feel of a community and try to match them up with another server that has a similar mindset. I’ve seen suggestions of that too. (Would be cool I just can’t imagine how one would begin that process.)

I’m bummed considering the folks on TC and Kaineng are (mostly) having a good time. I’ve still heard complaints from people who like to roam and get run over by a havok group consisting of 20 people. Lol. But overall I’m glad Anet is listening and at least trying something.

I was just going to mention that. The fights on EBG last night were awesome. Sometimes our group won [TC] and other times BG would pounce all over us. Back and forth, DB coming in at different times. The end in the Lord’s room that lasted for at least 30 minutes if not longer was epic. It didn’t feel like anyone was a super skilled fight group, the numbers weren’t always even yet tactics were used to narrow the gap. Great time.

Hopefully, us Kainengites were a help and not a hindrance to TC. I saw quite a few guildies and Kaineng people out there last night. Good to see.

Numerous times I have stated that I’m glad to be paired up with Kaineng. Ran with more than a few of your commanders in the last week. Awesome people, very hilarious.

BG and DB have also said more than once they like people who actually fight too. So there is that.

Depends on how you set this up. I don’t drop marks on downed players for loot bags. I drop it to mess with people trying to help them up. Even though you can’t rez people in combat I continually see people trying to do so.

Besides, dropping your wells on callout and tearing through people in Shroud is incredibly effective.

(I don’t think anything here needs to change. I already kill a metric kitten ton of people and I’m not even in a glass spec)

While I am laid back and enjoy having fun I really enjoy winning. Plus I enjoy typing in guild chat too. This is the type of space where we talk about real life, discuss builds, collaborate on what else we need to do to unlock a spec. Come on in for some comraderie and entertainment!

Having played during the season where there was an actual coordinated 2v1 that lasted longer than one evening, this is not happening. The score alone tells the story. It is incredibly difficult to get that many guild groups across multiple servers to be on the same page for any length of time.

I’ve read a lot of posts over the past two weeks and I still believe that most guilds move around in order to find people to fight. The Alliance is incredibly good at getting everyone riled up enough to log in and kick kitten . Its effective considering your other option would be to not play.

Also, someone had better write all of this into a novel. I tell people TC stories and that is the response I get every time. Remember too we have folks on Kaineng involved in this too. (and the commanders I’ve run with from there are hilarious)

That seems absolutely crazy to me that someone would try to avoid being stomped. Considering most nights right now it takes me about 30 minutes to even get into a BL there is no way I’d even remotely think of doing that. I’m assuming OP that this happens a lot otherwise you’d not be making a post?

I’ve had way more client crashes lately than ever before. Its usually leading up to when both groups clash (big fights in SMC or at a garrison defense). Roaming I haven’t had a problem.

About the only other solution would be for Anet to review this on a case by case basis which is an enormous pain. But heck, I’d take a 15 minute penalty given I can hardly get back on in that amount of time after being dumped out of the game.

In response to the thread, some commanders just plain forget because this feature is new. I’ve also found people who adamantly stay away from joining squads. Including one person who swore they got more participation by being on their own? Weirdness.

I prefer to think of our matchup this week as a “target rich environment.” I mean, people certainly can’t complain about being bored any longer.

Personally, I’ll be seeing how many towers I can take. Naked.

Hmm. Skeptical. I mean I knew the Grand Master of Space and Time really well a few years ago. That person frequently insisted on not skipping leg day. While this is always good advice how can we be assured of the same quality control?

This is not instilling me with confidence. I just picked up Thief this week and came to see about some ideas on how to go all up in the hizzy with the class. Lol. Awhile back, I did rename my Thief ‘Male Nurse Robbins’ and spec just to stay at the back of a zerg, doing the rez duties for people. But between that and Venom Share being popular, what a horribly boring place for Thief in WvW. Roaming and PVP are always more rewarding, but being the class that has to push 80 buttons in a correct sequence is never fun.

Bragging rights are acceptable. Still, I’d rather the class be a little more equivalent?

We found out a few things from this event. One, our community is awesome. Check. Two, that a Thief zerg is a terrible, horrible, ineffective idea. Which obviously makes it awesome.

I managed to not die at the SW tower to arrow cart fire, unlike many of my squishy comrades. But I definitely did a YOLO into the zerg as SOS was capping that tower. We were taking bets on who could make it through the group to the other side. Lol.

Good! That big brawl at the end was the best time. I saw one part where one of my guys was just like “I’m YOLOing in! Screw it!” and I had to follow him in lol.

We loved the fights! Our crew was trying so hard not to kill things all during the event. Besides, Karril would have felt like we were honor bound to stab something. I mean, that was a lot of thieves and mesmers. Clearly it was inevitable. The hushed whispers about a group coming over onto TCBL were really funny.

He was an amazing man. I’ve been awed at the stories people have told about him. Karril loved TC in a big way, one of his best qualities was just how much he cared for everyone around him. He’ll be missed.
